-Content that you can miss forever if you weren't around at the right time to get it
-Tons of overpriced DLC that you will have to buy to be on an even playing field
-Achievements requiring that you own DLC
-Achievements that can only be unlocked during Halloween
-Content that requires you to own other games you might not want on Steam
-Microtransactions, when it was promised that there would be none
-A completely broken enemy that one-hit kills you and can move through walls or do pretty much anything else it pleases, that still hasn't been fixed after years

Essentially the game has just become a big money grab.

When I got this game it was great..... for 5 hours. The game itself is nothing without the $60 worth of DLC they striped from the base game. To make matters worse they have microtransactions.

I can only say that I am incredibly disappointed.

Overkill have failed to deliver features advertised before launch.
    Overkill lied about microtransactions.

    That's it, Overkill. I'm out.

i like this game and it has good gameplay, but gets boring pretty fast because it is repetitive. The developers keeps lying and literally told most of the veteran players that its too bad that they lied to us and we can deal with it or just not play. The developers promised no micro-transactions. Said shame on us for even thinking it!
Then they added micro-transactions. But not just that! The micro-transactions weren't just for cosmetics, oh no... they gave you stat boosts on your weapons. Oh, and they nerfed all other weapons so you have to pay.

I hope that greedy pig Almir gets hit by a bus.

2 years of broken promises, unfixed bugs, and a basic inability to care about the community means that this game joins the ranks of so many other games with toxic developers. Time after time we have been challenged to do a lot of things for free content, only to find that free content to be Bug Fixes and Quality of Life updates. If that wasn't enough, for an ONLINE MULTIPLAYER game, the desync is horrible, and the developers refuse to acknowledge it even after having the game out for two years.

What they do acknowledge on the other hand, is that you have to pay for the base game, pay on average $5 dollars for every one of their 27 DLCs, as well as paying a micro-transaction fee for an RNG change to get a skin so that you can boost guns that have been nerfed SPECIFICALLY to fit the micro-transactions.

Even if you buy the game and the DLCs at discount, you're still talking about $100 for a bug-filled, money grubbing game, on a completely antiquated engine (about 10 years old), Not only that, but the developers have shown time and time again their inability to connect to the players, or even reality hiding behind such excuses as "The people who complain are a vocal minority" (Because minorities don't matter, right?) and "If you really cared about the game, you'd forget your buggy console version that you bought and buy it again on the PC".

With the toxic developer, the tripple-dipping of base game fee, DLC and microtransactions, this is a game you should absolutely stay away from. You might not think it when you first get it, but at some point you'll be so tired of being lied to, that you'll be thinking "I wish I never bought this crap".

    Stay Away.

This game was amazing but they rebalanced it to nerf all the free guns. Then they released paid skins to fix the nerf they just did. The best part is that when the game was launched the developers promised there would be no micro transactions and that's just what they added.

On this date though, an update was released that just destroyed one of the things that was so great about it. Payday 2 used to be a game with DLC. No pay to win. It took a while to get to the top and unlock all the weapons and modifications. This was one of those games that made you feel like you had accomplished something. Then 'Crimefest 2015' happened.

With the last update the game was linked to the Steam inventory and now it is possible to buy 'drills' for 'safes' which can drop different 'quality' weapon skins. On october 15 this game went from a great game to what CS:GO is or what Team Fortress 2 has become with the stupid hats. The microtransactions used to unlock these 'unique weapon skins' are a blunt way of squeezing out the last pennies out of a community that was truely loyal to the game and developers. And we hate them for that.

There are many great Steam forum posts describing how the community feels about this. For now, you may notice that the game score on Steam, Metacritic and other sources has taken a free fall. This shows how dedicated the community is to preserving all what made this game fantastic. And it shows how repulsive we find the idea of this great game turning into a marketplace for my little pony weapon skins that add 20 accuracy to your AK-47.

    This is our response.

Would have recommended this game heartily in the past. Not any more. Game's been changed into an enormous fee-2-pay game, with a hefty asking price, an enormous amount of DLC, on top of one of the most annoying implementations of microtransactions, a pay-to-win one at that. Avoid.

Overall, it was a very fun game to play with friends, but we did have waves of DLCs come in to help the developers earn money. Some are skeptical but I was fine with the DLCs. But, now, after a promise stating they would never introduce microtransactions, they added a safe+drill system on the first day of the annual Crimefest. The annual Crimefest is something they set goals for the community to meet, and reward us with free content as a thank you. Instead we got microtransactions where we can buy drills for $2.49 to open up safes we may get in game for weapon skins. Now some weapon skins may even have a stat boost. They also did a sudden weapon rebalance, stating it is to promote variety in weapons, but instead it made ARs and shotguns unusable and pistols overpowered. The worst part is, that some have did some theorycrafting and found that many of the rebalanced weapons require a rather small boost of a certain stat to be more viable. And somehow, this few points of a certain stat many weapons need are exactly the stat the payed weapon skins can give.

The corporate decision to turn this great game into a money cow to milk short-term for their company is something that is ruining the game. I do not recommend this game anymore, but have to say it used to be a great game with amazing potential.

With Overkill's most recent offense during Crimefest 2015, there was not even a major effort toward a roundabout attempt to cover their tracks with a technicality. They have lied through their teeth.

A symbiotic relationship between a community and developer is possible. A community can provide response, the developer can release content -free or paid- that is based on the community’s interest, and both sides are satisfied. However, it is insulting to think Overkill believes they can continue to get away with such malpractice like they have while maintaining a happy and satisfied community.

This is exactly the problem; they do not care about your satisfaction, reader. They have done nothing to prove otherwise.

A reward system is ineffectual when a developer doesn’t care to meet the community halfway.

Free content given amounts to nothing when its developer’s motives lie at odds with a community’s general interest.

Promises of any type of future are meaningless when promises of the past are broken.

As a final note, I am addressing those responsible for these recent actions when I say: I believe your “free to pay” mentality is toxic. E.g., by participating in community challenges, we as a community are now “free” to “pay” for game affecting upgrades. I wish to see this game succeed, and its community flourish in a healthy way. Because of that, I am also willing to listen to reason. However, you have made it difficult for me to find a single positive aspect of these newest updates. Developers and their communities are one single system. Nevertheless, Overkill's outlook is unsustainable for a healthy developer/community relationship, but you already know this. If you don't understand what I'm implying, I will put it bluntly. You, as a company, are killing yourselves.

Alas, the game is ruined by the development team making some very poor marketing decisions.

To begin with, there is an excessive amount of DLC for the game, with almost every update only adding new content in the form of DLC. In addition, weapon balance has been all but ruined, and lastly the game has been given an (unoriginal) micro-transaction system ripped straight from CS:GO in almost every aspect. The micro-transactions wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for the fact that they have stat boosts.

In about 6 months time, I bet you won't even be able to unlock weapon slots for in-game money, that will be a micro-transaction. And re-spawning when in custody? Yeah, if you pay $0.99 USD you can re-spawn instantly.

I'm very happy that the player base has grown but it wont be long until they realize that the new weapon balance nerfs weapons that were already weak and overpowers weapons like pistols.

A good example would be the long sword from the Chivalry Gage DLC VS the Katana from the Yakuza DLC, they both now have the same status except the long sword has a 4 sec charge up and the katana has a 3 sec charge up but the katana swings like mad were the long sword takes a whole second to swing making the long sword utterly useless and now is only used when getting an achievement, after that it may as well be a paper weight.

If you thought of doing stealth heists with other player on some maps forget it, there's still bugs up the @$$ so your better off solo stealthing negating any reason to play online. And the desync and net-code hasn't improved at all, worst you wont know how bad your connection is with the host because they couldn't be bothered to add a ping display, and when it is bad enemies will phase through walls and shot at you when their either not around the corner or shot at you through the walls when they haven't pulled themselves into view through a window all the way making death-wish impossible for anyone using an armor build.

Seriously though, I loved this game. It was fairly good, even with all the unnecessary DLC. Even with this, Overkill was a trusted developer, and "cared about the community's thoughts". The thought of even adding a transaction system to a game that costs $20, and has over 26 different DLC's to pick up that are not included. The safe idea is straight out of CS:GO and TF2, but at least in those games the loot found in those crates doesn't add special stats or buffs to weapons. The worst part about it is that the Developers lied to us about their being microtransactions, even going as far as saying "shame on you if you thought so" when asked if microtransactions would be in the game.

I would have recommended this game on any day to friends, not after 10/15/15 though.

Lots of choices in terms of cosmetics and of weaponry. Also a skill system that makes things very unique in terms of team play.

    So... the bad review?
For a game that has a straight up cost out of the gate, then five times that cost in terms of DLC just to make it feel like a full game and help the developers behind the game...
It's... literally, on the birthday of Payday 2, that Overkill has taken a gift box, and relieved themselves inside of it, then pushed it over to you with warm loving care. With the implementation of micro transaction and features that no one ever wanted in this game.

This -was- once a game I was begging Dad to play with me, and bought two copies to get friends in on... but now my two friends are turning away from playing the game, just as they were warming up to it a bit.

"Crimefest" = A special event celebrating the birthday of payday. It's also kinda festival for the community of the game, coupled with some "tasks" that unlock rewards.

Nice thing you might think... but it isnt.

Crimfest 2014 ended with the "special super reward", obtained by the community for reaching the highest declared groupsize, results in ...*tension* ... *drums* ... THE RELEASE OF JOHN WICK! A promotional character. Yes. Really. That bad. Couldnt have thought they might make a greater marketing mistake anytime anymore.

    I was wrong.

Crimefest 2015! Releasing microtransactions at the first day as a reward... a r-e-w-a-r-d. I mean... dont they have some kind of marketing people? This is such a ridiculous dumb timing that i'm still hoping it is a joke. Ridiculous! This isn't something like "kicking the community in the balls"! This is more like The Flash grabs Chuck Norris, gets to highest speed ands lets Chuck kick the community in the balls! all the way shouting "overkill salutes you". Combine it with the trailer, where Vlad makes a greedy gesture while muttering about getting rich "with safes" and it leaves more then a bad taste in the mouth. This is really an elite form of dumbness for a company. After the release, they even changed the FAQ of the event because it simply showed how they lied.

Update: I wasn't able to post my review after i wrote it and went to vacation over the rest of crimefest. After getting back i read the interview with Almir Listo at reddit. After Biowares demise, another company that was close to their playerbase went insane.

You get it? Stay away from Paday 2 and Overkill Software in general. Just google em and you catch there lies.

They deserve to crash and burn, especially after they had the nerves and hypocrisy of defending something they promised won't happen.
I hope they bankrupt, enough crooks in this business.

Utter Toilet, the game itself is half decent but has no longevity and should have included a COPS mode or a multiplayer mode where players can play cops or robbers rather than just adding in crappy microtransactions when they said there wouldn't be.

What else is to be said that HASN'T been said. I've been playing this game for quite a while now, and for it to completely destroy the games balancing through these new updates is really crushing and it has taken the from the game. I'm giving it a flat zero because any new players stand NO chance now (mind you, they didn't that much before).

Tried it to see what all the fuss was all about and loved it. Very funny gameplay and the microtransactions doesn´t bother me. I´ll simply ignore them and keep playing.

Spoiler alert, dev will add microtransactions when they overextend themselves in future ventures. I have spent 2500 hours on this game, and loved it. Then the dlc became more about frequent, and less about content. Then micros were introduced. You buy an ugly, stat boosting skin for half the price of a dlc (which usually comes with several weapons, masks, mods, etc). This was the final straw for me. I wont spend another dime on this game, and urge newcomers to run away. The companys only concern is your money, not quality or content. Expand

Do not buy this game. The developer "Overkill" has lied to the community about micro-transactions , ignored pleas to fix bugs in the game since beta and claim to be "independent" while having a publisher back them up.

Was fun at first. Then started milking community with poor quality DLC's then want to milk the community with micro transactions. The reason for MT is for better content but have continually released poor content.

They made promises which they didn't keep.
They refuse to make good on those promises after the fact.
They attempted to siphon money out of their fans to support their bad business decisions.
They continued to lie/attempt pr **** to justify their greed.
They do not deserve your money/support.

Scumbag developers, caught the EA bug.

Developer promised no microtransactions and betrayed the community. Just one of a string of events that caused me to stop playing. Save your time for a dev that appreciates you.

You need to OWN the wep to use the goddamn skin, and if you don't get ready to pay more for the **** DLC for it. It is an abomination of an update, which not only did it self once, but twice downloaded into my HDD. Overkill needs to heed this call from its fans, or prepare it self for the greatest revolution since King Louie the Fourteenth. Expand

Developer got greedy, lied to the entire community. Don't get me wrong it is a fun game to play with your friends, but if gamers keep allowing this shoddy business practice to happen we will never see change. Stop supporting bad business. PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.

A unique and captivating multiplayer experience that rewards team work over personal glory. But make sure you bring friends for the true experience. [Nov 2013, p.62]
