Dec 9, 2019Shovel Knight Showdown is exactly what it should be: a fun, fast-paced take on the Smash Bros. version of a fighting game, but with all of the Shovel Knight you could ever want stuffed into it. The fact that it balances itself so perfectly between new players and those who have spent more time on it makes it excellent as a party game too. Expect to lose many hours (and lives) to this shovel-tastic fighting game. Yes, writing shovel-tastic hurt, but it’s just that good.

Dec 9, 2019ShovelKnight: Showdown is a frenetic fighting game, with very fluid sprites in pixel art and a lot of different play styles. It is very fun inl ocal multiplayer, but because of the lack of the online multiplayer it's not for every type of player.

Dec 9, 2019Shovel Knight Showdown is a rare misstep from a developer known for pixel-perfection. It’s a fun diversion for a few dozen minutes but falls short of the base game, and the brilliant single-player expansions that came afterward.
-
Dec 11, 2019Needing other people is what downgrades Shovel Knight Showdown below its legendary kin. Despite good intentions, this smattering of modes and options never quite come together as something worth seeking out on its own.
-
Dec 10, 2019Shovel Knight: Showdown is a good idea that fans will enjoy in brief bursts. But the restrictive movement options prevent it from becoming a great example of the genre.
-
Dec 10, 2019The fact that it’s free if you have the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove means it’s worth giving a go, but don’t expect it to keep you going back for more.
