  • Summary: Dropsy is a non-traditional take on the classic point and click adventure formula starring the game’s perpetually carefree namesake clown as he explores a richly detailed world full of colorful characters and sinister secrets, doling out hugs along the way.

I judged Dropsy thinking it was going to be a kid’s game with little no challenge, randomly hugging people, and grow tiring. Instead I got a really interesting yet odd and colorful world to explore, a huge smile on my face, and a game that ultimately made me happy to see Dropsy love so many.

Though the premise of an adventure game about a lovable clown is not enough to win me over on the surface, it’s the complex tale of a cynical and unforgiving world the player is expected to change through loving and non-violent interaction that ultimately seals the deal. Adding in the wonderful presentation and dynamic soundtrack, this becomes an adventure game that should not be missed. It is a must.

Dropsy is a bit of an oddball game, so I wouldn’t bet on it having wide appeal, but those who love it will really love it.

Dropsy‘s resolve to bring back the old school point n’ clicker is a success, though it’s perhaps a bit too successful, given the overreaching ambiguity in certain areas. Even in spite of its tendency to obstruct the player, it’s a beautiful, bewildering, unforgettable game of hugs, love, and hollowing sadness.

Dropsy manages to subvert your expectations, and has managed to create a main character you can feel for, even though he doesn’t speak. Dropsy just wants to make people happy in a world that is filled with problems, and by helping them he can achieve his goal.

An excellent stab at a traditional point-and-click, but with classic problems holding it back.

The one-of-a-kind Dropsy’s heart is absolutely in the right place, but it’s tough to fully embrace a game with so much unwelcome filler.

    Really beautiful and charming.

Visual and audio design is really incredible. Caricatures and cartooney environments serve the world's cute tragedies well, and the music simply makes you want to stay in this oddly disturbing, but unavoidably pleasant place.

The value of the game is being given the opportunity to help these distant, broken, sadly recognizable people, and help them and make the world better. It values kindness and empathy in way that isn't patronizing or overly saccharine.

Dropsy centers around personal, internal pains, and handles them gently but maturely. It really is quite a satisfying play.

Puzzle solutions are chellengingly abstract, but not so much so that they won't be discovered with a bit of exploration and paying attention to clues. Dosen't have the pitfall of pixel hunting.

While the artistic sensibilities may be reminiscent of classic Point and Click games, Dropsy uses an amazing soundtrack, unique storytellingWhile the artistic sensibilities may be reminiscent of classic Point and Click games, Dropsy uses an amazing soundtrack, unique storytelling methods, and signature style to create a game that is equal parts familiar and unique. In fact, the entire game seems to be a dichotomy of design elements.

It is equally endearing and haunting, ultimately bittersweet to almost heartbreaking degrees, and has deep themes about loss and self loathing while having a button in the menu that just makes a fart noise.

With it's tonal shifts, weird characters, and bright colors, it feels like David Lynch designed a Sesame Street game.

You can probably beat it in a day, but boy, what a day that will be. Truly unforgettable.

A solid adventure game with a good no-text game design idea.

Dropsy is good because it goes into the extremes in graphical designs and has a special little story with its special little retard protagonist.

It's charming and cute in most places then goes full dark and bizarre several times, which is as good a mix as it gets.

I would say most of the game is all around solid, gameplay, sound, graphics etc, and it is, but I have one little problem with Dropsy, it's that it does not really get better over time. What you see in the first hour or so graphically and stylistically is what you get for the whole game.

Adventure games tend to go from not really normal, to crazy, to crazier. Dropsy just has a solid basis it doesn't really leave. The story's ending in particular was just uninteresting and did not appeal to me.

I still enjoyed it and don't regret my money, but this isn't stellar, it feels like someone's first game and although the core ideas are good enough to carry Dropsy through, it doesn't go higher than that.

Would still recommend as an interesting and original game.

An hour into this game, I'm left wondering: why does this game have a metacritic score of 80? Are critics so caught up in mindless pretensionAn hour into this game, I'm left wondering: why does this game have a metacritic score of 80? Are critics so caught up in mindless pretension that they are unable to recognize that this game is garbage?

I spent an hour wandering around and solved a few puzzles, but frankly, there has been absolutely nothing whatsoever to love about this game. There's a few things you can pick up, some unclear puzzles, and frankly a lot of "well, what are you supposed to do next?"

I'm not bonding with the characters, and I feel like I've hardly made any progress in the game. What's the point of this? Why did critics call this charming?

The art is intentionally ugly and I'm just confused over what is supposed to be so great about this game. I get that there's an aesthetic to it - the ugly cute - but frankly, I'm just not seeing anything heartwarming here as the reviews promised. Just a bland point-and-click adventure game.
