(In my defense i have to say that i loved Dragon Age: Inquisition) Maybe now, it's a bad game considering all the bugs and the animation problems, but in a few months when all of this **** is fixed it really could be a great game. I think that Bioware don't deserve this toxic feedback, but maybe this will be beneficial for us. Anyway, sorry for my clumsy english. Expand

I’ll try to go over the stuff from what people seem to like most, so first the pros:

Combat: It truly is the best thing about this game, it is really fun to customize the set of skills you want to use to crush your enemies, however I have some issues with this too. There is a skill loadout limit. You can only use 3 until you change it to a different set. The plan was that BioWare wanted to make to combat more fluid, by not having players constantly pause the game to use a skill. This is understandable, but I really hated that I cant use all my powers at once. There were hotkeys assinged to the different powers in the older games that you could use without pausing the game. I don’t know why they wouldn’t just keep that. Another thing that was bothering me is that you can’t use your squadmates power directly. You can order them to attack an enemy and they would use their powers eventually, just not instantly like in previous games, therefore you could’t do combos easily, which kinda killed a lot of fun.

Powers: All the powers are unlocked for you and you can learn anything you want, which is awesome I love this, because it makes you use your creativity to play around, and create different builds.

Exploration: I guess the planetary exploration is great if you are into that, but it can be very repetitive. I know driving around the Mako in Mass Effect 1 on the same planets just with different textures was silly but it had a charm to it, and it was new that time. This is fine but the secondary quest often revolve around the same type of missions.

Visuals: The environment is stunningly beautiful sometimes. I especially liked Voeld the icy planet. I was blown away by some of these places.

And that's about it, now for the worst parts.

Facial animations: I don’t think I have to talk about this. Its really horrible. When its not bad its fine, but you can easily find ugly animations if you look for it in every conversation. The female lead character is especially horrible. They started patching it up, so It looks a little better, but still. Mass Effect 1 had better animations. Also the gameplay is extremely glitchy. There are several game breaking bugs, that I have run into and had to reload.

Characters: I hated every single one them. Some are really annoying. Drack the krogan was fun though.
I didn’t like Ryder either. I’m not saying that Shepard was the best main character ever, but he/she was military, a commander. Someone who had a lot of responsibility and you felt that all throughout the game. And you felt every decision you had to make. Here you are just someones whose father was a big man, who invented this „pathfinder” role and now you have to take that role after him. There are decisions that kinda effect the game, but not really. Not like before.

Story: Main story is completely mediocre. Can’t really say much about it becouse most of the time it was **** boring and very predictable.

Dialouge: This is main source of my frustration. First off, they removed the paragon/renegade options. It had some problems before and I was ok with this when I heard it, but not only they removed the paragon/renegade system, they removed every badass or heroic dialouge options, or every moral choices in the game. Like I said there are few choices that you have to make but neither one is better or worse than the others, and you don’t pick it becouse you are ruthless or a hero. You pick it becouse you have to. You can’t be a badass Ryder. Remember when you punched reporters in the face, or Shepard shot a racist turian hostage? The game doesn’t have anything like that anymore. There is no big dilema during secondary quests. The dialouge just drives you. Most of the time you can only choose 2 options on the dialouge wheel, but sometimes there is 4. Yet all of them say the same thing, just with a little bit of a different tone, or it says a completely different thing than what you want to say. You have the illusion of choices, but in reality, none of it **** matters.

In conclusion: Right now this really doesn’t worth full price. I understand if you want to play it because it’s Mass Effect, and most of the times if feels like a Mass Effect game, a really average one at that. Still I would wait for more patches, and wait for a sale, you are not loosing anything with it trust me.

It’s average. Very average, and for a huge Mass Effect fan like me, incredibly disappointing and sad. I don’t want to make it emotional, but this really broke my heart. It has a potential to have a great sequel, becouse it builds up to it, but this is clearly the worst one in the series. Yet…

This is honestly what surmounts to letting Bioware' D-team work on the storied title that is Mass Effect. I really can't fathom how anybody let's EA and Bioware trick them into buying this 60$ middle finger.

So in essence all I'm saying is that, there is not enough Garrus 1/10 worst game. ET on the Atari is better than this dumpster fire

It is therefore with great sorrow that the knowledge of Star Wars: The Old Republic having enjoyed a greater depth and passion in its story than that of Mass Effect: Andromeda must pass onto our next generation and with it our hope that such abomination might never repeat itself for otherwise we might as well be doomed for eternity. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I made an account just to voice my thoughts, secretly also hoping BioWare would take note. I gave it quite some time to think about this...

TL;DR: RPG's matter because of choices (else, I'd get a movie). Choices only matter if there's consequence and compromise. Consequences matter only if the subject has been properly introduced into the heart of the player. Despite many positive points, I think BioWare failed to realise how these strengths were implemented in its previous Mass Effect titles.

    * It wouldn't do a lot of very talented people justice if I didn't start with some very positive points:
    - Disagree with me but, I like the graphics. The world and alien design is top notch and I've taken more screenshots in this game than pretty much any other game.
    - Combat is fluent, dynamic and very versatile due to things like dodging, jetpack, best version of biotic charge, and I for one prefer this cover system over any ME1/2/3 title, since to me it was really intuitive and not as 'magnetic' as in ME3 (which caused me to get killed many times due to unintentional cover). It just works.
    - Adding depth to Alec postmortem is to me a very good storywriting choice and was executed well. Even added a dimension to the opening scenes on replay.
    - Some characters were written very well. Not to exclude anything, but top of my mind: Suvi, Kallo, Jaal, Vetra, Reyes. Top notch.

I wish to present my critique by highlighting some differences with older ME titles:

    - I LOVE Mass Effect 1/2/3 and would rate them highly regardless of some omissions (ending, bla bla). They challenged my thoughts and evoked emotions, many times over. Sadly, I kept waiting for those big decisions and that loss of control. The only choice I had to make that directly resolved within this game was choosing between a salarian Pathfinder and a few faceless Krogans. The choice is obvious and logical, rather than ethical and emotional. This doesn't affect players as much.
Edit: you can also have or lose the Krogan on New Tuchanka but that isn't really followed up since you can complete the game easily regardless. A lot of open ends like this which suggest a followup in some ME:A2 but I think a game should be sustainable on its own. I could just play ME:2 and call it a day. Same with ME:3.

    - ME2: Tali's romance felt a bit awkward and yet very intimiate and genuine, like you would expect from a real experience. Then there's the chance she gets killed in the end mission. This character buildup and then introduced uncertainty (unless you're the player that just starts over to 'get the story right') is a very good representation of a real life experience and adds immense value to what you do. If a character a) cannot die or b) dies but was only introduced 3 seconds ago (angara person where you found the AI in the ice cave), you do not feel *anything*. Yes, you are still logically choosing based on ethics, but you do not feel it.
ME2 Loyalty Missions were strong because yes a) you really got to know the character but more importantly b) you could actually lose them and you even had to choose between loyalty of characters. Compromise and uncertainty. An outcome only has meaning if it is not certain or if it means giving something else up. Examples:
    - loyal characters that you are emotionally invested in, but can die
    - loyalty of person A resulting in distance with person B. This was only presented in choosing between two Asari that only existed within the loyalty mission.
    - losing loyalty despite doing what you think is best in the greater scheme (again, Tali, at her trial, which then even affects the potential Quarian/Geth alliance)
    - Importantly: These choices offer immense replay value!!
    - Most characters were professional and capable. Even a Wreav, who is relatively unintelligent, is a convincing (plotting, unstable) character within its own canvas. The Tempest crew feels a bit high-school-ish and it is not canonical with what they manage to achieve at all. In ME:3, all characters convinced you of their political and tactical knowledge which makes you feel like you should really pay attention to what happens, e.g. like in real life. For lack of a better term, many ME:A characters are edging on a little goofy. I like humor but a mature character should exert some matureness. Ryder for example only beats the game because of his (my) combat prowess. Because he can hardly keep the group together (people walking away from meetings should be an OPTION, because they sure as hell would not walk away from MY meeting, only if I would choose dialog that reflects very bad leadership - how else can I relate to my character?) and has dialogue with the enemy that is DragonBall Z level: "come at me, a**hole!" - "yeah? that's what YOU think" (I'm not kidding, I made a screenshot that has both options in a single wheel...)
    - Characters aren't completely polarized. You could even feel loyalty towards an Illusive Man in ME:2.

The gameplay is where they really destroyed the game. You don't control teammates, the battles are basically a cover whack-a-mole from easy to hard and the only difference is how many hits the enemies take and how many there are, this makes fights more tedious but not more difficult as you go from easy to hard. There's some stupid additions like platforming segments with unresponsive big clunky 3D characters are just dreadful, the sudoku puzzle mechanic is not terrible but very unoriginal and the vehicle driving through the open world wastelands with nothing of interest in miles and miles are the guidelines on how NOT to make open world games. Instead of embracing what makes Mass Effect good this sequel tried to add more elements with poor taste leaving behind the gameplay elements that made ME an enjoyable game. Expand

Secondly, BioWare, if you're reading this, I hope that you consider releasing some sort of anything for Andromeda at some point, or a new game connected to it.

Mass Effect Andromeda is a great game. It's got flaws, no doubt. It could really do well with even just one piece of DLC (for reasons I won't spoil). And I'm saying this as someone who started playing Mass Effect way back when Mass Effect 1 was the only ME game we had to play. I'm saying this as someone who has been through the original trilogy over and over, ad infinitum. I'm saying this as someone who has totally recognized that BioWare has always had funky animations in every single game they've released since ME1 and Dragon Age.

When I came into Andromeda, the animations were really the last thing I even focused on or concentrated on. They were there, I could see them, but never at any point did it ever seem so drastic that it warranted an internet mob. I truly believe the aforementioned mob was less inspired by BioWare animations and more about the fact that there were LGBTQ+ themes in this game. That there was more than one trans person in this game. That even Asari can be heard speaking about gender and how they present themselves, and these are themes strewn all over the game (themes that make sense, especially in a future where humanity has overcome most of their prejudices against other human beings). I really feel this is the biggest reason that (we'll just call them 'a certain crowd') a certain crowd latched onto ME:A as a point of major grievance. Because it finally deviated from the kind of cowardly ways of the original trilogy where, for example, Mass Effect 2 you had what I would consider a cyberpunk/space masterpiece ... except it was extremely straight and a huge deviation from romantic themes we had only just had in the first iteration of the game (although Tali should not have even remotely stayed straight, just something I wanted to throw out there).

All that aside, all my personal speculation about why this game got bombed by mobs of people, I can finally actually talk about the game.

ME:A starts out with a real hard scifi kind of feel to it. A little different than the trilogy, but the Mass Effect feeling is there, and there's also a new feeling about it. You're thrust 600 years into the future and immediately, everything's going wrong. But then you get a ship, and it is an amazing ship. It's not the Normandy, but it's just as nice and shiny as Shepard's. It took me a while to get used to Ryder, but going back in for a replay, I find myself walking around the ship, just the ship and it makes me feel like this universe really deserves to continue, that it deserves to be here. It's a feeling I can barely describe, but it's a feeling that I don't ever really get outside of the Mass Effect series.

It almost feels like I'm back home, despite my feelings about not being able to be Shepard ever again (or at least for now).

But then you go out and you explore and while the worlds I think are quite a bit bigger than they need to be, I think molding the ME universe into a massive expanse is the right direction for the game. Because unless BioWare turns this franchise into an MMO and gives us some kind of infinitely persistent world, I have nowhere else to go to soak up this much Mass Effect, and Andromeda has a lot of Mass Effect to drink in.

I also come to ME for the romance though, and if someone's telling you they don't, there's a 50/50 chance they're lying to you. Full-stop. The entire Mass Effect trilogy was an on-going romance between my Shepard and Liara, and I expected nothing less from Andromeda. So of course, I met Peebee, or space girlfriend number two. In regards to romance, BioWare really went all out in Andromeda. I think (not entirely sure because I have a bad memory for specifics) every single person on your ship is romancable, and not only that, but there are even romance-inclined NPCs on the Nexus. So there's a ton of romance to be had in this iteration.

The combat in ME:A is the best its ever been in the entire series, and the addition of profiles and jump boosts just makes it even cooler. On top of that, two years later, I'm still playing its multiplayer companion, and so are a ton of other people.

This is already really long, but I recommend ME:A if you haven't played it. My only gripe is that the Asari could use more unique faces and it desperately needs BioWare to return with some DLC. That's it. Those are the only real issues here. Take a look at the critic scores versus the review bombing that happened on the user score side and you'll quickly realize that there's an ulterior motive behind the red.

Buried beneath a ton of annoyances and bad design choices is a very fun game. It's a shame you have to dig through the dirt to find it.

Mass Effect Andromeda does a lot right, like the improved combat, level design in the main story missions, and the setting. The biggest issue, however, was that BioWare decided not to improve upon the linear level design of the trilogy and opted to make most of the game an uninspired semi-open world. In this regard it feels like MEA is two games: The main plot follows the design of the trilogy with well designed linear levels; The secondary content is part of the semi-open world with environments unsuited for Mass Effect's third person combat.

The various planets are a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand you have Havarl which has a very natural mission progression with sidemissions you can pick up on your way. On the other hand you have Kadara, a big map riddled with fetch quests and a storyline that requires constant backtracking. The planet Elaaden has some great looking locations, but the interesting parts of the map are tied to its storyline. The sidemissions are spread around the planet in outposts consisting of a couple of stacked boxes and are, once again, very uninspired and not worth the effort.

The sidemissions also require travelling between planets, with Peebee's loyalty mission requiring the completion of menial tasks in most of the game's main locations, which means you have to sit through unskippable landing and takeoff cinematics meant to mask load times (sorry, SSD owners). Unlike Dragon Age Inquisition you can't teleport to any fast travel point from anywhere. In MEA you have to first enter your ship, look at a minute long cutscene, fly to your new location in the galaxy map, then look at another unskippable minute long cutscene. What's especially frustrating is that after all the travelling you may get an email from a character telling you to go to a planet you just came from, forcing you to sit through the same unskippable cinematic once again.

As far as story and characters go, MEA is very mediocre. There are a handful of interesting characters, but they're not nearly as engaging as the ones from previous BioWare games. The story is decent, but very derivative of previous Mass Effect games.

At its best, Mass Effect Andromeda really shines. Some of the loyalty missions are very well designed missions, and the final story missions is heaps of fun. It's just a shame that there's so little of it compared to the hours upon hours of padding. A damn shame, because there's definitely a great game in here somewhere.

Cons: character animations are a bit of a letdown, but stopped watching their faces pretty quickly; story could be considered simplistic; UI is too convoluted with its directory structure that could use some filtering/searching options; several task-level bugs, one loyalty mission bug I've encountered. System-level planet-to-planet hopping animation was annoyingly after a while. Have to take off to read emails.

I am a slow learner because the Mass Effect series is near and dear to me, but the latest installment is an utter disappointment and I believe a true testament to where we stand in the video game industry. There are only a handful of games that I've purchased that I truly regret spending my money on because I tend to do my research and form a usually informative decision but in this case I am painstakingly upset. I feel Andromeda was a complete waste of money and I really don't want to state this but releasing games of this quality actually encourages pirating and I think EA should be ultimately ashamed. Just about every aspect of ME:A is a complete downgrade and a move in the opposite direction. The combat, dialogue, story, characters, and overall RPG elements are lacking tremendously and it shows in every category. The story and questing get boring so fast and almost the entire galaxy feels empty and pointless. We all know how bad the facial animations are even after corrections, but how sad is the directionless plot and meaningless quests? The core game ends rather fast and you are left with about 5 empty planets that are left 90% unexplored because they are left out of this core game. On top of all this is the dreadful galaxy map and travel system that even after a tab skip was implemented the entire system is tedious and a real bore. The final icing on the cake is the less than mediocre multiplayer and in the end you are left with a steaming pile of crap. I think it is also important and humorous to mention that I have a very good rig with an overclocked GTX 1080 and the game with all current updates runs horribly, constantly lagging and stuttering in 4K, which does not occur with any other PC title I run. It is hard to say these things and this is tough love because I have old attachments to the Mass Effect series and Bioware, but the direction their moving in and EA in general feels very easy to criticize. If things continue in this direction I will be forced as a gamer to completely severe my support of EA and never purchase a title again that has their name anywhere near it. Expand

Mass Effect Andromeda is an inconsistent and disappointing game.

When some parts of the stage look incredible, the facial animations belong to 2004 (Not counting the time it takes to clear and landing animations, they were not necessary after 4 times of seeing them). History being the most important part in a role-playing game, in this game it seems that happened to the background, it seems that the story was written by a teenager with a minimum of knowledge of human relations, with null depth the story takes to clear around Of 20 hours of play.

The combat is seen that is the most worked part of the game makes much more fluid and dynamic with previous deliveries leaving aside the tactical component (which makes impossible the most minimal control of the comrades during a fight).

Conclusion: A good shooter game with a regular history.

Pro's: Some novelty of the Andromeda species, a new Reaper-like mystery (the Scourge, the Kett "exaltation"), better graphics, some atmosphere.
Con's: there are many of them. I even tried to put them in some categories:
    a) FP game-play con's: the combat system is less tactical, which transformed ME-A in a FPS-like game, losing the good old ME trilogy playing. Take an example: your squad mates cannot be ordered too much (you have only one command: gather here, or attack!).
    b) Walking/ running/ jumping. Sometimes stupid obstacles are placed where they shouldn't have been. There is a planet in the game, for exampl, where you need to jump over the given rocks every time you enter/exit the ship. During the game, you need quite often to use the omni-tool scanner, which it may be cool from time to time. Paradoxically, it obstructs your field of view so much while in scanning mode, and you don't know where are you walking to while scanning, so that you might fall into some hazardous situation. So, switching the scanner off- then scanner on for so many times, that you'll get annoyed and sick of it. No to mention that in "scanner on" mode you cannot jump/climb. And, of course, you'll 99% of times bump into a rock, or a fence-like object. As I said, 99% of the times. Scanner off. Climb/ jump. Scanner on. Continue walking while using the scanner. Bump. Off. Climb/Jump. On. Walk. Miss/ pass the objective. Return. Curse. Walk. On. Do something (Interact with the object/ take/ activate). Scanner off. Reach the newly created objective. Scanner on. And so on.
    c) Vehicle game-play con's. Well, it beats the Mako. It is more "drivable". On the other hand, you get tired of it pretty soon. All you have to do is to drive it over some rocks (yeah...), dunes, rocks again, caves. It doesn't have any guns.
    d) Ship ("The Tempest") star navigation con's. Unnecessary animations while scanning the planets or systems. A lot of unnecessary animation each and every time you land and take-off a mission planet. If you are patient enough to read my further comments, you'll get what I mean. Long story short, there are lots of missions that will require you to go several times from a planet to another. Watching the same in-game animation for a zillion times makes you rather unhappy... And no, I am not talking/ writing about loading/ saving screens, those would've been understandable... And not about the short animations like those in ME1, for example. But some minute-long animations each and everytime you move your ship. Evan reaching some planet is a 3 stages animation. You have around 4-5 planets in every system, plus some points of interests. You do the math of how many minutes/ seconds you lose.
    e) Dialogue system con's. Sometimes, talking with the characters is not funny or interesting. You need to go through several conversational options, without making you getting motivated in the given NPC's or other in game character's story. Some are veeeeeery boring. And you cannot say which one is important for the main quest, or just a secondary one, or even a dead end. You need to got through all of them
    f) Romance con's. Well, "the characters" are not as attractive as any of the original trilogy romances. But this is rather subjective. And the choices you would have are somewhat fewer, less fulfilling?
    g) Overall, the missions are like this: fetch something. Go to the planet A. Patiently watch the animation of landing. There, go the a nav-point on the map. Fight some bad guys. Scan objects, interact with some of them. Fight some more bad guys. Go to nav point 2. Fight/ Scan/Fetch/Dialogue. Go to the ship. Watch the animation of the taking-off. Go to the planet B (some animations of the travel). Watch the animation of landing. Go to the nav point one. Fight/ Scan/Fetch/Dialogue. Go to the Nav point 2. Climb, jump, drive the vehicle. Fight/ Scan/Fetch/Dialogue. Go back to the Nav point 1. Fight/ Scan/Fetch/Dialogue. Go to the ship. Take- Off. Animations, of course. Inside the ship: fetch/dialogue or use the messy R&D console. Go to the planet C. Animations. Watch the landing animation. Go to the Nav point 1. Dialogue, buy. Go to the nav point 2 (with some map transitions, depending on the planet). Climb. Jump. Fight/ Scan/Fetch/Dialogue. Go to the ship. Watch taking-off animation.. Go to the planet D.... You got the point.
    h) Character development, relationships, dialogues. con's. The content is not as profound, meaningful as I expected it to be. Playing ME-A, I didn't really care about my friendships or romance relationship. They were just.... there. I am a "completionist", this being the only reason I let them happen, given the associated quests (Loyalty missions), not that I really was emotionally oriented to any of the squad mates.
    i) The story is weak. For a comparison, imagine that the original ME trilogy would have been a story about the ME 1 geth conflict, the goal of the game being to kill their boss. 5/10

Was this game perfect? Absolutely not, far from it. The graphics were kinda dated, the story was a little lack luster, and the animations were absolutely dreadful and an absolute disgrace for any developer who dares call themselves AAA.
But there were a ton of new mechanics, new species of aliens, and fun times to be had in this game. The story was still somewhat captivating and I genuinely had fun with it.
However, Bioware has fallen under the choking grip of the overly SJW and greedy EA and this showed for this game.
The graphics were dated and looked like they were a few years old at launch because EA had to cut corners for maximum profit. The animations were some of the worst done this decade and whoever the lead animator was needs to be fired and never let back into the gaming industry because they clearly either dont have a degree in animation, the ambition to make a good game, or eyes to see how dreadful their work was. Also if you are looking to enjoy the romances in this game as much as in the past 3, you will be greatly disappointed. If you are looking to date the guy companions, you wont be too sad for they seemed somewhat fleshed out and enjoyable. But anyone looking to romance a female companion, good luck buddy. None of them are aesthetically pleasing, and only one has an enjoyable personality.

Overall, If i had known what i know now, I would still buy this game. However, it has next to no replay value.

-Almost everyone is unpleasant to look at.
-Dialogue does the job but feels uninspired and sometimes cringy.
-After ME3 these flight animations feel like forever and the hubs are not designed for ease of access to the ship. Overall a lot more time spent waiting than in ME3.
-Side quests are not very meaningful and feel forced just to add more "depth" to the world. There is just so much more stuff to do and while that is not necessarily a bad thing if you are into that style of gameplay it does not add much else for the others who were expecting meaningful interactions like the ones found in the trilogy.

So... if you were expecting another ME game you will be disappointed but if you dont mind Oblivion style faces/animations/dialogue and havent played the main trilogy then by all means give this a go. After all that it is one of the free games on Origin Access which is only $5 and includes the original trilogy.

+ Good crew...not as good as ME2/ME3, but still has that "Bioware magic" to it. Vectra, Pee Bee, Jaal...are excellent additions, on par with best in series.

+ Some very good quests ( mostly companion related), Ryder backstory, and good main story moments

    + Galaxy map

    - The game still has some significant performance/glitches issues. I've played it years after release, while it's nothing too offensive, it's noticeable game came out in a rough state

    - Too big for it's own good...bit too many "fetch quests", Kadara and Elaaden feel a bit rushed.

    - NPC models, some scenes and facial animations ( memes are absolutely overblown and while it's better than in most rpgs, it's not on par with previous games)

    The good:
    - the best looking Mass Effect by far
    - the main story was surprisingly good
    - the ending was really well done - gameplay wise and story wise. Feels like they learned from ME3
    - at times the dialogue was great
    - enjoyed the Angara as a new species
    - Ryder's combat is pretty fun - enjoyed many of the moves and getting guns to my liking (for example super high damage sniper, high ammo assault rifle, flamethrower, concusive shot, etc)
    - Really like some of the new squad mates - Drack, Jaal, Cora, Kallo, Suvi

    The okay:
    - Music - a bit more orchestral and for some reason I just didn't feel it the way I did in the original trilogy. Listening to the soundtrack online I feel that I should have enjoyed it more but it just didn't come through in the game.
    - Animations - I feel like it's a bit overblown but there were def some animation issues one of the odder ones was Ryder over-rotating his head during conversations.
    - The Nomad - fun to drive but without any weapons that's all there is. It doesn't feel great to constantly drive to the fight and exit the vehicle. Also fast travel cuts out a lot of the driving.
    - Too much copy paste with non-humans. All non-human races looked virtually identical - just color swaps. A bit of this makes sense but there was often no variation besides color
    - Dialogue was at times cringe-worthy, oddly spaced (lots of nothing new - sometimes when it seems a particular character should have something to say.)
    - Some meh squadmates:
Liam -awkward mix of goofy and serious
Gil - weird sense of humor and dialogue
Lexi - maybe it was just my play-through but there's little interaction/ dialogue with her (I would talk
to the crew often between missions/side-missions and very rarely did she say anything new.)
Peebee - at times fun and endearing but often annoying.

    The bad:
    - LOTS of technical issues - broken enemy spawns (frozen/mid-air), weird visual bugs, warping into pillars, game crashed once. Luckily I was able to reload previous auto-saves the few times it was game breaking but there was definitely lots of issues that got more noticeable as the game went on.
    - No ability control of squadmates... missed this so much. I loved coordinating this is ME1-3
    - Vetra... didn't enjoying fighting or dialogue with her. Felt especially bad as Garrus was so much fun in the original trilogy.
    - Felt similar to the Force Awakens where they tried to carbon copy the original. aka Nexus = Citadel, kett = reapers, the night clubs, etc. At times it felt familiar in a bad way
    - the GRIND. A lot of content in the game felt like padding, mining was terrible / annoying, lots of fetch missions, lots of backtracking, way too much time spent on the outpost planets. The game dragged horribly at certain points.

It's sad to feel like if they had removed content this game would be better. For Mass Effect fans I think it's worth playing but focus on the main story as much as you can and try to avoid the endless grind.

I took a risk buying this game given its negative reviews about its bugs. It seems like most of the launch issues with the game have been resolved.

The game itself is quite enjoyable. It feels more like a space version of the Witcher 3 in that quests are unique instead of the generic copy-paste quests of Oblivion / Skyrim. So in other words, it's a more serious version of Borderlands.

The story was still incredibly repetitive and bland compared to the Witcher games, but the FPS gameplay is more enjoyable.

I probably hit a major bug every 10 hours that either crashed my game or required me to get creative with certain quests, so I can see the frustration with them.

Still overall, it's one of the more enjoyable games of its genre.

Je to otravné, nudné a zbytečně tím člověk zabíjí čas.

Most of gamers like to feel as "themselves" when playing and RPG games and MASS EFFECT Andromeda does exactly the opposit, it puts the player in the skin of a "ship" when we all want to be the "wolf".

if you compare this "new commander" to Shephard (god forgive me), all you have is an imbecile unable to "talk back" when people say he/she is wrong, most of decisions you have to make try to acommodate "everyone's" wants and needs and that is BAD, you cannot favor or criticise races in the game and everything revolves around a very weak storyline. Scre* this game, do NOT waste your money on SJW propaganda.

This game is underestimated, but have for what. As pros, this is totally new galaxy to explore, new races, new planets etc. The game have good graphics and a lot new ideas, but the game haven't good story, and majority of quests is simple. This game is for one, maybe two times to walktrough, not more, 3rd time getting totally boring. Anyway I had fun and good emotes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mass Effect Andromeda had so much potential and they screw it up. The facial animations is crap, the engine they used is crap for this kind of game, the quests feel repetitive and boring. The world design is boring and feels empty of anything actually interesting. I somehow forced myself to finish this game. I did enjoy the game play somewhat... when it doesn't glitch me into something. I especially love it when the characters just start T-Posing. I had hoped that many things would be rectified in patches and in the quarian ark DLC that was hinted at the end of the game (which was scrapped), but no. I would not buy this, as support for single player has ended a long time ago and it is still trash.

In summary the game is big, some characters are interesting, and I love the combat system. The new species were also interesting. the combat, i love. However, there are too many cons for me to recommend this game.

Mass Effect Andromeda was a complete disgrace... The compelling superb story and lovable squad mates from the trilogy were long gone in this instalment... You feel completely detached from the major characters... Bioware is dead.... RIP... (and to think they killed Mass Effect because of Anthem?? is even worse) they killed my most favorite game franchise...

But the game hits a point where it starts to drag, and drag, and drag, forcing you to slog through a seemingly endless mire of uninteresting content just to get to a few good moments. Definitely an example of a game which really shouldn't have been open world. Memorable character arcs and story missions are painfully few and far between once the game really gets under way. And there are only so many random encounters and "scan six items" side quests you can do before you just start blowing through everything in a desperate bid to get to the rest of the damn good stuff. Then, after all that slog, the main plot fails to deliver anything close to the dramatic conclusion offered by earlier games. Don't hold your breath for a heart-pounding suicide mission here. The game just sort of... ends, leaving little more than a sense of "oh, that was it?" Expand

Great graphics though not as much soul as the previous series. Just playing the intro of the original Mass effect tells you every thing that this game is missing. I know its 2021 and this is a four year old game but Mass Effect Andromeda is an example of a decent game being killed off by gamers/reviewers expecting too much. Instead of reviewing the game for what it is people reviewed the game for what they were expecting it to be. I agree it doesn't hold a candle to the original trilogy but that doesn't mean its a bad game. Companies like EAI know its 2021 and this is a four year old game but Mass Effect Andromeda is an example of a decent game being killed off by gamers/reviewers expecting too much. Instead of reviewing the game for what it is people reviewed the game for what they were expecting it to be. I agree it doesn't hold a candle to the original trilogy but that doesn't mean its a bad game. Companies like EA don't care about fan bases they care about their bottom line. So when a game launches and people start writing negative reviews about things like facial expressions and "ME2 was so much better" "The characters aren't as pretty" etc. EA only notices the negative reviews. If people actually reviewed the game with an open mind instead of comparing it to the trilogy or focusing on trivial things like facial expressions (later patched) we would have seen more effort put into this game. Bioware is known for their DLC. Looking back at ME2 and ME3 the DLC for that game was great. Perhaps if EA didn't toss the game away within weeks of the launch due to people whining over stupid things we would have actually seen some DLC added to this game instead of just some overpriced cosmetic crap for Multiplayer. Thankfully there is another Mass Effect game in the works and EA didn't just dump Bioware like they are accustomed to doing and much like Andromeda I will go into it with an open mind and not expect it to be Mass Effect 4. I realize these things can be subjective but just scroll through the negative reviews and see what people complained about.. I'm not exaggerating when I say everyone was concerned about trivial things. Writing negative reviews because all the female characters aren't supermodels or some of the animations are broken etc have consequences not only on the developers but also on the gamer in general. Mass Effect Andromeda is a good game. It could have been great had gamers not immediately dismissed it out of the gate. Expand

This really seems to come down to your expectations. If you're a hardcore ME fan you may very well not like it (and there's nothing wrong with that). If this is your 1st ME game, it's a pretty good introduction, even if it's not the strongest in the history of gaming.

While I kind of enjoyed it, It definitely didn't live up to my expectations in terms of story. Maybe that's just because of my fondness for the OT, maybe not.

So yh, while not a bad game, I can't say this is a good game either. I'd recommend to someone who hasn't played the OT and doesn't mind some bugs, and some pretty sub-par but at times hilarious animations.

I don't think I'd recommend to a casual ME fan though, only the hardcore so to speak.

But meh, this is just some idiots opinion.

    Pros:
Sci-Fi adventure in space. Lots of ground to cover, freedom of movement. Vehicle is a decent mode of transportation this time. Skyboxes of planets are amazing so driving around the alien planet and just looking at it is quite fun. There is a decent horde mode multiplayer. Few companion characters are memorable.

Cons: Much, much weaker than any of the original games as far as story and characters go. Nothing even comes close to Harbinger lines and the general feeling of ME1, squad of ME2 or atmosphere doom and gloom in ME3. Technical issues are apparent though you will learn to ignore those pretty fast. Some writers push their political agenda in most obvious and appalling manner.

    - Engaging combat lots of skills to explore and customize.

    - New Alien species
    - Characters are interesting, atleast your companions!
    - Part of the story is actually very interesting!
    - Jetpack!
    - Much lore to discover.

    Mixed:
    - The scanner, It is partly fun to use, but much of the scanning consists of completely unnecessary information.
    - Puzzles, can be both fun and repetive, overall its OK i guess.
    - I like the story but not a special part of it. (will not spoil)
    - The mechanics, we are in 2017, I think they should have developed the gameplay significantly in 5 years but I was wrong, it feels OK.

    Cons:
    - Animation feels strange and some characters can sometimes look completely retarded.
    - "character customization" is not what it says, you can choose from some preset faces and only change the nose and hair, other than that nope.
    - Expressions in dialogues may feel a little weird sometimes.
    - Bugs, not too many, but when it happens too often you become irritated.
    - The World doesn't feel "living".

Andromeda is a fun game but needs to be polished. The mechanics and the animation could be better and it would be good if the development team fixed the bugs as soon as possible. Just then I had been able to give the game a higher rating. I think that the good outweighs the bad, so give it a chance to play anyway!

    Pros:

    - Frostbite engine is a very good, is efficient, I like it. It has improved a lot since DA:I.

    - All that is not a character looks very good.

    - It can be played without being installed an SSD, which is great since it eats a lot of space.

    - Combat mechanics are good, not spectacular, but good.

    - Open world(s) gameplay is a nice change, it has flaws but not because it's open world.

    - Nice weapon building mechanics.

    - Love that the mako is back (even without guns).

    Cons:

1 - You can only use 3 abilities.

2 - The story world building does not have the quality of the previous titles.

3 - The dialogs are childish, they look focused for teenager kids. They don't curse for instance. You will be hitting SPACE a lot even the first time you read the lines.

4 - No renegade options, the main character cannot be a douche, no matter which option you choose.

5 - The main character script does not change whether your character is male or female, making it weird because the female character feels like a boy and the male like a sissy.

6 - The space activities are simplified yet again, no fuel, the scan is even simpler. Basically they removed this part of the game. Pretty similar to ME3.

7 - Character models are really bad, ME1 was a lot better, in fact is the worst I've seen.

7a - My Face is Tired syndrome. **Thunderbirds TV series had better face animations**. Eyebrows and eyes are not animated at all, they don't move, never. After a while I developed a constant SPACE hitting rampage because it really annoys a lot.

7b - The character face editor has very few options to tweak but what is worst is that the face presets are really bad.

7c - The default male character looks like if it had all the sliders in the middle, it does not have a personality. The Sheppard face comes from a real person and you can feel it or like the Geralt in the Witcher 3. The female has some personality but they didn't do it right and the face proportions are all wrong.

8 - Some bugs, for instance if you save when enemies are near, the enemies will disappear when you load the game back. You can skip a lot of content that way. Also if you can kill one enemy with a single shot with the sniper rifle the others will not aggro, no matter how close they are.

Ryder, unlike Shepard, is a set character with a set personality. Ryder is a nice person who can either be emotional, intelligent, jovial or snarky. You can only affect their attitude in certain situations, not their personality. Don't even get me started on how ugly everybody (especially the females) look. The combat is alright but not enough to salvage this game. I bought this game on the Bioware/Mass effect name, I will not make that mistake again.

If mass effect was a Drama of cosmic scale which kept player emotionally invested through it's run, this is a casual weekday sitcom full of unfunny jokes where the crowd laughs so that you don't have to.

Game is supposedly full of content, but that content is a joke. Side mini-games which simply extend the hours spent in-game but adds nothing to the over-arching narrative or world building. Only mildly interesting concept I've came across was Angara race. And I could argue this was poorly done.

No EDI trying to find out what it is to be human.
    No Rannoch
    No imposing villains like Soverign
No badass characters like illusive man.

Nothing. Just .. action sequences which I frankly don't care really, with some made up narrative to justify it. And when everything is done in plastic looking graphics, there is nothing else to pick on or criticize other than animations. Because game doesn't have anything else in it.

    Disappointment.

ME:A is all over the place. In the 38 hours I've played, I've found that it covers the full range: sometimes the game feels like a well-oiled machine, other times it feels like a complete cluster****, but the majority of the time it feels a decent game that had the potential to be much better than it is and just needed more time and polish to achieve it. Combat is solid, fantastic even. The "main story" is pretty weak and is filled with cliches. The facial animations can be as bad as some people have noted, and there is some pretty cringeworthy dialogue at times. The music is just fair, but the audio itself is superb for the most part.

As far as bugs, the only one I've had to deal with involved some sort of conflict between Logitech's gaming software and ME:A. It was causing horrible audio and visual stuttering and latency which built up over time. The moment I turned off the software, however, the game began running flawlessly. (I play on PC in 1440p Ultra.) I've yet to encounter any significant in-game bugs. And, I've not suffered a single crash or freeze.

This game deserves a 6.5 or 7 out of 10 as is, but I do believe it could be patched up to an 8 (this may be a stretch) if they can fix some of the creepier facial animation, weird camera angles, and audio bugs.

Definitely recommended, especially if you don't expect it to be as cyberpunkish as previous instalments. It has the best of Mass Effect's previous iterations, from galactic planet discovery and resource gathering to granular exploration of new lands and cultures. The game is beautifully created, has a massive story line and seemingly never-ending quests. Once you get the hang of the controls after a few hours, the fight sequences are enjoyable and challenging (depending on your preferred game difficulty setting), and are broken up reasonably among political & exploratory content so as not to be overwhelming.

If I feel like flying through the galaxy and looking at pretty stars and stellar formations, I have that option to do so. If I'm in the mood to casually stroll around a starship or planet, I'm welcome to do so on a whim. If I want to explode green alien heads, my sniper rifle is at the ready in a click.

My only two complaints are 1) The fact that the characters are somehow able to travel through the Andromeda galaxy without mass relays - a plot hole which I can look beyond to enjoy the plot of the new game, and 2) Neither male nor female characters seem particularly appealing for the sake of pursuing an in-game relationship, but at least there are plenty of options, plus, the character interactions are comedic and entertaining even if the romances are a bit trite.

If there were initial bugs to the game, I assume they must have been fixed since I haven't had any problems with quests. Some of the animations are still imperfect, but this is a video game and I don't expect 100 hours of content to have been filmed via motion capture.

Long story short, I hope the initial bad reviews start to wash away. This game was obviously built to be the first chapter in an evolving story, so I would hate to not have an opportunity to play another. God speed, Bioware!

Twins idea was good, but almost not implemented in the story. Writing is awful, Faces, expressions and (too) many of voiceating doesn't fit the situation characters are in, leading to a broken atmosphere. Last but not least, it's buggy to the death in every aspect. It's not a 0 because they improved again the combat system from ME3.

TL;DR- This game is bad, but if you are a fan and don't really care about problems, you'll probably love this game. Buy Mass Effect 1 instead.

This game only has one thing going for it, and that's the combat. But even that isn't good enough to hold this game up; with buggy characters and cut scenes, audio problems, multiple crashes, s-s-s-s-stuttering, boring and uninteresting enemies, story, and motivations, barren worlds that hold small boring huts that you can shoot people at, shoe horned in "loyalty missions", a forgetful soundtrack, and conflicts that feel more like a melodramatic play put on my freshman theater kids rather than an epic space opera, this game disappoints at every single turn.

Oh, and if you are a fan of decisions, this game has none. Or at least, none that matter. Or if you are a fan of making a customized character, good luck with that, as the character creation tools are more limited than Bethesda games are buggy, as well as only having 3 hot-keys for abilities.

Think of it this way, the Andromeda Initiative started at the end of Mass Effect 1. The game play and graphics are still from that time period (except that this is real life), and they might have picked up some ME2 improvements before they left.

Overall: I enjoy this game a lot because I loved ME1 and there is a of it's soul in Andromeda. However, I wouldn't recommend you buy until this game goes on sale. I'd say a price point of $30 is more appropriate for such an unpolished, AAA Title.

Played all three ME games in the trilogy, the first two at length (100+ hours, multiple playthroughs), and the rest of the Bioware lineup (Jade Empire, KOTOR, Dragon Age: O).

And let me say it's a shame this game got the review bomb it got. Whilst I do not contest the amount of bugs the game has, I don't feel like that should entirely bring down the score. Underneath there is a lot of attention to detail, a storyline that is mostly crafted through gameplay (helping the people survive on their new home, sorting out their problems), which was a step-up from everything boiling down to firefights with a paragon or renegade dialogue option at the end like in the previous games.

The visuals are simply stunning, and the game manages to uphold a excellent level of performance. Was able to run it 80-120 fps on Ultra settings, 1080p on a GTX 1070 + i5-4670K (4.3ghz, 2400CL11 memory) with Adative V-sync. Driving through Kadar, standing on the mountaintops gave me that feeling of the Original Mako sections in ME1 which were in my opinion the best sections, albeit devoid of content. Which isn't the case in Andromeda.

Dialogue is hit or miss, it feels like the quality depends on who wrote it. Some of it is vapid, but some of it feels genuine and engaging. Barring a few remarks I do not agree it has a lot of SJW rethoric riddled through it. The overal storyarch is cannon, but honestly it's been done to death and as a sci-fi show nerd I'd be hardpressed if they found a new angle to coax up a spacevillian.

The bugs are, to be honest, the reason this game is only a 7/10. They are present enough to be a genuine nuisance, even if you're not looking for material on a glitch compilation video. The most eggregious are mostly evolved around SAM, your AI. It also counts as a gateway to tutorials, but it doesn't know when to shut up. It repeats the same dialogue options over and over again. That you can mine this area, that you entered a hostile enviroment, that there are enemies, etc. SAM should get a mute button, or have him exhaust dialogue only once. On the same note, quest dialogue options also never exhaust, so i'm pretty sure it's a glitch throughout the entire game. When you re-enter an area that was used for a quest, the same dialogue starts again. This needs a FIX asap, because it shatters suspension of disbelief and ruins immersion.

The rest are minor quality of life bugs, and less frequent. NPC's snapping into spots, t-posing, allies flying in the air, enemies stuck in scenery. Etc. As for the Animations and lipsyncing, a lot of it has to do with keyboard controls ruining the availability of the animation transitions. Like being able to spam A and D makes the legs to crazy, whereas you can't do this on a controller. It's an oversight. The facial animations were already changed a little when I played it (eyes etc), and honestly it was just like any other Bioware game. So why this all of a sudden caused the internet to go crazy beats me. Just don't use the default 'femshep', make a custom one, and you won't have those "Alec is dead?" moments.

Some good and bad, "deputy likes dots".
    + Visuals, performance.
+ Interactions with crewmembers is on ME2 level.
    + Story through gameplay

    - Overly sappy dialogue options without alternatives of the "it's going to be ok" variety.
    - Dialogue options not exhausting
    - Rest of the bugs
    - Repetitive sidemissions at some point.

Overall this feels like it could've used some extra love and care, and I hope EA/Bioware give it despite the review bombing. It would help them revive some of their credibility. As underneath it's a pretty good game, but the bugs and rough edges drag it down severely. As this is a game mostly about immersion, if a character you're having a conversation with glitches into the floor, it shatters your suspension of disbelief and ruins the experience.

Give it some more love Bioware, and make SAM shut up.

Now to the what was "average" in the game
Most of the characters where average, the planet exploration was okay, but everything was way too far apart and had a lot of "dead space" multiplayer was passable.

And last but least what was terrible in the game.
Animations, both facial and body animations were terrible outside of combat, my character refused to watch the person I was talking to the eyes where all over the place (really distracting to me) the travelling in the galaxy was garbage (got a little bit fix after the patch) missions boring also every mission felt the same, story predictable (added bonus trailer had a HUGE spoiler) main character was bland.
Was this a total garbage game, no. But giving the game a zero is too much. I will make a new review once the game is fixed but until I think it's 5/10
Not sure who dropped the ball, but knowing EA, it's probably them wouldn't be the first time EA said to release a unfinished game.

For the bad points: it's not biowares best writing, but I also think people hold biowares writing too high, and I say this as a huge fan of bioware. Like Mass Effect 3, they really shove who they want your character to be onto you. In 3, they want you to have a serious Shepard and for Andromeda they want you to have a silly Ryder. Sure, it gives you serious dialogue but in all the places you can't choose what to say, Ryder is laid back and fooling around. Your choices while hard have little consequence, mostly just changing who shows up at the final battle , there are game breaking bugs and the final battle was dissapointing. Another thing is that if you don't choose the default Ryder the facial animations aren't bad, they're fine...but often Ryder isn't hugely expressive in their face. I think there only being 2 alien races is fine considering there aren't Mass Relays to fling everyone around. The reapers manipulated people to find the citadel...we don't HAVE that in Andromeda. Having few aliens makes sense.
All this being said, I loved playing it. Despite it's writing flaws, the story was still interesting. Your crew was complex and interesting. Some of them hate each other which make car rides interesting. It has glaring flaws but it's not 'the fall of bioware' or 'a stain of the industry' like people are saying.

I've only got one big gripe with the game and that's that I can only equip 3 skills in combat. That is something that's really detrimental to my enjoyment of the game, seeing how you've got 24 active skills to pick from while you can only ever have 3 equipped. But that's it.

You can see there was a lot of work put into the game but without the a good core story and well written characters, it fails to pull me into it or let alone even care about it. The writing is so painful, I avoid conversations with my main crew members. I feel no connection to them unlike the previous titles, which I would make every effort to get everyone on board. With the story, if feels so off the cuff, matter of fact, when you just met a new offworld species. It is not convincing and throws you off. Are there any bad choices? I feel like there is no real importance to any decisions you make. Your just "following the trigger script" to progress the game. The question is, should a person invest 100+ hours playing something, just because or should I continue playing, just to finish it. There are extremes reviews of flat out bashing or outright praising. I think the review sites are fair at saying this is a 6/10. You can see there was allot of work put into it but it is way, WAY over-reaching, as far as what really matters to make this a fun game to play or even care about. Expand

This is a worthy successor to the original Mass Effect trilogy and does a great job at introducing the new setting and problems that will be faced throughout the Andromeda games.

There are a few things that are different from the original trilogy that some players may like or dislike. First is the absence of the paragon system, which I found liberating. The choices I made actually felt like I made them. I did what I thought was best for my team without the guidance of trying to stay into preset parameters of good and evil. The second is the ability to change classes on the fly. No longer are you required to pick a class and stick with it throughout the whole game. I believe the way they implemented this in the game, and made it part of the lore, was really well done. Third is that you can no longer can really command your companions, you have no choice over their equipment, you can tell them to attack and that's really about it.

Now that some of the bigger changes are out of the way, I will just hit on what I liked and disliked about the game.

The game play is the best in the series. I mean the running, jumping, shooting all feels very satisfying. It plays like a full blown cover shooter now, and less like a KOTOR game. It works very well and everything fills natural, but if you were into more of the RPG element of the game, then that's all just about gone. Combat is fast and fluid with abilities having to be mapped to active buttons, there's no pausing and wheeling a specific ability or weapon, it's all done in real time. The game is VERY open. You have main story missions but the game spends no time opening up the galaxy and saying go explore, create your own path. Unfortunately, I believe this hinders one of Mass Effects previous best points - the story telling. If you choose to just follow the main story, which is possible, you miss a lot. I mean a lot. Andromeda's best missions, and most fleshed out story telling, are side quests (particularly the crew relationship quest lines) and it's a shame that in Biowares haste to make an open world game, they allow the user to bypass the best parts of the game.

Now for the facial animations. The facial animations aren't bad, especially if you are playing the male Ryder, but they aren't great either. I do think Andromeda's lack of polish is what holds it back from being the GREAT game it could have been, but the animation is average. It's somehow worse than Dragon Age Inquisition which is three years older and much worse than the great animation of Witcher 3, but it's not so bad that it's distracting (or at least you shouldn't be distracted by it).

In conclusion Andromeda is a solid game, that misses being great because of a lack of polish. It's still fun, and should make you excited for the next game, if you truly like the franchise. It's worth playing.

TL;DR: In my opinion, it's not the best Mass Effect. But it's still a solid game. This Mass Effect deserves criticism, but not that much.

(Sorry, English isn't my native language) I've always been a fan of Bioware games. Bought every single game since KOTOR 1. My first Mass Effect was Mass Effect 2, I bought it on Steam during a sale, "Let's give it a try !" I finished the game in 4

I finished the game in 4 days. 8 hours/day, I finished it in ~ 31 hours. Then, bought Mass Effect 3 and finished it in 30 hours. Then, I did the same with Mass Effect 1. KOTOR was my favourite game, until I met Mass Effect 3. So, as you can see, I'm a fan.

Let's talk about Andromeda. I used the Origin Access to try this one. After the 5 hours of single-player, I was unsure what to do. It was fun enough to play, but it seemed a little generic.
I decided to give it a try. And the start was just like Dragon Age Inquisition : the first hours were boring for me. Just boring, no other words. But I decided to play it anyway (after all, I paid it !)

    Let's talk about :

-Facial animations : They were bad (I mean, REALLY bad) before patch 1.05, and now they seem to be ok (hadn't played it after this patch).
The environments are great though. Even with my crappy GPU, with a mix of low-medium graphics, my eyes were having a good time.

-Characters : many people consider these characters "bland". There is NO bland character, BUT there is no "Garrus-esque" character neither. Character development is nice, everything was realistic enough to "live" in this world.

-Romances : I did only romance 1 character. Good one, not perfect, but I can't say if the other are as good as my romance.

-Gameplay : Better than Mass Effect 3. The jetpack is neat, the ennemies are a threat even in normal. Everything is good, except the AI. The AI is really dumb, but they throw enough ennemies so that you don't rush in like a madman.

-Story : Weeeeeeell. It's okay. Not bad nor great. I just don't like how they made the bad guy. He is a bad guy "cuz 'n stuff" I guess ? I think (and I hope) they will develop his motives in future games/DLCs.

-Quests : Main quest is okay, friends-quests are great, side-quests are... better than Dragon Age ones. It depends a lot of the side quest. But sure, most of the time, they did better than those "Collect 10 minerals".

-Multiplayer : Man, that's haaaard even in bronze ! Unless you play with Sniper Rifles/Melee Classes. Funny though.

As I said, ME:A is fun to play. But be aware : if you didn't like Mass Effect 1 -and hated Dragon Age Inquisition-, you probably won't like this one. Personally, after 60 hours (and 75% of the game) played, I enjoyed it a lot. Not as much as Mass Effect 2 or 3, but more than in Mass Effect 1.
The only thing that really threw me off was the light hearted tone. It replaced the relatively dark tone of the other Mass Effects. Sure, they nailed it in the Citadel DLC of ME3, but in this one, that's too much comedy for me. At least I laughed quite a lot :)

There is a lot of game for the money... unfortunately its unpolished, uncomfortable with okay story, okay characters ... "okay" everything.
It's a mediocre RPG with many strange decisions and a step back for the franchise. It's basically a worse version of Inquisition in a different setting.
Both 10's and 0's are equally rediculous....!

Yet another game that can't seem to get something as simple as CPU optimisation right. I have a middle of the range CPU, what that USUALLY says to me is that I can run it at max with perhaps a few settings turned down a little. Namely shadows/lighting which are CPU bound.

What that DOESN'T say is that the game would max out my CPU 100% on every core even when running the game at

What that DOESN'T say is that the game would max out my CPU 100% on every core even when running the game at absolute minimum settings. Absolute JOKE. With everything on minimum my computer can actually run the game at about 120fps. But the stupid game decides that it is still going to dip into the SUB 20s seemingly at random.

Pathetic attempt from a pathetic company. Bioware USED to be a great company but the Bioware that once was is dead.

Now the game itself is actually better than I thought it was going to be. The characters don't annoy me as much as the characters did in previous games. The combat is actually pretty satisfying.

But my god, this game has some problems even beyond the potato faced character models and the crappy animations. Personally don't really care much for the story. Yet another alien race is there to do alien race stuff and humans are trying to colonise another galaxy.

Naturally the alien race gets in the way and the only thing our primitive ape brains come up with it to shoot and vaporise them into submission.

Which I'm actually not even that bothered by. I'll take a crappy story and setting when the gameplay is good and the visuals are good which they definitely are.

But this game has WAY WAY WAY too many problems to be enjoyable. I mean when you have a GTX 1070 and a game is dipping into sub 20 fps there is a BIG f**king problem!!!!!!

Pretty disappointing as to what one should have been expecting as the next big Mass Effect game.

Gun-play, weapon mechanics, and combat are decent. Some of the worlds are beautiful. Atmosphere can be good from time to time. But that's pretty much it about whats good about the game. Everything else is either bland, generic, boring or just flat out bad.

Don't recommend unless you're a die hard mass effect fan but even then maybe you should wait until they're doing patching it or it goes on sale.

Postcard-pretty landscapes is pretty much all that there is good about Andromeda. They serve as backdrops for a boring, cliche-ridden, somewhat demented story with forgettable characters and even more forgettable missions.

Enough of the classic Mass Effect, with enough new mechanics to keep the game fresh. [Hollingworth; Issue#261, p.55]

An earnest attempt has been made to create a new identity for a series here, but the question of how to best frame Mass Effect's narrative strengths is, once again, left open. [June 2017, p.90]
