Dec 3, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 is another stellar entry in Square Enix’s HD-2D series that rivals not only the wonders of 2, but some of the best 2D turn-based RPGs out there.
-
Dec 3, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 shows that this game series still has serious legs. It has the most content in the series, the most playable characters, and some of the grandest moments.
-
Dec 3, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 is a solid experience that blends new systems with established elements of the series. The expanded combat, large cast, and rebuilt village add variety, while the narrative, despite relying on clichés and featuring shallow antagonists, still delivers some interesting moments. The artistic direction remains charming, and the soundtrack is excellent, though the technical side and visual scope are more modest than those of the other games in the series. Overall, the game feels like a title that introduces some new features but remains comfortable within its own formula. This isn't necessarily bad: fans of classic JRPGs will find a competent, engaging, and enjoyable adventure here, though it doesn't push the boundaries. Octopath Traveler 0 may not elevate the franchise to new heights, but it preserves what fans love—and sometimes, that's enough for a good journey.
-
Dec 3, 2025A tremendous score, blurry textures at higher resolutions, and an unevenly paced narrative make Octopath Traveler 0 a mixed experience, but one that punches up when it needs to. A comforting experience that I won't soon forget and one I recommend to those looking for something warm and comforting.
-
Dec 3, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 boldly reshapes the franchise by focusing on a single protagonist, delivering a far stronger and more emotional narrative than its predecessors. The refined combat system, now allowing eight characters in battle, adds welcome tactical depth without abandoning the series’ roots. The HD-2D visual style remains beautiful and timeless, even without major evolution. However, the lack of Portuguese localization and the persistent issue of overly frequent random encounters hurt the overall flow. Even with these flaws, it stands as the best and most mature entry in the series so far.
-
Feb 6, 2026Octopath Traveler 0 is not a bad game, but the silent protagonist and somewhat impersonal party diminish some of its narrative impact. The individual storylines compete in their darkness and at times push the drama unnecessarily far. However, new features such as village building and the addition of two combat rows refresh the proven formula, resulting in an addictive and entertaining JRPG that can easily provide dozens of hours of enjoyment.
-
Dec 5, 2025A solid and generally satisfying experience, especially for those who haven't played the mobile version, but marred by a scandalous lack of localization.
