I’d like to call myself a fan of Bethesda studios. To make it clear: my gaming experience in the Fallout series starts from Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and in TES – from Oblivion (I got my first PC at the time of release of the last one). To make it clear: my gaming experience in the Fallout series starts from Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and in TES – from Oblivion (I got my first PC at the time of release of the last one). I’m not a die-hard fan, but from these days I completed each game from the both of the series thoroughly, with the time passing and modding resources growing and a new ways of playthrough appearing. Skyrim turns 7 years this November and I’m installing it on my PC once in a half of a year from the moment of its release, load with ton of mods and go on exploring again. Fallout 4 is on my hard drive from the day of release. There is no need to discuss other games in that review, but I want to mention my high appreciation of the games from the Dishonored, Doom, Prey and Wolfenstein series, released by the departments of your company.

I’d like to call myself a fan of Bethesda studios. I mean, among the other studios you create a worlds that can engage a gamer for years. It’s an incredible work. I’m studying gamedev now and I know what I’m talking about. By the way I started to learn it also due to my childhood experiences taken in games including the works of yours. And furthermore, these worlds I mentioned allow gamer to build up his own unique experience using mods. This extends a living cycle and replayability of games a lot. But we have a thing there.

You know it yourself about the bugs, glitches and gameplay problems of beta version, about the easiness of cheating, about lore, about the paper discs, about uninstalling the game, etc. I see no reason to write about it all, the other users and journalists done that for me already. All of these things could be forgiven and they would forgive.

What is ruining the general impression of the game is total unoriginality and the fact that the game itself is not finished (even in the context of open beta version). It’s obvious that the game is always a profit-oriented product, but this time the profit looks like the only reason to make a game. You can see an indifference to the final quality of a product in many aspects such as animations, questing, fractions, crafting, graphics, PvP interaction (more on this later). You did a great job, but I’m sure you know it – to make a game on a quality level of your previous releases you must have done a 10 times better. Now it looks like Fallout 4 with a great fan-made multiplayer mode. You know exactly why – the game uses a huge percent of content and code directly from Fallout 4, that had its own visual and gameplay style after all. That is not a problem. The problem is that the remaining part of content made without the proper effort. I’d undoubtedly support a small team of modders made such mod for a single player game. This quality would be an unbelievable success. But not for Bethesda level of studios.

The second problem is uncomplicated, absolutely non-challenging PvP and survival in multiplayer game set in a post-apocalyptic world.

In this case the statement about support for mods sounded like an avoiding the responsibility for an incomplete final product. Something like “modders will improve, we provide the ground”. For now, after all the waves of hateful reviews, you probably see that it doesn’t work that way.

Due to a very high target you had to hit I evaluate your work strictly comparing it with previous experience. I tried my best with beta, sessions of which took place in the dead of night in my country. And after participating I have to note with my regret that your decisions taken this time are wrong.

Thanks for the beta. Now I assure that there is no sense in buying the game for now, until the serious update and improvement releases. Will these improvements be made by the studio or implemented by modders – time will show, but this game have to change greatly.

I’d like to call myself a fan of Bethesda studios. But now I can’t.

If you love the Fallout series, avoid this game. This is Fallout 4 with its heart ripped out. No NPC's means no story. Ignore what the sheep try to tell you, a bunch of terminals and holotapes does not a story make. Collecting useless crap while you fight the same boring enemies who respawn ad nauseam does not a Fallout make. Avoid this abomination like the plague.

I have been thoroughly enjoying this game. Exploration is one of my favorite parts about the Fallout series and the map has amazing new locations, scenery, and environments to explore. I am also enjoying the expanded crafting system for armor and weapons. The story has been pretty good up to this point. Getting quests from Holotapes, Notes, or wandering into a location has not been bad at all. I am concerned I will miss Holotapes or Notes for quests though. I imagine it will get better as I dive in more. I've enjoyed both PvE and PvP. And I LOVE the graphics - a noticeable improvement since FO4 regardless of what detractors say. These are the same people who didn't care for FO4's graphics which were good at the time. They'll never be happy.

There are some things that are frustrating though such as:
    1) Stash limit is VERY small and frustrating. I find myself over-encumbered constantly with no where to put junk or items because my stash is already full. I get that everything having weight is a part of the realism...but it shouldn't be so strenuous and time consuming to deal with. And a larger stash (double if not triple the size) would alleviate this.
    2) Bugs are prevalent at launch. The one that is MOST frustrating has to do with the Social menu. Adding folks as friends or to your team can just not work sometimes...and that ruins the biggest part of the game. I've also gotten to a point in the main question where I need to kill someone annnnd I can't seem to get him to respawn after another player already killed him.
    3) PvP is fun...but i accidentally shot someone's CAMP and I immediately became wanted. The subsequent chase and killing I endured were hilarious. But the punishment did not meet the crime.
    4) Vendors have been crap thus far. I haven't seen them replenish inventory/caps once since the Beta began ANNND that is annoying as crap because it is a primary way to rid myself of inventory. This leads back to the Stash/over-encumbrance issue.
    5) NPCs...obviously there aren't any and it makes for a different kind of game. It can feel a bit empty at times. Holotapes and such do well to fill this void but I do miss walking into an NPC city with numberous vendors and stories.
    6) CAMP building limit is awfully low and frustrating for someone who pumped 500+ hours in Fallout 4 due to settlement building.

Highly recommend playing this game if you are a fan and veteran of the Fallout series for the same reasons I am. But if you are looking for a traditional Fallout experience or it is your first time - Play FO:NV, FO3, and FO4. THEN consider getting this afterwards and I think you will enjoy it. If you are looking for a PvP game...this may become one in time but for now the Workshops/PvP hasn't flushed out as people are just exploring/questing/leveling.

Fix the stash box size/the amount of items we can store and this game would be a solid 8. By linking the vendors all to the same cap pool and having the cap pool be very small most of the time you can't sell your excess junk and weapons. IMHO, this is a giant new Fallout game in which I have forfeited VATS for the opportunity to finally play Fallout with friends.

I'm loving it. I know people had tons of expectations for it, and that there's been a massive bandwagon against it, but whatever -- I'm having a blast playing it, and that's what matters in the end. Comparisons to Rust abound, but I prefer FO:76 vastly.

It's not a "skin," it's Fallout, warts and all. Everything I've done so far has felt like FO4, which I realize some people don't like, but that's their prerogative.

Personally, I find it incredibly fun. That's all that matters with a game.

There are people who were going to hate on Bethesda and post toxic reviews for this game on launch day from the moment they knew it was coming out because it was Fallout 5 or bust for them. Imagine this: you're playing with a friend, but neither of you can turn your microphone off even temporarily, and in order to follow a questline you both have to simultaneously listen to different holotapes. This results in constant skipping of holotapes - the ONLY acted contribution to an otherwise empty game. This is to say nothing of the animation issues - monsters sometimes don't animate at all, and just slide around in fixed sprite position like chess pieces. Other times, gun renderings will have them holding their weapons at a bizarre angle, etc.

This is an early-access novelty release, worth no more than $30.

Though after playing the B.E.T.A I found the game amazingly fun, I love the universe that the game is set in. The landscape and world of Appalachia is a large and very well built one. All of the new creatures in the game are very cool, they even have some returning ones from previous games. The building system is a blast and a very good feature for the game. There are plently of quests and events that will keep you busy and entertained. I myself am level 38 as of writing this and I still have piles and piles of quests to do. There are also a bunch of factions that you can join in this game and receive some really cool gear from, eventually Bethesda will add faction based PVP as well. Speaking of adding new things, Bethesda has already said they will continue to add more content into the game. All DLCs are said to be free content, and that is a very good thing for this game. I myself am addicted to this game as a long time Fallout fan, I am very impressed with what Bethesda has done here and look forward to the games future.

Vault-boy and retro-futurism, stimpaks, psychos and iguana-on-a-stick. That's the ONLY way you can call this a Fallout game. Fallout 76 has no idea what it is.

    1) No humans - what does this mean? A LOT is the answer.
    - No dialogue (all NPCs are robots, or can't be talked to). Takes a toll on RP
    - No quests have any choices, they all have the same result. You go to a place and you kill them all because they're different, and do the action you're required to do.
    - All quests are from robots or holotapes. You just press E on them and wait a minute, or activate a holotape. No personality, and no motivation to complete a quest. A voiceline is this: you are just being asked to do an action somewhere and being subjected to the horrible lore fluff.
    - All humans are players: Players do not even come CLOSE to covering the role of human NPCs in previous games. They always play without sound, and the way the game is made, the only reaction you can have to meeting someone is "oh there's a guy". That's literally all.

    2) Empty world, empty lore
    - Bethesda says 4 times as large, I say 4 times as sparse. Everything is far apart and is NOT more rich than New Vegas' map for instance
    - Exploring without a quest is pointless, you can loot an entire facility and find nothing of use, there's no big reward for clearing a building. The odds of picking up a quest are abysmal as well, you learn to not enter any building that doesn't have a questpointer.
    - A map has so few players that you can play a whole day without meeting anyone. If you go to Flatwoods you'll see 2-3 people, but otherwise don't count on it.
    - Game is filled with lore fluff that has no purpose. Only 1/5 terminals serve a purpose, the rest are filled with stupid lore that has no bearing on impact. In previous games you learned about the location, maybe found something you could apply to find a stash or solve a problem, but here it's utterly useless.
    - No ultimate objective: Remember how we purified the Capital Wasteland's water? Remember bringing peace to a war-torn Mojave? Forget that, you are doing favors for robots in Fallout76, there's no endgoal or build-up, JUST a stream of kill/retrieve quests until you can't take it anymore.

    3) Bad gameplay
    - Perks are even worse than Fo4 where they already botched it completely. First of all, the interface is confusing beyond belief, you apparently select a s.p.e.c.i.a.l point and then get to scroll around and choose which perk you want. The perks however are complete RNG and you can end up not being able to level up how you want to. I went with intelligence for hacking and energy weapons, but only got Hacking 2 at level 23. In old Fallout, each point did something specific. In Fo76 however, taking a mentats is a mystery, special points by themselves don't appear to do something specific except for strength with weight capacity. Second big thing, being an intelligence main for example is not viable at all. You get some bonuses to weapon condition and weapon-modding, but no bonus-damage like strength/perception perks or anything like that. If you go full int, you can just mod weapons slightly more (not much) and _eventually_ hack complicated terminals. Like I said, after maxing int, it was in level 23 I could hack the next level above what int 1 can.
    - PvP is a joke, all players are visible on the map at all times, and if you shoot someone they take 5% damage only. You are then given a bounty, nobody is visible to you anymore and players do full damage to you. People can effortlessly fast-travel close to you and kill you. PvP is one big standoff to see who's dumb enough to shoot first, and then 1-shotting the other player instantly. You only drop junk and a couple caps btw, so the enemy runs at you again with his full inventory still available. The thing that made me uninstall was a guy whose whole strategy was wearing a powerarmor, running close to you, and VATSing to oneshot you. He stimmed endlessly and couldn't be killed.
    - You will be overencumbered every 20 minutes and need a workbench or stashcrate, which WILL run out
    - Scorched and mutants are everywhere in groups and all have guns

Important: you will see people defend this game. Understand that these are people with a raging boner for the fallout aesthetic and nothing else. If they get to open it up and eat buffout and shoot brahmin, they will love it and die for it. If you like this game and convince 1 person to buy it, I genuinely hate you. It takes LSD-overdose-levels of hallucination and delusion to like this game and fill in the blanks the game leaves. Just being open to RPing the setting is not enough by a HUGE margain. Steer clear at all costs.
