Though full of glitches, Medieval Kingdom War has the potential to become a good strategy game while commanding the war is extremely fun.

Games that hybridize several genres often suffer from a confused identity, but Medieval Kingdom Wars succeeds in fusing the grand and real-time strategy genres in a way that makes sense. The problem is, both modes lack the kind of sophistication that a single genre game might be expected to have. I wish it had a more compelling narrative and varied campaign and that each battle didn’t replay the same basic beats, but Medieval Kingdom Wars is both a reasonably successful proof of concept and should be of at least passing interest to both RTS fans and grand strategy gamers.

There are some good ideas in Medieval Kingdom Wars, but the game needs some polishing and a better UI.

Medieval Kingdom Wars is a very ambitious game, one that certainly has the potential to be far better if Reverie sticks to their promise and keep up with updates and fixes. At the moment it's a little better than adequate, it can even be good at times. It just has a few too many flaws and can hit too many boring patches, preventing it from reaching that higher level.

A valiant effort but ultimately unrewarding, especially given the competition.

Tremendous potential here, but it appears pretty early on given its 0.11 version number and the estimated 10-12 months to completion. The artTremendous potential here, but it appears pretty early on given its 0.11 version number and the estimated 10-12 months to completion. The art assets are of a high quality for a sub-$20 game, and the voice acting and music seem rather good as well. Of course, being early Early Access, there are little bugs and glitches all over the place. Unit pathing is rough, the tutorial isn't fleshed out, small graphical glitches here and there, and there's no campaign yet. Standard stuff for Early Access.

But what potential! Taking inspiration from Age of Empires, Battle for Middle Earth, historical Total War, and Stronghold, it has a little something for all types of strategy gamers. It also offers two features very important to me in an RTS: high camera zoom out and WASD camera control. With good progress this could become a big new player on the real time strategy scene. Already the activity around this game seems quite high for an Early Access RTS with no fanfare. I plan on playing it for another hour or two and putting it on the shelf for a while to check back in a few months. Here's hoping it becomes something great. The foundation is there, it just needs a lot of polish (and a campaign).

You start as a lowly count or duke of mere villages or even a town and slowly build up your influence through military and economic might, due to your low position in the kingdom however, you are limited in your abilities to expand, and your King may even dislike you, causing you difficulties and impasses down the road. Eventually you will grow to be a powerful lord and take the crown for yourself, or if you are a loyal vassal, take the crown of another kingdom. This enables you to have every means of controlling your kingdom, from who you are at war with, who you trade with, and even what your lords do. Now I wouldn't say this game is perfect, but it is, however, updated by a very dedicated developer team who are slowly adding more and more to the experience while also fixing the bugs the users themselves post on the forums. The developers will even reply directly to your forum posts on steam discussing game ideas that can, and many times I've seen, be added. Bugs exist, and glitches are bound to happen, but what I can say is that none of them ruin the game, and most importantly, every time there is a major update, there is always something exciting being added or fixed to improve your experience. The game offers new mechanics and features that aren't seen in series like Total War and Mount and Blade and definitely give a new and different way to play in the medieval age. I would definitely pick this game up at full price, and if you're skeptical, the sale prices are fair enough for you to at least give it a go. Expand
