Jan 22, 2025Being so devoted to Final Fantasy 7 means that there’s a lot of love to be found in Rebirth. And as a fan of that original game, it was so easy, for a while at least, to be swept up in the dazzling sights of Gaia, in the vibrant amusement park of games and sidequests at my fingertips, to hop on this rollercoaster journey with many of my all-time favorite characters and give myself to the joy of being able to spend more time with them. But all the charm and pageantry in the world can only distract me for so long before I realize: nothing has happened this whole vacation. The ship hasn’t even left the dock.

Jan 23, 2025Square Enix is a studio that hasn't left the PC behind, but it hasn't greatly benefited from it either. Mistakes are meant to be learned from, and after a Final Fantasy XVI that perhaps stumbled due to Luminous Engine, Rebirth is a solid, powerful, and visually stunning.[Recommended]

Jan 22, 2025Personally, I was left with mixed feelings – but I should also add that I don't have nostalgia for the original game like so many do, and Rebirth feels like a game specifically designed for fans of the original in the passionate way many of the moments, arcs and locations are depicted and fleshed out here. I enjoyed spending time with the core characters, the world-building is impressive and the soundtrack is truly superb. I had plenty of fun with the battle system as well. However, I found the narrative pacing poor and the open-world elements often tedious. The game is stuffed with minigames yet their quality is inconsistent, and there were late-game segments that I found to be a slog.

Jan 22, 2025The best part of the new port is the potential for all the upcoming mods. All of my complaints can be fixed by the community through mods, although Square Enix should address them directly first. Overall, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth looks and runs better than its PS5 counterpart on PC. The amount of options and scalability is enough to satisfy most PC gamers with modern hardware, and certain quirks can be fixed with quick updates.

Jan 22, 2025The PC version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth adopts some bizarre solutions regarding the graphics settings and certain options are still missing, but in terms of performance the game already appears very well optimized and potentially scalable on different types of configurations...Of course, beyond the purely technical aspects there is the great substance of an adventure that will certainly be able to involve you for dozens and dozens of hours, thanks to an almost always brilliant narrative section, an even more exciting hybrid combat system and the charm of an open world full of things to do and see.

Jan 22, 2025Final Fantasy Rebirth is imperfect, incautious, uneven, and gloriously, fearlessly unfocused. Final Fantasy Rebirth is unmissable.
-
Jan 22, 2025Even in its PC version, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth turns out to be the best thing that could have happened to the saga in the last 18 years. With this new look, and with a level of detail that is truly enviable for those who can afford the highest settings, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the new glimmer of hope for all those fans who felt betrayed by the most discussed and controversial chapters of this beloved saga.

Jan 22, 2025For those about to play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for the first time, enjoy the ride. You’ll find out why it’s one of the highest-rated games of 2024. Those who played the initial PlayStation 5 release last year, well, some games truly are worth buying twice. [Highly Recommended]
