There have been lots of very negative reviews. While I can certainly sympathize with those who have technical issues with the game I can't subscribe to the point of view that this is in any way a bad game. The gameplay is paper thin, and this is disappointing, but the game has been about exploration and it still delivers on that promise. I would have given the game a 8/10, but I added one point to do my part in offsetting the angry mob.

If it weren't for the bad optimization, it would have been a good game for 20 minutes and half the price...
I might play it again once it gets fixed, though i doubt that ill enjoy it. Everything is the same.

I don't know what it is about this game but despite the simplistic play style and overly repetitive worlds I can't not play it. I go to play other games and with in 20 minutes I'm back on No Man's Sky trying to find something new I suppose. There is a rush when you actually find or see something cool, and I feel like a lot of bad remarks come from people simply not knowing all you can do in the game. For example those pods with lasers spewing out of them towards the sky; if you create a by pass chip they'll give you way points to various things, from extra inventory slots to bits of lore. This game really needs some more content however and hopefully with in a year we'll be looking at a totally different game. I would personally like to see some sort of terra-forming and base creation, as well a better map and ways to connect to other players. Think of it as a mine craft where you're attached to the entire world and other people can land on a planet you've been too and gaze at structures you built. In addition perhaps some RPG elements could really help this game out, the ability to truly have different classes, a real in game economy, and some actual affiliation with different groups. Even making this into a 3D version of the palm classic Space Trader would be great. Ultimately this is a good foundation that could with a lot of work be made into something incredible.

On the technical side of things, simply editing the max FPS rate and turning off v-sync fixed all my performance issues. It is not a breathtakingly stunning game either, but if they added more content that wouldn't matter. Music isn't that spectacular either.

For now I will continue to play and enjoy this game myself as I let my imagination run wild, but I will not recommend this game to anyone. Perhaps for around $15 bucks I'd say, "Yeah if you have every other game around 15 bucks and you need to buy something." I hope to be able to amend this review in a few months time.

You see hundreds of reviews that say this game is awful. That it does not run. Its all BS. The first time i launched the game, i started on a planet next to my ship, but decided i'd turn the settings up to the max. I got a little bit of stutter after restarting my game, then all of the sudden my frame rate stuck right around 140-144 matching my monitors refresh rate. I was surprised considering 90% of the reviews said it only got 30 on a good day. The game looked great, the planet i was on was full of life, its just great! I've played around 30+ hours so far and have warped 20+ times. I cant put it down, and once i figured out the basics, which did take me a little while, but once i did, it was great. Most people haven't even played long enough to actually get into it, they play for a few hours and go to a few planets and boom their bored, obviously not the game for them. There is always something new to do, with objective. I sometimes spend hours just colecting rare resources from a hostile planet to save up for a new ship, or just to build my wealth to buy equipment to warp to different types of stars. There is no reason for the negative reviews, because you all bought this game knowing exactly what you were purchasing. Sean showed a lot more than i expected him to, but it was mainly to calm the Nancys. The game is simply art, and if you didnt buy it purely for exploration, then i dont know what the hell you were expecting and could care less if you put it down and didnt touch it again. Overall, i enjoy the game, i am addicted and thinking about buying a gaming laptop so i can play it while at work, because once you get hooked, your hooked. Also, everyone needs to stop comparing it to other games, because this is nothing like other games, nor is it trying to be, your reviews are irrelevant. From what i saw in trailers, video game play and everything sean has said about the game, it is exactly what i pictured it would be, so if you were dissapointed than you clearly didnt read up on what you were buying. Good day nubs. Check out some screen shots ive taken here

The ammount of lyes around this game before the launch is tremendous. People need to know that besides them liking the game this is a scam, and supporting this kind of crap leads to more crap in the future. This game has been selled like a AAA game being an Alpha indie one. Hello Games doesn't deserve any money.

Moving in this game is incredible slow, when you run, it feels like sneaking in any other fps game. Alt + Tab not working, poor optimization, boring gameplay.

An obviously incomplete game. If this had launched as early access for $15-$20 I could see rating it around a 6 or 7. At $60, it's a rip off. It's a great explorer sim but is no where near polished enough from a user experience or performance perspective to sell for full AAA prices yet. In another 2-3 months the game could be polished to the point where it would be worth $40. In 6-12An obviously incomplete game. Again, should have launched in early access.

Issues I encountered in 3 hours of play time:
Corrupted save because I alt-tabbed out.
General confusion about what I was doing because the in game tutorial is so bad and the UI is not intuitive.
Have to restart to change settings. If you do this before saving the first time, you lose your progress and starting planet.
    Ship flying control is poor.

Keeping up with news on this game after launch has been less than promising as well. Already there are mentions of paid DLC in the future (maybe distant future, but still, finish the game first). Lots of promises and continued expectations by the community that the game will be finished AFTER launch. Temper your expectations for this game. Daily player numbers are dropping very fast according to tracking sites suggesting that this game does not have staying power.

Minecraft, meanwhile, actually does have multiplayer down to dedicated servers and we're going on the sixth (or so) year of free updates, while Sean Murray has already mentioned paid DLC for No Man's Sky.

Both of these games were completed at least a year before development on No Man's Sky even began. While the game has a very attractive visual style, gameplay ages quickly and dies sooner than the most banal 90s first-person shooter. To reward your efforts, the ending is an unironic next-decade version of Spore's, with a little bit more Arthur C. Clarke and a little less Douglas Adams.

This is not even getting into the massive technical problems that the launch is currently having, even on the most common hardware (hangups on 970s with modern drivers surely could have been foreseen even by an indie developer). The game deserves no more than a 2/10 and you should pay no more than 2/10 of the launch price for it.

The execution however is just lackluster, rushed or lazy, it's a console port with zero efforts going into the PC version.

After every graphic setting change you need to restart the game, the intro sequence already stutters and you have microstutters on a lot of actions in the game, textures load very late in a weird way, the resolution was poorly upscaled from the PS4 resolution and it makes the game look kinda blurry, the performance is just not acceptable for a PC game with these 2010 graphics.

Flying in this game feels like riding one of those automatic toy cars in front of shopping malls, you insert a coin and the thing is moving somehow, but only a kid would believe it is really steering and controlling the vehicle. You can't crash your ship, you can't fly close to the ground, you can't hit any rocks or buildings, you can't land on your own, it's an automated sequence, basically the game holds your hand the whole time you're flying, which completely kills the flying immersion for me.

Then the riddles, you have to solve them sometimes when unlocking new waypoints or targets. They're pretty much on 1st or 2nd grade level, it's always the same pattern. It's a number sequence that either adds, deducts or multiplies by 1,2,3,4,6,7.. or the other way round.

Ships, buildings and space stations in an infinite universe, you would expect them to look interesting and different, right? Well, they don't. There are like 5-6 different ship designs in the game ( with slight variations like color or inventory slots ) and all buildings and space stations look absolutely identical, at least from the inside. In an infinite universe with countless different intelligent species, this just doesn't make any sense.

A side effect of this, no planet you are exploring is actually unexplored, you are never the first one. There are buildings, ships, sentinels and structures on every planet or moon, nothing is unexplored.

My biggest gripe with this game is the flat-out lying about Multiplayer, that is just unacceptable. Sean Murray promised multiple times, that you can meet other players, turns out you can't. But not only did he lie about this aspect of the game, he simply refuses to address it, like some dodgy politician being in the business for 50+ years.

He lied about multiplayer, he lied about the formula they're using for the procedural generation, he lied about the engine they're using, he lied about some other missing features and he also lied to the people when showing the trailers for the game.

The game has been data mined already, and it turns out, that everything in the trailer was designed and scripted, there was no procedural generation at all.

There are times, where I have some joy with this game, the atmosphere of some planets is really relaxing, but this should have been a 10$ game, I regret not refunding this for this price.

I suspect this is what is causing the frame speed dips for people, despite them having powerful GFX cards.

Playability wise, the game is a little rough round the edges in places, but overall it is compelling. The procedurally generated landscape and creatures is the real star of the show, and it is impressive. The static content is less so.

I've had quite an emotional roller-coaster ride with this game. From feeling pure delight, boredom, then disgust and now having rather somber afterthoughts.

I enjoyed exploring my first few planets and naming my first few critters very much. Swimming, diving, jetpacking, spellunking and all that. At one point I climbed a mountain at sunrise and said to myself "this is the most beautiful view ever, what a game!"

I actually like the look of the game and I had great fun on the night of release.

Sadly, after exploring twenty more planets with different but somehow familiar looking creatures on them and appreciating the beautiful but similar vistas, I found the exploring part less and less thrilling. Not good when this game is all about exploring.

The game generously offers a gozillion worlds of this boring dejá-vu adventuring. Guess you could slog on for a while and end up with the meanest ship in the galaxy (and the biggest exosuit). But what's the point of that? In the end there is not much else to do...

The crafting, isnt it challenging or rewarding? Not pretty much so! Just collect, build and install upgrades that in many cases doesn't do squadoosh.

Compelling characters and interesting, scary or funny alien encounters? Nioerp! (Gek word)
Aliens and their culutures are fairly well done and they look ok, but posess no personality whatsoever. Furthermore there are only three species (and you) in the entire universe. What!?
(Now I will go into a bit of rant.)

Hey, how about "procedurally" (very fancy coding only known since the sixties), generate aliens instead?
No, that won't work, it'll still be the same old aliens' bodyparts combined in bizarre ways,

You should always look ahead, so perhaps in the distant future this game after patches and DLCs, will be more entertaining. We will see, but it's unlikely that I ever will consider NMS a great game.

For now it's massively overhyped and overpriced.

Don't go in to NMS expecting a combat experience of the like of Elite because that's not what the game is. NMS is a sandbox game where you make your story.

This game is about exploration and making up your own style of play. It has many survival elements and has very little hand holding, so it's easy to get yourself in a bind. The game is beautiful, like walking into a sci fi book cover from the 80's. the focus is on exploration and discovering

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not for everyone, many people will feel let down by this game and angered about the lack of content, performance issues etc. However, I lowered my expectations and found this game to be a complete blast to play. The fact that you can explore an "infinite" universe really blew my mind and I still find it fun to discover new planets, atlas interfaces and black holes. The space combat is great and poses a challenge to me. Some of the game can be a drag such as finding resources that are few and far between especially when I needed Zinc for a spacecraft and there was no flora on the planet so I had to find a trading post to get it which took ages :( . I was able to run the game at 1080p maxed out on a mid range gaming PC it just seems like pot luck for now whether it runs well. I also experienced lag spikes when entering a planets atmosphere. Hopefully this is fixed soon. Overall this is a great (but not perfect) game that will blow your mind if you know what to expect. Expand

People who want fast-paced action packed games will get bored quickly, but if you are interested in a relaxing exploration game, this game is great. Many aspects of the game are repetitive, but there is just enough uniqueness on certain planets to keep you playing. I see No Man's Sky as an early step into massive game universes and I hope gaming studios build on what has been started here.

The game sucks you in. Hours will fly by as you get lost in space and the planets, gathering resources, learning about different alien civilizations, new species, upgrading weapons and ship, etc No problems running on my PC although it is well spec'd, I ran into a couple bugs but nothing major. Very fun and addictive game. Lots of potential.

The review is simple: It's a incredibly open explorer. So many places to go, and only a handful of things to do when you get there. Beautifully boring.

Game has much potential, but we'll have to see if they can deal with the early problems to take us someplace great.

Sure the flight controls are a little bit awkward on PC, I wish there was joystick support, but still, it is a good time. I wholeheartedly recommend this game. It had a few glitfhes but nothing that makes it unplayable for me. No doubt the devs will fix these things soon.

10 hours in and I'm pretty much done. Do not get this game unless some serious patches come out with fixes and content. Procedural generated worlds is cool, but there isn't enough variety to make it spicy. Get **** sell **** Repeat. The best part of this game? The potential for future content. WAIT for that before considering this.

I spent a while tweaking things and finally got it mostly working decently, barring the random 60+ seconds of slow motion that occasionally happened when it decided to load a massive chunk of textures at once.

The space flight is extremely arcadey, even beyond what I expected based on the trailers and dev talks. There's no real depth to it at all, nor any significant reason to do so beyond gathering some resources or traveling.

Planetary exploration should be somewhat exciting, and was, for the first few planets, before I realized that every planet basically had every resource available, and the only substantial difference was visual. Even then, the planets rapidly starting looking the same. Outposts consist of the same few objects regardless of what alien race occupies them.

    Stations are boring.

Inventory management and user interface is both tedious and awkward.

At some point, with a lot of feature patches and quality of life improvements, this game might be worth buying. Right now it's certainly not worth the $60 price tag. At best it's a $15 Early Access title.

Unfortunately, it is by now abundantly clear that this promise of getting to discover and explore a universe of planets will not be fulfilled. The algorithm that generates this universe simply failed at doing the one thing it was supposed to - a unimaginably large world was created, but one filled with nothing but complete boredom. Everything feels the same, and after having seen a lot of them I now feel confident in saying that no planet is worth exploring. Same animal- and plantlife, the same landscapes everywhere; the slight variations in color and form don't do anything to make a meaningful difference. If this core aspect would have delivered, that would have been enough for me, but alas, it did not.
Unfortunately, the core promise is not the only thing the game failed at delivering. Countless technical and design issues plague it at every corner, the movement is only bearable because of a bug, graphics are mostly ugly, the FoV is unplayably narrow unless you fix it outside of the game, gunplay is bad, spaceflight controls are *horrible*, inventory management is a hassle at best, crafting and gathering tedious.

So in the end what is one left with? Ambition, perhaps. But what does that actually count for when it never amounts to anything...?

My experiences with this game are as follow:
    - Get on my first planet, looks way worse that what you could see in the trailers, but as it's a random thing maybe I wasn't lucky.
    - Have to go to my wrecked spaceship, it tells me (after I come to understand the HORRIBLE UI) I need some materials to repair the motor and other thing.
    - Fine, let's search materials (iron and I don't know what more). Oh, cool, I have a jetpack. Oh **** I fell from 2 meters and got damage. Ok, I won't use the jetpack, because on top of that it's slow as balls.
    - Walking speed is atrocious, sprint is limited but you have a good amount so I wonder why it's limited in the first place. Seriously, you can sprint longer than you can use the jetpack.
    - Start mining rocks, laser overheats, ok. **** decision by the way.
    - I mine ONE (1) rock and robot police starts running behind me and shooting (WTF). Total amount played: 5 minutes. I run and hide from them.
    - I find some animal, obviously made from stitching together some random parts. It's so obvious it hurts.
    - Start telling me my suit against radiation or toxicity or something is beginning to wore out. I'm no more than 10 minutes into this.
    - Have I said UI is horrible?
    - Got an alien word.
    - More sentinels, I'm literally doing nothing.

To sum up, many MANY things to take into account. Menus are very VERY poorly designed from a usability point of view. Inventory is a mess. The procedural nature of this game makes that your first minutes playing this can be a hellish nightmare. The "no fun robot police" is the worst decision ever made in a game that tries to reward you for exploration.

I have played no more than an hour, and it was a very boring hour. Also, it's very badly optimized. I have a good setup and I had to lower resolution and disable antialiasing so I could move the camera without slowdowns.

I give it 4 points because there's a good idea buried somwhere in, but as if it's now this is not an enjoyable experience. If you bought this, don't try to justify your purchase and force you to like this thing.

The fooled you, the same as they fooled me with false advertising and hype marketing. Lucky I could refund the game, now I'm going to use that money (60 bucks, way too expensive for what it is) for other games I'll (I hope) enjoy more.

Start is very slow, but pace picks up as you upgrade your equipment. Gather resources for equipment/fuel, travel to different solar systems/planets, explore new species, uncover intriguing secrets about the galaxy. The game will be a nightmare for completionists with OCD, because it's close to impossible to explore and unlock everything - the game is beyond gigantic, even though the content starts repeating after a while. Things that are not generated really stand out and same types of elements starts repeating after few hours.

Soundtrack is good, though sound effects might bug out some times and play animal noises even on planets, that has no life.

Game has some issues with controls on PC on release. Ship on planets controls weird and non responsive, fine in space. No head controls in ship with mouse/keyboard, but have some with gamepad.

As for technical issues, you need to turn Gsync off manually in config files, which is on by default and makes framerate horrible. After fixing that, game runs smooth even on GTX770 with everything maxed out. And game has some memory leak issues when playing for extended periods of time. Hopefully to be fixed in patches.

Overall game is very good despite issues. If you were expecting AAA scale GTA in space, you will be very dissapointed, because NMS was never meant to be anything like that. It's rather simple, relaxing space exploration game. It's still a small indie game despite having insane amount of planets in it. For hardcore sci-fi fans not Call of Duty crowd.

I just think it would be fairer for those people to wait a few days until these technical issues are ironed out (if that's your objection with the game),rather than giving a game you haven't even played a score of 1 or less. I think they should all people to be able to build or implement their own: Base, Home, City, Trade Port; even being able to store ships and massive battleships.

Alien Races could be in massive interstellar wars and players could pick and choose sides to support; even altering the aliens influence in their home systems. This would also be a reasonable way to implement PvP.

It's a lot of work that the Dev's can do to improve and make this one of the best games ever. Just don't expect it to happen overnight.

The steam page clearly says that you need a radeon 480 graphics card or higher, which it's nvidia equivalent would be about a GTX 960. Secondly you should update drivers once the game is downloaded and also check that have the latest version of visual c++ redistributable 2010.

Space combat is more fun, and faster paced, than it was in elite dangerous.

Downsides are that the game is somewhat dumbed down to be 'easier' in some regards, landing/flying the ship makes it feel like it is on a rail, when you're trying to fly low. Trading is not really very useful since quantities when buying are low and prices unpredictable. It is exceedingly difficult to fly back to a place you've been before. And the UI could use work to become better. Also, the optimization may require manual tweaks to be good. None of these downsides seem insurmountable, and are what I expected after reading reviews.

I feel like this game has been getting a lot of bad PC press for things that shouldn't matter. There are settings in the game by default which make the game unplayable, being the vsync being turned on, and frames limited to 30fps, causing stuttering. If you adjust this setting, the game runs smoothly on full settings.

If you adjust this setting, the game runs smoothly on full settings.

I don't own a beast computer, but the simplest problem solving (changing fps cap to 60 to match monitor) fixed it, so I can run the game on full settings with a i7 6700K and a GTX 970. It really isn't that hard, and the game runs 60fps, MAX SETTINGS.

The game itself, is a little underwealming. There is a dangerous habit forming among developers to release an unfiinished game at full AAA price, with the promise of adding content later in updates and free DLC's, and this game is no exception. Following the lead of games like Overwatch and Starwars Battlefront, this game has launched with a interesting premise, but little content to ween people in for the long haul. The planets are interesting, and while environments vary slightly, the biggest change on each planet is usually the colour scheme. The animals are weird, but in the end, quite forgettable. There isn't really any standout features from the 30+ planets I have already visited.

The computer port is another feature that has let down users. The HUD is horrendous, and difficult to get the hang of. Weird keys have been used for important features, such as the letter X being used instead of scrolling on the mouse for changing weapons by default. There is also no tutorial to explain a lot of the keys, or what needs to be done at all in the game. I understand that the game is meant to be "thrown in the deepend with a crash on a random planet", but the fact that the game doesn't explain how to charge life support seems like a fatal flaw for new users.

Overall the game is interesting, but the PC port is very poor, and the graphics extremely disappointing considering what our PC's are capable of producing. The controls and HUD is disappointing, there is very little instruction, and the game play is unfinished, and repetitive.

The game is not bad, I think Hello Games had a very ambitious idea and couldn't deliver the game the way they wanted. My main complaints are the spaceship controls and the lack gas giants, brown dwarves, pulsars, etc.
Having fun with the game and hope they can keep working to add more content and hopefully keep the game on par with the price they are asking for.

Planets are all the same, oh except this one is hot, and this one is cold, and this one is poisonous, and this one is radioactive. So your life support systems break down in the same way, and you repair them in the same way, its just the 'color' of the hazard that changes. Why are no planets completely gas planets without a surface? Or complete water worlds? They're all the same, just painted with different palettes, with the same sporadic appearance of flora + fauna. Want to land your spaceship? Go find some plutonium, rinse repeat. With this kind of 'cost' of travel, you'll quickly find yourself deciding against landing your spaceship and exploring because you really don't want to wander around looking for plutonium again.

The alien races you encounter are dull, and they all just seem to be sitting wherever they are, waiting for you. The main 'questline' has you warping to and fro so often that all you really want to look for is the ingredients you need to make warp cells. Your catalog of stars, planets, life, rocks that you discover is completely meaningless. You're not given any context for your discoveries except for "you've found 64% of the weird **** on this planet!" So what?

    I regret my purchase.

You are one. We are hundreds, thousands. Millions. You aren't just IN the minority; you ARE the minority.

I don't feel awkward or anxious playing No Man's Sky around others, and your words don't affect me. Many others, however, are coming out of their shells for the first time in their lives. This is the first time many are enjoying the beautiful world that has been generated for us - and it IS beautiful. Incredibly so. DON'T ruin this for them.

We No Man's Sky fans may have our differences, but we will not hesitate to come to the aid of our fellow explorers, especially against someone who so virulently slurs that which has brought us all together.
Don't take this the wrong way. I don't hate you. I don't fear you.

    I pity you.

I'm sorry that you feel this way towards us. I'm sorry that No Man's Sky is such a bane to your existence. And I'm sorry that you are missing out on such a wonderful experience. Mostly, though, I'm sorry that you feel the need to go around and publicly chastise and berate others. I'm sorry that, to ensure your own validity, you need to make others feel invalid. I'm sorry that your self-worth is so infinitesimally miniscule that you have to make others feel less-than-human, at least in your own denatured mind, just to feel whole. I am truly sorry that day-in and day-out you have to put up with your worthless, meaningless, Shakespearean tragedy of a life.
I ask you politely to cease your unnecessary cries for attention, and instead invite you to join our ranks. Uninstall Call of Duty, start up No Man's Sky, and breathe in the splendour and the amazement of your first space landing, and then, maybe, just maybe, you'll see what you've been so hopelessly searching for this whole time.

I like flying around the different planets, gather materials and upgrade my gear. I'm 14 hours in and not bored. I like the "Out There"-ish vibe of the game (if unknown, check out Out There on Steam or smartphone stores). I like exploring things and the pace of NMS is just right for me. Also, my girlfriend never plays a game longer than 2 hours before she needs to take a break from it. I convinced her to give it a try and she played it for 7 hours straight. She never does that. This game is definitely not for everyone, but it doesn't deserve so much hate, people are giving it.

"NMS is a bare bones Indie game at a AAA price."
That sums the game up perfectly.

To start off, I bought the game on steam and hour before release, and was able to download it right away when it launched, and play it with no issue/crashed from start after changing my resolution and graphical settings.

So, game played for me, but I still get huge FPS drops, stuttering/hitching every few minutes, and massive pop in all the time, even on a good PC, even on lowest settings.

Graphically and performance wise this game is a joke, pop in for EVERYTHING, all the time, bad performance even on a great PC, and visually and sound wise just not good.

Gameplay, there is none. You mine, you go to next spot and "talk" to an alien with one small line of "story", leave the planet, and repeat.
There is nothing to do, no gameplay at all pretty much.

For a game that advertised the hell out of it's creature and planet generator algorithms, the building, items, and just stuff you interact with is all cut and paste copies of the same 2-4 assets, always arranged the same way.

Great idea, good art assets and style, JUST NOT ENOUGH.

$60 for this game is a Fing joke, even $30 would have been too much, there are indie games for $15-30 that offer far more than this for far less. Look up Subnatica and Elite Dangerous, those are 2 off the top of my head that were well received, and cost less than $30 for WAY more content and gameplay than this game, and look 1000x better.

It feels like the devs just either ran out of money, or rushed to release to finally get the game out, just way too early.

I was never hyped for the game, only saw it at E3 and bought it yesterday, if i waited 3+ years for this I would either be pissed, or in denial right about now, it's not a awful game...but no where near a great one either.

    EDIT ADD ON:
Also, because I forgot to mention it before and am only doing so because of 10/10 reviews here of people saying the devs never lied and people are just upset they don't like the game... people seem to forget how the devs legitimately lied to everyone right up until the game released saying ti was a multiplayer game and you could see other people in game, then the day before release 'clarified" that it was single player only.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unlike many people, the game actually runs decent enough on my PC and i didn't encounter any serious technological problems. Maybe i'm just lucky, since now i can review the game itself.

First, all the people who rave about the supposed amazing technological aspect of creating a huge universe filled with planets. 16 years ago, a single italian programmer released a game that did just that, a procedurally generated universe with billions of planets. Unlike this shallow garbage however, that game had a huge variety of planets, there were barren worlds, water worlds, gas giants, and so on. So to say that NMS did something that wasn't there before is simply not true.

At the end of the day, all NMS does is put together a planet from the same Seed over and over again and swap the colors. If you have been to one planet, you have seen them all. Same type of plants, little variety in alien life and a little different enviroments. It all feels the same. Also, since every single star system i went through has a space station in it and every single planet has those sentinel things on it, you never get that immersion of being an explorer because somebody (NPC-wise) has been there before.

I do understand that they had to add a number of game mechanics to go with the (failed and utterly shallow) exploration aspect but the resource gathering and crafting is just a huge grind. There is no fun in running around and trying to find that single resource you are missing or docking with a space station just to discover that they don't have that one thing you need.

The supposed story, if you even could call it that, is equally shallow, boring and doesnt make much sense. Space combat feels random and sluggish, the ship doesnt move nicely and you can tell after 10 seconds that its just a bad port from the PS4, with all the controls more or less geared towards as controller.

So, in conclusion, NMS fails in all aspects. Its technology is not that great and has been done before. Controls are bad, story nonexistent. And the exploration part is just too shallow to ever give you the urge to continue because there isn't anything new or wonderous to see. And all that for a whooping 59,99€? Save your money.

Even turning slowly, stuttering is abundant and frequently dropping below 20, the game is nauseating. On top of that, the field of view adjustments are broken and it feels claustrophobic. The only way to fix it is going into the settings file and manually changing the FOV to be above 100, but that causes distracting graphical glitches.

The game looks like garbage and the resolution setting only upscales the game from 720p, causing the image to appear blurry and makes jagged edges more noticeable. That aside, half the graphical settings either don't work at all (4xSSAA) or have no graphical difference between highest and lowest (Anisotropic Filtering) but the highest setting still manages to make framerates worse.

I would not touch this game with a 20-mile pole until the developers learn how to make the game run properly. Until then, it is not worth even considering buying unless it is HEAVILY discounted (around $10 at most).

PC version is suffering from random FPS hitches and every 60 -90 minutes suffers a server slowdown/slow motion issue that can only be solved by completely closing out the game and reopening it.

As to story it seems to lack direction entirely, like Minecraft but at least in Minecraft you can build a base and show it off.

    Good parts of the game:

    1. Music is niceish

    2. Graphics are interesting

    3. Exploration part is interesting, as is the language thing, aliens, etc...

    Cons:

    1. Controls are TERRIBLE, for some reason it is almost impossible to make your ship go where you want (it tend to steer/turn on its own sometimes), frequently when you attempt to land in a landing pad, you land right next to it, and waste resources, there is no "target" button to make things more easy. On foot, all the same problems also happen, but it is less aggravating.

    2. Tiny FOV even on maximum settings, it looks like you are always zoomed in, it is too hard to find things because of this (you press the "SCAN" button, and then you have to spin super fast to see anything at all before the icons disappear, thanks to tiny FOV). Also, it is really, REALLY easy to get lost because of this too.

    3. Game has really crappy performance, I am playing it on a super beefy PC (overclocked 32GB RAM, overclocked i5, beefy newest radeon), and it still stutters a lot on low settings!!!

    4. Very, VERY, VEEERY repetitive, not because of being procedural, but because of the "mining" part, so for example red plants and red minerals are always "energy" resources, since "energy" is essential, every single planet has it, even airless moons has red plants and red minerals...

    5. The mining part is terrible, it is very slow, and the inventory is super tiny, with tiny stacks, you spend more time playing tetris with your inventory than playing the game, and playing the game is mostly, mining.

    6. You "discover" planets that have all sorts of junk on them, even planets that the game claims to have zero fauna and zero flora, you still find plants, abandoned buildings with stereotypical "alien goo fungus", stashes EVERYWHERE, aliens everywhere, and so on.

    7. The enemy robot thingies attack you for "no reason" if you are using your "gun", even if you are using the mining part of it, to mine...

    8. I was attacked by pirates a couple times, super easy, and saw a single space battle, it sucked, a lot, first, the game doesn't say who is ally and who is enemy, and doesn't have a "target" button, so you must fly around bewildered as bazillions of tiny ships shoot each other in the middle of capital ships and you have no clue what is going on. Seriously, is it that hard to show someone side on a battle at least? (it is impossible to know what sides are fighting).

    9. Battle controls overall suck, your ship, even in space, fly like a airplane that can reverse but can't stop, if you attempt to stop, your "plane" reverse direction (ie: switch forward/backward speed, jumping between -40 to 40, or 40 to -40), turn radius is huge, and there is no inertia, since all weapons are quite simple, battles look like medieval jousting, just keep crossing with enemies while shooting, turn around, and repeat, aiming skills and tactics are completely unimportant, the only thing that matters is your ship stats, and how fast you can fix your shield (you have to open the inventory, and then "re-craft" the shield, mid-fight... the game doesn't pause when you are doing this).

Surprised that games like this actually draw that much attention from the gaming community. I played for mote tha 19 hours in the game on pc and 17 hours on ps4 and I have seen a HUGE difference between the graphics on pc and ps4. I have not see any crashes that some others have. I am running the game between 45-60 at ultra graphics with a old cpu (Q8400). I recommend this game to anyone that love space , exploration and survival. I just can't stop playing :D

10/10 on PC and on ps4

When you charge premium money for a game then people have a right to set reasonable expectations for that kind of experience. No Man's Sky fails to live up to that expectation and publishers should stop trying to get away with it.

What a mess. How could they get this so wrong after such a long wait? I thought a beast of a PC with a GTX 1080 would be able to run this maxed out, however im stuttering all over the place even with everything on lowest settings. This game is clearly nowhere near ready for release, I feel robbed.

This game has a few small problems and one big one. I'm gonna start with the small ones:
    - It's unoptimised and it runs like ****
    - What's wrong with just clicking things? Why do I have to click-and-hold-until-a-bar-fills-up to do anything? - I like to play while listening to podcasts and while you can mute almost everything, you can't mute the voice that constantly talks to you.

    - I like to play while listening to podcasts and while you can mute almost everything, you can't mute the voice that constantly talks to you. Hearing "Item received" while you mass-craft things every 2 seconds is annoying as **** and you can't mute it.
    - The game doesn't do a good job explaining even the basic gameplay mechanics.
    - You can't alt-tab it. If you do it will crash and restart which is annoying as **** since I like to alt-tab all the time.
    - Why are the "achievement" moment unskippable? Again, annoying as ****.

Most of those things will hopefully get patched or fixed at some point. There is however a one, big issue I have with this game:

It is a giant farm fest. That's literally all You ever do. Just far, farm, farm and the farm some more. You're constantly forced to farm massive amounts of stuff just to get around. You need resources all the time, to fuel Your ship, fuel Your life support, Your weapons and the game is constantly nagging You farm some more. It is boring as ****.
Maybe they can balance it better in future updates but as it is I can't see myself playing it anymore.
Not to mention the PC version if sold at full price of 60$ and it's absolutely not worth it.
Save Yourself some frustration and boredom and skip this **** or wait until it's on sale for 5$.

This is a disaster of cosmic proportions. I might tolerate bugs and some technical discrepancies which are to be easily remedied by numerous patches and updates in near future. I'll keep it short and simple. Making 18 quintillion planets is an achievement. But the gameplay is boring. It has some cool moments like when you go through the atmosphere for the first time and get an understanding of how big it is and how big the planet you were on is. But it's not much else than that for me. Collecting materials and upgrading stuff just doesn't cut it for me. Also theI'll keep it short and simple. Making 18 quintillion planets is an achievement. The ultra negative reviews are frankly, shameful, this is one of the best sci-fi space trading games to come out in a very long time indeed. Those giving the game less than a 7, have either no idea how to play this kind of game. Or worse are doing so because they get off on libel. I suspect its a bit of both. Don't listen to the hate filled rubbish on steam and meta-lie. This is a Gem of a game.

P.S Although I have the high end PC I had some performance issues from the start too but was able to fix them expecting the graphical settings and finding out the the game set the monitor resolution to the wrong value, corrected it and now with everything on max the game is running smoothly with 75+ fps

P.S I just copy/pasted the same feedback I did on Gog and I have pre-ordered the game for 35$ and it worth the money

That any studio has the nerve to release a game with so many technical problems is shocking, and HG should be ashamed of themselves. The game will be remembered for its amazing graphics, and lack of substance in every other way.

Repetitive, boring and over-hyped trash. Cant even play properly, crashes like 1 min after launch. So yeah, I'm very disappointed Hello Games, already refunded this garbage.

No Man's Sky breaks the record in falling short of the hype – which is an incredible achievement in the category of super ambitious space games. The huge universe is a repetitive, lifeless and meaningless place, no amount of random generated creatures can change that. The most unforgivable fail is making the spaceship such a pain to fly, which makes exploring the vast universe simply a chore. However, at its best the game is epic and many of the issues should be easy to fix, so this might not be the end of the journey after all. [Sept 2016]

While some poorly designed systems and mechanics chip away at your patience, the feeling of flying seamlessly from space down to a peninsula you spotted from orbit never fails to enthrall. [Nov 2016, p.106]
