This game is one big disappointment, as always with this studio. It's amazing that people just now opened their eyes and saw not a game for more than 200 million dollars, but a piece of unfinished code with deceived expectations, Skyrim-level activities, loadings every 2 minutes, crooked animations, disgustingly written quests, cheesy main quest, empty planets, and other bad stuff

Take a cheese grater to fallout New Vegas and it's character system, sprinkle that onto Skyrim, shave off base building from fallout 4. And glue the entirety of no Man's sky to it. And

I don't like this all review-bombing from straight up haters.

This game is a Bethesda love letter to the fans and if you like Bethesda games then you'll LOVE Starfield. Game of the decade in my opinion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

They aren’t even trying to make any quality of life improvements for the previous systems they are reusing here.
Why can’t I have a map of a city? I’ve got a map of the galaxy but not a map of a city? Did they stop doing google maps in the future and only make Star maps?
Combat isn’t great but the audio is! Audio sounds incredible! I wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone who isn’t already a Bethesda fanboy. It’s a shame that the game that was meant to be a system seller, game of the generation is still stuck in the Bethesda loop.

Slightly disappointed I don't get 60 fps in cities with a 3080. But I use a VRR TV and don't notice since it is very stable.
Most important, THIS IS A MASSIVE RPG SET IN SPACE. NOT A SPACE SIMULATOR LIKE STAR CITIZEN.

Are you kidding me? You can't take off or land on a planet. Loading Screens everywhere.
Even the advertasing exploration is not true, you can't explore fully a planet, an invisible wall and a message appears after you walk some Km.
The planets being proceedal generated is acceptable (at some point) but the copy and past of outposts and caves and bs on a planet is abismal. And I'm not talking about 5 occasions, is dozens apon dozens... Don't forget there are thousand of planets...

It's awful how little immersion there is. developed for more than ten years, but where? What did you do with the money and time?
Why is this game so empty? We know that most of space is empty, therefore I won't discuss about the planets, which are assumed to be empty. The cities, though? The cities are deserted, dead, and devoid of life. No one is concerned if you shoot. Police won't intervene. This is advertising has a RPG. An RPG should, at the very least, have strong exploration, be immersive and soulful.
There are nothing in this game that will pull you to this world. The first missions I did after I was "released" in space were the most ridiculous missions, you know that ones that are there to fill the game with bs? Yeah... My thought was "this is going to be the entire of the game will it not?". Ridiculous.
I will not talk about bugs of course...

Man, this is bad. This people need to stop with this bs, for real.

(The 5 out of 10 is because the game is a good shooter, the graphics are ok, city design and "zones" are good and ship costumization is good).

Great game with wonderful story and immersive game world and quests. Do not compare it to Star Citizen or No Man Sky because this is not flight simulator. I tried Star Citizen and honestly it has nothing on Stafield except more involved atmospheric flight. Who cares about that tho? If I want to enjoy flying experience I just boot up MSFS.

It would seem no one at Bethesda has the balls to speak up about bugs or game direction for fear of Todd Howard, so they sit by idle and watch the disaster unfold. There's no chance people working there didn't know this game was garbage before it released.

Starfield: Disappointment in the Open Cosmos

Starfield, despite appearing to be a grand game set in an open-world space, conceals within it the corridors of monotony that often detract from the enjoyment.

One of the primary issues with Starfield is its repetitiveness. The cosmic world you're meant to explore feels perpetually the same. Every mine, every outpost, and indeed, the entire universe seems to be copied and pasted repeatedly. Enemies remain constant, turning each encounter into what feels like a mandatory task rather than an engaging experience.

As for the story, there's no meaningful connection with factions or character development. Everything revolves around a formulaic scenario where you have to go somewhere, fetch something, kill someone, or shoot something, and you won't encounter anything genuinely new. The RPG element in this game is disappointingly weak, especially when considering the quality achieved in Bethesda's previous titles like Fallout: New Vegas.

The actual spaceflight, which was supposed to be a major highlight of the game, feels strangely unsatisfying. It's more like a sped-up transit between planets, making it feel more like "fast travel" than actual space exploration. This is a massive missed opportunity for exploring the cosmos and the experiences that could have been associated with traveling between different worlds.

While you may find various plants and weather on the surface of planets, that's about the only variation the game offers. Interiors are virtually identical. Enemy encounters are monotonous, quickly becoming repetitive and dull.

Overall, Starfield is a significant letdown. You feel like you've entered an open cosmos, but in reality, you're trapped in the corridors of monotony and subpar design. If you have a choice, you might want to consider other RPG (BG3) because, unfortunately, Starfield doesn't deliver the expected experience, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
