    A masterpiece that ruined singleplayer shooters for me. It improved on every gameplay aspect of Doom 2016 to the absolute extreme.

    Very tight game design that creates incredibly tense and interesting challenges with its varied enemy types. The game is much harder than 2016, but on lower difficulties you can still get the more forgiving mindless carnage. The harder difficulties require    A masterpiece that ruined singleplayer shooters for me. It improved on every gameplay aspect of Doom 2016 to the absolute extreme.

The game is much harder than 2016, but on lower difficulties you can still get the more forgiving mindless carnage. The harder difficulties require from you quick reflexes, quick thinking and managing your resources which create a gameplay loop that is unlike any other.

    Even if the score might say otherwise, the game isn't perfect however. The story is embarrassingly awful, it has pointless platforming sections and some jarring invisible walls.

    But as you can see with the score, those issues don't impact the perfect and revolutionary gunplay which is still the vast majority of the game.    … Expand

    Doom Eternal is an amazing game and massive improvement over Doom 2016 which was bland overrated game. The gun play is smooth and effective not taking away from the clean, exciting movement which is the biggest selling point.

    Fantastic game. It was what the predecessor always should have been. Deep challenging arena shooter with fantastic combat and movement. I also love how this game looks more like original games in modern graphics and less like a painkiller/Doom 3 wannabe like the last game.

    This game destroys 2016 and is best game in the series along with Doom 2. Almost everything about it was a big improvement. I also like how this game is taking the series into more movement based, skill based and Quake like direction.

    This game is a hell of a lot of fun! My only issue is that some of the tutorials hand hold too much. I know they can be disabled but I wish the game didn't reveal how to beat enemies(which aren't even best strategies anyway watch Under the Mayo on being creativity for Doom).

    Bonkers game. I actually didn't like the previous Doom that much and found it really bland and overrated. This game is actually great and fun. The levels a varied, there is huge roster of enemies, movement is great and gun combat is butter smooth.

    Doom Eternal, is the greatest action FPS game of all time. Nothing can top this masterpiece.
    Doom Eternal's soundtrack helps the set the games tone. Mick Gordon really out did himself.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Campaign:

    The Gameplay is a gigantic improvement over DOOM 2016. In DOOM 2016 I felt like I was just shooting enemies until they flashed. In DOOM Eternal, with the new destructible demons mechanic first mentioned at QuakeCon 2018, it tells you (visually) that you are actually dealing damage, and it's oddly satisfying.
    Since there are multiple weapon mods for multiple weapons, you can mix/match them to perfect your playstyle

    The basic core of DOOM Eternal's gameplay is, Flame belch for armor, chainsaw for ammo, and glory kill for health. You have to constantly keep track of these important aspects on your HUD, otherwise you won't make it really far. There's another new mechanic that makes you faster, known as "dashing", this is for avoiding enemy fire or to get out of a danger zone. Keeping track of these statistics and staying on the move will help you survive, a LOT. And by doing so, you will have a lot of fun in this fast-paced action, blood-boiling and adrenaline-fueling game.

    Personally the base-campaign story (not the codex entrys) is kinda "meh" for me, compared to DOOM 2016's. Samuel hayden and VEGA have been overwritten to expository dialogue, and now its just like the whole summary of the story is "it is your people's time now to give penance, just as it was mine" which if you ask me, sounds like a whole lot of demon propaganda.
    Overall the story is up to your interpretation, this was just my view. But you should definitely give the codex entries a read, they're a lot better than most dialogue.

    And as well, in DOOM 2016 you had tons of DOOM guy collectibles, well now every demon has their own collectible (also there's 1 doomslayer collectible) which are really cute toys found around the campaign and you can view the ones you collected in the Fortress of DOOM, for those who like exploring outside the main path to progress.

    Man, don't get me started on the environmentals. In DOOM 2016 and also the previous games, we were only really set in mars and hell. I'm glad ID Software decided to flesh out the environments some more, and maps like Urdak are stunning, because Mars and Hell were getting pretty stale (this includes dlc environments too), and I'm so glad because we actually get to visit places we've never been before in a DOOM game.

    They even decided to bring the old art style of old enemies, such as the soldier / shield soldier, which I'm glad they did. I was not a fan of DOOM 2016's enemy design at all. Thanks again ID.

    Multiplayer:
    Overall, DOOM 2016's multiplayer had a lot more variety. Such as team deathmatch and various other modes.Compared to DOOM Eternal with battlemode being the only (current) multiplayer mode, I doubt DOOM Eternal's community side will live long, it's the only mode and it's just a mode with 2 player demons vs 1 slayer. And a lot of people are REALLY waiting on Invasion, which was announced that it would be at launch but it was unfortunately delayed because of COVID (correct me if I'm wrong).
    And with the removal of snapmap, a god-like map editing and ai-implementing system (similar to Halo's FORGE mode), the community can't really share their own content. Which is unfortunate, but man, just the thought of how big maps could be, COOP, etc. The possibilities would've been limitless. Especially when you compare a DOOM Eternal campaign map size to 2016's.

    Campaign DLC (Story) (SPOILERS AHEAD):

    Man, those endings (of both dlc 1 and 2) were some plot-twists. Personally I liked what DLC 1 had going as VEGA being the father because he was your homie the past 2 games, and now in DLC 2 it's just a "Davoth (Satan) is God" kind of thing. Which is weird but, ID you do you. Like I said before, it's all just personal preference.
    The gameplay was extended even further beyond, especially with the Hellbreaker (betrayer's axe) and more enemies (though most were just reskinned enemies with different abilities, like the chaingunner being brought back (reskin of shield soldier), and other odd enemies such as the turret.
    It's even more adrenaline-fueling when you're playing the DLC's for the first time, because new enemies such as the spirit are gonna make you go on an acid trip.

    The singleplayer experience of this game makes it worth the $60    … Expand

    Distinctive Combat Style and Remarkable levels filled with hand-crafted arenas. The closest Quake/Unreal tournament grindset you can ever get in 2020 plus incredible art style, sound design and oh man how I should describle the soundtrack. This is the most overlooked game in 2020. Super contender for GOTY instead of TLOU2.

    In my opinion this game is the best game in the DOOM saga. his forte is combat, the most frenetic in the history of these mythical games. but, although DOOM has never had much of a history, this title is responsible for closing several gion holes caused by DOOM 2016. people say that the marauder is very hard to kill but that's the fun, the marauder is an enemy just like you.

    Best shooter ever. The parkour system and the collectibles are very good. The graphics and optimization are awesome. Just one thing is bad and thi one is the game is too long. I am very bored last 3 hours. But other things are very good.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was really considering giving this game a 9 because of my personal preferences, however, I decided not to. This game is, I kid you not, probably the best game I've ever played, apart from Halo 3 or Dark Souls.

    First of all, the game play. The game play is ABSOLUTELY the best part of this game. In the 2016 DooM, the plasma rifle and the rocket launcher felt sort of... Just unlikable to me. Not in DooM Eternal, though! In DooM Eternal every single gun, every single weapon feels amazing to use. The Combat Shotgun at the start of the game is a lot weaker than the one in 2016, where you could shoot an imp in the foot and he would stagger, in this game you're required to get actual good shots on the demons, usually it's just a chest shot and a foot shot for a stagger, but that's 2 shots, out of like 15 shots at the start of the game. I'll skip most of the other weapons and just say that they are WAY weaker than their versions in DooM 2016, however I believe that's a good thing, as it makes you rely on your chainsaw a lot more, which is back again with some of the most satisfying and best kill animations in the game. There are of course, other weapons. The first other weapon you'll get is the grenade, which, unlike in DooM 2016, is far more required. The other weapon is the freeze grenade, this just freezes demon and I honestly just like it a lot. One of the last weapons you get is the Crucible, I love this thing. I love how rare the... Ammo? For it is, and how powerful, quick and strong it is. You've probably noticed a theme in this review of gameplay, which is that the ammo is a lot more scarce and guns are worse in terms of damage, which I think is a good thing. This isn't like DooM 2016, where the game gives you a power fantasy, in DooM Eternal, you earn the power fantasy. DooM Eternal is a lot more difficult, requiring better aim, precision and reflexes and it requires you to switch weapons in order to survive, and I've noticed that A LOT of people hate that, and I can see their point, but I personally love it. This isn't an easy game, it's very difficult, if you don't like that, then don't get it.

    Next, the enemies in the game. They're just amazing, but I mainly want to talk about the Marauder, because he has caused a lot of controversy, but I will TRY to explain why I think he's one of, if not the best demon in DooM Eternal. First, lets talk about his move set, it seems easy to learn, but it's super hard to master. He has a close range shotgun, a middle range attack that flashes green for a bit, and a long range axe swing. One thing that a lot of people don't notice, is that he doesn't just use his flashing attack at mid range, he uses it after he becomes an Olympic runner and runs up to you. He can do that at any range, mid range is simply the most likely. He is the enemy that effectively turns the game into a horror game when you turn around and see him. Also, something a lot of people don't seem to do, is attack after you do a partial stagger after his flashing attack, see, if you successfully hit him with something like a shotgun, he goes back for a second, this lets you use a variety of attacks, a sticky bomb, grenade launcher, but I like to use the Ballista. So, to deal double damage to him, hit him with a super shotgun, then quickly follow with a Ballista.

    Next, the story.
    Just don't. I'll admit this game tries way harder than DooM 2016 with the story, but it sort of fails. But while it did fail, why are you playing DooM for the story? This is a man who says "Rip and tear your guts! You are huge! That means you have huge guts! RIP AND TEAR!" If you don't like the story, hold down R.

    Next, the graphics.
    This game has stunning graphics, and it runs very well, too. Although it is kind of annoying that the texture filtering is apparently so detrimental to the game, I mean, I've never had it above like the second highest setting, and this is on a RTX 2060 on 2560x1440. To summarize, graphics are very good.

    Finally, I have to address many of the games complaints. 1st, the guns. This game does NOT force you to use any guns, you have a choice, use the effective weapon, or the one that's ineffective. This is something called difficulty and challenge. If you don't want that, and want to use the shotgun for every single enemy, even the Doom Hunters, good luck. This isn't an easy game, for gods sake, stop thinking it is, if you want it to be, turn the difficulty down! 2nd, the platforming. Oh boy... Why do people hate it?! It's great, there's honestly not much of it, especially not in the later levels, and even though there is quite a few of them at the start, it's fun! 3rd, the puzzles. I'll agree with this claim, I don't really like them. They're easy, however they are quick, easy and honestly more of a nuisance.

    To conclude, this game is not easy, especially on harder difficulties. This game is hard, the end.

    I really enjoyed doom 2016 and I was extremely excited for doom eternal. It did not disappoint. It was fun from starting the first level to the final boss fight. If you just wanted to have mindless fun. This isn't for you. It requires to change your strategy if the way you are playing isn't work. It forces to become better. The ammo management is a very good design choice in my opinion.I really enjoyed doom 2016 and I was extremely excited for doom eternal. It did not disappoint. It changes it up from doom 2016 where you almost never needed to think about ammo, That's the main thing going for this game. You need to fully think about your approach to it. You need to be open to facing difficulty. The marauder is good example. He was difficult my first time fighting him. But once I realized I can't just go in and expecting to pump several double barrel shotgun shoots in his face I got through it. Instead of pumping a few shots in the mancubus with the double barrel like the doom 2016. It's smart to first freeze him, use the sticky bombs to disable his flame thrower and then pump several shots into him. It's way more fun to traverse around the arena. Such as the yellow pipes you can use it to move around and then use the meat hook to grapple your way to an imp and then proceed to use the chainsaw. I also generally believe it the level design is way better than doom 2016. Overall an extremely fun entry into the series. I would totally recommend.… Expand

After playing the campaign completely there was almost no bugs except the full-auto shotgun mod crashing the game. It gives a challenge when you have to get ammo, health and armor pretty frequently.     Previous game was just bland, boring and ovehyped imo. This game pretty much fixed all the issues I had. Every level is unique, combat has lightyears more depth, more enemy variety, better weapon mods, better movement, story is more fun, etc.. This game just objectively crushes the previous by far.

    Extremly fun! Don't worry about the difficulty. This game has the most difficulty options I ever saw in a game. You can make it really easy if you want.

While it isn't bad, it feels like it slows the motion or cuts the flow. I expected the game to be longer too, the ending was quite disappointing.     This game's gameplay is way better than 2016's. Even if i'm partial to 2016's visuals aesthetically, Eternal is basically 2016 for thinking men. If you go and decide to explore deeply the mechanics and the nooks and crannies of the game, you will realize how much of a improvement it is. After you do that, the true Doom Eternal shows its face. Doom Eternal, by contrast, cranks up the insanity factor which makes it seem closer to the Classic Dooms that were made to be abstract and goofy.

    The plot probably won't win any writing awards, but it serves the purpose well enough and it was interesting to hear what the Doom Slayer actually sounds like. VEGA is always a delight to listen to, and you can always skip most of the cutscenes if you really want to just get into the action. The little nods and winks to Classic Dooms, including being able to play Dooms 1 and 2 on the Slayer's retro PC, were also very nice touches.

    Overall, a surprisingly nice upgrade over Doom 2016, even if it doesn't always hit every mark perfectly.    … Expand

    I found Doom 2016 to be very bland, repetitive and extremely overrated but this game is pretty large improvement. Its one of my fav all time shooters. Its like mix of old god of war and quake.

With more guns than reasons to care if that Imp had a family, It throws you feet first into Hell with several weapons that make and break the Geneva Convention and a sony walkman playing the greatest soundtrack and most adrenaline-inducing soundtrack that has come with any game ever, God speed Mick Gordon you absolute musical genius.

    The Music alone is enough to make anyone fall in love with this game faster than a mother with her newborn baby. The guitar riffs are actually him revving a chainsaw with a heavy metal choir to accompany it what more could you ask for when you are causing a demon genocide? I could go on longer than my erection I get while playing this game lasts about this absolutely amazing soundtrack. Not only smashing DOOM 2016's soundtrack into the Clark belt but also jettisoning every other game and its pitiful soundtrack into the neighbouring solar system. You can catch me listening to this while doing my laundry, cleaning my room, driving to work, Am I listening to this soundtrack while writing this? yes, how could you tell?

    Diving into the Gameplay, everything is perfectly balanced into this rhythmic dance you play out while you decimate entire continents of hell, juggling your health, ammo and armour asking an intimidating amount of skill. Yet once mastered? You feel like God himself and its time to bring divine judgment on these sinful beings. Not only does Doom Eternals gameplay have so many new and amazing upgrades from DOOM 2016 but it feels so fresh while doing so. This game, it's breathtaking, sweeping the floor with how amazing a single-player experience can be. Doom guy is the equivalent of a rage fulled, weaponized ballerina while manages to not only wipe out a few demons' bloodlines, but feel amazing doing so. Doom Eternal is in a league of its own and gameplay-wise one of the best, most fluent and amazing feeling shooters to be released to date.

    In conclusion, buy this game, you won't regret a cent spent on it and get the power fantasy your inner badass so desperately desires.    … Expand

    Doom Eternal is an FPS that forces you to play the way it wants you to play because it knows that's where you'll have the most fun, I think ID Software achieved something that games rarely do now. They made rules to how you play the game and how you are suppose to approach encounters so what they really did is they took some of the control away from the player.     This soundtrack is in no way inferior to the previous compositions of the old parts, it also blends wonderfully with the gameplay of the game. The plot seems not important in this game, but even I liked it a little.

    Doom Eternal seems is a worthy successor of the legendary 2016 game and franchise. Glory kills are so brutal and over top so fun. Dash, weakpoints and shotgun hook is sooo fun. Had a great time ripping and tearing. Simply brilliant.

    The game is great but I am just here to laugh at the troll tier brain rot negative reviews. Game has jumping therefore bad is all the negative reviews you see ignoring the game is still 70% balls to the wall combat. Maybe Quake and Titanfall are bad games because of jumping according to these people or maybe they never heard the term movement arena shooters before or maybe they forgot DoomThe game is great but I am just here to laugh at the troll tier brain rot negative reviews. One guy even said he dead more in Eternal from platforming which is laughable because that means they had to repeatedly fail a straight forward platforming section that even a 5 year old can complete 30 times before they lost all the health and dead lol. I also got more Warhammer or Quake gothic vibes from levels which was great. I would give it 8.5 but on Metacritic you have to give a non decimal number so I give it a 9.… Expand

    Just buy it. Unless you don't like euphoric displays of the most satisfying combat and movement interspersed with beautiful visuals and fascinating lore. This game is a masterpiece by every possible factor.

    I really like the gameplay, immersive experience, nice graphics. Single player campaign mode is really good and intuitive. Only drawback is official multiplayer is doodoo.

    If you're looking for a deep and thought-provoking gaming experience that changes your outlook on life, look elsewhere. However, if you want a fast-paced, visceral shooter full of non-stop action and outrageous violence, you can't do better than Doom Eternal. If you liked 2016's offering you will love this follow up. It's a hell of a good time.

    Like Jason Statham’s character in Crank, Doom Eternal needs adrenaline every waking second. So long as you drown hordes of demons in their own blood, it feels like a perfect GOTY contender, but during quiet moments, Doom Eternal withers and forces you to ponder unpleasant questions. id Software needs to course-correct, otherwise we’ll be playing Super Doom Slayer’s Bros in a few years.
