Don't wast you time. This genera needs to have a pick counter pick of heroes and items. Play dota and you wont need to pay for those heroes. farther more the latest hero wont be op to reward the people who bought it. Bad game development Blizzard.

+ the amount of toxic people is much less than in DotA / Lol.
+ interesting gameplay, where you have to play as a team, and not be substituted yourself
    + general level
+ talents: various builds on the choice of one or another talent
    + pretty nice graphics
+ maps where you need to perform certain tasks to win

+ minimum donate (yes, yes, it is not necessary to spend real money to buy game characters)
+ free weeks where you can play on characters for free (both on new and old)

Its absolutly laughable how obviously rigged this game is with forced 50% winrate matchmaking, like all blizzard games are now. In fact this game is so bad that Im starting to consider that Blizzard are actually trying their hardest to get people to stop playing so they can finally shut it down. One can only hope that ActivisionBlizzard soon goes under or just keep focusing on mobile games, they are a cancer on the PC platform. Expand

There is not so big skill cap like in Lol, but you need to play well as a team co its perfect to play with bunch of friends and advance in ranks. Also the thing that these characters are from Wow, Diablo and other blizz games makes it more enjoyable.

This is hiden gem of multiplayer games and the biggest surprise i would say. Give it a try this game is not perfect, but its absolutely a lot of fun.

I'm in love with this game. It's amazing, and fun. HOTS has much lower entry barier than dota, matches are by far shorter and high paced, you dont play individually but as a team. No more bad game mechanics of last hitting. The best MOBA out there.

Garbage moba, garbage matchmaking,it;s nothing but a cash grab.
Purposely releasing overpowered heroes so all the 12 year old would get their mom's credit card to buy the latest hero and dominate the battleground and it takes months until they nerf.

the forums bleed with playes asking for the same two things, balance and matchmaking, yet blizzard continues to work on "lore" that makes no sense and throw giant re opening events, only to fall flat when people AFK and leave games since there is no punishment for leaving.
this saddens me as a blizzard fan boy, i have played wow, SC I and II and diablo for years. overwatch is my favorite shooter. too bad blizzard simply sees this sad MOBA as a way to pick up whatever pennies its players are willing to throw their way.

Heroes of the storm is a MOBA game released by Blizzard using iconic characters from their other franchises as the playable heroes
It is made for teens and adults and focuses on the aspects of teamwork and communication that are required in groups.
It competes with the other large MOBAs Dota and League of Legends and though it is the smallest of the 3 it promotes teamwork and cooperation much more than the other 2

As someone who has spent countless hours in Hots I can say that the game itself has very few flaws
The paywalls restricting play of new characters is likely the most tedious and obnoxious flaw the game possesses, it forces you to use the few free rotation of heroes that changes each week to earn gold but this limits your time to improve on these characters and thrusts you into unknowns when forced to swap to new ones when the rotation changes
Different game modes requiring different approaches to the game, quick match and vs Ai are very similar in that you choose the hero you want to play and queue into a match with them whereas the ranked formats and unranked both use a drafting system. Quick match forces you to expect the worst from your teammates or be ready for disappointment, ranked often results in less risky matches where the players fear to make any mistakes should it cause them to lose their precious ranked points and unranked is similar to ranked except with more risk taking as it is view to not matter.
The most challenging part of the game comes initially when your roster of heroes is limited exclusively to the free rotation as unlocking a new hero can take several days of play. The only thing done to alleviate this problem is the variety available in the rotation, it usually contains 2-3 heroes for each role in the game allowing for some options for newer players.

However, despite these negatives the games also contains many positives, the community whilst still containing toxic members is mostly acceptive and willing to help players grasp new concepts. Higher levels of play can open up limitless opportunities to try out unusual and fun strategies that other players would usually berate you for, and the frequent updates and events being added to the game help keep play fresh and exciting.
The map variety allows for different characters to shine of some maps while not being drastically stronger than the rest of the roster. Objective focused teams can lose to enemies who use the team’s tunnel-vision against them and push in multiple locations, yet these strategies won’t be as effective against coordinated teams.
The options in the game allow for changing the graphics settings with higher amounts allowing the character models to fly across the screen when they die, though lower settings are still available for people with computers that aren’t able to handle the higher quality.
Overall, the game can be tough for new players to get into but once past the initial grinding to unlock characters you will be able to enjoy trying out different strategies and characters on the vast selection of maps and objectives the game offers.

Sound-wise, the voices are great (when they learn to st*u. BLESS YOU, HEALER! BLESS YOU, HEALER! I've never been more deterred from healing.), the music is 50-50, and all the sound effects are satisfying.

    Plot. LUL.

Also note this is a MOBA, so all that implies is here: OP hyper-expensive champs, cheap, sh**** champs, weeks of grinding to unlock one decent champ, new champ every other day to drain the wallets of neckbeards and kids with disposable income, garbage balancing, matchmaking pits a first time player with salty top 500 players, blah blah blah, its all here.

In brief, Bliz shows off its trademark polish on all categories. Except gameplay and the usual MOBA business model tropes.

The gamepl- (sorry, the rest of this review is DLC. You can read the rest for just $5.99!)

    *cha-ching*

gameplay wants you to think there is wide variety of champs and styles and builds. There isn't. As with any other MOBA, the DPS tanks with mobility stomp anything in their path. Bliz's twist on this done-to-death genre is controlling a neutral boss/advantage (think Baron Nashor) for a team/morale crushing super power. Some of these powers can be bosses, bosses you can pilot, swarms of creeps, lasers that zap buildings, big variety of things. How do you unleash these pandora boxes? Mostly has to do with standing in a zone and controlling it for 30ish seconds. These 30s are the meat of HOTS' matches. Above any other strategy, build, champ choice, synergy; above all else, controlling these wins the game. So, just go fight for it, right? If only. See, another age-old problem is here.

The (Episode 2 of this review is out now for only $9.99!)

    *cha-ching*

community. Everyone's favorite collective of idiots is alive and well in HOTS. Bad champ choices, not playing tanks/healers, poor engages, chasing across the map into an ambush/turret death, no communication, sh**y connections, flaming, abusing the automated report system (more later), ignoring objectives, not grouping, poor target focus, gorging the enemy to death with their feeding then d/c, oh yeah! Apparently, it's somehow your fault if it happens a lot, according to threads and fanboys. So you go to claim the power. As expected, all 5 of the enemy is there. Looking at the map shows your teammates are either dead, or scattered everywhere. You can either a) rush in and die alone or b) wait for the inevitable. If your team DOES group for it, the opponent has a meat wall of 4-5 high dps, high mobility oafs ready to toss anyone into an event-horizon-blender of CC and DPS. Ofc, you can TRY to reason with your teammates, but they'll just report you. Of all the stupid ideas Bliz learned from Riot, they had to take the fully automated report system which punishes players - NOT BY VIOLATIONS - but by number of reports.

Justice can't be democratic by it's nature, folks.

So assuming any position of callouts, leadership, or polite disagreement can net you a THREE. MONTH. ACCOUNT SILENCE, preventing you from saying anything to anyone for 90+ DAYS. Meanwhile, the guy that called me stuff that I can't repeat here, NOTHING happens to him. Why? Did he not break any rules? No. "Not enough people reported him." Now everyone thinks I'm a jerk b/c I don't talk to them....uh....how do I tell them my account is silenced? Do I just wait for more reports of poor teamwork to pile up? Then what do I do? Bliz could care less. The cash is flowing and flowing. Fanboys beat back these legit concerns with "well dont be toxic then DUH!!" *high fives and Oh's all round*

My last solace is to just have fun in unranked with a champ I like. Unless I crack open my wallet, I'd have to grind. It's about $10ish per hero, or you can save up 10,000 coins. At about 15 coin/25 min game, order some pizza and call in sick, bc u gonna b hur a while, and that's to get ONE. The novelty of each champ wears thin after 3 games, too. Sorry it's just...boring. There's no skill or room for mastery and improvement. You play dps tanks, m2 targets, and mash your 4 buttons. I thought LoL casualized MOBA. HOTS puts LoL to shame. Even LoL had a tiiiiny bit of mastery to it. If you're still curious, I'd say jump in quick, bc HOTS is dying FAST. The queues are taking forever. The last people playing are trolling the chat with politics or watching the pros with their kappa memes bc HOTS is bare-bones BORING.

Bliz knows the game is dying. Begging people to play.

Overpriced champs, dumba* community, sh* balancing, no farming/itemizing, and a garbage report system with a dying community. It would stop if morons would stop pouring cash into these practices.

The matchmaking is usually poor (seems to be a blizzard thing) and worse yet, the games are long with no option to concede. Aside from fanboys that will defend anything about this game, everyone would like the option to quit when you know within 5 minutes that the teams are absolutely rigged either because some players are terrible (or purposefully throwing the game) or because the game decided to give one team a ridiculously stupid composition compared to the other. So when one person leaves and another sits in spawn dancing you can either waste your processor doing it with them or you can go fight and lose for 15-25 minutes, all because they don't want to bother figuring out a way to quit. Or you can leave and get all the penalties they impose. And in this game, if one person is bad, they easily drag the whole team down very quickly just due to the way it plays.

The worst part of the busted matchmaking is that the game will put a full pre-made team- i.e. 5 people who have chosen their heroes to compliment each other and are likely on voice chat- against teams made up of randoms or just 2-3 people on a team. This is almost always a frustrating waste of time and should never happen. Any team with 5 people should be matched against other 5 teams or, at least, 4.

There are many heroes, so many that unless you play this game every day you will probably end up completely lost as to who does what because heroes get changed all the time and there are simply too many to keep track of- again, unless you play this game religiously.

The good news is: it's free. As long as you don't care about cosmetics you will quickly get enough heroes that you'll be okay, even though it will take some time to earn all of them via the game's currency.

The bad news is: it feels like a waste of time because I rarely had any actual fun.

The lack of an item shop keeps gameplay going smoothly, sometimes evolving in the middle of a big fight. There are no passive bonuses earned outside of each map, so no grinding for rune pages or spells.

MINUSES: Quickmatch lacks a draft, meaning a lot of counterplay gets lost; sometimes you wind up with an unwinnable match. Many of the truly innovative heroes like Medivh, Cho'Gall, and Abathur wind up a liability if someone on your team doesn't know how to play with them. Hero pricing has gone down since the 2.0 update in early 2017, but is still a bit high (though you won't have much trouble picking up a hero a week on dailies alone). And lastly, this game *does* have loot boxes; they're mostly cosmetic (occasionally permanently unlocking a Hero for free), but if you're someone whose brain chemistry makes them bothersome, be aware that they're there. I can't give a game with loot boxes a 10/10 in good conscience.

There's also been some complaints about matchmaking, but in my experience that seems to be confined to people with either very high or very low MMR. High end people are rare and difficult to pair effectively, while very bad people typically overestimate their own skill or grief to the point that the game thinks they're worse off than they are.

I've been playing this game on a more-or-less daily for more than two years, so yeah, I'm a fan.

Solo ranked is getting worse by the season and there are no fixes. There was a performance based MMR implemented and then it was removed shortly afterwards with no explanation or estimation when it would be back.

I would rate 8/10 if there was a real matchmaking. Unfortunately, it's based on Elo... When game devs will learn that sucks for team game ranking, it will be a good game.

I changed my note from 2 to 0 since Blizzard seems to let pedophiles use their game to trade and never ban them.

This game can be better. I love the IDEA behind some of their features but be prepared to be frustrated. QM fills like your drawing straws, and feels like it has gotten worst. I have seen a full solo Q of Specialist vs Assassins. How does that happen?? How is that fair? Ranked, you can easily pay for someone who wants to be a troll.

Contrary to what most might think, you can carry pretty hard in this game if you choose the right hero, have enough map knowledge and your teammates aren't intentionally throwing the game. A downside is that some maps are much harder to comeback from a bad early game than others, but it depends much in the draft.

Every role of your team composition is meaningful. Carrying a game as a healer is one of the most satisfying feelings in gaming history. The pacing of the team fights is one the best qualities of the game. The games last about 20 minutes which is more practical than other mobas.

    The main flaws are:
    -The developers keep making unnecessary reworks for heroes;
    -Quick match is absolutely unplayable because of how random team comps get;
    -Player base is kind of small, so it takes too long to search for draft games;
-If you're a new player, buying new heroes takes forever.

After all this time, I'm still addicted to the feeling of making plays in this game. That being said I'm retired from it until the number of players gets significantly bigger, because, right now, I spend more time queuing and drafting than actually playing, which makes losses much more stressful.

This is probably the only game in its genre I'd recommend to anyone besides DOTA, since unlike League/Smite/any of the other numerous clones, it's actually enough of a departure to be unique, instead of just being DOTA with worse balance, less experienced developers, and more pay walls.

However, HOTS is still plagued by the worst parts of those games, most notably the pay walls. Unlike Smite and other games, there's no option to unlock all the heroes in one reasonably priced pack, so to gain access to the full roster you need to either grind out hundreds or probably thousands of games to buy them with the in-game currency, or spend hundreds of dollars to get them all with real money.

Really I think any LOMA without a fully unlocked hero roster is doomed from conception. The business model only allows for two options: either people without the full roster are at a competitive disadvantage, or the roster is drastically less diverse than in DOTA.

Put in the extra time and effort to learn DOTA and you will be rewarded with a truly balanced and endlessly deep game that you can learn and improve at all your life. Stick with HOTS and you'll be stuck in the kiddie pool -- not because this is a marginally easier game to play, but because the design decisions made by the developers necessarily limit your creativity as a player.

This game had potential. I like its design and its production values. But it has many problems that not only have never been addresed, but have become much worse since i began playing during its launch week more than 2 years ago:

    1) Matchmaking. It has the worse matchmaking system in existence. This is because the MMR ratings for each player are broken for various reasons, and while we have given feedback to Blizzard they refuse to fix those issues. This is the first game in my life that i have experienced more retarded teamates as i climbed through the ladder. One would expect that once you become better, your teamates and opponents will be better, but no... You grind your way up to diamond and masters so you can have the priviledge of playing with complete imbeciles on your team

    2) The report system in this game is trash. It is hurting innocent players and it lets criminals get away with "murder". I have been repeatedly penalized for saying to people to stop feeding, getting banned from playing ranked even without calling names. Just criticizing bad picks or bad plays. Blizzard's GMs refuse to even look into my cases and say the penalties are justified. It is somehow forbidden to talk about strategy in this supposedly strategic team game.... Yet many people are allowed to die to towers, feed, troll, troll pick at draft, curse, and nothing happens to them. Also, the abusive chat report options is abusable because it is automatic. It just works on a number of reports, so if someone with his alternate accounts and his friends wants to ruin your account and your real money purchases, he can just mass report your account. Penalty durations double with each iteration, no max duration.

    3) Lack of polish. The game has crashed on numerous occasions, runs very erratically, has an attrocious reconnect system, and very high requirements due to it being essentially a 2 core game.

    4) This is a personal thing for older players, the new loot system with version 2.0 essentially made our previous purchases worthless. Hots used to demand really high prices for cosmetics, and we bought them because there was no other way to buy them. Yet now Blizzard made all cosmetics obtainable by grinding the game, and every free to play player can have access to the same things we paid real money for. This was really unfair for real money players prior to 2.0.

All in all, this could have been a success, but Blizzard management is attrocious and buried their own game with their decisions.

This trend has to die before it spreads, already upcoming Warner Bros game Shadows of War also is including lootboxes, same BS is happening in another Blizzard games - Overwatch and Hearthstone.

Gaming community accepts being treated increasingly worse - fanboyism or plain apathy caused broken games on release - enormous first day patches, a lot of content cut out and resold as "DLC", paying for unfinished games, called "early access", the greedy men in suits push for more - they want gambling! They want your kids to be gambling!!! And if the sheep will ignore this one too, it will happen!

Apart from that, the game itself is very retarded and so is the average player, because for them this game has been designed and marketed.
No items, no gold, no builds, no strategy. Just go in, mash buttons. There are "talents" but they are merely a change of style not a change in power, there are no power spikes whatsoever, there is no individualism.
The worst part of this game is shared EXP system. All team shares level. It is good for utter morons, who are the target community, as it helps even complete failures to be carried to mediocrity.
For good players this system is unacceptable. It keeps you down. It doesn't allow you to shine. No matter what you do, it feels without impact - and so go the matches, they're like slowly moving wall. If you're winning, it doesn't happen fast. This game doesn't respect your skill, it doesn't respect your time. And if you lose, if you are pulled down by morons, it feels like punching a slowly moving concrete wall. Game goes and goes and you got this false hope but because everyone in the enemy team got stat advantage ALL ACROSS THE BOARD you can try and try but eventually lose. There is also no surrender option.
When comparing all kinds of PvP games - DOTA 2, LoL, other MOBAs, CS, Halo, other shooters, whatever.. this game is the most hostile to individual plays and the most catering to morons. Do you enjoy being a digital babysitter to random idiots?

Many maps are recycled, the "strategy" in them all is the same - go to the objective, it is essentially a numbers game, the most people at the ridiculously overpowered objective are present, that team wins.

Strategy in them all is the same, exactly like President Camacho's speech in the movie Idiocracy: "3 point plan to fix everything, Number 1 - we got this guy Not Sure, Number 2 - he got da highest IQ out of anybody, Number 3 - he's gonna fix everything!!!" *wild applause now*
It is the same here: Number 1 - kill minions, collect stuff, Number 2 - deliver collected stuff to temple / checkpoint, whatever, Number 3 - summon big scary monster, big gun or whatever and proceed to kick ass
Bonus point is if you're playing this on Windows 8 or 10 - https://i.pinimg.com/originals/80/5d/d4/805dd41210153c62db3a48eeba6534a4.jpg

The graphics also are crap considering the insanely high system requirements, there are still reports of failures, glitches and low FPS even on the most powerful of gaming PCs.

Also do you love each new hero released to be super-overpowered for a while, for the company to milk money from purchases only to nerf it in oblivion soon before the next hero is released? And this practice constantly repeated? Like it is in League of Legends? This is exactly what happens in this game.

And from the old heroes, the balance is completely wrecked. Some heroes are worse than situational, utter, complete garbage, no reason to pick them, others are super OP and can do good in nearly every game, every scenario. And no - that is not addressed.

There is also an influx of retarded pop-culture inspired cancer "heroes" from Overwatch, them in the same game with well-established, lore-rich heroes of Diablo and Warcraft universes is an insult, however, these heroes have been made when Blizzard was good, when it was real Blizzard. Right now it is a zombie owned by Activision, kept technically alive only to pump out as much money as possible, using every sleazy tactic out there and even pushing the limit.

Blizzard is dead. Long live the Blizzard.

Heroes balancing, they nerfed the goods heroes the few that were balanced like ETC or Muradin becasue the kids were crying on the forums casue they haven't any skills to kill them or to use them.

Most of the people use toxic heroes like Genji, Valeera, Nova useless in team just to get easy kills and run away like cod players they camp u in lane waiting for u to have few hp than use 2 skills to oneshot u, feeling so pro in their minds.

Ranked match are totally a mess...u lost more points than u can gain with a win, so after the 10 qualifiy matches it's hard to rank up, usually or u play 200-300 match per season u u just lose ranks

Full of russians toxic players from other moba like LoL

To see an army of demons serve under the foul smelling lord of sin himself, this smell coming from his basketball game he played prior because what six legged demon of vivid nightmares doesn't tear it up on the court?
In an industry of halfassed games this game is masterfully made. Whether you look from a balance standpoint, artistic, voice, depth and sheer euphoria of sending the lich king to hell, the real hell, the one where he has to watch as his team is slaughtered by a gnome so ugly even stitches stomache turns sour.
Heroes of the storm is a very fun take on what some consider a standard moba. There are no items in this game. What? How does that make this game good!? It isnt just that but many other aspects that bring me back day after day to azmodunk people unto the dark texture-less void. Matches in this game feel much more team based than other moba's which I quite like. The fights are faster but feel as if time is slowed as each stroke and every decision has the potential to take a conflict to new heights.
The leveling system and aquisition of abilities is very fun as well. One must use all tools they have as if it were a crystal ball of magicy weirdness as the team levels, not the player. everyone on a team is the same level and all xp is shared to the team xp bar. You can stil get more xp in a game than your teammates, but only the kind that affects profile level or rank. This insentavises teamwork and for one to carry a game is much more difficult.
Luring me again and again with the opportunity to bathe in the blood of my enemies, I capture tribute and employ anubis himself to assist my team of magic wielders, creepy giga-bugs and edgy future soldiers of space. We push the lane all the way back, holding eachothers trust as tightly as we hold our hand to the throat of the demons we so desperately seek to kill. As we fight on many lands and plains we seek victory through strategy and maybe a god or two. As my team will agree empowering our angel master to duke it out with a demon on the battlefield is as enjoyable to watch as it is to fight by their side!
The music and voice and art of this masterpiece only adds to the sharp love i feel towards my support. Oh supports thank you so much, but its still your fault!
From being the mind of three fat vikings, one of two heads on an ogre or just playing diablo himself, there is no better game of teamwork in the moba genera. This game brings everything to the table from amazing maps and skins to fights that leave you feeling like a GOD. The smell of blood has never been so great!
This game has its highs and very few lows ( one being random teammates, there is no fixing stupid no matter how much healing or tips are given ). That said this game is much more fun with a friend but stands tall and filled with opportunities to fight in the best clash of nerd heroes and villains alike from the amazing universes that blizzard has so delicately built over the years.
With every inch of my rather large body i encourage you play this game! Make new allies and indulge upon new blood as each match offers new tactics, objectives and play styles as well as builds and synergies. With 21 free heroes ripe for the taking as soon as you load in and 50+ more to unlock ( this number is ever growing with characters from all of blizzards ip's. This makes for many fun nights up too late laughing your ass off because the 20 kill streak you are on induces hysteria and blood lust. This game has been such a pleasant SURPRISE! As a longtime casual SMITE player, I thought it would be too boring & simple after about a week of trying it.... but then I realized that when it forgoes the meta of "standard item builds" for your class and replaces this with hero-specific talent trees this creates a very personalized sense of build and progression for each hero. Then you realize how the objectives subtley change how the game plays on a map-to-map basis, and you see what a gem this MOBA is.

a Great free MOBA game. I like this game even more then League of Legends. Why? Because of the variaty of maps and playstyle. not only that the game sessions are much shorter and more intense.
This game is also really F2P friendly, and for the upcomming version 2.0 it will be even more F2P friendly, also skins are possible to unlock. Great game! 8/10 (maybe 9/10 when version 2.0 comes out)

HoTS is a MOBA, or a Team Brawler in Blizzard's words because they like to change the name of everything when they do it for whatever reason. This is a really strange MOBA actually. This is a really strange MOBA actually. No golds or items, no last hitting, team gains experience with you which is helpful for leveling, to build your character you select talents at certain levels, you can chose between two (rarely three) ultimates which are powerful skills that you can unlock at level 10. The games run about 15-25 minutes and generally fast paced. There are different maps with different objectives, layout and theme, which affects the comps, strategies and match duration. The game is much more teamfight based than other MOBA's. Because the game is less lethal, the fights feel slower and more strategical, rather than being decided by "who has the fattest carry". E-sport scene (especially Korea and Europe) is really fun to watch.

So how is it compared to LoL other than the points mentioned above? The skills are much less complicated and more like vanilla LoL actually. In vanilla LoL, champions were simple and most of them didn't require superior timing and aim to use at an effective level. In short, hero skills in HoTS is Vanilla LoL with more skillshots. Also, thankfully the game is much less lethal, i.e you don't die to a fed Syndra pressing R button, feels good man. How is it compared to DOTA2. DOTA2 has a lot of depth, day/night, active items, deny, high ground, trees, evasion, stats and the list goes on. HoTS has none of those, which is not a bad deal since nothing but active items make the game more interesting. You can get active skills from talents in HoTS, but the choices are much more limited. In HoTS, skills are shorter and more skillshot based and therefor, fair. HoTs is good at taking good stuff from both those games and Blizzard franchise, then creating satisfying skillsets. A character can have different playstyles but not unlimited ones unlike DOTA2, i.e a healer is a healer, you can build them to do more damage or more healing but it is still a healer. Yes, the game has healers unlike LoL.

I talked positively until now, let's beat the game down a bit. Balance. I hate Blizzard for this, but they will never change. Nerf the high skill cap hero that wins games until it is not viable. We've seen it in Overwatch, but HoTS had this issue much before OW. And by nerfing those heroes, and buffing the no skill ones, you are kind of messing up with matchmaking. Matchmaking. People used to abuse overpowered no-skill heroes to climb the ladder. The nerfs were always late, the ban system was non-existent for a while, and some people got really cheap mmr abusing the system. Now that everything is kind of fixed, why there is not a damn mmr reset. I don't play ranked anymore, even if I go 0/10 or 10/10 in placements I will be diamond 3. How is that fair Blizzard. Also, we need swaps when picking heroes, why a simple yet amazing feature like this is still not implemented yet? Why don't we have voice chat when Overwatch does, which requires at least as much communication as HoTS? Community. This community is full of crybabies who are afraid of interacting with real people. I see people in Reddit, who are motivating people to use the feature "disable team chat". This is a team based game. Go play a single player game if you don't want to communicate. Reporting system. It is absolute **** If you play the game enough, you will get reported enough to be "silenced". You can't use the chat, you can't enter ranked play. I never got silenced myself but know a lot of people who are silenced just because some Russian premades didn't like the guy and decided to report him. The system is dumb and needs to be re-implemented.

Unlike what people say in negative reviews, comebacks are pretty possible and much more frequent in high level play. There will be times when both teams are kind of equal in talent tiers unless the losing team screws big time. Also buying heroes without real money is much easier since there are Brawls and end-season rewards which give you a lot of gold.

If you like MOBAs, give it a try. It is a great game that keeps getting better by years.

Heroes of the Storm grew on me. I'm glad it did and I'm glad I stuck with this game. I do not see myself going into any other MOBA any time soon. Partly because I no longer have time for 45 mins+ games, Partly because I simply grew to love HotS.

Coming from Dota 2, I had to overcome the initial "this is dumbed down" feeling, HotS is quite radical in what it stripped from the usual MOBA mechanics. But the result is a lot of fun without unnecessary clutter of last hitting, denying and juggling with backpack items. To realize that I don't need all this "arcane" knowledge I needed some time. This is a true "hero brawler" - a game of intense teamfights from the start where your ability matters the most.

I also had to accept the fact that HotS business model is different. I paid some money for a bundle and played some promo matches against AI to get a decent base of heroes and a stimpack (experience aka in-game gold earning rate boost). I needed to put up with some painful grind and I'm not a fan of locking heroes behind the paywall.

The major area where HotS lacks in my opinion is the e-sports appeal. It is way more entertaining to play HotS than to watch HotS. Lack of proper spectator mode doesn't help.

It doesn't matter that much, It's nice to have a quality game where your favorite characters from all your favorite games battle each other.

It is a nice clean, polished game. Unfortunately, that is the graphics. Gameplay is and always has been lacking. It is simple and faster, or at least shorter than other Moba's, but it has no real depth. Also there are some gameplay design flaws that I pointed out were terrible decisions in Alpha, but because they are core concepts they stay in the game. One of these things is the shared XP. Unlike other Moba's where you have your own level, your whole team shares a level. So if one player is not contributing, it hamstrings the entire team even more than it does in a regular moba. Another issue is roles are very set, you can't compensate for a bad healer by taking heal items, because you dont have any. So basically one bad team member destroys your chance of winning a match. thanks to a horrible matchmaking system, once you lose a match, you are more likely to get bad team members.

Basically, what happens, is if you start winning games, winning is pretty easy and you can keep winning. Start losing and the same thing happens in reverse. What happens though Is you will get leavers, maybe not the first season you start playing, but sooner or later it will happen in your placement games for a ranked season. At which point you will be fed bad teammates until you start winning more than your losing. As the other team is also bad, it eventually averages out. However, if you get unlucky and have the worse player in the match on your team, you will lose. Because of the way it is designed, it does not matter how good you play, it simply matters who has the worst overall player, or in some cases the most bad players. This makes for a frustrating and miserable experience.

I would like to add that i have been on both sides of the teeter-totter when winning you get matched with winners and games are enjoyable even if you lose. When losing you get matched with losers and games are frustrating even when you win.

Because of all the horrible design choices the ranks are near meaningless. I saw someone that was playing at top tier rank 1 on the old ranking system, then Blizzard revamped the ranking system and he ended up at silver 2 with is the 8th rank from the bottom with 25 ranks plus master and grand master. After dozens of games he was silver 5 which was 3 ranks lower. This is someone that was playing in top tier matches before.

TL:DR. HOTS is a polished turd due to intentional design choices by Blizzard compounded by their poor match making system.

First, while I really enjoy the vs AI matchmaking of the game, and can congratulate them on a fairly regular stream of heroes being released, it unfortunate that they overlook several big aspects of the game.

First, they treat most of their loyal players like **** They regularly give away heroes that people paid real money for for free during promotions. While it absolutely makes sense to soften the burden of new players into a constantly evolving games, giving away heroes that are month or so old for free is basically a big middle finger to active players.

Second, things like this that dissuade regular players from sticking around often leads to a bigger problem of insanely long queue times. Playing ranked frequently requires queue times near 5-7 minutes, which is rediculous, because half the time you actually join a game the gap between MMR rating is pretty huge. 1 Diamond, 2 gold, a silver, and a bronze or so.... If they're doing that, then why did I wait so long?? Just throw me into the first 5 people that queue, right? -.-

Third, I would argue that this game is less toxic than League of Legends. That's pretty important, since LoL is pretty terrible in that regard. It is nice to have a play system where an accidental death isn't the end of keeping up. On the otherhand, the player base is maybe only minorly better, and most toxicity tends to dwell near ranked like most games, which takes forever to join games in.

Fourth, and finally, the skins in this game are huge missed opportunity. The design team and the production managers are honestly just really weird. They sign off on weird skin designs regularly. Everyones style and appeal is different. There is surely some you'd love. But even on the ones that are good and appealing to you, they end up choosing just the ugliest alternate colors; All solid green, all red, no darker tones and weird designs kind of ruin it. The best ones tend to be the Master skins that are available for in-game currency only and have high level requirements. It's nice, but begs the question of why. If they had any sense, they'd just tap into Blizzard's trove of original game gear sets, designs and themes and double their skin inventory just based off that.

All in all, its a fun game if you're a bored Blizzard fan. Otherwise, it's just a strange MOBA that fails to live up to its potential and doesn't treat their loyal players well. I'd avoid it if you haven't already.

Now HOS comes along and celeverly fixes a lot of issues the other 2 games -mainly dota- had by developing a new fresh format. You dont have to fight with your team for farm because gold and items are irrelevant. You all share exp therefore u cant just afk farm and kill steal your way into making this a solo oriented game. The game removes item building in order to reduce the stupidly long match durations that dota has. It has a ton of map varieties unlike dota and lol (ik league has other maps but 99% of time you play the standard map anyways) which adds a lot to a game that is all about repetition. HOS is also rich with lore thanks to Blizzard bringing characters from its other 4 top games. (Bonus for the fanboys like me) The devs actually work hard and release new heroes and patches quickly unlike dota2 which gets major patches every 6 months and adds a hero every 1-2 years zzzz. One problem the game has is that the talents dont quite make up for the lack of diversity and skill this game compensated by removing items and other louzy and unfun yet skill demanding mechanics like last-hitting, microing etc. I hope Blizzard will come up with a solution for that or just add more to the talent tree of the heroes to give the game more complexity Expand

On the other hand, the game is imbalanced and poorly optimized, also the ranked system could be better. People say they can't carry; they are wrong, they are just less able to notice game changing opportunities, or are potentially really bad. LostSands is my username in League of Legends, and I am a Platinum V support main. I play Heroes of the Storm now because it is an objectively better game, and I maintain a 65% win rate in my games. You 100% can carry a game by playing the right characters and making the right play at the right time.

For individuals who are saying that it's community is toxic, that is ultimately not a consequence of the game, but rather a consequence of any given online MOBA community, and HotS is by far the most tame of any of them due to the fact that you literally cannot spend that much time in a game typing, or else you aren't playing.

Make no mistake, If you wanted to complain about Heroes of the Storm, then you can absolutely do so, but it should be done for the right reasons. The largests flaw in heroes of the storm for me is a consequence of one of it's upsides. Games are shorter, and more team oriented, objective centric. Because of this, as an individual who is very competitive, it makes the entire game feel less impactful

There are many times that I know I do very well, landing a critical snare, or a well timed ult, and these things lead to finishing the game. However, these moments don't stack up very well to the moments I have done at the 37 minute mark in League.

Blizzard is one of those companies that is still alive only from name recognition, and this game is a proof of that. Heroes is a "Hero Brawler" which is an attempt to dig into the money from a game which used to be a mod for their game Warcraft 3. This game is the perfect for those who are new to the genre but are turned down by the complexity of Dota 2 or League of Legends. This game is simple, casual, fun. However, as with all their modern games, Blizzard is trying to make this game a competitive E-Sport, which causes issues with the structure of the game. The main game is like most ARTS titles, you're in a 5v5 map where the objective is to destroy the enemy's core, which is guarded by forts, and you have to go down lanes and destroy these forts. Unlike most games of this type, your team levels up together, and instead of skill leveling and items, you have power ups called 'talents' which you receive every 3 levels, with the choices differing for each hero. Unfortunately this does minimize hero creativity, something the genre is very well known to do well at. There are 10 different battlegrounds, and an ARAM map that nobody plays on. These battlegrounds differ in layout and in objectives that help you push the lanes and win the match. These objectives are hit or miss however, there are those that go well with the ARTS gameplay with focus on dominating you lane like Dragon Shire, however, most maps are distracting and involve you frequently leaving the lane to got jungling for a few minutes like Garden of Terror. These objectives end up feeling like distractions, and you end up running around the entire map trying to get them, without a quick breather in most cases. The objective bonuses also differ, but some are worst than others, and often feel like game over being hit by them like the one in Cursed Hallow where your forts stop firing and your minions have 1 hp. Some bonuses involve the game destroy towns for you and these maps fail to balance laning and pushing and with objectives, making these maps all about standing around doing objectives until the game wins itself, and really shows how the game could be completely mechanically remade, and yet play almost the same. Now lets talk about heroes. There are currently 53 heroes in the game with with a weekly rotation of 7 heroes, which you can increase to 10 by leveling up. The f2p model is similar to that of league, but much more demanding. The maximum price for heroes is $10, and their price with in game currency is ridiculously high. The only way to reach their prices is through daily quests, which forces you to frequently play heroes against weak bots so that you can get them over with. Items like skins aren't better. Average skin prices range from $7.50 - $15.00 and are fairly expensive by industry standards. So, how does the game perform? Not so great. The game is poorly optimized with many FPS and Ping spikes with a lot of stuttering even on high end PCs, and the engine handles reconnects very poorly, having the client catch up to the server, even if you are alt-tabbing. There are a few issues with the core gameplay as well. Due to a lack of items, there are no regular health pots. Instead, there are Healing Fountains and Regen Globes that heal you in a team fight. Due to their abundance and short cooldowns however, recalling and going back to base become useless since there is a lot of sustain options in the game, especially since all the supports are all heal-bots, meaning that they mostly revolve around healing allies. Other differences in this game is the inclusion of ammo bars on forts and keeps. Although you can rely on your minions to tank them, once they run out of ammo, your minions become useless and and you can take on the towns yourself. Overall, this game is an interesting concept, to say the least. However, it is not completely well made, with gameplay that negates certain aspects, of the game, and not well balanced. This game is fun as a casual free-to-play game, but Blizzard is trying to show off this game as competitive, which it isn't and won't be any time soon. This game could've been good, but many aspects ruin the game and makes it not fun, and makes you wish that you were playing Dota 2. Expand

The end result is that you will get close to a 50/50 win ratio over time no matter what. And while it is still very possible to rank up or down, the level of skill corresponding with each rank is hugely varied. And very little satisfaction is there to be had for most players who are looking for an achievement in this regard.

A good ranking system will have most of these features. Players will win about 50% of the time. Games will feel generally balanced. BUT SKILL WILL CORRESPOND WITH RANK. fix it

After being stuck in development for nearly 7 years, here in 2016, Heroes of the Storm still lacks features we've come to take for granted in other genre titles, fails to garner a strong Twitch following, has messy tournaments, and overall is not anything of a spectacle.

Not Blizzard's finest hour. Perhaps the game would have been better if they had stuck to their original plan of making it a Starcraft Arcade title.

HotS is a bit simpler and easier for beginning players to learn and enjoy, but that means it doesn't quite have the same depth as League in terms of high level play. However, HotS still has some pretty competitive pro-level play. Blizzard is fast approaching Riot's position as the poster child of esports, and I wouldn't be surprised to see HotS on ESPN at some point. Expand

I have been playing it a lot for a year. It is clearly the best MOBA game in the market right now. Better than LoL or Dota 2, by a large margin.

The MOBA genre was born out of mods for earlier RTS games. They proved really successful, so standalone versions like LoL were introduced. Problem is, those earlier mods depended on RTS engines like Warcraft 3, and many concepts of those mods were influenced by those games, while really not making much sense. When LoL and Dota 2 copied those mods, they brought these problems in their games as well.

Other MOBAs rely too much on last hitting, which is a very boring thing to do, and have concepts like "carries", which is stupid. You are spending at least half the game's time laning mindlessly for gold.

Also, other MOBAs are playing only on 1 main map, with clear cookie cutter builds everyone copies from the others. The supposed "depth" doesn't really exist, it is an illusion, all you have to do is follow the "meta", last hit for 20 minutes, and then play another 20-30 minutes when you already know the outcome of the game but can't really leave.

Heroes, a fresh take on the gerne, removes many of those problems. No last hitting, shared team experience, lots of different maps with different strategies, removal of items, you instead get talent choices unique per hero. The laning phase is quite short and not that tedious, then the game becomes action-packed. Comebacks are extremely common, you don't really know what will happen until the very end.

It is deceptively deep as a game, in my opinion much deeper than LoL or Dota 2. While you can "learn" the basics really easily, and it really is the best MOBA for a newcomer to get into, you have a loooooong way to go before you understand how each map should be played, how heroes synergise with and against each other, and how to teamfight properly.

Also, it is probably the best F2P model i have ever seen. Ignore the haters, you can be 100% competitive and have fun without ever spending a single cent. All heroes are available with purchase for in game gold. Match gold gain rates are really slow, but the game features "daily" quest that are completed very easily and provide lots of gold. Just completing these dailies in PvP games will take 1 hour per day and will allow you to buy plenty of heroes per month, alongside all the other gold bonuses you get from leveling up and other promotions/events. Skins and mounts are costly when not on-sale, but the game has to make money from somewhere, and they are purely cosmetic.

The main problem of this game, is the matchmaking system, which is really bad and easily exploitable. If you have friends to play with, this game will be a blast, but if you are solo, this game can be frustrating. Since this game is the most team-oriented of the MOBAs, your individual influence is very low. If you have trolls, afkers, or just bad players, you may lose games while still playing really well. But still, the game is worth it, even with the bad matchmaking.

So, if you like MOBAs or want to get into MOBAs, this is the game for you. If you don't like past MOBAs, this may be the game for you. It is free, just try it!

    Here is the bad:
-The games runs on an old engine that can give fps problems to people due to bad cpu utilization and because network affect fps in this game.
-Activision's Greed is present in this game more than ever, more than Destiny, WoW, CoD, or whatever othe tittle. Every hero, skin or mount in this game costs 10 usd, bundles who are presented regularly go for 40 usd. Unlocking heroes in this game is painfully because of slow gold gain.
-The matchmaking in the game is absolutely BAD. When I started playing the game I did mostly vs AI games and some VS and it felt ok. But now the matchmaking is full of mirror games filled with "unconventional" heroes that make each one of those games sooooo frustrating.
-The competitive mode has stayed in "PreSeason" for more than a year since it's "official" release, it's like 2 years of preseason most likely, and you know why?? because the matchmaking is so terrible, that it punishes playes to such low mmr ratings and because of how the game is designed getting out of there is impossible, which makes people create new accounts and spend more money to take advantage of the "exploit" of duo queueing using a fake MMR account to boost another account to the highest rank. This is greedy and unacceptable from Activision.
-The game is full of illuminati references on maps, art, etc. Yes Illuminati
-They have been releasing heroes that are either severely overtuned or undertuned, they just cannot find the middle ground. It is absolutely terrible.

This game is fun but at the same time can be SOOOO frustrating and ACTIVISION has it's claws in it.

I don't understand how people can complain about the costs especially if you compare it to other MOBAs, especially because nothing you have to buy with real money affects your ability to play the game at high levels. You can unlock heroes with gold earned in game, pay real money, 10 heroes are free to play each week and heroes are always on sale. You can pick up some tier one heroes for less than $4. Mounts and skins aren't cheap and some can't be bought with gold, but you can get them on sale too. If you don't find the value in buying them, don't

Gameplay is OK. The huge downside with this game is the community. 90% of matches end up in bickering negative hate spreading chat. After about 1k matches I've decided that this game is the first one to go down the bin because of the community. Way to go people. But if you somehow manage to find decent people to play with, it's alright.

In Heroes of the Storm you play as one of Blizzard's iconic characters from Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo. At first glance the game looks like a typical 5 vs 5 MOBA, but there are changes that differentiate it from its competitors. The matches are shorter, items have been replaced with talents and all maps have different side objectives. Overall, the changes have made the game more intense and varied. The main thing that I have issues with is the payment model. At first it seems fair and reasonable, but after a while you realize that you have to spend tons of money if you want to unlock all the characters or play the game for a long time. [Sept 2015]
