Resident Evil HD Remaster takes one of the best entries in the franchise and cleans it up for modern devices. It still holds up remarkably well. This is the perfect opportunity for newcomers to jump in, and hardcore fans can look forward to the definitive version of a survival horror classic.

The game that showed us what survival horror really means is still enticing in HD. It is freaky, it is frustrating and it is good. The mechanics of the original PlayStation version are still intact and thanks to better graphics and new voice acting this game is also worth while for newcomers.

As far as the basic HD remastering is concerned, Capcom has done a great job of updating and improving on the Gamecube release.

The thirteen year old remake is arguably the best game in the long running series, not only staying true to its source material, but expanding upon it greatly with new content directly built into the core story.

$20 is about the perfect price point for something like this. Don’t read spoilers, don’t use strategy guides, turn out the lights, and let yourself focus on the game for a while. Put away the cynicism. Yeah, in the cold light of day, Resident Evil is pretty silly, but if you let yourself react to it on its level, it’s frightening in all the right ways.

From the visuals to the sounds, Resident Evil has been polished. With the addition of the alternate controls, it’s given a modern touch that only enhances the experience. This is without a doubt the definitive way to play Resident Evil.

This game still made me jump… even after all these years.

Sure, it might be getting up there in years, but while the younger generation feels like it has to show off how ‘scary' it is with cheaper, higher-octane thrills, Resident Evil takes the time to really get under my skin, and considering how many times I leapt out of it, I'd say a bit of maturity isn't a bad thing.

Shinji Mikami's masterpiece is just as we remember it, only better. Capcom did a good job overhauling the once great-looking version of the best game in the survival horror genre. We are happy with its looks, the controls, and the way it keeps relevant in today standards. Resident Evil HD Remaster is a must have for newcomers in the series and veterans alike.

Though imperfect, Resident Evil HD Remaster is a good update to a now-classic remake.

Resident Evil HD Remaster has new modern control, is more intuitive, and has all the good gameplay mechanics that we saw on the original remake. Looks great in HD, but there's nothing news in terms of content.

This HD Remaster will be much appreciated and loved by fans of the original game, who will be willing to forgive its weaknesses. At the same time, it can attract newer audience too, as it maintains the superb atmosphere that made Resident Evil an all time classic.

If you’ve never played the first Resident Evil, then purchasing its HD remaster is a no-brainer. However, there’s enough here to convince old-timers to explore the Spencer Mansion once again.

While the fixed camera angles and the adventure-game like puzzles will shock more recent series fans it’s all still enjoyable, and the Crimson Head zombies, the great and ever-surprising design and the atmosphere ensures the remake feels like a unique entry in the series.

If you’ve already run through the mansion countless times, I don’t know if yet another shiny coat of paint will be enough to merit purchasing it again. However, if this is your first chance to play through the game that really brought the survival horror genre to light, it’s past time for you to experience one of the best titles of the 90s.

A brilliant, brutal survival horror dripping in atmosphere. It’s from the oldest of schools, but still offers a rewarding challenge.

Some of the older visual flaws detract from the experience and pulled me out of tense moments, but the gameplay hooked me right back in.

Resident Evil HD Remaster is a fairly useless purchase for those who already perfectly know the 2002 GameCube version. However this is still a great game, even though after 13 years it was perhaps better to update it a bit 'more apart for graphics and sound.

With reviewing remakes, I always tend to find myself in a bit of a bind: should I judge the original game by today’s standards or not? Maybe I should only look at the quality of the remake/remaster itself? But because Resident Evil HD Remaster is - in this version – a first time ever release on PC, and the original game is banned in Germany, I can wholeheartedly recommend the game to everyone who hasn’t been able to play the first Resident Evil yet. Personally, I really wouldn’t want to miss all the technical improvements. Though I do wish, they had also improved upon loading times and the inventory-system.
