Great game that continues the story of the second part. Several interesting classes, new mechanics.

Interesting story. The first year in Diablo 3 was very good, but I did not really like how the game developed further.

lack of offline mode is a dealbreaker. if this was playable offline, we'd have lots of mods. modders could fix this mess of a game.

Diablo 3 is a great game. Blizzard set out to make all builds viable and did a great job of it. The game is fun to play, relaxing and very rewarding.

Probably the worst iteration of the Diablo-franchise, to date:
Real life-money auction house, stupidly steep difficulty curve (With only 2 classes being able to cheese (And there by survive) the inferno-difficulty, at launch), no Magic Find-stat, horrendous story, way too much focus on action and none what so ever on roleplaying, forced cutscenes, recycling of old bosses like the Butcher

Diablo III vanilla was confused about what it should be. It was an ARPG that tried to be an MMO, and failed at being both.

Fewer kinds of gems than the predecessor, a clear defined endgame, boring copy-paste builds, no depth in gameplay, and a downright broken class balance.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Good game but going in the wrong direction.

I waited impatiently for Diablo III to come out, back in 2012, and when it did, I was the first to buy it. Never was I more hyped for a sequel than this one.

Right away, I was hooked up and played many hours in a row and almost finished it in one setting.

The story goes on where Diablo II ended and it follows the plot really well. Diablo has broken free from the Soulstone with the help of his Demon Lord buddies and roams the earth again. You need to stop him once again to save humanity and need to fight your way through all his minions and luitenants. It is kind of the same story as Diablo II but for this series, that is perfectly fine.

You visit the old, destroyed town of Tristram, come across characters and lore from the previous games and meet some new and original NPC’s. You roam the desserts, the cold plains of Bastion Keep and visit heaven itself.

The newly added characters, like the Witch Doctor, Monk and Demon Hunter and all great and every character is balanced. I could not find problems with any of them being more overpowered than the other. My personal favorite will always be the With Doctor. Raising zombies and attacking with foul voodoo is just so satisfying.

Diablo III is a big game and offers much content for moneys worth. It also has many improved features from the previous installments, like more inventory space, a re-loadable health potion and a town portal that you can always use, instead of a big bible in your inventory that stores town portals.
The game controls fluently and you are in total control of the situation.

Although I enjoyed the game and played the crap out of it, I have some personal complaints about Diablo III.

First of all, the game feels a little too cartoonish and the dark, grim atmosphere from the first two installments is not present. This is mainly because of the 3D graphics of course, but it is just to colorful and bright in my opinion.

Secondly, the introduction of the Auction House back in the day, almost broke the game for me. People could buy and sell ridiculously powerful items and blast their way to the game without any effort. And worst of all, you paid real money for it. The game became a business model and people became gambling addicts. It was even worse than the loot box system in many other games and it made me very sad. Luckily, this feature has been removed because of the many complaints but it is worth noting. If people did not complain, this would have gone on forever. And because Blizzard is doing the same scam these days for Diablo Immortal (which is already banned in my country because of this), I wanted to point it out.

Lastly, Diablo III has become a mindless game where the only thing that matters, is how fast you can complete a “greater rift”. It is starting to look a lot like League of Legends, in terms of doing the same thing over and over again and try to be the fastest. People must do what they like of course, but for me, the whole magic of Diablo, like experienced at the start of this game is dead. The story does not matter anymore and the game got too commercial, if that makes any sense. The seasons, greater rifts and events are cool, but also makes you feel that you can never complete this game.

Still, I get it. The game needs to stay interesting to keep people playing so the developers need to make some changes in order to achieve this.

But enough complaining. I play greater rifts too and participate in the seasons, but only because of the nice rewards you get from them and to build a new character, and making him stronger than the previous one. And although this is still enjoyable, many times I forget that I’m playing Diablo.

Overall, Diablo III is a good game and although nobody gives a crap anymore, it follows Diablo 1 and 2 quite well and has a ton of content, regular updating and new features. In my opinion it is somewhat targeted at “the next generation”, who did not experience the previous games back in the day, but now I’m starting to sound like a grandpa and I am not even 30 yet.

I already saw the trailers for Diablo IV and it looks like they go back to the roots of Diablo II with darker graphics and a nice story. Cannot wait to try it when it comes out.

Still recommend Diablo III it for its fluent mechanics, fast paced gameplay and its content for the buck.

The story is nice, albeit short. However, it's not a hack 'n slash. I didn't pay for an old MMO like WoW. It's not worth buying the game if you don't have it already.

This is a good, enjoyable game, but with flaws. They got a lot right - the music, the endgame content, the replayability of the procedurally generated content, and the depth. However, it lacks character customisation and lacks the depth of D2.

This game is still in Alpha. It's not fun, it's buggy as heck, wildly unbalanced, the graphics are dark and brooding everywhere. The dungeons all look the same, the rewards that drop are pretty crappy even by diablo standards. Overall...it's just not fun. Go back to Diablo 3 or POE

I bought this on a whim packaged with Diablo 2 Resurrected. I found the Necromancer to be really boring, so I switched to Barbarian and had a wonderful time. I did notice that there was a whole lot of streamlining compared to the previous games but I was havin fun.

Then I started a new game and saw it was not just streamlined, it was simplified to such a degree that it almost feels like a mobile game. I had fun once, but there was no replay value at all, and the fun I did have was more due to the basic Diablo elements, and not from any particular thing that is new to Diablo 3.

Basically, every class has an identical skill loadout now. They're all even labelled with the same categories, with Left Click being "weak attack/spell", Right Click being "stronger attack/spell", etcetera. Number 4 being big huge special skill with the longest cooldown timer.

There's a lot fewer skills overall, but they have variations on them with "runes" which are just sub-settings for the skill.

The whole of the gameplay revolves around these skills. There aren't any more attacks with weapons, so to speak; you can put a sword or spear on a necromancer or a wizard but they will never actually use them, unlike Diablo 1 and 2. They're just numbers adding to the damage done by the skills.

The whole game is like this, all ground down to a bland numbers game. And the game absolutely loves its frigging numbers. In Diablo 1 and 2, you were using weapons generally that did damages like 2 to 6 damage, 8 to 20, 100 to 200 for highest levels, hundreds of HP, hundreds of armor.

In this game, the numbers literally go into the millions and billions. Number pop-ups when you deal damage show when your attacks do damage, going up to literally hundreds of thousands by mid-high level, and HP going into the tens of millions or hundreds of millions for highest level bosses.

What's the point of this huge number inflation other than to waste screen space?

Actual combat overall has basically been cut down to just one specific style. Every single group of enemies is a pack of dozens. Almost all the skills you get are area of effect damage skills. Combat always amounts to "use the skill that does the most splash damage". You get XP boosts for combo kills, which very easily go into the dozens in just a single encounter. It almost cheapens the combat experience as you're no longer actually clicking on enemies to try to kill them, but just mashing the clicker wherever you can hit the most number of enemies at once. If it were a zombie movie, Diablo 1/2 would be more like Night of the Living Dead or Dawn of the Dead and Diablo 3 would be like World War Z.

Virtually everything that previously served a purpose in D1/D2 returns in D3, but not to actually serve a purpose but just as nostalgia bait. "Remember potions?" There's no potions anymore, BUT there is a health potion button you can press for free health and a 30 second cooldown. "Remember runes and gems and the horadric cube recipes?" Some of that is here, but you have to spend gold to upgrade, spend gold to upgrade gems, and the gems effects have been simplified, with only chest armor and weapon sockets havin unique boosts.

"Remember unidentified weapons and scrolls of identify?" There's still unidentified weapons, but they are extremely rare, and you can identify them for free in town. "Remember the town portal scrolls?" Town portal is now free and available to you at any time with no cooldown. Worse, there's also waypoints but you can use them literally anywhere and at any time. They're no longer like waypoints of D2 but just permanent town portals you can access from anywhere.

As well, there is no real Singleplayer mode. You have to be connected at all times, even if you want to play by yourself. And you will be playing by yourself, in 2023, because there's so many different game modes, all subdivided by difficulty (of which there's literally like 12 or more difficulty levels) and by level, and almost no way of keeping track of other players outside of a game, so you can spend a hundred hours in a public game and literally never see another person ever.

If you've never played a Diablo game before, this would be a fun enough one-time single player experience. If you've played Diablo 2, all you can really focus on is how much everything has been streamlined, to such a degree that you barely feel like you're playing a full fledged AAA game, instead of a quick, cheap mobile or arcade game to bang around in while on the toilet or waiting for the dentist.

The cinematics are great and draw you into the Sanctuary, but the dialogue and overall storytelling are lacking in comparison with its predecessor.
Its saving grace is the highly addictive combat and easy to use interface; just don't play this on the easier difficulty settings because never having to use the health potion due to being impossible to die can become tedious.

    Average game for premium price.
    Gameplay is really good.
    I like new art style.
Rest of systems: loot mechanics, end game content, skill trees need reworking.
120 repetetive dungeons which are rifts from diablo 3.
Only 3 world bosses, each can be killed in 3 minutes.
No guilds/clans content, no challenging raids.
Game made by multibillion company..... no comments.

As well, the loot drops are all tuned to make the Real Money Auction House viable for Blizzard, and thus the drops are not exciting as they were in the earlier Diablo games. As well, Normal mode is FAR too easy, and thus you have to play through the entire game first before there's any challenge. You know how boring that is?

No where as good as Diablo II, as it truly lacks that dark moody tone. The gore seems to have been toned down and the gameplay progress is extremely linear. Diablo III seems that doesn't make enough profit for the company as OverWatch or Heroes of the Storm. It seems they took a multiplayer/esports direction and it doesn't feel like the old Blizzard for sure.
They will be adding a new class to the game, the Diablo II, Necromancer, and it takes for them almost 1 year ...
Can't give a negative review as I respect Diablo series, but Blizzard is ignoring this title.

The always online requirement, the many server issues, the lack of a necromancer (the Blizzard's statement that Witch Doctor was already filling the role and they would never add it in the future), and the Bazaar controversy. They all contributed to the low score of this game. Sure they sold a lot of copies, but they also harvested a lot of disappointed players, myself included. They finally had to release the necromancer in 2017, five years after the initial release, due to much popular demand, but it was already too late. Now most people is looking forward to D4 with the hope they learned from the mistakes. Time will tell if they did. I just hope they don't take another 10 years to release an outdated game again. I wasn't crazy about it when I started playing. Nothing about it was particularly interesting except for the Witch Doctor skill that lets you throw jars of spiders. I played it for a couple of weeks. It was never engaging, just a grind. I missed everything that Blizzard removed from the game's predecessors and despised everything that they added (except for the jars of spiders). I thought perhaps that maybe I just didn't like ARPG's anymore. And then I played Torchlight 2 and Grim Dawn and absolutely loved them.

This game felt dumb-downed to find a low common denominator. Imagine you were waiting for the next Civilization game, but when it was released, it played like Mobile Strike for your phone. Instead of Farming Simulator 17, you get Facebook Farmville. Instead of Diablo III, you get...this.

Pros: I never encountered any problems with the servers or glitches with the game. Also, you can kill adversaries by throwing jars of spiders on them.

Cons: The game is a thoughtless grind lacking any sense of motivation or heart. You'll reminisce about the great games before it, or leave it to play something much better, like Grim Dawn or Torchlight 2.

    Classic hack'n slash, beautifully crafted.

Building a character is still fun with tons of items and special skills.

Although some sub-levels repeats itself (especially what's underground) and the difficulty is not that hard in hard mode, this is classic title that defines its category, with great atmosphere packed with non stop actions.

The people that worked on the D3 version we know since 2012 until today, came mostly from the WOW team or were newcomers and with that they brought with them a mindset and "taste" that is very "Anti-Diablo". On one hand I feel intrigued that I witness this massive scandal and the destruction of one of the best gaming franchises for the sake of "making more money". On the other hand, I am speechless because Diablo has been part of a big chunk of my life and there is a passion deeply rooted inside me. Seeing Diablo be destroyed for whatever reason breaks my hart.

Looking at "Diablo 3" as an action game unrelated to the "Diablo Franchise", I would rate D3 a solid 7, and a 8 with "Reaper of Souls".

Looking at "Diablo 3" as an ARPG and being part of "THE ARPG" franchise, its a massive failure, that many people cannot even grasp. I rate it a 3.5 and with "Reaper of Souls" I rate it a 4.

    Winning Formula for D4:

    1. Take D2 - Lord of Destruction
    2. introduce "Talisman" or simply put, a limited-space "Charm Inventory"
    3. Add D3 combat
    4. Add New-Era Graphics with "Time-Realistic" physics system
    5. Introduce new Runewords that will compete with already known existing and beloved Runewords
    6. Introduce new Unique Items that will compete with already known existing and beloved Uniques
    7. Introduce 2-3 new classes
    8. Introduce "Player-Hub Towns" where people can "mingle" and trade by enforcing "Item for Item"
    9. Allow open world PVP, with an option for players to "Opt-Out" from any PVP
    10. Introduce A massive amount of "Quest-Lines" that are "off the main path of the game-story" that unlock "Transmogs", Awesome Hard-To-Get Mercenaries, Bonus-Stash-Tabs, Spell-Effects, Weapon-Effects, Armor-Effects, Specialty items, Respec-Tokens (repeatable quest, and item also has low chance to drop as a normal drop), special Quest Capes that only drop after quest completion, etc.
    11. Introduce Micro Transactions for "Stash-Tabs", "Character Slots", "Transmogs", "Visual Spell Effects", "Mercenary Models", "Weapon Effects", "Armor Effects", "Character Class Voices", etc.
    12. Micro-Transactions fund the development for New Map Tiles for existing acts (which are then randomly assembled during map generation to constantly grow diversity and bring novelty and replay value, while also retaining the feel of "familiarity" to the player through "iconic locations tied to several individual tiles), New Monsters, New Items, New Transmogs, New Weapon Effects, New Visual Armor effects, Etc.

Since the removal of the auction house and improved loot drops and frequency Diablo 3 has turned into a pretty good game. The end game gear is a lot of fun. Once you have used your favorite set piece on your character for a while the game starts to get a little stale but that's super super late game, and what game doesn't loose some appeal once you have played it that much.

Also FYI I only played the game in single player and didn't really play it online with other people at all.

I actually had a blast with Diablo 3 and think it's the best game in the series. I thought the graphics looked great and the game seems pretty optimized to run on lower end hardware (I played it on a Ryzen 3 2200g's integrated graphics). It's great stress relief and so satisfying to to mow through mobs of enemies in a relatively mindless click fest. It's very accessible to newcomers (unlike Diablo 1 which I remember being pretty hard) and delivers that classic Diablo satisfaction so well. I loved how they revamped the skill system so that you don't have to invest points in them like in Diablo 2. Once you unlock the skill you can mix and match them how you want; it works so much better.

My criticisms of the game are fairly nit-picky. One thing that bugged me a lot was the lack of animations for the class I picked (monk). Monks can equip weapons in this game unlike in some other games, but for some dumb reason the weapons don't actually show up in their hands when you equip them. You just see the weapons sheathed on the monk's back and it looks like they're punching enemies when you attack instead of seeing the monk actually use the weapon. It was so frustrating and i felt it was unacceptable for a triple A title. And the story / character development is not a focus in this game but you can't really expect a Diablo game to deliver on this front.

At the end of the day, there's no other game that does Diablo as well as Diablo and it's extremely fun. So I'll give it a 9.

The game has a great gameplay e good immersion. After some hours playing it, it can becoming boring and repeateable. I remmeber there was a good system of market to sell and buy itens.

A shadow of its name. This is not a diablo name. its a bastardized casualized consolefied greedy game made by completely different developers to cash in as much as they can on the franchise. Blizzard has fallen, and it didn't start with diablo 3

Symplified version of a great game, the result is that the game is empty. No matter the graphics, the game is simple and so boring. The game is a joke: easy and brainless. You never die, you have no heat and you have'nt a real choice to do, is brainless

The nostalgic feeling I get form thinking about this RTS trend setter for so many games. Made me start getting into the genre I will never leave. Just epic.

It’s sad how Blizzard used the name of the franchise to create a WOW wannabe. Diablo 1 and 2 are going to be always the true essence of the title.

I got it to play couch co-op with friends. This has got to be the easiest and most boring couch co-op experience I've ever had. I hear if you beat it, you can increase the difficulty. Well, I can't get 3 friends to sit down to beat a game twice. What a waste of a great franchise and one of the few couch co-op experiences left. I can't imagine how this game got 88 metascore from critics. Expand

Obviously the Auction House was a terrible mistake at launch but eventually that was removed from the game. What was left was still a solid entry in the Diablo franchise and a very enjoyable game to play - I particularly enjoy Hardcore even though I've lost several high level characters over time....it was usually my fault instead of a server blip or something like that. The collapse of the series, the only good thing in this game is cinematics.

My wife likes it better than I do. I barely remembers the feeling of playing it. Maybe I am just older.

I remember that when it came out they put the shop in, but then they realised that they didn't even have to make money on a masterpiece of the Diablo series, so they took it out. I know a lot of people would probably disagree, but this is one of the best games. The many difficulties allows for a seamless transition. The slaughter and combat is addictive but unlike Diablo immortal it is me doing the slaughtering all the time.I would highly recommend this game.

Игра откровенно не оправдала возложенных на ней ожиданий, чего-то явно не хватает.

To date, the worst Daiblo ever. Not from the graphics or the good work of the designers, but the absolutely stupid annoyances of the developers. The game doesn't feel like a hack and sly but like a boring job creation.

It is hard from me to understand how in today's age of advanced technology and with Blizzard's experience + money, they have failed to deliver a game at least half as good as Diablo 2.

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]

When it works, Diablo III is the best of the Diablo games. When it doesn't, all it does is make you mad. [July 2012, p.54]
