I constantly wanted more, I wanted to see this world unroll further, I wanted to see what else I could do with this incredibly clever main vehicle; but then it ends quite abruptly, which makes it feel incomplete without following it up with the sequel.

One of my favorite LIMBO-like game, so to speak.

► I like the atmosphere here, and the art direction and the sound design.

► The interesting idea on gameplay with management of the big machine, and avoidance of mechanics with regular deaths.

    ► I just love it.

Controlling of that ship is very simple: press a button - elevator going up, press another - fill up the fuel... the whole adventure is based on the fact that this girl needs to monitor the condition of the ship, repair its zones, or put out a fire after lightning... and all this in the time of this endless journey, accompanied by meditative and, a little depressing, music.
...This game is great for its simplicity of execution, and the sensations that it gives without any words.

This game is a real wonder... So beautiful in so many ways. I often do bullet point style reviews for things, but this time, I think all I really need to say is a few words.

FAR: Lone Sails is one of those treasures where you only need to play it once, but yet, you still feel the call to go through it a few times more, just to enjoy it again. I bout it on a whim after reading about it in an article and seeing it in a steam sale, but...

I regret that, since I would of rather of paid full price for this beautiful work of art. The game is considered an adventure exploration game, but really, it's more like just an artistic piece made interactive and keeping all its beauty.

With no dialogue or NPC's, you're alone in this game, but as you make your way through, you feel everything the world in it has to feel. It's an experience that anyone who appreciates the emotional sensations games can make you have. For anyone on the fence or wanting to try this out, if you feel it'll be a good game for you, then it most definitely will be.

The game also lays out some good foundations for future instalments as well. I would love to see a sequel that allows customization of the ship, or perhaps even some form of multiplayer where you and a friend work together to keep your ship going and keeping in working order. From energy management, to keeping damage down and fixing what needs fixing, FAR: Lone Sails is a game that will be remembered.

Even now, over a year since I first played it, when it helped me through a hard time in my life, I find myself thinking back to it, wandering about its story, its meaning. There's so much interpretation in it that is down to the player. Every single individual who will play this game will take away something else, take away a different feeling, a different view on the ending. The way it makes you feel, it's hard to have a game with no dialogue or any characters aside from the one you play be able to inflict emotions on you that stay with you.

Many of the emotions come from the ship you have in the game. Because despite being just a vehicle, it's very much a character all of its own. A second "living being" so to speak as you keep it fueled and keep it going. It is your companion, and the only one you will have and so it's very much something you will get attached to. For someone to not come away from this game having some kind of emotion invoked, I will question if they took it seriously. Yes, I know no game really should be taken so seriously, but at the end of the day, Far: Lone Sails is one of those games that you just can't say isn't any good, because to those who connected with it, they will understand how it is a wonderful game and that simply cannot be argued. But of course, opinions are opinions, and all should be accepted, even if not agreed with.

If you're one who likes short games, who likes deep and meaningful stories which will tug at your heart strings and leave you feeling something you didn't expect to feel when you get to the end, then this game is one for your collection.

    10/10.

And we are not shown in these early stages of the game either. Like most of the game, the developers keep everything quite mysterious about the world. And the people and events within it. A lot of the story is left to the player to work out. And this only adds to the beautiful canvas that is FAR. For this game may be set in a post-apocalyptic setting. But damn is it nice to look at.

Far’s visuals are breathtaking. Every area is crafted with such care and attention to detail. What the game screams throughout, is immersion & atmosphere.
The colors in the beginning are quite faded. This gives a very sad look to the start that marries well with how we began with a burial. But picks up as we move further through the land.
I am easily able to believe in the world Okomotive have created, as everywhere I look, it’s finely made. Huge landscapes make up most of the game. If you were to stop to take a screen-shot every 10 seconds, I wouldn’t blame you. I did!

Early on I was introduced to the massive steampunk (Star Wars sandcrawler-esque) vehicle. Just like everything else, it was incredible to look at. Which helps, as this is where I spent most of the game. As we move inside the camera makes a nice reveal of the interior. And right in front of your eyes is basically FAR’s game mechanics all looking at you. And they are saying to the player, ‘Hi there, come on in. Play with me’. All over there are rooms, decorations, gauges, buttons, equipment & a nifty little lift.
From here on, you instinctively know what the game is asking you to do. To learn how to get this big beautiful rust-bucket moving, and keep her moving throughout the game. This is where the adventure begins.

The big rig needs to be looked after well on your journey across the big unknown. Learning to use the furnace to give power to her. To go out and collect junk to burn for fuel. To learn to release steam when it builds up, which in turn helps give you a big speed boost. To know when to go full speed, half-speed, when to smash on the brakes & when to put out fires and fix equipment. Raising & lowering sails comes into play too, when the wind is moving in the right spot. And it all comes together very well. It may seem difficult for the first few minutes. But soon you will be multi-tasking at full-speed with no problems.

Along the way you will run into problems and obstacles that must be overcome. The weather will test you plenty too. And you could easily be forgiven for forgetting about what you are doing to pan the camera out in a storm, to look at the view.

So now we know that visually, the games a looker. And that the game mechanics are varied and good fun. But what about the music? The score that plays over the entire game can only be described as EPIC! This is what stood out to me more than anything throughout my time with the game.
The score was made by multiple musicians. And the end result is spectacular. The timing of when the music kicks in is spot on as well. Starting up your behemoth of a machine and taking off will cue something fantastic. Reaching a grand area in the world will cue something fantastic. Learning about the story in certain areas will cue something fantastic (ok you get it). The first thought I had when I finished the game was, ‘right, I need to go buy the soundtrack’. It’s that good in my opinion. And helped to create an even more memorable experience.

Negatives now. Honestly, I struggled to find any bugs or problems with my time in game. Sometimes……boxes and fuel items can get stacked up in the boiler room? Is that a thing? Will that do?

FAR: Lone Sails is an emotive trip through a dying, yet beautiful world. It's a journey that doesn't last for long, and whose low replay value makes it hard to come back to it... and yet it's also one that's hard to let go once you start it. Fans of such games are definitely advised to give it a go - oh, and don't wait for a discount because its worthy of its price tag as it is.
