Well, Doom 2016 was an incredible game. This game feels like a clone of it with arcade.

Horrible boss fights. Also for the game that forces you to swap weapons - it's so inconvenient to do so.

Doom guy is slower and half the weapons are useless.

Multi-player is kind of a joke.

It's a beautiful mixture of explosive mayhem and elegant coordination resulting in a game that stands out. The primary focus of the game lies of course in the campaign. When it comes to gameplay, it refines the already great combat from Doom (2016) with some added features. You still run and gun with immense traversal features at your disposal.
Many weapons from the previous game return, like the combat shotgun and the insanely powerful ballista, but a hand of new ones introduces themselves. Amongst the arsenal lies the plasma rifle and the Unmaykr, a holy weapon using bfg ammo to annihilate any species coming in its way, which can only be accessed by completing the Slayer Gates. But not only that, onto the super shotgun is now introduced a grappling hook, allowing for fast movement by attaching yourself to enemies, which makes the already fast gameplay even faster.
Adding to all this is new enemy types as well, which allows for more intense encounters. Many classic enemies from previous Doom games make a return, like the basic soldier, the flying Pain Elemental and the daunting Arch-Vile, while new ones also debut, like the shield creating Carcass, fast paced Dread Knight and snake sounding Whiplash. All enemies from Doom (2016) make a return (with even a mini version of the Cyberdemon and the Spider Mastermind), except for the Summoner. Boss encounters introduces even more enemies. The Doomhunter is a power house, consisting of cybeorg technology and a lot of health to make your day worse, which later becomes a common enemy through the game. The one stage bossfights test your skills to the action, resulting in intense one on one fights. However, the enemy that stands out the most is the Marauder. Representing your counterpart, the Marauder moves fast, deals heavy damage and can block any attack you launch at him. It is only when his eyes flash green and he goes in for an attack that he is vulnerable to your strength. His design shuts down the player's ego, resulting in an enemy in need of total focus to defeat, almost remeniscing a martial arts fight between two masters. He works different to all other common enemies in the game, working as a building stone to defining you as a master at the game, almost how main characters in movies meet an enemy that punches them to the ground. Through pain and sheer perserverance, you learn to fight him like all other enemies, and he becomes an incredible part of the roster.
All of these factors result in a combat experience much faster, more aggressive and more brutal. The game also intesnifies its difficulty. Simple punches of enemies is not going to do the trick (unless you use a blood punch), so focus lies on the arsenal. Since new gameplay options are introduced, the level design has to compliment the speed, and here the game definitely delivers. The only gripe with the design (which aslo lies in most FPS games) is that you sometimes get stcuk on an enemy, and in a game like this you do not want to stand still and lose a lot of health. Outside of that, the developers did an amazing job. The art direction is supreme, with every level and place feeling huge and marvelous, inciting magic to every location the game takes you to, which also is helped by the insane graphics elevating these destinations to beyond epic boundaries. The soundtrack has a return from composer Mick Gordon, rocking out even more than the last game, thanks to incorporating more groovy guitar riffs, heavy techno filters and introducing a heavy metal choir(!) to help the grand scope of the game's aesthetic. Mick Gordon has knocked ot out of the park one's again. As to story, the game has a big adventure, but much of the information lies in codex entries scattered around the levels, and what is shown is either hard to follow (unless you've read the codexes) or uniteresting. While the story has some bright spots, it could've used some more cooking in the oven, since the game focuses som much on the plot.
Outside of the singleplayer campaign is also a multiplayer, introducing battlemode: A game mode where one person plays as the Slayer, while two other people control one demon each, creating a 2 VS 1 experience. The multiplayer is entertaining and refershing, reflecting the intense gameplay of the singleplayer, and surprisingly balanced, but it's missing a vast erray of optional game modes to keep the fanbase engaged in the gameplay. If Battlemode was introduced along side classic game modes, like team deathmatch adn capture the flag, the multiplayer would be better off and even more emphazised by the players, but I can still see a community building around the multiplayer.
All in all, you definitely get your bang for your buck with Doom Eternal. This is a secure purchase to anyone who is a fan of the first person shooter genre. Rip and tear until it is done!

However, in the new Duma there are several things that I have a complaint about. First, there are endless hints. As soon as you meet a new serious opponent, the game tells you how to kill him. WHAT??? WHAT FOR??? Shouldn't the player figure out the best way to kill the monster? But it's okay ... THE BOSS IS THE SAME! The game tells you how to defeat the BOSS! There is no excuse - the game keeps you like an idiot. And the second complaint is filing. If the last part was like science fiction, then this one looks like a fairy tale. We find the weapon floating in the air (in the previous part, we took it from the dead soldiers), everywhere there are some fire chains, like in Mario, and you can continue indefinitely. It looks somehow inappropriate for me, strange ... But nagging can be found in almost any game, and what I have listed is not very significant, in comparison with the coolest dynamic gameplay Expand

The new ways of movement make the platforming especially easy and forgiving since you do not die when you fall. I love how the boring method of combat by using only using one gun, like in DOOM 2016, is obsolete. The game encourages you to play in unique and and creative ways because of how different each enemy plays. Weapon switch combos are a thing glory because the game rewards the player for managing their ammo economy well. This is an experience best played on mouse and keyboard because of how fast you have to react to chaotic situations. The is also noticeably more brighter than 2016. I think this is a good change because you can more clearly see enemies, health drops, or ammo. It would be unfair if arenas were took dark and you got killed because you could not see a particular enemy.

My favorite demon to fight is the marauder because you cannot engage him like other demons. Weapon switch combos are mandatory against him and a skilled player who knows the game well can cheese the marauder a matter of seconds. Like all the other demons, the marauder is smart, he won't just charge at you blindly and swing his axe around like a mad man. He wish dash around and punish the player for getting too close.

BATTLEMODE is also really fun because it bring the Slayer experience to multiplayer. This unique 2v1 game mode promotes cooperation between the demon players while they try to out smart and trap the Slayer. No demon player can brute force against a Slayer. I love it when a game discourages the easy and obvious route to success. I wish more game developers adopted this concept into their games.

There is also a fantastic modding scene who create new and interesting ways to play. A horde mode mod and custom master levels were create to appease the most skillful of players.

For those complaining about the cut scenes, just hold R, you can skip them.

Doom Eternal is a kinetic first person shooter that shows just how fun a video game can be. A Solid 9/10, and was very close to a 10 for me, but, for all the praise, it has flaws.
    Gameplay
The gameplay is simple, with the Doom Slayer reacting in the way you expect and all times, every mechanic is simple: do this, and get an output. Yet the chaotic fast paced shooting quickly becomes complex and methodical. Every simple idea gets compounded one, after another, after another, each is explained but it takes the entire campaign to truly understand the mechanics that are given to you. The game is brilliantly paced. Abilities you learned at earlier levels you find yourself using more and more with other abilities later in game, finding synergies amongst your equipment. The game gives exponentially more options, making each combat encounter having thousands to millions of ways to approach. Whether going for a weak point on a big enemy, or ridding a entire area of smaller ones, the gameplay keeps the interactions between you and demons interesting with the game giving you so many ways to approach, you truly adapt to the game and learn it through and through.
    Design
The Design of the game is made to be fast,. The faster you are the less likely you are you get trapped or hit. This incentivisation of quick reaction gameplay keeps the player on their toes. The genius decision by the Devs to give every enemy you encounter a certain weakness makes switching your arsenal frequent and engaging. The gameplay keeps itself fresh as you constantly have to change your approach from demon to demon. The designs of the different enemies are distinct, and with how fast you move, a glance and you know what is over in that direction. Every enemy is engaging, with all of them having attacks which you can take advantage of, and each one being fun to engage with in combat. (except for one, we will get there)
    Lore
For having no story, the game has surprising amounts of lore, which can be accessed at any time through the pause menu. The amount of lore you have depends on where you are in the game. I found this system enhanced the experience, and made the game an interesting story experience as well as a gameplay one which doesn’t intrude on repeat play-thrus, which I feel is the perfect balance between the two concepts.
Multiplayer: The multiplayer, After the feedback from the first game (Doom (2016)) that the death match mechanics did not match the original game, the developers created one, if not the most creative multiplayer experiences to date. It’s a 1 V 2, with the one being the Doom Slayer himself. The other two being two of the tougher demons, which can spawn underlines, which effectively make an ever adapting assault against the doom slayer in a quick matched arena battle. The multiplayer does have a few glitches to do with the demons being pushed out of the map when spawning, but shortly after they are transported back to their spawn, this can be jarring, but isn't game breaking.
    Flaws
The game does come with previously mentioned bugs. I ran into a soft lock, as well as some overly hard to get to collectibles, but other then that, the biggest flaw comes in the form of the enemy which stops the game in its tracks every time they appear, causing the player to stand still and simply wait for them to attack, this is The Marauder.
Marauder: Unlike all of the other demons, this one can not be killed normally. Whenever it is shot it will resist any damage by pulling up a shield, the marauder can not be faked out or tricked, they will never miss a block. If you get too aggressive and get to close the Marauder attacks instantaneously. If you are too far away they throw projectiles and adds, And the middle ground seems to fluctuate wildly. (which is the only time the Marauder will be able to be hit) The only time you can attack is then the Marauder does their axe attack, which draws the entire game to a halt because it’s random if the marauder is going to. The Marauder is the most annoying part of the game, and is by far the most flawed. (The funny thing is, Marauders are playable in multiplayer, and are fixed. They don’t have shields, and their best defense is movement, meaning you have to predict where they are going to be, which in turn, keeps the Marauder engaging to fight unlike in the actual game.)
OverAll I enjoyed my time with immensely, it’s a strong 9/10 , with the down moments being frustrating, but the highs being so energetic and befitting for one of the best games of the year.

This whole game feels like DLC, which is to say the story is very pat and thin while maintaining an air of fullness and profundity. The gameplay isn't bad, but is a step back from the previous game. Simplicity gave way to needless complexity. Predictably, Betheseda let greatness give way to mediocrity.

Plants and animals that are blasted with this type of noise get sick or crazy at a much higher level than no music, you are no different. At least Doom 3 had a creepy aliens type of story. This is just much more realistic gory space invaders level stuff. Refunded.

It has set the standard for future DOOM titles. If I had to give this game a definitive score right away, it would be a 10/10 based on the gameplay and Mick Gordon's excellent soundtrack. The main campaign's story is okay. There are some big reveals, unnecessary retcons from 2016, and unexplained time-skips. And frustratingly, there is no explanation whatsoever to bridge the gaps either. So we can only hope Id Software feels compelled to share with us how the Doom Slayer got to where he is at the start of this game.

With that said, let me elaborate on the things I didn't like about this game. Let's start with the visual direction of DOOM Eternal, which I don't like. It's not on the same level as DOOM 2016, which had a refreshingly gritty and cinematic feel to it. Every level in 2016 had its own unique lighting in different areas of the level. It felt handcrafted and organic. In comparison, DOOM Eternal feels very inorganic and bland with the monotone global illumination setting for the entire map, across all levels. Some of the interior lighting looks good, but it doesn't measure up to DOOM 2016. And it doesn't matter if you play it on ULTRA NIGHTMARE graphical settings because the global illumination methods used in this game make everything look bright and saturated. Fortunately, it can be mitigated by downloading the 'Doom Eternal DeLighter' mod from Nexusmods. However, the lighting itself isn't as beautiful as DOOM 2016's, which means the result is still disappointing, if slightly less.

The weird 8-bit platforming in this game is excessive and immersion breaking. The Cultist Base level has some of the most nonsensical 8-bit platforming I've seen to date. It feels like something 10-year-old children would enjoy. It's the same with gore kills as well. They feel more cartoonish than brutal. I heard Hugo Martin decided to go this route so that his children can play the game. Fair enough, I suppose. It's just not for me.

"Attack only when their eyes glow green" enemies and bosses in this game are a cheap gimmick passed off as "well-designed enemies requiring your immediate attention." No, they're cheap gimmicks and nothing more. It's not about the difficulty, it's about the enemy design. If the Marauder is a "well-designed" enemy, why can't we use the Marauder's shield ability in the Multiplayer mode? Because it is stupidly imbalanced, and Id Software couldn't justify its use in multiplayer.

My final rating for this game is 7.5/10. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. DOOM 2016 was a more satisfying experience for me. DOOM Eternal's gameplay and Mick Gordon's new soundtrack are fantastic, but for every two steps forward they've also taken a step back.

Like Jason Statham’s character in Crank, Doom Eternal needs adrenaline every waking second. So long as you drown hordes of demons in their own blood, it feels like a perfect GOTY contender, but during quiet moments, Doom Eternal withers and forces you to ponder unpleasant questions. id Software needs to course-correct, otherwise we’ll be playing Super Doom Slayer’s Bros in a few years.
