Gamers take on the role of Alice Drake, a psychologist with the extraordinary ability to enter the minds of her patients and combat the ravenous foes haunting their dreams. Utilizing a host of fantastic weapons and her own special abilities, Alice confronts our common demons only to discover an even deeper menace reigns within. The ultimate showdown becomes inevitable between that which would torment and she who will protect, and only one force will prevail amidst a variety of dreamscapes as varied and bizarre as the human mind itself. The world of dreams and nightmares allows for each level to be a completely different environment with different sets of enemies. In each dream world players can enter a secondary level of the subconscious - a world within a world - and encounter new enemies, weapons and power-ups. Players can use Alice’s teleportation powers to quickly zoom around rooms to dodge enemies and achieve a tactical advantage over enemies. Alice's weapons are massive and fierce, each featuring two unique attacks and outlandish ammunition including lightning bolts, lasers, sticky grenades and even "Happy Thoughts." [Aspyr] Expand

  1. Dreamkiller amuses for the time that lasts, about 8 hours. It is sold at budget price.
  2. It's fun, but the fun is short lived. Dreamkiller is a copy-cat game that tries to emulate Serious Sam but places Sam in a cube.
  3. Good ideas, mediocre implementation. There's a lot of blood, a solid story and well done cut-scenes. Dreamkiller tries to be different, but in the end it's just short-lived fun for players who enjoy games like Painkiller.
  4. Dreamkiller is, through and through, a budget game. The visuals are colorful but look decidedly old, the action is as shallow as it gets in a modern shooter, and the sound effects lack oomph. The premise is neat, and some of the enemy designs are legitimately awesome. But if you've been dreaming of some old-fashioned twitch shooting, you should return to the old standbys and let this sleeping dog lie.
  5. Try as they might, none can’t clear the bar that was set by Painkiller. Left to its own devices, without People Can Fly’s support, Mindware Studios created but a pale imitation. Some people can’t fly, indeed.

The game's spectacular premise is ultimately unfulfilled. What might have been a truly eye-opening, perspective-shattering trip through the battlefields of a tortured psyche is merely a rehash of everything we've been through in the Painkiller series.

I'd give this a 7 or 8 out of ten, but I voted 10 to boost the overall score. The reason I would give it a 7 or 8 is because while the gameI'd give this a 7 or 8 out of ten, but I voted 10 to boost the overall score. The reason I would give it a 7 or 8 is because while the game basically lacks a story, the idea of it is pretty cool and gameplay mechanics are great. My only complaint, other than the story thing, is that sometimes the levels can become boring and repetitive. Expand

Rather then the classic Judeo/Christian heaven hell story, or aliens, we are give a glimse into the world of dreams. It could have been better. But if you just want to kill time, this is a great time waster. I should have delved deeper into the whole nightmare part of the game and turned this into a well written and portrayed horror game. As it sits however I had more fun with Serious Sam. Expand

Even the great idea for this game could not make one ignore the outstandingly repetitive fighting of horde after horde of monsters using below-average FPS mechanics. The graphics are mediocre, which usually would not be much of an issue, but since the levels are supposed to be the embodiment of a person's mind, you'd think it would be a bit more... Vivid? Or at least inspired. This game is like "Serious Sam", a fun game where you genocide hordes of absurd monsters with a comedic tone to it, if it took itself seriously. Dreamkiller could have been great, but its inspired story concept did not save it from its uninspired gameplay. Expand

Which makes it totally unforgivable that the fights are quite unsatisfying. The guns feels unresponsive and unsatisfying to use and neither sound, visuals or physics manages to brings the fights to life. And since most fights play out the same because of the dumb AI the game also gets quite repetitive. The interesting premise could have saved the game but neither the environments, enemies or story are particularly intriguing . The game do have some kind of interesting environments here and there but it never manages to escape from the fact the the general gameplay feels quite sub-par. Expand
