I won't compare this to Dragon Age 2 because that pales into comparison with Dragon Age: inquisition. That said, DA:I is better than Dragon Age: Origins in more ways than one. More importantly, the gameplay is dynamic.

I personally much prefer a real-time battle than the tactical (paused) battles and it certainly does make the fights exciting (and crazy frantic at times i.e. Descent DLC) and fun. DA:I has this in spades, and battles always feel fun and fresh. Especially when going for the Elder Dragons when you've levelled up enough!

There's a good choice of companion characters you can choose, and there are many to choose from, of different specialisations. I like the idea that ALL characters level up concurrently, so you can choose to swap characters ANY time in the game - therefore, allowing you to try different characters and their powers WITHOUT having to restart in order to play other characters. Overall this game is well built to allow you to play through once THOROUGHLY (easily 100+ hours of content), and with different characters as and when you wish. And closing those Fade rifts and getting rid of demons never gets tired.

If I have to gripe at something, then perhaps sometimes the control scheme is a bit wonky. For example, when trying to close Fade Rifts, I sometimes can't see my cursor clearly, plus the chaos of battle doesn't really help. But that's such a minor gripe.

This is a near perfect RPG experience, and to me, even better than Skyrim, which I've also spent 100+ hours on. I can't wait for Dragon Age 4 - if they can improve on it further!

VERDICT: To me, this game feels like an insult for the RPG genre and DA:O, and is unworthy of the Bioware RPG-legacy. REVIEW: I feel that from DA:O, the series is going downwards, which urged me to write my opinion. First the good points:
    * Story is OK in the sense that it keeps you interested. At least me as a somewhat fan. But most narrative is just mediocre, while some narratives like the Corypheus encounter in Haven, are small masterpieces.
    * Voice casting is good. Cassandra and Varric are convincing. Dorian also. Well done!
    * Visuals are good, although based on quantity instead of quality. Dragons are very well done.
But now the very bad stuff. Where to begin??
    * Quantity over quality. Not everything one makes should end up in the final release. Not so in DA:I. It seems as if they committed themselves putting every bit they made. Was there any quality testing during development?
    * The tactical camera is a mess. In 50% of the cases, the first thing you do in tactical view, is try to get the camera right because either some tree is in the way, or you see the feet of someone, or whatever other glitch. 50% of the time!!!
    * Combat system. The tactical system in DA:O had such potential to mix action with strategy. The best DA:O mod: "Advanced Tactics" proves its potential. In DA:2 they striped it down, and in DA:I removed it completely. The companion controls are on par with Fallout 1, and that was 20 years ago! What remains is brainless AI combat that is artificially prolonged with massive health of the enemies. I wasted a few hours to take down Saraath, who had 500 times more health than my tank. That was the worst case. On average they have 50 times more health, and it mostly revolves around waiting for the adversaries to fall. And this is on the highest difficulty. I can't ask it more politely than: Which idiot made this combat system?
    * Intrinsic timewasters. You wander around and suddenly your companions say "there must be something here". So what do you do? You search! It could be something important! And you find a bottle of wine?!? Time and time again. The game is littered with such crap. Now, you could say: don't bother. But it could as well be something hidden that is important to the story line. And that is not all. There is astro- and shardcrap that literately litters your map so it is hard to discern which is important and which not. The maps are huge but are stuffed full with stuff at most nonsensical places, in every bloody corner, bringing nothing to the story apart from prolonging it artificially. Then there are these requisitions that burn your resources (that you have to gather manually!) in exchange for power and which apparently have no other use. Took me a while to figure out that quests offer more than enough power, and gathering resources is a time-wasting chore. At least they could have placed a button for your companions to gather resources in a 20m radius.
    * NPC interaction. This is an RPG, but no-one seems to care whether you loot his dear box in front of him. WTF?!? Doing odd stuff to progress the story, like climbing a wall during a gala-ball, is very normal...
    * Companions like Sera or Iron Bull: Hardly convincing for even a 10-year old. And Cole: good try, but if something doesn't work out well, then you remove it from the final release!
    * War room. By far most of the side missions don't add much to the story. The inquisition soldiers could have done these errands as well. But no, the player is supposed to take on every uninspired errand, to satisfy an NPC who doesn't even influence anything thereafter.
    * Controls: from the first moment it is obvious that this game was polished for the consoles, and not much time was spent to adapt it to the PC. Using the mouse just seems awkward.
    * User friendliness. If there was ever some beta-testing and feedback, then surely a conversation log would be top-priority for every self-respecting RPG. Also, the load screens show random Codex lore, which occasionally is a great read, but you should have time to read it! Deus Ex:HR solves this with letting the player enter the level with space-bar when done reading.
    * Aftermath: this should be based on the main story and the decisions you have taken. The fact that in my play-through I didn't save the miners of Orzammar has little to do with the main story or my evil predispositions, but everything with me refusing to waste another +20 hours on some side-quest.

As usual Bioware has good plot and character writing, and from what I've seen I think they hit a sweet spot between introducing new characters and using characters from previous games. As tends to be the case, some characters were very interesting and loveable, while others were frankly annoying or kinda boring, but that could just be a matter of taste. I did feel that it fell a little flat though trying to balance the main character between the very open approach of Origins and the extremely restrictive approach of DA:II--you can choose the race, sex, appearance, and voice of your character, but it doesn't affect the story (even the intro sequence, as in Origins) in any significant way, and your character's background story is never developed and is pretty much irrelevant to the story. I very much liked the vast open-world approach, with its many different environments and visual themes, especially after DA:II forced us to play in the most confined, dull, copy-pasted environments ever. I also liked the introduction of armor/weapon crafting, which is great for players who like to tinker with that sort of thing and maximize their stats, while still being entirely optional, for players who don't want to bother. Likewise I enjoyed the customizable base, but felt that Bioware was pretty arbitrary with what it allowed you to customize: for example, you have over a dozen choices for curtains, window glass, beds, etc. but you cannot customize your casual attire, which is boring as hell, nor can you ever actually finish repairs on the castle--even once you're the most powerful person in the realm, apparently you can't get someone to fix holes in the wall or clean up debris completely. My major complaint for the game, and one that really bothered me throughout the game was the big changes to battle mechanics, UI & controls, and character's skills/attributes/tactics. First, unlike previous games you don't have an auto-attack, so you must hold down a button to continue to attack, which can make other tasks (like selecting enemies) difficult. You also must manually maneuver from enemy to enemy, and you can't 'lock on' to enemies as in previous games, so its often difficult to make sure you're attacking the right enemy, and if you're a melee fighter, positioning correctly can be a huge pain. There are also many changes to battle mechanics, such as the absence of healing spells and the introduction of barriers and guard for defense, lack of sustained abilities, non-regenerating health, etc. Most of these aren't necessarily bad, but they do take some getting used to. Second, and worst of all, is the UI, which was clearly designed with consoles, not PCs, in mind. The quest tracker blocks a significant portion of the screen, which is especially annoying given the huge beautiful environments. The action bar is limited to only 8 ability slots, which is incredibly frustrating as you will end up learning plenty of abilities that you won't be able to actually use, since they're not on the bar. Moreover, your companions can likewise only use abilities on their action bars, so they too are very restricted on what they can do. The tactical overhead view, which was a very helpful part of Origins and even DA:II is practically useless in this game: the camera is awful and companions don't like to actually do what they're told, and with so few abilities to choose from, your tactical options are very limited anyways. Lastly, the ability/attribute system is somewhat different than previous games, and not for the better in my opinion. Much like DA:II your skills are organized intro various 'trees' (more like webs) of talents, but unlike DA:II here some are for new abilities that you can use, while some are just stat increases (e.g. +1 to cunning, +25% armor penetration). Ultimately you'll end up choosing abilities that you won't ever use (because of the action bar limit) just to get to a stat increase. This is also due to the fact that, unlike previous games, you don't get additional attribute points when you level up to spend as you like, but only through spending your 1 point per level on the ability tree, or through gear. I was rather unhappy about this, especially before I had the means to make whatever gear I wanted, because it meant that my character was effectively only able to increase 2 stats. As a rogue, I got cunning and dexterity bonuses from the skill tree, but I had no option to put points into say constitution, so that I wouldn't be so squishy in melee. To me this seems like an unnecessary restriction of player choice & customization in an RPG. In the end, I would recommend this game, and I'm sure players new to the franchise would not feel many of the same frustrations that I did, but Inquisitions falls short of being truly spectacular due to some of these flaws. Well DA:I is even worse, this is World of Warcraft in Dragon Age. Keep in mind how badly 2010's MMO games are going to age as time goes on. First boss fight, fight a giant ogre by clicking on some energy thingy, let your companions do the rest, no strategy needed. Boom! You win the boss fight and now you're the savior. BUT - now you have to play fetch quest and errand boy. This kind of pacing is a plague among the EAs and Ubisofts, they've totally forgot RPG pacing and the Hero's Journey.

But you see, this game isn't really about you. No. IT'S ABOUT CASSANDRA. See? This is what it's all about. You're just Cassandra's puppet. It's really all about her and Leliana telling all the weak men off and showing them that in modern day, it's the women who make the rules and the men who follow them.

Mechanically, the game is terribly clunky. Gone are the days of the simple yet complex, classic tactical gameplay from the likes of Isometrics like Baldur's Gate and DA:O. Nope. The "Tactical view" makes no sense in this game, moving your character around is a CHORE, the interface is wholley unintuitive. Gameplay is further dumbed down, now you are automatically assigned stat points, leveling up boils down to you picking a few abilities here and there. That's it! Whoop de doo.

The only thing good about this game is the sound design. That is all.

Some of the quests are very good and inventive, but about third of them is a MMO trash. Or even mobile free to play trash. If you are a completionist, this can break your enjoyment.

Another thing to note are the long loading times. You really should have SSD hard drive.

So to sum it up. If you own a gamepad, have an SSD and are fine with the fact that it is mostly an action game, it is a pretty solid 7. If they cut third of the game and made the combat a little better it could have easily been 8,5.

The story's framework is given quickly, but then you are spun around and pointed out into expanse with only your sense of adventure to guide you. The designers were smart enough to give you anchor points you can always return to, and must for aspects of the game, but otherwise your darkened map is only filled in by where you decide to go. The main line of quests would be a healthy game in themselves but its the cornucopia of discoveries you make while merely getting your bearings in Dragon Age: Inquisition, that lead to dozens, and possibly more than a hundred hours, of side quests, treasure hunts, and random encounters.

If you liked the previous Dragon Age games (or at least the first in the series), you will enjoy "Inquisition". Its bigger, bolder, and technically superior while still telling a compelling narrative. It has memorable characters, both friend and foe, while offering the highest quality of combat in a DA game, yet, and providing a plethora of loot, crafting, and relationship systems to dig in to as deep or shallow as you like.

DA:I is not a 6 hour linear shooter and the lack of an obvious path may leave those not familiar with this type of game, feeling rudderless. I urge you to fight past the first few hours of loose footing. There is a method to the madness and it can become immersive once you build a connection to the world.

DA:I is open world fantasy at its finest. Explore how you like, craft combat in real time or strategically, and romance a strange looking creature or a cheeky dwarf..... its all about choosing what you want to do.

I hope that includes giving Dragon Age:Inquisition a chance to suck you in, if it does, its one of the most rewarding fantasy gaming experiences out there.

This could easily be due to the fact that the game was forced to conform to the hardware limitations of last gen consoles, a decision that has frustrated fans of many other games to no end. In spite of this, Dragon Age Inquisition is a fantastic RPG experience amidst the sea of disappointing titles to grace the gaming industry in 2014.

The story is one of Bioware's weaker ones, though it is leaps and bounds beyond the atrocity that was Dragon Age 2. It was generally intriguing and provided fascinating snippets of lore that excited me, as a fan of the series's backstory and world. It does well in the aspect of conveying the sense that you are the leader of a world changing organisation, however it is poorly paced. The first 15 hours of the game blaze by at a lightning fast pace, only to have the plot slow to a crawl after reaching Skyhold, and without all of the side quests and companion quests, the game is rather short, and the ending is one of the most anticlimactic endings I have seen in a game for years. Even the final assault on the Citadel Beam in Mass Effect 3 was more intense, until the last 10 minutes of that game of course. Dragon Age Inquisition ends without much resolution to many of the problems the people of Thedas have faced for centuries. All it does is provide a slideshow detailing the outcome of the Mage-Templar war, which is unsatisfying to say the least. The story does provide several stand out moments, most notable the mission where you are sent to gain the help of the Rebel Mages, as well as several others that cannot be mentioned without spoiling the game.

Despite all my criticisms of the main plot, the rest of the game is extremely well presented. The visuals look gorgeous, the new vast landscapes and environments to explore look like they've been lifted straight out of a medieval painting. Sound design and voice acting are excellent as well. The characters are humorous and well written, party banter is hilarious, especially with Dorian in the party. The numerous crafting and customization options really make you feel as though your character is truly your own, something which Dragon Age 2, and the Mass Effect series struggled to achieve. Combat is intense and frenetic, the sound of crackling spells and flying arrows coupled with brightly coloured damage numbers popping over the screen provides a satisfying combination that is both enjoyable and challenging.

Dragons are one of the major selling points of the game. Their behaviour has been completely overhauled, not longer do they feel like one of many bosses sitting at the end of a long corridor, but their dynamic movement and interaction with the environment they live in truly brings them to life, and the fights themselves outdo any attempt to portray these massive scaled creatures in any other game(Yes Skyrim, I'm looking at you).

Overall, Bioware failed to deliver on their promise of a truly dynamic world, much of the content showed off at the PAX and E3 demos were cut from the final release, presumably due to hardware limitations, which is a real shame, however what we got in the end was no less than any of their previous efforts, excluding the 100 hours of side content, we still get a 40 hour long game filled with everything that makes a Bioware RPG what it is. Despite its shortcomings, Dragon Age Inquisition gets you more than your money's worth, and is a great game.

This game has a good story and great graphics but the combat system is terrible. I find that I am hating combat because it feels more like a twitch fest cross between tetris and mortal-combat.

I guess the most helpful would be for me to put the quality of the game based on the others. It isn't as good as Dragon Age I and almost as good as Dragon Age 2.

Little Details like hidden lookouts on top of some mountain made me smile. Im one of the guys who tries to jump up every mountain, and in this game you get rewarded for it, sometimes. Only the camera in the strategical view is a pain in the ass. I consider using a mod to be able to zoom out higher. The spells feel very powerful, the lightings/thunderclaps and explosions sound cool, its fun to cast spells. The sound of the swords and armors is nice too. I like the SP and would give it a 8/10, compared to skyrim with a 9,5/10.

MP gets boring fast, the same few levels again and again. They say they are randomly generated every time, but that doesnt matter, the style is the same every time, you dont feel any difference. And there is no character customisation in MP, just trough the equipment. The given character models look ugly (in MP, in SP you can create your own). Most people use "just damage" skillsets, so you die at the Endboss if you didnt get a good tank and healer (barriercaster), sometimes there are 4 DD in a group, you can instaleave then. The Endbosses are the same every time. They dont look special or powerful or mighty, they hit very hard, and are a little bit bigger than normal enemies, nothing special. I would wish for random bosses at the end, or at least some tactics to be needed. MP is a 5/10 for me. I play it at PC, graphics at max, with a 7.1 system.

So if you can get this for about 30€ or maybe 35$, its a good choice, but i wont buy it again for ~45€.

What a great game, I really did enjoy my time with it. A very interesting story that keeps you intrigued and wanting to come back to it when you're not playing it.

Completed it in about 60 hours, with most side missions done in the first half of the game and none really touched with the second half due to being overleveled. So yes, game is a bit imbalanced in that part.

Characters are unique and very well done with great voice acting.

Economy is a fundamental part of any game in my mind and in terms of what you can buy and do with the money you acquire is astonishing, which gives you a reason to loot (and there is a lot in this game, I can say to you now, if you do not like looting I can practically guarantee this is not yur game)

I had a lot of problems with it to run in cutscenes with frequents CTD (I had to play the game in a **** graphical setup for it not to crash) and believe me it wasn't because my hardware was getting stressed, not with a i7 2600K overclocked and a GTX 780 6GB of vram. Cutscenes tended to chop and lag, but when it got to gameplay wise it was fine. So can't really comment graphics wise due to not be playing at full settings, although I can comment about the hair I know that was rubbish it looked worst than straw no matter if you run that 'thing' at max or not nothing is saving that.

Love the feeling of importance it gives you later on which I consider what it's all about in a progression based RPG.

Combat is mmo type, I was a mage (which fitted also around the story, strongly recommended) and didn't mind holding down buttons to cast spells although I can see it would maybe be worse by being a warrior/tank type.

They could of done more with the relevance of letting a character like you or not, even though you get it constantly on the bottom right of your screen e.g ''Cassandra disapproves'' , ''Vivienne slightly approves'' etc it doesn't really make any real changes to the game in any shape way or form, the only real thing it's really there for is for romancing someone, which, if you play as a heterosexual male I may add, you have a very limited number of people that'll be willing to romance you no matter if you get to their full approval or not! So major flaw there.

But apart from those issues and the most of the side missions being very dull and genreic, I really enjoyed my time with the game and I consider that it's not getting the credit it should be getting for the game it is.

I have played most game releases in 2014 and this is one of the few I've actually completed and not drifted away from in boredom or the lure of the next shiny new thing (yeah games are the squirrels of my life:). While I thoroughly enjoyed playing the game, it has a few annoying interface 'features' some the result of being designed with consoles in mind as a result the PC interface can be awkward at times. For example the tactical mode is poorly designed, add a Z axis damn you, I want to look up!. Oh and tool tips on the skill bar would be nice too. Expand

A superb game with a great cast of characters, Dragon Age Inquisition offers a fascinating world to explore with deep lore. The game offers a great deal of content to explore, some of which can be almost overwhelming if you try to do it all, but that's what subsequent play throughs are for!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bioware rightfully made the best fantasy game only beat by Skyrim. The real draw of this game is Character customization, choices, and discovery. I always love creating a female character and this game doesn't disappoint in that respect unlike Fallout 4 for example. Inquisition still has the best dialogue system and the most decisions out of modern games. So the only competition in that respect is between well, previous Bioware titles and Telltale Games. However, most choices don't have a big enough impact. No matter who you choose, Templars or Mages, you'll still have to defend Haven from the forgettable villain. I understand that part is critical to the story but Bioware has given much more weight to choices in the Mass Effect series
. But Skyhold really is a big improvement over the Normandy. The world is plenty big and the highlights visually are the houses in the Emerald Graves, the Eleven temple in the end, and the sand dunes of the Western Approach(beat Elder Scrolls to the punch). Due to the leveling and weapon damage system, enemies had to have large health bars to make the former mechanics work. There is no point in getting a better weapon if the Red Templars succumb to one or two hits. This makes encounters long and less fun. Dragons take so long to kill.
Only at the end does the story get intriguing. This is mostly thanks to Morigan(who I kept thinking was the villain due to the reveal trailer) and the Elvin lore.Since that I was eager to make progress in the game, I skipped most of the cutscenes, dialogue, and books;something I usually don't do.It ended up cutting my playthrough in half(about 50 hours instead of the average 100+)
In a world where Gods and magic exist, religion stills gets thing wrong. Something I only realized towards the end. Not that they were morally wrong(the chantry is clearly the old christian church and a lot of it draws inspiration from the real world) but that it's not certain who these gods were as Mythal turns out not to be an Elvin god but Morigan's Immortal human mother. And there isn't proof of the maker or the Old Gods existence. The only interesting part of Coryriphius (spelled wrong) was when he mentions that the thrones in the heavens were empty. That mystery definitely will be explained in future games.
The end seems to point towards a Grey Warden civil war being a plot point for DAV. It really sucks that EA most likely took the real ending and released it as the Trespasser DLC only for current-gen. That will probably stop me from playing it as I played it on the 360 and will likely get a PS4.
So the near future for Bioware is Andromeda. Something that is taking far too long to make. Is it going through development hell? Almost. Bioware is trying to make a far more ambitious game than Mass Effect 3. But here's the problem. This is in terms of content, not substance. Clearly the scale of this game is whats being built upon. And in my opinion thats a bad thing. Inquisition would have been significantly better in terms of story, pacing, and level design if Bioware didn't try to compete with the sheer size of Skyrim. Either way, I'm almost certain that Andromeda will be a great game:)

The first 30 minutes are ok, good even, the graphics are decent.

But as soon as you head to the hinterlands it turns to the worse, most bland, dull single-player MMORPG I have ever played. There's nothing like Baldurs gate, KOTR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, or Dragon Age 1&2 in here. It's a soulless game with no direction, even Andromeda was better. It's the only Bioware game I couldn't play more than a few hours in, (Andromeda is the only other one that I've never finished) Because of the bland, super boring MMORPG design like in a single-player game, it's, without doubt, one of the worst RPGS I've ever tried to play. A complete waste of time, skip it, even if you get it for free.

I tried to ignore the fetch quests, I tried to salvage what interesting story bits were there. But they are everywhere, there's nowhere to run. You have to power through so much junk and filler to get to the good bits, it just not worth it, it's not an RPG, it's a time waster. Cerebral torture.

The only other RPG that is this bad is Kingdom of Amalur, dragon age inquisition is even worse. 0/10
Coming from a previous hard fan of Bioware.
    Kingdom of Amalur - 1/10
    Baldurs gate 2 9/10
    Dragon Age 1 9/10
    Dragon age 2 7/10
    Mass Effect 2 10/10
    Baldurs gate 1 8/10
    Jade Empire 7/10
    Kotr - 7/10
    Andromeda 4/10
    Mass Effect 1 9/10

This isn't Bioware any more though. They lost their way with Mass Effect 3, and that was 9 years ago so it's time to move on.

A pretty good game. I've played DAO before trying this, but DAI got my attention much better.

Pros: + excellent storyline. It really feels like you're carving your way from a thug who's about to be executed - to someone who shakes hands with emperors and tell them what to do + pretty good combat system. I mean, it's not realistic by any stretch of imagination, but it's pretty fun.

+ pretty good combat system. I mean, it's not realistic by any stretch of imagination, but it's pretty fun. Tactics matter. Proper gear and enchancements matter. Quick reaction matters. Choosing companions and their tactical preferences matters.
+ Really beautiful graphics. It's not about the technology, I mean hello it's 2014. You can draw a very depressive scenery with cutting-edge graphics. But even with lower graphical settings - this game has beautiful.locations, characters, animation.
+ Locations are pretty goddamn big. Like really. They are limited by "invisible walls" eventually, but you don't feel them normally. DAO locations (even outdoor ones!) felt like a corridor quite often. DAI locations feel like an open-world game.
+ The game is pretty long, over 100 hours, even without exploring all the side quests, and secondary locations.
+ A proper party composition and tactics allows you to have ZERO health loss throughout all but the most intense fights (played on "hard").

    Cons:
    - Dialog choices are somewhat misleading... Same as with Mass Effect - save the game often. Chances are the next dialog will be important and you'll have to explore the tree before you get the character to say what YOU want him to say.
    - Quests on the world map are minimally rewarding and honestly kinda dumb. Like you send troops to save a city from extermination and get like 100 coins as reward - while one half-decent weapon costs 3'000 coins at your local armory. Hello Mass Effect again.
    - Not sure if it's a con, but - infinite arrows for archers...
    - Again - some might like it, but - no slow health regeneration when idle, and no healing magic (except for a few focus-powered spells - only for emergency use). Causes loooong home-runs to a camp for the sole purpose of replenishing HP. BUT - good tactics help with minimizing HP loss.

And unlike DA1 & 2 in Inquisition we have more dragons to hunt than ever, each was chalenging and fun.
The ending was something that I should have expected but I didn't, wheater it was sequal baiting or dlc I cannot wait what they have in store for us next.
This is a must own game if you are into the genre.

The main story is a bit lacking, i admit. But if that is the only reason you picked this game up then yeah, you will be disappointed. I'm 80 hrs in, and have done maybe a third of all the content. Truth be told, I don't want to complete all content this play through as I would like to make some different choices next time.

I played a female elf mage hoping to get down on some sweet girl on girl action in the romance scenes, unfortunately I went the straight route. Next time, I will play a male to see what Josephine is all about. The stories in this game are great. There is literally hours and hours and hours of dependent dialogue here. Verrick and Ironbull are great, I want to have a beer with them.

Graphic naysayers be damned, this game is beautiful and immersive.

Two big negatives: Not enough hot keys! I'm a mage, towards late game I ran out of hot keys for my spells, honestly that is VERY lame. The AI companion behaviors was dumbed down considerably from Origins. Personally, I would have liked a bit more options there, but I also get bored of all that **** so it wasn't a deal breaker for me like some more "hard core" players.

This game can be as challenging or as easy as you take it. I'm playing on hard and as long as I don't rush it, I'm finding the boss fights aren't overwhelming, ie, I COULD spend the whole fight(a couple of hours in some cases) in the lacking tactical mode getting my idiot companions to avoid the obvious fireballs, or I could just wander around and see what Thedas has to offer for another level or two.

    And you can't swim. wtf?!

Other than that, this game is beautiful, immersive, and reads like a B novel. If you were a fan of semi decent nerd fantasy novels as a teenager, the story will more than suffice. Get it

The inclusion of the mostly open world system was the biggest step forward for Dragon Age as a whole, finding the perfect balance between the way-too-small and repetitive map areas of DAII, and the completely open world model that would make the game quite difficult to play. It carries all of the staples of the modern polished RPG, and presents it in such a beautiful and complete experience that it is my personal Game of the Year. Bioware really has their hands on gold if they can keep this pace with the sequel.

I am completely surprised by this game. I expected more of the same console-games-applied-to-PCs as an afterthought.

Couple that with three other adventurers that you can mix and match as you discover new ones, who constantly add to the storyline with occasional dialogue with each other, and who help you as you quest, and well, this game is a delightful surprise for me. I'd highly recommend buying it. Best solo-player game I've played in ages.

Gameplay and combat work with the emphasis on magic and trickery/tactics rather than straight forward hack and slash. In the past from the days of BG I have always preferred a warrior type role. However having played this game three times, I have to now say that I got more fun out of playing a mage or a rogue than a straightforward tank type character which I found a little tedious in single player. "Go Bash something" has limited appeal for me in this games combat.

The other issue is that with average game length of around 150 hours this game with all it's areas (open worlds?) is exhausting and presents endurance challenges (that is if you want to do everything outside the core quest) that are excessive in their demand. Also unlike DAO warriors and rogues do not have the flexibility to weapon switch in combat between melee and ranged attacks which I found a little irritating

Overall still a very rewarding experience provided you can stay the distance and interact with everyone but not, despite the huge effort put into this, as fulfilling, as DAO.

Y'know I didn't really want to kill the dragons as they were gorgeous, but I needed both the XP and the goodies so one does what one has to

    Pros:
    1. For somebody who really focuses on the story quality before anything else in games (the graphics can be crappy, combat awful, but if the story is good, I am in) I was not disappointed. It is not on the level of Dragon Age: Origins, but with all the companion quests, romance and main quest story lines, the game still had me from first to last moment.
    2. All the familiar faces from the previous games, and the fact that you can talk about your characters, makes my continuity loving heart happy.
    3. Great companions with distinct personalities. Some are better than others, mind you, but I didn’t feel disconnected from them, which is an improvement. (I do like Sera, but they needed to make her less of a caricature; she would have been a much better character if they toned her down just a bit.)
    4. Huge open world where you can move nearly anywhere you want. I mean it, huge! Now, let it be stated I am not a fan of sandbox games, so sometimes it seems too much, but the necessary number of side quests needed to grab enough power for the main quest line kept me entertained, for the most part. This might be an issue on replays, though. (Also, you can jump! Okay, I might be a bit too excited about that, but that was one of my pet peeves in Bioware games.)
    5. The diversity. Bioware was always an inclusive game, and they keep on that path, to my immense joy. Seeing a world not populated by strictly white CIS straight men and eye-candy woman is mildly put refreshing in gaming environments.
    6. Josephine. Nuff’ said.
    Cons:
    1. Controls leave a lot to be desired. When I click with my left mouse button, I want to initiate an auto attack on my enemy and move to them, not start flailing my sward in the air 10 meters away from the mob. They did implement an auto attack button in a patch, but that is still not even close to the simplicity of left mouse click.
    2. Crafting is not intuitive at all. Honestly, it’s a mess I mostly left unused but for when strictly necessary. They really need to work on this.
    3. A lot of side content leaves a lot of silent questing. While I know they can’t make 200 hours’ worth of party banter, that is still one of my favorite elements of their games, and for this much content more was required to fill the empty space.
    All in all, highly recommended.

The story is decent and engrossing and the conversations with characters felt realistic... for the most part (some of the characters were a bit bland compared to other people). The combat was very similar to Dragon Age 2 and if you liked that, then you'll be fine with this. I used an XBOX 360 controller on my PC and it felt great, until I learned too many spells and could no longer map them all on my controller. But hey, you're expected to make choices in this game, and your rotation is one of them.

And with those choices, you get to choose your race again which was a welcome treat and although each race has the exact same vague opening, the game does a fantastic job with integrating your race and class. For example, I played as a mage my first time through and the game constantly reminded me or made things different because I was a mage in this mage vs. Templar world. It does the same thing if you are an Elf, Dwarf, or Qunari. In DA:2, you were always a human which was fine and all, but I missed this extra customizing feature that Inquisition and Origins really nailed.

So overall, I think anyone will love this game, but there are a lot of little things that add up that lowered my score from a 10 down to a 7. This game suffers the modern gaming problem of being released too early. Rather than delay the game and fix all the bugs and glitches, they pushed out what is very much an incomplete game. Mind you, most of these can be fixed if BioWare/EA gets around to patching them. Things such as a shoulder floating on female human mage characters or companions not holding position when you tell them too just bog down the experience.

Speaking of experience, for whatever reason BioWare chose to completely hack away their tactics page that you would use to give your companions auto-commands. This means that you have to constantly pause the game with the wheel (which also bugs out at times) in order to individually give commands to your companions. This ruins the experience of the game's story by completely stopping the action and making us babysit our party so that we don't die from some enemy encounter. In an effort to appeal to the most casual of casual gamers, they replaced tactics with a simple check, X, or star system that you would use to tell a companion how often to use their abilities. Gone are the commands to tell them to use AOEs on groups of enemies 3 or more or to use a heal on an injured ally at 30% health. Not that you could if you wanted to, BioWare chose to kick heals to the curb as well in favor of a barrier system that borderlines insanity. We already had barriers in the previous games so what BioWare really did was just eliminated heals and made barriers worse. In order to apply barriers you have to aim an AOE circle and pray your companions stay locally for you to barrier everyone up. Not that it matters much as the barrier itself rapidly degenerates over time and the cool down for the ability shows you no mercy in reapplying it.

So in the beginning the game get's in it's own way. Once you have the plethora of passives, your cool downs become much more manageable and the combat becomes the joy that it once was. Even with tactics being a shell of its former self. You just have to get through that beginning stuff.

Adding to getting in it's own way, there is such a thing as too many quests. I didn't think it was possible, but there just are too many. This would be fine if every quest gave you more depth and conversation options, but most of the time it's very WoW like with you finding some note directing you to find a person who
happens to be dead now. And then that's it. Quest over, here's some xp, 50 gold, and a weapon that is vaguely useful. I get that this game was slated to be an MMO, but that just makes me wish they had delayed it to try and fine tune a lot of the drab and mundane quests that clog up a lot of your map and time.

The other issue I had was that BioWare still can't figure out what to do with a character's arms. In normal conversations people are able to interact with things or make gestures, or if need be, just put their arms down or cross them. Whatever to make it natural. But BioWare makes the arms look rigged and awkward. They can't seem to point straight and they have this jerky kind of movement whenever they try to look natural.

I'm nit picking here because the game did do the main thing quite splendidly, it was just a lot of the little things that made me groan. And a lot of things that made me scratch my head as to why BioWare did it this way when it worked perfectly well in the other installments. At the end of the day, this is a great game that in a vacuum, would be higher rated, but because it was a sequel and those sequels did a lot of things better, this game just misses the elite review that it could have.

After an opportunity to snag the game at a good price arose I snatched it up first chance I got. To begin with, the character customization is decent, some races have limiting factors such as the elves must have tattoos and you cannot change the body shapes also there is not much diversity in the skins and they don’t seem to be in order as young to old skins so that made it quite confusing as well. The graphics are amazing right off the start, the story was compelling and kept me interested as it taught you to explore the controls. I’m more of a casual gamer so I didn’t delve much into the tactical camera, if at all, and the camera was a bit difficult to get around with at first but I managed to become used to it after a while.

It followed your basic RPG template with main missions and side missions. At times I found the side missions repetitive as most where to grind either money or experience, but the main story quests where extremely fun and I looked forward to those the most. The companions where varied and each offered different abilities that you could pick and choose to best suit your team. Some lacked compelling storylines and others where a bit cringe worthy in their actions, but somehow it added to their personalities, or lack of. The crafting and upgrade system was a bit awkward but the amount of other content the game included made up for those flaws. Things like the war table missions, judgment and the sky hold customization added to the tons of content this game has to offer. Overall I really enjoyed playing this game despite its imperfections and look forward to whatever else this franchise will bring in the future.

Thank you Bioware for one of the best RPG experiences I've ever had. But DA:I suffers from the same flaw of DA2 where the boss battle wasn't as grand an occasion as the game deserved.

The game is a bit overly large with tons of pointless side quests, but it runs relatively well, has a good story, with extremely well written characters, a given with bioware, the problems mostly come because its trying to spread over too much but in the era of overly short games this should be rewarded instead of punished.

Then we have the crappy characters that i personally felt were the weakest in all three games, followed by retcons and forced implementations of SJW crap. The combat was poorly done and they butchered the tactics system which made the first two games fun. Honestly this game was my most disappointing game of 2014. Go play DAO or hell even DA2 since it has a better story and sidequests as well as a functioning gameplay mechanic.

I think some people want a DA:O type game, but that just cant happen in the story, DA2 was worse for bad re-use of areas, though I loved most of the game.
DA:I is better and worse than DA:O Because it's Graphically brilliant and plays brilliantly with nice Dragon fights. You have your own Castle and Troops and so own. The down part is the romance isn't as good as DA:O but much better than DA2 as you only got kissed 3 times in that.
Yes there could be improvements to Relationships, but all in all it's Brilliant.

In all honestly they want all games to be practically the same and over react if anything is slightly different. The RPG is highly endangered to this homogenization effect. For this reason Metacritic is not entirely the most reliant, because niches get attacked by the wider audience. This is a niche game, don't doubt that for a second. Bioware willingly creating niche games shows they are not nearly as lost as people like to say. The real issue is that the genre RPG should be split into more than one genre, so that people don't buy a game expecting one type of experience and are shocked to find something else. If you liked Baldur's Gate than you will appreciate this game. If you are a general fan of old school style RPG's you know by know that developers try new things with each installment. That exploration and questing is the best part of the experience. That you can't fully grasp how exceptional these games are until you've played them for 50 hours, and even then you are just barely getting started. If you are the type of person who likes to play one game for months on end, than this is the game for you. If you would rather get something down in one setting, or jump into some quick matches than this game will not please you by any means. If you get bored easily and need something shiny and new to entertain you every day and are likely to have a tantrum if you don't get it, than this is not the game for you. It will not mix well with any semblance of a casual audience. It is not a game for the impatient, but for those who like to take the scenic route. Go for skyrim or call of duty if you are looking for a more easy pick up easy put down experience. Not knocking those games, just saying they have a different design to their core. This game is meant to be experienced over many, many hours. It is meant for you to get lost in the confusion, the experience, to seek answers and discover new things. It is massive, intense, beautiful, inspiring and thoroughly immersive. A great accomplishment for bioware as a whole. Expand

I believe it was blown a bit out of proportion of how big these maps really are though. About double is what I expect would have truly given this description a real meaning, as not once did I actually have to search for something. That said the environments are beautiful and great eye candy to fill you screen time with.

Gameplay: In these terms, I did not quite feel as engaged with the gameplay in Inquisition. While by no means dead boring, It isn't inherently exciting either, after about an hour or two of combat I felt myself yearning for more story. You roam the map for a bit, get a little side quest, run into a rift to close, complete and move on. Needless to say, closing a rift gate could have been a bit more involving than kill these, and press assigned key to close.

Story: It's Dragon Age, full of history, characters, simultaneous plots, and stories intertwined. The demons are really the least interesting personalities, and they could have made them more charismatic. Otherwise, same old great plot.

Content: Some say too much, but IMO the more the merrier. Some pieces did not fit as well as they should such as crafted, and mounts. But still full and rich.

From a fantastic story to a massive open world, this game ALMOST is exactly what I want out of a western RPG.

Dragon Age: Inquisition boasts some of the best visuals in the roleplaying genre, right up there with Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Right when the game starts, you are introduced to a fantastic beautiful world hand created by bioware's amazing art directors.

Gameplay for me is where the game is very strong. The combat feels very refined, the open world has a lot of dangerous areas to explore and dungeons to delve into. Although the side quests can get very monotonous at times and very grindy, overall the world is full of very fun things to do. Along with all of this however is a very good perk tree and some really cool character leveling systems for a whole party, the inventory is also organized very well and the UI feels very good but the PC controls feel sluggish and just very clunky. Tactical view is back but the camera feels a bit to close to characters but it is still nice to see it return and overall tactical view is very good in outdoor areas.

Story is really the most inconsistent part of this game and where it's really really good at some points, occasionally you won't feel as invested with the characters as much as Mass Effect and KOTOR. The story opens up incredibly however, putting you in the shoes of a person vilified by society for something that you did not do. Throughout the first part of the game, you are trying to build up the inquisition and trying to show groups like the Chantry, Mages and Templars how the inquisition can be trusted. Overall, the characters you meet such as Cassandra, Dorian, Varric and Solas are very memorable.

I have always thought that the whole Dragon Age franchise has always kind of paled in comparison to Bioware's other masterpieces such as KOTOR 1 and Mass Effect 2.

The Final Verdict is an 8/10
+ Combat feels refined and a major step up from Origins and 2
    + Most Characters are memorable
    + Fantastic Visuals
    + Good Roleplaying Mechanics
    + Good UI
    + Tactical View
    - Some Repetitive Quests
    - Reused Assets
    - Bad PC controls

The graphics were really great, and being open world meant that you had more freedom to explore such an attractive environment. The combat was also improved on from Dragon Age 2, as there is more tactical accessibility which can make boss fights and fights with dragons challenging and diverse. It also maintains its fun and exciting look as opposed to the dull look of Origins. Overall the combat is definitely a lot of fun.
The characters are also a positive for me. There are many diverse party members who are all very unique and interesting. Character interaction is also accessible which is something I sorely missed in Dragon Age 2. The approval system is also great as it fits that all your party members are very different characters, and having your choices impact how your companions view you was a very welcome addition to the game. It was also a lot of fun seeing characters from previous Dragon Age games and seeing how things have changed for them and what they are currently doing.
However, the storytelling is probably what lets this game down the most. The side quests are pointless, and it would have been good to have some more interesting side quests that are just more than a one off quest. I feel that as a result of the success of Skyrim, Dragon Age has tried to copy a lot of the elements of Skyrim which does not always fit in a game such as Dragon Age. There are times where the game drags on and really become tedious, which is a major reason why I only have one playthrough for this game.
The main story also is not perfect, resorting to quite a few cliches and uninteresting subplots. And the final battle was very disappointing as there was nothing really to distinguish it from a regular boss battle. Maybe I have been spoilt from the previous two Dragon Age games having such epic conclusions, but Inquisition's conclusion really fell flat. The interaction post final battle was an aspect I loved in Origins and it was disappointing how limited it was in Inquisition.
Overall this game had great characters and fun combat. But the story was really a let down. However, I still had a lot of fun with the game and would still recommend it to others.

Why is the average user score so low? Because in modern AAA Gaming a game is supposed to hold your hand, and spoon feed everything you need to figure out the game.

Dragon Age Inquisition does what Origins was meant to do, and goes back to the roots of CRPGs that BioWare revolutionized in the 1990s. Most people who don't like this game couldn't figure out how to get out of the Hinterlands, a massive, sprawling open-world area that introduces the game play and the plot. And the best part is, in terms of world development, it is the lamest part of the game. But it is merely an intro area, and there are 11 more like it, that all are loaded with beautiful lush environments perfectly textured on the amazing Frostbite 3 engine. You can explore every corner of Thedas, deserts, mountains, dungeons, caves, jungles, forests, river basins, coastal vistas, foothills, marshlands, etc. etc. etc.

The insurmountable amount of side-content rivals Baldur's Gate 2, though it is not as high quality, it is much higher quality than many who think it is chock full of fetch-quests, which it is. But why rate a game based on the chores that aren't required to finish it? Should I write a negative review of Assassin's Creed 2 because of the achievement to collect all 100 of those flags? No, because you don't have to do it, it's optional content. The optional, open-world areas are loaded with awesome puzzle quests, treasure hunts and companion loyalty missions that are great fun.

However this game takes the cake with its main quest. The best cast of companions I have encountered in a BioWare game since Baldur's Gate 2, and definitely the best villain I have encountered since Baldur's Gate 2 as well. Also, and this is the most important part to me, this is the best gameplay I've encountered in a BioWare game since... yes that's right, Baldur's Gate 2. This fantastic sequel was nothing if not the worthy spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate 2 that Dragon Age Origins was supposed to be. The gameplay comes damn close to being as good as Dungeons & Dragons on the infinite engine. It combines the tactical camera style and complicated levelling systems of Origins with the fast paced and immersive style of Dragon Age 2, and adds in many great new mechanics, like a crafting system that is likely the best I've ever seen in a video game.

The main quest is loaded with top-notch writing, and an excellent decision tree, this game's story is akin to Witcher 2 in that certain missions are entirely different quests altogether, depending on what decisions you made in a previous quest. The quests are all generated with a fantastic environment design, ethereal atmosphere from an amazing soundtrack and well themed sound effects and visuals. This games story missions were as immersive as the ones in Mass Effect 1 and 2.

Last but not least, the conclusion to this games' story at the end of Trespasser features jaw-dropping lore-exposition and a plot twist that gave me the same emotion feels as the ending to The Last of Us, and has me more than a little bit excited for Dragon Age 4.

    Pros:
Graphics -11/10 (DAAAYUM) the best graphics of any RPG to this day, Andromeda might have richer textures but the environment design of it and any other RPG bows to Inquisition.
Game play -10/10 Dragon Fights are as epic as they are in Baldur's Gate 2, no... they are even more epic.
Story -10/10 -I regretted a decision so badly for the first time since the first Mass Effect game.
Side content -9/10 -The only reason it's not as good as Baldur's Gate 2, but this is still the best RPG I have played in 14 years, and ranks among my 3 favorites of all time. BioWare has done it again.

    Cons:
None but the blighted opinions of nitpicking A-holes who were sad that this game didn't hold their hand through it all, this game is a true, hardcore CRPG. Witcher 3 treats you like a 5 year old and guides you all the way through white orchard. Dragon Age Inquisition is a hardcore game that assumes you are smart enough to figure out how to get past the Hinterlands, which apparently was a bold assumption given all the people who can't figure it out. That's the only reason Witcher 3 has a higher userscore.

DAI, my second favourite game after Fable3, It's beautiful, but needs a great computer for running, or improve your own one like I did, its story is well writting and each caracter have its own personality. Takes long hours to finish one game completely, around 170 hours.

You can explore big (very big) locations, interact with many caracters and discover the history of Ferelden and ''Orleais''.

Also we can ride a horse (or a lizard).

The dialogue and the characters are diverse and appropriate for a game that deals with so many things like racism and addiction. Bioware should be applauded for that. Now, every character is not a super model, but should they be? No, you should be attracted to Solace for his intelligence and thoughtfulness, to Sera for her childishness and yet still amazing competence and simple wisdom. I could go on, but every character was unique and, if they had a pretty face or not, had a real personality. Further, They each interacted with the world and each other and the inquisitor in interesting ways.

Now, I agree that the controls could be better, and the abilities were limited, but I mitigated that by learning to deal with it (Planescape: Torment, anyone?) which has it's own charm, anyway, and then by using lots of passive abilities. I looked for interesting combos and blah blah it's not important. Not a perfect game, particularly in the system aspects, and the GIGANTIC amount of collectibles, but its a direction I want to see them refine and improve and continue to GET RIGHT.

And can I say, They surprised me with some things, and I was even mistrusting of mages because that's what Dragon Age teaches you to do with mage companions, and this is a feat I truly appreciate in well written video games.

Dragon Age 2 improved on it alot, but while Inquisition tried to make it more action pact, that wasn't at all what it needed. The graphics in this game was quite good, but nothing special everyone just kinda looked the same for some reason and the expression weren't that good. All the romances and characters are boring except for Varric of course. Everyone is some whiney peasant, who needs your help for everything and oh lord the romances can get awkward. everyone is either gay or too weird. And why would anyone even bang some person who just jumped out of a portal claiming they say god or something like that. There is no origin or originality to the, main character. Just a boring and stale dude/chick. This game should have been writin better and had a longer development time. And the horses where really just (retarded) they ran so weird, that i didn't even use one through my playthrough. Boring and repetetive game overall Expand

Very good game. Bioware clearly listened to feedback from DA2 and made some significant improvements. The control scheme is HORRENDOUS - this game is nearly impossible to play with mouse and keyboard. The good:
    1) The world looks amazing.
    2) Good voice acting.
    3) A ton of nice lore.
    4) Interesting charaters and character interractions.
    5) Solid plot (tho imo too short)
These are not all the things that I enjoyed in the game but the top 5.
    Mixed:
    1) More action based combat seems like a nice idea but doesnt feel compleated and tactical camera/pause system doesn't fit in it. Specially with so stripped down combat tactics system
    2) Some of the side stuff felt out of place and I didn't even know why I was doing it other than xp.
    3) Most of the enemies felt the same, with just a different pain job. (This would be bad if combat it self would be fulfilling and fun)

There are prolly more stuff that I cant remember on the top of my head, but here are some that I think that could use a bit more work on them. And now.

    The horror:
    1) Player character needs playable backstory what happens b4 **** hits the fan. It's boring to read it on codex and doesn't connect me as a player into the world anyway.
    2) Control are **** Who ever design the controls have never seen a computer or atleast played with one.
2a) For example here left click being default attack where earlier games it was select. Not only that but when you attack even without enemies you go into combat and cannot interract with what ever you were trying to click. And on top of this waste of time you cannot unbind left click in the menu. 2b) When you press W to move it actually takes like 1-2sec for your character to actually start moving. This is usually consol problem why do you have to import this **** to PC I have no idea.
2c) When you enter combat you move much slower than normally, but since normal movement is already a bit slow it makes melee classes feel sluggish. This game direly need a sprint in general (in controls there is "sprint" but it doesn't work no matter where I bind it, only horses can sprint?)
2d) Horse moves barely faster than normal run speed and its sprinting is interrupted by every small stone on the road, where its walk speed is like you would be walking with your own character making it useless in almost everymap of the game.
    3) UI or what ever they think they were doing
3a) I finished my 1st game at lvl 25 (no DLC) with about 15 different spells. Which I coudn't use since game only supports 8... now I'm in DLC and I have even more spell that I cannot use (yey!).
3b) Menus a absolutely horrible to use with mouse, tooltips pop on items with your mouse and they there when you sell the item and blocks the view of which item is next. Menu needs to scroll it self to the item on the mouse b4 you can interract with that item. Feels who ever designed this doesn't know how mouse works, or doesnt care. Or (very minor spoiler) trying to select one quanari into your group means you have to everytime scroll tru all of your other companions to find him. Basicly its a bad consol menu ported badly into PC.
3c) Im not going in detail to tactical camera thing 1st since it's useless and 2nd cause it horrible to use on PC. So again it feels like badly ported to PC.
3d) Wartable diveded for no reason to 2 sections.
4)AI as said above all enemies feel the same, but what bothers me the MOST about the AI is that when you explore a small room all your companions follow as close as they can (hold options doesnt seem to work outside of combat) can cannot get out of said room they block all the doors etc. and you are the paper of the world, you cannot push anyone out of your way and if you are in the way of and npc you slide in fron of them like you were on ice or some **** This includes that followers slide you off cliffs and suchs.
    5) Everything in this game takes so much f*king time for no reason. When you pick somethin up, it takes 3sec. 3 f'cking seconds for pickup animation... in a game that you need to loot everything for money thats just mean. As said above menus are so badly made that takes a **** ton of extra time. Door close them selfs magically and you guessed it. TAKES EXTRA TIME to open. wartable animation was nice at 1st but guess what after 50th billion time seen it TAKES EXTRA TIME since cannot be skipped.
    6) Face and armor textures look **** in game. Armors look boooring and generic no shiny knights or mystical robes. (tho robes have always been smeh in DA imo) DLC added some but still doesnt fix it. Faces look nothing like in the editor and in general bad, even DAO vanillia face had better look in it.

To stay within 5000 limit I must end here. But it is as if half of the studio were trying to make a great game but other half (insert picture of a monkey here)

Released in late 2014 this game was supposed to be the big rival for the upcoming Witcher 3. In fact, from the very beginning this series was competing with the Witcher series for the unofficial crown of current RPG games. But unlike the Witcher series, which started very well and then only grew to excellence, Dragon Age started superbly and then declined. This decline definitely shows in the Dragon Age 2, which so many people hate, but for me the game that completely broke this series was Dragon Age: Inquisition. It started with big promises of an open world game, which DA:I most certainly is not. The open world aspects are pointless, the maps are either plain empty or filled with boring and useless collectibles. But I will try to first focus on the positive aspects of this game and there are some. The graphics looks very nice, even today, eight years later and it suits the world of Dragon Age well. I like the war table missions, they give you a sense of command, but they have very little actual impact of anything, which is a pity, but more about that later. The crafting system, while it has many flaws and can be pretty confusing to first time players, is still a nice addition to this world. And sadly that is about it. Now I must bring up the negatives, of which there are many. First of all the two major ones, that completely ruin the Dragon Age experience for me. First one is the lack of choices. In DA:I, you play as the Inquisitor, arguably one the most powerful men in the whole Thedas and yet your choices are cosmetic at best, usually there are not any choices to be made at all. What a stark difference with the two previous installments, where your actions had a huge consequences on the world. This is absolutely unforgiveable to me and I cannot think of a reason, why this vital part of the Dragon Age experience was not included in DA:I. The second big problem for me were the companions. In Dragon Age I always reveled in building strong and passionate relationships and rivalries with your companions. In DA:I, the companions are mostly badly written stereotypes of certain Thedas races. It is really disheartening to see yet another great aspect of the DA world being destroyed and spat upon by the developers. Sera of course springs to mind, this incoherent elven lesbian murdering proletary. Or Cole, his story is actually an interesting idea for a character, but somehow he winds up as a self hating crybaby, who for some reason (same as Sera) cannot form a coherent sentence. The best characters in my mind, Varric, Leliana, Cassandra were mostly just taken from previous Dragon Age games. Generally I have a strong feeling that SJW elements were forcibly and unnaturally injected into this game and into many characters. It frankly disgust me. Like the strong woman archetype, which is so prevalent that almost all the important NPC in charge are women, while men generally play menial roles and of course ugly, ugly, racist enemies. Ridiculous! But there is so much more that is wrong in this game. The combat is even further simplified from the DA2 which together with the botched tactical camera and of course the never fixed mid combat freeze bug makes the combat in this game awkward and clumsy. What a decline from the times of DAO, where the combat was just a pure tactical heaven. Another big change is the omission of healing spells, that of course changes the tactics dramatically. The one good thing that could have come from this change would be more freedom in party composition, but no, you still have to have a mage, because of the new barrier spell. Actually if you have two mages in your party, every fight is a faceroll. I do not think this is balanced at all. The changes to the approval changes are also for the worse, it is really unpredictable and it happened to me often that I had no idea how a companion would react at all. Horse riding is badly animated and awkward and seems unnecessary. Also the main story is full of cliches, the main antagonist is a racist wanna be god, who wants to destroy the world, what a nice black and white painting the developers have painted for us. The introduction of Skyhold, which happens just out of the blue, here is a huge castle for you. There is plenty of weird cliche time travelling magic, that does not make any sense. And I could go on. But I believe this is enough to illustrate my point. The game is also riddled with microtransactions (loot boxes, horse armor DLCs, etc.) and, as mentioned above, with a lot of SJW nonsense.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is not a completely bad, I was able to enjoy bits and pieces of it, but on the whole it was a big disappointment for me. Final Verdict: 40%

Dragon Age: Origins was a masterpiece. Dragon Age II was different than Origins and it received a very poor reception because people wanted and expected Origins 2, but I still think it's a good game who deserves a chance. So, how about Dragon Age: Inquisition?

The good news is that is that DA:I is a very good and fun game. The bad news is that it has ONE major flaw. It's a pretty big flaw, unfortunately, but I'll talk about that later. First, the good things. DA:I addresses the complaints DA:2 received about the geographical diversity. The maps are very varied in DA:I. Desert, grass fields, snow, storm islands, jungles, there's everything. The areas are huge and well-designed, it's obvious they put a lot of effort into them.

The main story is great and has several twists. Plenty satisfying choices to make. No spoilers in this review, but there are some ways DA:I connects with the other two games and I absolutely loved that. It truly feels like a shared universe. There are also several moments in the story when you sit on a throne and you can cast a judgment and decide the fate of characters. A minor thing, but it adds flavor. It makes you feel like the leader of the Inquisition.

I also love the new companions, interacting with them, learning more about them and doing their personal quests. I especially liked Cole, who is a unique character. The combat has been upgraded and it's fluid and satisfying. Class specializations actually feel like specializations and they change the feel of the combat. I played as a Knight Enchanter and I loved it, I felt very powerful.

One new feature in DA:I that I didn't expect to like that much is armor customization. More specifically, dyeing your armor and changing the materials it's made from. I had a LOT of fun with that. I really wish more games had that. I also had fun customizing and crafting equipment for my companions. And there is a lot of variety in armors. More specifically, mage armor. I generally play as a mage and there wasn't a SINGLE cool robe in DA:O.. In DA:2 they finalyl added cool robes and in DA:i there are even more robes, and you can customize their appearance!

I also liked customizing the appearance of the fortress. It's highly customizable. I played as an Elven Mage, so I decorated it with Dalish and Circle Tower themes. I also built a Mage tower, a garden and an infirmary. It's minor and mainly visual stuff, but it enriches the experience. It helps with the immersion into the world.

Now let's talk about that one major flaw. Most side content is collect shards and kill enemies... There are only a few interesting side quests. And this is a trend I've sadly noticed in recent games. Those huge maps I was talking about feel kind of empty. The NPCs can feel lifeless and there isn't much interaction with them. It's unfortunate. This is the worst thing about this game. But the other areas are great. I still had a lot of fun playing this. It took me over 200 hours to do pretty much everything. Again, just like in the case of DA:2, I feel like the criticisms are way too harsh.

    Seriously, give Inquisition a chance.

First of all the positive aspects: good graphics, answers to choose in dialogues, nice battle system.
But the world is too open to me, I felt like lost and therefore the story is developing too slowly to be engaging. DA Inquisition reminds me of ME Andromeda - cut 80% garbage content and make the game more thrilling.

Frankly before playing that game I have read a lot of bad critics... and while most of them have the point, I would not describe Dragon Age Inquisition as a bad game, rather average game, which is not a success for AAA title. While it starts good, it seems varied and with a lot of high quality features, I cannot help but feel bored after some time. There is simply no motivation to go up toFrankly before playing that game I have read a lot of bad critics... and while most of them have the point, I would not describe Dragon Age Inquisition as a bad game, rather average game, which is not a success for AAA title. While it starts good, it seems varied and with a lot of high quality features, I cannot help but feel bored after some time. There is simply no motivation to go up to the end with enthusiasm, no mystery, not enugh of specific ambance making it a special experience.

DAI will not remain in the history of glorious creations, in no way it is comparable to the Witcher 3 or Dragon Age : Origins, still it is better than Dragon Age 2 for sure.

The story is kind of generic, little broken, but still could be followed, like an average TV series; there are some party members that I have found interesting (Solus, Cole), amusing (Varric, Dorian) or bizarre (Sera) ... and even though they are not on the level of characters from Mass Effect series or other CRPG's mentionned before, still they manage to get the job done on the limited level. During Covid-19 confinement that game managed to keep some pace of adventure, even with all its fedexes ... however with erosion of time the boredom outweights the limited storyline/background. Romances were kind of disappointingly boring, as was the supposed villain; too bad that the main one is hidden behind a DLC paywall. It can be noted that player has some impact on the gameworld, both to modify the ending and during gamplay (the main hub area of the player changes as she/he advances, side areas are also visibly impacted : it is good; on the other hand the stakes are not motivating so that in the end the changes seem meaningless. That brings us to the player character, which somehow has quite low charisma for a role that she/he is supposed to play; even Mass Effect Andromeda protagonist left me with more memories than generic paper-cut protagonist of DAI. In the end I simple did not care at all. In time the interest of player is just extinguished, despite of big beautiful gameworld and huge quantity of (mostly meaningless) dialogues done with good voice acting.

The areas are geographically varied and interesting to see, almost like in the Skyrim. Main issue here is maybe that they are kind of generic: we have seen that before in so many other games and the lore/sidequests hardly give the shiver to discover something particularly exciting and areas do not have that much of ambiance to keep interest beyond first several hours (compare that even to the ambiance of procedurally generated Diablo 2 !). I agree with argment concerning too big number of generic "fedex" and "collections" quests: in Witcher 3 at least it had some sens and applicability for Gwent cards and crafting schemas; here it is mostly collecting random stuff, which mostly gives some quantitative "powers" to advance the game or occasionally more or less redundant rare items. The delivery of lore in DAI was simply not interesting, despite apparent formal high quality content.

I see the big problem with limited gameplay options: the tactical camera mode is useless and broken, in the end of the day we just use autoattack all the time and not much of tactics can be applied (it is surely not as rich as DA:O or older Baldur's Gate games series). The choice of skills to use is very limited by game's own system, that boils down to the Action "RPG" type.

I liked the OST, loved Lace Harding voice acting (mostly because it is the same voice actress as Liara T'Soni), and found generally the game to be well done on technical level.

It remains a solid 6/10, diminished back to 5 because of hiding important main story stuff behind a DLC (EA style players trolling) ... not a legendary stuff, but not a totally bad stuff either.

Good game, but its flaws are noticeable that it might not be fun to be put up with.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played through this game again, and i feel i have to lower my score from 6 to 4. Its worse than i remembered and i have it fresh in mind now.

The main game is really short. I remember Modern Warfare got some criticism for being short, but this felt even shorter. And in the end, closing the rifts didn’t even really matter. The main quests are the best and most rewarding, followed by companion quests. But in order to complete some of these you have to finish a bunch of other side quests. Like Unfinished Business. Get to the toxic fog, back to war table, take over griffins keep, get the darkspawn quest, back to war table to clear up more fog, go through the darkspawn lair or whatever, just to kill that one guy? Most side quests are too long and a lot feels the same. And most are really dull. It’s a big world, but its an empty world and it just feels like an obstacle between me and the game/quests. It’s not really interesting to explore and there’s not really that much to explore. The game is repetitive and tedious. I also feel like the game is pushing towards siding with the templars. I feel forced by my companions. I would really like this to be more balanced. The presentation of quests is also pretty bland. I mean like the way NPCs give them to you. And the grind you have to do progress to the game. “Look for other opportunities to expand the inquisitions influence while you’re there”. Sure, I’ll help this farmer retrieve his goat so I get more political influence. Really? Another thing, why do I, the inquisitor, have to go around and collect stones and flowers for other people? This is stupid and feels kinda world breaking for me. The world feels empty. Not really interesting to explore, few NPCs to talk to, no cities to visit, ruins and dungeons to explore. Some maps are very beautiful to look at. But they feel empty. And the maps themselves are really bad. A lot of the time it’s like “oh, there is a giant cliff here, and I need to get on top of it”. Then you have to run for five minutes along the cliff to try and get on top of it, only to realize you should’ve gone the other way. The combat system is bad, boring and lackluster. The action feels messy and shallow and the tacticical system feels clumsy and bad. It’s like the worst from both worlds. The AI is bad. Boss fights way to long, and really boring. Origins did this so much better. Enemy variety is non-existent. Personally, i liked Origins fighting a lot. I know a lot of people don’t and that a lot of people liked DA2s fighting better. But no matter which one you like, they are both superior to DAI. I don’t really like the war table either, but I don’t really know why. Maybe it feels like something cheap added to make the game seem bigger or something. Give you more to do, idk. Crafting requires a tonne of resources, and resource gathering is a tedious and boring chore. The mounts are a joke. No party banter and you can’t interact with anything. Approval. One of the creators said that the Origins system felt off since it was measured in numbers and that’s not how it works in real life. And like yeah, it’s a video game. But that was the reason they removed that from the game. But still, court approval in Wicked Eyes is measured in numbers. Your Influence and your level is in numbers. Really? I think it’s a downgrade and the excuse feels like a cop out to make it easier for themselves. Companions. This bioware game has my least favourite companions. They feel shallow and clichèd, everything feels one sided. And no, I’m not talking about their personalities and views etc, I’m talking about substance and writing. They were pretty shallow in DA2 too, but that’s a way older game made in a very short time, thanks to EA. In The Witcher 3, characters feel like real people. And that game came out a year after. Here they feel like simple sitcom characters. Canned laughter and you have a Chuck Lorre show. I see a lot of people complaining about the political agenda/views bioware displays through the characters. I think that’s a nice thing, but I agree that it feels a bit shoved down your throat at times. But maybe it wouldn’t feel that way if the companions weren’t cheap shakespearian cardboard characters. The Trespasser DLC is okay storywise, but the gameplay, god damn. Run back and fourth. Such a small, compressed addition to the story and they make even that feel tedious and slow. There’sone quest in this DLC and I still feel like I’m grinding. But all this aside, my singular biggest problem with the game is that it just does not feel like Dragon Age all. The whole aesthetic. Origins and DA2 feels like Dragon Age games, this feels like a generic RPG. I guess that’s the biggest problem for me. If it felt and looked more Dragon Age I might have ignored a lot more of these points and also wouldn’t be as annoyed by stuff. But it just kept snowballing as I went.

This isnt exactly a bad game, but it is bland. Every single part of this game is mediocre. I'd give it a 5 but considering its a downgrade from origins, and even a downgrade from 2 in some ways, it deserves a 4. In terms of game design it is miles behind other RPG games in a quasi-open world setting.

It's funny how Bioware took a franchise created by a master piece initial game and ruined with all awful following releases. This game shouldn't exist.

I came to this game wondering whether Bioware would return to form and make something good - it's been a while since they release anything worth having and for me Inquisition represented the last time I would shell out for one of their games.

Glad I did - it's absolutely a triumph and it would appear Bioware have found some of their old spark again. The scope is epic and the atmosphere

Glad I did - it's absolutely a triumph and it would appear Bioware have found some of their old spark again. The scope is epic and the atmosphere and story is great. There's always stuff to do and if you get bored doing one activity you have move off and do something else for a while. They seem to have borrowed a bit from Skyrim - though that is hardly a bad thing.

There seems to be a lot of mmo mechanics in there and collection type questions but all in all it comes off well. The visuals are great and the music is brilliant. Characters are engaging (for the most part) though they aren't as good as the companions in the Mass Effect Series.

Not much to complain about here - some activities can get a bit tedious but on the whole - really, really good game.

Needed some serious development on the play through side. An engaging story, but clunky interface and options really hindered its playability. I hope they take note that over complicating things does not make them more immersive, but simply less enjoyable. Streamlined in method of interaction does not mean you have to dumb down the interface. This would have been okay, but because theyNeeded some serious development on the play through side. What did they do to the Dragon Age saga...
Gone are the days when the first opus was such a nice surprise. Even with all it flaws, I prefer the previous opus : at least skills, ui, interactions, story were good.
Here we have some kind of boring MMO mechanics, kinda meh RTS elements killing the game.
It's long, boring, blend. Shame really.

DA: Inquisition falls short of expectations due to its lackluster plot, shallow gameplay and uninspired open world filled with meaningless content. Consider revisiting DA: Origins instead – 3/10.

I have given this game three attempts. At thirty hours in on my most recent attempt, I felt like a fool for indulging the developers. Shame on you, Bioware. This game has the worst -- INTENTIONALLY the worst -- level design I have ever come across. It is an empty MMO. I am fairly deep in the game and there is no story, no character interactions to be had. It is simply a run-fest (itI have given this game three attempts. its actually really funny watching those giving a 10 to this game to "balance" the zeroes...well, this game does not actually deserves a zero, but very well a 2 or 3......

now, while the graphics are a total improvement over previous games, it actually killed the whole idea....crispy forests and light abundance goes against the dark tone of a dragon age game, in fact, the only zone that actually looks like dragon age are the swamps in the southern part of Ferelden....

the combat is 100% unplayable, unless you are a mage, and then it becomes a 1,2,3,click fest.....

the tactical combat is not bad, is just inexistent....you never have a whole picture of the battlefield, which mean, you cannot send one of your companions to fight an enemy if the enemy is outside the radar of such companion, and even, when you can, there is not much to do, just "defend" or "attack"; forget about the rich tactical list of DAO or even DA2....

by the way....there is no God in Thedas...that is, at the very end, the whole point of the story...and that is no spoiler....
