Blizzard simply screwed up on this one - BIG TIME!

    - People cleared Inferno after days, due to the completely bugged nature of this game that was never even tested on the highest lvl. - After we learned that it was possible to dupe Gold for several weeks, onle three ppl from my friend list (containing 39 chaps for D3 alone) decided to go on playing. They stopped two weeks ago.

A simple bug that wasn't corrected for days (!) allowed you to quadripple your money in a matter of minutes. Thats why there are still 500.000.000 GOLD items that sell. Because the gold is still in circulation, blizzard never took measures against it. Oh yeah, well that makes your hard earned 10 Million virtually ... worthless. Congratz! :(

Did i mention that theres no pvp or competition of any sort? Something that a game like this desperately needs in order for people to have fun.

Diablo 3 looks and sounds allright and thats about it. I made a 60 Euro mistake.

You cannot modify you characters so apart from their armor they all look the same. The character mechanism have been retooled to the point of irrelevance. Blizzard had eight years to master one of the most anticipated games of all time. But there really is no improvements, and the game-play is cliché: you keep clicking hordes of demons, loot them and gain experience. I know that this is the basic mechanism of RPG's and the original Diablos, but it's just getting old.

(Been farming act 3 inferno with 300% MF with mediocre results).

To be able to clear latest act of hardest difficulty you have to buy gold or equipment for real money. The best gear in game is like 250 euro or more.

My advice: Don't buy this game and spare your time and money...

I was profoundly disappointed with Diablo III. I played several weeks AFTER release day, so my review is based on the game itself, not the customer service nightmare that was release day. I played the original Diablo and Diablo II, and unfortunately, 10-12 years of development (or however long it took them) didn't result in a marked improvement. On the positive side, I will say thatI was profoundly disappointed with Diablo III. I played several weeks AFTER release day, so my review is based on the game itself, not the customer service nightmare that was release day. I played the original Diablo and Diablo II, and unfortunately, 10-12 years of development (or however long it took them) didn't result in a marked improvement. On the positive side, I will say that gameplay feels more organic, and each class feels more unique than in previous installments. I admit, I loved the unique feel of the different classes, the animation for their various abilities and being able to tailor these abilities to my individual play style. I also like the fact that I can choose a gender for each class, whereas in previous games your gender depended upon the class you chose, so that was a definite improvement. My main gripe with this game is that, after an hour or two, it's BORING. After you get past the "OMG it's D3!!!" feeling and actually play the game for a few hours, this is what the experience comes down to for me: Run Around. Kill Mobs. Loot. Run Around More. Kill Mobs. Loot More. Lather, Rinse, Repeat. Previous installments of the game felt darker and instilled actual fear in me while I played, as the atmosphere and story engaged me and made the experience feel less grindy. The story in D3 seems more in the background than D1 and 2, and the repetitive gameplay and the relegation of the lore to the backburner greatly decreased my engagement in the game. It felt too easy, too repetitive and lacked the depth that was an integral part of Diablo I and II. Some would argue that Diablo I and II had very little depth, but I disagree. Yes, the story of Diablo didn't have the same complexity of the Warcraft or Starcraft franchises, but the lore was still rich and evoked a sense of fear and darkness that I simply didn't feel in D3 - even with the added cinematics, which felt hollow somehow. All in all, I was profoundly disappointed in Diablo III. Though it looks great and the classes were unique and fun to play for a short time, Diablo III felt repetitive and fell flat. It sadly lacks heart, and felt more like a generic hack-and-slash money-grab than a high-quality, complex universe that Blizzard was known for producing in the past. Expand

#7) In a 4 player game, when the heat is on, I can't tell half the time where my mouse pointer is, or what my character is doing, or where the frozen/arcane spawns are, until it's too late. #8) The story. This is totally unacceptable. Who wrote this? Who approved of it? Fire them. I'm insulted by it to be honest.
#9) Nerfs change your builds and cause you to more of # 1 - 5.
#10 Paragon Levels... MORE WAYS TO GRIND.

These are the things I can come up with off the top of my head. Anyway, I am cashing out, selling all my pieces of gear, and not looking back. Overall I had fun, and in the end the game paid me to play, and paid quite well, but in hindsight, this game is a 1/10 at best.

Quite possibly the most disappointing game I have ever been excited for...ever.

Might be fun the first run, but not the other times you try to play it. It simply lacks the replayability, randomized environments, and fun that the second game was. The excitement feeling from dropping "gold" as we know from previous series is completely gone. The game lacks heart and soul. I would never thought I will write negative review for Diablo 3. If this game was named differently and was not released by Blizzard, I would rate it probably 6/10. But I consider it also the biggest scam. 60$ for this is simply too much. Replayability is at zero (just for comparison, I´ve played the 9-bucks CS GO for more hours than D3 from their release). Well, you get the feeling that this was a blatant cash grab on the part of blizzard and they flat out lied to their customer base. That doesn't even take into account the horrible "always connected" drm which has lead to nothing but problems, the blatant lack of testing their product on implicitly supported hardware before launch, the terrible bugs caused by awful coding practices, the completely broken loot system in a loot driven game, a laughable implementation of character customization, the almost completely static "random maps", and to top it all off - the entire game is based around the premise of bleeding the player base for even more money through "micro-transactions" which result in anything but a micro amount. Very strange, because a USB mouse is about the simplest device in the world. (Yes, my drivers are up-to-date.) Blizzard lied about having a "real money" auction house. As of now that's vaporware. Maybe it'll happen, maybe it won't. The game itself is generic. For those that don't know... There is no "character creation". Essentially this game is a elaborate random item generator that plays on the gambling instinct. The entire game is focussed on "drops". That's it. The "story", such that it is, actually slows down the only fun thing about this game: the item drops. There is no sense of connection to the your character. Every level is essentially an elaborate 'tube' that you have to walk through and survive. The other reviews that say that D3 is an unworthy sequel to D2 are 100% correct. The only decent thing about D3 is Matt Uelmen's soundtrack. The only reason I don't feel completely robbed out of $60 is that Matt is going to get a little piece of that. D and D2 were great because they were 'original', in the sense that it had a very unique and special feel. But D3 doesn't break any new ground, and it doesn't have the charm of D2. D3 is a lot like the latest Van Halen album. Tattoo is an old tired Van Halen trying to sound like they used to, and failing for subtle yet embarrassing reasons. Likewise, Blizzard is a tired old video game company, and D3 fails for similarly subtle and embarrassing reasons. In three months ArenaNet is going to own the world and D3 is going to be a footnote in the history of bad product launches. I'm giving D3 a score of 3, two points of which are awarded to Matt Uelmen for the music. Quite frankly, if I'd known a month ago what I know today, I would have simply purchased the D3 soundtrack CD and continued playing online poker until Guild Wars 2 goes live. D3 will be my last ever purchase from Blizzard. Today Curt Schilling's video game company went gone belly up in Rhode Island. I can only wish the same fate for Blizzard. Expand

If they consider this a failed experiment, move to give us offline play (how they did it in Starcraft 2 was perfectly acceptable), and change their stupid ways, then I will give this game the score (10) it deserves. Until then, shame on Blizz. Expand

Its Now been several years and many developers have made similar games, I had hoped with the long wait Blizzard had made some new additions to this iconic title or at the least made more modern updates to the old formula to continue its legacy. Sadly Diablo 3 did not deliver, lets set aside the launch day problems, if that were the only issue here I could forgive not being able to play much on opening day. The game play is solid but nothing new or groundbreaking but this game has a lack of customization that I find disturbing most good new RPG games Provide tools to customize the appearance of your character. It is important to many players In a Roll Playing Game to be able to make the character as they see it, to take ownership and grow him in to what they like, playing with other cloned players devalues the experience and makes it difficult to be a proud owner of your character. Worse then not being able to change your appearance is making every person playing the same class a clone, the skill tree idea has been such a great way to give players choices on how to make characters as they see fit and taking this away makes me feel like I am playing your character not mine. So now that we are all playing identical twins the trade off should be amazing graphics right? Well the graphics are not bad but they are not good either looking more like something that should have been released a few years ago and the sound is good but the voice acting leaves something to be desired (competing with Bioware in voice acting will make it tough for them to rate well in this). I have not had time to beat the game yet (I work long hours the rest of the week and it has been unplayable most of the opening day so I will have to wait till the weekend to play again I hope the bugs will be worked out by then) but I have been told that it is not very long. I hope this is not true and that Blizzard is not counting on PVP and repetition to keep us playing, and I really hope they are not counting on releasing several more expansions at $60 each containing content that should have been released with the original game. At this point the game would be rated at a 5 of 10 but there decision to take out offline play entirely making it so we are not really purchasing the game but more like renting it from them for as long as there servers are supporting it. Not to mention the inability to play a single player game because they are doing server work or my internet is down. People will support the policy because of all the cheating that went on in the other Diablo titles but removing offline play will not stop this and any one thinking that hackers will not find a way to hack and cheaters will not find a way to cheat this system are just kidding them selves. look at WOW its online only and that has not prevented several speed hacking and item duping hacks from being used over the years.
To sum things up this game is a major step back from previous titles and I hope Blizzard realizes this and makes corrections bringing this game up to modern standards. My message to Blizzard, I own all the titles you have released on pc and they are good games but it seems that you have not been playing other games on the market recently so let me tell you what an RPG player expects in the year 2012 from a premium priced title, customization is key changing the looks and skills of your character makes it seem like you have hundreds of options instead of just the basic Classes, a long and involving story make me feel like I got my moneys worth out of paying your premium price , Graphics do not make the game and blizzard has never been known for cutting edge graphics so I can forgive the graphics if the game is reliable but making it rely on your servers and an internet connection takes away reliability leaving me withe a game that can be surpassed by smaller developers for a fraction of the cost (for the price of this game I could have purchased 8 copies of torchlight and torchlight 2 from steam and given it to many of my friends) . Overall I cant give this game better then a 3 as it is now i would love for Blizzard to listen to its fans and fix many of the things the fans are asking for but I don't hold much hope for that as it seems recently they see me as more of a wallet then a fan of there games.

No stat points, no skill trees, runes arn't even collectable anymore? You get given everything on a set path... How the hell is that the customisation we all love from the diablo series?

Gone are the days of sharing and play testing different builds for the same character... Now at level 60 (ANOTHER garbage WoW move, lets reduce the level cap to 60 so they have to buy the expansion for another lousy 5 levels!), No PVP. Sigh. Quite simply. this is not diablo, Its utter commercial washout wow backlash. Torchlight was more of a diablo 3 than this sorry piece of garbage. D2 was clearly superior in every way, but obviously that was before WoW. When blizzard wern't terrified to try something other than WoW.

Its a lot to pay for a game and frankly I expected more. Its quiet obvious that I've paid £44 for the maintenance of servers so Blizzard can capitalize on their profits. Clearly very little of that money has gone into the development of this game. I'm not going to go over the connection issues and other bugs, they've been well documented. I want to talk about how I'm really bored of this game. Its a bland, its easy, its boring. The gameplay is so one dimensional its painful. When Blizzard first pitched this game we were promised a game that would require more strategy over the previous titles, but honestly, it more point and click than Diablo 2. And thats saying something. The storyline is basic, the twists are obvious, the music...oh don't get me started on the music! Its like Diablo has lost its soul. A lot of people have commented positively on the voice acting. I honestly don't see why. The actors sound too jovial for a game like this. There's no sense of danger, no sense of urgency, its like 'who cares' whether you kill Diablo or not. The fear of fighting your way through the world of sanctuary has gone. You cant take this game seriously because it looks like a cartoon. Even Hello Kitty looks more menacing than the monsters in Diablo 3.

And its the little things too like the sound effects. It sounds kak. You don't feel like your interacting with a system, rather passing through a load of screens. I was really looking forward to this game and ignored a lot of the negative comments directed towards it. This game had so much potential, I cannot believe that Blizzard have managed to sc@w it up.

If it was £20, then yea, fair do's you expect to have to take a gamble on a game at that price. But its £44! You expect something a lot more polished. Torchlight cost me £15 and that even though it doesn't have half the stuff Diablo 3 does, its still far more enjoyable. And I don't have to have a constant internet connection to play. C'mon Blizzard, that's a lot of money for people to pay, especially in this climate. What were you thinking?! Paying for a game like this would actually do more to encourage piracy than to put it off.

I was so annoyed that I created a metacritic account especially to express my annoyance. What I cant believe either are the critics reviews. Any reviewer worth their salt would not give this a positive score. Its just a joke. In my opinion their all sucking up to Blizzard and they should be ashamed of themselves. Consumers rely on critics to do their jobs so people don't get conned into buying something they won't like. I refuse to believe that every critic thought this game deserved over 80%. Not just because of personal experience, but because of the huge numbers of users that have given it a negative review. You might argue that there are over 800 positive reviews, but if you read them, you'll notice that alot of them are protest reviews against the negative one. So far I haven't seen one negative critic review and that says it all. We've been conned by Blizzard and we've been conned by the critics. I'm going to ask for my money back and I'm going to boycott Blizzard games from now on.

For fans of D II and D I news aren't good either. The graphics lost their appeal and enthralling addictive dark quality. While it doesn't look as bas as LoL it doesn't look good appealing and diablo-like.

Foreshadowing Mist of Pandaria D III loses its RPG appeal. Levels are just numbers say goodbye talent points and skills, catering for angry birds and farmville players.

Like in Free-2-play MMORPG you can purchase better game changing items with real money, the difference being Diablo is not free and Blizzard takes its tidy profit cut on all auctions. Of course this is a boon for Chinese farmers and an invitation to hack accounts.

To summarise Diablo III may be interesting to young new players who never played Diablo II or III and want a quick game that can be played with one or two keys.

For the legacy players, the appeal may be much more limited.

That name has sent a shiver of anticipation down my spine ever since the confirmation of its existence back in 2008. I spent countless hours of my youth playing its predecessors, to which the RSI in wrists is testament. As the release date drew closer I researched obsessively on the minimum required performance to ensure a constant 60 FPS. After the system was built I paid the premium to get Diablo III via Blizz's digital delivery, ready to install and play the moment the servers went live.

The first login took 45 minutes of constant login spamming. I was in! I spent a while just wandering around in a rush of excitement, taking in everything. I barely noticed the lag teleporting me halfway back across the screen, until I was disconnected from the server. I wasn't able to log in again until the following day. At this point I was left with seriously mixed feelings, the disaster of the launch and the sweet euphoria of finally playing this game fighting for dominance.

Since then it's been a bit over a week. I'm still playing, but I'm not happy with the experience.

In D1 and D2, the gameplay was frenzied and frenetic. It always felt as thought your character was a moment from death, and you had to be ready with a potion or scroll of town portal to get out of danger. That feeling of split second timing is gone. Potions are only used sparingly, have been mostly replaced by health globes which you run over to use. Potions also have a cool down period, which makes combat more difficult than it should be when facing powerful creatures. Town portal is now a spell on your toolbar, and once triggered it charges up before activating. Moving your character will interrupt the casting. All this results in feeling like a spectator rather than a player, that whether you live or die is based on whether you can make your character run around in circles long enough to get away from mobs that are too big.

Even the characters movement has been slowed down, and the run button is gone. Couple this with the large size of the maps and it can take an age to complete some parts of the game. This is exacerbated by the fact that maps will reset after you disconnect, and disconnects happen automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity. This is a poor decision on Blizzard's part. I would like to be able to interrupt gameplay if I need to without worrying about getting back to the computer to move the mouse.

The loot drops in the first two acts are poor. There is little incentive to take loot back as most items yield less than 10 gold. Most magic items are less than 100, and rares less than 300. It's baffling that Blizzard would choose to change the loot mechanics as they are arguably the Diablo series' defining aspect. Instead we have a blacksmith, complete with an upgrade mechanic lifted straight from Blizzard's MMO titles, who can craft higher stat items. Of course you have to pay gold to upgrade him and access the higher stat items. These items require salvaged materials that you get from destroying magic, rare, and unique items. Most of these have a number of random magic properties. To date I have only used one, yes, one of these items as all the others have had useless random stats assigned. The amount of gold and magic items required to craft one of these items is ridiculous. At least D2 was honest about and called it gambling.

Then there's the length. Despite the thing feeling like you're wading through molasses most of the time, it's over all too quickly. But wait, it's OK because Blizz have helpfully included multiple difficulty levels. Each one is unlocked sequentially once the last mode is beaten so you can play it all over again for better loot and higher levels. Just in case that wasn't enough of an incentive, there are also further plot developments for some NPC's that only unfold in higher difficulties.

This is not an acceptable alternative to making a decent length game, Blizzard. You've have twelve years. TWELVE! You really need to do better. Unless of course you're holding back in anticipation of the - wait for it - EXPANSION PACK! I will play this through to the end. I've spent too much money, and waited too long not to. That said, I feel this has been a missed opportunity for Blizzard. It's more like "World Of DiabloCraft" than a true "Diablo III". Almost all the (technical) issues with this game could be fixed by just giving players the choice to have offline only characters. That way people who want to play a single player game (y'know, the majority who bought the damn thing) could play without lag destroying the experience.

2/10 (And thats only in recognition of the talented artists and designers who put their blood sweat and tears into this. The money men behind the online requirement/DRM and real money auction house... well, most of the internet has an opinion on you guys. Just google it).

I can even leave aside the blatant FRAUD commited by Blizzard in the form of false advertising by not including major parts of the game such as PvP, not delivering a finished AH, ... I can leave all that aside and more because in the end Diablo comes down to one thing and one thing only: loot. People would have never continued playing Diablo II if it didn't have such a great loot system. It allowed you as a player to experience the thrill of finding great items, but still made you work hard for it. There was a good balance, and even casual players could enjoy some of the more exclusive items every now and then. Blizzard has done away with this in favor of their money making scheme, the AH. However, they neglected the fact that the very heart of Diablo was the thrill of the items. I do have to add that a great factor contributing to replayability was the skill system. For example you could try to create characters that were a little more wacky or excentric but powerful in their own way. This, too, has been eliminated because every Barbarian of lvl X equals every other Barbarian of lvl X. No idea which idiot came up with that... Blizzard, Diablo was about the fun of hacking down monsters, the thrill of the items, and also, a little work. A little work put in by the player that gave you pride in the end. Meaning that your character was strong because you made it strong. Now, because you've taken away all of these key ingredients, nothing remains of what was once your masterpiece. And that really is a damn shame. Expand

A generally well made game which has failed to meet many expectations from the community, based on previous experience with the franchise. The biggest shortcoming is the lack of end-game content, which has left many more dedicated fans restless and unhappy (hence the bad reviews here).

The writing is on the wall and all the indications are there that Blizzard and parent companies are now just lifeless corporations looking to churn out a quarterly profit by providing incomplete products and throwing you a bone once in a while at a premium price thus requiring you continue paying money for a never ending beta. Kind of like tying a dollar bill to a string and pulling it away from your victim as soon as they get close. Very few companies once successful stick to quality standards and seek for never ending ways to exploit and sucker their customers once pleased with their offerings into bloating their coffers. Enjoy dishing out quarterly payments to these big gaming corporations to complete the forever incomplete product you are essentially buying. EA has been doing it for years, adding a few useless features or features that were already there or very easily could of been utilized in previous year titles. Maybe its just bitterness towards the lack of quality in games these days or playing too many and expecting more, maybe the gaming industry is in need of something revolutionary and innovative. As always the first playthrough can't be easier, the replayability is just doing the game again (which is short as well) and doesn't add much at all.

My hopes haven't withered away entirely, with prospects from Bethesda and Blizzard and the upcoming Guild Wars 2 keeping my hopes afloat. I think we can all agree the Diablo series maintains superior replay value for games of their day and age. Unfortunately, video gaming is constantly ever-changing. Console-tards have overrun the video game world. Their need for instant gratification and simplification and flashiness has eventually seeped into PC gaming (cough* Skyrim and there removal of attributes, stuff from previous installments, etc.). Though I'm not that old, I'm a longtime vet of old school titles like the Diablo series. Like many of you, I grew up with the game. I f**king loved it. Still do.

My point is this: The people who made this game aren't the original devs. They borrowed concepts from other oversimplified games, made their own oversimplified Diablo clone, and made Diablo into a chick. Seriously? It's all about the money, isn't it Vivendi? I should have known better. But I digress. - Character development simplified. All skills auto unlock (which is horsef**k). Skills can't be upgraded to your liking with points invested into them (the one thing they should have kept). No attribute distribution. Completely unoriginal skills and effects. The RPG element has dissipated severely. You can make your character male or female. Customization can't get much more depth than that. /sarcasm

    - The original "dark/fantasy/horror" theme of the game is lost. It adopted the cartoon-world style that WoW has. I remember the "grittiness" playing Diablo in the dark, while nearly sh**ing my pants when the Butcher came out of his room. I'm not going to complain about the outdated visuals too much, since the original Diablo games weren't renowned for their graphics. They did what worked - which is what I hoped they would do here. But they didn't.

    - Plot is terrible. Diablo and Diablo 2 weren't the best, I'll admit. By best, I mean something along the lines of Final Fantasy VII and X. How many years was Diablo 3 in making? With all those years of development, I would expect something refreshing in the least. I predicted so many parts of the story it wasn't even funny. I feel like I've been lied to. I can't help but to speculate that the game began development a year or two ago, and they've just been hyping people up all these years to make money (i.e. Chinese Democracy - Guns N' Roses)

    - Sound and effects were alright.

    - I will admit, the auction house was sweet. But they're implementing a real money auction house, where they get a cut. Way to turn the tables on those pesky Chinese farmers, Blizzard. At least they've realized you can't get rid of them; so why not join them, right? #allaboutthe$

    - Buggy launch is buggy

    - Gameplay isn't all THAT bad compared to originals. Diablo was a point and click game originally, but it shouldn't take all these years to realize a game with the exact same concept. People will get their hopes up and expect something unique and original, only to be shot down by something stagnant.

    - Need internet to play? No single player offline? Self explanatory.

    - No PvP. One of the reasons I continued play and developing my characters in Diablo 2 for years on and off was the fact I could poop on the chests of newcomers. When it hasn't been implemented, it implies several things: Character skills and attributes weren't too well thought out. By this, I think they created them for PvE, disregarding the balance and effects players would have combatting eachother. It means the game is unfinished. They took too long making it, haven't finished, and rushed it into the fray to ease the ever growing throng of Diablo-fanboy piranhas (like myself, admittedly). Shoulda saw it coming when SC2 was announced, boys. - Bringing back old school characters to induce nostalgia in older players? Didn't do it for me. I was actually offended seeing these monsters I've slain in the past magically brought back out of nowhere. The only one I wouldn't have been disappointed with and wasn't brought back was Andariel, so I could pause the game and look at her boobies jiggle. Then again, they probably would have taken that out too. Overall, I'm disappointed. It lost that effective formula that I can't quite put my finger on, which kept me and so many others coming back. If you're a fan of the series, don't give in to capitalism and waste your money on this oversimplified Diablo clone. Yes, I'm putting on the level of a "clone" and not an actual title within the series. It's that bad. Like the hero of old who slew Diablo beneath Tristram and became the Dark Wanderer, this game too is nothing more than a shadow of it's former glories. 1/10.

Why Diablo 3 is a failure:

Let's start with the guts of the game, the mechanics and work our way to the less important, but still relevant things they got wrong as well.

1.) Skill system/stat allocation system: Where is it? It doesn't feel like Diablo without it, plain and simple. It feels cheap, unrewarding, and lame. If I roll a hardcore character I might want to put more into vitality. Maybe they could have IMPROVED upon the d2 system, we all know it wasn't perfect. Maybe runes to augment the skills/synergies?

2.) B.net 2.0 - Yet another step backwards, we could have had a beautiful chat room set up with our characters at the bottom of the screen, both matchmaking games to quickly get you in the action and open games (like "act 1 start" etc.) 4 players in a game? 4? Diablo 2 allowed more in a game, doesn't that feel wrong? Hell WoW had 5 in a party, 4 max in a party wouldn't even let me play in a game with my 4 other friends...

3.) RMAH - Just because you can choose to ignore it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Join a pvp arena to have someone who bought all their gear kick your ass. Sounds fun. Lets not oversight the lack of world pvp, no more getting on your lvl 94 alt and kicking some lvl 30 gankers ass. Oh thats right nobody can even hostile in town. Enjoy your WoW arena matches. Maybe there will be pillars to line of sight around, weeee.

4.) Health globes: No no no no. I don't want my life to be dependant on an arcade-ish chance to drop health on the ground. It's **** potions in d2 were not great, but there was some micromanagement to it. It once again could have been improved upon. In path of exile (another ARPG showing some promise) They made the potions recharge on your belt, and potions could be blue, having stats like instant recovery/ 30% increased run speed during potion duration. Blizzard really dropped the ball on this.

5.) Graphics/feel: It's not Diablo 2's next of kin, It is WoW's next of kin. Diablo 2 was full of dungeons with mutilated bodies on torture racks, demons lingering in the dark cursing in demonic tongue. It felt visceral and dangerous. Diablo 3 feels like a loot romp through bland green-tinted grass. Blue and purple dungeons, yessss, great job Diablo 3 developers, really captured terror there. Diablo 2 was Raiders of the Lost Ark and Diablo 3 is Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull. As far as inferno goes it seems like they turned up the difficulty knob to make the game more "hardcore." Too bad when the game mechanics suck it's not even fun.

1/10 and if you disagree, i'm sure you're one that's looking forward to mysts of pandaria as well. RIP Blizzard not going to reward you for alienating your fan base and ruining your game series with poor money-influenced game design choices.

However, the bad FAR outweighs the good. - First is connectivity (DRM). I'm OK with it being online, but they need to stabilize the servers. I have a higher-end, very solid system with high-speed cable internet and I still get disconnects, huge latency spikes, and game crashes (2 of which have caused me to lose loot from a boss).
    - Second (related to DRM) is the hacked accounts. While many users are at fault for hacked accounts, this would never be an issue if there wasn't DRM required.
    - Third is the graphics. They are decent and I understand that they are marketing to all systems and not just top-end, but they look worse than WoW which is almost 10 years old. How can we have gorgeous games like Skyrim out there with games still being released that look like D3!?
    - Fourth, huge lack of features. Can't break apart chat channels, disorganized friend's listings, terrible searching/sorting capability of AH, etc. There are so many of these basic features they could have ported over from WoW and they would have been perfect but right now they're just garbage.

This game feels like an Indie game that was developed in about a year or two, not a big 'box office' hit with 8+ years in the making. Fun, but a long way to go to be a 'good game'.

Aside from the lack of intellectual and visual developments to the game I feel like the horror ARPG has been turned into a badly voice acted gamble to win people's money. Too much of the game revolves around owners spending GOBS of cash. Practically encouraging real money to be used as currency in game is how iPhone games trick parents into buying virtual trinkets for their kids. GOSH I can rant about this while staying objective and every sentence further I get the lower my score goes.... so I'm going to leave it at a 2. 2 points were for the dev staff that just got the mechanics worked out. I assume that's difficult enough they deserve some credit, but who knows if they were fired or laid off so many umpteen years ago when the project was started and obviously near completion. Good day sirs. Expand

After so much hype i decided to take a look at this game. Didn't buy it, went to my friends house to try it. And i have to say i am happy i didn't buy it. Constant internet connection for SP game, pretty much enforced DRM. Interesting enough neither me or my friend were interested in that AH and co op mode. Why cant we play it w/o internet connection and more important, why cant we save when we want.? When we managed to log in the game looked pretty ugly. Even with everything on high. Our character (we picked monk) was interesting. He didn't have any attributes to assign when u lvl up, he didn't have talent tree. Only skills to unlock when u gain a certain lvl. Whats the ''RPG'' part in it when the game does everything in auto-mode for u? Runes are boring. Increases damage for xy number. are u kidding me? AH is same as wow, except u can buy items for real money. so pretty much pay to win. we later found out that blizzard is taking pretty interesting cut from transactions. something like sneaky income. crafting is ok. although i doubt anyone will use those items later on and will farm stuff what they want. soundtrack. nothing much to say. its what u should expect - perfect. In conclusion: too much hype for this game which was in development so much, yet failed to deliver all what we were waiting for: diablo feeling. keep your cash on something else. Expand

Rating reflects hours able to play on launch day. I set aside time in the afternoon to play but was booted after an hour. This is the only action I feel is available to me to convey my disappointment with this game launch.

Extremely disappointed with Blizzard's ability to successfully launch their game - server down times of 5 hours, and you have to login to their server for Single Player. You've failed me Blizzard, I won't be fooled by you again.

Does the account login screen count as a game? It's sort of like gambling. Are the servers up? Down? Much like any casino, the odds are heavily stacked against you. This game is basically Dungeon Siege 3, but with more DRM and the ability to bring your own gear with you instead of tying it to the account you play on. Like DS3, D3 fails to live up to the previous two versions of the game. Diablo -> awesome game. Diablo II -> awesome game. Diablo III - > It is a major lag fest with very few monsters coming at you at a time compared to previousThis game is basically Dungeon Siege 3, but with more DRM and the ability to bring your own gear with you instead of tying it to the account you play on. Like DS3, D3 fails to live up to the previous two versions of the game. Diablo -> awesome game. Diablo II -> awesome game. Diablo III - > It is a major lag fest with very few monsters coming at you at a time compared to previous games. Instead of fun rendered monsters, you get bad 3D graphics. Instead of being able to take the game to a friends house and play over a LAN, or play alone on your own computer, you are required to log into their servers, which apparently are rarely even up.

When the game is there, it is much too easy... the game forces you to play through 8 hours (yes, this supposedly epic game is that short) of mind numbingly easy undead, demons, and gore before it gives you the option to play on a more challenging difficulty level. I suppose you could go Hardcore, but the servers don't seem stable enough for that. Plan for 24 hours to complete a typical 8 hour play through since there is a "mini-game" where you get kicked off of the server (for a single player game) and they repetedly hit "Log In" until it does not give you a random # that explains the current reason you can't connect to the server. If you want to play multi-player, you probably should double that time for each additional player that has to win the log-in lottery.

On the bright side, the game is so poorly executed that even without the DRM Blizzard would not have to worry about people downloading this and stealing their game. Other games are coming out later this year with real offline mode, I would say they are Diablo III killers, but really just about any free hack-and-slash flash game on the internet is that.

Just bought the game, installed it, and I can't play, servers down. I have never played the game. I paid 60 dollars of hard earned cash for it. We, as gamers, need to not support this crap. To you people defending Blizzard, please think about it. Is this the direction that you want single player gaming to go? Unimaginable. Blizzard has officially jumped the shark.

I can't believe what Blizzard has become. Always on DRM, even for simple player? Why? Why? Why? I don't play multiplayer. I travel quite a bit. Do they know how crappy internet connections in hotels are, and that's even if you pay for it? And then there are issues with their server. I can't even play this now?! This DRM is unacceptable. Elitism, absurd hardware specs to run a game at his "full potential", DRM, poor game design and many other issues have almost killed pc gaming. Why should i bother about Diablo 3 when i can get Dark Souls on console?

Diablo III, because the whole world has broadband right? It's ridiculous that I just paid 60 dollar for a product that is unplayable, I'd try to get my money back but I know they'd never do it. So i'm out 60 dollars because a game that previously featured offline gameplay decided that we shouldn't include that this time. Buyer beware, greed is a terrible thing. Enjoy your auction house.

On the other hand, from a general enthusiast and casual gamer's perspective, it's a lot of fun! My wife loves to play and getting her to play video games is almost as hard as performing brain surgery with knitting needles. But she digs it, so I'm happy it's simple (enjoyable?) enough for her to want to play, and that gives me a good reason not to rate it a Zero.

As A standalone game, without the diablo title, it may have been a bit better in my books. The fact they called this game Diablo 3 is a disgrace. The gameplay is acceptable, although the skills are bland, and can be altered slightely with "runes" aka unlocks you get to your base skills when you level up.

The looting system sucks, the multilayer "Match making" sucks. This game wont span generations like diablo 2 did....

In order to play the game, you have to select a quest to play. You cant just join into a game, or create a room. Your stuck doing that one quest. You cant switch acts unless you leave the game and load a quest from the book in the act you want. So no more Practical mf runs...

The colors in the game are.. disturbing... One of the bosses, actually is wearing a PURPLE cape. In D1 and D2, monsters capes were either black, or red... Not purple. 70% of the wizards skills emit purple rays. Monsters seem cheery, and are recycled often. Unique monsters are just larger versions of their orignal 3d models.

The Scenery in the game, is great.... But it does not apply to all places. In Diablo 2 and 1, you had a black space bordering the dungeon you were in. Think the Catacombs in Diablo 2. In Diablo 3, you have a similar level, except instead of a black space bordering the walls, you have in almost every location, a bottomless pit, or a giant wall that heads down seemingly forever. With great looking 3d effects. Its the cellar of a cathedral. It DOES NOT SPAN DOWN ENDLESSLY!

This type of scenery did work well when your near the end up in heaven, seeings the ground below and walls and clouds extending down... worked well there... like horizans sanctuary in d2..

No pvp as of yet, the Diablo world is a dark world, where players can do what they want. In Diablo 2, if i disliked my ally, i could go to town and hostile them, and kill them if i so choose. Diablo iii is going to follow the pvp system from a wow pvp server, it will pop up a menu asking if you want to 'Duel". I dont want my enemies to have a choice, i want to hunt them down...

Replay value? What replay value? Play through it twice and you have all the levels memorized, there is no random dungeon spawning.... Well there is... but its a cave that will spawn in the level at one of a few pre desginated points. These dungeons are always tiny, like one or two rooms tiny, the room fits entirely on your screen.

The characters level up automatically, you cannot set stat points, or skills, the only way to modify this is by equipment. Its pretty much a choice between equipment that does more damage, or equipment that adds more health..

I was hoping to return to places we have seen in Diablo II, meet old characters. But The only returning characters were Ashera, and Cain, and of course Diablo. The only place you see in Diablo III, is a sorry excuse for tristram, that resembles nothing of the orginal. You even get to go into something that's supposed to be Adrias hut.... You don't even cross a river to get there...

Play the game, enjoy it for what it is. Dont take it too seriously, then put it away untill they release an expansion or something...

Would i reccomend this game to the hardcore diablo fan, no don't waste your time / money

If you want the real diablo 3 feel, i'd reccomend games like Torchlight, or Titan quest (Greek mytholodgy)

They pulled it off right. Diablo iii FAILS

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]
