Big fan of the Obsidian Fallout games and the outer worlds is another great game from the studio. In 2019 its hard to find a game that lives up to expectations. I am looking forward to see what they can do in the future!

If you like RPG games, fallout and supporting a great dev team give this game a buy!

Overrated, but really good RPG with multiple choices, fractions, some details from Immersive Sim's you could see like from Bioshock, maybe a little annoying color gamma on planets, but you wil get used to it.

I was waiting for something like this for a long time. Creative and non linear quests, likable characters, outstanding world design, satisfying combat and plenty of rpg elements to tinker with. Can't wait to go back playing it with the new DLCs!

I didn't expect this game to be this good. Little budget, small staff, but oh boy! They delivered! Funny, engaging story. Great gameplay, gunplay and exploing. This game puts to shame AAA game developers! Learn from Obsidian :D

This game had the immersive effect that kept pulling me back in until I finished the game. It has been quite a long time since I've played a game that was able to keep me immersed in its world so fully like this (last time was probably Witcher 3). As most have said this has a very "Fallout" feel to it, but in space.

There are a few things that I think could be improved. The ending feels like it comes too soon, like it finishes a lot of what I wanted to have played, instead its just telling me "and then these other things happened later". If this game has some epic DLCs that come later, perhaps that will help, but as it sits I just wish it went further into the story. Some other small things here and there also were not done to a "10" quality, but other than the story feeling suddenly ended, I could easily forgive any of the other little shortcomings I found here and there.

Just finished the game and I must say this is the type of RPG ive been waiting for after the past 9 years of rushed garbage. A lot of people are going into this game comparing it to Fallout in terms of scale and I think if you do you are making a mistake.

Just finished the game and I must say this is the type of RPG ive been waiting for after the past 9 years of rushed garbage. A lot of people are going into this game comparing it to Fallout in terms of scale and I think if you do you are making a mistake.

The game is definitely more similar to Fallout: New Vegas than anything but it feels more like a hybrid of the original Mass Effect games in terms of length, Fallout: New Vegas in terms of dialog and choices and a bit of Bioshock with the world and combat.

The game might be a little short for some as it took around 25 hours for me to finish the game and probably could have been finished sub 15 if I simply ran through the main story. The side quests in the game however make up for this I feel as they are well written quests with fun objectives and not just tacked on. I personally would see the side quests as part of the main story and should not be avoided.

On my second play-through now and im starting to see the real talent the devs put into the story as there really are different ways to tackle a problem and they haven't made it an obvious good/evil choice like other RPGs. Choices are more grey and what choice you pick might be more related to your political beliefs rather than Option A: Feed the poor or Option B: Burn the orphanage down.

If you are a true RPG lover then you wont really have much to complain about as you get pretty much everything you want, if your in it for a looter shooter you will be dissapointed and if your expecting some kind of massive space opera with dozens of planets and over 1000 NPCs you may want to give this game a pass. What you get here is a well made RPG with heavy character options and replay value.

Only 5 hours in, but already its fantastic and the story is miles beyond anything else I have seen lately. Taking what they learned with all their other games, and New Vegas, and making Bethesda look like goofs by doing more with this style of game than they have in years. Fantastic.

Let us start by saying that The Outer Worlds is a very good game. It is also a very high quality game. So, why 8 out of 10 instead of 10 out of 10? A couple of things really hold back for me.

    1. I feel it is overpriced for what you get. $60 is a lot of money for such a small and short game. Even with doing all the side missions and visiting all the locales, it is small and short.

For me, this is more a $40 game and I feel that it is the monopoly held on the game by Epic that allows it to succeed at $60. Do try to get it on sale if you can and it will lessen the pain.

    2. For all the content and quality of the game, it feels a little 'light' to me. I just expected to see more depth and breadth in almost every aspect of the game. I was repeatedly having the feeling of "is that it?". What is there is great, but not enough.

So, The Outer Worlds is certainly worth buying, especially if you can get it on sale. The Outer Worlds is certainly worth playing, as long as expectations are tempered with the understanding that this is not going to be an Open-World, 100hr RPG.

The Outer Worlds gives a solid shooter gameplay that you wouldn't get bored of, the story hooks you well and the gameplay mechanics fits the game well, I have only seen 2 bugs after three playthroughs (one was game-breaking but still you could approach the level in another way and the other was just a ragdoll that nocliped), however, i think the developers weren't familiar with the engine or/ due to the limitations that the engine has they couldn't bring that sandboxy feeling that existed on Fallout: New Vegas and that was disappointing. another issue I can note is that the game is a mediocre ARPG and it looks more like a shooter game with RPG elements rather than being Action Roleplay. the damage of the weapons is unbalanced and after some progression, the armor becomes a non-important thing (like when u reach to daedric armor in Skyrim) and enemies die fast. if u still play on supernova the chance of survival gets pretty low but you still don't feel the grinding (grinding is an important aspect in RPG and ARPG games, no matter how strong your weapon be dealing headshots or body damage shouldn't kill the enemies so fast). the graphics are nice but im just sick of Unreal Engine's graphics, I can see that it gets repetitive in various videogames (still we can count this as UE flaw)

Companions were great, they had great backstories, Game had a good kind of philosophical/scientific ideology and Politics and I think it's needed for people to interact with such stuff, game didn't have throwables and that was a bummer, no animal companion but I'm not going to notice that in my review. the game was really short, 20 hours for finishing all the quests and extra 10 hours for fully searching all the planets and reading the logs. Game Does Not look like a fallout game (due to graphics, the number of interactions and "freeness" you have) its just, not
I don't like to defend Bethesda's engine (its pretty old, outdated and buggy) but its more sandbox than any other engine I have ever seen. if Obsidian had enough money I think making the game on Unity would have been a much wiser choice

It's a wonderful RPG in an era where RPGs are becoming increasingly rare. I loved every moment I spent exploring, conversing, hacking, and looting in this game. It's very immersive and the characters (with the exception of some of your companions) are very well written. Obsidian can refine it through post-launch content if they're willing.

It's not perfect by any means but it is truly a game that every RPG fan should play at least once. Especially if you're a fan of Fallout New Vegas and Mass Effect. In fact, Mass Effect Andromeda, a bloated AAA RPG, wishes it could have done what this game did with an AA budget.

I cannot wait to see what Obsidian does with the sequel.

If you guys like having all your games polluted with that money grubbing nonsense, go ahead and give this game a bad score. But I think you should stop being so entitled and reward Obsidian for building a PURE GAME that is just a game you buy. The business model of this game is exactly what it should be: purchase the game for 60 dollars and play it to your heart's content, with the company never bothering you to spend another dime. I will ALWAYS support developers with this business model and completely boycott any developer that pedals microtransactions, loot boxes or Day 1 DLC. I would give this same review of 10/10 if this game were bad, but it's not. The game is fantastic. I suppose it's a matter of taste, but I'm really, genuinely enjoying it. Also, I love that you get to kill Corporate Commanders in the game. That's Angry Joe's character for the greedy corporations, and you get to KILL THEM. Wonderful! This is a dream come true for anyone who has a clue about the games industry. You all need to vote this up, buy this game, and stop supporting nonsense that's out to exploit you like FIFA, NBA, Battlefront and Battlefront 2, etc. Otherwise you deserve what's comnig to you: a complete monopoly of games that have microtransactions that are necessary to pay to win or pay for convenience, games that release broken on launch day, and no alternatives. The Outer Worlds feels like a crossover between Fallout: New Vegas and Bioshock, with a graphic style that sometimes feels like Fallout 4 (but with more colour).

The attention to detail in the dialogue is breathtaking. For example, if you wear outfits you have taken from your kills, people will tell you that it is in poor taste to be walking around looking like the bad guys.

I haven't hit any major technical issues so far. I am playing on a cloud gaming service called "Shadow" with an NVIDIA GTX 1080 on max settings. I get the occasional glitch in frame rate, but I get this in all AAA games on Shadow, so I put this down to Shadow and not The Outer Worlds.

The one glitch that drives me mad is when I press "X" on the controller to talk to people, the gun is drawn. Every single time. Luckily, I am not attacked when this occurs: it is just an annoying glitch.

Overall, I am extremely impressed with The Outer Worlds.

The problem with this isn't that it is a bad game (far from it), but the fact that it failed to reach its true potential… or maybe the expectations were simply too high, because there's nothing here that anyone can point to and say that it is terrible. Sadly, there's almost nothing that's great either, apart from the role-playing element and the quality of writing. The gunplay? Ok. The exploration? Decent. The plot? Fine. The dominant feeling here is of a game that is good enough so that you won't hate it, but also not as good for it to be the flawless classic that it could definitely be - but again, that's probably those darn high expectations speaking, because flaws or no flaws, The Outer Worlds shouldn't be missing from any RPG collection.

Usually, a planet has just one or two settlements and a bit of wildlands to explore. But that’s for the best – instead of exploring miles of filler content, Outer Worlds keeps you moving from planet to planet, from one tense situation to another. [Issue#241, p.34]
