Jun 22, 2023Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened (2023) is a phenomenal mystery game and sequel with an intriguing storyline, awesome features, and beautiful graphics. Even though the game is shorter than the previous one, I think this is currently my favorite Sherlock Holmes game because the side and main quests never felt like a dull moment. There was always something to look forward to and a motive to keep playing, unveiling the reason for the people vanishing. Although I wished the game continued after Chapter VIII, I understand. Now, I hope there will be a third game in the series. Maybe it will answer the ending. I cannot wait to see the future of the younger Sherlock Holmes series. We might even see him grow.

May 26, 2023With a sharp narrative focus, engaging gameplay, and a fresh take on its characters as younger men, Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened functions as both a stellar remake and a compelling sequel to Chapter One.
-
Apr 11, 2023For a title one year in development, Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened impresses with enjoyable — albeit simple — puzzles, a fun story, and beautiful visuals.
-
Aug 4, 2023Sherlock Holmes The Awakened (2023) is a phenomenal remake and addition to Frogwares’ long list of adventures, leaning more towards the supernatural but still fitting snuggly into the Arthur Conan Doyle-style of the mystery genre. While there are minor issues with presentation and gameplay, those who are Sherlock Holmes fans (or H.P. Lovecraft fans) should definitely experience this—even those who have played the 2006 original or the 2008 remaster.
-
Apr 21, 2023The (old) new adventure of Sherlock Holmes was a success. The tentacle madness grabs you by the throat and the first big case of the duo Sherlock and John is on the way to a successful series. The Lovecraftian plot makes the detective much more special and greenlights more cases. The Awakened is more than a successful case of Sherlock Holmes.
-
Apr 17, 2023This supernatural adventure of Frogwares manages to surpass the original game by leaps and bounds. Whether you've played the previous game or not, you'll enjoy this new version just as much.
-
Apr 12, 2023An enthralling horror mystery that, outside of its relatively short length, doesn't seem to have suffered at all from the difficult circumstances of its development.
-
Apr 11, 2023Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a solid, long-lived detective adventure profoundly different from the original 2007 version. It’s a pity that the graphics are not up to the rest.
-
May 5, 2023The Awakened is worth more for what it represents than for the game itself. Between graphics and gameplay it tastes old even if it is new, but it knows how to be a completely independent remake of the 2006 inspirer of the same name.
-
May 1, 2023Frogwares delivers a remake that hardly convinces us as the next step after Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. If judged on its own merits, it delivers what it promises without impressing.
-
May 15, 2023Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a high-quality and well-polished remake which brings the old classic to modern standards. The game offers a good story, intriguing characters and diverse locations to explore, but don't expect challenging puzzles and gameplay.
-
Apr 26, 2023A delightful remake of an exciting crossover between Lovecraftian myths and the unshakeable logic of Sherlock Holmes.
-
Apr 11, 2023Sherlock Holmes The Awakened is a good remake of a good game. It's not the right chapter if you're looking for innovation, in any case, since in terms of gameplay it takes up the same mechanics as Frogwares' most recent games. We recommend the game to fans, but anyone who was not impressed by Chapter One or The Sinking City is unlikely to change their opinion with The Awakened.
-
Apr 25, 2023Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is the direct product of an excessively-rushed development cycle. It suffers from questionable narrative direction, poor visual fidelity, and generic puzzles that will entertain the player at first, but quickly become tedious over time. While this is by no means a Sherlock Holmes game at its worst, it certainly falls short of the gold standard set by Frogwares themselves with their past entries. If you're an absolute Holmes diehard, The Awakened might scratch your itch, but if you're not already hooked by the Sherlock Holmes IP, then The Awakened probably won't do anything to pique your interest.
-
Apr 21, 2023If you feel that a detective story mixed with Lovecraftian occult is right up your alley - Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is THE game for you. But don’t expect a more ambitious storyline or challenging puzzles.
-
Apr 11, 2023Sherlock Holmes The Awakened is a competent remake featuring all the best features the series is known for, such as an engaging mystery and solid investigative gameplay. While the game is lacking in terms of innovation, doing away with the open-world setting seen in Chapter One, Frogwares developed Sherlock Holmes The Awakened it in less than a year and in the middle of a war, so no one should be disappointed that the game doesn't feel much different from past entries in the franchise.
-
Apr 18, 2023Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is a correct remake of the 2007 classic, which uses the mechanics and graphics of Sherlock Holmes Chapter One to update the Frrogwares game. Unfortunately, the circumstances of the conflict in Ukraine have affected the development and ambition of the project, which is a step behind the previous title of the franchise.
-
Apr 20, 2023It’s understandable why Sherlock Holmes The Awakened isn’t as polished as some of developer Frogwares’ previous Sherlock Holmes releases on Switch, but the poor performance and various rough edges add up to make this a weak version of a decent enough mystery adventure. The horror aspects don’t land very well, but figuring out the what, where, and how of each case is still quite satisfying. Mystery fans may well be able to put up with its issues, but they’d be well-advised to grab it on another platform if possible.
-
Apr 12, 2023While it's certainly impressive that Frogwares have managed to develop Sherlock Holmes The Awakened in just about a year and under terrible circumstances, the short development cycle is clearly evident in some areas. Ultimately the game feels caught between two worlds - not quite reaching the level of modern cinematic adventures and not being challenging enough to please fans of classic point-and-click games.
-
Apr 11, 2023While visually Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened has moved closer to current standards, in terms of gameplay it still offers less than any other installment of the series.
-
Apr 24, 2023The uncompromising investigation process, misdirected horror, tedious clue-searching, and unsatisfying story make Sherlock Holmes The Awakened a bit of a sad case.
-
Apr 12, 2023Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened could have been an intriguing clash of Cluedo/Clue with Cthulu, but instead it’s just a case of squandered potential.

Apr 12, 2023It's the second game in a row that I've reviewed and said I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a fan, but given The Awakened was Kickstarted (with some fund-raising incentives that I'm not really on board with to boot) I'm preaching to the converted. In as much as you, like me, might want to see Frogwares continue, both to exist and to keep making their weirdo Sherlock Holmes games, you should check The Awakened out.
