Overkill has wrecked the game with the so called Black Market update, it is an point of no return - the big gaming presses knows about their blatant lies.

If you love greedy devs and overprices games, why not, after all ...
Well no, let's be honest, it used to be fun. I mean, the first 3 DLCs were good. Then we got 2 years of **** wich we all paid for because ovk had our trust.
And what did we got ?

So after all the DLCs and after saying that they will never include microtransactions, now here they are, just trying to get all the money from the players. Too bad...

It was an amazing game until they added microtransactions. Microtransactions that they promised multiple times they wouldn't add. It doesn't help that they added these microtransactions during crimefest, an event that rewards the community for in-game work with "free" DLC.

Developers are untrustworthy and the entire game is just a big money jump. The game is super expensive to play since all of the good heists are DLC and all the good weapons/mods are in the DLC as well.

    Would never recommend/10.

    Why 0?
Because that's the score the game deserves if you take into account the ammount of money it costs.

This game was great up until they decided to add weapon skins ala CS:GO. That'd be all fine and dandy on its own, if not for the fact that said weapon skins provide stat boosts to your guns, and cost real life moneydollars to get.

Sadly this used to be a really good game. However with the recent course the developers have chosen this certainly is not a good game anymore. The game has gone from a fun experience with quite a lot of dlc to choose from to a game that has become pure pay2win. The microtransactions debacle has personally made me quit and uninstall this game.

The developers have once more made it cear that they don't care about their player base. They promised there would never be microtransactions, and now they suddenly introduced them as a "free reward" for a community event. Along with the disappearance of a quarter of a million in prizes for last years paydaycon which the community still has no clue where it went. I loved payday and on release despite the heists lacked the same intense driven feel as the original I still loved payday 2 but after a while not only did the quality of updates in general go down but the avalanche of DLC content was carrying the same level of disappointing effort and no real quality to justify their price point. All in all as the game stands and the continued disregard for player input in favor of a more profit driven dlc fest has created a sadly broken game. Expand

Since then, I have played nearly 200 hours and do not at all regret it. However the dev obviously only cares about money, so I will no longer be playing. The new update completely messed up any sort of balance there was before (weak pistol+skin now better than most powerful rifle). I just hope the mods will one day come to their senses and kill PD:GO.

To make things clear, the game is still very good, but the directions that it has been taking lately is unacceptable. Overkill now treats it as a money printer, and it is time for the community to step up and say enough. These skins aren't even like CS:GO, they massively effect gun usability.

TL;DR: Game is now trash. TF;GO, but much worse. No balance. Dev is a money-grubbing dick.

I have purchased all but the latest DLC, much at full price and including packs of weapons I have never used, in support of the developers and the product that has brought me more hours of enjoyment than any item in my library. I have enthusiastically recommended this game countless times to friends and acquaintances, inspiring more than a few purchases. In my professional career, I have pointed to the lack of microtransaction content as a functional business model that respects its audience while providing a constant stream of new gameplay options.

As of Oct. 15, 2015, I can no longer recommend Payday 2. In the weeks leading up to that date, the developers of the game hosted a series of challenges that, when completed, would unlock new updates that would be free to all owners of the product. On that date, the first of a ten day "Crimefest", the feature revealed to have been unlocked was... microtransactions.

After completing a mission in the game, the player has always been awarded with a virtual card that is flipped over to reveal a new modification for a weapon, a cosmetic mask, and other unlocks. With the new "free" update, this reward can be replaced with a "safe" object. The safe contains a weapon skin of varying rarity as well as the possibility of unique weapon modifications. Very rarely, these weapon skins can add a statistics boost to the weapon when applied. These safes can be opened with a special "drill" object. The catch is the drill can ONLY be obtained by payment of $2.50 (and up) on the Steam Marketplace. There is NO method of opening a safe outside of this financial transaction.

As a long time supporter, this is a betrayal too harsh to bear. The game has been uninstalled and I will not be playing, purchasing, or recommending products by OVERKILL or Starbreeze Studios from this date forward. They have lost this once loyal customer and many others with the addition of this "feature".

    TL;DR - Pay-for product contains microtransactions for potentially non-cosmetic rewards - 0/10

Ever since Diamond was first out I smelled something. Packs were getting less value for money, and tend to be less earnest. More quantity less quality. The Yakuza Pack was the first that only even comes with a character and 2 weapons with no heists at all. I was thinking Overkill was at an all time low there, but since they've said they have more than 20 months to support I thought they'll pick it up.

    How mistaken I was.

The only thing good about the black market update was it was there first ever attempt to overhaul a majority of weapons in this game, DLC and non-DLC included. But that's about it. Weapons went horribly overpowered, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The weapon skins, resembling that of the CSGO system unsettlingly, is hidden inside safes that you get from card drops. And the drill that takes to open the safes you got costs money. Real money. Worst of all, skins modifies weapon stats. So yes, this game is P2W now. And to think that the base game cost money too? This screams cash grab for any new player.

This is not healthy for the community. What we'll be seeing is overpriced +stats skins selling on Steam trade and scams everywhere in no time. Veteran players who saw the better of this game *will* leave and that drains the playerbase out of quality.

This game was good. Back when Overkill called themselves indie, they deserved it. They were engaging, ambitious, focused, and caring. Now, half of the contents is behind a paywall and if it wasn't enough you got P2W elements to even further the disparity. I will not be playing this game anymore until they attempt to remedy this situation. That is, to eliminate P2W in any way, shape or form. Almir would need to be explicit about this and not go around in circles again. This is serious.

I will be withdrawing my subscription from the steam community, and be posting the same review over there. Just so more of you know what's up. Until then, wish you luck Overkill.

However, the developers slowly pulled one of the worst business practices ever, worse than most of EA's stuff, instead of going the good guy route. The game could've been fantastic, but instead, the developers (OVERKILL) decided to release countless DLCs for the game. This was okay at first, because the paid DLCs were mixed in with a bunch of free ones. But then, OVERKILL decided they should be greedy, and stopped releasing free DLCs for the most part. Then, there was a celebration to PAYDAY's success, called "Crimefest". Crimefest was a time where the community reached goals (users playing at one time etc.) in exchange for rewards in-game when Crimefest launched. OVERKILL stated on multiple occasions that everything in Crimefest was going to be free. However, on the first day of Crimefest (Oct. 15, 2015) the game came out with two new features. The first one was a huge weapon re-balance that really messed up the game, and made it way MORE un-balanced. But, the second thing was MICRO-TRANSACTIONS. After the developers said it was going to be free. So, the micro-transactions themselves make the game Pay To Win, because the things themselves are skins that offer weapon stat boosts. This ruins any trust the community had with OVERKILL, and is downright False Advertising, which is illegal in most places (except America of course). So no, don't get this game unless you want to be openly lied to, and get no response when almost the whole community including you confront the devs for lying.

Thank you OVERKILL, you just gave me 21 GB of storage on my SSD back.

Firstly, I'd like to say that I've never been motivated to post a review of a game before. But never before have the discussion threads been so overwhelmingly censored, to the point where the threads are now mostly positive. If you are new to Payday2, please read the reviews but don't trust anything under the control of the developers (such as the main forum boards).

    Now: a review of Payday2.
I was previously tempted to write a review, but there is no "sort of" recommend function in steam, however recent developments have firmly pushed me off the fence regarding this game. I would not recommend that anyone buy this game unless they are young, clueless and with too much pocket money, and only then because it will mean they're less likely to spend it on crack.
The base game comprises of a limited weapon set and a few heists, with very few weapon mods. You'll have to join "the community group" for a few freebies, but even then you will have to do without grenades, machine guns, sniper rifles, RPGs, miniguns, bows, thrown weapons, any sort of incendiary, etc, etc, etc.
Roughly 1/3 of the weapons are available to purchase without DLC.
And this is where the game shows its colours; There are around 30 DLC packs for you to enjoy, assuming that you have the cash, from £1 for a music track to £5 or so for anything with a new weapon or heist. These DLC have been enjoying a "power creep" for the last couple of years, apparently, to a point where a non-dlc player is at a very clear disadvantage.
Combine this with new enemies who are extra-vulnerable to the special DLC weapons and a clear pattern starts to emerge, whereby pay-to-play is becoming pay-more-to-win.
All of which I could ignore simply by avoiding playing with minigun-wielding 10 year olds. But the things I can't ignore are still there regardless of whether I play solo or online, most notably the bugs & poor netcode. There are bugs from the first release of the game which have not been fixed in two years. There are promised features which have not been delivered for two years. And yet the devs still find time to release 1 DLC pack per month.
The most recent development (apart from the aforementioned forum censorship) is the introduction of microtransactions to gain stat boosts for weapons. This in a game that's not free-to-play, and which requires 2 or 3 different DLCs to fully upgrade even the most basic weapon, and which has 30 DLCs. Not acceptable, imho.

The biggest problem here is that once you've bought the game, you'll probably like most of the gameplay. It's far from perfect, but enjoyable. I've had some fun with it. What ruins the experience is the cash-hungry, rip-off way that the devs are "supporting" the game. And if you like the game, you'll be tempted to start spending more cash . . . . . just DON'T. Don't start, 'cos you'll end up disappointed like so many others. if the £100+ price tag for the completed game doesn't put you off, all the extra microtransactions will. Or perhaps the constant power-creep of the DLCs will get to you. Or maybe being lied to by the devs will get to you. Or maybe having your comments censored will get to you. Or maybe being sniped through a floor, or being kicked through a wall will get to you. Or being disconnected from a game on day 3 of a 3-day heist will. Or the incredible lag (even between PCs on a LAN). And you'll be £100 poorer.

With decent bugfixes, and "developer support" that does not make me feel like I'm bending over crying "Take me! Take me!" while I throw cash into an incinerator, I could recommend this game. But not as the game is today.

The developers of the game Payday 2, have been notorious for not focusing on what is really needed for the game to be balanced. Despite this the community of this game have given alot to overkill and stuck with them. The community have made the game a great place to be, since they all chipped in to help make the game better, via information to players, mods that made huds and other things more transparent. But even though the community have done quite alot, the developers screwed over their customers and fans. They held an event called Crimefest, where reaching certain goals content would be unlocked for the players for free. However the first crimefest goals were to make people buy their DLC and different goals where how many people bought their DLC. The community made sure they reached their endgoal, making overkill a ton of money. The second crimefest goals where making people join their community, advertising the game for them.
One of the rewards were that micro transactions that affect gameplay being implemented into the game.
So people buying their game, buying their DLC, advertising for them are rewarded with microtransactions. That is not a rewards, that is being scammed and screwed over.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.

A unique and captivating multiplayer experience that rewards team work over personal glory. But make sure you bring friends for the true experience. [Nov 2013, p.62]
