One of the best games I have played in a long time started the main quest line, then deviated for about 15 hours doing some side quests. Honestly, if you have a chance to play it do yourself a favor and play it.

The marketing for this was like they were actually going into space, a technical marvel. Bethesda's writing and attention to detail are weaker than I remember... I just see amazing scenarios with lacking options, choices, and consequences in the design and fine detail. On rails.

They could have done a way better job, But Todd didn't care he wants another cash cow. AI that is more A than I, 30 fps shutter show for modern gaming, large amount loading screens, shallow main story, Bland and laggy title screen, invisible walls. I'm giving it a 2 because it runs better than launch at fallout 76. Todd you suck

    Don't you guys have RTX4090?
If one game doesn't meet the standard of 3A games in 2023, it will be a nonsense to give a high score just because it's made by bethesda, especially when the company toss every problem it has to modders to fix it for free.
First it's a game, then it is a bethesda game.

The most fun game I’ve played this decade. The planetary exploration, quests, and side content are fantastic. If you’re a fan of space games I would definitely recommend Starfield!

If you like Betestha games Starfield it is one of the best games they have created, visually beautiful, with very fun game mechanics, full of very interesting activities to do, you want a game in which you can spend hours and hours Starfield it is your game. The only bad thing is that you can't use the ship to fly on the planets and land Manuel at any point on them.

Doing my part to fight off the typical Bethesda Bashers.

It’s an amazing game, it requires a bit of maturity to appreciate it as it’s not over the top like a lot of games now a days.

If you go in looking for faults you will find them, but if you can move past those there is a galaxy of incredible content

Starfield doesn't have any kind of space exploration, it's all loading screens. You can't fly, land or take off from planets manually, they are simply loading screens. The galaxy you are placed in is empty, there is no movement, the planets are mostly empty. Look for what happens to planet earth, it's embarrassing..., it's the same landscape wherever you land.

At times, you feel like you're going from one place to another in a linear fashion and the only thing separating you from each place is a loading screen. There is no immersion.

Performance is lousy on PC no matter how much Todd Howard says otherwise (it can be improved with mods). The AI of the enemy NPCs is non-existent, at times they act like punching bags. The rest of the NPCs sometimes appear and disappear in front of you without any explanation, their gestures are robotic, they don't react to the player's actions beyond you shooting them. The graphics would be spectacular in 2012, not 2023. In short, it is not what was promised by Bethesda, and this game is not worth the 80€ they are asking for it. In the future, when they fix the bugs and performance, and if there is some interesting mod, the game will be worth it to know the main story, but not for 80€.

I can even usually ignore the Bethesda "jank" that often accompanies the launch of their games - but something about Starfield's core mechanics seem inherently flawed as well, and I'm not sure I could even explain why. Whether it was the underdeveloped enemy A.I., the poorly designed base building (a giant material storage container can only hold 150 lbs of items, while the safebox in my bedroom can hold infinite), the emotionless (and ugly) character models, the lackluster main story quests, or just the general lack of adventure - Starfield ultimately proves to be an underwhelming RPG that fails to deliver on most of the promises Todd Howard and the marketing team pushed.

That is not to say that there's nothing good here, the weapon design and shooting mechanics are a vast improvement over their past games, the ship-building is very intuitive, and the scenic landscapes of distant planets and galaxies can be absolutely gorgeous! I just wish I had more of a reason to explore them

The game isn't bad, just dated. If they had released Starfield 10 years ago, I would say this game was groundbreaking. Nowadays compared to games of the same theme, it is not innovative.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I want to start off this review by saying Starfield is a good game and it should be worth checking out on game-pass but it’s outdated game engine and it’s over ambitious world leaves me feeling like I have traveled a vast ocean that was as deep as a puddle. Pros:I liked the base building and the ship customization and the fact that you can shoot down an enemy ship in space and take over their ship gta style , now that was an awesome experience. I love how each planet or moon add their own gravity strength levels. I liked the space combat even though it can be clunking at times. The gun place is a huge improvement from fallout but it’s still not the best gun play experience and can be greatly improved. Cons: the games story is very lack luster and boring. Most of the time you are sent on a boring fetch quest of retrieving these artifacts. Go to this planet and get the artifact. Over and over again no boss battles no interning things. The games story only gets good during the last mission when you are teleporting to other universes but other than that you will be doing the same thing. Another con for this game is you have to look hard to find a good quest through all the boring fetch quest no creativity!! The game feels very old and clunky and character models look terrible. The graphics look average. There’s no real exploration and the game is a loading screen simulator. Even though this was the least buggy Bethesda game I still ran into game breaking bugs that didn’t let me progress some of the quests. What I think they should have done:
I believe they should get rid of the creation engine.
I believe they should have lowered the scope of their world. Instead of 1000 planets they should have have like 3 solar systems max and flesh out each of those worlds and made it to where you can land and leave without loading screens. I want to fly around the planet and shoot people from my space ship and bandit camps. The worlds feel empty and dead each planet has the same abandon outpost and the same reskin 7 creatures that do the same thing . The world just doesn’t seem alive even in the main settlements. The city needs life like being able to interact with the environment. Like imagine if you were able to play darts in neons bars or play some arcade machines or gamble or play pool or go to a strip club and have a lap dance or imagine playing a game of basket ball in space with some random npc or have a drone or mini car race or better yet ship races in a huge arena for a crowd of npc to watch. Things like that can really make you feel like you’re part of the world and having npc partake in those things can really make things alive. Why do people compare this game to Skyrim? The only thing this game shares with Skyrim is its engine. Exploration in Starfield is terrible and should not be compared to Skyrim. Skyrim you can go in any direction and find something awesome and unique during your exploration. For example I was just wandering around Skyrim and I stubbed across a talking dog that lead me to some crazy demon quest with some impactful choices and rewarding me with a cool ass weapon. All that from just wandering or seeing something in the distance. Quest are unique and interesting and you had impactful choices. You can’t do that in Starfield sadly. The game needs diversity. I’m tired of fighting the same enemy. I’m tired of fighting a reskin spacer or pirate.THEY ARE THE SAME. I think it was mistake to not introduce other alien race factions. Like imagine real intelligent alien life forms or like maybe add like space zombies or mutants or something unique other than the generic space pirate. Imagine and alone race with their cultures in the game or you can choose an alien race. That would have been cool. There much I think they should add but I’m getting tired of typing so I will leave that there.

Once again, huge disappointment from the "professional critique".
88 on this game is probably the biggest lie of the decade.
I haven't played such a cold, empty and souless game in a while. Leaving aside the bugs (which as a bethesda game we all know their technical level is sub 0, and this game is no exception) everything feels so cheap and rushed. -General gameplay goes from empty

I haven't played such a cold, empty and souless game in a while. Leaving aside the bugs (which as a bethesda game we all know their technical level is sub 0, and this game is no exception) everything feels so cheap and rushed.

-General gameplay goes from empty interactions, amateur and dull voice acting, terrible NPC's and facial features/expressions that reminds me of oblivion.

-Completely outdate engine. New gen you said? The game can barely run on high end hardware, and its filled with artifacts, noise and pollution.

-Maps are empty, repetitive and pale... and obviously no vehicle so you wouldn't realize how empty they are as quick.

-Whoever the f made the gun play never played a shooter in their life.

    -Loading screens EVERYWHERE.

-The AI is probably the worst AI i've ever seen, no exageration.

200+m budget game, i wanna know exactly where that money went because on hiring talented people and investing in resources and technology for sure not. Just to think this is 8 points away from BG3 is ATROCIOUS and a big disrespect to the gaming market, developers and players.

I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
