This is a fun FPS, but not groundbreaking by any means. The single-player is fast and the music is awesome. It looks pretty good, but perhaps a little worse than it should be. I haven't gotten incredibly far in the story, but it reminds me a lot of playing DOOM as a kid. Maybe not where I would get lost for like 30 minutes and get pissed off, but just the cool intensity of it. Multi-playerThis is a fun FPS, but not groundbreaking by any means. Multi-player is really fun, a bit slower than I'd like, but still faster than your average FPS online. I'm a baby, so I don't like games that make you have to spend every waking hour of your life to get good and this game is nice because you can have both bad games and good games despite your playing level. Overall, fun game, but I'd probably wait till it's on sale Expand

It was ok. Easily an 8/10 for single mode (I haven't tried multiplayer). But, it loses 2 points, because it does get REPETITIVE towards the last ~20% of the game (same fight styles/arenas).

Big improvement over Doom 3, this is much closer to what the original games were.
Fast gameplay, well optimized, good graphics, plenty of options, good soundtrack, fun weapons, secret rooms, plenty of action and no talking.

A few minor issues with it... most fights involve getting locked in a room with a bunch of enemies that just spawn in so you are fighting in arenas instead of across the map, there is no tension as you always know when you have cleared an area out because the music suddenly stops. I don't like having to rely on the qte kills to keep health up and they feel cheap, enemies don't drop weapons and the map design isn't quite up to the old Doom games.

These are only minor issues however, this is a good game and a good Doom game.

Shortly: the SP campaign is 9/10 easily, but since MP is basically a dumpster I have to cut a piece since it's aggregated score (and I'm being very generous by cutting only one point, but why not if SP campaign is really great).

So if you like old-school shooters and don't mind paying what it costs for 12-15hour SP campaign alone (don't put hopes into MP, really) - you must play this

So if you like old-school shooters and don't mind paying what it costs for 12-15hour SP campaign alone (don't put hopes into MP, really) - you must play this game. SP campaign is absolute blast. From the very fist moment I picked it up - I was caught up in nostalgia, because they don't make such games anymore - it's just COD, COD spam every year.. The gameplay is what you would expect from DOOM - it just feels good to slay the demons. The weapon assortment is great and BFG is damn awesome and level design is excelent with many secrets to discover. The game runs just great, I hit over 100fps on everything maxed out on mid-range gpu RX470 in 1080p.

What's bad about DOOM? Well not much to be honest, if you imagine there is no MP, the only downsides are a bit clunky to read map (on levels with multiple vertical layers) and a bit uninspired weapons and armor upgrade systems.

If you are looking for old-school FPS fun - this is must buy game.

But, they advertised and tried to show Its multiplayer as some kind of new competitive FPS
and It isn't. Multiplayer wise this game is very shallow.
The multiplayer has the gist of It's singleplayer counterpart but in a very very bad form.
I am not whining about chaingun or bad pings. It just doesn't work as a complete multiplayer.
You just run & gun. (I understand Its the spirit of Doom but still.. It's 2016!)
I don't feel any strategic motives while I'm playing It.
Aim is way too easy for It to be strategic.
It's just .. dull. I don't know how to describe it.

    Overall,

    1. The singleplayer is a good fun. (It's not perfect but again, is really fun)

    2. The multiplayer is bad.

    3. So If you like 10 to 15 hours of awesome run and can be satisfied by It (possibly furture DLC? and snapmap stuffs?), then go for it. If you're like me and love multiplayers in games, don't buy this game.

    Thanks for reading !

In addition, the game runs very well at the recommended spec and for setups not too far below it as well, though there are known issues with 2gb graphics cards that may result in occasional framerate drops. There are also a few instances of low-res textures streaming in not fully loaded. I also wasn't a fan of the challenges and weapon mastery tasks. These are incentivized with weapon upgrades/tokens though often require you to complete tasks or approach combat in a totally inefficient way (eg: kill a Mancubus with a pistol) that you would never have done otherwise. This unfortunately interrupts the flow of combat.

Anyhow, I have smashed the game since it was released yesterday morning, being a huge Doom fan and having grown up playing the originals I was excited for the new installment but was also cautious in trying to keep my expectations low in case I became disappointed with the end product. So far it has to be said that I have thoroughly enjoyed playing, it captures some of the core elements that made the original a rousing success, fast paced, brutal and full of gunplay and killing, which is what it's all about right? The weapons are pretty awesome though I do think the rocket launches is a little underpowered, but apart from that no complaints on that front, the powerups aren't found too often so it's always nice to come accross them, enemy variations are pretty good too and if you know how to vary the gore kills you can avoid them getting repetitive quickly. Upgrading is something new to the game and I like how simple it is, also it's nice to see that it is completely optional and I think the next playthrough will be done without using upgrades. That is one thing Doom does very well, it allows the player to play how they want to play, you can turn off hints, gore kill highlights, map hints etc.

The music is pretty good, very good in fact, fits the game perfectly and sometimes I think I can distinctly recognize some parts of the music.

Graphically it is immense, very well polished, textures and colours are rich, it's also extremely well optimized, I play in 2k on ultra settings with my SLI 970's and very rarely do the frames drop under 60fps. Level design is very nice as expected and the whole layout makes for a flowing experience. Storywise, obviously the emphasis is on gunplay, the story is there but obviously it's not going to be a great deal of dialogue because this is Doom afterall and not Skyrim- I have seen so much criticism on here from these 0 reviewers regarding the storyline, show's how much they know about Doom and how you shouldn't particularluy pay attention to their nay saying, I think they expected and wanted just another Call of Duty clone, **** them.

I tried my hand at the multiplayer but to be honest, so far it isn't for me, it may well grow on me but I bought Doom primarily for the single player experience so multiplayers was just an added bonus in my opinion. I will try it again in the future but for now, replaying the campaign on a harder difficulty is my objective. The snapmap editor is also a pretty user friendly tool that makes it possible to quickly make custom multiplayer maps, a nice touch.

Overall I am very pleased with the game thus far, because I am not keen on the multiplayer I don't think it will have a longevity that's any longer than Wolfenstein so I expect to play it for a couple of weeks before moving on to the next game. I think this game will appeal to old school Doom fans and players new to the franchise alike, it's easy to pick up and play. Not a perfect game by any means but definitely a massive improvement over Doom3 (which I liked incidentally), I give it an 8 out of 10 based on the single player campaign and the fact it captures the Doom mood, tone and feel, from everything, gameplay, music and visuals. I'm not usually one who listens to reviews when buying a game, I always prefer to find out for myself if I like it rather than try and make a judgement based on somebody elses perceptions, nothing wrong with listening to reviews but judging by the 10/10 and 0/10 reviews here I thought it was time someone put in a sensible user review that isn't fuelled by puberty hormones or an inherent need to troll. I am going back to play, hope this review helps.

Half Life 2 is a masterpiece. Bioshock is a masterpiece. In comparison to those games mentioned, Doom's campaign is a bare bones experience, with little story, no memorable scripted events, dated graphics, and enemies that mostly spawn in when you enter a room instead of being strategically placed on the map. The gameplay is essentially this: walk into area, kill everything in it, move on to next area. It's also totally lacking the dark, horror atmosphere of previous Dooms.

Even the much praised "secrets" hidden everywhere are pretty lazy in comparison to the '90s FPS games it draws inspiration from, most of which boil down to finding collectable Doom dolls, upgrade points, or retro levels (which we've already seen before in Rage, and more recently Shadow Warrior). In all reality, this is a really bare bones campaign compared to what we expect from a modern shooter, and certainly what we expect from a Doom game. Doom 3 was a much more robust and innovative experience, despite its worse gunplay, and it had gobs of atmosphere.

So it's a good thing it's so much fun to shoot things! Doom 2016 nailed the gunplay, the gore, the audio, and the movement. The combat is the bread and butter of the game, and it does this very well. You feel like a total badass when executing glory kills, of which there are many variations. The weapons are very well designed and each have mods that give them different abilities. They can also be upgraded and there are challenges to complete in order to use them to their full potential. It's this progression system that makes the game a lot more fun than it would be otherwise, always giving you something to work towards.

In the end, the game wins because of its fast-paced , brutal combat, but I wish it had been more. It certainly could have been. It could have been a leading title in innovation like other id games, with frightening atmosphere and hyper-realistic graphics. It could have had an actual story and thrilling set pieces, and more variation in levels. Instead, it's pure fan service, celebrating the series' legacy more than trying to take it to the next level.

But when that face-melting metal soundtrack kicks in, and you're dodging demons left and right, firing rockets at one and then shotgunning another, adrenaline pumping as you struggle to stay alive, chaining glory kills together and trying to complete challenges at the same time, it all feels immense and awesome. That's what Doom 2016 is all about. That's what's worth the price of admission.

    Inventory:
Right at the beginning of the game, it says F1 and F2 are used to switch inventory items, and LCtrl is to use items. There is also an upgrade tree for inventory items. I'm currently 8 hours into the game and I have never found an inventory item. I'm still hoping I eventually find one.

    Saving:
There's no way to manually save the game. This is a huge problem because the auto saves are based on plot points rather than locations or a timer. Dying can easily set the player back by 20 or 30 minutes. All of the found secrets are lost, all of the enemies need to be killed again, all of the items need to be picked up again. Although the game has a lot of secrets and areas to explore, the game severely punishes players for exploring. You might die because Doom Guy didn't grab onto a ledge you expected him to grab, and now you're back to where you were 30 minutes ago. This forces an ultra conservative play style that clashes with the run and gun theme of the game.

    Data Corruption:
The game crashed when I was about 2 hours into playing, and my save file was corrupted. Since there is no manual saving, and the auto save only keeps 1 save state, this means a single crash can wipe out all of your save data. All of your secrets are gone, all of your little doom guy trophies are gone, all of your upgrades are gone.A few people on the internet have complained about losing save data when they're deep into the game, and those people are justifiably angry as hell. This also means you shouldn't play Doom if your computer has any stability problems or if your neighborhood has power problems. If you get a blue screen or a power failure while playing Doom, there's a good chance all of your data will be corrupted. It's just bad game design to not allow manual saving.

10/10 Animations are very fast and aesthetic, lots of eyecandy, but won't hurt the flow of the game
8/10 Music - nice metal music, could have been a bit heavyer/louder sometimes (at least in my book)
8/10 Performance: 4-5 times the game dropped to 45fps for a couple of seconds in some of the heavyer fights in larger rooms, otherwise 60+ on Ultra with gtx780ti, i7, 16gb, 1 crash in 9h of gameplay

The only thing that really bugs me out is the lenght of the campaign, I needed only 9h to complete the game on normal difficulty (died a couple of times, definitive a challange on higher difficultys), but I need to mention that I rushed through the game and didn't payed too much attention to all the secrets and collectibles.
You can't skip the 20second intro for whatever reason, and there is no music in the menue which is a bit odd. Also you have to restart the game whenever you change from campaign to multiplayer or snapmap.

The level creation is excellent so far and I can't wait to start putting in time in designing things. This type of thing that keeps games in the forefront for years, not just a month. Quality tools to make campaigns with intelligent levels. It's available and included in the game. Enjoy!

Awesome! Bring on the official map expansions and community based snapmap levels!

If they improve multi-player not to be some strange generic Quake-lite type thing this would be a 9.

Probably one of the easiest games I've ever played on Normal difficulty. Having said that, it was also a very satisfying game. The story was a bit "meh" but let's face it. Who plays doom for the storyline?
The graphics, sound and gore is what I was in it for and it delivered on those levels easily. If you're just in for a game to KILL - then this is the one for you. Well worth the money.

Th upgrade system is fantastic and level design is very good. My only criticism is that the environments can get fairly "samey" after a while and some of the monster designs get a little dull (some extra skins could of gone a long way).

If your looking for a fast, lethal and aggressive single player game and have grown tired of the COD like snooze fests then Doom would be a decent purchase.

One of my favorite games of 2016. This game is spectacular. Fast-paced, brutal, gory, and it pays great homage to the original DOOM. Simply outstanding. The multiplayer might not be great, as it tries to combine the old DOOM's style with newer multiplayer elements and fails, but the single player is one of the most satisfying and fun experiences I've had in a long time.

An decent refresh of a solid old school FPS with awesome graphics and atmospheric sound.
The single player campaign will keep you busy for 15+ hours if you take the time to look around for all the secret areas and suit and weapon upgrades.

Singleplayer: The best FPS combat in years that knows what it wants and couples it with exploration and story in a manner that's exactly right.
Multiplayer: Why loadouts? It ruins the awesomeness of weapon switching and adaptation that makes singleplayer combat so amazing. Had the combat been 1:1 with SP it would be a solid 10.

DOOM (2016) brings back classic FPS elements like picking ammo, health, secret items to modern day of FPS gaming. Although, the game has some new features such as glory kill, upgradable gears, new enemies etc. They don't affect the gameplay too much. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game made me indeed remember when I was little and played the old Doom. The yellow, red and blue keys, the mazes I would get lost and the arcade pace the game goes about. The game is not very long in it's single player campaign, but as we can go back to previous stages to collect upgrades left behind, the game will have at least 15 hours of gameplay until you start doing some multiplayer.

One thing I didn't like is that at some point we get two runes, Rich gets Richer and Armored Offensive that are too much better than the others, we get almost limitless ammunition and the game lose some depth. The game has some bugs yet, it crashed with me at least once every two missions, and a lot of players have similar complaints. I'm not taking this into consideration in my evaluation, since I know it will be fixed soon, but for such an expensive game, and to some extent simple, it should not have happened.

The game kept the arcade style of the series, we aim down the sights with just a few weapons, the others have modified fire by pressing the right mouse button. The character moves fast and in this game I saw something that I never had seem before, we can finish the enemies with melee attacks. At first it seemed not such a good idea, but it doesn't hurt the rhythm of the battle at all and add more gruesomeness to the game.

If you want a terror atmosphere this game is not for you. The character is a very powerful hero, we don't feel afraid or worry about what is lurking in the darkness, the battles are very open and predictable in areas that are similar to arenas. The immense power of our hero and the great quantity of enemies that attack us make for a fast paced arcade game focused on the action, not terror.

The music is very nice, but I thought the game is a little too colorful. I'd expect something more grim and gloom. Our character never speaks, which is good, since it avoids the danger of creating a bad personality and it's easier to identify with. We deal with just two NPCs, that are machines. In short, a very nice game if you want speed and action.

    1 – GENERAL

I do not know if I should classify DOOM as a FPS or a run and gun. Probably both should be the correct answer.

When you start playing, and after a short and easy demon killing spree, the Doom Guy is presented with the first burst of storytelling. You immediately think that the game is ruined, but you are wrong. Doom Guy almost always ignores all the information and help, he's there to kill demons, and that's also, what you want. So it's a win-win, right?

Despite that, the story is there if you want to know it, and it's quite good tbh. I assume I was one of those searching and reading parts of the story, it's interesting enough to keep me motivated to search for it. It's not shallow also. Thumbs up Bethesda.

We have quite a set of sounds to talk about in this game. The guns have nothing remarkable to speak about, but also nothing wrong about them. That's good, do not get me wrong, but not at the same level as the demons sounds, that are mostly flawless and very different between them. And I cannot forget the soundtrack. That heavy metal... what a joy to listen. Probably the best soundtrack of a game from this genre.

This game is not a visual novel, and if you are searching for top quality graphics probably this is not your game, but it does the job quite well, and both Mars and Hell are quite well designed, and they are very immersive. The game as tons of platforming, so most levels evolve around that concept. The ledges have to be distinguishable so we know where to grab, that's enough for a surprisingly atmospheric game, but not enough to be as beautiful as the Witcher 3. But believe me, you will not notice that.

    2 – GAMEPLAY

Brace yourself because you will spend some time dashing and shooting in this game. And you will have to do this at quite a fast pace. That's positive stuff in my book, but at some point, this starts to get a bit repetitive, and you will ask for more. At that point, you will start to sense the endgame, and your excitement starts to grow again. OFC the very intensive boss battles give a little help to that excitement, even if the bosses are a bit of bullet sponges with not much of intelligence to go with it, but believe me when I say that you will only think about that after the battle is over.

Glory kills are a blast and you will not get sick of those. Nothing better than a demon dismemberment to start the day, right? And also, those are very important for you, since they provide valuable health and armour pickups. Without those, you would not last long.

Are you getting short of ammo? Worry not, just grab your chainsaw and saw some demon in half. He will give you that much needed ammo refill in form of massive ammo drops. Does this make the game significantly easier? Yes, but who cares? Just give me that chainsaw kill!!

You can upgrade all your weapons for an increased amount of fun. You just have to find the correct pickups and buy an upgrade. Simple as that.

That game is packed full of secrets to find and places to explore. Just prepare yourself to do some platforming puzzles and you are good to go. I admit that my main focus was always the killing part, but at some point, I started to take joy in finding those secrets also.

You also have a multiplayer mode. A conventional arena shooter, with tons of unlockable and where you can play the demon also. This last part is the best thing about multiplayer modes. The mode is OK, but just very far from the fun I have in campaign mode. There's a lot of people still playing it, so if that's your thing, you will enjoy this one also.

    3 – CONCLUSION

I usually play older games, and I'm always complaining that the games are not what they used to be. DOOM is what games used to be when I was younger, and at the same time, it gives me hope for some other older games like Duke Nukem or so.

It's a very good game, very fast paced, very straightforward, very linear and very fun.

    It worth every penny.

    Just go buy it!

Living up to the expectation of the series that started it all is a hard thing to do. But amazingly enough DOOM does not disappoint the player. Keeping the same gameplay style as the first two games you will run around a maze like level collecting cards or collectables while killing all the demons from hell. If you’re looking for a story then most of the games story is written through codex entries so you don’t have to be bothered if you don’t want to. Since you are running like a lunatic escaping from the police enemies drop health and ammo like its candy, so although you will be losing a lot of health with the fast paced action you won’t likely die. There is no reloading your gun; you have a full arsenal at your disposal (not that 2 gun carry rule). Once you weaken your enemies an execution move can be performed which doesn’t really ruin the pacing of the game. However the moments where you have to run and find key cards can be sluggish at times. But magically your character has a telepathic HUD that shows you where you have to go just in case you get lost. Oh, and you also have a map too. Just in case you really don’t want to explore. But those are minor details.

Speaking of weapons there is a chainsaw which can be used three times. If you are running extremely low on ammo you can use this beauty to make the baddies pour ammo from their intestines. Using the BFG is an amazing feeling. You will not be disappointed with the amount of gore in this game. The multiplayer however, is much to be desired. Taking notes from Halo Reach, instead of running around an arena with a bunch of weapons to collect. You instead start off with a somewhat heavy arsenal with a two weapon limit that can be built up over time. However this is my experience with the BETA version of it so I cannot speak for the recent release of the game. Multiplayer isn’t the reason I purchased doom. The single player is the sole reason.

The creators of DOOM did release an update for the game. Rightfully called “Update 6.66”. Update 6.66 brings substantial changes to the game’s multiplayer, with a revised progression system, new rune system for loadouts, enhanced kill notifications and bug fixes. In addition to these improvements, we’re upgrading all existing players’ content to include all multiplayer DLC. It also includes all of the DLC free with the update. So you don’t have to go spending all of your hard earned cash on additional content to the game. It comes with it. Which is really nice of ID.
Overall if you’re looking for a game to kill a weekend with then you can’t go wrong with DOOM. You won’t get bored as easy as you might think, and above all else it is a fun adventure. I give this game an 8.4, and if the multiplayer would have been as good as the original (Which it probably but my ignorance at the moment has me at a standstill in this regard) I would of given it a perfect 10.
    Happy Gaming!

To keep it simple, DOOM is everything a sci-fi shooter should strive to be without being too extreme while still offering a unique environment to explore and enough monsters to get your fix of action at the same time.

DOOM plays very similarly to Serious Sam and offers a wide variety of weapons and customization similar to the Dead Space series for you to tailor your own experience. The game doesn't try to force you to do anything in particular and you're free to approach fights however you like, although it's recommended to take a more aggressive and active approach over a defensive one. Checkpoints in the game are sometimes a bit unforgiving, which means that if you die, you may be forced to redo an area all over again.

In essence, DOOM is a game that is better described through actual gameplay than words. It's a bit easy on Normal, but I recommend that difficulty for controller users. You can always tweak the difficulty to your pleasing. The game is definitely more enjoyable with a keyboard and mouse though, and feels more engaging at a higher difficulty. The game is also quite lengthy, always keeping you wondering when you will reach the end.

DOOM is a hidden gem that many will overlook thinking that it's dark or fearsome, even though it really isn't. I give it an 8 out of 10 for being a magnificently solid arena shooter. I haven't found any reason to rate it a 9 yet, as the game doesn't go the extra mile to deserve it. Regardless, I'm genuinely surprised that Bethesda put out a game as well-made as this, especially since they're not known for arena shooters.

In terms of issues, the game did freeze a few times for me, which was a little annoying. I experienced two bugs near the end of the game where the game wouldn't progress and would force me to have to waste time redoing fights. The game also stuttered quite often, and the crosshair sensitivity would frequently drop, forcing me to have to drag my mouse to make wide turns.

In many ways, the 2016 incarnation of DOOM is the perfect shooter. It's got a great premise (you shoot demons in the face, what more could one want), it's fast-paced but not frenetic, it has a great atmosphere, and gameplay designed purely to make you want to shoot even more demons in the face. Level design is very solid, weapon types are numerous and varied, enemy types are numerous and varied, enemy AI is actually sensible, the soundtrack is wicked, and the game runs more smoothly af. There are also tons of upgrades in several forms (weapon and armour upgrades and runes that provide extra perks), which allow you to tailor the gameplay to your style (to some degree), making it even more fun shooting demons in the face.

In terms of gameplay structure, luckily there were only 3-or-so boss fights in the game, which is fine by me because boss fights are often underwhelming. And, to be fair, they were a little underwhelming here too - much less of a challenge than arena fights with swarms of lesser demons. And this brings me to my favourite aspect - the arena fights. SO [REDACTED] FUN!!! They're extremely dynamic, forcing you to run and jump around trying not to get surrounded, then getting surrounded anyway and shooting faces in every direction - left, right, above and below. And they're perfectly balanced with ammo, health and armour pick-ups, so that they generally require a real effort, but are never frustrating.

My only real complaint with this game is the depth of the story and character design. Or, rather, the shallowness. And yeah, I know I know, it's DOOM, what do you expect - you shoot demons in the face and that's it. And yes, the game is really good at what it is. BUT, because of the excuse plot I lacked an emotional connection to it, which some great shooters do provide without a detrimental effect to combat (e.g. BioShock Infinite, Wolfenstein: TNO, or from what I've heard - Mass Effect). With a more engaging story it could be not just the perfect shooter, but the perfect game.

Its an excellent action game, a pure first person shooter. Graphic and game-play are flawless. However, it lacks a good story, and the player has no connection with characters. After few hours, the game becomes monotonous and has nothing more to show. After all its a great game like the whole series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. DOOM (2016) ... the only FPS to give meaning for single player.
Let me sum my review to pros and cons and then (if you want , you can read my whole review for my reasons as to why the game is so GOOD !!)
    9/10

    pros
    -Great single player
-Weapons are unique and and awesome
    -soundtrack is pure BADASS
-Enemy variety !! something that's missing in alot in FPS shooters these days.
-Fast pace combat that feels like Devil may Cry with guns rather than swords
-custom maps by users is always great

    cons
    -multiplayer is not competitve
    -very unbalance to be honest
    -needs more boss battles

DOOM delivers what game should be like ... fun and chellenging.
It kinda feels like playing DMC4 with its fast pace combat.
You always need to move , different weapons behave different and camping on enemy AI is discouraged by how the game was create for you.
Get close and RIP AND TEAR UNTIL ITS DONE !!!
dogde, shoot , jump , glory kill and move to the next objective.

This leads me to the story. I'll be honest I didn't listen to the story narrative given by the robot guy , the evil woman and that demonic voice.
The game gives you the option to simple speedrun throu the game if you just care about playing the game.
How ? well , instead of being stuck in a cutsence or a walking section , you get listen to the narrative played in stations around the levels' map.
This goes very well with the main character , Doom guy/slayer (You).
So far , I heard that the story was great.

Of course , I can't avoid the big plus that this FPS game has over TONS of FPS shooters which is enemy variety.
Each enemy type fights different and you need to know who is the most threatning before you go and slay the others.
This comes to play heavily in hard difficulties , so get a grip on your mouse and GIT GUD !

Last is the multiplayer.... this wasn't heavily developed with thought.
    Its too chaotic.

I was looking forward that Doom online might be like the old Halo 3/2 multiplayer.
No class loadout (ONE default "loadout"), just weapon spawns. this could have made the online much better rather than coping the old COD formula.

I can already tell you this , the ability to give players to transform to demons that instant kill you will enrage you more than being killed by BFG blast.

luckily , replay value has its root in arcade more and custom maps made by users.
I played alot in arcade more to get S ranking (Slayer not Stylish XD).
Kinda of the reason why I think this game is DMC with guns rather than swords.

so overall .... the first FPS game that is par with the Halo games (except 4 and 5).

From the opening of the game when Doom guy Smashes the com link before cocking his gun and entering the environment of mars till the end, was non stop fun for me. Typically I do not really like shooters and prefer games like Devil May Cry or soul series where the combat is more calculated. But doom truly outshines it's restrictions of being a game for the original fans of just constant shooting with it's Glory Killing Finishers, and that was a serious hook for my enjoyment. Story wise It is not really deep, but it does well setting up a fresh start after all this time.

Highly recommended for people who just wanna get into the game from the off set as it is one of the games that u just log in hit continue and you are into the action, designed for fun. That being said Exploration is encouraged which is a positive in my book as well as challenging enough combat from normal to higher difficulties which is key since all you are doing is firing a gun and Oh Moving... keep Moving... It is your best Strategy.

Don't get me wrong, this game is phenomenal.
Something about it, though, is overly polished.
They were so true to the original, except in one place: the pacing. Doom 2016 becomes completely predictable because the (well-made) music is synchronized with the action. It's always the same, you always get a checkpoint when you're done, its cool the first few times but they use this mechanic

Doom 2016 becomes completely predictable because the (well-made) music is synchronized with the action. It's always the same, you always get a checkpoint when you're done, its cool the first few times but they use this mechanic over and over again the entire game.
You enter an area, the intense music comes on, you defeat a wave of demons, the music crescendoes into some epic stuff, you defeat the big mega demons (quite easily with a few rockets, gauss rifle shots or one big BFG blast) , and then the music dies down and you roam the level freely, knowing that nothing's gonna jump out at you because the music isn't hinting at it.
You get more than enough ammo and upgrades, more than you'll ever need. (caveat: I should have played the game on Nightmare, didn't wanna start over but Ultraviolence is WAY too easy)
The original Doom just had monsters everywhere, they didn't come in predictable waves that you clear out. It was just an endless stream of monsters without the music conveniently telling you what's gonna happen next. I wish they would do ths in Doom Eternal but probably not gonna happen cause console fans

DOOM is obviously a very good game, but there are a few aspects that could have been made better.

First thing first, DOOM is a graphical masterpiece from every possible aspect, on top of being one of the best optimised games on the market for such quality. With my old GTX 970M, I could run the game on high settings at constant 60 FPS, with only one very punctual framerate drop in 20 hours of play.

DOOM adopts the complete fast-FPS package: you move relatively fast, the enemies even faster, swapping weapons is quick, and most fights take place in closed arenas with teleports and multi-level platforms. This results in very dynamic, nervous fights where you need to move and shoot all the time while hordes of monsters appear on a regular basis.
In these fight sequences, DOOM is thrilling, intense, gore, and the mechanic of glory kills (basically a melee finishing blow with a very gory animation) is very satisfying. An amazing heavy-metal OST pushes the adrenaline even higher and glorifies the intensity of the fights.

A very good effort was made to be both loyal to the original DOOM games, and to modernise the game design. In particular, almost all the monsters from the old games (together with some new ones) are present, and for each of them, a particular shooting/hitting/rushing/armor pattern was found so that the monster needs to be dealt with in a particular way, while keeping an appearance close to the one from the original games (with the graphical standards of 2016). I also really appreciated that some monsters like the Mancubus, almost gimmicky in DOOM 2 because they were slow and predictable, are actually a real threat in 2016 thanks to their new design.

If DOOM had been as just described constantly for 20 hours (the campaign took me almost exactly 20 hours to complete), it would have been a clear 10/10 for me, with excellent replayability on top of that. But there are a couple of details that spoiled a bit the fun at times.

The main thing that could have been improved in DOOM in my opinion is simple: if the philosophy of the game is to be a fast-paced, no-brain shooter giving a wicked feeling of satisfaction when exploding hordes of enemies, why not completely assume it and remove all these little RPG components ? I mean, I understand that the game should offer some rest times between fights. Probably the purpose of modding weapons, increasing your health/armor/ammo statistics and the runes was to give the player something to do before diving in the next arena. But for me it just spoils the rhythm completely. Doing a DOOM level for me summarised into: exploring a bit, having a blast in the first arena, and then boring myself looking for secrets, checking which challenge I should complete to improve one of my mods or one of my runes... until the next arena, and so on. No please no. Keep a few secrets here and there for completists, but remove the skill points, remove the customisation of runes and the associated challenges to improve them. I play DOOM to shoot and rip the heads of the enemies off, not to spend my time customising my skills. Even if the RPG component is very minor, it is difficult to ignore it, and it completely slows down the otherwise very nervous pace of the game.

Another minor problem I see is in the glory kills. Glory kills are a major component of the game, and, as said before, a huge source of satisfaction with their gory animations. But I feel here a small flaw in the game design as they are intrinsically static. In fights where you're supposed to move all the time, the paroxysm of the fight is a move that will make your character completely motionless, and expose you (once the animation is done) to the blows of all other enemies. Although people will probably argue that this was intended, I can't help thinking that other solutions could have been found to suggest when to, and when not to do a glory kill.

And finally, the quality of the level design fluctuates a lot. I must confess that the first 10 hours of the game were even somewhat boring for me. The UAC is a series of corridors and rooms that look very similar; orientation shouldn't be too hard but sometimes looking at the map doesn't give a truthful view of the layout. Fortunately, I found the levels taking place in hell much more interesting, with more variety in the setting and wider, open arenas for the fight sequences.

In summary, I consider DOOM to be a very good, unique shooter, that could have been closer to perfection without some game design choices slowing the fun down.

Still an excellent game and a worthy successor to the classics of old.

Good shooter with tons of secrets, but for me shooting to enemies and glory kills got bored in the middle of the game.

The best reinterpretation of the Doom series, the game is very dynamic as the earliest parts of the franchise and added a lot of new things

A very-very nice shooter. It's such a pleasure to move and shoot in this game, that I don't really have anything to nitpick.
Still haven't finished it though as it's the same thing over and over, albeit done well.

DOOM is a classic and for fans of FPS games I would say duty. I played old parts and I consider them great games. I'm talking about one and two now. Then came the three, which caused disappointment in many people, but someone liked it and took it as the best part of the series. I've never played DOOM 3, so I can't say anything about it. I'm talking about one and two now. Then came the three, which caused disappointment in many people, but someone liked it and took it as the best part of the series. I've never played DOOM 3, so I can't say anything about it. There was a silence for a long time, until one day we experienced a hellish return, literally. DOOM is back. No number. No subtitle. Just DOOM. The unadulterated return triggered a positive evaluation in a lot of fans, so I did DOOM, more precisely, to be clear DOOM 2016 had to try as well. Ladies and gentlemen, it was something great. In recent years, perhaps the best return of the series we have ever experienced. The action is great, although it could have been even faster, I thought. Luxury weapons and the graphics ... they were unreal. In addition to all this, a soundtrack by Mick Gordon himself plays into our ears, so the guarantee is guaranteed. The story is here, but quite a bit, for which I am only happy, because DOOM was at least always about the event for me and I never told the story. In addition, there is a smaller minus of the game, because I personally do not think that the story is too good and is mainly predictable. That's my opinion on the story, but as I said, it doesn't play a big role here. I would move on to levels that are great because they take place on Mars, although we will gradually get to hell itself in the game. Our main Doomguy can also improve his weapons here as the game progresses, which just improves the action in the final. I would also like to mention the bosses who were also a luxury. So if you are a fan of the DOOM series, I would not hesitate and take the game. But I would also recommend it to FPS players, because in recent years it is one of the best first-person titles we have received. Expand

Uma aula de como se fazer uma continuação, remake ou/e reboot, as vezes se torna monótono mas é uma grande fonte de divertimento

Meaty multiplayer and a campaign that plays like a sustained electric shock. Eye wateringly fun. [July 2016, p.60]

If you miss Doom, you miss what I anticipate to be one of two most important first person shooters of 2016. The classic returns in great shape, with all its vital elements intact. Give the campaign some time to pick up speed and it will pump your veins full of adrenaline. [07/2016, p.38]

A tribute to Doom that leaps to great heights, but fails to fully stick the landing. [Issue#252, p.60]
