Terrible game - please do not buy!!!! This is the most boring game ever.

You do the same thing OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

There might be lots of planets but they're all exactly the same! Even the alien buildings on EVERY planet are a copy-and-paste job, with a single alien in the exact same place each time who doesn't even move.

This game did NOT live up to expectations. it's over hyped and didn't deliver what it promised. Awful graphics, I got a pretty good PC and this game just refuses to give me a decent fps. The gameplay gets so repetitive you don't even know what's the point anymore. I admit i was really hyped for this game....guess i shouldn't have.

Spent a good few hours with it now and it does have that tiny bit of appeal that just wants to you keep going, just one more little discovery here and there before I leave the planet or even think about moving onto another system.

Runs just okay (I have fairly old hardware but not ancient) however for what it is I'd have expected better personally (I mean Ark: Survival evolved runs a lot better than this at twice the resolution lol) while being 10 times prettier and with probably 100 times more colours in its palette). It sure isn't going to win any princess awards but that isn't to say it's ugly but at best it's maybe the average girl you knew at school.

In playing it though I found it was a lot more involved than what I thought it would be in some areas while also not being very deep or as engaging as I had hoped for in others. The ships handle like crap forcing you upwards if you dare aim too high (no mofo, I don't wanna leave the planet just yet) and also preventing you from just hovering around at stand still when you're actually just wanting to scout specific areas on a planet (this works okay once in space though).

The inventory management is just pretty awful with UI that shifts beneath your movements (I'm using a mouse but I believe it's true of all control versions) and if you're comparing ships with large inventories (and then trying to move stuff across) it just cuts off a bunch on the sides. Another minor issue is that I constantly get a reminder to redeem my pre-order DLC for a ship that is far worse than the one I have now (I just didn't want any special bonuses at start you see).

Overall though I've enjoyed some bits and found that perhaps like others I had just gone in with unrealistic expectations. This would have been okay with it coming it at half of it's current asking price but at a full priced AAA game I feel it's just a pure cash grab primarily driven with Sony being at the back door (as usual) pushing it far more than it deserved to be.

The FOV settings don't actually give you the angle that you expect so instead you'll have to resort to editing one of the config files if you want anything that closely even resembles what should be standard on PC (i.e. I set mine at 125 which is probably closer to 90). Having to hold in your action button (left click) to change settings is also just stupid - I'm okay with this for the in game activation stuff but on the settings screen when you first start it's absolutely stupid.

The map just sucks too. So you move your mouse along to the path to highlight a direction and if you move too much before you know it it'll have jumped along to the next system again in that path (so very obviously created primarily with a controller in mind).

A neat sort of little trick I found was sprinting and then using the jetpack just before you run out of stamina...jetpack in bursts (while at the same speed that you were running at) to keep from getting to high and then just as you land toggle the sprint again. Still awfully slow if you've wondered too far from your ship and that's probably one of the things that helped for the boredom to set it quicker than what it should.

Blah blah blah I've gone on too long. It's okay to mess around with and maybe it'll get better later on but right now it's no where near worth the current asking price.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

    Pro :
    - Endless Universe to explore
    - Immersive Environment and just something new

    Cons :
    - Lack of Content (The game is about 2.5gb big as download file which doesn't change once installed - so you find out quite fast that this Game really doesn't offer that much of a variety.
    - Aliens look similar
    - After 5 hours you saw almost all ships you can get/buy, they only differ in upgrades, style and price
    - The "uploading" feature doesn't do anything besides give you credits. If you deny firewall access to this Game you can upload everything again after restarting the Game. It doesn't really upload anything, they could've named it "claim for discover" rather than upload.
    - Graphics are just terrible, just take a look at the ground it looks like someone threw up on the ground and was too lazy to clean it up
    - Plants, Rocks, Planets itself look almost same, just color difference
    - Biggest problem : Inventory size, you find yourself collecting stuff from loot boxes, yeah and then surprise they don't stack. You ship is full in the first 20min, so is your suit inventory. I found myself running around for like almost an hour before i could fix my starter ship to get off the planet.
    - The handling of the ship is terrible, you dont really want to use a and d otherwise you find yourself spinning like crazy.
    - Running feels like walking, walking feels like slow motion
-You can't even use the word "optimized" because it is just not. It's 30 fps capped upon first launch with low settings along side. I got a pretty decent pc and i face freezes, fps issues and bugged textures all over the place.

So in comparison this Game looks to me like an unfinished Tech preview of the Game. If you play it for like 2 hours you will ask yourself - "is that really it". This Game is just not finally done, but sadly it is. You can even harvest plants. You must shoot everything with your lazer which overheats like an cpu without cooling.

Full price worth? No definitely not, not even half price is worth. 15-25€ seems okay but still not fair for an 2016 Game which was hyped so hard.

Wait for an price cut, or get a pirated version since this Game (and the whole development) doesn't deserve this money. They first advertised this Game as mmo-based multiplayer which got played down and finally simply just edited in steam as "singleplayer".

Please, i hope they don't ever create a Game again.

    Ok so onto the review:

How best to describe No Man's Sky? Well imagine if Spore and Minecraft had a really pretty baby. Unfortunately you cant build anything and are limited to crafting for upgrades so that baby is a bit handicapped but it's visually superior to both its parents. Not to mention the game world is HUGE, even on any individual planet. And no the planets are not exactly alike, if you've invested any decent amount of time into this game youll actually find some amazing variations. So far I've discovered a cold tundra world, a beautiful tropical world with red grass and water with aquatic lifeforms, a highly irradiated world with scarce amounts of fauna and flora, a volcanic world with predators, a toxic rain world and a beautiful green jungle world with some interesting land crustaceans. The surface buildings all look very similar but people seem to forget the fundamental focus of this game - exploration of the natural biomes. The buildings are recycled because theyre only meant to act as checkpoints and supply caches for your journey.

Now onto the space exploration. The space battles with pirates can be frustrating if youre not looking for them, especially as the only way to run is to jump to another system, and in order to recharge shields you have to do some menu fiddling and need a good supply of oxides. However, upgrades will make things easier and once you get past the bumps these battles add extra bit of content you needed moving from one planet to the next, and some nice material reward to go with it. The ship controls arent as good as elite but mining is a lot less frustrating since all the resources come to you automatically. The space stations themselves are all the same, but if you've played Elite Dangerous like I have, this is nothing new and to be expected. Again space stations are just a safe hub, theyre not the focus of the game, although admittedly they could be more varied like Elite. Space itself is not at the scale i was hoping for (again Elite did this better) - planets should not be this close together and space isnt this rocky, although this game doesnt label realism as a selling point so i can forgive this. My favourite about space is the seamless transition onto a planet. Landing on a planet seamlessly from space truly gives you a feel of scale, and, whilst somewhat overwhelming, its well-executed (providing your rig can handle it without exploding into a stuttering mess).

Ok so lets give a pros and cons breakdown.

    Pros:
Beautiful scenery, beautiful unique planets if you invest the time to find them.
Unique wildlife everywhere, including aquatic, land and airborne lifeforms, with great size variance.
Space gives a satisfying amount of depth and some content to distract you between planets.
The Atlas storyline route gives a primary focus and seems to reward the player with more interesting worlds so recommend following story route.
Exploration pays off if you invest the time into finding wildlife and waypoints. This should be your secondary focus, and you may find some interesting things along the way.
The crafting and upgrading system gives you a tertiary focus, so there's always things to do, even if its just collect materials.

    Cons:
Performance issues with vsync. I recommend turning off, maxing your framerate, turning on nvidia's vsync and tweaking graphics until the issue is resolved.
Crash on startup. Havent experienced this myself but Hello Games are working on a fix. It happens, no need to give a 0 for it but the devs should have been prepared.
Space scale isnt as good as elite's.
The ship handling is somewhat clunky.
    Buildings and stations are recycled.
The draw distance isnt great (might just be my graphics settings), you will constantly see rendering of nearby scenery everywhere you go, which takes away from the beauty a bit.
Some lacklustre texturing but given the scale I can forgive this.
No real tutorial - although not too difficult you're left to figure out a lot by yourself.
    Requires a hefty time investment.
Collecting the materials to warp to another system is tedious given the scale of the universe (at least in early game)
Lacklustre trading system. Ok so there are fluctuations from the galactic average but given the difficulty in finding materials to warp and lack of trade information for other systems i cant really see a benefit to playing this game as a trader, since every warp is a gamble on your cargo value.

    Final verdict: 7.

PS: If you're complaining that there's nothing interesting to do, you probably lack imagination or an appreciation of beauty, and you bought this game for the wrong reasons and clearly didnt do your research.

I love exploration games. Flight Simulator, Train Simulator, Minecraft, Creativerse, 7 Days to Die, Fallout 4 the GTA franchise even Starbound. I can spend hours just wandering around looking at what the game or developer generated for me to explore.

No Man's Sky is pretty much the ultimate version of that type of game. With 18 Quintillion world in just one (of possibly many) galaxies, there is just no limit to my exploration bug.

World generation is crazy, making Minecraft look tame, The creatures and plants that live on these worlds are straight out of 1960's SciFi book covers and comic books.

There is even an underlying story to the four major races in the game (if there are four, I have only found one so far).

If I had any complaints, it would be inventory management or the early lack of inventory space is a pain. However I could say the same for pretty much every game I mentioned above. You can fairly quickly start increasing those spaces by finding objects on the planets that will increase your suits inventory.

A nit pick would be that planets usually don't bunch up together like they have here. There should be planets all around their star. I should have to fly past the star to get to planets that might be on the other side. Not the case here. They are all pretty much bunched up together. Physics wouldn't allow this, but hey. It's a game not a true simulator.

That's really it. The fact that there is probably one one "hand drawn" object in the game, the main alien races mentioned earlier. Everything else is put together by the game, Ships, Multi-tool guns, plants, animals, planets, everything. So far, they all look fantastic.

If you are into Minecraft, Creativerse, 7 Days to Die, you will be dropping those games in favor of No Man's Sky for quite some time. I absolutely recommend this one!

I dropped an 8, but that could easily go up if they increase the complexity of the crafting system. Currently it feels a bit on the shallow side, and the only upgrades are basically inventory upgrades that get chewed up by mods.

Other than that, NMS is all about exploration and joy of travelling. The scale is awesome, the world is fantastic and it gives you countless exploring opportunities. Although at times it may feel you are doing the same things but with a different skin, what hello games accomplished with such a small team is quiet a thing for itself. Other than exploration majority of time is spent either completing game's man quest (finiding center of galaxy) or upgrading yourself through farming material. Beyond this due to lack of multiplayer content the game doest have much to offer, sadly there arent much of survival mechanism in the game such as outpost crafting and so on. The Universe could be so amazing, rich with activities and things to explore. What we get is a dull and repetetive item grind with planets which all look the same. Honestly the game became boring after just half an hour.

I thought this would be a full game, but it is merely an experiment which reached a dead end for $60. I would say, stay clear until price drops significantly. Watching

I wont talk about poor port (even though they lied that this game is developed for pc and then ported on ps4, there is proof that its other way around).

This is the most boring game in 2015-2016 season (even worse than fallout4). After exploring one planet, which takes less than 2 hours, you've done everything there is to do in this game = walk, mine and take pictures. This game

This game might be 18 quintillion planets wide, but also 1 feet deep = all you do is walk, mine and take pictures, nothing more at all!

This game seems like 20eu indie game that got boosted by sony's marketing team.

avoid buying by any means, it is not worth 60eu not even close

Отвратительная во всех смыслах игра, в контексте надежд которые она подавала, в ней плохо просто все.

The concept behind the game is great; you explore the universe, uncovering all these planets and diverse life forms. Where the game falls flat on it's face, however, is the execution. I have put around 10 hours into this game, 16 if you count the time i played on PS4, and after that much time I have found the initial sense of excitement from finding these planets and species has faded. The concept behind the game is great; you explore the universe, uncovering all these planets and diverse life forms. I have put around 10 hours into this game, 16 if you count the time i played on PS4, and after that much time I have found the initial sense of excitement from finding these planets and species has faded. You eventually start recognizing similarities between all of them. This is made worse by the fact that the variation in the planets is small, with the only major change in a lot of them being a swapped pallet. That isn't to say the game isn't aesthetically pleasing, it is honestly beautiful, but the lack of variation makes it feel very repetitive very fast.

On top of this, the PC version has major issues. It runs horribly on some very capable machines. It is not well optimized at all and is riddled with bugs that cause it to be unplayable for many.

I regret that I paid $60 for a game that is the quality of some early access beta (or alpha even).

An offensive, hideous score for an offensive, hideous PC release.
After waiting for two years, I was presented with a stutterfest of Arkham / JCause 3 proportions, that is, for all intents and purposes, unplayable due to hideous performance.

The game play is not the problem, though that's not worth 59.99, maybe worth 30 bucks.

The problem is that the pc optimization simply doesn't exist. This is a flaming pile of **** right now.

If you really want to waste 59.99, buy a few **** and shove them up your ass because that's going to give you more pleasure than this.

Then go and torrent the game because the torrented copy runs perfectly, ironically.

No Man's Sky breaks the record in falling short of the hype – which is an incredible achievement in the category of super ambitious space games. The huge universe is a repetitive, lifeless and meaningless place, no amount of random generated creatures can change that. The most unforgivable fail is making the spaceship such a pain to fly, which makes exploring the vast universe simply a chore. However, at its best the game is epic and many of the issues should be easy to fix, so this might not be the end of the journey after all. [Sept 2016]

It's partially broken, shallow, repetitive and aimless, but hang me, I still kind of love it. [Issue#255, p.56]

While some poorly designed systems and mechanics chip away at your patience, the feeling of flying seamlessly from space down to a peninsula you spotted from orbit never fails to enthrall. [Nov 2016, p.106]
