Shovel Knight Showdown is exactly what it should be: a fun, fast-paced take on the Smash Bros. version of a fighting game, but with all of the Shovel Knight you could ever want stuffed into it. The fact that it balances itself so perfectly between new players and those who have spent more time on it makes it excellent as a party game too. Expect to lose many hours (and lives) to this shovel-tastic fighting game. Yes, writing shovel-tastic hurt, but it’s just that good.

All of the characters feel well adapted from their normal game counter parts and are easy to learn while most of them being unique

If you ever wanted to play a worse, more frustrating, more visual clusterflipping version of Smash Bros then play Shovel Knight Showdown. IfIf you ever wanted to play a worse, more frustrating, more visual clusterflipping version of Smash Bros then play Shovel Knight Showdown. If you want to actually enjoy yourself, just play Smash Bros. The fighting is dire, you can be stunlocked to death, take one hit and fall off the edge while you do your flinching animation, and can face a final boss that is so unfun to fight against I would rather have dental surgery. The story tie-ins are cute, the taunts are nice to see, and it is admittedly cool to play as each shovel knight character but unless you've got a BURNING desire to play as propellor knight don't touch this.
