Squadrons is the sort of game that EA needs to make more of. Tight, focused experiences that meet a need perfectly. Any fan of space combat should be diving into this the first chance they get.

After such a long wait for a successor to X-Wing and TIE Fighter, Star Wars: Squadrons feels like a lucky shot with a proton torpedo.

Star Wars: Squadrons delivers on great dogfighting, even when its campaign doesn't live up to its full potential.

Star Wars: Squadrons is ultimately the space shooter long awaited by fans, with careful execution and always respectful of the original material ... a success, no more no less.

Star Wars: Squadrons revives some of the best space combat from older games, but its delivery stumbles with a forgettable story and condensed multiplayer variety.

The typical gamer will find Star Wars Squadrons a difficult game with a bland storyline and poor content. Others will have an opportunity to take out their joysticks and find out just how great the classic Star Wars sims were. It's good that the gaming community was reminded of the classics like X-Wings and TIE Fighers, but I'm still waiting for a true gem to come in the future.

There’s a good concept at the core of Star Wars: Squadrons, as flying a space fighter and managing its systems can be a lot of fun, however, you have to be a very dedicated Star Wars fan to enjoy a drab campaign with just a handful of memorable moments and watered-down multiplayer modes from Battlefront 2.

It’s nice to see a focused technical flight simulator be released. So far, I’m really enjoying the single player campaign. Missing briefing and squadron pilots are a fun group. Combat missions are cool and they keep mixing up the mission types. I love the bouncing back and forth between Rebels and the Empire. The racial diversity is well done and inclusive. Really my biggest complaint is not having smart defaults for Joystick HOTAS and UI when using a joystick complaining about a key not being bound, let not telling you what the keyboard shortcut is (until you touch the mouse). Overall loving the game! Expand

Combining the spirit of the old space simulators with the canon of Star Wars, Star Wars Squadrons is very good and definitely deserves attention.

    What I was missing:
    -Third person view
    -More space aliens for customization
-More representation. Yes, Gunny and Gray turned out to be very good, but I would like to see more open representatives of minorities both in the game and in general, in the Star Wars universe. I was also hoping to see Grey's husband in the story.
-The Phoenix Squadron look does not match the Rebels animated series. I was hoping to see the blue-green camouflage of the fighters under Sato's command.

Really hoping for strong post launch support or a successor title from the devs. It's ironic that the first EA published Star Wars title with a hard "no DLC planned" line is the only one so far where DLC would be really welcome. For maximal enjoyment:

    1) Play with a controller (yes, even on PC)
    2) Rebind all the controls to your liking
    3) Join a community where you can roll with a 5-man group. It's *so much fun* to play with a team, even if you just met the guys.

Lacking so much for VR but the game gives a stellar visual style and decent story telling.
a lot of reworking needs to be done for match making.

The story of Battlefront 2 had its problems, but it was a well ended Game of Thrones compared to this. Empty characters, zero enjoyable or memorable moments, repetitive gameplay, very short but still painfully boring. The playable character is a mute and you can't ever see him, the dialogues are totally irrelevant and a waste of time. PvP also lacks content so it's not tempting at all after 2-3 rounds of Dogfight and Fleet Battles. Technically it's a joke, the visuals and sounds are mediocre (would be ok 5 years ago) but the music is simply copied file by file from Battlefront 2. And I'm all for diversity, but not having a single white male even in the Empire is nonsense. Giving a character color without personality is contraproductive and just strengthens the stereotype of minority characters being bad. Expand

Left the game when controls were complete garbage, returned to be confirmed that the rest is so too...
