I love the game except for the controls. They are not thought out well. I really can't imagine any developer who thought out these controls ever actually played with mouse and keyboard. It's unergonomic, clunky, clumsy, you name it.

It would have been 9 out of 10, if only the controls didn't annoy me to hell.

Not sure what kind of crack are the people giving this game a 0/10 smoking, but at least it's an argument, that the Metacritic user review section needs to go.

The game plays like a "single player MMO" and apparently at some point it was designed as a multiplayer game. In doing so, EA/Bioware might have stumbled upon something really cool, as this kind of world design gives the player a lot of freedom and at the same time, it still has that single player power-fantasy charm that no MMO can give you (with thousands of copies of you running around and being told that they too are "The One").

A great game, that will consume your life and won't apologize! By all means, do get it! :)

I never felt like rewriting my review as with this one: Dragon Age Inquisition the console port.

Yes the UI and control scheme suck hard for PC and its obvious exactly what they had in mind when making them. You cant click on stuff at all and worse change of all was to remove high light item button and replace it with some thing that does ping and highlights items around you but range is extremely limited and you don't see letters of stuff that you can loot but just faint light which blends in most background which results in panning camera around like mad monkey just to loot stuff.

Tactic camera is terrible, its focus point is cursor and it always keeps elevation with it which gives you motion sickness from constant zooming around. And it cant pass trough collision which makes it extremely frustrating in doors as it will zoom directly into your char head and you wont see anything.

Over all game it self is too much mmo-ish, bland one dimensional boring side quests while main quests are somewhat more interesting but similar to mass effect ones in terms that you have 2 roads that will reach the same goal. While i mention that Mass Effect you could even say that Dragon age follows Mass Effect footsteps where ME become pure shooter Dragon age will soon become pure button masher.
Still must say that one good thing, that they did was not to slap number 3 on this one but rather named it just Inquisition as its really different game just in same game universe.

It could be said that combat is being held back by its dragon age roots as dependency on NPCs is what makes it frustrating as their AI is poor and combined with lack of customization that DA:O had doesn't help either.

They tried hard to come up with some mixed system but obviously lack of time stop them from polishing it out and final result is that you have game that feels off in many ways.
You can only pick if your NPC will use certain skill, spam it or not use it at all. So playing with friendly fire on(which added more substance to combat as you had to take care about your own aoe) will most likely cause them to kill them self or your whole party.
And game is too easy only some bosses are somewhat harder (unless you play on hard) but in reality it comes more to your level and gear, again that mmo-ish part kicks in.
Playing game on hardest difficulty is somewhat interesting as you actually have to plan and use tactic mode but you will soon get annoyed by its camera, controls and what not.

With all that being said game sure have huge amount of side crap to do, while they failed at quality they sure did make up with quantity only question is can you be bothered enough to see it all.
Combat is hit or miss and there are even some side distractions similar to vistas in assassins creed and load of collectable codex entry.
Sad as it might be even with that all this is one of best Bioware RPGs as of late and that is just telling how low the company has fallen.

I still give it 6/10 as its not bad game just not as good as some claim it to be.

So there are only 2 possible outcomes: you will either love the game or hate it with passion.
If you liked more DA2 coz it was more flashy and forgiving(casual even) then its quite possible to like this one as well.
But if you liked DA:O for its combat, quest diversity and the fact that it was first modern RPG that managed to preserve that crpg feeling then you will hate this one with passion.

    DA:I is not DA:O.
Hats off to BIO WARE for bouncing back from DA:2. This is a great game that can consume hundreds of hours of your time. Best storytelling, Tactical view has returned mixed with 3rd person hack and slash view, Best in-game sound, totally addicting. I recommend to try it for yourself. One of the Best role playing games I've played in PC. Instant classic.

This game is absolutely massive, the world is huge and the things you can do in the game is mind blowing, many hours of dialogues which are cool, well written and can tell you all the lore of whole franchise, the characters are great and each one of them very individual, they react to you differently based on you choices and finally the world is so huge with plenty very interesting places to discover.

On the technical side, game looks stunning, beautiful art design, good lighting, and it runs really well on my mid-range pc.(high/mid settings @1080p). Oh, forgot to mention, audio in general is also brilliant.

Now the bad - well when you pick up for the first time, controls feel slightly clunky, but you can get used to it (should be patched hopefully). But I assure, it's not that bad like some say. And looting is.. well it's annoying, because character won't go to pick by himself (you have to manually move him near the loot). But these are minor issues and you can easily get used to them.

Now some answers to critique on those ridiculous negative reviews:
    - pirates, don't be kids who didn't get their lollipop. I'm not fan of Denuvo, but doing this **** with copy/paste negative reviews, up voting those bad, down voting good is silly. Don't **** on game just because you can't play pirated version. I guess main reason of this mess going on here.
    - it's not continuous open world and it's a good thing. because you get bigger variety of environment and zones are large enough.
    - some consolish issues with controls are not that bad to drop the game.
    - side quests while being mostly generic are not bad. They are optional and have one purpose - to help explore the world (you don't even have to return to npc) and finally, nobody forces to do them.
    - game is not slow, unless you spend all your time in hinterlands. This is a tutorial zone to help new people to learn the game better and help to get used to it. You can skip all those bring x of y quests and move on to business
    - No, nobody forces you to listen to every single dialogue, tho I love them and find them accent of this franchise.
    - No it's not spiritual successor of Origins, it's not that heavily tactical game, tho if you really wish, it can be. Play on hard or nightmare and you will see you need to individually make order for each action and make reasonable decisions. And action approach is not necessarily bad if it is done right. I also hopped for tactical style like in Origins, but I'm not disappointment. This game is all about story, lore and characters, if you need tactical approach, go play Divinity Original sin.

This game is definitely worth buying. Which nowadays single player game can provide 100hours of gameplay or more? It feels great, it plays great. -1 for minor issues here and there, so 9/10 is fair.

And don't mind those red reviews, those are EA long term haters, pirates who hate denuvo, or typical "0 voters". If you want more honest information, go watch some YT reviews (for example Angry Joe) or any other objective reviewer from youtube community., Peace out!

I am running the game on a 780ti. I have a 144hz widescreen monitor to play at 16:9. When I first started the game it had automatically set the graphics settings to ultra and the frame rate to 144hz. While in gameplay the game looks good at 144hz, the cutscenes are where its shows the 30 fps cap the developers placed on it. I ultimately decided to switch to 60 fps and take one of the graphics settings down so it is not true "ultra" settings. Even at these settings, the cutscenes still had some "chop" to them. Of course, there is a quick fix for that if you look for it. I managed to play the entire game without having to resort to it, but at the same time I was avoiding any comments on the game until after I completed it.

As for the game itself, provided you have a good system to experience it fully, it is very well put together and the Frostbite 3 engine is exactly what BioWare needed to convey its stories. The unique visuals and vast landscapes do a fantastic job in fleshing the world. Dragon Age II had constantly reused maps for various quests. Inquisition on the other hand, feels more like Skyrim in that there are unique dungeons and areas scattered all over various maps and you can fast travel to waypoints near them if necessary. There are mounts for the game that make the travel that much quicker, but there are also plenty of resources on the ground that you will want for crafting and gear modifying later.

Combat feels a touch slower than in Dragon Age II, but that is probably a good thing considering how overpowered the player was in that game. I also dig the new ability for archer rogues to strafe or move while they auto-attack. Yes, there is auto-attack, even if some of the reviews say otherwise. You just hold the left mouse button down while you cast your special moves. You can even switch targets on the fly with tab key targeting.

The story of the game picks up where the second game left off and does a great job in introducing characters to the player, working them into the various plots, and letting the player know how their decisions affect their party or their moral stance. Finish a favor or quest for one of the characters and you will often find better items for them to equip. Gain a high approval rating with these characters and their overall respect for the player character becomes that much more believable. Yes, romance options are there.

I have played videogames for a long time, so much so that I find it harder and harder to start the next one and truly feel immersed in the story and atmosphere. I feel this one stands out amongst so many others over the years. I think its been a few years, in fact, since I last played a game through so quickly or put so much of my free time into it in such a short couple of weeks. If you are a fan of role-playing or adventure games, I say look no further until you've tried it.

This is a good game, but it's still miles away from the original Dragon Age: Origins. And Dragon Age: Origins was miles away from Mass Effect and KOTOR which were miles away from Some older Bioware games. My point being - Play DA: I, it's nice, but it's a fact that Bioware is going backwards.

Played on nightmare, so the combat was pretty fun. 90% of times in tactical camera.

In short: this game is huge but lacks of depth. I started getting bored after around 50/60 hours. The main story is not that great and the side quests are not that special. The main problem is that everything is not so merged. I had this feeling of not continuity, where I was exploring places totally disconnected from the main story, but without a real goal. It's just exploration and it gets repetitive as every area has the same format (camps, rifts, etc.).

I had hard times feeling part of a group: the mages, or the elves, I could never really immerge myself in the world they created.
I can't give it a bad score, because as I said the game is huge and detailed and very good, but still it's not what I hoped.
I guess you can't make a wonderful game like DA:O that easily and both the 2nd and the 3rd dragon age fail to be as good as the 1st was.

You run around and find stuff and do fetch quests etc. also it's buggy, my voice changed because of something I changed in the game, and it takes awhile to load sometimes and the A.I. is bad.... So why a 9? Because it's still freaking awesome! I really think these guys tried to put a quality product together and it shows. I like the characters, I want to know more about them, I like the way they designed the armor and weapons and I like the variety of locations and ambiances to those locations. The second you get bored of the fetch quests, you go talk to your companions and they have great things to say. There's an almost Shakespearean element to the Orlaiseans and there's always something else to do when you get bored. The fact that anyone gave this game a 0 or 1 is just wrong. Unless you couldn't run it, it totally doesn't deserve it. It's a labor of love, I think it may have been rushed but nothing game-breaking so far and the story to me is engaging. However, after playing this game for additional 8 hours, and killing 2 dragons, this game started making sense, and have a lot of fun factors.

It seems lots of people were disappointed, but in my opinion, this game is difficult to absorb in 6-10 hours, due to its massive scale with rich story line. You need to spend more time to see the glimpse of this game. In comparison, some book series have a huge scale in its story-line that first 3-5 books are boring because the first 3-5 books build up background and backbone of the core story-line. However, after 3-5 books, you are addicted to the rest of the series that you have to finish the series night and day.

I am excited right now because I know what I am going to do during the Christmas vacation. I deducted 1 point, due to some glitches I have faced and the system is forcing me to collect crafting materials repeatedly.

While it has its faults, chief among them the further dumbing down and cookie cutter aspect done to your character and companions as well as the oversimplified and nearly useless AI system for your companions. Yet despite those rather nasty faults, the game is both beautiful in its graphics and art as well as the world being massive for those of us who like exploring. Bioware did a grand job with the art, graphics and variety of everything visually environment to a large variety in your equipment appearance based upon materials used in its making - a solid 10 in my book for those aspects alone. The story is interesting and the huge crafting system is one of its other best aspects another solids 10 aspect for any non-MMO RPG.

However, because the negatives are so glaring and stand out so strongly to players, I will first expand further upon what I consider to be its biggest fault: They have taken away everything that makes your character unique beyond your appearance leaving you a cookie cutter of every other mage/rogue/warrior. First they took away your ability to assign stats and have your character's physical and mental attributes grow different from others. Now every mage, rogue or warrior is literally a cookie cutter of every other with all (your character and like companions) sharing fixed stats with very minor stat increases only gained from your skill choices and larger ones from equipment enhancements - both restricted depending upon your class. No longer can you choose to build a agile or cunning character that does better crits unless you are a rogue. Those stats (Dex and Cunning) are essentially blocked out for mages and warriors. Mages can only get improved Magic, Will and Con - their Strength, Cunning and Dexterity all remain stagnant at the starting "10." Warriors can get Strength and Con but apparently cannot improve Magic, Cunning, Will or Dex - those stats staying locked at their starting 10. Rogues are similarly limited to Strength, Con, Dex and Cunning with others stuck at the starting 10. This makes everyone exactly like everyone else of their type - no individuality allowed whatsoever beyond what skills/spells you focus on first. Furthermore they further reduced the number and variety of skills/spells available for you to use. Magic became further constrained with magical healing somehow, and without explanation, disappearing from Thedas. Potion spamming ala Diablo is now the only healing method.

The other notably large disappointment was the severely dumbed down AI system. You can no longer set conditions and actions as you could in DAO and DA2 - in other words, no pre-game huddle with your companions with orders to do certain things under certain conditions. If you want that you now must micro-manage the companions by pausing the game and giving them specific orders when you want them to do something particular.

Despite those rather nasty degradations to the DA franchise, I still give this game an overall positive score because it has listened to fans and made for a large and varied world to play in. No longer are you forced down narrow paths from point A to B to C and etc like you were in the previous two games. And importantly it isn't just a large empty world. There are creatures to be battled (and skinned), treasures and lore to be found as well as other crafting materials to be harvested for the awesome crafting system they have put in. Not only can you make all of your own equipment for you and your companions, but you can use a large array of different materials for a different appearance and effects. You can even make upgrades/enhancements for your equipment that also further change its appearance.

The story itself is interesting and memorable for the fact that they bring back many characters from the previous two games, though not all in appearance they are at least mentioned within the story and what they are now doing in the world. Leliana, my favorite companion from DAO, is back with a major role as one of the leaders/advisors of the Inquisition.

So, just as there is much to hate about Inquisition there is, in my opinion, so much more to enjoy as well. The environments are beautiful with varied weather and the characters are well voice acted. Oh and one other thing worth noting, though a small difference I think it makes for a very notable improvement to the game experience - particularly immersion. You can now climb and even JUMP up to new locations and over obstacles.

I have no idea what the complaint is about the DRM, I wouldn't have even known it was there unless I read these reviews. I bought the game from Origin, downloaded and launched. Job done.

Over all from about 5 hours play it seems like an enjoyable game. Are the graphics the best? - no. The Witcher 2 (which I am replaying at the moment) pisses all over this graphically, but it is a different game. The graphics are OK (on maximum), sometimes they look good, at others they looked aged, but it is not the be-all and end-all. The controls are buggy and the cuteness are laggy but the latest Nvidia drivers helped a lot there.

The game play I have seen is OK, not amazing, but I am only just starting out. I intend to keep it & shelf it
for 2-3 weeks and wait for a patch or two before I start a serious play-through. I think it will be a good game over all and I have no idea why there is so much hate around. People really need to calm themselves down. If video games leave you this angry, stop playing them and get another hobby.

I will aim to amend my review later on if things suddenly get really bad.

This game is so amazing. Its like the first one we loved so much. Everyday I find myself saying out loud thst I love this game. The graphics are great, the sounds.

I wish you could interact more with your inner circle though and it would be great if there were level markers for the areas.

    Much more pros than cons!

    Best game ever!

Then i check the punctuations, and i see like hundreds of 0, which makes me think (have people really played it, or people just come here to troll?)

Seriously, i feel like an 8 at least is well deserved, i could understand perhaps a 4 for people which did not like it or got disappointed because it did not extremely change from previous versions, but less than that? Ridiculous.

Awesome graphics, almost no bugs, nice playability, big maps, available to make decisions and personalize your character (not only making it, but also clothing, weapons, magic perks...) and your companions.

One could think (i will not trust professional reviewers because perhaps they got paid for good critics), but hell, seems like user score is a trolling, underestimating fest.

Looks like a war between different companies goes on by here, as almost each "top expected" game, receives a **** user score.

However it is now right up there with the best games of the year, even with its flaws.

Straight away the graphics are very impressive, playing at high resolution (1440p) and on ultra, this game looks better than almost anything I have played before. The environments you will explore are vast, detailed, varied and believable.
On the technical side of things, this is a complete and finished game. It does not feel like it was rushed at the last minute to meet deadlines and has very few bugs considering the scope of the game.
The game appears to be very well optimized with a wide variety of graphical options and has no major performance concerns, however you should be aware that this does not mean it will be well suited to low end systems - good optimization is meant in the context of the game being graphically impressive and performing well with suitably powerful hardware.

On the gameplay side of things. you take a party of 4 that can be chosen from a pool of several characters you meet throughout the game, it is almost an exact copy of the mechanics used previously in the Mass Effect games. Combat uses a standard mmo type hotbar system for abilities and spells and of course weapon, armor and abilities can all be changed around and upgraded.
The bulk of the content aside from the slightly disjointed and confusing (but enjoyable) story revolves around traditional mmo style sidequests and main mission structures - do one mission and find another along the way that leads to somewhere else. It is nothing that has not been done before and combat is not particularly deep. Luckily variety, locations and story keep things interesting throughout the extensive length of the game.
No element on it's own is groundbreaking, but everything is put together as a cohesive package and is well polished to ensure that the overall experience is one you will want to keep playing until the end.

Despite the above, there are some aspects of the game design that I feel could have been done better.
Character and equipment management is slow, fiddly and unintuitive, especially when it comes to managing multiple party members and trying to make an optimum build as there is no easy way to compare who has what stats and equipment across your entire range of selectable characters.
Some aspects of gameplay are not well explained and can cause confusion early on in the game such as the power and perks systems, equipment/armor upgrade systems and the way you send scouts out.

I also found the mouse and keyboard controls took some getting used to - they are similar in style to a standard 3rd person mmo but for the first few hours of gameplay I had issues trying to move the camera efficiently during combat. It would often spin around to face me away from enemies or have targeting issues, however after rebinding a few controls (specifically reversing the look/attack mouse buttons, and ensuring the camera follows the terrain elevation) it gradually became a non-issue but I did reach a point about an hour in where I was almost ready to quit in anger.

Overall: Technically proficient, beautiful graphics, decent story, enjoyable combat, poor character management.

For those who were expecting an RPG that was filled with lore, beautiful landscape, intriguing storyline and just that something extra, then this is definitely the game for you :)

With regards to the combat system, I concur with some commentary that it is a little clunky. However, that being said, unless your IQ level resides somewhere around room temperature, the system isn't hard to adapt to or even understand. Bioware does a great job at helping users understand the system.

Secondly, whilst the graphics may not be at the quality of a Diablo 3 cut scene they are in no way as weak as some reviews have made it out to be. The character creation interface, landscaping, item detail provides a wonderful insight.

The storyline is excellent, leaving users with hard decisions to make that ultimately can have an effect on a later outcome, depending on choices you make. Your fellow compainions love/hate are also impacted by choices. The humour is there to enjoy, not condemn and whilst sometimes predictable, players are also at times second guessing what's next to do. What is the right choice? How can i create a win/win scenario etc.

Ultimately i hink this game is fantastic and look forward to spending many enjoyable hours playing the game.

A lot of the hate appears to be system issues, people not understanding the combat system (hey reading is tech right!) or was expecting DA: Origins 2.0.

For those who have played the game with an open mind, attempted to give it an actually go so will see in the positive response. For all those 0's due to "Derrr i crashed.....Derrr i don't know how to loot, is it LMB or RMB" are just a tragedy.

People are really grasping hard to justify their EA hate on this one. The fact of the matter is, DAI on PC is not a perfect game and has some unfortunately memorable bugs and issues. However, it is still objectively speaking one of the most expansive and ambitious RPGs created in the last decade (maybe more). Personally speaking, it was an extremely enjoyable but not perfect experience.

You all have likely heard about the best parts of DAI over and over by now. The lush landscapes, the wonderful world fleshed out by a who cadre of minor and major characters with superb voice acting, and the by now world-famous storytelling that Bioware has become renowned for, the list goes on and on. What you should also know is a few key features that definitely marr the game a little:

-the character builder is incredibly deep in facial building, but falls completely flat in hairstyles. Look at 20 male characters and I guarantee at least half will be sporting the shaved-sides look because it's one of the only hairstyles that doesn't look awful. And yet there are at least six or seven different kinds of bald head. It's absolutely baffling how this aspect of the character creator could have been so overlooked.

-the decision to make a number of conversations non-cutscene doesn't really make sense to me. Perhaps if we were better able to control the camera angle during these scenes, but the majority are too zoomed out, the audio will shift depending on your distance from the speaker, and overall they just feel much more underwhelming.

-the tactical camera, as I'm sure you've heard but is worth mentioning again, is godawful on the PC. The controls for that were clearly designed for consoles. It must be very frustrating for people playing this on Nightmare since they're going to be spending a lot of time in that mode during combat.

-the mothereffin' Hinterlands. Bioware did a wonderful job in crafting a huge, open starting area *full* of things to do but it became very clear on launch day that way too many people were spending too much time in that area and getting bored because they weren't progressing with the story. The thing is, the way that you progress in story missions is that you build Power as a currency to "pay" for the important missions (for instance, the first story mission after the intro costs 8 power to initiate) and you get Power by doing all sorts of things in the open world, but that isn't so readily explained to you. Tutorializing really could go a long way toward making the earlier hours more streamlined. It was so necessary that even Bioware's Facebook page felt it necessary to release a post basically saying "LEAVE THE HINTERLANDS!"

But for all the faults, all the bugs, this is still one of my favorite RPGs in memory. Games like Skyrim, the Witcher 2, Mass Effect etc all have their place but the depth of the storytelling, open world, crafting, and exploration that is Dragon Age Inquisition sets it apart. I find people hating on this game for the stupidest of reasons, the worst I've seen probably being the fact that you can hook up with a Qunari companion. It was nicknamed "Riding the Bull" and garnered such masterpieces as "what a surprise, a game made by SJWs is complete garbage". I can't even begin to comprehend how narrow-minded someone has to be to think that any non-traditional romance roles are basically SJWs pandering to pan-sexual lobbying of some sort. Don't buy into the crap people are spewing at it. I'm only reviewing this game this late because I've already sunk almost a hundred hours into it. Those who love the game aren't the ones here bashing it two days after release.

However, the game excels in playability! between 100-200 playing hours! Come on guys! this is the longest RPG game I have played in a very long time. If you follow the reviews, this is obviously a hate-love game. I personally LOVED it!

Let me open with this, Dragon Age Inquisition is a good game. I am enjoying putting so many hours in it and don't regret the all nighter I pulled the night it came out, and I would love to give this a 8/10.

Unfortunately for PC the are problems. First and foremost, and honestly the worst offender (yeah everyone crying about "auto attacks" and "poor menu" and all that minor griping this is what a real issue is) is that something is creating massive CPU usage on the main menu and load screens. I've heard it's the DRM, but I will swear to nothing as I am not positive as to the cause. On load screens processors are spiking to 90-100% usage and there is a high chance of it causing a thermal shutdown of your computer with insufficient cooling. Until that gets fixed, I would recommend anyone interested in this game to ensure good cooling for your processor.

Now then, other things that have been brought up is lack of auto attack, though you can simply hold one button (M1, R, or whatever you assign), so it's not that big a deal. The menu however, does leave one wanting as not very many items are displayed at once, and could use general improvement. I also saw complaints about not being to click to interact because it is attack. Yes, left click attacks. Right click will interact, and as usual the camera can also be controlled by holding right mouse button.

Moving on past addressing some of the complaints with a bit more clarity, things about the game itself. It is, as has been said though some people don't seem to get, NOT open world. It has very large areas for you to explore, but it is not one seamless open world. The Hinterlands in particular so far (I have not finished the game) are a very decent size. Leveling up is different as well. You no longer receive attribute points, only skill points. Different skills will grant different stats, meaning you will have to take into account both skill effect and the stat bonus when deciding what to put points into.

Each piece of equipment has different upgrade slots instead of just the old rune slots now. For example there's no gauntlet item slot now, it is an upgrade slot on chest armor. There are recipes scattered about and the crafting materials to create items are pretty well varied with each material giving different effects depending on what slot type they are in. I like the crafting, however the downside is if you require a new sword for your warrior and don't have enough of the material that gives strength, you will have to go out and find some more which at times can be tedious unless you have a good grasp on where to find the different materials.

Default keybindings are somewhat wonky for those used to Dragon Age on PC, but all the buttons can be reassigned so I doubt anyone who takes more than two minutes will find issue with that.

The story as far as I have gotten has me interested. I'm enjoying the political background of it , trying to overcome the people decrying you as blasphemous or other things, and the inner conflict of people within the inquisition (such as Mages and former Templars working together). Party banter can reveal new aspects of your companions that may not have shown in early chats with them and the voice acting (to me at any rate) is good with most characters.

Graphics are (on good settings) nice and shiny, and I mean shiny quite literally in some cases (lips being the one I most often seem to notice). Character creation is pretty good, though I feel some more hair variety would be better.

Finally, combat is a bit more fast paced, and some changes were made for stamina/mana. Stamina and mana now are simply 100 (at least right now, there may be ways to increase I just haven't come across yet, plus I haven't checked the actual number value for it in a couple levels), and so instead of building up a large pool that regens slowly in combat, it is a small pool that more quickly regens. There are several passives for each class that helps with stamina regen and they become important fairly early on. Animations have been improved and spell effects look nice, but from what I'm seeing the trees it looks like some of the big destruction spells aren't really there (like Inferno). Also, healing spells have been removed (except for revive), putting instead an emphasis on buffs like Barrier, basically a spell that grants a second health bar to allies in an aoe. Potions are given a higher priority and have several different types as well. Unfortunately you can no longer fully customize party tactics either.

TLDR/Closing: Overall I am greatly enjoying myself. There is certainly the smell of console port, and combined with the load screen/main menu cpu usage, it takes away from what could have easily been something I'd give a 9/10 to. With the return of custom tactics, a better item menu, some bug cleanup and the fixing of the massive cpu hogging on load screens, this would be an amazing game. As it is, it is still very fun.

To preface, I loved DA:Origins, reasonably enjoyed DAO:Awakening, and never finished DA2 because It struck me as utter garbage with no soul.

That being said, I have to give DA: Inquisition a 9. I think that the ability system is fairly bland (like DA:O), the tactical combat camera is very poorly implemented, and they seem to have made a mistake in putting too much cookie cutter content into the first major area (Hinterlands). Outside of those issues it is a beautiful and engaging piece of work.

The world is extremely large and detailed, the story is fun and enjoyable, combat isn't as strategic or difficult (even on nightmare), as I would have preferred, but its still fun and doesn't really seem to get boring.

One last bit I wanted to mention. I have seen some people upset with the fact that there are some 'MMO' elements. I take this to mean re-spawning baddies and materials. I can see how this may put some people off, but I enjoy it, as it makes the world seem less dead (can you ever really clear out all the bandits?), and it allows much more experimentation in crafting gear (you're not paranoid about using those high end materials 'perfectly').

TLDR: Its not the perfect 3D Baldur's Gate 2 that I've wanted for years, but its a great game in and of itself. DA2 was truly nothing cash grab garbage, but DA: Inquisition is worth your time and money. Pick it up.

I am going to lead off by saying that this is by no means a perfect game. I can say, however, that without the rose-coloured goggles so common in such comparisons, that Inquisition is a strong contender for best game in the trilogy to date.

I am going to lead off by saying that this is by no means a perfect game. I can say, however, that without the rose-coloured goggles so common in such comparisons, that Inquisition is a strong contender for best game in the trilogy to date.

First off, Inquisition is big. It's not big in the sense of Skyrim-big or Fallout-big where you wander through one large monotonic environment fighting wild animals and random bandits for the sake of loot and XP, it is big in the sense of Origins-big or Star Wars-big where you really get the sense you're existing in a gigantic and well-thought-out world. The sheer variety and visual expansiveness of what you get puts this high on my list of best settings in video games.

Secondly, Inquisition is densely-populated. These areas are big because they're full; every corner you wander to, every cave, every nook and cranny and hill will have fights and sidequests and interesting things to go hunting for. You can pick a direction, walk off that way, and never be bored. The inevitable slew of fedex quests are given a life of their own through the narrative tying them back to the setting and the plot; you're never asked to go kill ten mountain goats for no reason, you're asked to go find food for starving refugees and when you get back the quest-giver will tell you how pleased he is that the Inquisition is going to look out for the underdogs that nobody cares for, your organization's influence will go up, and some of your companions will approve. Everything ties back together, everything feels like it matters.

Third, combat is engaging. People have complained that Inquisition is 'dumbed down' because the set of abilities is smaller than it was in Origins; that is technically true, there are about half as many abilities for a given class in Inquisition as in Origins. Combat, however, feels less like an MMO where you set up an optimal macro and toss out the same spells in the same sequence to win every fight; your physical position matters a lot more and the abilities you're given are suited to different situations instead of something being strictly better than something else. Ability combos from Dragon Age 2 are back with increased depth; there are more conditions to exploit and more ways to exploit them.

Fourth, BioWare's characters are back in top form; I've found a little more depth to the companions here than in prior games. Characters in Mass Effect and DA2 have a set of strongly-held and unshakeable convictions barring the occasional one-time change of heart in a personal quest; Inquisition shows us characters who are willing to set aside their personal prejudices for the sake of the mission and have more multidimensional motivations. My protagonist feels more like a character himself than a sounding board for the rest of the cast to bounce off of or the cliched one-dimensional three Hawke personalities.

Inquisition is not all sunshine, rainbows, and a gigantic world that is a joy to explore, unfortunately; the game plays on PC like it was intended for consoles, and has some distracting control scheme issues that detract from the experience. The tactical camera is moved with the arrow keys, there's no mouse pan, and menus will occasionally bug out and not recognize the mouse (it is a good idea to learn to navigate them with the keyboard for when this happens; I've never seen it happen in gameplay, only in menu screens). The lack of click-to-move makes getting to things to pick up and loot frustrating and when combined with the camera angles in non-main-plot conversations sometimes leads to strange body positions. Facial animation and body language haven't advanced here and we're still stuck with the same limited suite of animations earlier BioWare games have used. The main plot starts off abruptly and without adequate explanation; the story finds its stride quickly, however.

This is not a traditional cliched fantasy game; if you want the story of a lone muscular hero slaughtering their way through hordes of foes in a monochromatic setting for the experience points and battling an evil overlord with dragon-bone plate armour and a legendary sword reforged from the shards of his father's (who the evil overlord killed, of course) go somewhere else. This is the story of a world, with a thirteen-member ensemble cast leading an army, doing battle in forests with swords and in the court of public opinion with words, both with equal proficiency. This is a story where you have the power to shape the destiny of nations, not by killing a king and then wandering off to go grind some more but by building infrastructure and political power. Inquisition is a worthy successor to Origins as a detailed and intense dark fantasy that subverts and rewrites the conventions of the genre with equal glee and comes out with a cohesive and intelligent narrative and a fun game on the other side.

Why, you ask? I'm love with old school RPG's. I loved DA:O a lot, and played Dragon Age II just for the story, only once. Loved Mass Effect, liked Mass Effect 2 and hate ME3 ending, and ME3 in general. DAII was awfull. DA:I it's not. After playing it, I see the interviews and understand when they say "that's the Dragon Age we always wanted to make". It's the improved version of Origins.

The Graphics are not only amazing. Are breathtaking. And not only the views. The details of characters, their faces, animations... Every aspect of the visuals it's perfectly done.

The combat... Is perfect. I can't think how can be improved in anyway. The tactical camera is perfect, the AI response is nice, the difficulty, correct.

The story is a bit boring at the very beggining, but after a couple of missions, it turns in one of the best so far, with a couple of moments that will make you cry, of jump out of your sit to yell **** YES!!!

The characters are all well written. The way they react on your decisions, the way they even argue with you at some points, the way they even look you bad or with sad eyes when you say something they don't want to ear... Again, it's amazing.

And the crafting... I don't understand how the people behind the horrible DAII crafting and DA:O not-so-horrible-but-boring-and-unnecesary crafting system can create on Inquisition that wonder, that diamond. The crafting system is perfect, is like a gem, perfectly carved. It can be the best crafting I ever seen.

The Multiplayer is correct, and very interesting. It have a lot of potential. Same crafting system, same combat and same leveling system, everything simplified and harder to achieve. It's a bit repetitive, like ME3 multiplayer, but it's fun enough, and with a couple of free DLC to expand it and some special events, like Bioware did in ME3 multiplayer, it will improve a lot.

So, don't doubt it, Dragon Age: Inquisition is a masterpiece. And it comes from me. I cannot forgive Bioware for what they did in ME3, or DAII. I've lost my faith in them since they joined EA, but Inquisition is really the best first step they can get in the long way to redemption with their fan base.

And all the 0 and low scores out there... I don't know what they talking about. So far, I have not bugs, the game runs fine, and without problems. Maybe they have come here to talk about other games, because I read a lot of bad critics down here, and I think they are not talking of the same game.

Is it worth a 10? No, but it's damn good. Clearly they have not progressed past the incredibly large first area where yes, there is that element of MMO-esque quests; which are entirely optional. The game is huge, freaking huge and there are a *lot* of quests. Most of them are great, too. People are focusing on one aspect of it and demonizing the entire game without a fair chance. And I mean, seriously, wtf, I have seen "0" given out over reviews of reviews. People are freaking reading the reviews, and then giving the game a "0" based on the reviews without playing like a giant "0" star review circle jerk. LOL come on, then they negatively review anyone that gives positivity

To give it a "0" is ludicrous, but people are throwing it out like candy out of sheer ignorance.

    My Scores:
    Replayability: 7
    Graphics: 8
    Scenery: 8
    Story: 8
    Fun: 9

It made me giggle like a school girl, laugh and cry. There are emotional moments, and there are great moments. People *cannot* judge this game so quickly down the drain, because they haven't even SCRATCHED the surface of what it truly is, and most likely have not even progressed past the areas enough to see the potential and fun. The very first area, the hinterlands alone, I have 13 hours logged in and I'm not even close to finishing, I left it to do the story quests. It's that large; but it's those quests people are complaining about. You literally do not have to do the MMO quests if you hate them, they are side quests FFS.

There are bugs, and there are glitches. But holy crap, the game came out like yesterday. And if you are complaining about DRM, you're a pirate and need to GTFO with that weak sauce, this one won't be cracked soon, sorry and get over it

    Negatives:
UI is sketchy for PC and needs work
having to hold mouse button to attack takes getting used to
    Bugs, ofc

Dragon Age 1 was phenomenal. Dragon Age 2 was like playing a novel.

Dragon Age 3, Bioware called out Bethesda in the next-gen gaming world. Seriously. Fans wanted exploration, a lot of characters, and an interesting battle system plus multiplayer. Bioware delivered on all fronts.

It's like the whole game is saying "Your move, Bethesda."

I played this game for its narrative and game play, and by God does it deliver! The story so far is pretty impressive and the choices you do make matter. For example, a small one shall suffice. I was in the Hinterlands after around 5-6 hours playing, and I come across a castle by chance. Inside was a cult of Andraste, who were having issues with demons. I helped the cult out and they pledged to join my Inquisition. I headed back to camp, and they were there. Another example is when I was doing an odd quest in Redcliffe village around 10-16 hours in the game and I came across a woman who needed help with potions. I told her she should join my group, and again when I arrived back a few hours later, she was at my camp helping refugees. These two examples are small, but I've used them so people can actually ignore what some jumped up techno-warriors are complaining about when they feel disappointed on release that it's buggy after only playing maybe 5-6 hours; hell, neatly every game I've played had some sort of problem on release ( that's excluding mmos)

Once you get passed the techno-issues, the game itself is actually great.

Epic scale storytelling. Great voice acting from Alix Wilton Regan and new companions. No "female armor" issue and doesn't capitulate to misogynist male gamers like most RPG titles.

    The bad:

Less actual quality quest time than any previous BioWare game, replaced with time wasting fluff quests.
Environments are huge but entirely lacking in interesting or meaningful content.
No real cities (Val Royeau is just a cheap shell.)
Cardboard protagonist with dull dialogue and essentially no background, history, or family. A huge contrast from Hawke, who, with Bethany and her family, were among the most vibrant characters of DAII. Also a bad contrast from DAO, where background felt like it mattered. The deadness of the protagonist also means her interactions with other NPCs are less believable.
Outside of the main cast, most NPCs are of the one-dimensional Elder Scrolls type.
Important choices from DAII (particularly Mages vs Templars) have essentially no impact on anything here.
Console-esque gameplay and total disregard for PC gamers regarding controls.

    In short:

BioWare is milking out on the trend towards huge environments (at the expense of interesting ones), timewasting quests, mindless gameplay, and console domination, while attempting to retain some vestige of their earlier work. In the end we get a game I still like better than Skyrim, but that is considerably worse than even Dragon Age II.

Combat combines artistic flair with the requirement of considerable tactical prowess. Inquisition has just about everything you could want in an RPG title. Unfortunately the game is marred by a number of technical issues on the PC version specifically that made play aggravating at times. A large chunk of play time is taken up by dull search-and-recover side quests. The tactical camera, such a huge part of Origins combat, is mostly useless. Characters, though entertaining, often lacked development or multi-dimensionality, and a pair of awesome plot twists weren't able to save the game from an otherwise underwhelming ending. Bioware continues to make improvements to the playability of their PC version, but it's unfortunate that the most loyal fans of the series, the ones who bought the game first at full price, were hit with the worst of it. By no means perfect, but still an amazing and highly enjoyable game. Can't go without playing this one. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a good game, but it is not a great game. It has better graphics than its predecessors, but that's about it. The combat, sadly, has little depth. I remember doing combos all the time in DA 2 with my mage and my party warriors, but there are very few combos in this game. There is no blood magic and a mage has very few satisfying skills and almost no auras. I had to pause the game a lot when I played DA 2 and think about the combat strategy, but here there is no thinking involved and I have never paused the game even once, apart from targeting skills, and was just killed by a dragon once on normal mode. Is that a good thing? You decide. Also, I don't like any of the female characters in this DA. I loved Morrigan. And I miss the Mabari bloodhound. Still, nice maps and it has a more open world than the games before it 6.5/10 Expand

The game is certainly one of the better Bioware efforts. Large world, much to explore, if you're into that kind of stuff and some interesting characters.

Three reasons, why I don't rate this any higher. This doesn't even try to give the appearance of being ported to PC. It's just playable on PC. Slapped on. Smoothly, I give them that. But if you haven't got a controler to hook up,
The game is certainly one of the better Bioware efforts. Large world, much to explore, if you're into that kind of stuff and some interesting characters.

Three reasons, why I don't rate this any higher.

This doesn't even try to give the appearance of being ported to PC. It's just playable on PC. Slapped on. Smoothly, I give them that. But if you haven't got a controler to hook up, you're in for some fingerbreaking experiences. I am among the lucky ones, owning an Xbox controler, which I haven't hooked up for several years. So I can enjoy my game, but this isn't any excuse for the shoddiest port I've ever seen. I tried to play it with keyboard and mouse, as I'm used to, but that's hard labor and not at all an ejoyable experience. Folks, nothing wrong with designing for consoles, but if you want to cater to PC also, take care of the controls and the UI. This is abysmal.

Second minus is combat. I much rather play my games relaxed and don't care much about combat difficulty. But this is even too easy for my tastes. It boils down to button mashing. Nothing else involved. The major thing, you have to look for, is friendly fire. It does much more damage to your party than the enemies. So I turned it off, since my party killing their own, doesn't add to the absent challenge anyway.

Third minus, as is usual with every game today, are the FedEx quests. It's not my biggest gripe, since it happens all over the board, with every game. As opposed to others, I don't even find it boring, since I always had a collector instinct in games. These quests give you some reasons to explore the maps and there's almost always some interesting loot involved. Minus nonetheless, since it shouldn't be an excuse to not include at least some challenging quests.

So, it's a 7 for me. An enjoyable experience, given that I have a controler. It would be much less, if I was stuck with keyboard and mouse. This, for me, is the cardinal sin on the PC platform.

It is always good to start on a positive note…I think. With that, let’s talk about Thedas. It really is a beautiful world and exploring new regions within it are refreshing and awe-inspiring. The Desert Oasis and Western Approach in Orlais, for example, are rich terrains that provide a nice retreat from the mountains, woodlands, deep roads and walled cities that are so common in fantasy games. Those areas are still beautiful and full of detail but the new regions really inspire the explorer within.
The main story is good, albeit short. The protagonist character is likeable and his/her role as The Inquisitor is mysterious and meaningful. The party companions like to talk about themselves, a lot. This offers hours of dialogue in itself. This can range from mundane to interesting but all in all it adds depth and personality to their identities. They also provide amusing background banter while wandering about. Varric, in particular, provides a very humorous commentary as he saunters beside you throughout the land.
Both the ambient sounds and music are fantastic. The audio and visual aspects of this game make it feel like you are back in Thedas once again and Thedas is a wonderful place to be, (if you can get past all the demons, racism and dirty politics.)
The number one shining gold star that DA: Inquisition earns is for the dragon battles. These battles are tough, require strategy and are truly enjoyable. The dragons are big, have different elemental attacks and immunities, and require proper potion management. These battles are easily the best part of the game—that could be even better if the tactical camera worked properly.

Which brings me to the Cons.

Bioware made promises to the PC fundamentalists that they were including them in the production of this game and the tactical camera was the primary element they dangled in front of those discouraged by DA2. Bioware dropped the ball on this one, massively. The tactical camera can best be described as clunky, confusing, frustrating and even useless. The best way to enjoy this game on PC is to abandon the hope of ever using the pause-and-play element—except during big boss battles when it is painstakingly essential.
So what if DA:I is an action RPG and not a tactical RPG? At least the combat is still fun, right? Well, mostly. It is fun but often the camera controls can be distracting. Sometimes the best way to win a fight is to simply mash the left-button and spam your character’s most powerful attack resulting in a rather lackluster experience.
Magic users will find the available spells fairly uninspiring. Spells are limited to the elements and do not offer anything original. Chain lightening, fireballs and blizzards are spells we have all used many times before. Beyond that, both spells and non-magic attacks are limited to eight per character, a result of being restricted by the number of buttons on a game controller. Many in the PC community see this as further evidence they have been overlooked and excluded from Bioware/EA’s demographic pool.
There is a lot of loot in the game. Unfortunately it’s mostly useless. It does convert to gold easily, but that too, is mostly useless. Gold piles up much faster than one can spend it. And honestly, there isn’t much to spend it on. Schematics and recipes are worthy purchases. However, the best weapons and armor in the game are crafted and not purchased or dropped.
The focus on crafting is cool. The problem that lies within is that it becomes tedious and time-consuming to gather resources, craft, upgrade, and equip all of the party members (ten—including yourself) with level-appropriate gear. The crafting system itself requires you to utilize several different workstations and inventories which produces a rather cumbersome experience. Even then, even when the equipment is sufficient, there is a feeling that the game lacks anything unique or valuable.
All in all, a good story can redeem a game with mechanical or style flaws and still be very enjoyable. As mentioned earlier, the story is good. However, the ratio of time dedicated to the primary storyline is very short when compared to the hours upon hours that one can spend running errands and collecting resources. The errands are good for leveling up, acquiring support and helping widows find remnants of their massacred lovers. Collecting resources even feels important for a couple hours. Eventually though, being incessantly attacked by bears and wild dogs becomes a nuisance. DA:I would benefit greatly from a better balance between more story and less fetching.

    Minor Gripes and Peeves
-NPCs are brick walls that do not budge.
-Clunky looting controls and unnecessarily long resource picking animation.
-Quest items mixed with valuables creates confusion.
    -No blood magic.
    -No backup/secondary weapon slot.
    -So many bears.
-Couldn’t get a pint of mead or a flagon of ale in the pub.

This is 100% a go-to game if you would like a traditional western RPG, and one would get you into the rich Dragon Age universe.

The cons would be the side missions and multiplayer. MP is pointless, so do side missions. They are just some notes tipped with some to-dos for you to fulfill. Waste of time and don't help the story at all. This one Bioware can learn from CD Project Red, how they tackle side missions. MP, not much to say. It's one of those shareholder or publisher compromises made to the development team, even though they wouldn't want one in a RPG game. And yes, EA did it anyways.

An "open world" without a day and night cycle? Really? NPCs just standing at a fixed location or the occasional NPC running back and forth between point A and B? Seriously? The map spawns templars and mages randomly that fight each other, Bioware was so lazy that templars and mages only have one character model each. Apparently the engine also has problems with heights, as enemies that are on a higher or lower elevation than the party don't take note of you.
Finally the RPG elements have been further dumbed down, attributes are now leveled up automatically, you only get to pick the skills out of 3 skill trees for each character class. Each class is limited to a set of weapons: a mage can only use a staff, for a warrior you need to choose at the beginning if you want to use a sword & shield or a two-handed weapon, for a rogue you need to choose at the beginning whether you want to use a bow & arrow or dual wield daggers. Want to play a warrior who dual wields swords? Well, you can't!
Character models are among the ugliest I have ever seen, with female looking butch rather than feminine. The story is so bad, once again focusing on templars vs. mages, the same thing we've been through in DRAGON AGE 2 and to some extent in DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS. Apparently all creative heads have left Bioware leaving only SJWs behind.
Bioware thought it more important to put SJW elements in the game than to create a believable open world: you have a transgender character here, with another character coming out to defend that vigorously. Somehow that was more important than a day & night cycle or NPCs that don't just stand around like trees.
DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION also lacks atmosphere: the world seems to brightly colored, enemies don't look menacing at all and gone is the dark fantasy setting from the original.
DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION also looks and plays like it was designed primarily for consoles and then ported to PC: the HUD is over-sized and butt-ugly, cluttering up most of the screen with huge character portraits, health bars and worst of all, constant mission objectives taking up about one third of the screen. Bioware, have you ever heard of IMMERSION? No, guess not, just gay romances and trannies, eh?
Then the controls are terrible as well: to pick up an item, you have to stand a pixel away from it at the most, wait for a tiny circle to appear, then right-click inside this tiny circle, then select from a loot menu. Click outside the tiny circle and the character will move away. Oh, yeah, walking is bad, too, somehow the characters "overshoot" when you try to walk on a ledge. The camera angles are the worst, you feel unnecessarily distanced from your characters, then the "tactical view" is horrible to control and unhelpful. This game was made for consoles only, mouse & keyboard controls will give you cramps! There is nothing positive about DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION. Absolutely nothing!
DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION does deserve a reward: WORST RPG ever made. And no, that's no exaggeration, it really is that bad! This is definitely the LAST Bioware game I'm ever gonna buy! They announced DRAGON AGE IV - well, they can shove that where the sun don't shine!!!

I'm loving the game, but I'm starting with the bad because it's easier to complain than it is to compliment:

Combat mechanics have never been Bioware's strong point, and I've continued enjoying their games in spite of that since Baldur's Gate, but it's worse than usual here. Thankfully, after a few hours, I became comfortable enough with the controls that it never became a deal-breaker.

The controls are bad. The left-click to swing mechanic is a bizarre design decision that impacts your ability to control your character throughout the rest of the game. Being limited to eight abilities sucks; after a certain point, advancing my character starts to feel like wasted effort, because I can't actually use any of my new abilities without giving up the ones I've already earned. Animation-locks on attacks and abilities are painfully long which, combined with the character turning and accelerating slowly, makes me feel like I'm never truly in control of my character.

The tactical camera is nearly useless. I use it to make my party avoid dragons' fireballs, and that's it; any more interaction than that is just begging for frustration.

One of the pre-release reviews I read said Bioware had "hilariously overcorrected" for the small and reused areas in Dragon Age 2. This is pinpoint-accurate. Dragon Age 2 had a small footprint, but the quest content in that footprint was actually very well-focused and well-executed. DAI made their areas massive, and then tried to stuff the same area:content ratio into that space. They bit off way more than they could chew. The vast majority of things to do in DAI are MMO-style throwaway fetch/gather quests. It's like they used SWTOR as a model for sidequest building instead of a cautionary tale. I had a huge disappointment last night with a massive quest that had me running back and forth across an entire (huge) desert for hours, and I found nothing but an empty room with a chest of loot as my payoff.

Attention Bioware: quality over quantity next time. The best sidequest I can think of would have been the weakest sidequest in DA2.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make my character walk instead of run. Turns out it's not possible, which is baffling.

Those are the negative things I have to say. In spite of those complaints, I'm enjoying the game immensely.

Companion interactions are the best they've ever been. I absolutely love all of the new characters (save one whose entire personality consists of being completely poised at all times and calling me "dear" a lot). Seeing the way characters from DAO and DA2 have developed, and helping them along in that development, is incredibly gratifying. If you enjoy going back to camp, the Normandy, or the Hanged Man to talk to your companions, you'll love it in DAI.

I like the crafting system a lot. The level of customization in both appearance and stats is surprisingly good. Finding recipes has been a challenge, which is either good or bad depending on the type of player you are.

The world is gorgeous. The graphical quality itself is solid, but the attention to detail is excellent. I have lots of peeves with the little details in every game I play, but none of them are present here. Except the hair. The hair sucks. The areas themselves are big and beautiful. Each companion having distinct styles for their various sets of armor was a great touch.

In spite of the MMO-style sidequests, the main storyline is fantastic, and all the companion quests have been good. There are big, tough choices, several of which I can't wait to explore the other side(s) of.

This game is far from perfect, but it easily comes out on top. Some of the problems will hopefully be solved by patches and mods. The biggest problem is the handling of sidequests. If you can suppress your completionist streak long enough to avoid completing every single quest you run across, you'll have fun.

Good game. Easily worth buying, even if I wish they'd done some things differently.

My human male was announced as a female... Not sure what happened there, so i had to make another character. The first thing I really noticed about the game was the glitches, which isn't exactly a good thing as you might imagine. Next, were the controls, tough to get used to, and hardly efficient. The frame rate, is honestly a battle i am still struggling with, (I am using an Alienware 17 Nvidia 770M) I can't run the game on ultra as I am used to, but I can run it on a mixture of high and the former mentioned setting.

With all that out of the way, what the game gets right is unbelievable. Inquisition is an experience I will never forget. i am 50 hours in, and I already am thinking about my next play through. What character will i romance? What class will I pick? What choices will I make? I honestly believe that you could make the same character twice, and experience completely different stories if you desired. The sheer amount of time, effort, as well as love that went into this game, from the developers, is almost unreal. Seriously, this game is massive. Be prepared for quite a lengthy first play through. This game takes major steps in the right directions, yet ultimately due to it's flaws, does not live up to it's full potential. My only hope is that they patch some of the clunky controls, as well as the the frame rate issues that plague this masterpiece. Unfortunately, the reason these become so apparent, is because the rest of the game is so well done. it is a great game, you will get your monies worth. Now, go buy it Champ!

Graphics: Ultra w/ no Anti Aliasing

(A little history: I have played through DA:O and DA2 in many characters on many levels of difficulty. Also the entire ME series. I know from whence I speak.)

This is not DA:O and it was not meant to be DA:O. Therefore, I chose not to judge the game by its predecessors, but rather on its own merits.

Solid and slightly reminiscent game play, definitely not the horror show that has run amuck in these reviews. What was an incredible pain is the controls.Yes, it was a rushed PC port and I believe that this has soured the game for those using the venerable mouse and keyboard. HOWEVER, it is far from broken and once I acclimated and played with the key assignment, it has rarely bothered me again.

It also tends to rarely and randomly crash to desktop with a DirectX error, but that is more annoying than an actual deal breaker.

Apart from that, the graphics are amazing. I love the detail and the fresh upgrades to old characters. I did bypass the tactical view due to the drunk monkey controls and just used the the 3rd person view for directing the battle. I do feel like I am grinding with some of the side quests and I get the chilling ME3 feeling with the "War Room," but I believe there is enough DNA from past incarnations to keep the game from falling into that nightmare.

If anything this game takes the best of Origins and DA2, melding them together with upgraded and stunning visuals. An open world environment really adds to the game and is a needed improvement from DA2's repetitive and claustrophobic "Free Marches." The animations are fluid and well crafted, but the interface is a little cluttered and indirect.

The only thing Dragon Age has ever required from its players is patience; the reward being an utterly fulfilling and replayable story. This seems to be something many of these naysayer "reviewers" lack and thusly pan a good game as broken and unplayable.

Is it worth the money? For me, yes. I am willing to give the game the benefit of the doubt. For everybody else, the only thing these bad reviews are doing well is putting an excellent game in the bargain bin within six months. I just couldn't wait that long. :)

The entire game itself, the components is very good... all put together however if feels like one of those insane American burgers with everything. Even if you still can taste the ingredients, it becomes impossible to eat.

Simplify, simplify, simplify. Not "add more, add more, add more". The game is truly gigantic and has some wonderful moments... but just so much it loses focus.

What this game needed before release was an editor who simply struck out all the bits that don't add to the game.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game... but I would have preferred a more streamlined experience. Be able to walk more in a straight line, not have to fly hither and thither like a butterfly because of all the forced in content.

Would I recommend the game? Definitely... I just wish it had been even better in the classic style rather than the Ubisoft style of piling in more and more collectibles to keep kids attention.

At it stands, I find the game highly decent BUT not excellent or a master piece. Bioware has done worse but it also had done far better. For RPG lovers, this is the best game out right now... but of course it is also the only game out right now. I am well satisfied but as an RPG fan, I also take what I can get.

The combat is pretty fun, but becomes repetitive pretty quickly. I played as a mage and part of the problem is that I achieved high level spells very quickly so there really wasn't a whole lot of reason to strive there after.

The story is vast, if a bit disjointed. There were times when I was pretty confused as what to do, and other times I was just kind of... bored. Not much of the story really grabbed me - it's basically stop the ancient evil that wants to destroy the world.

The graphics are truly astounding and kuddos to the developers for this.

So, how do you rate a game? I think one of the primary criterion would be do you want to play it again? In truth I have very little desire to pick the game up again - even as a different character - so all, in all I give it a 6.

For technical issues, yes, there are a few. The game engine is new and still definitely needs optimization. If you're on a PC, you will absolutely need to lower some of the settings no matter how beefy your system is.. But the good news is that it still looks incredibly, even with some of the settings strategically lowered.

Dragon Age Inquisition is one of the best RPG games of this generation, it successfully blends an action oriented third person style of gameplay with traditional dungeon crawler elements and wraps it all up within an epic and emotional 40 hour adventure through the stunning universe of Thedas.

Dragon Age Inquisition is one of the best RPG games of this generation, it successfully blends an action oriented third person style of gameplay with traditional dungeon crawler elements and wraps it all up within an epic and emotional 40 hour adventure through the stunning universe of Thedas.
Here is a breakdown of all the elements of the game
    Story: 8/10
The story of the game is cliched in a "There's a bad guy out to destroy the world, we must stop him" kind of way but that can be said about Mass Effect 2 and other Bioware games alike. What's important is the execution as you will quickly forget that the story is cliched because the story is told with so much charm and pizazz (mostly because of the characters) that you can't help but feel epic as you gather your band of merry misfits to save the world from a demon invasion.
    Characters: 8/10
The characters in a Bioware game are like the woodwork structuring within a house, they hold it up and carry the game. In this game the characters for the most part are well written and most importantly unique. Each character has his or her own agenda and a personality, they are all very fleshed-out from their appearance to their history you'll want to believe they're real.
Several characters however you'll find are kind of stereotypical and just bland but then there are those that are wacky and fun, exciting and full of personality. You'll know which ones when you see them.
    Look/Feel: 9/10
The graphics run on the Frostbite Engine which also powers the Battlefield games. This makes the game look absolutely gorgeous and it really shines through in the character detail and in the environment. The landscapes in this game are all breathtakingly beautiful in their own way as you traverse through bogs, deserts, forests, snowy mountains, rocky plains and stormy coasts.
    Controls: 9/10
Playing a PC port is always going to be a bit wonky but it's really not so hard to get use to. You'll be using your mouse to interact with objects but using your keyboard to control both your character and the camera which can be awkward at first but unless you have the coordination of a blind bat you'll get used to it too.
    Combat: 9/10
There seems to be alot of controversy over the combat system. So yes, the combat mixes both action and tactical elements, you can either sit in third person or go pause the game and go birds eye so you can issue commands to all your team mates and take a more strategic approach.
Personally I liked this, being able to be close up with the action as I hack and slash as well as being able to take a step back and think strategically about the best course of action against an enemy.
Your abilities are all satisfying to use and combat itself is smooth and fun, I definitely suggest that you constantly switch between all your party members as this will keep every battle interesting.
The only downside is the tactical camera as you will have to adjust and fiddle with it when you're indoors.
    Gameplay: 9/10
You'll be spending most of the game trying to gain power and influence for your empire which can be attained in a number of ways. From the war table in which you play the role of a king/queen issuing orders to your spies, soldiers and your diplomats. You will also of course attain power and influence yourself by completing quests for people, which gives meaning to what would otherwise be 'filler' quests.
    AI: 7/10
This mostly applies for the way your companions follow you around. Your companions are sometimes quite stupid, especially during fights as there's been times where my warrior is in the front lines fighting 1 v 5 and my other warrior is staring at a rock.
Issuing commands in tactical mode can also sometimes not work and may require multiple attempts which can be frustrating. But is cases like that just take control of that character and do it yourself which is all the more rewarding than watching a computer do it.
Your companions follow you around just fine, its kind of funny actually seeing them all flock towards you whenever you take a step. You won't ever have to worry about them getting 'lost' like in Skyrim because they will drop out of the sky and teleport to you whenever they can't directly follow you somewhere. Which takes away immersion but at least you won't ever have to look back to make sure your archer is not spazzing out as he gets stuck between two boulders.
    Sound: 10/10
The voice acting is phenomenal and really brings each character to life and makes their personality all the more believable.
The way every ability sounds make them so satisfying to use. E.g. when you shield bash, an energetic and thunderous cracking sound plays making you feel powerful as you knock your enemy to the ground.
The sound track adds a whole new dimension of emotion to the game especially during the cut scenes, the theme "The Dawn Will Come" is a sombre tune that sends chills down your spine as it is mournful yet inspiring at the same time.

I was somewhat sceptical as the pre -release footage indicated to me that BIoware took more from DA 2 than they did from Origins (including the questionable art style). That being said, this is a far, far better game than DA 2, and does not deserve the number of zero scores it is getting here.

I am playing on PC and yes, it is glitchy and crash prone (Sandybridge i7 2600K, 8 gig of RAM and 4GB Nvidia 680 playing at 2560x1440) - though I am playing it with an xbox controller so cannot comment on the KB/M controls. Yet, despite that I would still give it an 8/10 (I am only raising that to 10 to counter the number of unfair zero's it has been getting. The game is fin, has epic scope and lots to do. I do not find it a single player MMO as some have suggested - it is no Kingdom's of Amalur for me, as the story and characters draw you in and keep me interested in the world (something that KOA singularly failed to do).

First of all, I would advise not to pay attention to any review that gives this game a score lower than 5 or higher than 8-9. In my opinion, it was a decent game, but not a masterpiece.

    CONS
    - The tactical camera is not half as good as in the previous games. It does not provide a good perspective of the battlefield and gets stuck on terrain elements. When fighting indoors, it does not work as it should, as it doesn't allow you to have an aerial sight of the combat.
    - You can neither select your whole group, nor click on the place you wanted to go to. If you want to collect items or loot, you have to move close to them since you can't click on them and see your character move towards it to do it (I found this incredibly annoying).
    - Some passive skills make little or no sense since the benefits they provide are very circumstantial. Activated skills only have one upgrade (they generally had two in DA II).
    - Certain skill builds allow your party to become nearly invulnerable (I admit it requires careful planning, but it is something that I consider that should never happen). Plus, the enormous amount of healing potions provided during that main quests makes them barely challenging.
    - Tactics are so simplified that the margin for customization is almost nonexistent (I am glad I never use them).
    - Combat mechanics are totally different for your party and for the enemies. Enemy mages only cast runes and barriers. Enemy warriors only use bull rush or whirlwind. Enemy rogues only use stealth or full draw. To compensate this lack of skill variety, they are given a ridiculous amount of health points. Their AI apparently doesn't allow them to see beyond the room they are in.
    - Side quests (and most war table operations) have no impact on the epilogue (not even the most relevant ones). Many of them are based on collecting a large amount of scattered objects.
    - I also missed gifts for companions. Not indispensable, but it would have been interesting.
    - The "no healing spells" thing would have been great... if you couldn't quick travel anytime to get more free potions. Quick travel should have been limited to travelling between camps/settlements in order for that idea to work properly.

    PROS
    - The story is pretty good. More interesting and well written than most people would admit. Presents you with some hard/ambiguous choices.
    - Companions are well written and developed. They personalities are complex and appealing. They have a fair amount of dialogue.
    - The maps are beautiful and huge. Wherever you go, there is always something interesting there.
    - You need not visit all areas in order to complete the game. This means that some maps are entirely dedicated to secondary quests (some of them are hard to find).
    - Some side quests are quite interesting. Puzzles are also well done.
    - It has an epilogue with many different endings. Though it is not as good as Origin's one (which reflected many more choices), it is pretty decent.
    - You can see the effect of some of your actions. When you complete certain quests, the areas or the enemies present in them, change. Companions and advisors comment on your progress or decisions.
    - Dialogue is better than in DA II, both in quantity and quality. You are told when your companions like what you say, but there isn't an approval bar (something that I consider good).
    - There are skill combos. And the game doesn't tell you how to make them (I think this is good as well). Focus-powered skills are also interesting.
    - I liked the "click to search" idea. It is something new that makes harder to miss important quest-related items, while adding the feeling that you are truly looking for something.
    - The new potion-making/upgrading system is, in my opinion, the best of the series. The limited amount of potions is also a great idea.

It also adds lots of persistent-world gameplay, where you feel like the world evolves based on your decisions (spend time exploring the whole map and establishing camps? Of course!). The great dialog and interesting characters are Bioware's most consistent deliverable, and DA:I continues that tradition. The graphics are great, a real generational leap over previous DA games, so please ignore the obnoxious comments to the contrary.

On the other hand, the UI is pretty consolitis-infected. DA:O UI was so much better in that regard, where equipping and leveling up was quick and easy. DA:I's UI is a usability nightmare, where every screen has a tiny number of options, and you are constantly scrolling through because you only see 4 lines of text on screen at once. Camera control and movement is another area of missed opportunity (no click to move, WTF?). It means I want to spend as little time in the character menus etc. as possible, only jumping in when I absolutely have to.

It probably deserves to be called RPG of the year, despite the modest flaws.

It is not DA origins and if you want it to be- you'll be upset. It's not a 'stat based' rpg, it's not.. a lot of things.. it's... Modern, and by god is it amazing!

There are a dozen things I could complain about, the odd glitch here & there.. leveling up too easy (that's my fault- I'm a completionist) and the god awful melee system D: (I play as a sword & board warrior) It really does bother me that I can't click someone and have my guy run over & attack, you have to run up to the enemy and click (or hold R)..I get the purpose, and it does make you feel a bit more immersed..until you find yourself swinging your sword right in someone's face & barely missing them:P.

    Anyways-

It really is the little things in this game that set it apart- for example you can dynamically acquire "agents" throughout the game, find someone that could be an asset to you? Recruit them. It happens in such a fluid-immersion way that I am always really excited about it!

The graphics! The people look about the same buy ooooooh the scenery- just hit the western approach and HOLY SH** some beautiful shots there!! And the first time I went into the deep roads? Almost shat.

My first dragon encounter..just randomly mopping up a map & BAM epic. The dragons fly around and smash boulders & the environment in general- shoot fireballs at you and such. The actual battle is very reminiscent of an MMO boss battle..& It's awesome!

Crafting! I wish the normal schematics were all in shops and rares were drops.. but besides that.. LOVE THE DEATH out of the crafting!! You get schematics for an item and then get to pick the materials which in-turn decide the color scheme, there are several varieties of metals per tier so you do not have to go with a weird color just because it is better- you get to pick what suits you:) that with the idea of weaponarmor upgrades customizing the looks of the item, it really works out beautifully!! I cannot praise the crafting system enough for it's creativity & loveliness :D.. I'll admit it is a bit "barebones" or "rigid" overall but somehow it is freakin' perfect.

But wait..there's more.. you get a stronghold that you can (kind of) customize, pick the bannerswindows THRONE.. that's right, the throne..which you sit upon and judge people (Fable 3 style) COULD THIS **** GET ANY MORE EPIC? Yes. It does-

There are mounts, Horses, these weird elk type things, some weird demon horse things & "exotic" mounts.. I have so far only used the Horses, but they are beautiful and feel very real & add nothing but immersion and accessibility. & the fact that there is such a wide variety of horses- it is all just wonderful.

I CANNOT WAIT FOR AN EXPANSION DLC! WHY CAN'T I UPGRADE TO DIGITAL DELUXE FROM RETAIL? LET ME THROW MY MONEY AT YOU!!!!

I love the conversations you have with characters, and I love the cheesy romance stuff you can do. That said... I took off a point because tactical combat is cumbersome compared to Origins. You have to click with both mouse buttons to go around the battle field, and you can't zoom out enough. I have to switch to the other mode in order to close most fade rifts, because they are just too high in the sky to get while in tactical mode. Expand

You can tell it is somewhat simplified to accommodate the consoles. But nevertheless it isn't something that is game breaking, just gets a little bit to get use to. Some of the combat feels clunky especially if you're playing a two-handed weapon warrior. I must admit the world map and minimap pretty much suck. Hopefully mods will work for this game.

The graphics performance is also somewhat of an issue as well. My PC can run a lot of new games pretty well but for whatever reason it kind of struggles in certain areas in the game especially outdoors. Bioware has said the upcoming first patch will address performance issues but I guess we will see whenever it gets released.

The good: The graphics are stunning, my rig is running on a 680 and the game looks good while running very smoothly even in intense combat. The combat is satisfying; going into the game I was concerned when I heard that there was only going to be a very select few healing abilities and limited healing potions, but Bioware did a good job of balancing the combat so that you shouldn't feel limited by them even on hard mode as long as you use your head. In fact because the game is no longer balanced around healing mages I feel like I have more options for selecting my party's setup. The new guard mechanic makes playing as a sword and shield warrior much more enjoyable and planning cross class combos is much more satisfying now. Overall I have no complaints about the mouse keyboard controls, and I usually play on a console (though the tactical camera definetly needs some work). The various zones are varied and vast, completionists will be able to easily spend over 6 hours in the starting area alone doing all the side quests and finding all the secrets, while you'll level up fast enough that people who want to go faster won't feel like the game is forcing them to grind for Xp. The companions are all varied and have interesting personalities, and since you don't have an approval bar you feel less pressure to choose the dialogue choices that you think they'll agree with. I haven't gotten far enough into the story to tell you too much about it, but the first part (getting to your groups main base) was very epic.

The downs: While having a wide variety of stuff to do in the areas is better than not having enough, it does mean you'll end up pretty distracted from the game's main plot and feel detached from it. The tactical camera has a lot of flaws: it is far too zoomed in and has no way of adjusting how far it zooms out, and don't even bother trying to use it if you're in a cave or a place with a low roof. Mounts aren't really that useful and since there's no party banter while you're using one it takes a lot out of the game (though the lack of fall damage and Skyrimesque horse physics is super useful at times).

This next point is a big one, but you'll either love it or hate it. You can only have 8 abilites accesible at any given time (unlike in the first two where you could pull up a radial menu that had the rest of them that weren't hot-keyed). On one hand it ensures that at higher levels you can't have grossly overpowered characters that can do anything and don't need to rely on teamwork. On the other hand you may find it as an excessive restriction that limits your play style.

All in all, I love the game. I've already plugged in 15 hours and don't even feel close to being done with it, if you like the genre I would highly recommend it.

I never write reviews, and this one will be very brief, but I had to offer an opinion in light of all the haters hating. First, no game is the game for everyone. To summarize the difference, while I greatly enjoyed DA:O, it seems like it was on rails compared to DA:I. DA:I at first seemed overwhelmingly large. Now, I am enjoying taking chunks out of it, knowing that it portends a long journey through beautiful vistas, battling varied foes, with far more sophisticated story branches and AI/companion relationships.

I have had some occasional frame rate and loading time frustration, but I understand the context of my three year old gaming laptop (pretty good at the time, with an Nvidia 675MX). But I can adjust my settings, and now have a smooth experience. The models, the motion - all top notch.

The new combat interface takes some getting used to, as it is more complex than DA:O. But, the combat is much more fluid. Among other subtle but noticeable advances, whereas I have often been frustrated with AI path finding, my companions are much more rational and effective in DA:I.

I cannot say a great deal, because at about 15 hours in, I have clearly just scratched the surface. Which I love.

The score is one of the best of any game I've played.

The open world is gorgeous, staggeringly beautiful.

The combat is my only negative, even on hard and expert it's kind of meh. The game is also generally too easy.

The story is great - the main villain is a bit meh, which is a shame (he is no kefka), but the side quests have some great minor villains, the character development in your companions, the potential romance, etc. is all done exceedingly well. Is it as well written as a novel? Absolutely not. But it's well written enough - particularly when you consider the sheer amount of content.

Further, the game changes in really meaningful ways depending on your decisions. At 100 hours in my first playthrough and having spent about 30 in my second making different decisions causes entirely different cutscenes to occur. Like radically. The sheer breadth of the decision trees is mind blowing - you can end up with very different outcomes. It's really staggering.

I never, ever replay games. I binge on a game, beat it once, and move on. The only exception was the Dark Souls series. This is the first time since that that I've wanted to replay a game.

Companions: Was my only problem, many of them were forgettable and I could care less about. Some felt like they were added into the story just because of convenience through side quests and then had no real impact to the main story line.

I don't care much for Skyrim because the story is so weak, so this is definitely a step up. However, there is not as much main plot as there was (or at least appeared to be) in DA Origins.

Nonetheless, I'm 30+ hours in and really enjoying it. It looks beautiful on High and Ultra settings, but does start to look plastic and shiny on medium or lower settings. I actually went out and bought a new machine to play it on Ultra.

The main story is compelling and I like the idea of being able to control agents and work on missions across the world. But those who complain of too many side quests are not wrong: there are a ton! Some are cool, many are trivial. There are lots of crafting "ingredients" to gather, and you have flexibility in the kinds of weapons and armor you want to make.

Another feature that I really like is the Dragon Keep website, where you can select virtually all the major decisions of the previous games in order to "export" your Dragon Age world as you start your Inquisition experience.

On the downside, there are some mechanics that are not explained. For example, I no longer have attribute points to modify strength, intelligence, and other traits. Or if I do, I have no idea how to do that. It appears that modifications to attributes occur only through weapons, armor, and your selection of abilities. But given that the first two games had attribute points, it seems weird not to have it in this game--especially without explanation.

And I agree with those who bemoan the loss of auto-attack. It would be nice if at least a player could choose auto-attack versus manual. Some people surely enjoy the action game-feel, but on PC, having to hit "R" over and over for basic attacks is a pain.

And the tactical camera is sometimes tough to maneuver. A few times I've tried to close a rift over my head only to have a heck of a time getting close enough to it so that I can close it while also angling the camera up so I can see it. It's especially difficult if there are demons beating on my character.

Gamers are passionate people and many have become passionate recently (due, at least in part, to the infamous Mass Effect 3 ending) about trashing Bioware and EA, but games are even harder to make than epic movies. There are so many variables and things that can go wrong. I don't know how much playtesting or focus group testing Bioware does--maybe they should do more--but I wish the people giving this game a 1 or 2 rating would take a deep breath and try to find some perspective. The worst that Bioware is guilty of here, I think, is trying too hard to please too many people. They wanted to satisfy those who love the open aspect of a Skyrim but want the great story of a DA Origins. They're trying to do both and may wind up falling short on both counts. But even so, the game is fun and enjoyable.

As I wrote at the start, a only about halfway into the game (or less, as I am a bit of a completionist), but I am very happy I bought this game.

It has a couple of plot holes holding it back and there are a few elements that didn't feel very well fleshed out. As a fan of the world I give it a 9 but an 8 seems right for most people who just play the games.

Visuals----10: You will see Thedas as you have never seen it before. This game is visually impressive and artistically genius. The characters, the scenery, the special effects; when dialed all the way up, this game is simply breathtaking. The cut scenes are as good as any Bioware has ever done. They stutter due to being capped at 30fps but there is a fix for it (use google). Despite this stutter (and poor decision to cap the scenes at 30fps by Bioware) the quality and beauty of the game world are so good that I could not give this less than 10.

Sound----10: Though the music is quite dull, it is extremely effective at its goal of creating ambiance. And I think that is what matters most. The voice acting however, is some of the best I've ever heard. As an actor myself, I am impressed with the range and quality of the voice actors.

Game Design----9: I know a lot of people complain about the quality of the controls on the PC. Personally I use an Xbox controller and have been extremely satisfied with the controls. The camera can be clunky at times and I ran into a couple of minor bugs. But I have not had any of the problems others have reported. Maybe I'm just lucky I don't know. Inquisition is also a massive game, easily larger than Skyrim. As much as I love Skyrim, the quality and quantity of Inquisition's content is unmatched.

Fun factor----9: DAI can be a bit repetitive, especially if you are playing as a warrior. But at higher difficulties you really have to make the most of the tactical overview. Even though the tactics at your disposal are somewhat limited early on, later on in the game they really open up, creating a feeling very much akin to Origins. You can play this game for hundreds of hours and not be bored.

Overall---10: I am on my second play through right now, and I am continually impressed by Inquisition. I don't understand what most of the negative reviewers are talking about at all. I did not follow the game's development very closely. And I think the game may be a victim of hype. If you are a fan of RPGs this game is a must buy. If you rated it a zero no game could ever meet your expectations and you should just stop playing video games entirely.

I for one am loving Inquisition thus far, at about 20 hours in I can tell the story is going to keep me engaged for a very long time. Graphically and stylistically the game is extremely impressive, and thankfully it scales very well to my aging rig. I'm currently playing with a 360 controller to circumvent some of the early control hiccups, and having a blast with combat that way. Indeed I can't say that the game is a 10/10 throughout, but I'm certain I will settle no lower than 8 for any reason. As such, I am rating a 10 in the hopes that it will mitigate some of the unbridled nerd rage slamming the game. One could swear that people love complaining even more than they do an excellent game. I for one intend to enjoy the ride rather than let a couple bumps in the road shatter my world. Expand

I currently have 45 hours played on this and get the feeling that I'm half way through the main story. There's so much to do in this game! The game runs flawlessly on my computer and I haven't crashed at all or seen any bugs.

The areas and landscape vistas are beautiful and the story is good. I can only recommend this game. It will keep you entertained for a very long time over christmas!

Honestly... the only thing that is bad about it is the controls and UI elements.

You have to hold down a button to autoattack, custom AI configuration is pretty limited, game doesn't support all the extra mouse buttons. Menus are not great, its a bad mix of DAO and DA2. Other than that, the world is freaking gigantic...6 hours in one map and I'm not even 20% done completing it. So

Other than that, the world is freaking gigantic...6 hours in one map and I'm not even 20% done completing it. So many quests...and if you really feel adventurous, you will face challenges WAY above your level. Fortunately, this is where the strategy shines.

I'm playing on the hardest difficulty, so I'm enjoying the challenge. It's definetely an improvement from DA2 world wise, but DA2 probably had the best overall combat mechanics (while DAO had the best variety). It's really not as bad and disappointing as people are crying about.

There is a bunch of heavy role-play elements in the game, like you have to gather materials to craft and "upgrade". However, there is plenty of loot to be found and used that are just as good as an upgrade while traveling.

If they can address the sub-par work on the menus and fix the controls...this will be great. There is plenty to do and the game isn't just a speedrun to the finish. You will enjoy the game if you take the time to explore everything it has to offer.

Sad to see most negative reviews are because they just refused to adapt or have a terrible PC to play this game on. This game is extremely optimized for cards from 2013+. Get with the times.
This is definitely a game that improves on a lot... to be fair, the controls and UI is the weakest part but its tolerable. You're not going to lose anything by learning/adapting to the controls. Look past that and you got a great game.

24+ hours in already at this date and its still way as enjoyable as DAO plus almost everything that made DA2 great. Sorry if you're casual and can't keep up...maybe League of Casuals will suit you negative Nancys'.

Let me start off by saying, I'm a HUGE dragon age fan. I put in 200hrs of gameplay on origins on xbox 360. Over 300hrs of gameplay on origins on the pc ultimate edition. Hundreds of hours on DA2 both console and pc.

Dragon age origins strong points - Character depth, tactics, story telling Dragon Age 2 strong points - Faster paced action which was very appealing (don't deny it)

Dragon Age 2 strong points - Faster paced action which was very appealing (don't deny it)

Now we have Dragon Age inqusition! A mesh of the best things DA:O and DA2 brought to the table AND MORE.

Huge open world with absolutely gorgeous graphics that please your very pupils. Fast paced action from DA2 with the best tactics DA:O had to offer. Amazing voice acting and story telling. Music score is breathtaking! Lore! Lore everywhere! Pieces of parchment, notes, books, signs, scribings! If you love spending time reading through all the lore a game has to offer, you're definitely in for a treat! I've played all of 2014's AAA games and other titles. This is a serious Game of the year contender for me!

I seriously am amazed to see as many negative reviews as there are positives. I spent time going through these and want to absolutely squash myths and bulls**t info people are posting.

1- Controlls on pc aren't terrible! They're just as they were on DA:O and DA2. This game has added features! Perhaps those giving negative reviews due to the controls just have severe dyslexia and can't learn new commands! This is the most annoying negative view point I've seen. I've now played with both board/mouse and xbone gamepad. Both are amazing. My preference is the XBONE controller. Absolutely hit the nail on the head here. By far the SMOOTHEST controls to date on an RPG. Top notch quality! The mouse/board is also great, I just enjoy the faster paced action more with a gamepad but can comfortable give both a 10/10

2- Stuttering. Yes the game stuttered for me in cut scenes and every now and then during gameplay. I'm running sli GTX 970's with other top end gear and playing on max settings. Rather then throwing a tantrum like most (if not all) negative reviewers have...I looked at my experiences with other games. TURN OFF ORIGIN IN GAME. Also, google the 30fps cutscene fix and apply that! No more stutters. Buttery smooth on max settings. Brilliant! If you still don't have smoothness, turn your settings down or upgrade your hardware if you can't live without playing on max settings. It's end of 2014! sorry...your GTX 780 isn't going to cut it ladies and gents.

3-Voice acting, score and story telling. I read a review which absolutely tore bits in the voice acting, music score and story telling. Son...you are a fool. The voice acting is top notch, the music in game is absolute brilliance and the story is just as compelling as DA:O!

4- Not open world? Uhmm....no words needed. Rest assured, this is open world gameplay

5- No tactics? What...no tactics? Tactics everywhere! Perhaps you should turn up your difficulty from easy and play with the big boys! I see people crying saying they ruined DAO's tactical brilliance. INCORRECT! They've taken it and made it better! How can you diss this flawless tactical screen? Seriously?!?! Pure brilliance! And there still is some level of auto tactics you can set for your companions. Is it as in depth as DAO? No. Why? well simple! YOU HAVE THE GODAMN TACTICAL SCREEN! THAT’S WHAT IT IS THERE FOR. SAME THING AS AUTO TACTICS IN DAO BUT NOW YOU GET TO SEE IT IN THE FLESH, MODIFY IT FOR EVERY SCENARIO AND WATCH IT PLAY OUT IN REAL TIME OR SLOW MO! Open your eyes people!

6- UI and menus. What’s wrong with them? They are crisp, clear easy to use and a mixture of both DAO and DA2 with their own personal added recipe to make this 2014 AAA highly anticipated game achieve greater heights then their predecessors.

This game is a solid 10/10. Does it have bugs? Yes it does. Do I care? No. It’s in it’s first week of release and there are no game breaking bugs for the majority of people. Corrupt files and gender changes? These sorts of bugs are existent in many games on release! They don’t affect everyone! By the way, how can you rip a company for releasing a game as massive as Dragon Age inquisition with some bugs? Yes….there will be bugs! Why wouldn’t there be? They’ve only just released a next gen game 100x larger and more complex then Dragon age origins and in the same time frame! They’re still ONLY HUMAN. The human race has not evolved.. and I’m sure IQ levels were the same as they were back in 2009 when DA:O was released!

Now, commence the “how much has Bioware paid him” rant.

This game is a must have for 2014. Make sure your hardware can handle it and happy playing!

I'm honestly ashamed of some of the user reviews I'm seeing on this sight. unless I somehow bought a vastly different game than some of you, I have no idea what you're talking about.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is a marvel. It is fun to play, mouthwateringly deep, and incredibly well-written. Bioware is officially back on their A game. I'm about 10 hours in at this point, and I was actually brought to tears last night finishing up a quest. The writing twists and characters are ON POINT. Honestly, if you're a fan of really amazing RPGs, do yourself a favor and give it a try. Don't take the word of all these haters.

A notable caveat of my super enjoyable experience is that I'm playing on ps4. I've heard the game can be buggy for PC users, and I really hope they get around to fixing that for PC players. I haven't experienced any bugginess, and I think the ps4 controls work beautifully. Just saying that you might want to think about which platform works best for you before defaulting to PC.

Just registered to counter those zero points reviews. They are utterly laughable. A game which is obviously one of the best RPG:s at the decade, perhaps all time, gets slammed for small details like "no autoattack" (anyone who has actually played for a few hours understands how pointless an autoattack would be). Of course not everyone will like this game. It isn't for everyone, as itJust registered to counter those zero points reviews. They are utterly laughable. Of course not everyone will like this game. It isn't for everyone, as it hasn't got a nearly linear story like Origins and you just can't complete it in a couple of evenings. There are no shortcuts. Still even if it isn't your type of game, you should keep some objectivity. Expand

Very nice RPG, they've made several improvements to the game since Dragon Age Origin (never played the second game). The combat system took a while to get use to, but is fun when you figure it out. It's not RPG of the year material, but a nice change for the Dragon Age series.

Despite numerous shortcomings, the new BioWare project is undoubtedly worth your attention. One of the best RPGs of 2014.
