Best rpg ever made (no pure rpg, skyrim is pure rpg. You can't make archer character, so it isn't pure rpg). Epic soundtrack, great gameplay, lovely graphic. But level system is bad here.

CD Projekt Red really gives you value for money, i mean 16 peaces of free DLC?? And i mean DLC not #$#@! like in Shadows of Mordor where you get weapon runes as dlc.. The Witcher 3 will keep you busy for well over 150 hours guaranteed!
BTW, on a side note, how the hell does critics (game sites) rate GTA V better than this game? I know its not the same type of game but seriously...ANOTHER GTA? The fifth one where you do all the same stupid stuff except now you have first person mode? Kill and rob people and steal cars for 5 games in a row, nothing new there!!

As you can probably guess by my ID name, I'm a Witcher fanboy. I liked the first one and loved the second (even with the stiff combat system). This 3rd installment clearly shows a continual growth in the franchise; a game that is superior to it's predecessors in every aspect (not evenly but superior nonetheless). So if you liked the previous games you will absolutely love this one.

This 3rd installment clearly shows a continual growth in the franchise; a game that is superior to it's predecessors in every aspect (not evenly but superior nonetheless). So if you liked the previous games you will absolutely love this one.

The game is also amazing from an RPG and action game perspective. Great characters, awesome writing, intriguing storyline, great visuals, and a world that feels very alive; all the story and events develop through a moral so gray that the concepts of "good and bad" seem ridiculous (as they should), and that will have you doubting your own decisions all through the game.

I'm not blinded by my love of the franchise however, the game is not absolutely perfect. Optimization still has plenty of room for improvement (but so had both previous games and later patches fixed it) and the character movement and combat system could still be more fluid.

My actual rating for this game is a 9.5, but due to all the no-life haters I rounded it to a 10.

Buy the game, lets show support for companies like CD Project that actually deliver an experience you will remember for years to come.

To make it short, i thought Skyrim was an excellent RPG, then i played The Witcher III...
This game is just incredible, i have only played it for 45H but i can already tell how awesome it is. The sightliest side quest looks like a real main quest. The map is freaking huge, it's beautiful, the gameplay is great, there is so much things to do... Thanks CD Projekt Red, thanks Bandaï Namco.

    1. Story - While some parts of the story are really worth grinding through the end, other parts will ruthlessly attempt to murder your will to play with their indescribable inanity, as most of the main story seems like an endless "bait and switch" type of deal.

    2. Battle system - Simplified, which is a plus for me, even though the battles themselves are nothing to write home about.
    3. Quests - Absolutely NOTHING you haven't already seen. Fetch quests, hunt quests, Races, treasure hunts, they might sound different but they're not. You go somewhere, get a quest, go somewhere else, use witcher senses, kill something, get treasure, repeat. The battles are extremely boring, and i was playing on Death March difficulty. I would compare the quest variety to that of "Arkham City".
    4. Music and Graphics- These are two of the very few aspects that are so well done, they actually make the rest of the game bearable.
    5. Content - The forging system from Witcher 2 is here as well, meaning You'd have to scour the map for an armorer that is able to craft a decent pair of swords and armor. Though, you'll find, later in the game, that most of the diagrams you've amassed are inherently worthless unless they are of Witcher quality. Basically they get you chasing for an actually USEFUL diagram, only to find out you can't use the item until level 150. Which is fine and well in a free-to-play MMORPG, that uses the gimmick to get you hooked and playing, but this is a single player game. To resort to such methods in a game of this caliber is just stupidly unnecessary. I've never ridden a horse in real life, but even i can tell that the horse's animation and movement is terribly stiff. Lucky you can change Geralt's movement. The monsters are rehashes of their old designs, with an updated texture and animations. There are some new Monsters that spice things up, some mini bosses that are basically bigger versions of regular monsters meaning the battle won't be that much different. The maps are large and filled with trees and wolves. Fast travel helps, but not a lot. There is a fair amount of hidden treasure spots scattered across the map, which can help decrease the boredom, though, again, not by a lot. The Gwent mini game can be heaps of fun, but it's like a fetch-quest-driven-Hearthstone, meaning your game depends a lot on the cards you have found thus far.

In summation, it seems to me that Witcher games are an acquired taste. They're not for everyone, but some might just get lost in the game and enjoy themselves thoroughly. Me on the other hand, I have played/liked this game for days. Didn't love it, mind you, but i thought it was well made and occasionally fun. But after completing almost 90% of the Novigrad map and the quests found in it, i got really tired with the slow pace of the main storyline, the predictable quests, the uninspiring game play, to the point where i lost the urge to keep on playing. Now, even a 10 minute run feels like a colossal waste of time. So, good game, but not for me.

Skyrim is not quite as good because it's far more randomized but still there is enough to to and a chance to find something unique and useful.
In the Witcher 3.. you can get lucky and find a unique schematic for a cool weapon and if you are luckier you are actually carrying around the right nonsense (steel, dark steel, shiny silver.. there is a LOT of different stuff to carry around) to have it made by a smith and you may even be very lucky and it is exactly for your Level.
You will still sell it three Levels later and use some random weapon you found for the new Level because it makes more damage.

Potions are even more horrible. If you want to create a Potions that make hour toenails grow really fast so you can scratch the feet of your enemies for added damage if you are wearing no boots, this is the game for you! (I don't know if this particular potion is actually in the game but it might as well judging from the deceptions could bring myself to read)

The story is not as interesting as all the 9+ people claim, perhaps they never had the fortune of reading a good fantasy novel, there aren't many I know. But it's not bad either. Why shouldn't this Geralt dude look for his long lost foster child that is being hunted by these extremely dangerous other dudes? And why shouldn't he solve all those problems everybody has while doing so?
And mind you, nobody else can do **** in this game. The peasants are completely useless for anything (except killing Geralt two games ago.. yeah right!) and the soldiers always have a reason why they can't do something right now. And so our mighty hero has to kill every monster on the planet and save every cat ... and only gets to rest during the long and mostly boring cutscenes.

Most of the game I didn't mention is not completely bad. The controls are wonky, but you can get used to them. It's just so sad the designers didn't play Skyrim or any Fallout game and thought.. "hey.. there are things here that are really fun.. and stupid in our game". And given they still sell the nvidia givaway versions for like 20 bucks on ebay.. just go buy it. It may help you waste your time until Fallout 4 comes.

But DO NOT buy it for 50+ bucks or whatever the steam loonies sell it for and if you believe you have bought the RPG of the century and rate it 9+ you need to visit a doctor.

As someone who is a fan of the previous games and also a graphics connoisseur with a powerful computer, I will attempt to give my true honest opinion on the good and bad points of this game for the PC platform.

First of all the much contested topic of the graphics. I play in 4K resolution with everything maxed except for Anti-aliasing and NVIDIA Hairworks, which are switched off.

    The good:

    - Character and NPC models along with clothing textures are the best I've ever seen in a PC game hands down, no contest. Even the best Skyrim mods don't come close.

    - Foliage detail/variety/amount and the physics of it is excellent.

    - The visual style generally, the amount of clutter and placement in the world and the way the cities are full of character is top notch.

    The bad:

    - Texture quality seems to vary to the point you actually get quite stark contrasts and it detracts from immersion. It's clear not every texture is to a quality we should expect for a PC game and this is especially apparent at 4K. I'm not saying they're all bad, but they definitely could have a done a better job here.

    - Particle effects are quite limited, with poor smoke effects and fire spells simply looking like sparks shooting out of Geralt's hands.

    - Poor looking "goopy" water with not much going on.

    - Lack of tessellation in some areas resulting in some flat looking textures.

    - No FOV slider! The games camera is irritatingly close to Geralt.

    - Seems poorly optimized in general, given that I hover on around 35-40FPS with an overclocked GTX 980 at 4K and anti-aliasing + hairworks turned off. GTA V has no such problem and is a smooth 60fps throughout, whilst managing to look better for the most part.

Graphics score: 6/10. It is clear that the downgrade is real and the fact CDPR tried to deny it for so long is also a bad point. It's by no means horrible, and most average people will be wondering WTF I'm on about here. But hardcore PC gamers with an eye for detail who have tried the best titles and modded games will be disappointed. There is much room for improvement in future patches and mods here.

    On to the gameplay...

    The good:

    - It's an open world version of the Witcher series, and it maintains the same gripping story as the first two games had. For non-Witcher fans, you could easily draw comparison to Game of Thrones here - and that's hardly a bad thing.

    - The side quests are worthwhile, varied and have proper stories to them. None of this "collect me 100 spider brains for no good reason" malarkey. And there are absolutely loads of them.

    - The world is seriously massive. I mean seriously, think GTAV and Skyrim put together massive. Not to mention there's plenty of stuff to explore. You will find it very, very difficult to get bored playing this game and even the card game is a time sink in itself.

    - The combat is fluid and easy to control in contrast with the previous games.

    The bad:

    - The game clearly wasn't designed for Keyboard & Mouse input. Movement feels clunky and awkward and will definitely take some getting used to, especially on the horse. Resolve by plugging in an Xbox controller.

    - While open-world, people expecting it to be Skyrim 2 will be disappointed. There's no extras such as player housing, interacting with NPC companions to the same level, marriage/adoption, joining a guild etc. This is to fit with the story of Geralt being a lone wolf slayer-for-hire and a nomad though, but as I said don't expect Skyrim - this isn't really a criticism just something to be aware of.

Gameplay score: 9/10. There is literally hundreds of hours of fun to be had here, and at the end of the day that's what games are about isn't it?

    Music/Voice acting/effects:

The Good: - Sound effects help to create a truly absorbing and realistic atmosphere. - The music can't be faulted either. - Every character has a voice-over, there must have been thousands of hours going in to the voice acting in this game alone. The main characters all sound great, obviously Geralt's gravelly voice is probably an acquired taste but I like it. Can I just say Charles Dance for Emperor Emhyr var Emreis was the best voice casting decision ever, for those who miss the presence of Tywin from GoT he's basically playing a very similar character here. The Bad: Nothing. Sound score: 10/10. In conclusion, if you love RPG's and love the Witcher series then get this game RIGHT NOW no questions asked. If you're not a fan of the previous games, or are expecting a Skyrim clone then you may be disappointed but I'd say give it a try anyway. If you're a finicky graphics connoisseur like myself then you may want to hold out purchasing until future patches and mods have made it look more like the old screenshots than it does now - that is if you have the patience. I don't. And now - back to playing!

Witcher 3... An amazing story in a wonderful world, with above average graphics, unfortunately plagued by sub standard controls and random crashes. 8/10 currently, 10/10 if KB/Mouse controls are fixed and crashes are resolved.
Short synopsis, long review. If you want in-depth discussion, this post is for you.
The world is a mixture of open world areas, reminiscent of DA: Inquisition. This actually suits the game well. It feels like a massive version of Witcher 1, alive and breathing, there for the taking. But the game still has ways to ferry you along, presenting the story and driving it's world home. It's best if I don't say much here and let you discover it for yourself! I've played many hours and am finding it fantastic!
But not far into the game, I noticed a cut scene was not playing properly. I crashed to desktop; the nVidia driver stopped responding. Okay. No problem. It's a new game, after all. An hour later, freeze in menu, crash, no notice of problem. In 8+ hours, I've had five crashes, all but one of which have been followed by an nVidia driver error. I've cleaned, then clean installed multiple drivers, but am still having issues. Many people have "fixed" it. But at this point, every single setting in the game has been blamed as the culprit. Please know that the game is amazing, and worth the hassle. I have also played for multiple hours in a row without a crash. But the freezes and crashes are very real, common issues, for some nVidia users.
Okay. Controls. Sigh. First, if you ever use a gamepad on PC, consider doing so for this game. I say that with a tear in my eye. I LOVED the Witcher's original combat style of weaving strikes and timing mouse clicks, all while aiming the camera and using signs at will. Exploring the world felt natural. In Witcher 3, keyboard control feels like controlling a boulder. The camera control feels like you're controlling a leaf in a tornado! I don't know if this is one of those of implementations where the WASD key presses are translated to directional accelerations. But, it sure feels like it. Try it out, you'll see what I mean, but you might want to turn down mouse sensitivity a bit. Another odd thing is the actual binding system. What a key press does is changed whether Geralt is in combat, swimming, riding, etc. But, the binding screen doesn't allow you to bind one key for multiple actions. Bind it in one place, then it's already used, despite the game's own defaults using keys like Shift multiple times itself. I'm using a 360 pad and it's working great so far. The best part is I can still use the mouse for my inventory and menu since the game switches between controls seamlessly. A close second is the 360 degree dodging of attacks. With a gamepad, the gameplay is quick, more responsive, and ultimately feels like the way the game was designed to be played.
The story and gameplay are so good, that the following graphics section is mainly for those for whom the graphics are the main purchasing point. I'm a image quality whore, but twenty minutes in, I was having so much fun I couldn't care less... even about aliasing! The graphics look very good, even great, but not 2013 mind blowing. There are areas where the drive to get the game running on consoles has limited what you'll see on PC. With my nVidia GPU on ultra and hairworks off, I get almost constant 60 fps. But texture quality just doesn't look ultra. Reflections are NOT dynamic, instead using a generic shader. The anti-aliasing is almost useless. Hairworks looks great, but I get large amounts of micro stuttering. I maintain a fairly high frame rate with it on, but my frame times become erratic and spiky. I feel like instead of spending development time on nVidia specific physics package, CDPR could have refined the controls. Or for a more one to one change, they could have focused on lip synching.
My final score [review in progress] is 8/10. So far, the Witcher 3 has been the most interesting, lore infused game I have played in years. The feeling I get playing this game is similar to the first time I played early Might & Magic titles. It's like arriving in the province of Daggerfall, or Oblivion for the first time. Forging a path in a world so familiar, yet utterly foreign. There is so much fun and story to be found in this game, that even stability issues and strange controls can't sink it. Ultimately, I believe CDPR will overcome these issues. In that case, my review will be changed to a 10/10.

It's huge, it's well written, it's beautiful, the combat is intuitive and hard to master, the acting, the design, everything comes together. It's a rare gem, it really is. If you're looking for a large RPG to really emerge yourself in, this is the best you'll see around. I've played computer games since the 80s and this joins a pantheon of a handful truly stellar games like Civilization I, Thief The Dark Project, Europa Universalis, Baldur's Gate that stand out as true masterpieces of the industry.

The only less than brilliant thing in the game is the Skellige area which isn't as astoundingly fantastic as Velen and Novigrad (they are so ridiculously well made with such an attention to detail and life that it's genuinely mind-blowing) but it's still very good.

One of the impressive thing is the story-telling, which has become standard in the witcher games but should never be taken for granted anyway. Arguably, we'll never see the level they reached in Witcher I simply because the game is more mainstream now than back then, but the structuring of the narrative is impressive and the choices made and how they affect the final outcome make sense and feel smooth. The only word of caution is that some choices made regarding the romantic outcomes are made very early and are irreversible so if you care a lot about that aspect, I recommend finding a short post about it that doesn't spoil too much before you play the game too far. The choices regarding Ciri's story are just splendid, she comes alive as a complex and loveable character which is really, really hard to achieve for a character that isn't the main protagonist. The main story in general is fantastic as usual, subtle details for the enthusiast, solid telling for the main stream gamer.

You can easily spend 250 hours on this game and still have places unexplored. You won't be bored either, it won't feel like they're trying to copy/paste scenarios to stretch the runtime, the game has insane value.

Witcher III is a really impressive feat as is the entire franchise series - arguably the best franchise series ever made in gaming. Well done CD Project Red, please never stop being you (I'm looking at you Bethesda).

The Witcher 3 says no to all of this - it's a great game with a fully realized setting, it's a joy to play, the business model behind it treats its customers like human beings, and it delivers a story that finally hits the tone of the books.

Probably the best open-world RPG ever made, but it still falls prey to some of the genre's worst traps.

I've made it pretty clear that it's hardly a flawless game, but that doesn't change the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something pretty bloody special and you should absolutely play it.
