Not only is it overpriced at $60, the games micro-transactions were up and running before they even fixed most of the bugs that were reported in the B.E.T.A. Pass on this game and maybe pick it up when it's on sale if you have someone to play it with. It was not designed for, or even balanced playing for playing solo even though Pete H. insisted that it was.

In summary, probably not the game you are wanting it to be, more bugs than previous Bethesda games, severely under preforms in combat, UI and AI when compared to other AAA titles. but decent enough to pass the time if you have someone to play it with or when you are waiting for something else to come out.

This game is Early Access, content bare, and is just an expansion map for Fallout 4, to the point where mods from that title are working without any changes in Fallout 76. That is how little work was done to fix the engine. If you want to see the OCD cleaning simulator, they by all means grab it at full price and hope that they sell enough copies to eventually add in all the missing content and fix the *amazing* array of bugs. It would also be nice if they can stop all the cheating that is already being noticed two days after launch. Just Google "Fallout 76 Nulear Codes" and you will see all Bethesda'a claims about nukes being limited and not overly useful for PvP, just became a lot less true. All because they implemented it in the laziest way possible that took one whole day to bypass.

Fun Fact: They made a profit of $400m+ from Fallout 4, and now have a team size of 400 people. Apparently 85% are all level builders...

Fallout 76.. Its a shame the game is being bombarded with negative reviews by people who haven't touched the game. The game is not perfect but its still a lot of fun,
If you're the type of person who enjoys looter shooters then this is for you.
Quests are not halve bad but it could do with some NPC 's.
The game does need a serious performance patch

I was a fan of Bethesda, and the fallout titles before they were acquired. I'm one of the very old guard of these games, to the point where I've spent more time in the world playing or making mods, than most of the developers. As such, I've always been interested in why they take the direction they do in each new installment. After many hours in game, I simply cannot believe they had anything other than utter cynicism at heart when they produced this product. There were a million and one ways they could experiment with the title and multiplayer functionality, but the only reason I see that we could have ended up here is if they set out with the goal of making an incredible cheap and content devoid game for the purpose of recurrent monetisation.

That's all this is. This is closer in terms of content, enjoyment, and I'd be willing to wager, development cost, to fallout shelter, than a mainline fallout game.

They wanted to see how this experiment played out? Tell them the only way they'll listen. Don't buy

Mechanically the C.A.M.P. system is superior to the settlement building system in Fallout 4 and playing in a group will allow your group to set up multiple camps throughout the play area. Too many issues (bugs, mapping keys, fov, etc...) to give a positive rating. Too much fun exploring the map with friends to join the review bomb squad handing out all the 0's. Would have rated this higher if the solo experience was more fun. I really enjoyed the game with my friends but found the world very boring on my own. I can't rely on my friends to be on everytime I want to play. At this moment, it gets a 4, but I'm willing to change it if improvements are made. Expand

It's a complete disappointment and cash grab. They threw in the cash shop before even rolling out any fixes. It's early access that will break your wallet. There's a reason the Critic Reviews are silent, cause they know if they tell the truth about how terrible it is they wont get press passes from Betheda anymore. Give it a year and it'll be fixed if it's even still around.

The response from Bethesda when these issues arise are jokes about how "haha bugs again how typical us xD", instead of taking it seriously, and when they do issue out a statement about some of the gamebreaking issues, they just say it won't be out on launch, we'll fix it in the future sometime (maybe). It seems like they have stopped caring and they think this is somehow an acceptable state to put out a Bethesda game. It even has a bug that deletes your game for clicking play, how is that even possible? The game barely has any NPCs, devoid of any real story, and generally just feels soulless. it might be fun if you roleplay with your friends though, i'll give it that. After playing the B.E.T.A. and the game, i feel very dissapointed, its feels like a early access game, with terrible microtransactions. old outdated engine and generally unfinished in every sense of the word. At 60 usd... I haven't been this disappointed in a game since No Man's Sky. And this isn't an indie company either, this is Bethesda. This is completely unnacceptable. Bethesda should just stick to Singleplayer experiences, that's what they're good at, they're clearly incompetent at this. And if they intend to use the same engine for the new elder scrolls game, as they've stated, I will be severely dissapointed at that too, they NEED to make a new engine, its very outdated and its clearly not made for multiplayer, they need a new one. Also, all of them are able to be earned through regular gameplay. The social side of Fallout 76 is incredible (and hilarious at some points). I once found a player with the EXACT same face, hair, clothes, etc. I took a picture while he was on his PIP-BOY, and sometimes see it as a loading screen. Overall, the game could use optimization. My GTX 1050 OC could run Fallout 4 on all High and Ultra settings at 60+ fps. On the contrary, Fallout 76 runs 50-60 fps on Low. The game looks almost exactly alike F4, why is it so much more demanding? It doesn't necessarily look bad on low, just not great. Expand

Bad skills/perks systems. In an older games there were a lot of skills and this made Fallout as RPG. So, for me, Fallout without skills is not Fallout at all. You can call it with another name, but please, don't call it Fallout.
As for me, the best part of the Fallout was NV. It has all, what game needs. So, if a new Fallout game will be from guys, who made NV, I buy it. If it won't - I won't.

The game can be extremely fun with friends (like most things). For the most part, the funniest things are usually bugs or glitches though which isnt a good sign. Exploration and the world on the other hand are amazing in my opinion. It is way more interesting and detailed and colorful than Fallout 4 was and so it gives sort of more insentive to look around and find cool places. I have to admit, F76 has some of the best looking areas in any Bethesda game to date. I have't explored the whole map yet so I cannot say if the game gets boring after that, but it certainly isn't that yet.

I haven't played the main quests or really any quests for that matter, since they are not interesting at all. There are no memorable characters. Unless a roaming super mutant merchant or a 100th Mr Handy bot with the same exact voice is memorable to you. It really is you making your own story and fun which isn't really what Fallout has been nor what people want it to be.

The technical side is a mess. Graphics to me do not look as bad as some people are saying but they're not good either. Animations are janky and outdated, lack of push to talk makes it so nobody is ever talking, game lags when loading things in (almost as badly as Subnautica for instance) and there is a lot of pop in in certain areas. Enemy AI is braindead for the most part and either run right at you or run away as fast as possible so you can't even hit them with VATS.

Gunplay to me is also very outdated and takes some getting used to and I suppose it has its own charm to it but it could be way better. VATS seems fine to me, though I do only use it on enemy npcs and not other players. PVP is a complete mess. The system doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. I was being shot at and all I had to do was ignore it and not shoot back even though I was in someone elses base. The gunplay does not fit pvp at all and the hitboxes being weird in this game, I don't see a reason to do any PVP at all.

Overall I do enjoy the game even if I don't want to. It could be a good game but Bethesda has taken a wrong way to go with the game. I do hope they fix the issues that are present in the game right now but knowing Bethesda that might not happen. I guess my final verdict is that the game is NOT worth 60 dollars but if you can get it somewhere cheaper, sure go for it. It can be fun

There not being human npcs didn't actually bother me too much, I got used to it very quickly, and it in my opinion doesn't effect the game play at all. I like the Mr. Handys any way, though there are a bit too many holo tapes. The pvp is very fair though as not everyone wants to kill people, if you want to do that, go play rust. In this game you can mind your own business and do whatever you want without really having to worry about other players. If some players are trying to kill you, all you have to do is either not fight back, and if they kill you, they get a bounty or leave that server and join another server. Base building is nice and balanced, you can't place your camp everywhere as it takes a decent amount of caps. Again this game does not deserve the amount of hate its getting just because its not fallout 5 and it multiplayer. Though I don't get what people mean by the game is unfinished or the graphics are bad, I don't know what utopia future they are living in, but the graphics for the game are nice. The quests of the game are also pretty cool as almost every location you visit has something with it, either you have to do a quest associated with it and other buildings, but they aren't each very similar. Each of them feel very unique and cool. You have quests where you go across the map, or quests that link to other quests even. Most of the people I'm assuming came to this game with a negative opinion in mind even though they had not yet played the game. I mean its almost like a negativity bias with what these people are doing. They come to the game with negative opinions and they block out all good things about the game with the things that aren't so great. They saw that the game was multiplayer, or how there are no human npcs, and heard that someone else say that they think the game will be bad, who heard from another person that the game will be bad and the chain of negativity continues. I know this game doesn't exactly deserve a 10, but I'm going to give it that just so people don't continue this negative bias towards the game without even playing the game and never fully experienced what the game holds. - Targeting is difficult, more so than in FO4, and vats is near useless. I tried it several times over the course of 4 hours of play. Ap ran out very quickly and even in Vats.. melee is infuriating. Swing 10 times and it sounds like it hits, but it doesn't.. which eventually results in death or trying to run away. Be sure to close Vats first or you can't run away..
    - Switching weapons mid combat is far more difficult than it should be.
    - There is no real 3rd person view. You will not get a better view of what is around you so, it's first person or... don't play, I guess. Disappointing.
    - Starving to death while you're afk or doing things with perks is kind of garbage.
    - The perk system itself is clunky and underwhelming.
    - My game crashed 3 times in less than 3 hours, and no, my computer is not the problem for that.
    - I had an issue with the game code and the customer service I received was terrible. A copy/paste of something from the help section that i'd already read and didn't help me. Still waiting on their next response. I don't expect to get one.
    - Lack of anything at all for new players who have not played a Fallout game before. I have over 700hrs into FO4 and I was even confused by some things.
    - Menus can be difficult to find.

This game needs another year in development.
I would also suggest different servers for different types of play.
-Casual servers with no starving to death issues.
-Moderate servers for what the game has now
-Hard servers for those people who enjoy a difficult game.
I don't think this would be difficult to do since its already 24 people per server.

On the positive side, I like the crafting system and the idea of public events.

I'm huge fan of Fallout games and I even liked FO4 with all issues that came with it, but Fallout 76 is ABSOLUTELY garbage, this is unfinished game, broken af, I cant believe they actually released it with its current status, this is not even an alpha. the animation is absurd, textures probably worse than Fallout 3, guns in this game feels awkward... this game deserve 0 score or even worse!

The hate seems a little bit too extreme. I think mostly people came expecting this to be a typical fallout game. I played for about 5 hours yesterday with 4 good friends, and we all had a fantastic time. I mean probably the most fun I have had in a long time with a game. You just need to range out, and roll with your buddies.

Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]

An unfinished game with bifurcated identity and in an almost dysfunctional state. It's hard to build on a bad base, that will never change. Like the war. [Issue#292]
