Left the path of RPGs for the easy way of shooters. Graphics and sound are good, but what's the point of a team if you can't modify weapons and armor for team members ? This is unfortunately nowhere near the original trilogy, but I try to be objective and rate it as a separate game.

Even if we take away the whole burden of being compared to the orignal trilogy, the game still has many flaws that make it less satisfying to play. After all the patching it is still underdeveloped. There are a lot of bugs. Some locations are frustrating because of lack of save points (eg. when you fail in some locations you are forced to repeat last 20 minutes of gameplay, which kinda makes you stop wanna playing). The graphics don't look that good, if you consider the hardware requirements - or the game is just not optimised well. If we consider all of this, 7 is the maximum score I can give. I wonder how bad it was before all the patching. Good that I waited for ver. 1.10.

All in all, I was happy to be back in the world of Mass Effect. It's just a pity that the quality of this comeback was quite average.

It's pretty clear this game ran into a lot of issues in its development, perhaps that should make us more forgiving of its flaws, I don't know. The truth is, this game feels far too familiar. It's pretty clear this game ran into a lot of issues in its development, perhaps that should make us more forgiving of its flaws, I don't know. The truth is, this game feels far too familiar. The new galaxy, the new aliens, the new landscapes all feel like they wouldn't look amiss right here; there is nothing truly alien about it.

The maps are huge empty places, often some variant of a desert (snow desert or almost barren rock land included) which makes sense I suppose because they clearly want you using the Nomad. Thing is, if you don't enjoy riding the Nomad, you will not enjoy a large chunk of the game. Every quest will require you to spend most time completing it in the Nomad. Even when it makes no sense story wise, the game will direct you from one end of the galaxy to the other. Often with little reward for doing so.

The ridiculous amount of sidequests will make you miss linear games, and even the game itself tells you that some are not worth your time (namely tasks but honestly most of the other sidequests can be skipped as well). I know some people are of the idea that sidequest sucking does not matter because they're 'optional' but fact of the matter is, time went into creating these. Time now not spent on the real story content. Not to mention how discouraging an overfull journal can be when you can't predict which sidequests might be worth your while.

This game also tries to cram in more romance options than any Bioware title before, it's a feature the devs were promoting a lot before release. It doesn't help that all of the characters feel a bit bland - besides Reyes there is no possible conflict there besides one sulky dialogue.
These romances are some of the most disappointing once they've written yet, there are really only two that get fleshed out stories (Cora and Jaal) and neither of those felt more content heavy or engaging as some of the older romances did. Other romances seem to be missing scenes (for instance Liam's date cuts off before you see the actual date - this happens several times) and others are almost pointless. The flings should have been cut immediately. Again time wasted on developing those that could have been spent elsewhere.

Like designing more aliens. Or making sure that the very few aliens we get to see aren't all literal clones (it's especially glaring with the Asari of course.) Or maybe fleshing out some of the characters more.

The Ryders are the most preset PCs of any Bioware game. They have only one personality (a jokester because even if you pick serious options throughout all the autodialogue forces you into that role), often only two option to respond - both of which pretty much identical. Their whole background is set in stone as well, even down to their relationship with their father. Even the way they look, it's been slightly improved now but when playing at launch you literally had to pick a preset and you could only change a few things.

The story is boring and rehashes parts of the OT's plot. It is supposed to have the highest stakes yet, but it's told jokingly. There are no meaningful choices, there are no multiple endings possible (well one minor NPC can possibly die), and a major plot thread is only revealed in a fetch quest! Then the story ends with a major cliffhanger that will never be resolved.

Something clearly went wrong, the devs were promising things that never happened (just before release they said the CC was like the one in DA:I so clearly something went wrong), and there are some moments in the game that make you think there really was something there once. Of course the bugs are often too distracting to really feel emerged in the game. I've had some game breaking bugs and *still* have the issue that the cursor shoots to the middle of the screen all the time, even during cutscenes and I can't move it away.

I still enjoyed parts of my playthrough, the combat could be fun, I enjoyed the Reyes romance, brief as it was, I thought Jaal had a real story arc in the game, I loved Havarl (well the way it looked alien at least). But in the end I haven't been able to start a second playthrough because there just isn't enough replay value there. A shame because Bioware games are always my most replayed games.

Too bad we'll never see the series redeem itself.

John Shepard set the bar really high. This is the main problem for this game in my opinion.

There were quests that felt like chores. Many faces looked in fact pretty dull, yes.

But if you are into science-fiction and space then Andromeda is a beautiful place to explore.
Even the story had some funny moments. I enjoyed the 100 hours i played it.

Horrible pacing of content. Most bad things are at the start while most good content is further down the road. Unbearable backtracking and unnecessary loading screens.
On the other hand amazing combat; decent story and graphics; great characters, longevity, multiplayer, personal and crew quests.
Flawed but worth playing. Solid 8.

In terms of background, I played the 3 previous Mass Effect games. I spent about 100 hours on Mass Effect Andromeda, did every quest except 6 secondary ones.

    Pros :

    - graphically awesome, one of best-looking 2017 game : HDR, high resolution textures, lighting and smoke effects...
    - art design : each planet is different and really beautiful.
    - very good Nomad driving : on Voeld, driving on ice feels natural.
    - A few companions are really sweet.
    - Mass Effect universe.
    - Many weapons, armors and powers available.
    - weapons and armors customization.
    - a few interesting side quests.
    - good loyalty missions.
    - Good main quest
    - huge content : 100 hours to complete every aspect of the game.
    - combat is very dynamic.

Cons, from the most important to the less :

    - only 3 powers available in combat : far too restrictive. Or one can use the favorites (1 favorite gathers 3 powers and there are 4 favorites. So, theoretically 12 powers available) but in fact, they are useless because of the cooldown when swapping favorites. Moreover, when the favorite is changed, the power "assault turret" is disabled, the turret disappears ! Bioware limited the number of powers like they did in Dragon Age Inquisition which makes the combats too repetitive : since only 3 powers are available, no variety and strategy is possible. 10 powers would have been adequate, without use of any favorites.

    - No customization and control of the 2 squad mates : one can only tell them "go there" or "attack". Consequently, the combo powers are useless since you can not synchronize the actions. During 100 hours, I managed only 3 combos by luck. Moreover, it is impossible to create a strategy. Finally, I have the impression of playing alone and not be a team leader. Mass Effect 2 combat was more strategy-oriented : one could control every squad mate and optimize the attack. The action could be interrupted by pressing the space key in order to prepare the next action. The pace was slower than in Andromeda but enabled epic combats with numerous enemies. Each combat was unique contrary to Andromeda where every combat looks like the same.

    - Interface is really bad :
    - No mini-map when driving the Nomad, I always have to open the map then exit by pressing escape key twice !
    - To choose the best weapons, it is a nightmare : it is very diffcult to compare the weapons statistics, a table would have been necessary.
    - Moreover, there is nowhere a summary of all your characteristics (weapons, armors...).
    - Finally, when I want to create new weapons/armors and use again the upgrades of my current gear, I must create second weapons/armors, go from the research computer to the equipement locker, un-equip and replace the weapons/armors by the second ones created, break up the weapons/armors which contain the upgrades, go back to the research terminal, create the weapons/armors with the upgrades, go back to the equipement locker to equip the new gear. Easy and optimized !

    - The dialog choices are useless : they are uninspired, don't change anything and do not allow nuances. Many users have complained of childish writing and it is an example.

    - Technically, uneven :
    - the good : works fine most of the time, SLI supported and allows more than 60 fps with 2 GTX1080TI in 4K, everything maxed except anti-aliasing disabled.
    - the bad :
-in Tempest, very bad performance between 20 and 30 fps. In cutscenes 20 fps. In Tempest, it seems that the graphic card calculates not only what is visible but also what is invisible too, in particular the space around the ship. Indeed, around Kadara, fps is very low whereas around Eos, the fps are doubled. And for a mission where there were many debris in space, fps in Tempest were below 10 fps !
-Stutters because a 10 GB swap file is mandatory with SLI enabled : the stutters disappear if the swap file is disabled but the game is instable and crashes when connecting to a terminal or pressing escape key.

    - Many uninteresting secondary quests : fetch that object, find this person...

    - Main story looks like the 3 previous Mass effect plot : Bioware did not run the risk of innovating.

Mass Effect Andomeda could have been the best game of the year if not plagued by many flaws. The worst is the combat : Bioware chose action rather than strategy and variety with more available powers : no wonder that many users complain about repetitiveness. The epic moments are very rare. Moreover, if the game launched before Witcher 3, the childish writing could have been forgiven. But since Witcher 3, the RPG fans have higher expectations in terms of story, maturity, choices : Bioware replicated their regular recipe for Andromeda and of course, it did not work : Bioware did not evolve while the RPG market changed.

To conclude, my note would have been 5 because of many defaults. But I gave 7 because I love Mass Effect universe and most of the companions were really endearing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main problem is the fact that this game focused on making money, by selling it to consoles, everything else derives from that. People that complain about voice not being synced with the lips, are dumb, because it was before release. They patched it before the release. The problem is how most characters are ugly, everyone has retarded eye lashes. Your main female companion and rival is a lesbian ugly trash with 2016 shaved on sides haircut. Why? Because politically correct Bioware. The only cute human is a religious girl, because we're in a game like ME and she's religious. And a scientist, lmao. Men? Men are hot and you can flirt with any of them as a male Ryder. Thanks PC culture. You get a turian female. Wow. Female turian?? And she's the most interesting and "cute". The asari have "fat" looking faces and thus become unattractive, they are boring and bland, unlike the previous games, where I'd chose Liara or any asari dancer, commando, over long haired Miranda and Ashley (well, girls now don't even have long hair).

Ok enough about partners and **** Chat is **** consider Fallout 4 but worse. Fallout had day1 mods because it's Bethesda. So the chat was fixed. This one is more like "retarded comment that makes you look whiny and stupid" or "retarded whiny comment that makes you look like you're trying hard to sound big, but aren't". Basically the kid of the most badass human they had, the dad gives his life for him and he's too **** stupid to be sure of anything, even if you chose the "I am sure" reply, because basically he'll say "I think I'm sure" instead. Because **** comments and long lines where you can read on your huge mother**** 4K screen, nah, we're making this for 900p consoles (yea yea bla bla, consoles have higher resolutions now, I doubt that the numbers you see there, match the actual resolution or that you can actually tell, when you're not sitting 40cm from your monitor like I am, but you are used to ****ty graphics from a distance, on your console). Then you have the issue with high requirements on your PC. Like your CPU is under high load, why? And your GPU kinda, also. Basically they added small physx elements, like the cape on some alien is slowly moving in the wind as you talk to him, to add load on your system so that your graphics aren't way too good compared to their main market : console plebs. Cuz we wouldn't want to upset them, now would we.
Before you say my PC is **** or anything, I run at 1440p maximum settings at 60fps. At 4K the drops are too annoying and the movement seems way to slow and ****ty, even Witcher 3 moves better and dropping from 50 to 40 impacts too much.
Now to the story, linear. Nothing to do, you just follow the quest. Making science and farming over military? At this point I am at, it makes 0 difference. Releasing people from cryogenic stasis? Yea it impacts a lot. NOT IN A IMMERSIVE WAY BUT **** THAT, YOU GOT PERKS LIKE IN DRAGON AGE INQUISITION, WHICH IS GREAT BUT IT'S NOT IMMERSIVE, IT'S ****TY DESIGNED AND YOU MOSTLY HAVE MILITARY PERKS. Thanks Bioware. I'd like it more if our people were stronger or you actually got **** done. Plus I love how the trading works before you meet new races: you got **** you need to pay for even though you're the pathfinder and mostly the only one doing **** or being in danger. So they have connection with independent miners and exiles and what? Are you **** stupid? Either make no traders available from the start and give free gear or **** make more aliens available to trade with from the start. Nah, that would mean they would have to invent a whole new race and a huge new story, how would they make dlc without those? Why explore a system (besides achievement and some ****ty quest) when all you **** get is 40 minerals in a huge **** 20000 km wide planet or you discover a **** vulcano and get 300 exp, a vulcano on a lava filled planet? What the **** what anomaly is that, do you understand what anomaly means?? Or how do you detect 40 **** minerals in an asteroid field or how do you explore a black hole? Basically you have a 10 light years system and your sensor are so good, you find a **** "huge deposit" of 40 **** minerals. Wow. You mine more on the ground, manually, from one vein, and there are several veins. What the **** what is the point of scanning and **** anyway? ME2 you had to get a ****load of materials and used them for research and **** now? Nope. You have a ****ty hand scanner that looks like garbage and blocks your view to scan **** for tech. Nice. The only good thing about it is the combat and multiplayer.

EDIT: They stopped support to this game. There are game breaking bugs, I had to restart my PC after a crash, nothing else would work. You need to reduce graphics just for the sake of the game not crushing and this issue was known for months. Not fixed. **** them and their garbage.

The gameplay is where they really destroyed the game. You don't control teammates, the battles are basically a cover whack-a-mole from easy to hard and the only difference is how many hits the enemies take and how many there are, this makes fights more tedious but not more difficult as you go from easy to hard. There's some stupid additions like platforming segments with unresponsive big clunky 3D characters are just dreadful, the sudoku puzzle mechanic is not terrible but very unoriginal and the vehicle driving through the open world wastelands with nothing of interest in miles and miles are the guidelines on how NOT to make open world games. Mass Effect Andromeda disappoints in almost every major aspect, from lore to story. Total size on my hard-drive (after Patch 1.10): 47.3 GB

+ Nomad is great. Handles and drives well.
+ The planets’ design is fantastic. Great fun to explore.
+ Some of the most beautiful landscapes you’ll see.
    + Great sound design.
+ The Angara are an interesting new species.
+ The new ship, the Tempest, is filled with atmospheric lighting and cool views of space through the many windows (it’s a recon ship, not a warship like the Normandy).
+ Squad-mate banter while exploring in the Nomad. Funny, a lot of it, and it triggers quickly.
+ Jump jets! The levels make good use of them, adding a verticality to exploration and combat that simply wasn’t there in previous Mass Effect games, and is a welcome addition.

+/- Enemy AI is quick to flank. Otherwise, dumb as a rock.
+/- Characters are a mixed bag. Scott / Sara are betas who take make sure everyone is comfortable, and rarely get the chance tell someone to go to hell. Peebee, Vetra, Lexi and Jaal feel genuinely different, and are fun to talk to. Drack is a (mostly) funny old krogan, who was angry that I chose to save the salarian pathfinder instead of saving three krogan scouts (it’s not like the Pathfinder is an avatar of the species or anything). Liam’s annoying but is clearly meant to be funny. And Cora… well, Cora trained with asari commandos. That’s all you need to know.

    - In a game about building colonies and creating a new home, I hoped for a little more than, “Do side missions to accumulate randomly assigned ‘viability’ points, go to a location, hold E to settle.”
    - I have logged over 1k hours in Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer. Andromeda’s is built on many of the same principles, but now with jump-jets! It’d be great if the maps weren’t so small and confined. While jump-jetting, am always worried about running into walls, pipes, boxes, other players... Lack of enemy variety was an issue in the single-player campaign, and multi-player highlights the issue even more. In addition to all of this, the netcode is a buggy, laggy mess.
    - Glitches abound, even after the final patch.
    - Corrupted saves.
    - Frequent crashing on loading.
    - Crafting. Cumbersome number of components, poor interface.
    - Combat “profiles.” You can create and choose from up to 4 “profiles,” each of which contains only three skills (from any skill tree). Switch between profiles to access the different skills. But switching to a different profile immediately puts all your skills on cooldown, largely defeating the purpose of switching profiles in combat. Obvious console-itis.
    - The same enemies on every planet. Kett, human pirates, anti-human angara, and a few monsters / animals. Some have extra health to make them bosses. That’s it.
    - Cannot customize squad-mates’ loadout.
    - No pause screen in combat; no tactical interface.
    - The Paragon / Renegade character system is gone with nothing to take its place. It’s hard to meaningfully role-play – which means there’s little reason to replay.
    - SAM (the AI) never shuts up, and frequently cuts off / interrupts squadmate dialogue.
    - All asari have the same face (except squad-mate Peebee).
    - No quarians. There are turians, asari, humans and salarians on the Nexus, irrespective of the status of their Arks. Krogan are present too. Why no quarians?
    - Awful male turian designs.
    - Facial animations are still bad.
    - Generally sub-par voice acting, with a few exceptions.
    - The music soundtrack is nearly invisible.
    - Childish conversation writing.
    - The story works, but never surprises. Perhaps because so much of it is borrowed or rehashed from the previous Mass Effect games. The Kett threat is a retread of the Reaper threat (exaltation = ascension, conversion = indoctrination). The Archon even sounds like the Reapers when he states, “We have exalted countless species.”
    - The outrage over the lack of Quarian DLC isn’t just fan-manufactured. A story involving the Quarian Ark is teased in the final moments of the main story. **** you, BioWare.
    - Poor treatment of Mass Effect lore. Numerous retcons and alterations for no reason.

There are more issues that I could bring up, but I’m limited by space. Worth a purchase at $10, because there are a lot of things to do, the planets are vast, and the combat is fun. But don’t expect a Mass Effect game. I was prepared to give it an 8 or a 9, I was pumped and ready to explore a new galaxy with new characters. 4/10 because instead BioWare gave us a plethora of poor design choices coupled with the boring leftovers of last night’s feast - served cold.

I do believe they would have been better off pruning a lot of the side missions and making a more Theme Park game like the previous ME games were instead of this "your quest log is full with a gazillion quests all over the place". It does make the game lose a lot of tempo and it is hard to keep focus on the main story.

However, it is a beautiful game, the fighting is awesome and the companions are fun. Even if it's not the best in the seriies, it is still well worth getting and much much better than the critics on the internet might have lead you to believe.

This game doesn't really deserve a 10, but it didn't deserve all those 0 and 1 too, so I feel like I should balance them somehow: the real score would be a 6.

    Single player:
The gameplay is fluid and fun, even if sometimes laggy (but hey, looks like my friends didn't get half the bug that I got, so maybe I pushed my PS too far). I HATE open worlds, so I didn't like that aspect, but exploring was funnier than in Dragon Age: Inquisition. I didn't like the random side quests (quests where you have to find a notepad, a corpse, etc., spawned at a random place on the map- Remnant's sites, Roakar sites, etc-.), they're even more boring if you play them after-ending; I probably should've played 'em during the main and the other side quests. The majority of the cutscenes is definitely unpolished and rough, but the important ones are **sometimes** amazing. Some planets are gorgeous, while other are kinda boring- but nothing like those horrible maps in Dragon Age II: you can see that Bioware didn't get enough time to work on this (just read the whole story on Kotaku). Sometimes while talking with NPC they wait too much before going to the next sentence, but I've seen some videos online and that doesn't happen that often on pc version. Wish it had voice acting in my language, but EA probably decided to cut some features- unfortunately sometimes the translation was wrong and plain bad. Unfortunately, NPC don’t usually speak about interesting or personal stuff like they used to do in the other Mass Effect games.
I didn't expected anything from this game because people talked trash about it, but I've kinda appreciated it anyway. So many reviewers all over the net say that this game is bad because of "ugly characters", but every video/article trash-talk different characters (Cora, Peebee, Suvi, mainly women), so maybe they aren't ugly but particular, and that's something nice. ...I would've appreciated a super hot asari like Samara anyway. Don’t trust any review that talks about “SJW **** because that’s nonsense. I didn’t get an “anti-white” feel from this: I’m white and I hate racism (also towards non-POC)- I don’t really understand where some saw it.
The character creator is terrible. It is getting better with updates, but it's nothing like Dragon Age Inquisition's one, and this is pretty sad.
Wish the story was more…new. The concept looks old. Remnants are like Protheans, but looks like they could become something different in the next game…if a next game will be made. There are choices and they are kinda important, especially in the long term (as in a sequel), don’t know what others are talking about. Of course the changes are not immediate and not everything is important, but there are definitely some choices. I have played the game only once (and I do not plan to replay it, I don’t like the idea of more Ryder or more Shepard, I wanna have this as my story), but I think that you can be "renegade"- you won’t see it in this game, but in the next one, as it happened in Mass Effect 1.
It's not a Shepard saga's game, but it's interesting anyway, and I hope that they'll release the DLCs one day.

    Multiplayer:
Boring and based on items that you should buy, and people never save you when you need help. I don't like playing online anyway, so I don't really care.

The game is very unrealistic even for a sci-fi game. Same fauna on every planet, no gravtiation, everyone understands everyone

Plot and quests are boring: When I was sent on the 10th scan this-scan that type of mission I groaned.

Cover-system is very unreliable and clunky.

The would have have been better calling the game just "Andromeda" and dumping the Mass Effect title - they've really done themselves a big disfavour to the franchise - a real shame.

The game itself plays well - the combat is better, the visuals are nice, the atmosphere spot on. There is less 'exploring', ME2 was the best for that i reckon - resources took more effort, exploring felt more rewarding. Still - the planet zones are Big which is great and driving the Nomad is a hoot! Though after the initial explore you just fast travel (a godsend) about to the next quest point.

The questing is a pain - the endless go here / go there quests are very tedious, coupled with the constant loading is just plain abysmal. Fly here, {load} quest done in 3minutes, {load} fly somewhere else {repeat alot}. Why you can't enter the Tempest to check an email without having to launch is just ridiculous. The side quests are really just a distraction - other than unlocking NPC loyalty, there is little reward for completion.
The crafting system is pretty good - crafted gear is actually better than dropped or vendor stuff. Although i now have a bunch of credits with nothing to spend them on. I've also been using the same (upgraded) gear for a long time now - not a lot of flavour really in the gear.
The resource system is pretty pointless, normally i have plenty of resources to craft any gear upgrade so this side of the game doesnt add much.
The APEX missions are of no benefit to the single player game.

Overall, nice game but a real shame for the franchise.

PS - really enjoyed the ending. Nicely leaves it open for next chapter - pity they've canned and more single player content already >.< for andromeda.

I can remember 1 year ago, we witnessed the failure of No Man's Sky and wished this would not be another lie of the trailer. Now the developer proves that they are much less responsible than the No Man's Sky team. They have given up further effort on fixing this mess and this is probably the most thing I am unhappy with.

I cannot say I didn't enjoy my 70 hours. But it is pretty disappointing, and truly a lesson of not pre-ordering the game.

Why do people hate this game? The game motivated me to complete all of its content more than any other game I have ever played. I did literally every side quest and every main story mission. Beat the game, naturally...saw the entire story. I admit, you wont get the entire picture if you don't do ALL of the content, but the primary story line still gives you a glimpse of what is taking place in Andromeda. The game also did a great job setting up the rest of the franchise...well, if people weren't complaining about bugs that happened right after the release of the game...which, lets face it...bugs happen at the launch of literally every blockbuster game since Halo 2. You'd think that people would be used to this.

The environments look great, the lighting and rendering, texture quality and performance were all great in Ultra with a 1080 nvidia graphics card. The explorable portions of the world were vast and traveling around was very quick once you acquire all the shuttle points. I always started the planets by acquiring these points...it just makes everything easier later.

After about 20 hours of gameplay, or 6 hours if you stick to primary story missions, the game really opens up and you can go and do whatever mission you want at any time. There are several different mission types that you can do. Many revolve around relationships or story development, but there are a few unrelated and fun quests mixed in there as well. When I completed the 'movie' mission (you'll know when you get it), I genuinely enjoyed its conclusion because by the time it finished, I had developed a strong connection with the primary characters personalities. This is a huge reason why I scored this game a 10...story and personal relationships with characters.

Gameplay: Awesome! People complain about only being able to use 3 abilities...but you can change these out at any time based on encounter situations. You dont always need to go to a shuttle or your tempest loadout locker just to switch abilities. Im level 64, I have 4 sets of 3 abilities that I swap whenever I feel like it and its totally fine. All you have to do is swap your set! (you will have to figure out how to do that though, lol)

Ui. I will admit, this one took a while to figure out. I thought about downgrading to a 9 because the Ui was pretty rough to get into and fully learn everything thats going on...but in the end i kept a 10 rating because I DID learn it, and it was fine. I did not feel like it was a detriment to the overall experience because when youre in the Ui, youre just kind of dicking around anyway and looking for things. Most inventories in games are **** until you learn it!

The game is great, I very much recommend it for anyone looking for a spacey action rpg with enough story stuff to get you invested in the characters and world.

    Enjoy!

On the plus side - nice exploration and combat.

For an indie game it's okay, if somewhat pricey.

For a AAA Mass Effect game it's very poor.

People scoring it 10 or 1 are taking the piss. It's not that good or that bad.

    It's just okay for £17.

It's just not a full price game. It's just not worthy of The Mass Effect name and certainly not worth a second play through.

Treat it as a cheap generic scifi action RPG produced by a small indie team, none of whom were writers and it is okay for the bargain basement price.

This game is probably, no, easily, the best in the series thanks to the new free-movement combat system, the more relateable characters, and best/most companion missions. It even has the best multiplayer mode. The graphics+engine also blows many other games out of the water.

Are the facial animations bad? Yeah. So what. You get used to that after a couple hours. EDIT: Docked 3 stars

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After finishing the game and the announcement of no additional SP content coming, I'm doing another review.

The positive: The game is solid now. Mostly bugfree and the animations have been fixed for the largest parts.

The mediocre: Story, straight from the rack. Companions, apart from Drack and Peebee, the worst turnout of any Bioware game. In previous games, I couldn't wait to discuss our progress with the companions. In this game I get the feeling of do I really have to talk with that companion again. They're mostly cliche, with Gil sticking out like a sore thumb. He's the virtual gay checklist being ticked off. Gay, female best friend, wants to become a parent, becomes parent with female best friend. When I learned about his story, I was sure, a homophobe had written this. Liam, the guy that even the squadmates despise. So how would the player react differently to this annoying and boring cardboard? Then there's the lead character, Ryder. It's the weakest lead character of any Bioware game. I blame that on the absence of Paragon/Renegade options that doesn't even allow for a snide comeback if your character is outright insulted.

The ugly: Lose quest threads. I don't know what the developers had in mind when the most interesting side quests just lead to nowheren. Specifically the mysterious benefactor and the Garsson murder leave you hanging out to dry. Maybe they planned on producing DLCs to resolve these issues. But we're not getting any, so there's absolutely no incentive for a replay, fully knowing that you won't resolve most of the mysteries.

In short, buy if you're into some shooter action with added puzzles and repetitive environments. Steer clear, if you expect RPG content.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Edit 2: Due to BioWare's recent middle finger to the fanbase, announcing it's focus on books and multiplayer and telling the people who wanted single-player DLC and content to **** off, I will be changing all scores for my ME series reviews to 0.

Edit: Thank you for proving my point, you brigading morons.

Summary - Mass Effect: Andromeda is faithful to the original trilogy, without sacrificing any depth that comes with the monumental task before you. The combat is tight, the animations are FINE despite what the mindless haters are saying (I've yet to notice anything, really) and the worlds, people and story are as deep as you've come to expect if you're already a fan, and very much worth buying if you're new and on the fence. The graphics are absolutely mindblowing, regardless of what specs your running (mostly high w/ frame rate drops here and there). My only complaint is I don't really notice any music, which really stood out in the first 3. Overall, BUY IT, I can't say enough good things about it, and if you like a deep RPG with people to meet and places to see, you will love it.

The game takes place in 2819, 600 someodd years after the original games. In 2185, during the gulf of time between the events of Mass Effect 2 and the beginning of Mass Effect 3, The Nexus, a space station to rival the Citadel shipped off into the dark space between the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxy millions of light years away, flanked by Arks representing the major races (Turian, Asari, Salarian and Human) You are Sara/Scott Ryder, the Daughter/Son of Pathfinder Alec Ryder, sent to find 7 golden worlds to settle. Things aren't as they seem, and **** quickly rockets in the direction of the nearest fan, is all I'll say.

The first thing you're liable to notice outside of the stellar graphics when compared to the "meh" textures in ME3 is the verticality of the gameplay and environment with the edition of jumpjets (or Biotic powers, if you spec for them) which enable for much more frenetic combat. Enemy hiding behind cover? Jump and biotic charge their asses (if Vanguard, for example) The combat is very much fast paced, compared to any previous entries.

In addition to the added versatility, they've brought back the huge honking talent trees from ME1 (Although not as gratuitous with how many levels there are) while mixing them with the branching paths introduced in ME3. Whats more is you are no longer restricted. Sure you pick a starting place, but after that, you can put points in to Tech (Overload, Incinerate, etc), Biotics (Charge, pull, etc) and Combat (Concussive shot, Omni Grenade, and weapon skills) along with the Mass Effect 3 change of a weight-based loadout. Old favorites return (I liked Incinerate and overload for utility) along with newcomers like Lance (A targeted Biotic power that you can land headshots with) and Invasion (Tech power, lowers enemy defense and deals a small bit of damage over a radius) One thing I'd register as a minor draw back is you're limited to 3 powers at once (though this is remedied by the favorites system)

To top it all off, as you invest more points, you unlock interchangeable profiles based on the original classes (Invest in Combat/Biotics to unlock vanguard, whose perks allow you to refill shields by bashing people w/ melee) and you save up to 4 favorite loadouts (3 powers and a profile) to switch to on command with the F1-F4 keys.

I won't go into terrible detail on the planet stuff there is to do, but the exploration of them (Eos, for example) is weaved into the questing experience (which is something I can't say for something like Dragon Age: Inquisition - The Fillering) and eventually, you can choose what kind of outposts to settle after you've raised the Viability. That being said, I could see how it could get boring to some.

Last I'll touch on for fear of a character limit is the people you meet. A cast as diverse as you'd expect from the easy going Liam Kosta, to an insufferable thing named Addison, showcasing most of the races I've come to expect so far, both male and female (and the first 3 games didn't really show a lot of the female's of a given species, except for Eve and Nyreen in 3) The Dialog trees can get a little boring, given how many different things you can ask each character aboard the Tempest alone, but I personally very much love to know the people I'm fighting with, and they are all truly their own people with personalities and pasts. Obligatory mention of the fact that there are a fair few romance options, no matter which gender or orientation you lean towards.

I very much want to give an honorable mention to the mindless hatebots that spurred me to write this, people who in all likelihood haven't even played the game yet, for making big ****fights out of hardly noticeable animation/facial issues (in my time, hardly noticeable, anyway. Downvote away, I know you will.
