The only downside, as with many games, is a portion of the community. As of the most recent update, Payday 2 has added crates that require a tool to unlock, ala TF2's crate; this upset a very vocal minority of players.

More than two years ago, prior to the launch of the game, there were rumors that the game would contain microtransactions at launch. David Goldfarb, a director for the game who left over a year ago, stated that it would not have them, and that he hoped it never would.

A community manager by the name of Almir also posted that Payday 2 would not have microtransactions at launch, and clarified on the Steam page that these rumors were at the time false.

Two years later, a fairly long time for a game to remain profitable, the game has introduced weapon skins. Some of them do offer minor statistical stat boosts, while rarer ones will offer boosts similar to standard mod load-outs, but counter the actual usage of said mods. It has very little effect in the game, but a portion of the community feels betrayed.

Do not let this dissuade you from playing this game! Most of the most recent reviews are from this very vocal group. The game is still very fun and they are still releasing content for it, even two years later.

A great multiplayer co-op shooter. Personally, I don't care about the microtransactions. Pay2Win is not really applicable in co-op game. It's like complaining about other players playing on lower difficulty levels. That being said, they should add all of the current DLC into a discounted package.

Well it's a great game with a pretty good community. There is some DLCs but most of them are great. But Overkill dare add microtransactions and all the idiots are crying. Don't trust the haters.

People are annoyed by microtransactions but the truth is the game is still one of the best games on steam and you'll enjoy hundreds of hours on it before you get a chance to get bored.

People say that Payday 2 is a "Pay to Win" Game, but you don't need each and every dlc to play. You don't need heist dlcs to play that heist. If you can find someone playing you can join their lobby, you just can't start a lobby of your own with that heist, also the weapons. Even the free weapons are really good and diverse. You have lots of free stuff if you join the community group also. You get a handful of free characters to chose and Plenty of free weapons. You get 8/13 free heisters. If you own some of the games that overkill has worked with like Hotline Miami 1-2 and speedrunners you get more content from each game. The weapons. There is a lot of weapons. Some are meh but there is some really good ones out there for free that can be used. 41 base weapons you can use with 15 more weapons if you join the community for free. You also have 27 different free heists base game. Which you can choose to go stealth or loud on depending on how you feel on it. Anyway my work is done here. You can choose if you think Payday 2 is trash or not. I can't change your feelings towards it. Only you. GLHF Expand

This game has a great soundtrack that ties into the intensity of the things happening around you. The shooting aspect is solid, but not perfect. The ability to customize, the variety of jobs, enemies, characters, weapons, armors, modifications, masks makes this game one of which you can truly craft your own means of success and not use a cookie cutter build or style that another has made popular. The voice acting is good, and care was put into this games development (far more than the norm now days..) This game deserves a better rating and a more logical and loyal fan base.

The micro transactions are a gaming sin and there are a lot of them (not needed to play the game however, and i would NOT classify this as pay to win), the AI needs work, and the game needs better anti hacking measures. Other than that, the game is solid and that in my book grants it the 8/10 i would give, and not the 0/10 so many impulsive reviewers are giving it. Make a stand for things that are frowned upon in gaming but also give credit where it is due - this is not a bad game.

This is an amazing game and it's a shame that it's user score is so low because of one mistake that overkill made years ago that was fixed fairly quickly. I seriously recommend this game, I have spent many hours into the game and enjoyed almost every single one. Story and secret ending are fantastic too, although I won't spoil anything here.

Yeah, there are some graphical glitches, and the AI (both friend and foe) can be inconsistent, but not to the point of overly detracting from the game. This is a pretty complex game, so I can forgive the occasional burps, especially at the price.

There's even some heists you can do without tripping an alarm and having hell break loose. The core gameplay though is definitely shooting waves of cops as they try to take you down and take back hostages, until you die or you escape with cash, jewlery, drugs, guns, etc. Teamwork is key, especially for the higher difficulties, and that's what makes Payday 2 so much fun.

The DLC is for the most part optional, but adds a lot to the games, Like sniper rifles, and LMG's, but the heists are free, as long as you can find them or have a friend who bought it. They keep adding new content to it, a lot of which is free. They just announced 4 new heists, with Giancarlo Esposito, from Breaking Bad, as your handler, which is going to be awesome! Hopefully they'll do another web series, like they did for the pre release.

Payday2 is almost perfect, minus a few glitches and bugs, like cops spawning inside the bank in front of you, but they're few and far between. There also seems to be not enough heists, but they get randomized everytime you play them so it adds to the re playability, but It's still not enough for me. Besides that This game would be perfect.

A co-op FPS is what you're getting, nothing more, nothing less. While nowhere near the polish of what Valve would produce (do remember that very few studios have the backing to support Valve-level of polish), it is much better than Overkill's first try at this genre. (Which was not a bad start by any standard)

Most importantly though, (in my opinion) Overkill Studios have as of the date of writing this kept updating this lovely game on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Thus, most game-breaking bugs have been addressed as of now. More fixes and DLC have been announced which I am confident will address any concern some might have with limited amount of Heists.

As a co-op game it shines. Learning curve is pretty high, since there is no tutorial and the game is pretty complicated. You will have to learn the hard way, or with a helpful and experienced teammate who bothers to tell you how you play. But usually players who can't play get kicked.

Also been noticing that some people use certain missions to grind for levels, since some heists are easier than others and provide more rapid leveling up. That's too bad, since there is almost 30 missions.

It's not a full game in a sense. It's just a moderately sized co-op game with a lot of replay value. Gun play is better than in Payday 1, graphics better, missions more complicated and this time actually you can go all-stealth. I recommend this one, but only online.

The implementation of stronger RPG elements compared to PAYDAY: THE HEIST was fantastic and I actually feel my toon is more unique this time around (granted there are optimal builds right now, I believe Overkill will get this balanced as they genuinely listen to the fan base and make changes). The four classes are unique and varied and there are not enough skill points to take everything from every tree meaning you have to plan things out. The weapons this time around are more varied with TONS of attachments and modifcations between them all. The graphics are not Titanfall/Skyrim/The Last of Us pretty, but they are fantastic with good lighting and are not a burden on the GPU, memory, or processor making it easier to play for aging systems! HUZZAH! Character customization comes in the form of changing and tweaking your masks for the crimes (otherwise you play the 4 heisters from the webseries and that doesn't change) and it is a fantastic system that is easy to understand. THe missions are varied, unique, and fun that most can be either stealthed (which adds a GREAT ammount of challenge) or run n' gun'ed (which is still fun). The shooting mechanics IMO are some of the best in any video game out today. The recoil on weapons feels realistic and weighty which is matched by supurb sound effects that makes the weapons feel and sound real. Furthermore on weapons, this is one of the FEW games that actually made the weapons cycle, reload, lock bolts, and use bolt releases correctly MAJOR points for that! Great coop of course as that is the focus. Overkill actively supports the game, community, and listens to us grip and praise them. They shower the game with updates and changes and have promised a TON of DLC and further support so more longevity.

The bad, not a lot. Bad single player AI, just terrible, so stay online and you are good. Mission geometry randomization to me was not as varied as advertised and could be better adding further replay value. No tutorial for missions, you are going to have to learn on the fly so be ready and pay attention to the experianced players (as generally they are helpful, only met one player who was rude and called people F***ing retards).

Not a lot of bad, GREAT pro's for the game. Drop the cash and support Overkill, they made a true gem with this title and fullfilled the dream of every man on the planet, to commit a Heist!

Negative: I could only give it a 9 due to some pretty bad clipping errors in places and some of the issues with line of sight and mob behavior (getting shot through cover is irritating but happens rarely).

Replay value: 10 (You constantly replay heists but the dynamic layouts and the variability in difficulty, etc. make this game so very much worth replaying)

    - some bugs
    * civs screaming (!) behind wall you can't reach (GO Bank both sides of the map)
    - favors not explained at all
    - going loud on missions is a bit boring though, the cops fall on 1-3 shots but protagonists just keep going, even on deathwish (need REAL difficulty!)
    - Crime.net sucks, waiting for right job is not fun (you can buy any mission with offshore money though)
    - sometimes ECM don't seem to work (rare)? civs can call cops anyway (such as Bank heist, put 2 ECMs on both sides of bank and still someone managed to call)

I couldn't ask for more out of a co-op game. Overkill have taken Payday 1 and given it steroids. That means more heists, more guns, more customization, more enemies, more things to do.

    Absolutely amazing.

I really do like this game. I do wish they would add a bit more variety, and I do agree that the AI in single player mode should actually be able to do things. However, overall I really like this game. Great Lan game. The guns feel incredibly satisfying. Its worth the price.

The gameplay is pretty self-explanatory, you go into banks, nightclubs, harbors and etc. And rob the daylight out of them. This game can be pretty funny with some bugs that's been yet to be fixed.

The controls in this game is average, i would say it lacks the options for the video settings. And the vsync is this game adds in immense amount of input lag. (Use a 3rd party software like MSI AB to limit your FPS to 58/59).

The guns in this game, for now, lacks variety and it kind of gets really boring in higher reputation levels. If the upcoming DLCs would add in more weapons, there would definitely be awesome.

Some weapon modifications like the laser sight might be a bit too hard to acquire as they seem to never drop.

Masks are just plain cosmetics with really unique & nice customization options.

Now onto the A.I, different mobs have different roles and they would fight their way to get you. I won't say that the A.I is 10/10 but would give it a 7/10. It is not that bad that it sucks or neither horrible, but also, not as good and intelligent that it could really give it a real challenge.

To close it up here, this is a honest review unlike those some critics that just gives off some 'paid' opinions. For 29.99, this game out-beats most modern games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for an example (****ty one, yes).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What can I say that hasn't been said by many others. Payday 2 is a must buy for those that love tense co-op fps with exciting gameplay and strategy. The problem with The: Heist was that is was a bit too similar to Left 4 Dead, and it was maybe too safe with its design. Now the game is a lot more serious and a lot more tense.

Stealth is nail biting strategy for most heist's, and never an guarantee even when you are almost done with it. And when stealth is not an option or it failed, you better have an answer for the upcoming assault that really is trying to stop you in your tracks. The semi-random layout changes per mission really keeps this game becoming even close to repetitive. The rank up system has changed for the better, as well do the weapons. Now when you level up you receive a skill point and every 10 levels an extra. The points can be spent in 4 classes (Mastermind Enforcer Technician and Ghost) with the ability to 'ace' them and receive another bonus skill.

Weapons have been doubled and more. With over 10 primaries and secondaries to unlock and customize with add-on's. However, the game now only has 2 weapon slots instead of 3, probably to ad more challenge to the game, but more likely due to console release and a controller in mind.

The heist's are now in greater variety too. Ranging to your classic bank heist (with multiple vault containment's), to a coke securing mission towards cooking meth, trading it in for information, stealing it back, and rob the gang lord you traded with form his bus full of money. Some mission's require an arsenal of weapons instead of stealth, while others recommend stealth, because if you do not, then you're dead. Some heist's require multiple levels and day's, which will get you more experience and more spendable cash.

Should you successfully complete a heist at 'payday', aside from the money and the exp, every player receives a choice of 3 faced down cards. There are 3 types: A Mask, which can include a new mask, material, pattern or color. A weapon, which gives you a random weapon mod to use on weapons you can buy. Or a small stack of cash, which gives a bit more spendable cash. Speaking about spendable cash; Every dollar you get 'paid' with doing heist, around 90-95% goes to an offshore account which you can't access, and leaves the rest to you to spent on new masks, skill upgrades, new weapons or heist assets.

Are there problems with it, yes it is, but nothing that major like in the prequel. The AI-controlled players have not seen an upgrade at all, which makes me sad. It would have been nice to order them to open a deposit box, or go and fix a jammed drill, or even carry a bag back to the escape van. Enemies have the occasion to hide in the corner of rooms which makes it really frustrating when you lose a quarter of your health and more.

The game also features crime.net instead of the 'boring' lists of heists that are available for you to join, although it really works well to join games that are spread across the map, it does not work that well to set one up. The list should have been still here for that purpose. This might also have been done to prevent a limited form of card boosting, but it is annoying to wait until the exact heist with the exact difficulty to play, and not needed.

Verdict: 9/10 Why: Well not every game is perfect and this has some bugbears and nitpicks, but it never steals it away from the core and fun experience. Payday 2 is a must buy for 30,- for hours and hours of fun and big money making with friends

This is a fantastic game which has soaked up hours of my time (hours which I already struggle to find!). Ignore the whining and the trolls, and let me tell you why.

As someone who somewhat enjoyed the first game (although not overly so), I wasn't originally convinced completely by Payday 2. Nevertheless, the trailers and game-play videos eventually won me over and I put down for the Beta. I can honestly say I have not been so addicted to a game for a good many years and that was just the Beta! Having now played the full game, this is even better easily worth the £30 asking price.

First of all, the game-play is some of the best co-op gaming I've played in years. As a long time fan of co-op and stealth gaming, games like Splinter Cell and Hitman are some of my favourite games of all time. The stealth in this is fantastic, if only because of the amount of communication, thought, patience and observation it takes to pull off the perfect stealth heist. The tension in these moments is palpable, and with a good team, this can be some of the most rewarding co-op stealth to be found on the pc.

Obviously, someone will at some point trip the alarm, and this is where the second half of the game is revealed a heavy-feeling and very engaging shooter. The goals and deadlines keep the pressure up whilst the music is outstanding at adding atmosphere and urgency to the situation. In fact, the music in this game is one of my absolute favourite things about it a pumping mix of grungy synthy dubstep and fast-paced electro madness which suits the tone of the game perfectly, and which rises and falls in time with the pressure you are intended to feel.

Another element which represents a huge improvement over the original is the sense of progression in the game. The money you earn in each mission is partially determined by the risks you take, the teamwork you show, and the skills you have. It is a system which rewards playing as a team, and where a 'lone ranger' style of play la 'Call of Duty' will only frustrate your team and lose you money. The skill trees offered are very varied, and you will find evangelists who argue that each one is the best choice, but a huge part of the fun of this game is making money so that you can work up each tree and start to feel more valuable as a component of a team. Personally I chose Ghost (thanks to my stealthy roots), and I love being the one to type 'ECM jammer going down', and watching my team benefit from me being on the team and having the skills I have specialised in as they sneak past a troublesome security camera. Later in the game, another member of my team might pull out a saw, which will save all of us time, and ultimately help us to make more money. I value that person, and I am glad to be on their team.

The heists themselves are a mixed bunch some are genius, such as the gallery level (which is my stealthy favourite) and the awesome 'ukranian job'. However, Overkill loses points for sometimes repeating the levels in different heists. The only other criticism of the game I might agree with is the slightly enigmatic server lobby menu, which doesn't let you specify the level or difficulty you want to play, but rather forces you to wait for the heist you really want to pop up, ensuing in a mad scramble to be in the lobby before it fills up.

These two minor flaws drop the mark to an outstanding 9. The online community is generally very pleasant, the graphics are good, the game-play is outstanding, and the co-operative elements are well thought-out and executed. If you loved games like Swat 4, Monaco, Hitman or even Counter-Strike, I think you'll have a fantastic time with this one.

    ...and remember, cash is king.

Payday: The Heist seemed like a game that would be hard to usurp but OVERKILL went leaps and bounds over their initial expectations. Dynamic maps, mask and gun customization, a heist where your objective is literally to f**k sh*t up, there are very few things that you can take away from this game. Even when I get bored of it, I find myself coming back to it in a few hours or so. The only thing that's keeping this game from a 10/10 are a plethora of game-breaking bugs and glitches, which I'm sure will fixed in the coming weeks, thanks to the dedicated people at OVERKILL who release updates every weeks or so.
- A studio who actually listens to the community, which noticeably improved the game compared to Payday: the heist.
    - Incredibly rewarding. It just feels really good getting rewarded for doing something bad (stealing). Lots to unlock and customize.
    - Highly replayable. Randomized levels and situations.
    - Great potential for DLC packs in the future. Which they already announced to release in the future.
    - EVERYTHING has improved compared the first Payday title.

Buy it, and support this title, I feel the studio deserved it.

Unfortunately I did come across one major problem and I experience one minor problem. The major problem was that the video card I use doesn't support Payday 2, so my card needed to be hacked/modded to play the game (My game was not modded though). The minor problem is that my keyboard and mouse have a very short delay when playing the game, but I never really notice it until there is nothing to run away from. While a lot of people have complained about performance, I've only come across one or two crashes in my 60 hours playing. If you have a bad internet connection, or a slow computer, this may not play that well for you, but if you can play other multiplayer games on Steam, it should be fine. There are also not that many different heists that you can play, and all of them are unlocked at level 30, but the different ways to play them with different people keep each heist exciting enough to play a few times in a row. The only things more I'd ask of this game is more heists, customisable safe house (which Overkill talked about a lot leading up to the release), and host migration. Now I have over 40 hours on this game, and I love it. I just do,because the sense of progress is immense! You always have a way to spend your money, and you always have to raise the stakes in order to get what you want, and what you want might be a weapon,as specific mod,a mask,or even a skill to buy. Some skills need 1 million worth of spending cash in order to unlock them, and to do that,I went on an OVERKILL pro job, needless to say I was very tense as we all pulled out the bag of money from that cartel into our chopper with SWAT team's and riot control units showering us with led.
This game is on the "hard" side of shooters and that might turn some people off. To do a perfect heist, you need to spend over 15 minutes in the mission just waiting for the guards to come into the perfect position to be killed, and because they're patroll routes are random, you never know wheter he is coming behind or he is just around the corner, unless you are being helped by a friend controlling the camera. Another strong point besides the sense of progression is it's replay value. I think I robbed the same bank 30 times but I still can't get bored when cops come dropping down from SWAT helicopters on the roof of the bank. This game knows how to make something that looks repetitive into something new, random. The tech tree is a good incentive to keep playing, and if you are like me,you're going to want to try every class. For example I started off with the Technician, and once I got the C4 I thought why not change into another class? I transfered all the points from that class into the Enforcer witch has a huge saw as his primary weapon that can cut certain safes/door's/bars/atm's and even cops. The mask customization is a bit weird, because the mask's all feel kind of small, and it is easy to miss the badass red and blue skull while you rush the gold to your getaway van,but it feels right to have a sexy look while you rob banks. The mission's are somewhat varied, with only the bank heist mission having 5 different types, you go from stealing paintings for a well known politician to cooking meth for a cartel and then stealing it after they give you something. This game is fun with a friend, and the feeling of pulling off a dangerous 3 day heist and just see that cash roll is absolutely something I've never ever felt before. Some kind of reward for those 2 hours spend in front of the computer. All in all,it is a very good game and I encourage everyone to buy it. We are swimming in a sea of generic modern battlefield ops honour 7 shooter's in this age of today's gaming industry, but these type's of games that are somewhat "original" and at least try to bring in something new need to be supported.

    + Relatively cheap

Also the ability to completely stealth a mission is a great addition. Jumping in with 4 randomers or 4 friends is a really fun experience especially when everything goes wrong and you get tested to your limit on the hardest difficulties. I really do love this game and the overall experience so I tend to look past some of the bugs that are still part of the game but with active devs constantly rolling out new fixes and updates for free I'm sure that this will be a thing of the past in no time. Another reason is, that the classes aren't balanced in such a way an enforcer class might be useful in a stealth mission and visa versa with a ghost class (They are trying to fix this tho).

Playing with randoms is still very fun and all but if you have some friends that would all get together and play, this game makes what I think is one of the greatest CO-OP games out there. Each player can customize accordingly to how you want to tackle the mission, loud and easy or stealthy, but tricky. Being able to stealth a full mission really does feel like an accomplishment and something to be proud of, if you can pull it off. But if you go loud, be sure to bring friends that differ in skill. A technician can easily blast open doors and most safes and can quickly get you inside, and an enforcer can use there Portable saw to quickly break open deposit boxes to grab the loot and run. A ghost can much easier stealth missions, obviously, and a mastermind is just a great thing to be. My decision: Grab some friends you can play with, buy this game.

    Menu/UI - 5
    Singleplayer - 6
    Multiplayer - 7 to 10
    Overall Gameplay - 9

After reading reviews, I was very hesitant to buy Payday 2, because of numerous reports of crashing and a several reviews stating that it was just a disappointment. When it went on sale, I picked it up and gave it a shot. My first impression was that the game was okay, but nothing special. It remained that way until I gained a few levels and improved my gear, but it was mostly due to my beginning multiplayer.

Singleplayer is definitely lacking. Although you can play with bots, the AI is terrible and the bots are virtually useless except for occasionally helping to kill or helping you up after you've been downed. Aside from that, they make okay mean shields. Multiplayer is where this game shines... kind of.

I really enjoy co-op games, and Payday is the epitome of co-op. There's much to be done, and without teamwork, you won't get far. Hostages need to be controlled and tied up, safes, vaults, ATMs, registers, and cabinets need to be emptied, and cops need to be killed before you're all busted - assuming someone calls the cops. Although difficult, many levels can be finished without the cops ever being involved, depending on how well you can stealth around and avoid detection and/or control hostages. The Payday 2 community is surprisingly friendly. First person shooters tend to draw kids and immature adults. You will likely encounter a few of those, but despite the lack of moderation (no dedicated servers), I've played with complete strangers for a week without a single person having sex with my mom or beating me up IRL, but as with any game there is no shortage of bad players and the occasional mic-spammer (that you CAN mute). Overall, the multi-player mode is incredibly fun if you enjoy co-op FPS games and the idea of pulling off movie-like heists is appealing but you don't wan to get killed or spend your life in prison.

Leveling, just like other games, starts out very quick so you don't get bored, but then slows down, capping out at level 100. Also like many other games, each level awards you skill points that you use to improve your character, allowing you to choose a skill tree that fits your style of play and makes you valuable to the team. These trees are:

Mastermind - A group leader of sorts, providing health packs, hostage intimidation, enemy intimidation (allows you to convert hostages AND cops to fight on your side), extra stamina for you and your team, and many other skills that directly benefit your team.

Enforcer - This is your warrior tree, giving you access to the highest level of body armor, ammo packs for the team, increased health, etc. This is your best bet if you're a guns-blazing type of player.

Technician - The technician tree gives you access to cool gadgets like a placeable automatic sentry that will pretty well destroy any enemies within range, trip mines, and improvements to your (and therefore your team's) ability to get into safes, vaults, ATMs, etc. The technician's tools aren't always quiet, but are effective.

Ghost - This tree doesn't need much explanation, he has tools to render cameras useless and break into ATMs without making noise, he can silently kill guards and hide bodies to avoid detection, move faster, fall further, pick locks quickly, and other abilities necessary to stealth through a heist.

Now that I've covered what I like about the game, here's the annoying stuff. First, the servers are all player-hosted, and some of the heists are multi-day and the pay out is always on the last day, and if the host leaves, you get experience for day 1, but no money because all of the pay is given after you finish the last day of the contract. Ideally, if the host leaves, another player should become the new host. People don't mind waiting for a minute for the game to move to a new host if it means they can finish the contract and didn't just waste 10-45 minutes because the host left before the payout.

Next, the menu system isn't always intuitive. It's not unusable by any means, and most can certainly figure it out, but it's not great and could use a redesign or at least some polish.

You can't shoot through ANYTHING. It's irritating to see an enemy and be unable to shoot them until you shoot the glass out, or to see the helmet of an enemy sticking up just slightly from behind a thin obstacle like a plastic newspaper dispenser and they can't be shot because you keep clipping the corner of the obstacle. I'm not expecting to blast through plate steel, but an assault rifle or high-powered pistol should shoot through at least sheetrock or glass, etc.

Hackers - they're on your team and not too prevalent, but they do exist and can be annoying if you can't play the game because they noclip through it all in 2 minutes.

Overall, the game is very fun and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys co-op shooters.

Payday 2 for those who don't know is a game in which you play 1 of 4 criminals who are on an epic robbery quest of Washington DC. This game is one of, if not best co-operative games I have every played. Part of what makes this game stand out inPayday 2 for those who don't know is a game in which you play 1 of 4 criminals who are on an epic robbery quest of Washington DC. This game is one of, if not best co-operative games I have every played. Overkill software did an amazing job on Payday the Heist (Their previous title for those who don't know) and is also one of my favorite games. Part of what makes this game stand out in co-operative games is that the developers didn't just add multiplayer in and slap the word co-op on it, which games like Sniper Elite Nazi Zombies have done: Just shooting zombies and nothing else is not co-op, its multiplayer, playing with other individuals, but they dont NEED to be there. In Payday 2, you need other players there because of the new skill system in which certain items can only be unlocked through a certain tree with a certain skill, like the saw or C4 charges which cannot all be handled by a single person. In payday the Heist, after enough gameplay, you would unlock every single thing, and preparing would just feel the same for pretty much all your missions. The payday 2 skill point system allows the player to customize their play style and place points into any of the four skill trees: Mastermind, Enforcer, Technician and Ghost. You can "Ace" points to unlock more skills with more points as well. This means you actually feel like the character you are creating means something, and is not just 1 big 100% completionist run of all the trees like the first game.

The weapon customization system is now much more improved, allowing you to put attachments of choice onto guns to increase combat stats for all-guns-blazing or more easily concealed attachments for stealth missions, another aspect the first game lacked. The stealth has been very well improved, now with the detection meter during stealth, and actually being able to disable guards rather than have all 12 in the Diamond Heist (A mission from the first game) walking around and instantly being detected if one saw you. Overall, Payday 2's stealth is excellent and a huge improvement to the series.

The missions in this game are well designed, but just not as over-the-top fun as the first game. The first game's bank heist was a huge bank set in NYC called "First World Bank" with a huge vault behind many doors: a well designed and fun heist that took around 15-20 minutes to complete, even if the drill was just pathetic.

Payday 2's bank heist is a small bank in Washington DC named "Harvest & Trustee" with the vault in the open, about a 10th of the size of FWB, but the outside more detailed and civilians walking around. It can be completed LITERALLY in 7 minutes You see where i'm going with this one? The heists in this game aren't as good as the first games huge, OTT, blowing bridges up, robbing hospitals and beating up Matt heists (Play heat street in the first game and you'll get it) but Payday 2 does have a lot of fun heists and this doesn't take away from the experience as much as you may think from this description.

Last thing to talk about, the AI, oh god i guess i couldn't avoid this section, well here we go; The AI in this game is honestly some of the worst I've played with in games, not the worst, but its still up there. First of all, if your getting someone up, the AI will not realize that you are already doing so and just join in, possibly getting all the team members shot up. They also run into the open and sometimes ignore the SWAT and just stand there getting filled with bullets until they are downed, all taken into custody, mission over, start from the beginning, which is even worse when you need help getting up. This is the main thing I think overkill needs to improve on and I hope they do so in the future.

So to conclude, Payday 2 is a real stand-out game which has a few minor problems, but are easy to look past, and you'll find an experience fulfilled by no other game, a solid 9/10 from me, If you like action games, Just buy it.

PayDay 2 is one of the nicest surprises of the year. Overkill Software understands the atmosphere of gangster movies and wisely improves these pieces of gameplay, that might have been disappointing in the first game. The sequel is better in almost every way - you can play a thief and enjoy good character development and shooting systems. I really hope, that PayDay 3 will be even better.
