Payday 2 has lost my interest completely after the micro transactions fiasco.

Overkill in general lied, stopped listening to the community and pushed out buggy updates.

Screw yourself Oversteal/Starsheez ... you are turning into EA. Never again. Your micro-transaction leeching might be the end of you; and if it is...know that the only thing that killed you was your greed.

Very fun game with loads of contents, all though after playing a long time it can be repetitive. If that happens get yourself 3 nice friends and have loads of fun running the heists co-op.

There has been loads of controversy around this game after the 4th Crimefest (Overkill makes an event of every year Payday2 has it's birthday) With microtransactions being added to the game as locked safes for weapons skins. These safes needs a key (drill) to open. That wouldn't be a problem for most people, but there is also stats boosts to these skins. Now how ever you feel about that this is a PVE game the stats boosts does not in anyway destroy your game. The stats boosts does not make you a god in anyway.

Overkill has since also backed down a bit on the microtransaction skins, and you now can also get the drill as a reward after a heist the same way you get the safe.

Now then would i recommend this game, i have played 1000 hours hell yes i would. In a group of friends it is one really fun co-op game.

We (the community of fans) have been lied to, manipulated, and squeezed of our hard earned coin. I've had enough. It was a great game, but it's time has passed.

If you enjoy having content walled off behind DLC or having to pay REAL CASH for the privilege of gambling to get a weapon skin expensive enough to help off-set the hatchet job that was their weapon rebalance; then go ahead and but this game.

If you would prefer to keep your money and just that much more of your self-respect, don't give Payday 2 or Overkill a single cent or another second of your precious time.

So to recap: Overkill is a bunch of greedy, manipulative liars. Payday 2 used to be a great game. I'm uninstalling because they've ruined the game and poisoned any good will or trust that they had with the community at large. If you have any other questions about why I'm so annoyed, check out the forums in the community hub (the button's right there across from the title.) Something to the tune of a few thousand angry fans have said everything I could hundreds of times over.

I would NOT recommend this game to anyone, least of all to a friend. Unless of course I no longer wanted to be friends with them.

Any company which **** its community this hard deserves every negative review possible.

The game was good, Overkill seemed like the only company that cared, then DLC after DLC- which for most games would be too much but for Payday 2 we saw as reasonable for some reason.

Now micro-transactions have crushed the spirit of those who still remained committed to the game.

I thought of Overkill on the same level as developers I could trust like Vlambeer, Tripwire Interactive and Edmund McMillen and suffice to say I was dead wrong. Overkill once was a respectable company, but they have progressively been pushing their game without rest in the wrong direction for an unbelievable amount of time and it's reached a point of no return for both me and many others as clearly shown with the sudden spike of negativity.
They have lied to, exploited and disrespected their die-hard fan base in the pursuit of petty monetary gain under the guise of wanting to "stay independent". I've never seen a small team need the amount of revenue that they seem to claim they're in desperate need of. Other developers, some of which mentioned earlier have made excellent products, in a smaller team and with FAR less DLC being shoved down the community's throats. Keyword also being excellent, Payday is buggy, on a rather pathetic engine, but it's a niche game that fills a role most games can't for people, so it's easy to look pass. They also do update often, but also introducing more problems that either never get fixed or are addressed in a very untimely manner. However, to sell this low quality at double the price of games like the Witcher 3? Please.
I'm not here to simply talk about why one company deserves more money than another though, Overkill has time and again ignored the pleas of their fans and basically ran the game as if they had earbuds on the entire time, and it's their right to do what they want, but that doesn't make them any less of horrible people. I can't believe I have held onto their wretched business practices for this long and I could want nothing more than for them to receive the backlash they so rightfully deserve.
When you're so outraged at a developer you've been following for nearly half a decade that you feel the need to make an account on metacritic to voice your disgust, you know they've sullied their once decent reputation. I hope they become an example for what NOT to do to your community for future game developers.
There's more I could probably address and this is not the best worded review, but there are many reliable sources out there that properly display the atrocity that is Overkill, thank you for reading.

    @Overkill,

In the coming days you will receive a lot of hate from your community. And that is completely understandable since you muddied our game with your pay-2-win ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. See, I personally don't care about microtransactions in a game. It adds a new way for developers to earn the money they need to continue developing the game that I play. But the microtransactions can't be allowed to offer any mechanical differences or you will get a game that is pay-2-win. Even if the changes are completely negligible, this will still start you on a road where eventually they won't be negligible anymore.

A lot of people are probably wondering why you would even do this, it's not like it's that hard to foresee how this would go. Unfortunately, the truth probably is that you did foresee this would happen, and you simply just don't care. And why would you? What do you have to lose at this point time? Most of us have already paid for the game and all the DLCs, and it's not like we're going to buy them twice. So you've realized that you have milked most of us for all that you can, and now it's time to add microtransactions so you can milk the rest of your fanbase for whatever is left before you put down this old cow and start cultivating your next cow.

But what you probably can't see is that someone has to feed your cows, and that is us. But now everyone effing hates your guts. So from now on all your cows will be sick, because we will only feed them with poisoned food. And that's your fault! You ruined this community, and now you have to live with it. You might get more milk, but the taste it leaves in your mouths will be stale and sour. Because every time you go to milk your cow you will see all these hateful posts and that will really hurt your feelings. I know it will, because I'm a developer too. And I know how much it hurts when people criticize your work, and I can only imagine how much it must hurt when people show outright hate towards you and your game.

I really hope you take this to heart and decide to try and heal this community. You probably won't ever be able to completely heal the wounds you caused, but you might still be able to make sure it scars nicely. Please don't hang us out to bleed, or you will completely kill this community and your fanbase.

Until you fix this I will of course leave a negative review and advise everyone to stay the hell away from your toxic business. But I hope to be able to change this to a positive review again some time in the near future, because this game was truly great, and one of my absolute favorite games.

TL;DR: The developers has introduced a Pay-2-Win system into this otherwise (former) great game (something they promised multiple times would NEVER EVER happen), and will probably soon abandon it completely in favor of their next cow to be milked. For now I'd advise everyone to stay the hell away from this game, and stay the hell away from Overkill and Starbreeze Studios, because they evidently don't care about their community and if you support people like that you will only be disappointed.

Then they provided group activities with offer of rewards. However you had to spend real money called micro transactions to use them. That is not a reward but a bill or invoice.

They also nerfed my guns practically forcing people to give them money.

I appreciate the need to make money but don't lie and don't milk the fans for everything you can.

If Crimewave safes and drills were 100% free, dropped every match, this would still be bad, because the safes are not smart loot. Game is now pay to play, pay to dlc, and pay to win.

Don't give those greedy f**ckers any more money. They're milking everything they can out of this game before the player base leaves due to them treating us horribly. "There will be no micro-transactions in PAYDAY 2." Right. So i guess this game should now be called Pay2Day. Since all you do in this game is pay.

Never lie to your customers, hopefully it never pays off. But just in case you get away with it here is my 2 cents, This game is half finished on basically all platforms its been released on with a clear focus on rather making DLC than fixing it, and finally going back on their word. You're welcome Overkill, enjoy my meta vote.

Developers choose the worst possible way to earn money on this game. They don't want to make a good quality content, they just want a cow that can be easily milked.

Long ago the developer Almir Listo literally said the following "We've made it clear that Payday 2 will have no microtransactions whatsoever (shame on you if you thought otherwise!)" A month later another developer David Goldfarb responded in an even more blunt way "No. No. God, I hope not. Never. No." Two years later they added microtransactions. Even if you don't agree this ruins the game, how can you take the word of the development team seriously if they are straight up willing to ignore their gaming community and go back on everything they said. This on top of almost 100 dollars in DLC and a currently full priced game is inexcusable. If you are reading this and you also feel this is completely unfair, I urge you to stand with us in rating this down to the level it deserves for taking our money for years then demanding more. They flat out lied to us, the people who decide if they make enough money to eat. They should rightfully understand that ignoring us is not the option they should take. Expand

Did I mention more bugs are "released" on day 6 including SWAT turret van crashing the game

At this current moment Payday 2 introduced Micro-transactions for an already paid game with numerous paid DLC packs in their annual Crimefest (a celebration that the developers promised only would add FREE content as a reward for its community) on Day 1 of the Celebration. The only means as of now, to get that added content (paid weapon skins with stats) was paying real money. Making it become something like Pay-to-Win.

Should it become obtainable with ingame means, whether through unused offshore money (the ingame currency) or through the already implemented reward card system (for completing a heist). I presume the community would probably cease the hostilities towards Almir and his Crew and resume to 'normal'.

I like playing the game though (it's a masterpiece aside from this current mess, I own ALL DLC - including Limited ones) and would do so again if they change the P2W scheme and appeal the community, but not like this.. It's no fun now.. :-(

Also, I do not agree with the current changes (added micro transactions) I still love how it used to be, and I don't wish to see it Burn and Completely die out. I love playing Payday 2.. But not the Micro transactions..

EDIT: Drills just became an infamous card drop with Day 6 of Crimefest, it's an improvement, but still waiting if OVERKILL can go one better, my rage is tempered for now, but I remain cautious.. You get the thumbs up back for now, because it is a step in the right direction, but let's see how it ends..

What now must follow is the complete removal of the steammarket integration and OVERKILL's public apologies.. But let's see if that will happen.. No high hopes though

The developer for this game broke promises they made early on regarding their business model, specifically that microtransactions within the game (for items, weapons, unlockers, et cetera) would never be a part of the game. The Crimefest update goes against the original promise and what the community values and appreciates the game to be.

A microtransaction system that thoughtfully adds that my weapons can once again be made useful again if I pay Overkill more money for separate skins on separate guns to regain the same prior usefulness which has been recently removed.

Buy skins to return the gun back to a semi-functional state. Use vanilla guns and good luck hitting the ground. Thanks Overkill. Because 28+ DLC packs at 6 Euros a pop wasn't enough for you.
The final nail in this mouldering coffin is that the core developers promised us a few years ago that microtransactions would never be added.

It started out with the praise of fans and reviewers alike as one of the most innovative multiplayer games in recent years. This was proof that a small studio could create something that could change the gaming landscape. So many games have tried to recreate the same magic and have failed to do so.

However, all good things must come to an end. Starbreeze Studios AB has proven it is entirely possible to take a game that is a huge monetary success and absolutely drive it into the ground. With the introduction of micro-transactions as a "thank you" for all of the success, the community as a whole is understandably upset and appalled. That is probably the nicest way one could put it.

I've seen a lot of outrage over shortsighted decisions in the gaming community just within the last ten years alone and quite frankly this is one of the most unanimous attempts at communicating with a developer I have seen in quite some time. It is clear: The community is not OK with the direction that the franchise is taking and they are seeing that Starbreeze quite literally sees them as money farms rather than as their long-term fans.

The micro-transactions which were implemented allow for players willing to spend money to get skins for their guns which would give them a competitive advantage over players that had already spent over $200 on the game and were not wanting to spend more on micro-transactions which do not even add any additional gameplay or depth element to the game. To put things bluntly: The micro-transactions didn't improve the game in any way, shape, or form. Instead, they took away from some of the difficulty of the game which admittingly was rather shallow to begin with.

There has been absolutely zero communication from Starbreeze Studios AB or by Overkill in regards to these decisions and actually taking the input provided by the community. The fact that in 48 hours there was no official statement on it is quite disgusting. We are nearly a week separated from the start of the introduction of the micro-transactional elements and neither the developers nor Starbreeze has taken even a single step towards reconciliation with their fans.

It has become rather obvious that the issue is greed. There are a large number of fans which speculate that Starbreeze is merely trying to extract as much money off of the franchise so they can fuel a huge shift towards a mobile market where there is less of a need to offer a solid gaming experience and more weight is placed on making a large number of smaller transactions to get those playing the games to invest money before they can even tell whether they are going to like the game.

Payday 2 has been harmed during this whole process. At this point enough players have paid for the micro-transactions to make undoing the damage impossible; they are already implemented and players already have them. Taking them away could open up legal complications from those which have spent money regardless of whether it was to see just how broken the micro-transactions are or to actually get ahead in the game. It has become clear that neither Starbreeze Studios AB or Overkill have any interest in fixing the issue or reconciling with their fans. The game is going to dwindle in the number of players actively playing it and the gameplay is already stale at this point since missions will become painfully simple with higher enough (or in some cases low enough) stats.

If you kick players with skins just because they paid for them, you can kick me for buying the DLC.

The game is extremely fun if you have friends who are about as experienced as you are. Playing with new players can be a pain, since you don't remember to warn them about everything and heists usually end up being restarted.

Gameplay is awesome and the game has relatively few bugs, though some bugs are extremely annoying. Cloakers keep knocking you out from inside a rock or behind a wall for example.

This game used to be good, overkill ruined the game with the most recent update adding microtransactions. Shame on you overkill. I regret paying as much as I have for the DLC in this game.

    Overkill lie.

Upon release PAYDAY 2 had potential. Unfortunately OverkillStudios ran it into the ground with the newest content released for Crimefest 2015. We were promised free rewards for our hard work that we put into completing varied challenges. We were given microtransactions, that's not free content Overkill...
Dont buy this game, you'll only end up regretting it.

A once great game that fell victim to tons of paid DLC that adds some basic things that should have been in in the first place and others adding new heists which for the most part are good and then there are heists like Alesso. Still a find game and then micro transactions come out which would be find if they did not boost the stats of the guns so now you have to pay to get skins so youA once great game that fell victim to tons of paid DLC that adds some basic things that should have been in in the first place and others adding new heists which for the most part are good and then there are heists like Alesso. Look, a lot of us got over the fact that Overkill decided to spam mediocre DLC every couple of weeks, but micro-transactions? Screw you, not only did you promise from the start that there will never have micro-transactions. Disgusting, absolutely disgusting.

I'm not even angry with Overkill anymore, I'm just straight up disappointied.

"We've made it clear that PAYDAY 2 will have no micro-transactions whatsoever (shame on you if you thought otherwise!)"

Let me know how that works out

Oh well... Almost 900 hours played since 2013. Now look at my vote for this game.

    Wanna know why?

    Crimefest II
    Day 1
Microtransactions (and a really **** untested weapon rebalance)

    Says it all.

From a company that prided itself for listening to their community to a publisher-enslaved, lying money-grabbing whore that still claims it's indie.

The developer promised NO MICRO-TRANSACTIONS !!!!!!!!
What they do? They add micro-transactions for content that gives you stats and turning it in a pay to win game. And this was released during an event that was suppose to release free stuff.
I'm done with Payday 2 and it's community.

progression from an amazing coop shooter to a pay2content
in the beginning free and paid dlc were balanced now its garbage
with the original game itself you dont have access to like 75 % of the weapons ? with some of them being game changing (he shotguns, sniper etc...)

Bunch of liars at Ovk, i rather buy the next COD than playing this one more time, atleast Activion does not lie to the customers.

Insted of doing a real statment the mods on the hub of the game just lock and delete threads againt's Ovk, this gaming industry makes me puke.

Game was, and still is amazing at its core. But overkill went greedy and screwed the community.
Now all i can say is pay2win, microtransaction and fee2pay.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.

Payday 2 is an excellent co-op shooter - a vast improvement over the first one. [Sept 2013]

A unique and captivating multiplayer experience that rewards team work over personal glory. But make sure you bring friends for the true experience. [Nov 2013, p.62]
