I'm here to tell you that even normal is no good. The story is paper thin and so incredibly generic you'd think it fanfiction if you weren't actually living it. Sure the gameplay is solid and the graphics are ok but that's not what this is all about. The vast majority of people who bought this game didn't buy it to give a quick once through and like I said even that is a pretty piss poor experience. Now let's get to what makes this game truly terrible. The end game content, there is none. You will find yourself looping the same routes over and over and over for hundreds maybe thousands of hours to one pointless end, obtaining gear. Well guess what, even the gear in this game is god awful. It's dumbed down and 99% of every single thing that drops is worthless trash. Even the legendaries and sets are lackluster. Now let's talk about the auction house and it's truly terrible effect on the game. Because of the auction houses existence, there are gold botters and because of gold botters gold is absolutely worthless. No amount of in game farming will yield you enough gold to compare to people who can just throw down cash. In fact the balance is so in favor of this that the price of crafting certain items and even removing some gems from sockets is a reflection of this. Simply put, this game is a let down. It has no style, no substance, no depth, it's just a glorified sixty dollar arcade game. Expand

Certainly not the game it should have been. Ridiculously toned down and made overly simple and linear for the masses, released on consoles. Made worse by the original director Jay Wilson's retarded behaviour on social media where he attacked Diablo II players.

Well I created a barbarian character. It felt great at the beginning I walked around and killed all the monsters, the visuals were great.... except... once I started to level up, the skill tree (if you can call it a tree) has proved to be useless and pointless. I was killing things better with the basic abilities.
Once all the hype settled in I started to feel like a moron sitting near computer pressing the same mouse buttons and keyboard keys 1,2,3,4 without any strategy whatsoever. You can be brain dead to play this game there is no thinking required at all.

Simply said the game has no depth.

Probably would be a good game for a cell phone...

It even comes with a challenge, beat the login server, error 37 is the prime evil, if you beat it, all will obey your orders.

It's an extremely stripped down and dumbed down version of Diablo 2. I suspect the game was purposely made the way it is so they could make money off the real money auction house. I suspect the game was purposely made the way it is so they could make money off the real money auction house. The fact that you are required to be online on their servers 100% of the time was just a terrible idea. It's very painful to see a series I loved so much to be ruined by moments of server lag, outages and mid-game disconnects. It really ruins the story aspect of the game when you're fighting Diablo for the first time and just before you kill him you get disconnected from the server. People were giving advice and begging for the better part of a year on the beta forums for small changes to be made and were completely ignored. The game was actually more complex back then and they ended up stripping it down to make it easier to play to the general audience. Only very small amounts of the game are randomized now. Most outdoor areas and dungeons are 95% similar every time you go through them.

The gear is just terribly done. Played through the game till act 3 of hell before I found a single unique (still no set items) and I was happy that it was a fist weapon for my monk. It was junk and I sold it at auction for cheap. Rare items drop very frequently and often are much better than the best set or unique items.

The boss monsters are jokes. Really. With a decent build and life steal as a monk you can stand and just punch Diablo in hell mode and you will rarely see your health dip below 80%. Meanwhile the elite mobs in act 1 will tear you apart before you can attack them.

I haven't played enough to really say anything about the balance issues in inferno or with other classes, so I'm not going to comment on that.

All being said, the game IS fun. $60 fun? Not really. As a successor to Diablo 2? Mediocre at best. Ignoring how much 'effort' they put into the whole game hub with the auction house, the game feels like a $20 indie game you'd find on Steam that you'd seriously consider buying but then would decide to wait until it was on sale for at least 33% off.

Too "streamlined." A.k.a casualisation to try and appeal to the lowest common denominator, giving them no credit whatsoever, I like to think people are smarter than this Blizzard. -4/10
The story. More lolcorruption from Blizzard, with Metzen setting up a redemption apparently, how original. Also ANGEL SOUL RAID END. -5/10
Diablo looks like an anorexic Balrog now. Why? He's always looked muscular and RED, not skinny and black. -6/10 Some of the cut-scenes looked pretty. -5/10

Overall I'm very disappointed with this, it hasn't improved over Diablo 2 in any respect and it's been over a decade since then. Perhaps I'm being overly critical because of this fact, but even then Diablo 2 was never that great. I still have faith in Blizzard, or want to have it, but with WoW since Wrath, SC2 and now this...
I hope that Titan blows me away and restores my faith.

60 dollars for a broken log-in screen. Blizzard knows what kind of hardware they need to keep the servers up but simply chose to save money and wait for server populations to settle. I have always been weary about this kind of always online DRM but chose to forego my better judgement and purchase the game anyways. Keep this kind of DRM out of single-player games.

Most everything has been simplified and randomized to such an extent that nearly no drops you get are good, almost forcing you to go to the in-game auction house which completely nullifies the purpose of a dungeon crawler in the first place. Diablo 2 was about grinding for loot, slowly getting better and more exciting items. Diablo 3 has no exciting items and you rarely find anything better than what the AH has to offer. Your best bet is to just grind gold and spend it on the market. They made a game with features completely contradictory of its purpose, which is very sad indeed.

Is it a bad game? Not per se. Combat is fun once you get to Inferno and enemies finally are difficulty, but then again you have to grind through the same content 3 times before you get there which is simply not worth it. Class design is quite good, the classes feel unique and complete, but again you only get to feel that in Inferno. They just borked this game completely, so many bad decisions must have taken place during the development of the game.

Other points of interest: Despite big names voice acting is mostly horrid, but I'd wager that the god awful script is at fault here. Not easy to perform when the material you have sucks. The story is so predictable and generic that at no point during the game was it a surprise when **** turned into *****. No epic twist, no interesting storytelling. Blizzard dropped the ball monumentally on this game which is nothing but an utter shame.

There is no point in having more than one of each class because skills aren't built up and you don't place stat points, everyone has the exact same everything. Even when picking stats on gear it's pretty much a no-brainer. I've paid far less for games that I've enjoyed much more, but the first few playthroughs especially if you play hardcore can be quite entertaining. There's something wrong when Blizzard is shipping a game that's not finished. The moment I got into the beta, I was underwhelmed. The graphics were blurry; my character and foes alike lacked detail. I know Blizzard strives to have games run on all machines, but Diablo 3 looks worse than Titan Quest, which is a much older game (with a map editor.)

I thought the constant achievements were stupid, but to each his own.

I can put this to the back of my mind, but now the game is out and I can't even play because Blizzard's servers are down for routine maintenance. When it is up, I disconnect often and generally have 1-3 seconds of lag ( I don't have the best internet.) My girlfriend has been complaining that the game keeps failing to save her progress.

Somehow I forgave them for doing this to Starcraft II, partly because I don't lag on it, but now I've had enough. This new Blizzard doesn't have the magic that the earlier generation possessed, and they can't make up for (I'm assuming/hoping) Activision's horrible decisions. I realize a good deal of my problems are technical, and some may be sorted out later, but I didn't buy the game later. I pre-ordered it. If this was some small indie developer doing a kickstarter, I wouldn't mind. But this is one of the biggest, most funded AAA developers in the industry. This game isn't worth 60 dollars to me.

The grafics are not so good, the gameplay is kinda dead, you must play online for singleplayer, there are lags all the time, the game does not last so much, and so on .And if all that was not enough, there is a marketplace with real money, so you must pay more money to get the good stuff, since the game itself dont give you much rare/good itens...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not a Diablo game, I have played to diablo 1 & 2 and this one is not one of them ! First big deception (when i logged on...) no customisation ! I cannot spend my ability point or chose my spell. My barb will be like all the other barb, and when i hear the fan-boy saying «the customisation is in your game play !» i only want to downvote it more because they remember me that if you dont have a internet connection you cant play. Diablo was based on two pillar: customisation of your character (d1&d2) and grim, dark and unholy atmosphere, which i dont see here. And the weapons, ... the weapons... 3/4 of them are unique to a class and you cant take them (and a special comment about the ones you can take, like an axe, with the witchdoctor or the mage its USELESS, you have your 2 'mouse spell' and thats it) .And one last things, the potion, when i want to use a potion its NOW, not in 30 sec. .Of course, overall, its not an awful game, the graphics are decent (even if they are childish and colorfull) and they put more effort on the story through dialogue and background then d1 & d2. Its playable but its not a Diablo-like game, Blizzard dilute it too much to reach the new gamers, its a idiot-proof game, no chance that you could make a mistake and learn or try somethings new, in one word, have fun. If Blizzard had call it 'Not-diablo title' i could gave them a 6 or a 7. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been playing Blizzard games since Warcraft 1 and was absolutely fascinated by Diablo when it was first released all those years ago. My Warrior and Sorcerer were unstoppable in the pits of Hell. I looked forward to the weekends when I could play until my eyes practically bled (10 - 15 hours a day). Diablo 2 came out and for the most part was a great successor in the mighty Diablo franchise. With the addition of multiplayer, new graphics, more choices, etc the game made it worth your time to sink hours and hours into it. I will say that Diablo 2 will never be as good as Diablo 1 as far as ingenuity and fun factor, however Diablo 2 did take a lot of what made the first one so great and either keep it or attempt to expand on it.
Now, on to Diablo 3.. this game takes everything that the original had, laughs at it, spits on it, and runs away as fast as it can. The first big cripple to this once mighty franchise is the lack of customization of skill points. While I can appreciate the need to simplify a game or make it more approachable, it doesn't need to be THAT simple. Customization should be a key thing in an RPG and not being able to select where my skill points goes is a major negative. Let's look at the abilities side of things. While I appreciate the simplistic approach I again have to disagree with it's execution. Basically, (literally basic) you level up, you get a new ability every few levels (like an RPG should do), but the new method of "customizing" is based on runes that open at different levels. No more finding scolls or tomes to make that Fireball cooler or having a rare skill set hidden somewhere in the depths of the Inferno of Act 4 rewarding only the most stalwart of players. Nope, we just get to pansy along and at each level we're rewarded. Fine. I'm still in, just because I want to see Diablo die to my blade. BUT, I ASK YOU THIS ONE QUESTION. WHAT'S THE POINT OF CONTINUING ON INTO NIGHTMARE, HELL, OR INFERNO MODE if you basically get to see all the skills by level 35? Yes, I agree that there is some variation, but there's no real "omg I need to move forward into these harder modes to get more spells or abilities" motivation. I liked leveling up my fireball or my ice orb and making it more rock star as I got farther in. I liked being able to put points into things to customize my character. Ever have a Firewall sorceress in Diablo 2 with max amount of plus damage fire runes? Yeah, good times. So much less customization in this game.
The graphics are another thing that I wish they would've retooled just a little bit! I do have to say I am not against the artsy direction they went, but for me it's not what I wanted to see. We have 1080p LED screens and HDMI outputs putting out some of the best quality that's ever been seen, and yet Diablo 3 utilizes none of this. I understand the need to appeal to the masses they may not be able to afford the latest and greatest, but at the very least I would think you'd have built in an option for those of us who can. My 4 year old notebook can play this game at almost max resolution. Meh. I personally feel that Blizzard took so long to make this game that they were to far entrenched into what they're were producing that when the new technologies started to come out (within the past 2 years) they were unable to reverse tracks an adapt it in. Just very poor timing on starting and finishing the game.
Then there is this unfortunate thing called DRM. Why does someone playing a once acceptable solo game have to be online? I do enjoy the multiplayer aspect of the game, please don't get me wrong, however I could easily have clicked a button that said "This character is being made offline and will never be available for Battle.net play. Do you accept?" YES! Now, I want to play online? Cool, me and my friends will start new characters and progress together. Seriously, how many people only have one character? Just saying... even more so the point is when the servers are down for maintenance, wouldn't Blizzard rather have us dinking around on our offline accounts rather than playing something else? In fact, that is exactly what happened. While I was waiting for the servers to fix themselves during launch (which was a nightmare, but I'm not using that to base my overall score.), I had been invited into the TL2 beta. I spent several hours checking out that game. Honestly, it wouldn't of even happened if I had been too busy hacking and slashing my away across solo play ON MY COMPUTER. Not on your damn servers.
The music is great, but so what? Yay! I can listen to sweet background music and great voice overs while I sit here and muddle through the same campaign/storyline 4 times. Whoop de freaking do. The only huge plus to this game is that it is Diablo and I will always love the universe and fighting the demons of Hell. The game has some amazing cut scenes and is still worth buying

Pay-to-win auction house. Art style diverges greatly from the other products in the series, and adopts the now tired toony style a'la World of Warcraft. Time to complete is rather short for a game with limited replay value. Music score is bland.

    ----Good----
Hardcore mode is fantastic: rewarding greatly and punishing firmly, making victories an incredible rush and making you really care about your character. Online party system is better than ever, and for now the griefers are few. Sound and music cues make the experience cinematic at times. Interface and menus are slick and polished. Player characters all have a unqiue feel and style.

    ----Final Comments----
The engine really feels like the World of Warcraft engine adapted and enhanced for this title, which is weak since the technology is showing its age. For all the shallow justifications Activizzard have given for the forced-online constraint, the title has or will soon be cracked and pirated, the auction house economy is junk, and only those who have paid for the game or want to play online must suffer the DRM. I can't help but think some big budget top-down action RPG title will fill the void left by this disappointing release. Perhaps that will be Blizzard with a Diablo3 expansion pack, restoring the deep metagame mechanics and charm of the series.

There is really not much else to say and nothing adding an adventure mode, removing the AH and more levels can do to save this game. RoS is another cash grab for Blizzard by telling gamers what they want to hear, there is no potential here.

Blizzard just want your money, they spend millions on advertisement and game-trailers to make you buy the game, once you get it? BAM! All the things they advertised on is gone, and now they have another DLC to drain more of your money, just get Path of Exile if you like A-RPGs and want to enjoy it without dumb pay to win and boring storytelling grinds

The server management (even expected though) is a joke... i had issues every single day since release. Also entire game elements don't really work properly. The auction house must have been developed by a genius - its bugged, has incredible stupid layout and most annoying - can't be accessed while ingame.

Worst of all is the itemisation. 99% of your loot is crap. You are forced to buy items on the auction house. Without them you simple stand no chance on inferno mode. I suppose thats how Blizzard wants to rob the customers money in near future instead of letting them pay monthly fees. (Yes you pay incredible high taxes on auctions which go directly into their purse)
Leveling the artisans seems to be also a waste of gold. Prices are ridiculously high and the results of your effort is simply not worth it - better buy on the a.h.

I have to admit the gameplay is relatively good. Playing with friends still is fun - but simply not fun enough. Game difficulty is defined by random enemy attributes which can vary from freeloot to impossible. That factor has a high potential of frustration because from a certain point on your progress dos not depend on your skill anymore - its simply luck and gear. That would be okay - has been with D2 too but not if all (yes ALL) items are randomly created by the game. So you might imagine how frustrating it will be when you find a barbarian set item with stats like intelligence and dexterity. I mean how stupid can it be?

At the begining i loved to play this game (so far as i was able to because of server restrictions) but with every day i beginn to dislike it more and more. I miss so many elements of Diablo 2 i just can't understand how Blizzard failed so greatly. The game is simply not finished after a ridiculously long development time. I don't even mind the outdated graphics (which are really **** outdated).

First I will say to people that this isn't an MMO. If you never played Diablo 2 then your lost.
This is an action RPG limited to 4 player coop. I'm glad I didn't purchase this game because of so many reasons.
1)Back in 2008 there was that artistic direction petition. 2)The people who did DIablo 2 were not doing this game. 3)DRM in 2011 which there was also a petition on the single player

    6)No Druids or Paladins
7)What they made Tyreal into.-saw youtube video
8)The story and voice overs-read about it
9)The length of the game which is shorter than Diablo 2-someone told me they beat it in 5 hours.
    10)The COW level-smh

As for the servers not working I say thats BS. Back when Diablo 2 was released I had 56k modem and a pentium 733 with a 20 gig harddrive and I played the game fine with my other friends. We are in 2012 where people have pentium 4 and terabyte drives and fast internet connection. There is no excuse for this crap. None. Everyone should be able to play the game with no problem whatsoever. I'm done with blizzard crap and I will never buy anymore of there products again.

You can play all 5 classes once and be done, why? There is nothing new to re-create, all skills are revealed and every player on the planet have the exact same character. There is no uniqueness at all. For single player game, users have to be connected to the internet all the time due to the idiotic DRM. I am sure a lot of people WORLDWIDE would appreciate to play OFFLINE mode. The graphics looks cartoonish and at least 5 years behind the current standard of graphic design. Often my character is not even identifiable in a mass enemy encounter. What funny is that the skill casting effects has absolutely nothing to do with your equipped weapon. Therefore 10 players would look exact same when they cast the same attack even they use different weapon. Real Money Auction House?? Seriously, is Blizzard trying to scam people's money after they have spent a good fortune on a piece of failed product. Should this game be enjoyed equally amongst all users? Pay-to-Win is not for true gamers, only for those who like to show off. Well, Blizzard is taking 15% cut to make a profit. I seriously doubt DIablo 3 will achieve the same success and longevity its predecessor had. This may be the end for Diablo, both the prime evil and the game. Expand
