Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened (2023) is a phenomenal mystery game and sequel with an intriguing storyline, awesome features, and beautiful graphics. Even though the game is shorter than the previous one, I think this is currently my favorite Sherlock Holmes game because the side and main quests never felt like a dull moment. There was always something to look forward to and a motive to keep playing, unveiling the reason for the people vanishing. Although I wished the game continued after Chapter VIII, I understand. Now, I hope there will be a third game in the series. Maybe it will answer the ending. I cannot wait to see the future of the younger Sherlock Holmes series. We might even see him grow.

With a sharp narrative focus, engaging gameplay, and a fresh take on its characters as younger men, Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened functions as both a stellar remake and a compelling sequel to Chapter One.

For a title one year in development, Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened impresses with enjoyable — albeit simple — puzzles, a fun story, and beautiful visuals.

Sherlock Holmes The Awakened (2023) is a phenomenal remake and addition to Frogwares’ long list of adventures, leaning more towards the supernatural but still fitting snuggly into the Arthur Conan Doyle-style of the mystery genre. While there are minor issues with presentation and gameplay, those who are Sherlock Holmes fans (or H.P. Lovecraft fans) should definitely experience this—even those who have played the 2006 original or the 2008 remaster.

The (old) new adventure of Sherlock Holmes was a success. The tentacle madness grabs you by the throat and the first big case of the duo Sherlock and John is on the way to a successful series. The Lovecraftian plot makes the detective much more special and greenlights more cases. The Awakened is more than a successful case of Sherlock Holmes.

This supernatural adventure of Frogwares manages to surpass the original game by leaps and bounds. Whether you've played the previous game or not, you'll enjoy this new version just as much.

An enthralling horror mystery that, outside of its relatively short length, doesn't seem to have suffered at all from the difficult circumstances of its development.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a solid, long-lived detective adventure profoundly different from the original 2007 version. It’s a pity that the graphics are not up to the rest.

The Awakened is worth more for what it represents than for the game itself. Between graphics and gameplay it tastes old even if it is new, but it knows how to be a completely independent remake of the 2006 inspirer of the same name.

Frogwares delivers a remake that hardly convinces us as the next step after Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. If judged on its own merits, it delivers what it promises without impressing.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a high-quality and well-polished remake which brings the old classic to modern standards. The game offers a good story, intriguing characters and diverse locations to explore, but don't expect challenging puzzles and gameplay.

A delightful remake of an exciting crossover between Lovecraftian myths and the unshakeable logic of Sherlock Holmes.

Sherlock Holmes The Awakened is a good remake of a good game. It's not the right chapter if you're looking for innovation, in any case, since in terms of gameplay it takes up the same mechanics as Frogwares' most recent games. We recommend the game to fans, but anyone who was not impressed by Chapter One or The Sinking City is unlikely to change their opinion with The Awakened.

  1. It's the second game in a row that I've reviewed and said I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a fan, but given The Awakened was Kickstarted (with some fund-raising incentives that I'm not really on board with to boot) I'm preaching to the converted. In as much as you, like me, might want to see Frogwares continue, both to exist and to keep making their weirdo Sherlock Holmes games, you should check The Awakened out.

There are some flaws, though it's hard for me to be picky when the developers made this game during a literal war. Still, it is absolutely worth playing. Full Review »
