More skins in the new update and more bugs
It's pay to win now, as the skins cost money to buy and have stat boosts

This studio just want to make quick and easy money and is selling you something you might never get.

Trust me, you can invest those kind of money into games and studios that deserve it. I am regretting ever supporting Overkill.

Spent money on DLC's to support them and keep the game alive for years. Sure, microtransactions do work, but not like this. The skins give advantages. Also promised no microtransactions, but oh well. Lying is a thing. I'd be lying if I'd say this is a good company. The game isn't what is's used to be.

Joining myself in the crusade of a statement we want to bring to Overkill: **** you Overkill!!!
On the first day of the crimefest event 2k15 was supposed to be free content, but it was a free update with a copy pasted cs go skins and the micro-transactions that it brings.
What less people discussed is also the weapon stats has gone totally overboard and is totally rushed and not well

A delightful fun time, until the developers added microtransactions that changed weapon stats, then nerfed the weapons to the point that without microtransactions, weapons are useless. Do not play.

The OVERKILL crew wants to get ALL your money by all means. 100$ + micro-transactions for skins that change weapon stats is the worst marketing idea ever.
Playing the game be ready to deal with desynch that makes coop stealth impossible, bugs, and disbalance (coz DLC weapons are 200% better than vanilla).

Let's get the positives over with. This game fills a niche market; a game where you get to play as a criminal with very specific skills and profiles. I know you may be thinking GTA at the moment but Payday is very different. Not being an open world game, Payday focuses on the jobs and heists themselves. You and a four person crew work together to hold off police forces while accomplishing goals and gaining assets. There is also a fleshed out skills system in which you customize your characters abilities and fighting style. For a long time this was the best game for anyone who loves heist movies and wanted to experience the thrill of criminal enterprise without all the jail time.

Now for the negatives. This game has always been buggy and the graphics are below average at best. The AI has always been awful, demanding that you play with other people; any hopes of playing by yourself will be quickly shut down. While these were relatively minor issues, because Payday 2 is constantly being updated, problems have cropped up. One can easily spend over one hundred dollars on DLC for this game, some of which is needed to stay competitive. DLC's show no sign of slowing with a new one being introduced nearly each month. Micro-transactions are also part of the game costing $2.50 for a gamble on a new weapon mod each time. One can't help but wonder if the studio has squandered all its profits on a hugely successful game and are now bailing out a sinking ship. The point is that Payday 2 certainly looks to be on the decline and isn't worth consumers' funding any longer.

As another note, any potential buyers should understand that the older any reviews are, the more unreliable they get, due to the nature of this constantly updated game. The newest reviews are all going to be the most accurate to the game as is it right now.

Usually doing that in games is boring and/or frustrating as all get out, but PAYDAY 2 found a way to make it work, and work REALLY well.

So what happened to get this negative review? Long story short: the updates. People began to note that with each passing DLC there was a sort of power creep going on. A pay to win system. Now the latest update promises weapon rebalances to fix this issue as part of this massive community event where we completed challenges for free rewards. What happened instead? Weapons were further nerfed and a microtransaction model was implemented. Get a safe at random and then pay a fee of real world money to get a drill to unlock the safe to get a random skin. Sounds familiar? CSGO and TF2 did the same thing with their key system. Only difference here is that the skins enhance your stats.

So what did this update the community have to work for and were promised a free reward turn out to be? Your guns are rendered useless and the only way to buff them back to where they were before, which means still a power creep and paid DLC guns are still superior, is to spend even more money to have a CHANCE at fixing your loadout. That's BS. What is also BS is that prior to release the company stated in an interview when asked if PAYDAY 2 will have microtransactions, "No. No. God, I hope not. Never. No." But wait, that came from someone who left the company! I hear you, I understand. Here's a link to a statement from Almir Listo, who is still at Overkill and working as the unofficial PR guy because Overkill won't hire a real one for some reason. http://i.imgur.com/wQCwAyd.png This update has turned them into liars.

"Wait wait wait," I hear you saying. "Not all the guns were nerfed. Some of them were buffed." Indeed, buffed to ridiculous extremes. For example, pistols are now doing three times the damage shotguns are. This is its own problem. As stated earlier, there was a powercreep going on. It has gotten so much worse now, with specific items at least. The balance has been thrown out the window. So how do you catch up your nerfed weapons to be back where to were, much less on par with the other weapons that were buffed to high hell? Skins! Pay up and MAYBE you'll see your gun marginally improve.

Nerfing weapons to hell and putting buffs to them behind a gambling paywall is wrong.

Buffing weapons to the point that the game is completely unbalanced and Bulldozers, this game's version of COD MW's Juggernauts, are able to be killed in 3-5 headshots and the effect where their mask flies off from the damage taken simply doesn't work anymore is also a game killer. You don't really have a game anymore. Just something to throw money at.

Was this game great at one time? Absolutely.
Is it worth your money now? Heck no. Stay away. You'll just end up having to spend even more of it anyways.

I also bought it knowing that Overkill was an indie dev, had new concepts like Safehouse Customization, and wouldn't have microtransactions. Currently, all of those are wrong.

One of the original creators of Payday 2 (who is no longer with the company) said that there would never be microtransactions in this game. The current head of development for this game said TWICE that there would never be microtransactions in this game. Clearly he is a liar and Overkill doesn't respect their consumers.

Well, they opened a Pandoras Box with this little stunt during an event which (according to years past) is supposed to be free content only for the people who put quite a large amount of money in their pockets. WE supported them and they decided that it wasn't good enough. I, for one, won't take that. I've been playing this game on and off since its launch. I don't have nearly the amount of time most of its veterans do, only a meager 200 hours clocked on steam.

Payday 2 started out as a fairly solid coop-experience, there was stuff to do, things to earn, it was a great game at launch and the several DLCs following. It had a very fair pricing model, only the party leader required to buy the DLC so the whole party could play. But as time went on, and more of the core founders of OVERKILL left, things started looking grim. More paid DLC was pushed through faster, often adding very little to the game. The community events started to take a turn for the worse, focusing on raising money and advertising partnerships instead of celebrating the the fans or improving on the game.

Ultimately the game became a gigantic grind, a handful of missions were always the best to run to min-max rewards. And when they promised to rework the infamy system once more, all we got were additional levels that served no use in game-play other than to distract the completionists for a few more weeks.

The final straw was Crimefest 2015, an update touted to be free to play for all, with an event leading up to its release featuring challenges and rewards for the community as a whole to unlock. Instead they chose to add pay to win elements to the game, and not only that. Ones you would have to gamble for. Unlike TF2 or CSGO where skins are purely cosmetic, in payday 2 they have the ability to roll random bonus stats and modifications. There is no trade system and some of the skins are for DLC weapons only, leaving some player stuck with skins they have paid for that they are unable to use unless they shell out more money for the paid weapon packs.

Rightfully so, the community has been outraged. The developers remain silent instead of trying to resolve the issue or reassure people its being looked into. Given the track record with the current staff of OVERKILL, it comes as little surprise they would do something so controversial. After two of the three founders of the company left to persue other careers there has been a history of lies, half-truths, and selling out the players best interest for every penny.

Unfortunately between the horrible update design, developer silence, and previous experiences, I will not be playing this game or any other game from Starbreeze studios or OVERKILL software in future. Nor would I recommend their games to you or anyone who will listen. They do not value their players time, devotion, or even money.

A long time ago there was a company which made pretty awesome game. Bunch of crooks, lots of cops, guns to shoot, people to rob. Plain and simple. More heists, guns and everything. Of course, i preordered it. And, unlike what Eric Cartman said, i didn't get a huge ♥♥♥♥ in my mouth. I got a game that still needed working on. Fix this, add that and it'd be even greater than the first part. But instad we, the players were like a Pavlov's dog or a maid in a hotel. The bell rang and she came. The dlc comes out and we buy it. At first we calmed ourselves:"Just a little dlc. Rather cheap. Devs have to eat too." But then the bell rang more and more, slowly succumbing to buying more ♥♥♥♥. And the ♥♥♥♥ it was. "New guns, melee, masks" were, in fact, just another piece of either useless (because of OP guns) or owerpowered guns that made no sense in using others. Anyway, the guns were a lot, the heisters were a lot, the melee was a lot and the heists not a lot. But, more importantly, despite all dlcs nothing changed ingame. We could count on one hand's fingers the times we had to do something that didn't include tossing bags all over tha map. But as of recent times, dlcs began to be even ♥♥♥♥♥ier, meaningless than you'd imagine. And then the striking blow we got. Brutus finally stroke us in the back with the blade of microtransactions (which are not totally them, but still it's ♥♥♥♥ed up mechanic). Buying useless skins for a cost of few dlc's. And that's while there are entire mod communities that made skins, weapons and suits for the characters for free. But nooooo. Now you have to buy the game itself, dlcs, weapons skins and all that nonsense. I think developers should be remembered that this is a game of ROBBERY, HEISTS and not golden guns, pink masks and greeny-blacky-redy-blue **** as melee. And your common "DON'T BUY IF U DON'T WANT IT, MOIT" does not work here. Because would you like to eat an entire cake? Or only oranges that cake includes, apart from other ingridients (which are quite a lot).

To be short: game was good, then became worse, and now it's like a money-eating vacuum cleaner.

Payday 2 was ok until developers start adding microtransactions in a retail co-op game. it's not even MMO - all the game network mechanics is based on peer-to-peer. It looks stupid and money grabbing scheme - stay away. even other titles which has microtransactions have way to get items not spending a real money and those titles hosted on developers servers.

The developer stated clearly and publicly at multiple times that there would be no microtransactions in game, ever.

The latest update introduced microtransactions. The game has already been heavily monetized with DLC.

The developer lied to customers and sold the game under false pretenses on Steam. Do not support them or their profit-mongering behavior. 0/10 for lying to loyal customers.

The original developers of Payday are a dying breed, and the few who remain have turned it fully into a "Pay for the game, so you can pay for a chance to pay to win".

    The developer promised NO MICROTRANSACTIONS
What they do? micros for content that gives you stats and turning it in a pay to win game. And this was released during an event that was suppose to release free stuff.

The developers promised on multiple occasions that there would be no microtransactions n the game at any point. There are now mictrotransactions. These microtransactions can increase the stats of your weapons, a big no-no in any game. This was also released at the beginning of an event that was explicitly stated to be 'free content for everyone'.

I think the game itself is quite good.

They disabled every mod for the game, specifically the ones that allow skins and UI customization, with the same update. The Developer then has remained silent other than 1 tweet claiming the unprecedented community backlash was just us being uncivilized. 48 hours of terrible decisions have ruined the game they spent 3 years making. No matter the actions they take now, the community has spoken and most have left for good. In typical Free-to-Play titles, microtransactions offer an avenue to support the developer and get some cool cosmetics to show you are doing so in-game; however, In the case of Payday 2, the microtransactions consist of RNG weapon skins that also add stat buffs to your guns. This is paired with a "rebalance" that was released on the same day that nerfed most of the popular weapons in terms of accuracy, power, or both. The only way to get your weapons back up to snuff is to perform a microtransaction and get lucky with the RNG.

Due to this turn of events and the lack of response to overwhelming community outcry over the last 48 hours, experienced players are advising potential newcomers to avoid buying this title partly due to Payday 2 becoming a money pit for the developers, and partly due to the prediction that this game will become free-to-play in the near future.

In its current state, even free-to-play, avoid this title and let developers know that practices such as going back on their word (it was promised that microtransactions would not come into play in two previous statements by the developers) and forcing customers who already paid for the game to perform microtransactions to continue having a good experience will not be tolerated by consumers.

You really disappointed me with this recent update, Overkill; and you might not get the same respect as you once earned with this community ever. I mean, stat boosts for god damn skins? A feature so unoriginal and coined by CS GO but you don't care because you're after that $$$, am I right? Of course I am, and you know it.

It used to be one of my favorite co-op games.
Overkill software ruined it completely in just one year thinking only about money.
    Please, DO NOT buy it.

Just another game that fell into the micro-transactions pit.. It was fun for the time when it was an honest game, but that time is long gone. I suggest trying to get a refund if you currently have it. Steam will willingly refund it, considering the company lied about it's game and the criminal practices it's company is currently taking part in.

Payday 2 is a great coop game. It has a great community that works together to get what they want. Unfortunately, the game devs work against everyone by doing things like lying, making passive aggressive apologies, treating the community badly, and giving micro-transactions as a reward to a community challenge after saying there would NEVER be micro-transactions.

    Great game, but right

Stop contradicting yourself OVERKILL, give us good content, not **** excuses for DLC and microtransactions WHICH YOU ONCE SAID WON'T MAKE IT INTO THE GAME.

Lying developers, they say no microtransactions, BAM microtransactions, then they try to brush it off with the next update. In the road to crimefest event, it was said that the rewards would be free, but i dont think paying for skins is a free reward

Be aware that the vast majority of positive reviews are for previous versions of the game.

Before the most recent updates, this was one of the best games I'd ever played, but the new update introduces a blatant system of pay-to-win cash grabbing, and a "rebalance" that causes far more issues than it solves. In its current state, the game is completely unplayable, and I cannot

Added micro-transactions. In a paid game. with paid DLCs. After saying that it would never happen. As a "free" update meant to be a reward for the community's efforts in an event. Oh, and they aren't just for cosmetic items, they actually interfere with the gameplay.

They said they were going to rebalance weapons and make improvements to the game....They decided the best way to do this was to add micro transactions!!!

Overkill managed to gather 30k+ users to play at the same time in order to beat a challenge, now the same strategy is being used against Overkill because they implemented skins boxes (that affects stats) that required to buy a key with real money to unlock.

    Ironic results are ironic.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
