This game got some pretty bad reviews, but personally I enjoyed it all the way though. I enjoyed the game, but looking back, near unlimited potential is wasted on repetitive gameplay. Expand

I am a long time fan of Duke Nukem and Doom as well as other classic games and while this is no Doom i will say it is a classic in my book. I don't understand the amount of negative reviews on this one, but i guess if i only limited myself to ten minutes of playtime i might have misjudged a whole crap load of games. Wow talk about missing out.. Power to the Player people! Expand

This is a fun game. If you just want to shoot things, and not have to read a 100+ page manual then this is a game for you. If you don't want to spend 30 minutes going through story, and figuring out controls, then this is a good game. It has good actin, it's fun, it won't demand 100 hours of game play. Its like Painkiller, but you only have 2 guns at any time. That kind of just made me stop playing after 10 minutes.

An incredible concept executed incredibly wrong. Even the great idea for this game could not make one ignore the outstandingly repetitive fighting of horde after horde of monsters using below-average FPS mechanics. Dreamkiller could have been great, but its inspired story concept did not save it from its uninspired gameplay. Expand

The graphics, story and sound were ok at the beginning, but it just gets so repetitive: from room to room, from monster to monster. Nothing fun at all

You remember those really really good games that has pretty bad graphics, done to death gameplay, no story and short game time but still turns out to be a great game? Me neither.

I'd give this a 7 or 8 out of ten, but I voted 10 to boost the overall score. The reason I would give it a 7 or 8 is because while the game basically lacks a story, the idea of it is pretty cool and gameplay mechanics are great. My only complaint, other than the story thing, is that sometimes the levels can become boring and repetitive.

Despite its awesome premise ( Psychonauts combined with Painkiller) Dreamkiller is nothing more than a standard old school corridor shooter. And since most fights play out the same because of the dumb AI the game also gets quite repetitive. The interesting premise could have saved the game but neither the environments, enemies or story are particularly intriguing . The game do have some kind of interesting environments here and there but it never manages to escape from the fact the the general gameplay feels quite sub-par. Expand

Wow. This is the worst game I've played in ages. The graphics are decent -- I've recently been playing Crysis, so my expectations are high -- but the gameplay is TERRIBLE. First-person shooters are always in danger of mind-numbing repeatedness, but typically a high variety of weapons, maps and monsters keep it well in the green zone. Not Dreamkiller. Just another FPS game, nothing really original. I would give it another point if they include some fan service stuff like being able to play your character nude or something.

Also played it on the free weekend. Got through it just in time, which got me in a awkward situation. I had enough fun so that i acutally would like to reward the developers, on the other hand i really don't feel like i need to own the game now ^^ So, it's fun, it's simple and it's short. I'd pay/donate ~5

Kinda fun, great stress relief, awesome weapons, etc. Overall though, very repetitive as the the protagonist is trying to clear an individual's brain of bad thoughts, and so far this usually amounts to shooting lots and lots (and lots) of the same kind of enemy. The game's only real navigation system is either a red dot that shows you where the closest enemies are, or a green Kinda fun, great stress relief, awesome weapons, etc. Overall though, very repetitive as the the protagonist is trying to clear an individual's brain of bad thoughts, and so far this usually amounts to shooting lots and lots (and lots) of the same kind of enemy. The game's only real navigation system is either a red dot that shows you where the closest enemies are, or a green dot directing you to the next stage. Although honestly, with the amount of freedom one has to roam around in the game, I'm surprised they didn't just make it a rail shooter. The settings are kinda interesting and dark and creepy and all that, but sparse. Basically I guess my biggest problem with the game is that it's kind of, well, shallow. There isn't even a map to consult, and most of the awesome weapons you get have unlimited ammo, so there's not even the challenge of having to keep track of various kinda of ammo. Overall it's a fun shooter game, just not the most well-done one I've ever played. Hopefully it'll get better in later levels, but I don't know. Expand

Free to play this weekend on steam. The reviews don't give this game justice, they are way too harsh. Which is probably why this game was free to try. Great visuals, doom clone gameplay, fun to play if a bit repetitive. If you're looking for a shooter with a lot of action this is worth a try.

  1. Dreamkiller is, through and through, a budget game. The visuals are colorful but look decidedly old, the action is as shallow as it gets in a modern shooter, and the sound effects lack oomph. The premise is neat, and some of the enemy designs are legitimately awesome. But if you've been dreaming of some old-fashioned twitch shooting, you should return to the old standbys and let this sleeping dog lie.
  2. It's fun, but the fun is short lived. Dreamkiller is a copy-cat game that tries to emulate Serious Sam but places Sam in a cube.
  3. 42
The game's spectacular premise is ultimately unfulfilled. What might have been a truly eye-opening, perspective-shattering trip through the battlefields of a tortured psyche is merely a rehash of everything we've been through in the Painkiller series.
