    Mine resources ? To bad that every planet on the universe had planetary-wide "sentinel drones" on them, that will kill everybody who dare to steal a handful of dirt...Surviving simply means to refill one of your numerous constantly dropping meters. Manually of course, even if your have enought resources in your inventory. This game uses every opportunity to artifically extend the gameplay (Yeah, we like our Inventory small and fiddly).

    The best part is probably the exloration, but of course it's shallow like the rest of the game - push your scanner run to the next question marker and "discover" one of 5 or 6 generic alien things that are pretty mutch the same on every planet.This game has too many flaws big and small to name them all, I won't even start to talk about all the technical problems this game has. The 60 € price tag is just the cherry on top of the cake. I think they knew very well why they gave no review copies to the press or showed actual gameplay vids before release.

    Maybe buy this in a Sale after a couple of patches for 20 bucks, because the potential is there but buried under a pile of 18 Quintillion generic planets.    … Expand

    I pre-ordered this game. Than played 40 hours. I learned that if i use pre-ordered ship atthe beginning you can not learn the hyperdrive blueprint. Well my hours gone because this bug hit me too. Can't craft or can't find hyperdrive so i am stucked. Restart needed but i already lost my interest. In summary game is too buggy and there is nothing to do in this game.     I really looked forward to this game. The first few hours of game-play is okay if you look past the terrible inventory management system and menu system (port from console).

    Getting into your ship and flying away from the starter planet only to discover that all planets are somewhat the same, just with different colors, was a huge disappointment.     I've been to 5-6 planets and all outposts look exactly the same even though they are occupied by different races, why?! All space stations I've been to (3) are identically inside and there is no sense of "life" at the stations (even X Rebirth have more exiting stations).

    I have to mention the ship controls, terrible! For instance, you can't fly close to a planet's surface pinpointing your landing location, the game won't let you. I feel that the developers have taken away basic flight freedom. Also, when I fly and hit space stations I simple bounce off, wtf!

    This games makes me wanna have another go at X Rebirth.    … Expand

If you managed to ignore the hype, shady marketing practices and dont run into performance issues, this game might even be considered decent.

    If you want a list of things that the game promised before release but then reneged on, you can check out the "Where's the NMS we were sold on?" thread on reddit - it provides a pretty decent summary of interviews and gameplay trailers where Sean Murray explicitly stated things which are definitely not in the game. The hype that was generated was entirely the fault of Hello Games, and they deserve the flak they are getting for letting people down.

    As it stands, this game needs some serious patches to fix performance issues (which they are working on, so that's a good start) but what it really needed was a competent PR campaign and some honesty prior to launch. It did not need Sean Murray promising the universe and outright lying to people.    … Expand

    -the first sign for me that this wasn't gonna be good was that the download was only 5 gb. Wait what? 5 gb for a universe sized sandbox?! Well unsuprisingly all of the planets look almost identical, the only difference is that some planets are slightly more darker or have slightly more aggressive creatures. In the words of Angry Joe: :"As wide as an ocean but has the depth of a puddle"
    -the gameplay is the most basic of basics when it comes to a gathering and crafting game. you fly on planets,collect resources so you can fly on other planets and collect more resources. There's no interesting story,characters,factions or anything that Sean promised was gonna be there,was not and instead we got a one big bowl of **** YOU!

    In conclusion No man's sky is a repetitive grind fest that will have you bored in a matter of hours. Just play elite dangerous instead.    … Expand

    this game made by hello games is mediocre at best . multiple issues related to bugs and poor optimization are evident . In fact i feel ashamed to give this game a 5 . I should give it lower but I will cut hello games a slack this time , but they shouldn't expect that in the future.

    Even if you take away everything that was falsely advertised by hello games and look at the game as if it was the game that was promised to us , its still a very crappy game. You are paying triple a money for this game (19000 naira if you live in nigeria) but offer not more than a 3000 naira game . The game is heavily repetitive where you only do about 3 things , fly , mine and walk .even when you finish the game (that is when you reach the center of the galaxy) ******SPOILER ALERT******get taken to another galaxy after a small chit chat with the atlas , a sort of jello being you've been chasing the entire game .

    All and all this game is an atrocious mess with bare bone features and nothing worthy to offer . The only thing i appreciated about this game is the music and the diversity of (some) planets .I would refrain from buying this , even a cheaper copy or even a pirated one because however you obtain it , you feel robbed , especially if you pre ordered it (please stop pre ordering your games if you do ) this game is half assed and i believe hello games drained more resources in making fancy cgi's for the game than actually developing it . As an alternative i would recommend star citizen or elite dangerous or perhaps an indie rival , rodina . spore is also a good option though not completely similar . I won't be returning it; it's more a "I'm bored right now, wonder if anything can make me less bored..." game. But know that the first 1-4 hours are FUN. After that... you've done it all.     It's the same thing over and over and over again. Go to this planet, look for resources, check out one or two outposts, sell your resources, maybe get lucky and get an upgrade worth using. Go to the next planet and repeat. Very disappointed with this game so far.

    A technical marvel that runs badly even after the PC support patch and endless tuning.
    A beautiful universe filled with countless wonders that are all pretty samey and interrupted by terrible game design and UI/UX.

    I don't have the fastest or best rig in the world, so I'm getting a constant 30fps with low settings: Intel i7-2600K, 16GB RAM, GeForce GTX 750 Ti OC I was worried I'd get motion sickness playing it, but none so far - so that's already a plus.     I can't recommend the game in its current state.
    If Hello Games address the myriad of issues, it's potentially a 7 or 8 rated game.

    The price doesn't bother me... it's whether the game is good or not.
    I'm happy to sink £200 into a game if it delivers on most of my expectations.

    I feel NMS needs:
    * Missions/quests
    * Greater inventory space
    * Potential to meet AND see other people
    * Different classes of spaceships - fighter, merchant, rogue, etc.
    * Able to customise the person you control (sex, age, race/species, etc.)

    I genuinely don't know where to start. The longer you play this game the more you realize that this game is an empty experience.     Mining and crafting is a frustrated experience due to the fact that once you have upgraded you ship and multitool and you buy or find a new one you have to start all over again. Upgrade modules can't be transferred to new ships and multitools. This is what you spend your time on for 90% on this game.
    So, you crafted 3 upgrades for your hyperdrive for your current ship, but now you see a 30 slot ship instead of your 28 slot you already got? Get ready to mine those rare materials that are hard to find all over again or otherwise you won't be able to grind to get to that max inventory space ship you want in the end. Because of this punishment for having done all the work to get better modules getting a new ship is a terrible experience.

    The combat on-foot and in space is painfully mediocre. Don't get your hopes up about the "epic" space combat, spawning a couple of pirates every once in a while is hardly epic.

    The "game" has got a very thin story and is hardly engaging.

    18 quintillion planets? Who cares if there is so little fun to be had.

    I confess, I was one of those idiots that preordered this game and honestly I feel pretty stupid right now. The only positive is that I got instantly cured from preordering ever again. Don't make the same mistake as me.    … Expand

    Its very dissapointing to say the least. Ironically, it makes me appreciate Elite: Dangerous much more than ever before.

    My biggest problem is how on rails the space flight feels, and how poorly the game looks and performs. I don't think its a bad game, just not worth 60 dollars. I'd certainly consider getting it on discount price.

You will literally see the same building and find the same meaningless "points of interest" over and over and over again. You will have the same, meaningless interactions with aliens of 1 of the 4 races.

You finally realize you are about to start a loop that is not what you had hoped for or expected. You only barely control your ship. On planets you can't skim the ground (or hit it). Landing is automated on planet and entering space stations. You can explore and discover creatures, make friends with them, but it's really only fun a few times. On top of that, the end goal to reach the center will only reward you with starting the game all over again, needing to fix a ship to get off the planet. No cool cut scene, not even credits. I wanted to love this game and admit I did have some fun with it, but it shouldn't have a AAA price.… Expand

I do not consider games that are single player these days worth a full price, when I have already bought a package for Star Citizen for only $45 and for that I get access to both singleplayer/co-op campaign (when it's out in the end of the year) and persistent universe, which I could play now. This is why I did say I may buy this game if it does go 50% off. There are other complaints that the game glitches/crashes even on consoles (i am surprised). Anyway this is what pisses me off the most, otherwise the game has *some* potential. You have to be prepared when you go into combat, since it is real time. You have to mine, craft and sell items and find some kind of stones to learn species' language, which apparently takes time.

    That was all about it I got. Really i expected something different, but that's what we have. It's maybe fun when you get into it, but if you see that it doesn't taste what you would like to have, then put your money into Star Citizen. At least, that would give you everything else. I wouldn't play a single player survival game like NMS, if of course the story isn't as engaging. Have fun playing if you got it and you can run it, but if you have not, it's not the time, wait then buy. Once performance improves...    … Expand

It has some cool moments like when you go through the atmosphere for the first time and get an understanding of how big it is and how big the planet you were on is. But it's not much else than that for me. Collecting materials and upgrading stuff just doesn't cut it for me. Also theI'll keep it short and simple. Making 18 quintillion planets is an achievement.     This game was not optimised properly for the PC platform. Frequent frame rate drops entering and leaving any planet's atmosphere which is something that happens often. Ugly texture maps everywhere you turn. My box FAR exceeds the requirments and yet the game stutters on low graphic settings???     Just for reference i have an AMD processor with 24 GB ram i have no problem playing other modern games like DOOM(2016), Fallout 4 and BF4 on the highest setting without loss of frame rate but for some reason i cannot play No Man's Sky on low settings without GPU bottleneck and loss of frame rate?

    Wait a year till they properly optimize this game before even considering spending your cash.    … Expand

    - Fine, let's search materials (iron and I don't know what more). Oh, cool, I have a jetpack. Oh **** I fell from 2 meters and got damage. Ok, I won't use the jetpack, because on top of that it's slow as balls.
    - Walking speed is atrocious, sprint is limited but you have a good amount so I wonder why it's limited in the first place. Seriously, you can sprint longer than you can use the jetpack.
    - Start mining rocks, laser overheats, ok. **** decision by the way.
    - I mine ONE (1) rock and robot police starts running behind me and shooting (WTF). Total amount played: 5 minutes. I run and hide from them.
    - I find some animal, obviously made from stitching together some random parts. It's so obvious it hurts.
    - Start telling me my suit against radiation or toxicity or something is beginning to wore out. I'm no more than 10 minutes into this.
    - Have I said UI is horrible?
    - Got an alien word.
    - More sentinels, I'm literally doing nothing.

    To sum up, many MANY things to take into account. Menus are very VERY poorly designed from a usability point of view. Inventory is a mess. The procedural nature of this game makes that your first minutes playing this can be a hellish nightmare. The "no fun robot police" is the worst decision ever made in a game that tries to reward you for exploration.

    I have played no more than an hour, and it was a very boring hour. Also, it's very badly optimized. I have a good setup and I had to lower resolution and disable antialiasing so I could move the camera without slowdowns.

    I give it 4 points because there's a good idea buried somwhere in, but as if it's now this is not an enjoyable experience. If you bought this, don't try to justify your purchase and force you to like this thing.

    The fooled you, the same as they fooled me with false advertising and hype marketing. Lucky I could refund the game, now I'm going to use that money (60 bucks, way too expensive for what it is) for other games I'll (I hope) enjoy more.    … Expand

    O game esta muito bom, esploracao , viagens intergalaticas mas eu jogo no pc e esta injogavel , dando leg toda hora tenho que reiniciar o game direto por causa disso , minha nota seria maior se nao fosse este problema, esperando um patch de correcao em breve.

    There is something special in NMS, but its covered in so much generic, ugly visuals, boring crafting and barter system and repetitive walking around, that it bored me after a few hours. I don't think I will be playing it again.

    Over the years the devs started talking about multiplayer existing in the game, the ability to side with multiple factions and take part in wars that can change an entire solar system completely, a fully dynamic solar system where the planets and their moons orbit as they would in real life so that the background "won't simply be a drawn picture". Unfortunately, that's exactly the case. Because of that, planets that would originally be hotter when near the sun or frozen when further away from it are now randomly generated as well, and there's a possibility that you can find planets extremely similar to each other in the same solar system.

    And to make things worse, they used a game running the old engine which had all promised features included, as shown in E3s, merely weeks before the game was releasing to show gameplay. This is just fraud. They also stopped mentioning multiplayer (or just dodged the question when it came up) shortly before release, and it turns out it doesn't even exist. Not yet anyway.

    I wish I was making this up but there is someone on reddit who has gathered every single promise that was made from the announcement of the game till shortly before its release and proved that everything was just lies, with video proof on every claim.

    I guess if you like running around with 10 fps gathering resources in a painfully simliar fashion on each planet, this game is for you.    … Expand

    I did not like, the graphics was very ugly in some places my fps fall too, have the dangerous elite and it runs very well, not like I'm asking for a refund on steam.

    Originally I thought this game to be much better. After playing for about 30+ hours I now see there is no content. The concept and visuals are nice but the game is empty and void of fun.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a huge disappointment and barely fun at all. We were promised so much and give so little. One of the worst things of all is the devs are still keeping quiet about their development, and continue to lie to the fans about what is and isn't in the game. The whole thing seems like a massive cash grab, and while addictive, is very little fun at all. The graphics are awful, as is the gameplay and performance.

    The three worst things are as follows-

    1) The Dev's continue to lie to the community over their broken mess of a game which they literally did lie about content during development.

    2) The demos shown on the steam store are still old builds of the game and look nothing like the real game. It is basically fraud displaying those demos as a way to trick users into buying this awful game.

    3) (MASSIVE SPOILERS ALERT-DO NOT CONTINUE READING UNLESS YOU WANT IT SPOILED BUT IT IS WORTH BEING SPOILED,)

    The center of the universe ay? Wasn't that the whole point of the game to begin with? To get to the center? To finally find out what is there? Well guess what, there is NOTHING. YOU CAN'T EVEN GO THERE. It just makes you start the entire game over. All. the. way. over. again. Literally, you just try to go there, and it says you're going there, and then it zooms out all the way to the edge of a new galaxy for you to start all the way over again. You never find out whats in the center. The new galaxy's have nothing beneficial to them. They are completely pointless. This is the most disappointing game I have ever beheld.

    THE ONLY GOOD THING IS THE SOUNDTRACK which can be found for free on youtube.

I realized i was doing the same thing ALL THE TIME: Gathering resources for expanding my inventory, with that extra inventory space I could gather more resources that I would spend on new inventory slots. Learning alien languages is almost unnecessary.

    No Man's Sky was hype. There's no hiding the fact that this game was hyped up to be a massively multiplayer, open world, incredibly detailed and insanely interactive. It didn't deliver in any of these aspects.

    Over the course of the game's creation, developers promised and showed us many things that never actually saw the light of day when the game was finally released in mid 2016.    No Man's Sky was hype. There's no hiding the fact that this game was hyped up to be a massively multiplayer, open world, incredibly detailed and insanely interactive. It didn't deliver in any of these aspects.

    Over the course of the game's creation, developers promised and showed us many things that never actually saw the light of day when the game was finally released in mid 2016.

    The ships, although cool in looks, are severely lacklustre in this game. Bigger ships do not necessarily mean more control, better weapons, etc, instead they allow for the player to carry larger amounts of materials than before. There is no feeling of progression from gaining a new ship after hours of endless grinding, rather, a feeling similar to something like "Oh hey look a new ship, that one looks cooler than my last one".

    While I'm on the topic, the endless grinding? The game was hyped up to be some sought of "choose your own adventure", and from trailers and developer details, this is what we were lead to believe. Instead, you spend hours upon hours finding very specific resources, some of which aren't available in certain planetary systems simply to fly your ship, not very satisfying gameplay, especially since, from early trailers, players were lead to believe that again, you could choose how you played. We were supposed to be able to grind resources if we wanted, discover new planets if we wanted, discover life forms, learn languages and although all of this is possible, the gameplay is extremely lacking and in order to do this in the first place, large amounts of grinding time is required.

    Multiplayer was another functionality that was promised by developers, and probably the biggest let down of the whole game. The grind, in my opinion, would be totally worth it if I could fly my ship to a certain solar system to find my mates, fly around with them and destroy other's ships. Unfortunately, the only interaction I will ever have with someone else is when I see details of the planets they have discovered in game.

    Although this game does disappoint, credit must be given for the vast expanse of planets and that have been created and the graphic quality of the game. Looking through the universe's map certainly leaves a feeling of wonder and intrigue as to what might be out there, and the graphical quality and aesthetically pleasing aspects of the game add to this, however, from feelings of being let down from previous gameplay, those hopes are soon quashed.

    Hopefully, the developers can continue to create content, similar to recent updates (bases can now be created and land ships are now a thing) that will fix some of the glaringly obvious problems that the game has. Otherwise, I doubt I'll be playing anytime soon.    … Expand

    The gameplay is the same thing as the first game, no innovation, the jump feature is worthless, what the game forces you to see and play is beyond reason, is sad how bad the story is, it seems naughty dog had an agenda to destroy what everybody loved of the first game.

    But I must say the technology used is amazing, acting is awesome, dialog and everything that involves the cinematic, I    The gameplay is the same thing as the first game, no innovation, the jump feature is worthless, what the game forces you to see and play is beyond reason, is sad how bad the story is, it seems naughty dog had an agenda to destroy what everybody loved of the first game.

    No Man's Sky breaks the record in falling short of the hype – which is an incredible achievement in the category of super ambitious space games. The huge universe is a repetitive, lifeless and meaningless place, no amount of random generated creatures can change that. The most unforgivable fail is making the spaceship such a pain to fly, which makes exploring the vast universe simply a chore. However, at its best the game is epic and many of the issues should be easy to fix, so this might not be the end of the journey after all. [Sept 2016]
