    It's clear Bethesda do not evolve or improve at all, my hype for the next Elder Scrolls died with Starfield. Starfield also made it clear that Bethesda needs to take the creation engine 2 behind the barn and shoot it. Too many limitations and you will find the same bugs from previous titles in Starfield.

    Quick recap:
    Performance = Bad
    AI = Bad
    MainStory = Bad (booooring)
    Sidequests = 50/50 Ok/Bad
    Combat = Ok (but underwhelming)
    Sound = Ok (but underhwelming)
    Music = Good
    Immersion = Bad

    There is some ok to good parts in the game but overall very mediocre i would rate this 6/10. I wish modders wouldn't help Bethesda so they actually had to care about there own products in the future. Bethesda didn't even add FOV-slider or DLSS.

    Alright. I made a Metacritic account just to review this game. I want to start off by saying that I am playing on PC. I am using a 3060ti and a Ryzen 5 5600. Thats a fairly moderate combination, handles almost anything at high settings, 1080p or 1440p 60fps+. With that out of the way, this game is horribly optimized for PC. With that out of the way, this game is horribly optimized for PC. The performance is less than stellar, to say the least. There's some really strange choices made, like the fact that the game doesn't support exclusive full-screen or DLSS natively. Also, this game has crashed on me countless times. Visually the settings are pretty solid but there's not really that "woah..." moment you get like when you leave the prison in Oblivion. Texture work is good. Lighting and shadows are just fine. Overall the game feels far too graphically basic to be as demanding as it is. The character creation is fine. You can't make any super dumb, silly, jenky, oblong, green-skinned, freaks like you can in most other Bethesda games. That's a disservice to the experience in my opinion. Making those crazy created characters are part of the Bethesda charm and there really isn't much of that charm in Starfield.

    Starfield is simply not fun. I don't find the world or story interesting. NPCs feel lifeless and add nothing of substance to the game. In Skyrim and Oblivion, most NPCs are named individuals that go to work and have conversations with each other and often drop little hints of stuff you can go do in the game. In Starfield, there's countless times where I'd press E to speak to an NPC and they'd say "I'm sorry I'm busy". They're all nameless and so obviously lifeless NPCs and it's so uninteresting. When playing this game, I wish I was playing other games. I think about how I could be playing Oblivion or Skyrim or Fallout New Vegas, games with worlds that feel *real* and detailed. I think about how I'm also playing through one of the best RPGs I've ever played, Baldur's Gate 3. I often want to close my game and play that instead. Traversing this game is uninteresting.
    The idea that nearly all traversal is done through menus is absolutely unbelievable. They touted these giant worlds and this sprawling universe, but they all feel so disconnected? I so badly wanted to fly from one planet to another and actually land directly on that planets surface without having to go into a menu to do so. This is not an open world game. It has cities and strongholds that sit in their own little area and you have to use a menu to go to them, you can't walk from a city to an outpost. When you land in an area, that isn't a huge city, there's a small circle in which you can explore, after that it locks you into that small area. Want to explore more of the planet you're on? Go into a menu and land somewhere else on the planet. Flying in space is actually kind of fun, it's unfortunate that you can't really do much with it, it doesn't get you anywhere.

    Speaking of flying in space, the ship combat is kind of enjoyable, I don't completely hate it or anything. It's just that it gets boring and repetitive after the first few times you do it, it makes you not really want to do it anymore. Gun combat isn't awful either! I enjoy the gun combat! It feels good, it feels better than any Bethesda-developed game with guns. Comparing the combat in this game to Fallout 76, for example, the combat here is definitely more enjoyable. It's a shame that the early game enemies aren't cool by any means. It's all weird alien bug creatures and space-pirates.

    The one time in this game where I actually got excited and happy is when I was walking in New Atlantis and the adoring fan appeared! It was actually nice to see the little guy again, as annoying as he can be. The voice acting in this game is really good, the performances are great. The actors did a great job!

    Final thoughts:
    Starfield is bland and uninteresting and doesn't live up to the hype. I have un-installed it and will not be finishing it any time soon. I am doubtful that they will release any super meaningful updates, but if they do, maybe I'll check it out. If Cyberpunk got "fixed" maybe this game can too. If you want a good Bethesda game, play one of the classics we all know and love again. If you want a new sprawling RPG that is fun and let's you explore and do almost anything you want, play Baldur's Gate 3. If you want a good space game play No Man's Sky. I would be severely upset and would be filing for a refund if I paid the full-price of $69.99 USD for this release. Thankfully I only paid 16 dolars due to its Gamepass day-one integration. Would not recommend.

Starfield managed to delight and to surprise, even the main story is Bethesda's best one yet. Also, the vistas are hauntingly beautiful. I love Fallout 4 and Skyrim, but this is not a good game.

    This would have been a decent game in 2010 with regards to animation, graphics, story length, the little to no interface+display customization, bugs and so on. This is like Outer Worlds x Skyrim x ME: Andromeda, only worse in all categories. Anyone with a sane mind will not say this is better in any single way than Andromeda

This is like Outer Worlds x Skyrim x ME: Andromeda, only worse in all categories. Anyone with a sane mind will not say this is better in any single way than Andromeda which is now 6 years old. Those games appear to be 10 years apart, they almost are, just the wrong way around. Outer Worlds too is like 4-5 years old now, not a single thing in this game beats that, and that game had it fair share of problems.

    Imagine publishing a game they have used this much time on, resources, past achievements, money, huge studio and you forget to add brightness and gamma sliders??
    You forget to add a field of view slider, something games in 2008 had, it would literally take them 5 minutes to implement it and enhance the experience for all players by a lot and those who suffer from motion sickness will actually be able to play.
    You forget that almost all people want to play this in fullscreen with optional DLSS, free to choose HDAO/TXAA/SMAA and hopefully have a game this bad looking above 60 fps on a 4070tix13600k, but thats just too much to ask so we'll keep it windowed borderless running 50 fps and a medium/high/ultra slider instead different methods of anti-aliasing.
    Their most notorious problem is their garbage engines and carry weight / running stamina which makes a game made for hoarding absolute torture. They probably had this problem with FO3 in 2008 and every other game since, how can they not learn?

    Keep in mind that farming ores on planets is useless, you will never use the materials, they will weigh too much to carry, keep in mind that exploring planets is useless, there are close to zero if not zero npcs there and you have to run massive lengths most of the time over encumbered, not able to sprint for more than 3 seconds of the time and maybe you're lucky enough to have a talent in jetpacks with so bad physics it's actually better to leave it behind because of the weight, only to find an empty cave with materials you cant carry or an abandoned base full of loot weighing too much to carry. The combat system is as stiff and broken as Skyrim, FO4, there is nothing different at all. The weapons feel awful, all of the 20+ different I have tried. Oh and the main city looks disgusting.

    I have looked forward to this game for probably 3 years and what I got is an old looking, unpolished, perhaps too vast, empty, soulless, stiff, disappointing intro, tons of too long waiting animations, the wierdest mix of characters I have ever seen, 300 years ahead in time a colony that escaped earth is still talking with indian, african and east asian accents when speaking english which would obviously be the main language for hundreds of years (Hogwarts Legacy all over again), full of bugs, incredibly rough/uneven gameplay, garbage animation and graphics for an incredibly steep price and wait time. This should have been labeled as an Alpha project and cost 20-30 usd at most. It reminds me a lot of Fallout 76 only on a much larger scale and with npcs, sometimes.

    This game is Fallout 4, an 8 year old game only set in space. The flora, fauna and rock/shaders on planets are actually at times worse than FO4, at least there are modders that upscale the textures and fix the mountains of problems there, which we can only hope for in the future here.

    Hm, I wonder what I actually like about it. The dialogue scene close ups with people can be good, the idea of the game in space is good, but that's just in theory. The character customization was decent, some of the armor can look decent, some textures indoors can look good. Those who designed for example the landscape on a planet vs inside a building must be so far apart in talent it's mind boggling.

    Of course Meta Critic gives this game like 8-9-10/10 "incredible space journey, game of the year" though when the community reviews comes out tomorrow I'm sure we're looking at 4-5/10 depending how biased and realistic/optimistic you are.

    Will force myself to try it some more but not really enjoying any of it so far.

    I am NOT going to review the technical side of the game. It's not perfect, but, that said...it is by far the BEST Bethesda release I have played in my lifetime.

    Starfield is great. Simple. If you loved Skyrim, Fallout 4 you will love this. It's right there. The whole space aspect is more of a backdrop than a core mechanic. But it works (For me) and I am having the best time

    The best way to describe it is: 'It's Fallout 4 in Space" Basicly.

    I have had NO gamebreaking bugs. Game runs at a solid 40-50 FPS on my RTX3070. Is that perfect? hell no. BUt its playable. And I am certain that future patches and optimizations will bring that number up further.

    I rate this game a solid 8/10. It works for me. And I sunk 30-ish hours into it already.

    I have the premium edition so I've been able to play this game for quite a while already.

    Lore is non existent in the outer worlds, when you clean an enemy outpost in other games there's always the story of how they ended up there, here it's just clean->loot and that's it. Creatures are not interesting at all. All the super complex mechanisms to research, craft, mod etc it's an overkill and useless at the end.

    But the truth is, the only way I could sum up my experience with Starfield is: BORING. Playing it feels like a chore for me, I can't wait to stop. I found myself creating the most creative excuses to avoid playing this game.
    If I could, I would return this game 10/10.

    P.S. FORGOT TO SAY: It's unplayable without NVIDIA Filters tool. Everything looks so green and gamma is so offset that it makes you wonder what's wrong with their developers monitors. You have to tweak your own filters in order to make this game look normal. Is this normal for a 2023 AAA game?

    starfield, bethesda's next gen game, the bethesda product with the longest years of development, let's start by talking about the graphics, the first thing that catches the eye, the environments are carefully constructed, with good design and good graphic quality, the character models are ok, not bad enough to bother but certainly far from being good, but now we come to one of the greatstarfield, bethesda's next gen game, the bethesda product with the longest years of development, let's start by talking about the graphics, the first thing that catches the eye, the environments are carefully constructed, with good design and good graphic quality, the character models are ok, not bad enough to bother but certainly far from being good, but now we come to one of the great sore points of the work, the facial animations, the characters are as expressive as a stone, sometimes they are so not very expressive that they become almost disturbing, this low quality ruins the experience, I wasn't able to get attached to anyone and scenes that could have been exciting were only boring or ridiculous, to this we add a complete lack of cutscenes and direction during the dialogues it doesn't improve the situation, the game lacks some graphic details that would serve to increase immersion, which is essential in games like this, the vegetation is poorly made, it doesn't interact with the player or with his actions and in general it's not very convincing , the physics of the water is identical to that of Skyrim and is truly unwatchable, the environmental destructibility is non-existent and the effects are old
    the ai, the enemies are not very reactive and are rarely a real threat and the companions sabotage you by only annoying you,
    shooting in a city will have no repercussions, no one will wonder what is happening and the police will stay still, but if you steal a bowl they will come and give you a fine,
    the shooting does its job, it's a step forward compared to the fallout,
    melee combat, on the other hand, is not satisfying and the spongy nature of the enemies is felt too much
    exploration, perhaps the most controversial thing in the game, the planets are separated by a loading, many are procedurally generated, others are not, the problem is that you find yourself changing planets too often, you spend more time in the menus than in the planets, and even the main planets, in addition to the cities, are essentially plains with some plants and animals but without anything truly unique, at most a few outposts which however reuse the same 2 assets in an almost ridiculous way, space exploration is useless and not very stimulating, you hardly find yourself exploring space and this also makes the creation of the ship superfluous, the game is a continuous rapid journey and loading between one city and another, even small things such as loading to enter internal areas are obsolete today,
    longevity, the strong point of the game, hundreds of planets, quests and a lot of things to do, the problem with Starfield is that it does a lot of things but doesn't do anything really well, I don't see how this game is next gen and I don't understand how Todd Howard can say this game is well optimized on pc, you need a 2080ti to play the game at stable 60 FPS at 1080p, it's ridicolous how such a old game need such a hardware, and the graphics option are terrible, no texture quality, no gamma, no FPS lock, this game is honestly disappointing in almost every way

    I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

    In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
