A great co-op game. The main downside in the game is the inability to make more than one character. I would like to have choice of being able to play a ghost in some maps and a techforcer in others but that is not a realistic option here without having a 2nd steam account with a 2nd copy of the game. Another complaint is that the game is basically unplayable solo because the AI teammates don't do anything but shoot enemies and revive you if you're downed. They can't fix drills, carry loot bags, etc. Any mission that requires returning multiple bags to an escape vehicle becomes tedious if not impossible. Yes, it's a co-op game, but I would like the ability to try out missions solo before I jump in with a group of people where everyone knows what they're doing but me. Expand

Payday 2 is a very nice sequel to payday: the heist.
The co-op elements of the game actually feel better this time and the amount of new maps (also because of updates and patches) is much better, even though the mission objectives feel a lot alike.
For me, the gun mechanic feels very well done and the amount of guns in this game is actually pretty well done. Just like the new weapon mods

There's the new stealth element that actually gives you the option to not mindlessly fight hordes of cops.
The only big problem I have with the game is the AI. Not just your AI teammates, but also the enemies feel really sloppy at times.
Some examples include: bulldozers going trough walls, teammates not reviving me at all and stop moving once I'm downed, and many more situations like these.
I'd give this game a 7/10 before all the updates.
    Right now, it's a 8/10.
    Well worth your money.

This game is a boredom killer. You have friends but you have nothing to do? Play Payday 2. The flaws in this game can be easily ignored.

In short, if you don't wanna rob a bank, play this. It's legal and playable.

This time you can access heists through a dynamic map displaying heists (which are called contracts and can span from one to three days) alongside their difficulty levels and who is playing them. New contracts (which are not in play by anyone else) pop up all the time and there are many different contracts to choose from (around ten maybe more at the time of writing). The higher the difficulty of a heist, the higher the XP and cash gain. Each difficulty level introduces new enemy type(s). There are a huge amount of different masks to choose from, over fifty, which can be customized with colours and more which are sometimes gained after heists I'll get to that later. The contracts in the game contain bank-robbing, jewelry-robbing, mall-destroying, meth-cooking, art-stealing, bag-hauling and more, alongside controlling civilians and, of course, shooting guys with guns. If you're into a game having a range of weapons, rejoice there is a mighty range of primary and secondary weapons un-lockable through your 'reputation' level and then bought with cash. Just like there are many weapons, there are many attachments for them.
One of the biggest features in PAYDAY 2 is the skill tree system with four different trees: Mastermind, Enforcer, Technician, and Ghost. Masterminds have a med kit and can take control of a situation, allowing you to make guards cuff themselves, civilians help you up and people to do as you say. Enforcers have an ammo bag and are the 'big guns' of your squad, being able to carry bags quicker, deal more damage and have more health. Technicians have trip mines and sentry guns and can deal with equipment faster and more efficiently. Ghosts have an electronic jamming device and are about speed and agility, being able to sprint in all directions, take much less fall damage and pick locks faster. You don't have to invest yourself in one skill tree you can choose whatever skills you like.
Whenever you complete a contract, you and your crew can each choose a card out of three. They are face-down so you don't know what you're getting. With these cards you can obtain extra cash, weapon attachments, masks, colours, materials and more.
Unfortunately, after a certain amount of time, repeating the same contracts for more cash to buy, well, most things in the game becomes repetitive and shooting wave upon wave of cops becomes monotonous. Luckily, there are different ways to approach heists, there usually being a plan A which involves being stealthy or controlling people without the police getting involved, or plan B which is what usually happens when the alarm is raised and it's shooty-shooty time. The developers also promise more content and so far they have delivered there are occasional free updates with items, masks and heists, but also DLC for those who want it. Another issue is the not-so-great AI. If you are using AI teammates they will do a great job of being a bullet shield and reviving you, but they cannot complete objectives, which can make things difficult. The enemy AI can be odd sometimes, you might find them looking at a wall or being generally idle and soak up your rounds. This is not a common issue though, most of the time you'll be relentlessly rushed, flanked and have your objectives halted by your enemies. The last main issue which becomes apparent later on is that there is a certain level of grinding that must sometimes be done to buy that one thing you wanted, or unlock that skill you've been working towards. This is not a major issue but is sometimes complained about.
Overall, PAYDAY 2 is a brilliant, fresh and exciting co-op shooter that is at its best when played with friends. If you're considering getting this game... do. You almost definitely won't be disappointed.

I'm rating this game without having played the first. If you are a TL;DR person and asking me if I would recommend you the game, I can give you this answer:

I do recommend the game to you, if you happen to be a person who enjoys cooperative multiplayer games online. If you are a player preferring singleplayer games, I cannot recommend you this title. Read below why:

Visuals 9 out of 10 The game looks smooth and the filters it uses can be turned off. Textures are clear and ingame objects look very convincing. The game definitely is a beauty.

Sounds, Soundtrack and Voices 9 out of 10 The voice actors are authentic and fun to listen to. The weapons sound convincing and the electronic soundtrack emphasizes the actions taken by the player. Is the player not discovered yet, so will the music reflect that by playing slow beats and opposed to that the music is fast and upbeat when the police storms into the bank. It even builds up to those moments. For some the soundtrack might be too repetitive, though, as there are relatively few tracks that will be repeated every other mission you play.

Gameplay 7 out of 10 First of all, it's important to note here that Payday 2 is a multiplayer game. It features a singleplayer variation, but make no mistake. The single player mode is barely functional as the cooperative AI for your 3 teampartners is too rudimentary. It's virtually unplayable. Payday 2 is played best with 3 friends of yours that you can rely on. If you don't know other players you will have to bite the bullet and play with random other players. My personal experience here has been very mixed, from egomaniacs who kicked other players for no good reason (such as a low level or wrong equipment chosen) to charitable and friendly players who coordinated via chat and went through the several missions of the game smooth and in short timeframes.

Whether you will meet the former or latter kind of player will depend on your own luck. That aside, the gunplay of the game feels smooth, different weapons and upgrades give enough variety to personalize and choose from and the four different skilltrees are well balanced and diversify characters nicely. With the right people you will definitely have a great time.

One characteristic of this game that might put you off should be mentioned The game features about 30 different missions or even more, however it uses a fraction of that amount as maps for these. This means that in various missions you will be put into the same level with items, entry points, saves and lockers, barricades, player and enemy spawns and other such points of interests shuffled around. While that does change how every mission plays out, some seem to feel that it leads to a lack of diversion and replayability. How you judge that is up to you.

Last but not least, a comment on the difficulty. The game has 4 different difficulties and a "Pro" modifier for each mission. Normal, hard, very hard and overkill. Picking one of these changes the enemy spawns as well as the rewards. Normal spawns ordinary cops and few armored units. Overkill spawns more, tougher and better armed enemies who will soak your ammo clips up like sponges the water. Additionally, you will also face enemies with special traits in the higher difficulty levels, such as "bulldozers" that literally take hundreds of bullets to kill and other such friendly surprises. The difficulty levels in-between feature upgraded cops and fewer of these special enemies. Finally, the pro mode. If you choose to play a pro mission, you will only have one try for all the levels of the mission. If you fail the mission at any point, your mission and its progress will be terminated.

Technical quality 6.5 out of 10 There are few bugs in the game, but when they happen they can be annoying. After playing a while it might happen that you lose connection to a host and your game will crash few minutes afterwards. I've had it happen to me only once after a long 5-hour gaming session, but it should be noted anyway.

Also the shadow maps of the levels seem pose a problem, as they are in a 4096 resolution that cannot be turned down in the options menu. If you don't have a top notch PC, you will need to mod the game in order to fix that and play with acceptable frames. It's possible, but it requires some extra work on your part.

Overall a very satisfying game with minor issues that can detract from the fun.

Playing with randoms is still very fun and all but if you have some friends that would all get together and play, this game makes what I think is one of the greatest CO-OP games out there. Each player can customize accordingly to how you want to tackle the mission, loud and easy or stealthy, but tricky. Being able to stealth a full mission really does feel like an accomplishment and something to be proud of, if you can pull it off. But if you go loud, be sure to bring friends that differ in skill. A technician can easily blast open doors and most safes and can quickly get you inside, and an enforcer can use there Portable saw to quickly break open deposit boxes to grab the loot and run. A ghost can much easier stealth missions, obviously, and a mastermind is just a great thing to be. My decision: Grab some friends you can play with, buy this game.

The maps i personally feel are very good and really in keeping with the genre which is really in a league of its own. Although there are not a massive amount of jobs, they feel right, snatching jewelry and stuffing it in a rucksack while in an intense police standoff feels so exilirating and they have the atmosphere just right.

The map dlc's are good, but my one consern is paying for content like guns without additional maps. that takes no effort in part from the dev team and is aimed at empying your wallet primarily, shame on you.

other than the obvious money grab. the game is really good and you wont be able to stop playing it once it bites you.

Payday 2 isn't a great game nor is it a bad game. It is plagued by awful AI and the graphics are previous generation. The skill tree gives the game replay value as you can test and play different kinds of builds. There are a variety of weapons to choose from, but there could be more. Despite what people say, the maps don't really change. The objectives simply are relocated.

We were completely lied to by the developers as they are now releasing $7 and $5 add-ons to the game that unlock exclusive weapons and perks. Even though the game is co-op, players now officially gain a significant advantage over others by paying small fees for bonus weapons and abilities.

Sometimes the AI for the enemies seems like it cheats. This is only really when you are walking behind them or hiding and they see you anyway. It's ruined more that one heist for me, though it's still fun to shoot your way out.

The AI is laughably incompetent and will literally only shoot at cops when you are under siege. They will not carry bags, steal money, take hostages, etc etc etc. So playing the game solo is basically impossible, except on the easiest of levels or with the most advanced equipment.
As for randoms, you will occasionally get a decent game, but the vast majority of players never seem to use voice or text chat. The only communication tool the game provides is a single all-purpose button, no voice call-out menu or anything like that. Matchmaking missions tend to devolve into 4 people doing their own thing in the same map, kind of like Monaco but much, much less fun.

There are other problems: progression is trickle-fed like a heroin drip, with the almost never avoided pitfall of leaving new players with almost nothing. The starter rifle and pistol are wildly inaccurate, and the game mechanics make it ridiculously difficult to pull off a heist without alerting the police while at low level. I appreciate a satisfying skill tree and item progression, but restricting new players into only playing the game one way is not the correct way to do it. So far my time with the game has resembled Left 4 Dead more than Monaco, Hitman or Thief.

The biggest technical issue is the insane hard drive bloat. The game originally required less than 10gb of space. With the latest DLC, it now takes up just under 25gb. That is bigger than GTAIV, RAGE or RO2. This is completely ridiculous, and could well make the game unplayable for someone who bought it thinking the officially listed requirement of 10gb was accurate.

Well, to start, it's grindy. Very grindy. I still don't have the silent drill after many hours of play in the technician tech tree. And I still don't have good mods for my weapons, because they only drop randomly. And you can't trade. And you still have to pay ingame cash for them after they do drop. Yep, that's double-dipping in terms of extending the length of the game. And it goes past that-- there are only a few missions, it's only worth it to play on Overkill difficulty due to only those missions giving enough experience and money, and contracts are very expensive. That means that either you grind for more mission money after being a charity for the three other guys in the party by buying the mission contract, or you wait for an Overkill mission to pop up on the jobs map. And after you get into a mission, hope that you connect, because you'll normally be stuck in a connection loop, or find "lobby full" when you try to join someone else's game. And after you join the game, you have a high chance of being kicked thanks to the uncommunicative and elitist community. Not high level enough? Kicked, even though there's A FILTER FOR THAT they chose not to use. They just want to be dicks to you? Kick you right before the mission ends so you won't get XP or money. But let's assume you get a working, nice crew together. Now you don't know if everyone wants to do the same thing, or has the proper loadout. The game was advertised as one where you'll call up a friend with specialties to perform a specific job. In reality, you don't have that many friends, and never will. You have to rely on randoms. Can you advertise a lobby as a stealth only lobby? Can you make sure you have skills A, B, C and D before you go in? No. You can't. So even if against all odds you get a sane game, you might not have the right team compo. And then there's random other issues. For one, there just aren't a lot of mission types. There are only really about 8 mission types in the game (probably why they have to try so hard to stretch content out). Guns don't sound right, and the shooting feels bad. The soundtrack is kind of awful and repetitive. If your final team member doesn't go to the extraction point, then the rest of you can be shot while he dawdles and then you'll fail the mission (downed members anywhere, including in the extraction point, prevent extraction). There's no proper offline practice mode, because you'll lose ingame currency if you buy contracts in offline mode, and lose money for killing civilians in offline mode.

So why am I giving this game a 5? What's there good about it? Like I said, it's a four player co-op heist game. It's still pretty fun to play with friends. It might be the only thing your friends will agree on. But friends make everything tolerable-- the game is still pretty bad.

Installed the game, started playing and instantly the sound was stuttering constantly. Went to the safe house and the game froze every few seconds. I looked everywhere for a fix but there is none. I paid $30 for this and am thoroughly disappointed, the developers got their payday, but I sure didn't.

When this game was first released it was fantastic! Sure there was not a whole lot of content, but there was a promise of more and what they had was good. Then they changed how some things worked, like they added finite numbers to things which made the game even more playable and fun.

Unfortunately with the numbers came the arbitrary artificial difficulty spike in the game. Suddenly armor didn't seem to matter and even the best armor in the game would get 2 shot within a second, and there are places that you CANNOT stealth with this mechanic implemented. The stealth is par at best with certain aspects being incredibly aggravating like sound being heard from suppressed weapons across rooms and through a few walls. But all this could be made up for since it's a co-op game and could have a good community...riiiggghhhttt?

This game has a terrible community and overkill poorly supports it. It is hard to find good connections to games and when you do if you're low level don't expect to stay. Overkill tries to "help" the community by censoring it. As an example just look at their statement on cheating. In a nutshell it states that if you even mention the word cheating anywhere on their forums even if it would be beneficial towards the community to know what to look for expect an immediate ban from their forums and possibly of anything overkill related and them reporting you to valve as if that does anything.

I can't even go to their forums anymore for fear if I say anything negative I won't be able to play anything of their's ever again. Hell, I don't know if I'm safe even here. If they look at this review and find me on steam then they may do the exact same thing.

At first, I felt bad for the backlash their community gave them for some things. Now that they have taken the lower ground I feel no shame in saying that their decisions with the game so far are terrible and I don't see a bright future for it.

Things that really need to change:
    - Connectivity errors or random connection dropouts
    - There is no way to see if the games that are hosted are stealth or rambo. This sucks very hard because if you are looking for a stealth game you have to join 7-8 games before you find one.
    - There are too much random bugs (like not being able to drop a bag, i.e. bagbug).
    - Single player (bots) isn't playable. The bots can't do anything but being immortal, revive and shoot.
    - Annoying cardsystem with mask-upgrades all the time. Or pesky XP or money boosts. I want weapon mods, I don't care about masks...
    - Offshore cash isn't useful at all. It became sort-off usefull while the birthday of Pay Day was being celebrated, but even then it was pointless: 30 million dollars for one low grade weaponmod? Great... There should be more uses for offshore account.

    - These are no must for the game to be great, only better: Ways to upgrade and customize your own secret hideout. More weapons would be very handy also. I would like a way of customizing armor as well, it's very ugly right now.

The idea behind the game is brilliant. The execution very, very, VERY bad. Despite all the flaws, bad programming and bugs I rate it a 6 out of 10 because of all the fun I have with it when it works. When the game finally becomes more mature I would rate it higher with no doubt.

PayDay 2 impress you since the first minutes thanks to its fast-paced 4 players co-op gameplay. But that's not just kill the bad cops and take the money.
It offers 18 total heits and they go from the classic bank heist to steal paintings inside a museum or to bring a senator into a bad gate made of coke and scandals you have to create or share to the public.
It has nice graphics, even if not shocking, but it does the job thanks to filters and the engine can put the game to 120-135FPS with many cops on the screen even with mid-end hardware configurations. Just AA is missing but filter usage covers it quite well.
Cool sound effects, adrenaline is set to the max with assault soundtrack, get together with a nice co-op oriented gameplay. Basically, no matter if you choose how to complete the mission, or the day (in fact missions can be made of one, two or three days at present), if you co-op you rock, if you don't you fail, or get arrested if you prefer. Missions are dynamic, so point of interests can change in location and make it harder or easier. Rewards are based on the difficulty level you choose and it increases if you make the job at "Pro" way, in which if you fail you can't retry. Stealth is also the best way, when possible but often it is, to complete missions without killing tons of ordinary and special cops.

Online mode (I won't spend words about offline mode, that is definetely not the mean the game has meant to be played), called CRIME.NET, is clean and well organized. Just lobbies are a little bugged but when you play everything runs extremely fluid. The game is ourtsince few days and it has already got several patches so it seems support is good too. 5 DLCs are planned for this year. Pay day has come, time to get your reward, FUN!"

Absolute magnificence. Payday 2 walks the fine line between stealth gaming and shooting without compromising either. Skill trees that allow flexibility, while still limiting players from covering every role. They've even got the player feedback for stealth gameplay right. All I would like is more, more missions.

The thing I find most annoying is how you get items in this game. In the old game the way you got items was leveling up and getting achievements. You still unlock things when you level up like guns, supply things and bullet proof vests but, when you want something like a mask, something to paint you're mask or an add on to you're gun to make it better you need to complete a full heist and then it gives you a choice to pick 3 random cards, this process can get annoying when you get stupid add ons for guns you don't like or just get bad paint or designs for your mask.

This process makes it annoying when you want something and you can't get it because of this lousy card system and doesn't make it fun.

I also found this getting a little bit repetitive and that's why I couldn't play it hours and hours on end without getting bored.

I do recommend to buy this game on sale.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is complete bloody If you played the beta you have no reason to buy this game you have played the complete game basically minus 10 player experience levels and in whichever class you choose and 3 or 4 guns pretty much (that are honestly lacking and where is the lmg's?). 17 Heists/Jobs (30 Stages/Missions) 6 (random) Escape Heists is what they promised, what was actually given was like 10 or 12 tops. Worthless considering every heist is about 1/3 in size or complexity in comparison to any heist on PD1 not to mention the copy/paste effort that each heist is. When i say there is 10 to 12 heists half of those are also the EXACT SAME. Bank cash, deposit and gold are 3 different heists regardless of them being literally the exact same missions with a different bag item and jewellery store and the Ukrainian job are also basically the same. Oh and they also count a difficulty as a whole new set of heists to bump up their abysmally small list. Also the dynamic environment is pretty much the same every time you play minus one less or more guard/security camera in a slightly different spot. Expand

The implementation of stronger RPG elements compared to PAYDAY: THE HEIST was fantastic and I actually feel my toon is more unique this time around (granted there are optimal builds right now, I believe Overkill will get this balanced as they genuinely listen to the fan base and make changes). The four classes are unique and varied and there are not enough skill points to take everything from every tree meaning you have to plan things out. The weapons this time around are more varied with TONS of attachments and modifcations between them all. The graphics are not Titanfall/Skyrim/The Last of Us pretty, but they are fantastic with good lighting and are not a burden on the GPU, memory, or processor making it easier to play for aging systems! HUZZAH! Character customization comes in the form of changing and tweaking your masks for the crimes (otherwise you play the 4 heisters from the webseries and that doesn't change) and it is a fantastic system that is easy to understand. THe missions are varied, unique, and fun that most can be either stealthed (which adds a GREAT ammount of challenge) or run n' gun'ed (which is still fun). The shooting mechanics IMO are some of the best in any video game out today. The recoil on weapons feels realistic and weighty which is matched by supurb sound effects that makes the weapons feel and sound real. Furthermore on weapons, this is one of the FEW games that actually made the weapons cycle, reload, lock bolts, and use bolt releases correctly MAJOR points for that! Great coop of course as that is the focus. Overkill actively supports the game, community, and listens to us grip and praise them. They shower the game with updates and changes and have promised a TON of DLC and further support so more longevity.

The bad, not a lot. Bad single player AI, just terrible, so stay online and you are good. Mission geometry randomization to me was not as varied as advertised and could be better adding further replay value. No tutorial for missions, you are going to have to learn on the fly so be ready and pay attention to the experianced players (as generally they are helpful, only met one player who was rude and called people F***ing retards).

Not a lot of bad, GREAT pro's for the game. Drop the cash and support Overkill, they made a true gem with this title and fullfilled the dream of every man on the planet, to commit a Heist!

Payday 2 is an extremely fun simulation FPS, game that puts you right into the heists. I think it's very enjoyable and stands up there with the first one, but better in lots of ways. Good job OverKill!

Missions can quickly go sour and turn into a large scale arms war if the team does not work together. It gives the sense that the team has to work as one, instead of a single person doing all the work and makes it a game that truly makes use of co-op game play.

As a co-op game it shines. Learning curve is pretty high, since there is no tutorial and the game is pretty complicated. You will have to learn the hard way, or with a helpful and experienced teammate who bothers to tell you how you play. But usually players who can't play get kicked.

Also been noticing that some people use certain missions to grind for levels, since some heists are easier than others and provide more rapid leveling up. That's too bad, since there is almost 30 missions.

It's not a full game in a sense. It's just a moderately sized co-op game with a lot of replay value. Gun play is better than in Payday 1, graphics better, missions more complicated and this time actually you can go all-stealth. I recommend this one, but only online.

My heart was pounding as the guard moved just a little closer for the stealth kill. I felt my body fill with adrenaline when another guard spotted us and called the police. I had my entire body shifting forward as I shot at police, the superb musical score relentlessly beating in my headphones, hostages' cries filling the air, the drill breaking again. I felt the sadness and tragedy as the FBI descended on us, the vault slowly opening as the smoke finally cleared.

It's tons of fun to play with friends, but not so much with strangers, if you're lucky you can find some good people, but most of the time you will end up with a bunch of idiots who doesn't know what stealth means.
It also updates quite often, adding new heists and whatever the developers can think of in the future.

Some would say Payday 2 feels like a massive improvement to its predecessor Payday: The Heist.

    I, however, disagree.

The game graphically is horrifyingly plain; environments lack detail and often have awful textures which for whatever reason were not present in the beta. This makes no sense whatsoever. As if to add insult to injury: the game runs on an ageing engine which pales in comparison to other games released this year.

Secondly, the AI is abysmal: in the single player you start with two teammates (not three, strangely) with their only real purpose is to shoot the never ending onslaught on Washington's police force. These AI teammates cannot help you with objectives; can't pick up bags and can't even smash store windows to help you so be prepared to do EVERYTHING yourself. The police AI also pales as well, their basic tactics consist of charging your position all the time tossing smoke bombs and occasionally tear gas as they run into you not being conscientious of their surrounding cover.

Thirdly; Crime.net is an absolute p***take. In both the online mode and offline mode you have to sit looking at a Google Earth-esqe map of Washington for the minimum of two minutes waiting for the mission that you want to pop up. The most annoying part of this is each mission that pops up has its own set difficulty: so you have to wait for both the mission you want to pop up AND the difficulty you want to pop up. This infuriates me so much. On the side you can select your mission directly, skipping the waiting time for it to pop up; but you have to spend your goddamn in-game money to buy a contract to go stealing money to make a profit again? WHAT.

Fourth is the overall state of the game itself; the game itself shipped with about FIVE missions originally. The same amount as in the beta I might add. This is a serious lack of content and Overkill have already planned DLC? Fix the bugs first! The levels themselves are not as dynamic as Overkill makes them sound either; there are subtle differences between each time you play the mission but nothing you'll really appreciate as you constantly blast away the police force and constantly repair the goddamn drills that the so-called 'master criminals' have. This seriously makes me question why you can't upgrade your drill unless you do the Technician skill tree? Sigh.

If you can manage to get into a game with your friends however (there's quite a few connection issues going around; then the game can provide a minor modicum on amusement as your team can actually help you grind through the ranks. The music is pretty good when the assaults start and gets you ready for the next wave of enemies; shame there's barely enough time to do anything productive in between these waves.

Also, they took out the Cloaker from the original; which is a shame as I enjoyed the mild thrill of trying to shoot the Sam-Fisher like ninja policeman.

While a lot of people have complained about performance, I've only come across one or two crashes in my 60 hours playing. If you have a bad internet connection, or a slow computer, this may not play that well for you, but if you can play other multiplayer games on Steam, it should be fine. There are also not that many different heists that you can play, and all of them are unlocked at level 30, but the different ways to play them with different people keep each heist exciting enough to play a few times in a row. The only things more I'd ask of this game is more heists, customisable safe house (which Overkill talked about a lot leading up to the release), and host migration. Other than that, there isn't much more to ask for. I'd definitely recommenced this to anyone who has a good internet connection and $30. Expand

I understand this game is intended to be a CO-OP game, but that doesn't mean it should be boring and even frustrating to play alone. The missions are obviously designed for multiple people, playing them alone can leave you lugging 6 bags from point A to point B one by one as your AI teammates will not assist you with anything except combat. On the topic of AI, even disregarding the atrocious allied AI, the enemy AI is equally as bad difficulty levels are lazy and don't add anything to the tactics enemy AI use, they simply do more damage and are harder to kill.

On a positive note, the game is remarkably fun with a few friends, even with the problems with enemy AI. It's fast-paced, exciting, and rewarding. The specialization skill trees are subtle enough to be reasonable and yet still feel like there's a difference in terms of your ability as any particular role.

Do the cons outweigh the pros? I'm not one to decide that, but this game has glaring issues that should have been addressed prior to launch. However, for a $30 game, it's most likely well worth your money if you have a few friends to play with.

And this game essentially requires multiplayer, with all its connection issues. The AI assisting you are dumb, the AI for the enemies are dumb, about the only seemingly not dumb AI are the ones who are supposed to press the panic buttons. But back to technicals. I have a generation one i7 with a GTX 580 and I can't run this on full HD. Maybe I have old drivers or I heated them too much you say, okay perhaps that explains the low FPS, but it certainly isn't causing the mouse lag. Look it up. It's a retarded problem I've never seen happen in any other game. If I lower resolution to 1600 900 its workable but anything higher and the mouse is not crisp. Thankfully the AI are dumb so it's like playing a zombie game when you're shooting but this carries over to the menus. Like, really? There's a host of other technical problems too, including the game crashing when you attempt to accept a friend invite to a game. Which you basically have to because the lobby system in this game is garbage.

And it has to be, because otherwise it'd be all too clear that this game has 0 content. Starting a mission requires you to look at what appears to be a map of a city, and then there are random dots that show up here and there. You aren't allowed to just pick a certain mission or a certain difficulty, you have to wait for it to pop up. It's not even in predictable locations; you'll find the exact same mission spawn on two entirely different points on the map. The maps have slightly different spawns totally to maybe five variations tops on each mission, but overall its the same stuff. This randomness is also in equipment: you can buy your base guns, but every single mod and every single mask component has to be obtained through random draw at the end of missions through this pick a card thing. Oh, and you still have to pay for them.

And every single mission briefing or ending there are people talking about the "story" in the background.

And that's the game. What did I pay 30 bucks for again? This is an "Action RPG"? Where's the action and where's the RPG? Maybe RPG stands for Random Player Game, because even the player's own equipment can only be obtained through lottery.

If you always have 3 friends playing with you then perhaps going full stealth every time inserts a little strategy and coordination into it, but just playing by yourself or with pubbies will always just turn it into Zombies: Stealing Cash With Clown Masks Edition.

To all the people that talk about bugs and connection problems you should really check the game again. The only major downfall is that you have to get the mission you wanna play on a dynamic map that change all the time, and many missions only pop up a few times per hours and for about 4-5 secs.

Also you run out of bullets quite fast in harder difficulty modes. And the weapons accuracy is very low.

This game will obviously feature a tons of DLC, and I will likely revise my ratingf based how how they price them and if you can play with your friends who dont necessarily own those DLC.

This game is incredibly fun! whether your play style is loud and proud or quiet and stealthy. this game has everything I could want in an FPS. My friend says it's fun. Perks and all were nice, more amount of skills and more maps than the predecessor, definitely worth it for 4 friends who are looking to play together.

This game is quite literally "ok", not great, not crap. First the good points: The varying placement of items and such around the level is a nice touch, the jobs that pop in and out of existence, the online with 4 other users is nice because of the speed the job can be achieved with as well a substantial rewards. However this game leaves a lot to be desired of it. Offline isn't even worth playing, the AI are beyond awful, apart from shooting they cannot pick up bags and help nor can the be sly once the heist is started. They won't do anything but stick to a 1 metre radius from you which means they will not hold an area unless you are at the centre which makes going back and forth to pick up each bag (because they won't do it) even harder than it needs to be. Then the reward is tiny in comparison to online. Not only that but the reward is split into an "overseas account" (which essentially you cannot touch ever as far as I can tell, I may be wrong) and a pocket money style account which is about 5% of the overall amount earned from the heists. This means it is utterly useless if you want to upgrade your weapons, it took me over 5 hrs of gameplay offline to collect enough for a silencer, which leads me to the next downfall, the add-ons are given to you at random, well I say given, unlocked and then sold at random, I'm yet to be able to customise masks and yet people who are just starting have fully customised ones because they were lucky enough to get a random mask upgrade which was the actual mask (which is very rare in my experience). However none of these are worth avoiding the game for, these are my reasons for avoiding it. Customisation of your "safehouse" is mentioned right at the beginning of the game, you would be able to use the money you have earned to customise. However this is not actually a feature and thus the money stored away is utterly pointless. I have $18million (that's not much if you play online) stashed away but I cannot use it for anything (including buying equipment). This is because this feature was given as a pre-order bonus... it baffles me to think, that was the reward for buying a game. Developers are getting lazier and greedier. Finally the thing that rubbed me up the wrong way and makes the rating so low is that this game would be a 10 (if patches for small details are to arrive) in my book, this game is perfect as a multiplayer game to play with your friends, get the lads round for beers and a gaming session... put the disc in "oh this looks cool" "so there are 4 characters, do we get to choose which ones we want?" OH WAIT! NO SPLITSCREEN!!! This game would be the game of the year for me if it had splitscreen, I'd even forgive just 2 player splitscreen but a 1 player game with 4 main characters is beyond stupid. Online fails to give the same rush of you and your mates shouting at each other in the same room, "You need to blow that safe" "I'm down" "Grab that jewelry!" (This doesn't work if you need to explain over the headset where it is). I know this is done to sell more but I can tell you in my friends group out of 4 (not including me) wanting to get the game, only 1 decided to buy it, do you want to know why? because they wanted a game that meant they could invite their mates round and play, like fifa, COD, Minecraft and many others. Playing over the internet is just not as fun not to mention if you're internet is a little temperamental it becomes a burden. This game is more of a DLC for a full game. it basically is a few set missions that needs you to play online to remotely enjoy it and doesn't allow you to play with mates. This game makes my head hurt, it's the perfect 4-way splitscreen game for you and friends except that it's not possible to do what this game was designed for. So it if you don't mind not being with your friends then yeah it's an average wave of police that you shoot!
I wanted this game to be amazing but it just falls far too short of a completed game. Hopefully splitscreen will start to reappear in games.
Why are TVs getting bigger yet 10 yrs ago you could get 4 players on one tine 15" and now you can only get 1 on a 50"? What is wrong with you developers, you'd sell more making it fun than forcing people into it... Please understand this game feels rushed but the mechanics are interesting but not complete. It just has so many let downs in my opinion. The idea of the game is lovely but the outcome is "Meh" as soon as GTA comes out this will die away because it lacks the finished feel of a great game.

    Conclusion:
Single player: utterly useless (google it, that's everyone's opinion)
Online: ok, fun but no more than any other online co-op, you'd rather be with mates.
with friends: would much rather be out having a pint if we can't be in the same place while enjoying ourselves.
Customisation: looks good, I have all sorts of add-ons which needs parts that are part of a lucky dip and I'm yet to get hold of hence no idea.

Payday 2 is without a doubt a large improvement on the first game, it does everything better but still falls short out of being a real standout shooter that the concept should be.

Probably the best tactical coop first person shooter I have played. Great with friends and pubs who really wanna go silent. I've easily clocked more on this game in the past 2 weeks than most games. Very addicting!

Its your chance to get a taste of what its like to break bad and rob a bank or jewelry store without real repercussions. Its even better with a mic. Despite the games lack of a complete feeling, I do firmly believe this was a good purchase on steam and will stand by that. I have been playing the game for weeks now and I could recommend it to anyone looking for a different co-op type FPS. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolutely incredible game. Payday: The Heist seemed like a game that would be hard to usurp but OVERKILL went leaps and bounds over their initial expectations. Dynamic maps, mask and gun customization, a heist where your objective is literally to f**k sh*t up, there are very few things that you can take away from this game. Even when I get bored of it, I find myself coming back to it in a few hours or so. The only thing that's keeping this game from a 10/10 are a plethora of game-breaking bugs and glitches, which I'm sure will fixed in the coming weeks, thanks to the dedicated people at OVERKILL who release updates every weeks or so. PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
