Great game! Feels like Fallout with Bioshock art style. Very colorful game. The story is tongue and cheek humor with some goofiness. Best part is the freedom of player choice and how the story reacts to your decisions.

I'm just at the beginning and it got me hooked.
In an industry filled with garbage videogames i can't possibly mark any negatives for the Outer Worlds, everything just works and it's immensely entertaining.

Thank you Obsidian for this masterpiece, what a wonderfull job you did there.

It is really refreshing in today's age to get a full game with no micro transactions or politics. As for the game itself, the graphics are beaufitul, I love the art style and setting. The gameplay feels very intuitive and the dialog system is snappy. The characters in this game seem very likable too, which helps alot.

I was waiting for a game I could lose myself in like I used too, this is that game for me.

The humor from original Fallout is back. An extremely good job by Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, the original Fallout crew. Graphics are meh but who really cares. I have been waiting for such a humorous game for a long time and thank God Obsidian delivered it.

These people saying "choices don't matter" must be high. One hour into the game I shot a quest NPC and was KOS at a main quest hub permanently. If you decide to be a sarcastic or dismissive **** to everyone you meet, watch companions leave you and the path to completing objectives become more complicated. You can personalize your character interactions however you want. Honestly, what kind of choices do you expect to matter more than that?

I guarantee I can pin down how these "choices don't matter" clowns are playing the game. They're linearly going down the dialogue trees, exhausting all options, without realizing in the process they're eliminating a lot of them--because once you commit to a dialogue tree that is at least semi-diplomatic, a lot of the negative options disappear (which are often towards the bottom). I've reloaded dozens of saves because I couldn't get back to a different outcome that I saw the first time I interacted with an NPC. These are the players that pride themselves on being completionists, because any white unclicked text just triggers their OCD. That is not how you play these types of games.

As for my personal review of the game. I'm not a fan of the Fallout games at all. I could never manage to get very far in them as I'm not a big fan of the brown/olive green washed out palette. The Outer Worlds on the other hand sucked me in right away. While the facial animations aren't spectacular, the writing and character design is. It takes very few lines of dialogue for me to decide if I really like or hate a character, if I think they're full of **** or if I want to assist in their plight. That takes solid writing to pull off, especially with side quest NPCs. Side quests at this point in my life are often meandering distractions that have little payoff and make the game take longer unnecessarily. I probably won't do all of the side quests in this game, but the few that I have done I actually enjoyed and felt like I was accomplishing something meaningful.

I love the art direction and think every place I've visited so far is engaging and spectacular. The graphics not being God of War tier does not detract from the art direction.

The combat does need work. This is one valid complaint that most people can agree on, and my guess is Obsidian thought this was more about the story and relationships with characters than a gunplay theme park. You should still try to make the combat as fun as possible. I hope they can work on this in updates.

This game carries the mark of Obsidian and simplifying, I can only say that the game follows a simple premise and can even surpass it, which is to be an RPG worthy of being successor to others who made history.

It certainly isn't perfect, but I do firmly believe the price of admission is worth it and companies that are trying to do things the right way deserve to be rewarded. It's sad that its come to this, with companies like EA, Take Two, and Ubisoft always scheming to milk every penny they can from the whales, but hopefully with good sales figures Obsidian and Microsoft will be willing to revisit The Outer Worlds with a big budget sequel.

It is an attempt to sell Fallout 3 in new decorations. But the thing is that this game looks far less creative and interactive than New Vegas which came out in 2010. So Outer Worlds looks dated even for 2010.

The Outer Worlds is a phenomenal RPG with a great story about the late stage of a capitalist dystopia in outer space, all the characters are interesting and the semi-open worlds are compelling. Obsidian managed to combine the Fallout and Mass Effect formula to make something beautiful and better with very few flaws.

I only have two issues with the game so far, lack of a robust gun-play and difficulty balance; Normal is relatively easy while Hard is very close to the hardest difficulty, so I had to start on Normal and later on switch to Hard. I have been waiting for years to play a good RPG with a good story, both Bioware and Bethesda's recent installments (Fallout 4 and Mass Effect Andromeda) were major disappointments for me but I can honestly say that Obsidian surely delivered with the Outer Worlds, I hope they will add big expansions DLC for the game, for a fair price and of great quality ofcourse.

Fallout 4 Released, It was a good game, but it wasnt the good game I was expecting or wanted. I wanted to see that meaty RPG I grew up loving. Then mass effect andromeda released. I could look past the weird facial animations but not all the other, far more impactful issues. The writing that just didnt fit the game. Voice acting that felt like the actors were picked up from the front of a gamestop. With voices not matching alien races with very specific types of voices. Dialogue that was void of all meaning and impact. Then in the most intense and life endangering situations, lines of dialogue that sounded like the NPCs and player character were out for a daily stroll around the town lake. It was a huge let down. Hopes were high when Bethesda put on a live stream with the iconic Fallout Please Wait screen. I and hundreds of thousands other people waited. And waited. What happened 24hours later shot goosebumps all over my body. A power armor helmet faded into view. The camera panned out of a sprawling forest, it looked beautiful. But something felt off with Take Me Home, Country Roads playing in the background and nothing looking like it was touched by the war. This was it, we all thought in twitch chat as we sat in disbelief. They heard us on their shortcomings in fallout 4 and only a few years later they've come to make it up to us. Oh boy, we were all naive.

What ensued was leak after leak from Jason Schrier of kotaku. A pompus man that just wanted a part in the click bait hype train? Nope. He genuinely wanted us to know that we were all so very wrong. Leak after leak pointed out that the game was multiplayer, with base building. We all rationalized it, well the settlement system expanded to be able to be placed anywhere and multiplayer. Ok no big deal a coop fallout with a friend or 2 would be pretty cool, barring no sacrifices were made to the core of what makes a Fallout game. More leaks pointing to be a possible MMO or Rust like game. We all sat in disbelief, "Jason Schriers a **** idiot" I said to others. Heh yea sure. Then at E3 Todd God Howard confirmed our worst nightmares, Jason was 100% right. The one studio with the money to make the RPGs we had grown to love has went to the Darkside with every other studio. That was it.

In the background of all this I kept my eye on the guys that truly inspired my love into RPG games, Obsidian. During this time, Tyranny, POE 1 & 2, South park-SOT, they were releasing RPGs with meaning. Moral dilemmas, character development that meant something. They had it all, except the money. Developing deep, rich RPGs but in an Isometric POV and usually little VO.
Watching the game awards in 2018 a trailer came on. I look to the screen after hearing a curious sounding man knocking on glass as I the character looked at him through that glass. I watched, sci fi style music played as I climbed out of that same chamber on what looked to be an alien planet as that same scientist narrated. I heard "the corporations had taken over and started selling all their products way overpriced. I was intrigued. I thought the art style looks really cool, kind of Bioshock style but with a futuristic space twist to it all. My heart started racing a little. Is this another Fallout? Is this a new bioshock? What is this, starfield? I saw this in chat "FingerFlickenBoy- Space, space never changes" My heart pounding, a wave of goosebumps over my body I grab my fiances foot as she lie behind me on her phone, and I tell her to look look look!!! Then ellie is on the screen " You have to choose!" she says "You have to choose now!". It shows what we presume to be the man in the armor shot dead and Ellie says "You know you didnt have to shoot either one right? But its fine I guess you just keep being you". I audibly shouted at this point Holy **** Is this what our generation has been begging for? Then " the creators of fallout" pops up, music starts playing, music almost destined to be in this trailer. Heart racing waves and waves of goosebumps rolling over myself, I turn to look at my fiance, her jaw laid open. I shoot a huge smile at her and look back at the screen. "And the developers of Fallout new vegas". This was it, the very thing weve all asked for, for years. Well not exactly, see weve been begging bethesda to concede and just give obsidian a contract for another Fallout but we all know that will never happen and this outcome. This outcome is far better.

Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky had another brain child called Outer Worlds and oh was it gorgeous. The writing in this game is pristine. The choices and dialogue is what you want in an RPG. The game is amazing. So ill just say a negative. The graphics settings. The inability to remove armor after equipping.

The problem with this isn't that it is a bad game (far from it), but the fact that it failed to reach its true potential… or maybe the expectations were simply too high, because there's nothing here that anyone can point to and say that it is terrible. Sadly, there's almost nothing that's great either, apart from the role-playing element and the quality of writing. The gunplay? Ok. The exploration? Decent. The plot? Fine. The dominant feeling here is of a game that is good enough so that you won't hate it, but also not as good for it to be the flawless classic that it could definitely be - but again, that's probably those darn high expectations speaking, because flaws or no flaws, The Outer Worlds shouldn't be missing from any RPG collection.

Usually, a planet has just one or two settlements and a bit of wildlands to explore. But that’s for the best – instead of exploring miles of filler content, Outer Worlds keeps you moving from planet to planet, from one tense situation to another. [Issue#241, p.34]
