8.5 - Don't pay attention to the bad user score. This game is pretty awesome, with fun coop multiplayer that is different from most games (due to the concept of bank heist). Lots of detailed and varied maps and very funny masks to use.

Gaining money and spending it on weapons and masks, becoming infamous, and having fun with your friends are great ways for high replayability. It's a love/hate relationship this game seems to be getting, and to some certain degree, I can agree to that. But for the most part, don't expect me to stop playing it anytime until Payday 3 happens. I Don't understand why people leave a bad review because of the microtransactions. The safes are now free to open now, after the update 100 when they got their publishing rights back from 505 games.

Most of the negative reviews revolve around the issue of Starbreeze/Overkill not being trust-worthy and implementing excessive amounts of dlc; HOWEVER, the game is still perfectly enjoyable without dlc, it's more of a pay-2-fun thingy, and even then, all the dlc heists are still accessible if a friend of yours has the dlc and hosts it.

On to the game, it's a pretty fun co-op shooter which also implements stealth mechanics, with a great variety of heists and an infinite amount of replayability, not to mention the infinite amount of difficulties that aim to suit both the casual/for fun player with the lower of them and the hard-core/tryhard with the higher ones.

Payday is a great game with some flaws.

    Pros
    Combat is fun
A lot of missions when u have the dlcs
    Fun Stealth missions.

    Cons
bad netcode leading into desyncs what can be frustrating at some points.

Overal I can say I love Payday but it would be great if they fix some of the Problems

It is undeniably an excellent game, and an absolute blast if you play it with up to three of your friends. The mixture between intense FPS action and stealth phases is well thought and really encourages thinking before acting and building your equipment accordingly. The customization of your gears and talent tree are really impactful; there is a lot of variety between all the missions available. After 800 hours of play, I am not bored of playing this game which is constantly proposing new challenges.

So why would it be problematic for me to recommend such an original and amazing game ? Well, selling so many DLCs is not an economic model I want to encourage. DLCs are a good way of updating a game, but selling character packs (which are essentially cosmetics, in a non-PVP game !) for five bucks just isn't acceptable to me. Heists DLCs are much more worth the money, and still I think it would make much more sense to have fewer DLCs with more heists, rather than having to buy the game in a kit of 50 pieces. On top of that came the useless micro transactions, which developers initially declared they would never implement...

My conclusion: excellent and original game, and a complete blast with friends. Buy the ultimate edition, but don't waste too much money on the micro transactions and the other DLCs.

The game is much better than the previous one. Better missions, of which there are more. Great music also applies here. But where the game has made the most progress is the customization of weapons. At number one, after a while I started to feel like I had nothing to do with my money. This will not happen to you here, because even after reaching level 100, you have the opportunity to enter the infam, which is ingenious. There are 25 infams in the game and it will take some time to get. The graphics are better than number one, but again nothing breathtaking. But it looks good, except for some blurred objects in the distance. As I mentioned in my review of Left 4 Dead 2, this also applies to graphics here. Better worse, but with the fact that it will also reduce HW requirements and the game can be played by more people. You have a choice of masks, armor, weapons and especially those weapons where the biggest stumbling block is. There are several DLCs in the game, which will not allow you to take the delicious minigun right in front of your eyes, with which you can mow one poem. So if you want to taste this delicacy, you have to reach into your wallet. Although not deep, such a minigun was just an example and in the game the DLCs together are really a hill, so if you want all the content, you will unfortunately have to pay extra. I'm really sorry. Don't worry, the game is one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played, although it still is, so what the game crashes are DLC. Maps have also undergone a change for the better. There are a lot of memorable missions, but again they are not part of the game. The only luck is that if your friend already owns the DLC maps and will be kind and invite you, then you can join in and not own the DLC. Despite the DLC, it's a great game for me and one of the best multiplayers I've ever experienced. I don't know if the game is still being played at this time, what I'm writing a review, but if you have a friend or best friends and create your own crew in the form of four players, you have a long way to level and fight for who will be the best thief of all dob. But I probably wouldn't start playing myself today. Expand

    /// Good Things ///

    - Gameplay.

I like it, i'm seriously not a big fan of those "mindless shooters" where you have a big gon and shoot thousands of enemies, but PAYDAY is a exception for this, i just think that it's done good here. I also really enjoy character perk decks and abilities in the game, it adds SO MUCH, it gives so many options to play; Wanna run around super fast whilst killing everything that moves while also wielding akimbo shotguns? you can do this, maybe you really like melee combat, and really want to kill someone with a **** toothbrush? why not! and maybe you don't want to fight at all, but rather make your enemy surrender, and then convert them so they can fight on your side just like some infamous polish youtuber did? hell yeah, you can.

Speaking of combat, i need to say that it is pretty good there, although feels a little bit stiff, in the base game you have a good-enough arsenal of weapons, Assault rifles, SMG's, shotguns and some "special" weapons, and it is enough for the base game, what i also really like is the fact that you can modify them however you like, WHICH I ABSOLUTELY ADORE, like **** it may not be as good as in other games (i heard that tarkov's weapon mod system is just broken) but i do enjoy it.
Although, there's one thing i don't really like about the weapons in this game, as they feel kinda... boring, to say the least, like when shooting them i barerly feel the recoil, and well, there is recoil, and it definetly makes your aiming job harder, but it feels just wrong, it hits way too weak and just makes you drag your mouse down, very slowly in fact.

Oh, and the heists, they are mostly arlright, from your average bank heists to straight up stealing goats from across the street, there are some really good ideas thrown here, but the way they are made are often bad, like it's almost always the same thing, and i mean:
    1. drill/saw a container that has valuable stuff
    1.5 shoot stuff
    2. steal it
    2.5 shoot stuff
    3. run for your **** lifes

    - Graphics

Graphics in this game are just... okay, they aren't perfect, but they don't make your eyes bleed too, character design is pretty flippin' good too, especially the enemies', like **** you can't tell me that Cloakers and Bulldozers don't look awesome.

    - Voice Acting

Voice acting in this game is literal coinflip, there are characters that have just AMAZING voicelines and there are some that well... are f-ing recycled from top to the bottom. And i'm quite surprised about this one, as Enemy voicelines are absolute GOLD; they are creative and funny, yet you barerly hear even 20% of them, and Player Character quotes are well... MF'in terrible, most of them are literally the same garbage but with a new tone, it's always the same "ENEMI CLOCKER SPOTTED!!111!1" or "x ENEMY DOWN", which sound just bad and uninspired imo, they sound llke the voice actors played the characters purerly for the so-called "PAYDAY" (fun fact, Ron Perlman who voiced Rust did exactly that) not to mention that you need to hear the same quotes on repeat for the next 200 hours if you really want to complete the game, like jesus christ, why.

    - Soundtrack

PAYDAY's soundtrack is without a doubt, a banger, and i mean SURE, it is your average boring 1 2 3 drop big room house stuff that sounds like there was a **** template ued while making it (and there probably was a one!) but at the same time, it's just good, like good, it fits so perfectly with the gameplay, it gives you that odd "feeling" when the drop hits very Mord Fustangin' hard when you're about to kill like the entire Secret Service, my personal favorites are Razormind and Evil Eye.

    /// The BAD Things ///

    - Microtransactions and DLC

I think that everyone heard about this one

Imo, loot boxes USED to be a pretty big f-in problem in this game, and i can't really how much exactly, as i never really played this game before 2020 but i can say that in 2021, they're not a big problem, especially seeing old reviews and videos about this game, they are still there but they don't change the game much, and i mean SURE, there are some expensive skins that may change the gun stats a little bit, but they're not a big problem as this game is a PVE CO-OP, and not a PVP one, so there is barerly any P2W for sure.

And there are DLC's to this game, and well, they are actually, decent-size problem, but i think that it's not as bad as people say, like sure, there are a **** of them but they're not that expensive, not to mention that the game itself on sale is like 1$ and the legacy collection on sale is like 20$, which in my opinion is a steal for that type of game.

    /// In Conclusion: ///

I think that despite some major flaws (Microtransactions) PAYDAY is a solid game, with strong replayability, not to mention the mods, which make the game 100 times better

After 7.5 years with this game, I can confidently say, I've lost no enthusiasm neither towards the gameplay nor towards the amazing music. It's a co-op game that just keeps you and your friends coming back for more.
The developer always came through with new ideas throughout the years, to keep the community entertained and playing, even after that mentioned incident, kudos to them.
Really a labor of love, and the maximum effort one can make out of an old racing game engine.

Year after year I invite new friends to the game, and they always take a liking to it, sooner or later.
DLCs are getting better and better, and the whole game just ages like fine wine.

Muito divertido e cheio de conteúdo. É muito maior que seu antecessor e possui uma gama gigantesca de possibilidades e variações em cada missão, seu maior ponto negativo é referente ao excesso ridículo de DLCs e o quão cru se torna o jogo base.

Payday 2, developed by Overkill Software, is an intense cooperative first-person shooter that puts players in the shoes of professional criminals executing high-stakes heists. With its addictive gameplay, strategic depth, and a wealth of content, this game offers a thrilling and immersive experience that shines brightest when played with friends.

The core of Payday 2 lies in its cooperative gameplay. Players can team up with friends or join a group of strangers to execute elaborate heists. Communication and coordination are key, as players must work together to complete objectives, manage hostages, and fend off waves of law enforcement. The sense of teamwork and camaraderie is exhilarating, and the game rewards players for effectively executing heists while minimizing collateral damage.

The variety of heists in Payday 2 is impressive. From bank robberies and jewelry store heists to complex, multi-day operations, each mission offers a unique set of challenges and objectives. The game provides multiple approaches and strategies for completing heists, allowing players to choose between stealthy approaches or going in guns blazing. The branching skill tree and customizable loadouts offer further depth and flexibility, encouraging players to experiment with different playstyles.

The progression system in Payday 2 is addictive and rewarding. Players earn experience points and cash from successful heists, which can be used to unlock new weapons, equipment, and skill upgrades. The constant sense of progression and the allure of unlocking new abilities and gear provide a satisfying incentive to keep playing and improving.

The game's presentation is solid, with detailed environments and a gritty art style that suits the theme of criminal activities. The sound design is particularly impressive, with realistic weapon sounds, dynamic music that ramps up during intense moments, and the tense chatter of law enforcement on the radio. The overall audiovisual package creates an immersive atmosphere that adds to the tension and excitement of the heists.

While Payday 2 provides a thrilling cooperative experience, it does have a few drawbacks. The AI-controlled teammates, while serviceable, may not match the level of coordination and reliability offered by human players. The game's difficulty curve can be steep, and some heists may require trial and error to master, which can lead to occasional frustration. Additionally, the game's performance and optimization can be inconsistent at times, impacting the overall experience.

Payday 2 is an engaging and addictive cooperative shooter that truly shines when played with friends. The strategic depth, variety of heists, and rewarding progression system make it a standout title in the genre. The immersive atmosphere and satisfying gameplay mechanics create intense and memorable moments. While it has a few flaws, Payday 2 offers a thrilling heist experience that will keep players coming back for more. It earns a solid 8/10 rating for its cooperative gameplay, strategic depth, and replay value.

It gets really repetetive and the safes take too long to drill even with the perks that shorten it (lol 10-15% reduction gee wow) if you survive long enough to make it through the first safe door (the drill will break about 3-4 times) then you are met with ANOTHER FREAKING DOOR TO DRILL which again breaks over and over, THEN (one mission in particular) you sometimes have to spend a bunch of time opening about 100 safe deposit boxes (it is SO freaking asanine) and at that point you have multiple sheild guys coming at once that cannot be killed unless you get behind them. Also stealth is mostly just frustrating and not worth the time and effort. The benefits dont outweigh those of just blowing every security guards head off and getting the heist started.

It also is a bit lacking on content, I only started playing it a few months ago, at which time there had already been several new missions released, I imagine it was much worse at the games release, however the developer is still slowly releasing new content, so this will only get better with time.

If they managed to fix the desync issues and added content a bit faster, I would bump up the rating to a 9, if they managed to get rid of all the hackers that infest the game, it would be a clear 10.

With that said, there are some parts of this game that they could have spent more time on. The game looks decent but there are a few lousy textures. When you get up close the floors, tables and a few other things aren't the sharpest. But, they work and they don't look appalling.

For me, the real problem lies in the levels or the heist themselves. They're so much fun and I really enjoy them but after a while... well you've played all the maps multiple times. By the time I had 10 hours logged I had played every heist multiple times. Yeah, the level design changes a little bit, the vault will be somewhere different or the guards might change but over all, there are no major changes and it's the same lay out. I'm sure they will release more heist and different "maps" but they need to do it quick because the maps are already running stale along with the heist themselves.

They did a wonderful job with customization. There are so many different weapon mods and perks to discover. You can fully customize your safe house which is a bit pointless but fun to do at the same time. There are a lot of new guns in the game all with unique weapon mods. The "perks" are absolutely amazing and are actually worth it. For $30, I recommend you pick up this game. Just make sure you have people to play with, the AI's are absolutely useless and it's not always fun to play with random people...

The content is there, you have roughly 30+ mission to complete with AI or other players, a huge amount of guns and upgrades to unlock, customizable masks, talent trees, a hideout to decorate and several difficulties to choose from.

The missions have far greater variation, from bank jobs to attacking rival gangs, assassinations, cooking meth or escaping the FBI after an ambush in the getaway, none feel the same.

You can tackle most missions differently to suit your playstyle, you can try to be sneaky or go in all guns blazing and the success of each approach is can be affected by your loadout and talent choices, thankfully you can reset your talents at any time.

The biggest let down and real atmosphere killer are the visuals. The world is completely static, there is no movement in trees, no objects have physics, the engine feels dated,I can't help but imagine how amazing this game would be on the Cryengine.

The audio does it's job well, the music is once again excellent, creating tension and thrills where it is needed. The SFX are good but lack the quality of other FPS.

Is payday 2 worth it? If you're a fan of the first one then it is a big YES, if you're new to the payday franchise then it is just yes.

After contemplating on all my gameplays, I think I'm starting to understand why this game that I was so excited for got such a lower than expected score.

This game really is a unique fps/rpg game that fulfills what I always wanted in L4D2; being able to buy new weapons, earning weapon mods, and filling out skill trees. Firing any weapon in this game is powerful and the music really keeps the intensity going. I've always had the fantasy of playing this type of rpg/online fps. However, Payday 2 still stops my dream short...

Currently, Payday 2 can only be the skeleton of what I've dreamed of playing. I know that there's suppose to be 5 expansions throughout the rest of the year, but why couldn't they have been in the game at the start? From my in-game experience, there are about 7 main missions that the players can choose to do. But even through my 6 hour game session, I was able to play most of the missions (some even several times) and everything seems to seem the same after a while.

Part of the reason why I say the game gets tedious too is because there are a lot of people who don't play to the objectives. There were plenty of random players who just wanted to shoot up cops and civilians, even though the objective was putting a drill on a vault. If that's the case, then Overkill should implement missions that involve just purely shooting. Let there be more diversity of missions rather than grab this and take it to the van/boat/chopper.

Bottom Line: Payday 2 is a fun game to play with your friends and it has the high potential to be a superb and unique fps/rpg of 2013/2014... but it still has a long way to go. Let's just hope the expansions make this game what it realizes itself to be.

Payday 2 is breath of fresh air in a games market that is flooded with generic rehashes. Is it worth it for $30? I would say yes I, I have already logged 56 hours into the game which is more than I can say for some full priced games out there. However, connection problems are a big issue. Make no mistake this is a co op game, you will be sorely disappointed if you buy this to play by yourself and it's very frustrating when someone leaves mid way through your game and another person drops in and the load time can take a while and you have to just stare at your screen while the game is paused waiting for them to join, totally kills the mood. Also there is nothing worse than doing a 3 day heist and all of a sudden you lose connection to the host, all exp, loot and card drop opportunities wasted. Even joining a game can be a frustrating experience at times and these are the biggest issues with this game right now. I have not played much yet of game update 5 and that is because all these issues are still very much alive in the game right now.

I did have problems with crashes but since I disabled the steam overlay I have not crashed since so I'm happy about that but this game still needs work and more variety, it doesn't take long to start feeling pretty grindy and cash is no issue once you get to level 30 or so as you can't buy and attachments for weapons you can only get them in card drops which baffles me.

Stealth is pretty much worthless and not fleshed out at all, and even if you do get lucky and pull that bank heist off without alerting anyone the time you spent doing it would have been better spent going loud from the start and finishing the heist much quicker and moving onto the next one. No incentive or reward for stealth makes the stealth tree next to worthless right now which is disappointing.

If they can sort out these terrible network issues, rework Stealth so it actually becomes viable and throw in some cheap DLC that adds more variety to the game (a quick example would be that certain masks intimidate hostages more than others no matter what your spec is) this game COULD be well on it's way to being a solid 8/10 but it's just not there at the moment but the potential certainly is. A fun game to play with friends or just jump straight into it with randoms as I do but be prepared for some frustration and not much to do once you have put a decent amount of hours in it

It's a great game, you can do stealth missions, the payday community is awesome, if you don't have friend to play, you can meet new great people in multiplayer. The game is just a little repetitious, this makes the game a little boring after playing a lot of it, Overkill should put more maps by dlc or by updates (free dlc).

It's tons of fun to play with friends, but not so much with strangers, if you're lucky you can find some good people, but most of the time you will end up with a bunch of idiots who doesn't know what stealth means.
It also updates quite often, adding new heists and whatever the developers can think of in the future.

Payday 2 is very well executed crime heist FPS. With a few tweaks it could become one of the greatest gamesof all time (or at least that I've ever played).

    The Good:
    * Characters actually have character - great voice acting and styling for each one
    * Multiple modes of difficulty
    * Tracking your takings after each job is fun
    * Massive selection of weapons and gear
    * Regular updates - the game is well supported by its Devs
    * Every heist is very different and has an excellent supporting storyline/synopsis
    * Big sense of reward after completing a long job
    * Fair priced DLC that is only needed by the host of that heist - genius in my eyes

    The Bad
    * Crime.net is the games matchmaking system and it's terrible
    * Crime.net filters don't filter everything
    * Playing alone can take ages to find a good group
    * Cheaters (its a co-op game but still annoying)
    * Updates can take an age to download

Overall: Buy it in the sale! 7/10

And that's before you consider it's much more in-depth and varied skill and perk system, greater weapon variety and customization, additional playable characters, and excellent musical accompaniment. Regular updates have ensured that this game has earned and maintained a strong following from its players, though it has some of the most ill-behaved and ungrateful examples of such i've ever seen, who a distressing tendancy to auto-kick you simply for having the wrong equipment loadout, as well as other minor "infractions." A means to filter lobbies for either "loud" or "stealth" as a prefered approach is desperately needed. The game also has a bit of an addiction problem with paid DLC, though the fact the other half of the additional content has been completely free is also worthy of note. The game's core experience is very solid, with workable controls and a sense of thrill and challenge, especially with friends along for the ride, and combat that rewards player accuracy and tactical thinking. The game is plagued with bugs and network errors, however, with enemies regularly glitching through walls, famously awkward hitboxes on both the enemies and the players, and regular unexpected disconnects from both lobbies and in-progress games. Nonetheless I must extend Overkill a personal thanks for allowing me to play as Hoxton, my favorite character from the first game, after having to omit him at launch due to Pete Gold having other engagements. Having come from the much-maligned PS3 version of the game and its near-total lack of updates and additional content, the PC version hit me all at once, seemingly doubled in size from what it was at launch. Though a whopping twenty-five levels of Infamy (the game's prestige system, offering a few, paltry rewards for reseting your experience and cash progress) seems just a tad ridiculous, it does certainly seem the kind of game I would play long enough to reset at least once.

10/16/15 update: Regrettably, Overkill software has made the questionable decision to add loot crates and real-money keys a la Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to PAYDAY 2, after being quoted more then once they would do nothing of the sort. I believe these sorts of additions (along with the switch to a free-to-play format) ruined TF2 and attracted the wrong sort of players to that game, and I fully expect it to do the same to this game if this change is permanent. I am turning my review negative until this issue is addressed.

10/20/15: Overkill has responded to widespread complaints and made the drills a possible card drop, meaning the skins can be aquired without spending money. I am pleased with this outcome and am changing my review back to positive, as aside from that I still quite enjoy the game and the other Crimefest 2015 editions.

6/22/16: There's a good game in here somewhere. It just has too many DLCs is all.

There is no story, however you are asked to do heist missions and they are really fun to do... with friends only, because if you are playing this game alone then there is no point in buying it, this is for friends to meet together and have some fun otherwise this game will get old really fast.

The gameplay isn't really good, the shooting mechanic isn't satisfying like a good shooter, every guns feel the same, the customization isn't really good since you have to pay DLC for it, it falls flat and it gets annoying sometimes with the amount of policeman you have to kill...
BUT my favorite part of the game are the stealth missions, these missions make this game fun, where you have to communicate with your friends, everyone has an important job to do and when you complete the mission, it is the most rewarding moment for us.

I know that this game isn't really great, it has a tones of problems, the rating I give doesn't reflect the actual quality I think this game has, this rating just shows how much fun I had, I never had so much fun on an online game, I guess I can call this game a guilty pleasure.

Team work felt rewarding and there was always stuff to unlock and customize so it kept me coming back for ages, good soundtrack and thought-out characters. I feel like they added a bit too much stuff though as it was scary going back on after long periods of time because of all the changes. Some would see that as a plus. Although they added loot-boxes and micro-transactions after saying they wouldn't which ticked a lot of people off. The game-play is good, but it does feel money grabby now. Shame.

But it was visible how less and less players were connecting, and how imbalanced it had become. The game itself is very enjoyable, I still like it better than PUBG, CoD etc. The issue here is really one of principle - deliver on what you promise, or don't make promises.

What frustrates me most is the developers', OVERKILL's, behavior partially towards its community while it pretends that working with the community is one of its main focuses:
-Overkill has repeatedly claimed that its updates were motivated by the community even when clearly not the case, as in with CrimeFest 2015's attempt of implementing lootboxes or most rebalances.
-The newer heists, released in paid DLC have generally been well designed but not optimised at all, the community has released several mods for this, showing clearly Overkill just didn't put effort into it.
-Overkill's community management is generally poor and inconsistent, I got banned, appealed and the moderator blocked me before I could even respond to the blatantly false allegations.
-Overkill has put little effort into working with its large modding community in enhancing their experience or reducing the amount of blatant cheat mods.

Meanwhile PAYDAY's community has probably made thousands of mods fixing bugs, adding maps and guns, rebalancing or overhauling its game mechanics, while most mods are not that major, the game can still be made a lot more replay-able.

Overall the game is still fun and still has its great replay-ability, but Overkill generally hasn't really improved the game in a long time.

You do almost everything illegally in order to make money in various different missions
with there own unique maps and dialog. However most of the appeal in this game comes from the seemingly endless possibilities with the skill tree.

I'm sure if you've played more then 2 videogames you know what a skill tree is so ill just tell you the interesting part, the way you build your heister completely changes your style of play its no **** watchdogs skill tree.

For example you can have 4 sentries and turn the game into tower defense or you could not even engage with the cops and go all in on stealth, personally I use a LMG playstyle.

This game really shines with more then one person as most co-op games do its just not as fun solo
The lack of online voicechat really dose make it a "Play it with your friends" type of game.

I should also mention this game is very old and runs on a BAD game engine you will experience a little bug every now and then even in stealth mode.

I should also mention this game has a limited amount of Heists/missions but I still managed to get 100+ hrs out of the game but if doing the same heist over and over seems boring to you this isn't your game.

Also the ports SUCK only play it on PC.

Overall fun with friends, adds replayability through the skill tree, Minor bugs, Good gameplay loop.

I understand this game is intended to be a CO-OP game, but that doesn't mean it should be boring and even frustrating to play alone. The missions are obviously designed for multiple people, playing them alone can leave you lugging 6 bags from point A to point B one by one as your AI teammates will not assist you with anything except combat. On the topic of AI, even disregarding the atrocious allied AI, the enemy AI is equally as bad difficulty levels are lazy and don't add anything to the tactics enemy AI use, they simply do more damage and are harder to kill.

On a positive note, the game is remarkably fun with a few friends, even with the problems with enemy AI. It's fast-paced, exciting, and rewarding. The specialization skill trees are subtle enough to be reasonable and yet still feel like there's a difference in terms of your ability as any particular role.

Do the cons outweigh the pros? I'm not one to decide that, but this game has glaring issues that should have been addressed prior to launch. However, for a $30 game, it's most likely well worth your money if you have a few friends to play with.

The game is not horrendous. The actual gameplay is great. But dealing with Crime.net to get into a match is too damn tedious, and random loot destroys any reward incentive to work for or progress towards in the game.

The community gave you so many great ideas and not ONCE did anyone EVER suggest something was wrong with the old match making system, OR that a completely randomized loot system sounded like a great idea. That's absurd to even think.

What could have been one of the greatest games this year was destroyed by these two dumbass features. It was pretty unwise to "experiment" with your second game ever made. Look what you did! Great job guys!
Stop trying to force this failure of an idea down our throats and telling us "we will learn to like it" and just replace it before the hype dies out and no one will give it a second try.

Payday 2: over-hyped repetitive grind-fest, or a remarkable fun and enjoyable game? Read on..

Payday 2 has turned out to be a tremendously successful game. Pre-orders were almost sold-out everywhere while post-sales hit the roof, turning it into a instant commercial success for the small studio. Beta feedback has been positive on some fronts, and post-launch reviews have given the game a high-rating from some of the mainstream critics.

However it seems Payday 2 is now suffering post-launch blues, and has fallen into that developer trap. More on that later.

One of the reasons why Payday 2 has been so successful on launch is that it is, indeed, a really fun co-op game. There is no denying it. From that adrenaline rush you get pulling a bank job to the joy of managing to do just one job on full stealth. Payday 2 is surely best played with friends for maximum enjoyment, and isn't the sort of game you want to play with just random players.

So, why am I rating it a measly 6, then? Well, here's the thing; Payday 2 is a satisfying game on launch, and even after a day or so it still remains a satisfying game, but after the 3rd day you start to notice the faults with the game that creep out at you. It's this very reason why the game has been so successful with critics, and I would imagine they would review it a little differently further down the road.

To say the game suffers from repetitive play is an understatement. You soon realize that the pace of the game is slightly off whack. It turns into a massive grind-fest due to everything costing money. Fancy that red-dot sight you got in the lootbag dlc? Well, it costs in-game money to attach it to your gun! How about mask customization? Well, that costs in-game money as well. Leveling up? In-game money. Practically anything you do with your characters involves money.

Now, this wouldn't be so bad if the payouts were a little more balanced, but unfortunately the games current system forces you to grind repetitive missions with little room for change, making even grinding a bore fest.

Now, lets talk about that dev trap I mentioned earlier. I've seen this in other games, so I'll sum it up. A developer designs a game. It has a good concept, good working mechanics (crime.net, class/skills), a wide range of variety in assets (guns/mods) along with excellent customization (masks/guns) and the core concept relies heavily on repeated plays of maps. However, the developer only designs a few playable maps (7 or 10 I believe minus the safe-house). These maps are relatively small, with the so-called 'huge dynamic changes' as marketed being rather small and not worthy of note. Since the core concept of the game itself relies heavily on the maps themselves, the game becomes a tedious repetitive experience once you repeat the maps.

At this stage some things become apparent; there is only one bank map. There is only one map featuring stores. There is only one map featuring a jewelry heist. There is only one map of each specific genre of heist. Granted, there is supposed to be 30+ heists in the game, but they all take place on the same maps. It turns into a *steal X item profit* on the same maps, over and over again, with little changes that don't add anything to the game. A vault may be somewhere different. There may be 3 guards around the back instead of 2. All these changes are indeed welcome, but marketing it as huge changes isn't appropriate.

Playing the same maps over, and over, and over again, wouldn't be so bad if the actual heist mechanics were done right. Unfortunately, that's another area that they didn't design so well. Drills take a large amount of time, so much so that you just end up not drilling after awhile, it becomes a case of "I just can't be bothered to wait 3-4 minutes for this bloody thing", not even taking into account of how many times it breaks down. Repeat this process several times and even the most harden players will start getting bored.

Payday 2 does do some things right. Crime.net example is a good mechanic, while it suffers from shoving repeated heists down your throat, the idea itself is good and would work really well with more variety of maps/heists. The safehouse seems like a stale introduction, but it seems like Overkill has some plans for this later on, possibly in the form of some dlc.

However, unless Overkill is planning on introducing rather large map-packs in his DLC plans, I can't see Payday 2 playable longevity lasting long. Only after 3 days of playing I can tell you its become tiresome to play some of the same maps again, with the dreadful repeated soundtrack.

Payday 2 could have been so much better, but unless your a hardcore grindfest kinda player, you will soon grow tiresome of this rather enjoyable but flawed co-op.

    Summary:

    Graphics 6/10
    Soundtrack 4/10
    Sounds 6/10
    Gameplay 5/10
    Re-playability 4/10

The game did not ship with all of its promised features and constant updates of over 800 megabytes make it impossible to adapt to the game. Until Overkill can flesh out the undeniable problems that were both present in the beta and not fixed for the finished game.

PC players of the game are facing poor support from Overkill who refuse to acknowledge to "17 Heists, 30 Stages" promise, safehouse customization, and more. Instead, the developer would rather make certain officers even more difficult to kill and release an update that broke multiplayer.

In addition to these technical flaws, Overkill still has not made a singeplayer mode that is playable. In fact, a recent update made it even more difficult than it already was. Instead of a full team of four, you get two AIs. In addition to the smaller team, the AI cannot pick up loot bags (which the police can), open safes, steal generic loot, place bags, or use any semblance of intelligence to assist you. This state of "offline mode" is completely criminal, especially since the Multiplayer seems to be broken on a regular basis.

Even after all of that, the game still manages to entertain some vague aspects of cooperative play. You can coordinate with you team, capture hostages, and actually orchestrate the heist.

However, in the games current state and Overkill's attitude towards development, it will be an accomplishment if they can finish the game and fulfill the promises they made to their fans- even more so if the game can be stabilized.

People will expect you to know what to do right out the gate, and will quit at the slightest hint of the mission not going their way. Also if the host of the mission quits, and they will, the game will shut down completely, and you will lose all the cash, xp, and gear you should have gotten. The missions are also very repetitive. All bank jobs are of the exact same bank, the only difference is what is inside the vault. You will see the same problem repeatedly throughout the game. With friends the game gets an 8/10, but if you play this solo with randoms it gets a 6/10 Expand

The shooting mechanics are decent, but don't quite feel as tight as they should be. I really want to like this game, but it quickly turned into playing the same short missions because they were easy money. Expand

I had mixed feelings for this game, for a while I liked it a lot, but with the latest updates and DLCs I eventually made up my mind and uninstalled it. I've seriously grown tired of the company policy, they keep adding stuff and make the game harder without fixing bugs that are well known since the dawn of time.

    I'm going to explain...

Don't get me wrong, if we look at the gameplay/graphics/sound compartment the game is good, really good. You can customize your masks, your weapons, you can even build your carachter to be whatever you like and the music is damn good. All these things are major improvements over the previous chapter, well... except Hoxton speaking AmE instead of BrE.
There are, however, some problems that, in my opinion, have been deliberately ignored, some of them are gamebreaking and are the result of poor judgement from the devs.

I -FIRST- There are 21 missions, but many of them are staged in the same place, there are 5 bank heists that are simply identical, the only difference is the stuff you have to rob. You will play all these missions once and for the rest of the game you will keep playing the same 2 gamebraking heists: "Firesterter", that gives you a huge amount of money, and "Rats", that rewards you with a ridiculous amount of experience points. Since they are so rewarding they must be really hard to finish, right ? Well, Firestarter is quite hard, but Rats is so easy that you can finish it single player on the hardest difficulty in 5 minutes. So, you start farming these 2 missions until you get freaking bored and start thinking ... "why the devs don't give us more missions ?" There are already 3 DLCs, only one of them contains new missions; mission"S", yes with an ironic S, because you have to do the same thing in all of them, you can even consider them as one mission, only the map is different. Also, the game mechanic is always the same for every mission. 1. Open something with a drill, C4 or saw, 2. Grab what's inside, 3. Bring it to the escape point. No wonder this game is called "bag toss simulator 2014". At least Payday 1 had 2 missions with an hostage to escort; in payday 2 there is nothing like that, devs promised kidnapping mission but after 6 months nothing has come.

II -SECOND- The DLCs of this game gave me cancer. I bought one and it really was a waste of money. All I got was 4 more masks (that need to be dropped except for 1) a few new guns (all useless except one or 2) and the above mentioned "4" missions (with a chance to spawn a random hard-as-hell mission once in a blue moon). This was the first DLC, the second one was a punch in the eye and a spit in the face for every gamer; the devs made the game considerably more difficult with the update, almost unplayable at the highest difficulties, overkill difficulty is ... overkill ok, can't argue with that, BUT they included grenades in the DLC, which you have to pay for, while the infernal difficulty is for free, I see what you did there dear devs. Now, with the third DLC they included a new special enemy for free (increasing the difficulty again) along with the stuff you have to pay for. So... I have to say that this is enough, I know DLCs are optional and If I don't like them I shouldn't pay for them, but here... you're kinda forced to buy at least the granade DLC. Ok, I have to add this bit, the only free, "original" (yes that's irony again) mission is a bank heist, the "GO Bank" ... which is a copy-paste of a map from CS GO.

III -THIRD- At the end of each mission you get a reward, a random item that can be one of the following : weapon part, mask, mask pattern, mask colour, money, exp. Money and exp are totally useless since the amount given and the drop rate is very low; mask colours, patterns and masks are ... well, some are good while others not so much, so this is ok, i guess. Now, weapon mods are something frustrating, the droprate is so high that you will end up having more mods than weapons, masks, patterns and colours combined. Also, the chance to get an item you want is very, very, very low since there are thousands of items in the game.

    OK enough writing...

For the TL;DR ppl out there.

    1. Lack of balanced and new unique missions
    2. Almost laughable content inside DLCs; make money policy.
    3. Mmorpg farm / grind style, frustrating drop rates

NOT worth the price of 30€ let alone 45 (30€+ 3DLCx5€)
    Bought at 17€ + 1DLC 3€ and I kinda regret it.

This game WOULD BE at least 7/10, it has a lot of potential but the way it gets updated is irritating. It could be much much better if the devs focused on the important things, but for some reason they don't. I'm sorely disappointed.

The PC version of Payday is the best but it's really not all that. The heists overall weren't as memorable and the amount of DLC you had to pay for up until the Ultimate Edition? Way too much.

We never received 7 Day heists, the game is poorly optimized even on a 1070 I'm receiving drops below 60FPS, it's still a buggy mess, microtransactions came out of nowhere, pay to win skins, etc.

Sure there are a few memorable stages but it feels like a grindfest with horde survival gameplay.
Most of the game is just waiting for something to open. Stealth is just boring too.
Over 100's of hours poured into this game yet I never felt fully satisfied on what the developers could do. No updates really brought this game to the best it could've been.

Really only enjoy this game if you have friends and are willing to spend for it. It's not bad but it just feels incomplete and buggy.

Well..PD2 has changed to Pay2Win or show like so many other games. During the Crimefest event they added microtransactions for drills to open up Safes that drop at end of Heist. So back in 2013 Almir said no to microtransactions..until now. With 28 DLCs and I own them all and over 1800 hours playing I know what the game is and it always has bugs of some sort. DLC are one thing- you sort of know what you are getting, but in a safe - you have a CHANCE at 7-9 items..which you have no idea what which one...you might own them already. Will they make trading the safes at some time? Idnk, but probably not since it does not help Overkill When they update the game - the Modders of Hoxhud or Pocohud have to change their things to make the game 110% more enjoyable. Without them the game is sort of lame....they should have been incorporated a long time ago. Guards can walk through walls, fall through the floor to the next, jump up to the 2nd or 3rd floor ----Wow what power they have - that we do not. Some of the units you fight that do not have armor, but are basically harder to kill than most things- Cloakers and Tasers take way too much damage before going down...even head-shots do not kill them with 2 shots with a normal gun...that would in any other game. Sheilds can move and make you climb on top of their shields....which is really crazy when you see it. Bulldozers -3 different types have been introduced over the last couple years (Green, Black and Skull)...are the beasts to kill...Face plate shooting is paramount in quick kill. Different weapons are always introduced in the 28 DLCs that cost $4.99ea..so yeah, over $139 if paid retail for them. Wait until sale is on though...70% off.
Co-op players are varied- you can buy the weapon packs and DLCs and get the better guns, but now they added the Pay to buy the drill to open a safe drop - $2.50 each. So now they want more money...on a game that is about to be out of date. They have 1980's computers still on desks, signage from 2013 or 2014 still on the game. Not great graphics at all...only 6 basic car models throughout the game. except on Car Shop..that you can only drive in one heist..and they are not good. Basically the same 14 type people with same old clothes in every heist...doing the same boring things. Once you have the patterns down and the guards patterns - the game is easy - on DW stealth that is.
Many things could make the game better, but in Summer 2016- Payday 3 is supposed to be out...so I do not see much more coming to PD2.

This game was a lot better than I expected it to be before release. But it has some positives, but has even more flaws and that makes the game mediocre at best. If you find it fun, it will get old terribly fast, and this isn't helped by all the bugs it has. Oh boy, can't forget about those dumb microtransactions. God forbid if you can get everything by buying the game outright.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
