Dec 3, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 is another stellar entry in Square Enix’s HD-2D series that rivals not only the wonders of 2, but some of the best 2D turn-based RPGs out there.
-
Dec 3, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 is an unparalleled role-playing game about trauma, loss, and rebuilding. This is the best JRPG in years—and it's also an excellent cozy game.
-
Dec 3, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 shows that this game series still has serious legs. It has the most content in the series, the most playable characters, and some of the grandest moments.
-
Jan 5, 2026A quality jRPG with good value for money that does enough things well to earn a comfortable purchase recommendation.
-
Feb 6, 2026Octopath Traveler 0 is not a bad game, but the silent protagonist and somewhat impersonal party diminish some of its narrative impact. The individual storylines compete in their darkness and at times push the drama unnecessarily far. However, new features such as village building and the addition of two combat rows refresh the proven formula, resulting in an addictive and entertaining JRPG that can easily provide dozens of hours of enjoyment.

Jan 30, 2026Octopath Traveler 0 is a fantastic JRPG in terms of its gameplay, story, and characters, but unfortunately, due to its excessively long playtime and a gameplay loop that lacks variety, it’s not a game I can recommend to everyone.
-
Dec 10, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 is a curious game- as a sequel to Octopath 2, it’s more steps down than it is up but considering its origins as a mobile game, I’m very glad they decided to give it the single player game reimagining as the story is one well worth experiencing and the system of fielding all eight characters at once is something I’d like to see explored further in the true sequel.
-
Dec 9, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 offers a different structure from its predecessors, with gameplay that sometimes stands out significantly, usually in a good way. Even though there are many clichés of the genre and no real freedom is offered, the story manages to be touching when it needs to be. It doesn't shy away from tackling difficult themes that you wouldn't expect given its artistic direction. It's another successful addition to the series, although it's a shame that various overlooked aspects detract from the overall result, such as the lack of French localization and slightly inferior graphics.
-
Dec 8, 2025Octopath Traveller 0 can't quite live up to the peaks of the previous two games, but is a fantastic RPG in its own right.
-
Dec 3, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 boldly reshapes the franchise by focusing on a single protagonist, delivering a far stronger and more emotional narrative than its predecessors. The refined combat system, now allowing eight characters in battle, adds welcome tactical depth without abandoning the series’ roots. The HD-2D visual style remains beautiful and timeless, even without major evolution. However, the lack of Portuguese localization and the persistent issue of overly frequent random encounters hurt the overall flow. Even with these flaws, it stands as the best and most mature entry in the series so far.
-
Dec 3, 2025Far from being the pointless rehabilitation of a gacha game lost in the chaotic mess of mobile app stores that any discerning observer might have expected, Octopath Traveler 0 actually stands out as the most accomplished entry in the series to date. By unifying its narrative, expanding its storylines, and embracing even more poignant thematic ambitions than those explored in Octopath Traveler II, this prequel distinguishes itself through the (admittedly belated) realization by the team behind the OT series that an RPG is, above all, the art of storytelling. Unfortunately, its combat system remains imperfect, its balancing questionable, and the lack of a French translation will undoubtedly be a source of frustration (and rightly so). However, while these flaws are real, they fail to overshadow the fact that this is a truly unexpected success.

Dec 3, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 is a solid experience that blends new systems with established elements of the series. The expanded combat, large cast, and rebuilt village add variety, while the narrative, despite relying on clichés and featuring shallow antagonists, still delivers some interesting moments. The artistic direction remains charming, and the soundtrack is excellent, though the technical side and visual scope are more modest than those of the other games in the series. Overall, the game feels like a title that introduces some new features but remains comfortable within its own formula. This isn't necessarily bad: fans of classic JRPGs will find a competent, engaging, and enjoyable adventure here, though it doesn't push the boundaries. Octopath Traveler 0 may not elevate the franchise to new heights, but it preserves what fans love—and sometimes, that's enough for a good journey.

Dec 3, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 is the type of game that sneaks up on you. Maybe it isn't immediately obvious what makes it great, even if the deficiencies are impossible to ignore; every now and then something will stick out like a sore thumb that betrays what the game originally was, even if that's not necessarily what the game is now, in its current form. When taken on its own merits, Octopath Traveler 0 is the type of RPG you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else - and a fascinating case study in how, much like Final Fantasy prior, Octopath Traveler can reinvent its core elements while still maintaining an identity as a franchise.
-
Dec 3, 2025A tremendous score, blurry textures at higher resolutions, and an unevenly paced narrative make Octopath Traveler 0 a mixed experience, but one that punches up when it needs to. A comforting experience that I won't soon forget and one I recommend to those looking for something warm and comforting.

Dec 3, 2025OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 is a damn good JRPG. The world, despite my grievances with the main story, is interesting and fun to explore when the game lets you. Wishvale’s rebirth’s best parts aren’t the uninteresting city building but, again, the stories of the characters within. With great music and visuals accompanying all this, you can’t go wrong with SQUARE ENIX’s latest turn-based title.
-
Dec 11, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 introduces a new town building system to its endless turn-based battles, but doesn't innovate much outside of that. Combat feels fun and powerful, but with this being the fourth game in the series, it could use a touch up. In the end, Octopath Traveler 0 is an incredibly enjoyable JRPG, but one that feels like it's just spinning its wheels at this point. Town building is fun, but ultimately shallow.

Dec 3, 2025Octopath Traveler 0 is a game I'm glad I spent time with, even if it made me sigh as often as it made me lean forward. It delivers some of the series' most memorable moments, both in how it tells its story and in how it lets you build a small corner of its world through Wishvale. At the same time, its constant cutscenes, uneven rewards, and reliance on the illusion of choice keep it from reaching the heights it seems so close to touching. For every moment I was absorbed by its atmosphere or impressed by its combat, there was another where I felt the game tug me back into a pace that wasn't my own. Even so, there is a sincerity to this entry that stuck with me. It might not be the total reinvention some fans hoped for, but it still carries the heart of the series, and that was enough to make the journey worthwhile.
-
Dec 5, 2025A solid and generally satisfying experience, especially for those who haven't played the mobile version, but marred by a scandalous lack of localization.

Dec 3, 2025I have completed the main 'Master of' quests, but I have not yet reached the conclusion of the story. Based on the compelling narrative, the excellent eight-character combat overhaul, and the meaningful addition of the Masteries system, the game currently sits as my personal favorite entry in the series. The ultimate score will depend heavily on the payoff of the final narrative act and whether the combat holds up against the toughest challenges. [Review in Progress]
