I preordered this. I found it to have an empty borinig world, rubbish space combat, and the AI for enemies rubbish. The menus were not intuitive for me either, thank goodness for Steam refund.

This game is boring. I know it's a Bethesda game, I've played them all. There's just no "substance" to keep me interested the story, find these goofy artifacts. I guess Fed Ex etc doesn't exist in the future. I also apparently can be part of every faction, like even competing ones this wasn't the case in Fallout.

There's really no point at all for space craft, since it's basically cut scenes, maybe a combat mission. Once you have visited a planet/local you'll be fast traveling there any way. There are way too many copy and paste locales, for as many years as this was in development, more hand crafted locales would have kept my interest.

    3) All the planets are dull copy-paste. There are 4-5 interesting story planets and 3 large cities. And then, of them, only Neon City is interesting
    4) In fact, the game is even more grind **** than No Man's Sky. Only in the NMS, at least there are no downloads and flights between planets are not a stupid choice on the map and with the expectation of downloads
    5) The introduction is VERY long. I need to install a alternative start mod. Even longer than in Skyrim. It feels like the introduction is delayed for 40-45 minutes
    6) The characters are dull **** Take a guy from Fallout 4 with ANOTHER SETTLEMENT IN NEED OF YOUR HELP!!! If there were interesting quests in Skyrim, then in 2 days of playing 7-8 hours in Starfield, I found only space pirates who liked them at first, but quickly their quests just slipped into a dull ****.

I won't say anything about the technical condition, the MB will be fixed.

This is a single fallout 76. With PNG pictures of planets. That's all I can say about the game. And then, fall 76 is interesting at least by co-op

Starfield should have been the most open-ended Bethesda game to date. Instead, it is the most limited. There aren't 1000 planets to explore. There is 1 planet to explore, with a dozen or so color schemes to make it a 'new' planet. You can't actually explore the planets, or space, in a meaningful way. The best thing about this game, like so many others lately, was the marketing and hype.

The graphics are good, the light effects as well and it is a good space Fallout 4, but I didn't pay 69,99 dollars to play a space Fallout 4. Same physics bug from Fallout is still here.

To finish it off, you thought of adding pronouns to a game? Is this really where you want to focus your effort? OMG!

On a technical level, while I do not believe it is up to par with todays standards, I do believe it is a big leap for BGS. This game just feels annoying and empty to play. The loading screens and exploration bother me a lot. Exploring inside buildings feels like a headache instead of fun. I dont know what happened with this game. I have read other reviews of people who have put a lot more time than me and it makes me feel justified in not wanting to play the game more. To be honest, with a delivery like this, I worry about Elder Scrolls 6. I know they treat ES like gold but BGS has been lacking for me lately. AI opponents doesn't exist, travelling solved by menus - your ship is for good look on parking or do limited moves on planet orbit. Exploration on planets is boring and annoying, didn't find out ground vehicles - funny.
Fight with ships vs more opponents the same time is boring and really hard even on normal mode (3/5 lvl), fight on planet is 2ez even on the hardest level -.- Shooting feeling is quite good, nothing special, but at least doesn't suck. Quests and npcs are tragic - most of quest based on start in A point, go to B point, go back to A point, go to C point, back to A point, check D and E points, and finish it on A point - and all with your feet and menus to travel on larger distances.

Dialogs, bleh - shallow, not interesting, and this persuasion system is one of the worst in history. Are u really proud of these dialog lines? Gratz, if it is advantage of this title. Every time 3 options - "Yes, i wanna do this", "I can do this", "No, I am not interested" with different words.

Menus, UI, equipment - guys who implemented or created this crap should be arrested. Upgrade base or ship is hard and not intuitive.

And many many more.. Really i was hyped and i wanted love this game, I was giving this title 11/10 before i started play.. 2. Starfield is not optimised. I get frame drops and lags even on my rig, which is powered by an RTX4090. Seriously?

    3. The game was designed for the console and then ported to the PC. Cause Starfield was focused on being an Xbox console exclusive. So the menus, gameplay etc., are more designed for console/controller.

    4. Combat is fun. Yes you heard me right. The combat is a highlight of this game. It is tactile, impactful and the guns are quite fun. Customisations to guns are also quite good.

    5. Dialogue is weird. Often times you are left staring into the eyes of the NPC, sometimes, your soul gets caught in between.

Let's take it, cut out of it all the balance, all the humor, all the unusual design
It looks very very much like the game was made on the skeleton of The Outer Worlds 2
Next, we take Fallout 3, cut out all the interesting dialogues, all the mechanics, the hit effect, and so on.
But the gameplay is Fallout 3 one-on-one, all with the same stupid behavior of the characters.
All with the same square and jerky animation
All the same stupid opponents and their behavior, which are a rod on you, only in Fallout the opponents were plot-inscribed, someone was in heavy armor, someone mutants, someone interesting monsters.
There are just empty, chaotically running dummies
Hey, sorry, where did the people who did Crysis 1, Farcry 2 and F.E.A.R. etc. get lost
In Crysis 1, it was interesting for the player to explore this jungle, especially compared to Starfield. FarCry 1 – took the story and gameplay, Farcry 2 went downhill, but from the point of view of mechanics, it turned out to be outstanding. Prey is better, even Doom
You will say, but this is an RPG, and you compare it with single-player games
I will upset you, this is not an RPG, here is Dark Souls RPG, in a normal idea of an RPG, we make saves, plot, NPC, map and everything - the classic RPG representative is ready
Do you want something new, and even Cyberpank 2077 was better, albeit with technical problems, but it was at least filled with something.
There are no bugs in Starfield, okay, but what are the bugs in the Bethesda presentation?
At the same time, Microsoft has Obsidian, which maybe could have made at least The Outer Worlds 1.5 out of the game, maybe this is it?
The same dialogues, the same animations, the same head turns
The gaming industry has not yet broken through the bottom, because it keeps on games, like Dark Souls (although I honestly admit it's not for me), Red Dead Redemption 2, even, even Death Stranding, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (2019), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I had boring dialogues in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, yet in the first game they were to be more lively
But in Starfield, the dialogues have long rotted and turned into dust, you are surrounded by only robots, dummies
NPCs move like robots and behave the same way. And how creepy they are, I don't say anything at all.
And again, Starfield is worse than Skyrim!
Attention, good news, we should not make a competitor to Skyrim since it will sell it for another 20 years. Yes, Captain! GipGip to Captain Todd! (no, not HypGip)
After each bad game, you realize that the previous ones were not so bad
Want a shock? This game is worse, even than Dead Island 2, there was at least an attempt to do something new
Attention!!! And yes, you will not be able to return the money for the game, since the game starts very slowly, in fact 2 hours have passed, and the game has not even started yet.
But now we can blame neural networks for everything
Since the game is obviously a very long long-term construction and it was done in the last year and dialogues were either immediately written by incompetents and neural networks or by the end of the game
As soon as it gets better, then the neural network wrote this dialog
In the game, all the dialogues are written by 6-year-olds
At the NPC, only saliva does not drip from the corner of the mouth
The introduction is * the plot is * the story is *
The game seems to have been made on the knee for a year
And most importantly, there are a lot of free downloads
    RAM: 16 GB
    AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel Core i7-6800K
NVIDIA GeForce 1070 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 5700
Where did you get them from???From what ceiling did you write them and get them?
The game looks like on Xbox360, and if it doesn't, then the lighting spoils everything and you can't tell it from the same Fallout 3 of 2008, when they released Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in 2006

Every 5 minutes of loading, even more often.
Yes, this * on any bucket should go
Most of all, the comments of the developers are "impressive". "Todd Howard answered the question by emphasizing that Starfield is a next-gen game. Bethesda's developers have optimized it, and users just need to upgrade their computers to keep up with the latest technology." I wonder where Todd found the transfer technology in his game? Maybe he should look back at 2005. Empty, non-living DICORATIONS are not yet advanced technologies

For a game in which you think you'd be able to do space exploration, there is ZERO of it. There is no enjoyment in travelling to a planet like a simulator as you just fast jump to that planet.
Take away all the cutscenes and dialogue scnes and you are left with very little gameplay.
If you are thinking of buying the game, i suggest watching walkthroughs first and seeing just how utterly boring this game is.

Good lord this game is shockingly bad!
You want to do a quest? Sure thing, just navigate 4 menus to target and fast travel the location of the task at hand.
What? You expected to actually use your ship and fly there yourself? lol no chance.
This is a very dull, re skinned version of fallout / the elder scrolls.

Yet another buggy broken release from bethesda.
Anything that can be considered 'new' in the game like shipbuilding is even buggier than everything else.

I've found myself wasting time and reloading over and over due to bugs and glitches.

It's so empty and boring. Like if you took fallout 4 and stretched that amount of content over a galaxy.

Most things are procedurally generated so you raid the same abandoned mining outposts or weapons facilities over and over.

As interesting as the space theme is at first, they managed to make it very boring very fast. Not to mention that if you don't want to sit through 5-7 second long unskippable cutscenes for each of the following: to sit in your pilots seat, take off from the planet, grav jump to another planet, then land on that planet - you quicky just resort to fast traveling everywhere which really kinda kills the whole space thing.

They really did just take the bog-standard bethesda experience and add space ships to it.

Just a collection of random collection of individual game mechanics mashed into a sandbox without any real rhyme or reason.
And if that was my only criticism I would still give the game an average score - maybe a 5 or 6.

But then comes all the bugs, poor PC optimization, terrible filters on everything, terrible UI design, terrible system design. Awful control mapping that has the 'next dialogue' button assigned to the same key as 'fire ship lasers' which has resulted in me shooting at an ally more than once. Like, imagine if a real spaceship did that. If the button to "Close comms" was the same as the button to shoot your guns. Whoever designed that control scheme would be laughed at harder than the dude who thought it was a good idea to control an actual submarine with a game controller.

A really low carry limit that has you constantly dumping your inventory.

And why can my space-ship initially only hold 2-3x as much cargo as I can carry on my person?
Like, the starting ship has the physical space to cram in a couple dozen people....
And the ships have mass. And if the mass gets too high your ships speed and handling goes down.
It would be simply to just calculate the mass of all the stored items on your ship and have that effect the ships movement. But no... terribly small cargo holds because intelligent design is not something bethesda does.

The game is buggy and poorly designed. It does not deserve your money.

-Space combat is boring and avoidable.
Which means all that shipbuilding you had fun with was for nothing. You can just hit start and fast travel to the planet right when you get to locations avoiding all space battles. Which is smart since space battles are so bad.

    - Citizen NPCS.
The fact that each "city" is flooded with "Citizen" instead of named NPCs as all other Bethesda games have is criminal and lazy. I don't even believe that any of the old Bethesda staff worked on this because of this fact. Also, all the citizens say is variations of the phrase "WHOA {Cityname} is so nice" Good job trying to enforce you bad city designs with generic NPC's saying how nice it is.

    - Named NPCs
So you did put some in. They are not the easiest to find, except well if they are a shop keeper. Thats right, in the future you might find yourself working ALL DAY AND NIGHT being a cash register. The named NPCs that you do find are almost exclusively shop keepers that man the station forever with no breaks or time off. They have about 2-4 unique things to say but mostly just sell stuff. The issue here is, they should just be Kiosk. Why in the future would any humans have to do this job. Or a robot should do it. Very bad use of Named NPCs.

    - City Designs
You found 1 of around 5 or so real cities! Thats right. Thats less than Fallout series which is a dead planet. Turns out the universe is more dead than a dystopian nuclear wasteland. Now on these 4 cities (and 1 decent outpost) you notice that the humans that went to these places must be really into themes. Take a pick
Poorly ripped off Olisar from Star Citizen town! (look it up) Where is the weapons shop? Thats right the residential district. Nothing is in the Commercial district, dummy.
Cowboy city - new vegas fan put this bad boy in here. Too small to be a real city though.
Edge city- Someone clearly liked cyberpunk and forced it in here.
And last City- Legit just a bunker on mars. Good job, not.

    - Skills requiring milestones after purchase
Best save some of those goods to sell until you buy the next level or merchant. Takes up to 125 unique sells to max the skill milestone so you can finish leveling it up. Worst Trait/skill tree.

    - Combat is dull. enemy AI is just not good.

    - Quest are bad. Some questlines (not many of them in the game) end randomly (looking at you Repo man questline) It is really sad that it's like they started on it, then got distracted with something else and forgot to atleast have the NPC's say "thanks well were all caught up" or anything.

    - Planets being dull with the same activities to do.
Same 8 or so random encounters spawn at each planet. Imagine if Skyrim if you fast travel to a marker just to spawn about 3 minutes away from where you suppose to go, just to have that place you're going to be the guards with a prisoner every single time. Thats the gameplay loop.

    Summarize!!!

Shipbuilding is fun and walking around the ship is neat. No interactivity with the inside of the ship for the most part, which sucks. But, can't win them all. In this case, any. So take that the building is fun.

Thats it. The rest of the game is LAZY EA level garbage. Random generated **** being piled on your plate. No handcrafted anything, because that takes work. I'm guessing they assume the Modders will fix/make their game for them.

    2 points for shipbuilder

Just play fallout 4 if you want a shooter with rpg elements. Starfield is basically worse version of that game.
    - no blood and gore, even robot parts don't get damaged
    - very low enemy variety, for 20 hours I've killed 3 different alien creatures, some space suite guys, 2 different kinds of robots and a turret. In Fallout 4 I would see 10 times more enemy diversity. - no underwater

    - no underwater swimming
    - every gameplay feature like weapon customization and pickpocketing is behind skill system
    - no power armor
    - landscape is generated and boring
    - worse performance
    - more bugs
    - no cool vaults/dungeons
    - character is constantly encumbered. And you can't even turn items to scrap.
    - terrible balance, companions doing 6 times your damage and immortal, healthpacks very rarely drop from enemies, this leads to safe and boring gameplay.
    - ludo narrative dissonance, often you get a quest to deal with some very dangerous people, but in reality they are some low lvl hobos that can't hurt you.
    - bad ai, super passive and with unlimited ammo they can will shoot you from distance with smg for hours even if they can't hit.
    - bad ui, instead of compact spreadsheet or icon grid you have about 6 items on screen with info only for selected items and no icons.
    - you can't fly anywhere, space part is just so you can shoot some ships or dock to a station one in a while.
    - even character editor is worse, you can't grab face parts and drag anymore.
    - quest choices are limited, your actions don't matter, you can't just kill quest npc, and they will resurrect and act like nothing happened.
    + item models are cool
+ ship building system is nice
+ 50 different models of guns and you can upgrade them, best part about the game
+ really large world, you can waste hundreds of hours (if devs and modders fix it)

It's leaned too heavily into things Bethesda ISN'T known for (base building/resource gathering) and forgotten the roots that Bethesda IS loved for. Exploration and a sense of an expansive world to get side tracked in while on another mission. The gunplay and weapon variety is a nice step forward, but even then nothing that other games don't do much better.

The optimisation is awful for a game that looks mid tier, or a few years dated graphically.

I really love Skyrim and Fallout 4, but the new Bethesda project upset me: there is a huge racial diversity in the world of TES, and in Fallout 4, in addition to the people we are familiar with, there are ghouls and supermutats.

I find myself unable to keep playing as every time I try to play now it hits me with a loading screen(albeit quick) to another location instead of organically going to a place and then unlocking the option to fast travel if you want to. Game is fun when you're on a main planet or locale that is filled with quests and you don't leave it. Because once you do the game fades. Expand

Mediocre graphic but requires high specs: Textures won't stand a close look. And Todd said you should just update your pc for the game.

Loading screen everywhere: It has an Open World tag but, go upstairs? Loading screen. Take the elevator? Loading screen. Go outdoors? Loading screen. Get in your spaceship? Loading screen. Take flight? Loading screen.
Bad UI design and interaction logic: The art elements are not bad but the interaction is just counter-intuitive. Like in the loot window you only see a name and don't know if it's a weapon or what type of weapon it is, no info except a freaking name. I have to open inventory and scroll the whole world to find what I just picked up and see what's what. That's true immersive experience.
Some pointless mechanisms like stealth: It's just nonsense and horrible, playing stealth is torturing yourself. Bethesda owns Arkane yet they learn nothing from the Dishonored series.
Some "fans" keep saying like mods and other community supports things: Nonsense, I paid a full 3A title price to Bethesda, so I'm commenting on their efforts only, which suck huge.
If this game was released 10 years ago, it would be fine. But if this can be acceptable as of today, gamers would be pathetic.

I would have given this game a 6, if it were still 2014. But the game is a collection of mediocracy even by 2014 standards.

Nothings catching at all, you get a McGuffin that doesnt really get a good explanation or any reason why you are doing it.

AI companions are running in front of your line of fire continously, if you leave your cover to shoot, they jump to the spot, so you cant get back under cover again. They push you or block you and the urge to kill them becomes stronger with the minute. Enemies so far are either white or red copies of yourself and bullet sponges, compensating for the weak Ai.

I have no idea, which game the offical reviewers were testing, but it cannot this thing, that we gamers got.

Even if the dangling carrot of "Its becoming interesting after x hours" as other reviewers claim i am not able to force myself to keep playing this with the remote chance, that something might get better.

a 2011 game launch in 2023, with the same engine of fallout 4 and boring aspects of gameplay. storywise is Ok, but something that needs 7 years to became what became, its irrational. Half of the budget of the game, if no more, are going to merchandise, because, if is not, this game was never be considered a AAA game.

How much more damning can faint praise get when the discussion of a game’s quality focuses on how it’s less incompetently cobbled together than previous ones? What does it mean when you're so used to shipping broken games, you think "less broken" is an actual brag? Let’s be real, it doesn’t mean much at all when your last game’s level of quality sat at the bedrock below the barrel. To call Starfield the least broken Bethesda game is akin to calling any single TERF the least embarrassing fascist. Then again, given how Zenimax and Bethesda seem to treat trans employees, that comparison may hit too close to home. Starfield’s unintentionally comedic marketing claims might very well be true. It could indeed be, as other reviews have breathlessly proclaimed, “the most polished Bethesda game to date.” That doesn’t mean it’s actually polished, does it? Being the least glitchy game is not the same as being a glitch-free game, and if there’s one thing Starfield ain’t, it’s that. I can of course only speak about my own experience, which has been of a game no more laudable than the digital wreckage that was Fallout 76. Its abundant issues range from the small - enemies getting stuck in doors, NPCs materializing out of thin air, etc. - to the thoroughly horrendous. Really do mean horrendous. I’ve been perpetually stuck on dialog screens, unable to advance a conversation while a character silently gurns at me. I’ve regularly become trapped in my ship’s cockpit, unable to move until I’ve sat back down in my seat and stood up again. Companions have disappeared. Mission-critical enemies have spawned inside walls and rendered almost impossible to kill. I’ve gotten softlocked more times than is forgivable, and I dread to think how much progress I’ve cumulatively lost as a result. By the time the game outright crashed, it felt like hitting the middle square of a bingo card.

In decades past, Bethesda’s games have gotten away with being busted beyond reason because they were “so ambitious,” but any leeway that might have historically earned has long since dried up. Higher reaching productions from less wealthy companies haven’t been half so defective, not to mention dated. Compared to its contemporaries, the complacency on display is almost offensive. While Starfield’s galaxy is nebulously “big,” its vast array of barren planets populated by recycled assets is absolutely no justification for what this thing truly is - just another buggy Bethesda game following an ancient blueprint that hasn’t evolved creatively or mechanically since Fallout **** 3. On a fundamental level, Starfield plays exactly like any other Bethesda game, only with features borrowed - and subsequently lessened – from No Man’s Sky and The Outer Worlds. The same rudimentary combat (only without VATS to wallpaper over how sloppy it is). The same archaic approach to exploration and questing. The same stilted dialog propelled by non-sequitur exchanges. The same moronic A.I. and robotic animations. The same old narrative cliches in a world of cardboard where every stranger tells you their life story and immediately trusts you with sensitive tasks for seemingly no other reason than the fact you’re a videogame protagonist and they somehow know it. Hell, it’s even got the same worthlessly clumsy third-person mode we’ve seen for almost twenty years, just to hammer home how shockingly little Bethesda has advanced as a creative entity.

People have referred to Starfield as No Man’s Skyrim, and while some have intended that as a slight against this game, I actually think it’s more insulting to Hello Games’ work. No Man’s Sky at least had a universe you could seamlessly explore, with planets you were able to approach and land on in real time. That was actually ambitious. Starfield’s planets can be flown to manually over the course of hours, but you can’t land on them without a menu, loading screens (get used to seeing those), and dull cutscenes. lso, let’s give the devil its due - Hello Games has worked damn hard to improve No Man’s Sky far beyond its launch version to the point it still has massive summer updates at no extra cost. Bethesda’s so averse to improvement that multiple games released years apart feature the exact same unaddressed bugs. It’s a little gauche, admittedly, to draw so many direct comparisons to other games in a review.

If you’re the kind of person who thinks videogames peaked with Fallout 3's launch version and they’ve required neither evolution nor improvement since, this game is absolutely for you.If you believe Bethesda doesn’t need to exhibit growth as an artistic outlet and hasn’t had to change a thing about the way it’s made games since 2008, I can safely say you’ll adore Starfield.

Trust Bethesda to make a game exploring endless space boring as all hell. Like Fallout 4 but worse in most ways, plus a TERRIBLE PC port, I have a 4070Ti and the game barely hits a stable 60, usually lower if anything is happening around. Thanks again Todd for reminding me how overrated BGS is. Retire the damn 2 decade old engine and make better games.

The graphics of the almost three-year-old Cyberpunk 2077 wipe the floor with the Bethesda novelty. And when it comes to cleverly staged dialogue set to music, the developers could have taken a leaf out of Baldur's Gate 3's book. If we add to this the well-known Bethesda quirks such as the crude interface design, the laborious inventory management, the omnipresent loading screens and the numerous glitches, and add new weaknesses such as the fragmented universe and the dull, procedurally generated content (so many systems and planets and so little ingenuity in fauna, flora and space anomalies), then we can understand every gamer who is disappointed by Starfield, because the strengths that do exist no longer outweigh the weaknesses mentioned. It's just a very boring gameplay, weak dialogues, there is practically no exploration of the planets, people's facial mimics are unpolished, similar to F3, the graphics are also bad (but the old graphics engine is probably to blame). Flying in space and ships combat also offer nothing, there are a few options, but nothing more, the UI is tragic. There is no point in building an outpost or doing side missions, because the game itself is empty anyway. Only the sound effects are not bad, but nothing more, this game does not have the feeling that you are among the stars, a big disappointment. Right now, this game seems to be in its very early stage. I fell in love with Starfield. It's my cup of sci-fi and I can't wait to spend the next thirty, fifty, maybe seventy hours here. I enjoy the exploration, the shootouts, the art style, the ship building, and the diverse worlds. I gratefully acknowledge the good optimization and the absence of major bugs. But I can't overlook the flaws. There are bad animations, ugly faces and repetitive moments.[Issue#329]

In a year dominated by sequels to franchise favorites, there was a hope that Starfield would carve its own path to success. While the team at Bethesda should be commended for taking such a big swing, there’s no denying that the game doesn’t feel like a cohesive work. Maybe continued support and future sequels will make something more meaningful out of a work that is clearly deeply enamored with both science fiction and space exploration. Unforunately, this first launch has had far more mixed results than desired.
