*People within the game are nice, because there is literally a lack of human interaction in this online game. People are starved for it, hence the new NPC dlc coming out soon.
    *Lies, lies and more lies.
*P2W items being implemented within the atom store, they promised nothing but cosmetics within the atom store, now there are repair kits and soon, who knows what else.
*Servers for the game are terrible ... lag is a rampant thing as is high ping.

I could keep going but I think the point is gotten. Pick up the game if it is free don't if its not.

The lack of human npc can sometimes be strange but i do not think it is something that is that bad. Even in other games the best stories told are the ones told through the environment and notes.

In short this game deserves better than the reviews it is getting but it is definitely not a good game. It is ok and it is in general nice to play.

I could easily give it even higher note, yet technical problems and the fact that game was released in this state is what truly deserve a backlash (not the lore, not the fact that this ins't an rpg). Bugs, glitches, sometimes very frustrating, could make angry even a saint and some other problems and weirdnesses (building system was butchered, and pvp system makes no sens) makes me believe that not everything was thought through as it should be.
What bethesda did excellent in f76 is enviromental storytelling at it best... similiar to what we could find in f4 but on a bigger scale.
Saying all that, i hope they will fix the game and not abandon it because of all those angry kids all over the internet - since f76 deserve a better state than what it is now. Hoping for updates, and some sense among people overall. What could be fixed also is the price, because game is not worth in its current state as much as it cost.

The game just isn't fun. It's not without it's moments but they are few and far between. Requiring friends just to find some semblance of fun doesn't make it any better. Requiring friends just to find some semblance of fun doesn't make it any better. The world is lifeless (yes I do understand it goes with the story they are trying to present with the Scorched and the survivors trying to live in a world after the bombs fall). There is no purpose to anything you do as the player. Move from area to area and just pick up junk. Craft some things to move to another area. Progress in levels to get more perks that don't make the game feel like you're actually getting much stronger. Some of the enemies are pretty well designed but their AI makes them boring to fight. The lack of any meaningful story makes the journey just as meaningless.

If you want to find lore then there is plenty of it. Holotapes and text logs are plentiful but you are experiencing a story that has already happened. You're a trespasser in someone else's journey. We could have lived in a world where the responders were dealing with the Brotherhood of Steel or the Enclave dealing with MODUS. Instead we are left with the husk that is the aftermath. Personally, I would have rathered had a full fledged story experience that I could have played with friends or solo and then also have the world we were given. In the same vein as ESO presents it's non changing world, we could have just lived in a static world that doesn't change with any major action we do but still have a story presented to the audience while dealing with the repercussions that an online only world has to deal with.

The game isn't a 0 or a 1 but it's definitely a game that the Fallout fans did not want. I'll still play it because some of my friends are having fun and I can create my own moments with them but it's not something I will be playing in the months to come.

If you loved Fallout 4, particularly Survival Mode, this is basically that on a new map. It has plenty of content to keep a hardcore fan busy but very little of the social science (ethics and consequences) or strong characters that made previous Fallout games so memorable.

    The good:
-Big world to explore. Can be atmospheric and beautiful. Fun locations. Good options for varied difficulty levels (after leaving the facile starting areas)
-Translates some of Fallout 4 Survival Mode features into a more reasonable difficulty. Interesting environmental pressures at the best of times.
-Decent graphics with some shining visual moments. Excellent sound and music. Good acting on voice logs and humanoid monsters.
    -Coop can be super fun.

    The Bad:
-Fabulously tedious interface that gets worse the longer you play. Inventory menus were slow and unintuitive in every previous title, but two were turn based and the realtime games at least paused when you went to inventory! The system is archaic and nearly unworkable when monsters spawn around you in real time. Building and crafting menus are one step forward, two steps back from Fallout 4. The menus in general are an unholy marriage of PC complexity and Console button saving. All of the unfun housekeeping and inventory repacking takes waaaaaaay longer than it should because of these issues.
-Graphics are uneven. Some glitches. Some ugly areas.
-Shallow quests. Few NPCs. No player dialogue.
-Combat is clunky and repetitive. Enemies are glitchy and dumb.
-PVP is uncommon, pointless, unbalanced, and a huge immersion break. PvP usually starts by accident and neither side has a clear win condition. When a member of my party accidentally murdered another player, I was able to kick him from the party, execute him for the bounty, and then he rejoined the party a few seconds later. What is the point? I'd prefer separate PVP and PVE servers as opposed to the hybrid system presented here.

TL;DR: this is and feels like a really big Fallout 4 mod. If that appeals to you, you'll have many hours of fun. If you're on the fence, wait a year and see what direction this game takes with updates and DLC. With a few shake-ups, it could be memorable. Right now, it's a rough-around-the-edges niche product pretending to be a general audience action game.

Expand

Some people say there is now story - there is story, lots of it. If you start playing this game without sniffing around and just skip everything you game will tell you - you would not understand anything there. There are many lore parts which explain almost everything happening there, why are there these kind of creatures, what faction tried to make life better in there etc. IT does feel a little bit different than FL4 because without NPC-s you do not have different choices for answering. Quest are linear but not bad. If you played FL4 with looking under every peace and rock, did every single side quest, then you will like this game. If you just go from point to point without paying attention much of the story - it is not for you.

Game is released a little bit early. I think after few months game bugs will be fixed. Bethesda will add more content there and today it is impossible to know will they introduce NPC-s or not. But as a story goes, there are factions and it is possible to add NPC-s without mismatching the lore.

But actually, I can't recommend anyone who wants to play it solo to buy it except if you’re really into sandbox/survival AND Fallout universe. When I think about launching Fallout 76 I’m finding asking myself “Why would I play Fallout 76 when I can do the same things better in Fallout 4?”.

I've made a more complete review here, where I can express an opinion in more than 5000 characters : https://bethesda.net/community/topic/282313/objective-review-about-fallout-76

The game has a really great potential and can become a masterpiece in the Sandbox-games style if Bethesda listen to the community and makes great updates... or the game can completely fall into oblivion.

Fallout 76 is the most disappointing game of 2018. Filled with bugs, terrible graphics and an overall bland, repetitive and boring gameplay. Worst case being the scorched but even other enemies don't feel that exciting. So i thought to myself, i'm going to get more into the main quest-line. But compared to quests from Fallout 4 the ones here felt very dull and that was when i realised this was not a good game and needed a lot of work to be improved.
Does it still have potential to be a good game? Maybe, but i think bethesda are kind of hamstrung by using an engine that was never designed to be online. That's why we have such a low player count per server. But expanding on the PVP (which would need higher player count) and adding human npcs, settlements and raiders, maybe in a new zone to the east would help improve things.

Unfortunately, I only got a couple hours into the game before giving up. The motivation to explore the world compared to the past Fallout games just isn't there. Without human NPCs to talk to, the game felt very incomplete and empty. The side quests are by far the weakest point of the game, which consist of asking you to go to location X and finding a holotape, or killing X amount of enemies. This is the kind of quest structure you expect from an MMO.

The whole time I was playing the game, I just wondered why I shouldn't just replay Fallout 4 instead? The gunplay and graphics would be the same, but it would have everything else that 76 was stripped of.

This is a great game for people who come from MMOs and are used to the type of repetitive content those games have (albeit SWTOR is the exception) or people who only care about gameplay.

I'd give it a 6/10. If it didn't have the exploration and environmental storytelling that these games are known for, it'd get much worse. What a pity. The setting would have made a good traditional Fallout game.

I understand that not many people are with me on this one, but I like how little I'm given and how much it is up to me to find the content. These are the factors that made me give any points to this game.

However the technical implementation has been sub par by a large margin. T-posing enemies, wildly buggy EVERYTHING, truly underwhelming combat and quite honestly it doesn't even look that great.

I really wanted to like this game but I just can't at its current state. This was the last time I pre order anything from Bethesda. They have utterly failed. I'll probably give this another go once the worst bugs have been fixed, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm no longer looking forward for the next Elder Scrolls or Starfield and that makes me sad.

I would not recommend spending your money on this game, unless they fix the bugs and you enjoy an empty and desolate world where you need to find the content, instead of being given content.

There is still hope for a decent game to arise from Fallout 76 if only a few key features are implemented.

Graphical: Depth of Field toggle, FOV slider, 60FPS cap.
Player interaction: Push to talk, text chat preferably global or multi-channeled.
Trading: Vendors shouldn't share caps across map, buying only restores about 25% of the worth back to the vendor, ability to set your camp or a workshop as a trade location/trade request board, if its really an issue of players getting to many caps make food/drink worth zero.
Building: Allow buildings to semi-clip into terrain as moving camp with blueprints is next to impossible, Need a large increase to the stash size or another way to store things such as build-able loot containers (with locks), increase the maximum size of your camp as well as budget per level.
World: Event quests need a run over for breaking and bugs, I know they won't add them but no NPC's really leaves you feeling like you're chasing ghosts, Even though they give a reason for it I would like anything other than more scorched to fight in towns.

All in all it is fun to play with a few friends but is more frustrating the longer you play as storage management becomes a major time sink and the outcome of most of the stories is "They're all dead and you missed it entirely." If Todd and the company does want this game to succeed in anyway they need to start make changes fast, as the stash size issues were known since halfway through the beta and have not been changed yet. Lets just say "We will watch your career with great interest." Bethesda.

I like TES and Fallout games because they are immersive. Fallout 76 is not immersive because Bethesda can't account for the unrealistic or idiotic actions, appearances, etc of other players. Their names, clothing, manner of movement, etc just don't make sense from a third person perspective. I'd play a Bethesda game if they go back to relying on NPCs, but not any more like this.

After the annoucement I was sceptic, but after seeing B.E.T.A. myself I was surprised. Fallout 76 is not empty, it's full of little stories and big quests, you just need to find them.

The game is not perfect and currently I would say "just for fans", if Bethesda fixes the issues the community requested during B.E.T.A. (stash, dof) I'm pretty sure it will be able to find new fans.

Is it a bad game? No. Is it a good game? No.
It's acceptable, I don't know how else to describe this game.

Bethesda wanted to try something new, and that's very okay. I just don't think using an established IP to do so was all that wise.

The lack of NPC's is felt, and you feel it fast. For all the jokes about Preston Garvey's quest system, at least he was there. You could interact in any way you saw fit. Here, you're just finding about stories for those who've come before, and it gets stale incredibly quickly.

If you were on the fence already about this game, don't buy it. However, keep an eye on it for the future, see what Bethesda is planning before you bite the bullet.

Holotapes and Notes worked reasonably well in the other Fallout games as they were side content, there for you to stumble upon at random. The main content was filled with NPC's, allowing the repetition of some quests (Eg, Prestons) to take a short while longer to set in before you recognize it. In Fallout 76, the game feels like filler, as nothing of true importance actually happens. The player is an observer, not a catalyst. And that, is what kills this game for me, and i'm sure many others.

    Nothing matters, the Game.

If you can use your own brain and avoid the hate train you can discover a very nice game, not the best, but a nice one. I encountered few minor bugs and nothing that can change or ruin my game experience. Graphics is not new, not the last and the best, but it does its work and it run smooth on my PC at ultra settings.
People that says "there is no story!!!1111!!" probably can't even read

The only thing that i hate it's the C.A.M.P. disappearance when someone has already placed a camp near mine before the login, but it will be fixed in the next patch, so it's all ok.

I'm quite confused by this game.

People claim it is bad, I find it better than 4; People claim bad performance, mine is smooth as butter; People claim bugs, I've encountered pretty much none; People claim there is nothing to do, I find plenty to do. The most confusing game of 2018 for sure. The game is quite good actually compared to many other AAA games. If you are a fan of

I don't know why everyone hates this game, i actually enjoy it alot. Theres alot to explore because the world is huge, theres always something to do. Its especially great to play with friends but solo is also very possible! Although there is a issue that i have experienced where my game freezes when i enter power armor but all you need to do it quickly restart. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gonna preface my review by saying there is a genuine hate campaign going on against this game that is in no way justified. While the game has flaws a plenty, there's nothing massively out of the ordinary for Bethesda games (or in some cases, many other games.) A lot of these reviews come from people who have VERY CLEARLY not played the game. A lot of criticisms are based off of straight up lies and fake news.
Additionally, this is NOT a "main series" Fallout title. This is not a singleplayer RPG but instead an open world multiplayer loot'n'shoot survival game. This is a spinoff game. This is a game that is a similar genre to Fallout 4, but not the SAME genre.
So keeping this in mind, I'm going to review the game under the following criteria: Open World, Multiplayer, Loot'n'shoot, Survival, and "Game".

    Open World:
One thing Bethesda does that no other studio seems to be quite as capable of is making a genuinely OPEN world filled to the brim with details and exploration. There's junk and clutter around every turn that manages to breathe life in to an otherwise dead world. There's always something on the horizon, and there will be content you simply wont see even after hundreds of hours of gametime. The mantra of go anywhere, do anything definitely shines through in this aspect.
The story is also told through the open world, each significant area seems to have a piece of lore attached to it that can be learned through recordings, notes, and diaries on computer terminals. Reading through these pieces of information not only lets you experience the story, but also gives you gameplay hints and clues that can help you discover any secrets in the surrounding area.

The game has a main story, but it takes something of a backseat this time around. A lot of people are critical of that, and I can understand why. However, I don't find that it impacts me much to begin with. The main story provided by Fallout 3/4 are incredibly shallow, and can be completed very quickly by just bee-lining it towards the next quest marker.

The lack of NPCs and NPC dialog is a bit eh.

    Multiplayer:
As far as the multiplayer aspect of the game goes, it works quite well. I'm able to get in to a game no problem, and it runs very smoothly. I'm able to play with my friends from around the world with almost no noticable lag. The core game works well too, I enjoyed exploring and fighting alongside my friends, and building camps was definitely rewarding.

The PvP is a bit dumb however. Easily exploitable. There is a purpose for PvP however. Random fighting in the wasteland is meaningless, where the real PvP comes in to play is over controlling territory in the form of Workshops. Owning a Workshop allows you to harvest valuable materials for your benefit, but someone can come along and try to claim that workshop for themselves. Unfortuantely, there's nothing stopping them from constantly retrying, meaning that if they have the patience, they can force you to keep defending your property.

Also always on microphones and no text chat... the fact that they thought that was a good idea is a massive yikes from me. Very bad decision, clearly they're out of touch with games.

    Loot'n'shoot:
A system that basically defines Bethesda's Fallout now. There have been a lot of positive changes to this system. Crafting is much more in depth, breaking down materials and weapons is meaningful, weapon degredation is back and works well with the system they made in Fallout 4...

The killer, however, is the god damn piece of crap STASH. Why is there a 400lb limit? Even being careful with how you sort your loot, it just ruins the game entirely since you eventually come to a wall where you have to make room in your STASH or don't pick up any more items. This completely breaks the game loop.

    Survival:
It's basically the survival mode from Fallout 4 except toned down a bit to be less of an annoyance. Keeping yourself unfed isn't a series of increasing debuffs, but a singular large debuff that gets applied when you drop to 25% of your hunger/thirst bars. Keeping them above 75% provides buffs as an incentive to maintain them. Additionally, there's even more benefits to preparing your own food over eating random junk food you find on your journeys.

Diseases are back, and so long as you aren't getting bitten by rabbid animals or rolling around in dirt, you'll stay healthy. Makes sense to me, so it's a cool touch.

    Game:
Simply put, the Gamebryo engine just CHUGS in this game. It's at the end of its lifespan. The game runs horrendously by default, and you have to do some SERIOUS gutting to make it playable. It doesn't look bad, but for how it runs it should be looking better.

FOV isn't locked contrary to popular belief, but an FOV slider would have been nice. The 63 FPS cap is a dumb compromise.

    Ran out of characters.

Fallout 76 represents a big disappointment and the lowest point of the series so far. Riddled with bugs, repetitive and dull gameplay, nonexistent story and outdated graphics, it fails as a both multiplayer and singleplayer experience for fans and newcomers alike.

Miracles do happen once in a while and No Man’s Sky proved that sometimes it is possible to get back on your feet even after a terrible failure. Right now though Fallout 76 is botched spectacularly on so many levels that even talking about this game is a waste of time. [01/2019, p.46]

An unfinished game with bifurcated identity and in an almost dysfunctional state. It's hard to build on a bad base, that will never change. Like the war. [Issue#292]
