What an unmitigated disaster. Blizzard should apologize to their fans for this atrocious attempt at a sequel to Diablo 3. Why the game is bad has already been stated enough times to be clear. I just want to give voice to the overwhelming disappointment that this game has wrought on fans of this series.

    Truly pathetic.

This is a huge disappointment for all hardcore gamers. The major problem is simplified casual gameplay oriented on non-gamers. And its complement with lots of minor issues from absurd DRM policy to outdated graphics and step back in terms of general design.

Blizzard obviously spent more time developing the monetization scheme of this mediocre game than they did focusing on the player experience. The game is designed to herd frustrated players to the real money auction house where you can give your money to hackers, gold farmers, and exploiters to get the gear you need to get to the next act...and Blizzard will take a cut. Story, gameplay, and graphics are mediocre- really uninspired.
Server issues and security issues should be an embarrassment to Blizzard, which has had more than enough time and resources to sort things out. Really shabby work and a waste of the Diablo name. Blizzard continues to disappoint.

While the core game play itself seems bug free, everything else from the client, to logging in, to the auction house, to even doing in-game trading is finicky and simply just plain bad - untested, unfinished product. At the heart of the game is the Diablo hack and slash combat we all know and love, and the skills and classes feel good. From this aspect the game excels very well. However, and unfortunately for Blizzard, the fact the servers were horrible on the first week, and still lag constantly, the auction house which continually gives you error codes whenever you try to buy an item or sell an item, the incredibly short, predictable, and tired storyline that any elementary school student could have come up with, the incredible shortness of Act 4, and the quite clearly 4 year old graphics engine combine to give a rating - 5/10. The game hits all the points we wanted from D2, and that's not saying much considering that game is 12 years old. Feels like a Diablo 2 expansion pack more than a new full game. Expand

Okay, this should've been a Single Player Game. This is no MMO. You should've given us the choice to choose between off-/online. Now I have a game, which is no MMO, and I can't play it, because you MMO experts (WoW) can't handle your servers. This makes me regret the purchase so much. Truly sad.

I found D3 a great disappointment. The need of a permanent internet connection to play a single player game is absurd. I think they could find a way (offline for single player and online if u want to play with others ppl). In my opinion from this point of view Valve is way above Blizzardâ

Considering the hype for this game and the large fan base looking forward to its release with huge expectations, disappointment was to be anticipated in some form. The always online thing is a bummer, for starters, but that is nothing that surprised me out of Blizzard. What did surprise me was the startling mediocrity of the game in terms of visual style, sound and voices, in-game videos and quest design. These things are tolerable, although I personally hate the way everything out of Blizzard is becoming more and more cartoony and World-of-Warcraft-looking. The storytelling on the other hand is not mediocre - it's frankly terrible. Where the fascinating background lore could have been worked into an enticing, mysterious storyline, it was not. The characters are simply laughable. I really hated listening to most of them. Opponents like the "Lord of Lies" will be so daft, I found myself wondering what the target age group for the game actually is.

Yes, Diablo 3 is fun if you play through it once, maybe level up to 60 and go hunting for some gear if that's your thing, but personally I will put it on the shelf for now. I've spent my money on worse games though, so 5 out of 10 is about right.

The loot system is hit or miss and ultimately one finds themself resorting to the auction house to acquire decent gear. The crafting system is awful for it's cost in combination with the utter randomness of the crafting results. The old school adherence to point and click movement is annoying at bes;, frustrating and outdated is a more apt description. The lack of any customization when creating characters is disappointing, but I guess it is a minor issue (at least you can pick a gender). The only real replay factor for me came from the classes and how differently they play. However the core gameplay feels repetitive and grindy after a couple playthroughs. The general chat is a joke; it is just a breeding ground for gold seller spam. In the end I feel like Blizzard made this game ultimately for the Real Money Auction House.; which is the one feature of the game I will never use, partly because I am already done with game but mainly because I find the whole concept distasteful and greed oriented. I played for a few weeks before becoming more than bored with the game...I guess I got my money's worth out of it. The amount of hot fixing that has been made to the game shouldn't have if Blizzard would have originally listened to the community. The legendary drops were mediocre compared to that of rares. Diablo 3 becomes a grinding mess after finishing Hell mode. It seems it was set up to prevent the player from advancing through inferno mode keeping them to do endless runs trying to obtain decent gear. Many players found ways to make this easier and Blizzard either changed or nerfed their methods. It also seems classes were and possible are not balanced. While a hunter could take out enemies in inferno mode with one or two hits, another player using any other class could have much more difficulty on doing so. It made the player base just run around with DH characters instead of actually offering variety. No PvP upon release is another reason why this game has failed and the overpowered DH must be the reason why. The combat system is basic and not as complex as the other Diablos and falls far behind them. The only plus to this game is the RMAH and AH where players can sell items for real money or player money. I have to say after playing Diablo for 3 months I left the game and never looking back. It can continue be the failure mess Blizzard made it to be. Expand

Overall the forced online feature, is enough to destroy this game completely. Due to fear of piracy, Blizzard has kneejerked a reaction which causes true gamers, you know, the fans of D3, to reject this game. The DRM protection method is causing more harm than good. Sure, it protects your account from being hacked, at the expense of your account never getting to play a game you paid for. Servers can't stay online, forums can't even stay open, and the rising bitterness of customers are turning this into one of the worst video game launches in history.

Decent play (as expected for a loot-crawler), but the always-connected/internet feature has to go. Patch, please, Blizzard, and let us play without internet.

Diablo III is a massive disappointment. Disregard the fact that the player must have internet access in order to play, because that was a well known fact long before the game was released. The reason this game is such a letdown is simply because it has lost sight of its origins. Diablo III is casual, short, and an insult to longtime fans.

I tried the game on a friend's computer. Graphically pleasing and the sound design is also good. However, the always-on requirement, RMAH, and Battle.Net issues (connection issues that are NOT on my end and provable every time) that I always seem to encounter make it a no-brainer for me.

Blizzard has disappointed me yet again and they will not get my money.

This is a great game. No question. However, Blizzard have effectively and intentionally excluded a good portion of their fans, some of us lifelong fans, from enjoying the game. No matter what Blizzard says or those who CAN play cos they have fast internet say. So unless you have a minimum of a 1 MB ADSL connection, don't bother buying this. You won't be able to play it. The server lag will frustrate you into smashing your own PC.

Unfortunately, this game still has a lot of significant problems. In terms of gameplay, there's nothing wrong with the basic formula: kill stuff , get loot, etc., and there's some fun mechanics to learn for each character. The major problem is that the addition of the auction house has totally ruined the scaling of the game, and I'm talking about the normal (legitimate) one, not the one that uses real money. When you put millions of people online at the same time and let them share every single item with each other, the "mega rare" items aren't so rare anymore, and competition drives the prices down...at the end of Act II I decided to spend about 45 minutes buying AH items (which was actually the most engaging and fun part of the game so far), and ended up with a maxed-out gear set for next to nothing. This was awesome at first, but then I proceeded to waltz through the second half of the game in a few hours. After a certain point it's just boring when you walk into the final boss's room without any preparation and beat him in a single try. I'm halfway through Nightmare difficulty and it hasn't really been any more difficult, although I expect at some point it might cross my mind to recruit a friend for some backup. Regardless, claiming that "the game only really starts on the second playthrough" is honestly one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard, and I'll never know why it flies for Blizzard when it wouldn't fly for any other developer on the face of the earth...for 60 bucks, there is a very distinct lack of content here.

The game being too short or too easy wouldn't be so bad if the game's story or graphics held up, but this isn't really the case either. The graphics are...well, unimpressive (even on max settings), and if you liked the whole "dark fantasy" feel of the series, prepare to be very disappointed because the art direction of this game is much closer to WoW than any Diablo game (there's even a few scenes that feel ripped out of SC2, but that's another story). Granted I was 14 when D2 came out, but I remember some of the areas being pretty creepy and grim...this is much more cartoony and vibrant. The sense of dread and loneliness is gone, there's NPC's everywhere and they really hurt the tone of the game. There's even awkward moments of attempted humor (I don't remember the exact wording, but a major boss literally says some variation of "I hate vegetables" as you fight him). It's very tame, if they removed the small amounts of blood in this game it could easily be rated Teen. Combine this with sub-par voice acting and a routine storyline, it makes for a bland experience.

So...obviously Blizzard did not spend all their time and money to deliberately make a mediocre game, so I only have one explanation for why this game is so disappointing: to me, every decision made throughout the development process seems to be about getting a mass audience involved in the Diablo franchise at the expense of the depth and artistic integrity that the hardcore fans love. They will make a killing on this game, especially when the real-money auction house hits. Some people might even claim to love it, but at the end of the day it's really hard to consider it anything other than a blown opportunity, and a sad way to conclude a wait of over 10 years.

No, the "Big Problem" and the reason for why I give this game a score of 4 is that is simply does not work. Even now, days after launch, it is still unplayable. And this is all after both a closed BETA and a public demo that also served as a stress test, so Blizzard could, and should have been better prepared to hold up their end of the deal. Finding the best armor was a skill, and I remember my MF Sorceress fondly. My uncle and I had mule accounts to keep all of our good drops. Fast forward to Diablo 3, the long awaited and highly anticipated game for all of us Diablo 2 fans. Is the game good? Yeah, I guess. Is it worth the $60? Not really. And it definitely is a disappointment. Watching beta videos on YouTube, I was very disappointed with the cartoon-like graphics. It's not as bad as I was expecting, but it still doesn't give me the creepy feeling Diablo 2 did. The storyline is also absurdly short and rushed, I beat Normal within a few days and that's not even playing all day or night. I thought the cinematics were cool, but in general, the acts felt very reminiscent of Diablo 2 except with a worse storyline. The inclusion of the Auction House gives me mixed feelings... and it all seems like Blizzard set the game up to just make them money. We don't get our Hoadric Cube back, we have to craft our armor, craft our gems, level up our stash... and it all requires gold. Even in the gold auction house, Blizzard takes a cut of the gold. Runes as we know them from D2 are gone, replaced with skills we can't really customize. I feel like I can't stand out at all from any other Wizard (I play a Wizard)... not to mention that the Wizard is pitifully weak compared to other classes. I tried to find my own loot like in Diablo 2, and had 50% MF total.. and found no decent drops. I ended up just buying items from the AH, which is probably how everyone will do it. Even the music is uninspired... they just remixed one song from the previous game and it gets very repetitive. It's not creative and doesn't really add to the atmosphere like it did in D2. I guess I just find Diablo 3 to be very oversimplified, short, and bland compared to Diablo 2. It's a fun game worth playing, but if you really enjoyed Diablo 1 and 2, you may be disappointed. Expand

Being someone who massively enjoyed both the original Diablo and Sierra's Hellfire expansion as well as Diablo II and Lord of Destruction, I'm familiar with the direction that this newest addition to Blizzard's RPG hack n slash should have gone, and where it failed to meet expectations.

    Graphics:
Now some of you might be saying, "This is 2012, and we demand amazing graphics!" And while I don't deny this is completely valid, I do want to point out that Blizzard is in the habit of dumbing down graphics to make it more playable to those who don't have a super-power mega geek machine 9000. And, it's a valid point. Cartoon-ish? Eh, I'm not sure what people are prattling on about. Graphics are one of it's strong points, if not at least just a non-issue.

Game Interface: Talk about an improvement! It feels simple, easy to maneuver and best of all, they didn't screw with a whole lot. I can click away and not have any issues. Smooth and easy. Which, sadly, leads me to the rest of the interface. The auction house...oh the auction house. 3 words: It fails...badly. But we'll get to that one in a bit.

    Plot:
Oh dear, this is where Blizzard does a royal faceplant. Picking Diablo character's out of a hat and having a child write the story with them would be absolutely better than whatever nonsense the people at Blizzard bastardized. It's lazy, half-hearted and done without thought or care. It's the "that'll do" syndrome. I found myself frequently skipping scenes because frankly, I couldn't care. I can't even say anything nice about it because there's nothing nice to SAY about it. Boring, pointless, and badly done. Shame on you Blizzard.

Game-play: This is where it gets worse; much worse. Normal difficulty through Hell difficulty is OK I suppose, being that it's not terribly challenging but you do have to progress to a degree. It's easy if not a bit boring. But Inferno, let me tell you, is nigh impossible. It's as if someone turned the hardcore mega-death switch on and forgot to warn you. If I can play my level 60 Barbarian on the 4th Act in Hell Difficulty with 3 other players present, why shouldn't I be able to solo the FIRST QUEST on Act 2 of Inferno? Reason? Because Blizzard didn't bother to notice. Frequently, Rare and champion baddies are 3 times as strong as unique monsters, and drop better loot as well. Huh? That flies in the face of logic and reason. Oh and that goes for Legendary items as well. In some cases, magic items (blues) are even better than legendary items. Should this be? Certainly not. To put it simply: The loot system is wacko-jacko. Misc: Blizzard's biggest failing, among many, was the deployment of this game. I'm honestly tired of people saying, "Oh but if you have 3 million people logging in..." I DON'T CARE. You offer a product, you better damn well support it. This is a multi-million dollar operation, not some lemonade stand. I can't tell you how many times the AH has stopped working, bugged out, or simply failed to do what I asked. They've pushed back the date on the real money auction house 2 times already, and the commodities still isn't working. Another issue, which is certainly annoying, is the DRM problem. The only advantage: stops hackers from making items out of game. Disadvantages: Required internet connection, lag issues, server creates loot (not game) so I'm not even sure you get a fair shake, and if they have to reset the servers? You lose. You lose all the time.

    Summary:
It's bug riddled, lazy and sloppy work that's been branded amazing to clean up on your wallets. Thoughtlessness and sloppiness abounds and while it looks good and plays nice, it'll have you kicking and screaming about why it isn't better. Overall, 3/10. Nice try Blizz, maybe you can save it when your expansion comes out...but I doubt if anyone will be playing it still by then.

The devs seem to think that D2 was made to be a coop pve game, I don't know how they can claim this because Blizzard North made it and they are gone. This game boils down to a loot hunt for items with a single type of stat (each class is modified greatly by 1 stat), once you get the best gear, there isn't much left to do without pvp. After the last patch they made so many bad decisions and made the game so much worse it's astonishing this this a Blizzard game. SOLID 0.

Regarding gameplay, D3 majorly suffered from lacking proper incentives to kill things. Prior to a late nerf, the most efficient way of making gold, for example, was not to kill monsters or bosses, but to do speed runs breaking urns wearing gold find gear. This was extremely more lucrative than fighting any mobs. Further, there wasn't any substantial reward for killing elites (and no more reward for killing particularly hard elites). The item drops in the game were extremely subpar. The best way to play the game involved farming gold and buying items at the auction house, and using gimmicks to avoid difficult elite monsters. Put simply, there wasn't any incentive in D3 to be strategic or intelligent in gameplay. Further, farming wasn't rewarding as well, as having to break urns for hours to get a decent amount of gold on end is, to be honest, kind of pathetic. Regarding story-writing, put simply the story was incredibly cheesy and neither interesting nor immersive.

Regarding game-balance, my biggest problem is that D3 was not a finished product when it was released, and subsequent "patches" made drastic changes and detracted from the enjoyment of accomplishment in the game. Personally, as a gamer looking for a challenge, the game's major nerfs to Inferno, difficulty in group play trivialized beating the game and has made it less enjoyable, as (even) less skill is required. Nerfs to character class abilities were frustrating for a perfectionist wanting to play a complete game, and the nerf to core game mechanic of increased attack speed (halving its values) drastically altered the game in a unsatisfying way, as watching your long-played champion become far less effective is a major let-down.

Conclusion: Those looking for an immersive strategically challenging and rewarding game should not purchase D3, as it is quite the opposite.

The design is so far removed from Diablo 2 that it should not be called Diablo. Diablo 3 is better described as a mini-WOW arcade clone where no class is allowed to be truly unique and the player does not feel like a Hero. Remember how in Diablo 2 you'd Frozen Orb, Multishot, Knockback, Freeze, Whirlwind whole screens of demons? Well, not in Diablo 3. All class skills are on long cooldowns making all classes boring and uninteresting. There are no skills to distribute, no attributes to play with, no variety on gear, no reason to experiment at all. With no crowd control abilities, but with elite monsters now able to make you lose control of your character in many ways and for many seconds at a time, all builds become the same by necessity : very high resists, very high defense, very high life - in that order. It does not matter if you play a Wizard or a Barbarian, the fact that you will be regularly frozen standing on fire means you have to build and play like a melee class. In terms of class animations there are some very bad ones. We have a Monk invoking a large bell that drops from the sky. There is a Demon Hunter that shoots with what looks and sounds like a machine gun from CoD4. We have a Wizard who shoots red laser beams, and her best "free" skill is Spectral Blades - a melee attack. Atmosphere: one of the most pathetic I have seen in a game. You are supposed to be fighting the prime evils and their cohorts, but the prime evils keep talking to you, in plain English, with dialogue lines seemingly taken out of a "bully schoolmaster" script. Nothing more pathetic than to hear the Prime Evil demon saying "while you were trying to destroy my ballistas I was attacking the base of your keep". I was expecting to hear the demons roar, screech, yell incomprehensible things. Many players on the official forums feel betrayed for what Diablo 3 was promising to be and what it really is, and I am one of them. Expand

I will not complain about the connectivity issues and Blizzard's recent trend of fetishism for DRM. Multiplayer SC2 has some of the same faults, and it is a great game. Foreshadowing should be subtle. Every villain in D3 tells you exactly what they are going to do and when. The side dialogue all but explicitly says what is coming up next. The new characters that enter the realm are poorly developed. I do not care at all about them or know their motivations. It is the difference between The Godfather and Avatar. The Godfather has a great story. The characters are developed. There is emotion. The scenes are visually pleasing, but the director does not bash you with action at all times. Avatar sacrifices story on the altar of cool visual effects. It is so predictable and its characters are so vapid that you want to keep watching because you paid the $12 for the ticket, and damn it, you are going to get your full 3 hours because you paid for it.

The game is incredibly item dependent. I suppose that this is by design. Feel like you are getting killed too often? Head over to the auction house and buy some of our items. That is fine. It does not kill the game by itself. WoW did the same thing and it did not break the game. What really peeves me is bringing cash into it. Want to really smash the bad guys? Grab your mother's credit card and use some real life currency. Blizzard gets a cut of the action, of course. On that same point, there are very few times during a playthrough that you feel like you are in the right location for your level. I am usually smashing the baddies or getting manhandled like a boxing match between Mr. T and Michael Cera. The happy medium is difficult to find and fleeting.

Blizzard has been a reliable company over their whole history. I have never been disappointed in any of their previous titles. Players of any skill level could have a blast playing over and over again. They were visually pleasing. At the same time, the gameplay was smooth, and the story was engaging. Yes, D3 is visually pleasing considering that they needed to make a game that would run on a wide range of hardware. Yet, it lacks the essential elements of a good game. It has been dumbed down and destroyed in the pursuit of the almighty dollar. Blizzard used to be a team of artists that were the greatest at their craft. They have lost that slowly since WoW. No amount of bug fixes and balancing can fix that.

As a longtime fan of Blizzard games, I am incredibly disappointed in D3. I wasted $60 and 60 hours of my life. In the future, I will no longer blindly trust in Blizzard's ability to produce a good game. Their reputation has been tarnished so severely for me. It is time to put that silly dream out of its misery like a black powder rifle to old yeller's head.

I tried so hard to find something that I liked/enjoyed about this game, however there really not much there.

Gameplay: Derivative. No challenge, you are as good as your gear, not by talent or skill. Speaking of which the "skill tree" is essentially pre-determined. Music - Nice, you get a point. Graphics - Cartoonish. They lost the horror and despair evident in the previous games.

Character customisation - None to talk of.
Comabt - point and click. Pick two skills and point and click those skills at the monsters.

The game honestly felt more like World of Warcraft, then previous titles in the Diablo series. On a side note, there is no "hide" option from friends online. This is super annoying as I don't always want to "chat" but I don't want to "block" anyone either.

Additionally, I like to play single player games and am not a fan of multi-player online games. And yet one has to be logged in to play this single player. I was going to rate the game 2, but after reviewing this game in a thoughtful manner - it only deserves a 1.

The levels are very poorly designed; with many recurring invariant levels, and the most atrocious act being the direct copy of the Mount Arreat's theme pixel for pixel from the previous expansion. It's a mixed feeling, especially coming from Blizzard, it's as though the production theme picked up full speed during the designing of Act I, after which it just derails very rapidly to a repeated Act 3, and Act 4 being a huge mindless rush to the final boss. The replayability value of the game is very low, with people getting bored with the grind to even complete it the first time round, especially the abysmally difficult progression between difficulty levels, without, of course, resulting to the auction house. There are 2 sides of the coin here, as people spending money or gold for obscenely powerful items would be rapidly bored with its content. In a sense, the whole central theme of the dungeon-crawl feel of the original diablo series is now destroyed with this new effect, and if I may use an analogy, some crude form of a corporate ladder climb that is accentuated if one has the monetary resources to execute it. It is such a horrible game that I feel compelled to actually create a metacritic account for the sole purpose of typing this review in order to warn people off the most ridiculously over-hyped game probably in the history of the universe (13.7 billion years). The game is designed to ridiculously long, with one typically dying over 9000 times before reaching Diablo himself on inferno difficulty, and along with the repetitive content and the drop rates which are probably lower than the odds of drawing a royal-flush hand in Texas Hold-em. I have not checked yet but I'm probably filing a complaint to the UN human rights watch as this actually constitutes some rudimentary form of human mental torture that is probably on par with the detainees in Guantanamo Bay.

Your class needs main stats, vitality, crits, attack speed.
Like WoW, higher level item will always better than the lower one.
Because higher level item offer more Stats which is simple because Diablo 3 itemization is all about stacking those stat, making itemization nothing more than stat sticks.
Every other classes and build use this kind of item. There is no build defining item.

    - NO builds.
    - One dimensional Gem to socket.
With the simplified stat that each class chooses, every player are pigeonholed to use only certain gemstone because gemstones only offer stats.

So, for a game to just play through the story once or twice, it would be a pretty good action game. The problem is that the game system design decisions leave Diablo 3 being an extremely shallow and unrewarding ARPG experience, with little to no longevity. In D3 they've basically eliminated all the character building elements of RPG games: there are no attribute points to assign, and there aren't any skill trees to build your character with. As you level up a character their attribute points will be automatically assigned for you, and you can change their abilities to any new combination of abilities whenever you like . So, if you are a Barbarian in D3, there is absolutely nothing differentiating you from every other Barbarian in the game. While permanent character choices in RPG games can be harsh and overly punitive to new players, in Diablo 3 the impermanence and lack of important character decisions just goes way too far. The whole concept of re-rolling new characters to try different, interesting, or unique character builds is gone. What's even worse than the non existent character building, is the way that the D3 team designed the items. The ARPG genre has traditionally found longevity via providing players with an exciting item hunt. In just about every other game in this genre, as you level a character you will find fun and powerful items of various types which add to your character's effectiveness and make the game more interesting. For example, you might find a sword that has a chance to summon zombies when it strikes enemies. These types of items are largely missing in Diablo 3, and the items that do have cool, unique effects are generally so bad that nobody would ever want to use them. Most of the items that are highly coveted in D3 are desired simply because they have higher stats of the appropriate type, and there's very little emphasis on making the items actually interesting and unique; they're just stat sticks. Also, because there's an auction house in the game, where players can sell items for real money or in-game gold, the way the game distributes items is fairly infuriating. In an attempt to prevent the item market from being overly saturated with powerful items, Diablo 3's designers made it nearly impossible for players to find great items. While powerful items should be rare in any RPG game, in Diablo 3 you feel like you have a better chance of being struck by lightning than actually ever finding nice things for you character. Players in D3 primarily get powerful items in one of two ways: they either pull out their credit card and buy it on the real money auction house, or, they sell a bunch of mediocre/decent items in the gold auction house and save up to finally one day buy something great. Even if you do manage to find something incredible via game play, the way the items work there will be a 4/5 chance your character will have no use for it at all. So, if you don't want to buy items for real cash, you're going to be spending a lot of your time staring at the gold auction house interface, selling and buying items. I'm sorry, but that just isn't my idea of fun and compelling game play. Finally, there is no player vs. player combat in Diablo 3, even though it was a feature that was supposed to be there at the game's launch. There are also no completely random maps in D3. All similar dungeon crawler games, even indie ones, have better random maps. Honestly, Diablo 3 is one of the most boring ARPG experiences I can recall being a part of. There's just not anything that's even remotely interesting about my characters, the items, the item hunt, or the game in general. I've really tried to like D3, I've owned the game since it's release on May 15th and have come back to try it after the new patches. Unfortunately though, this has to be one of the biggest disappointments in my 30 years or so of playing video games. Expand

Next time Blizzard, think about what you're doing. Expand

Auto leveled stats, maps that point you where to go like you are 10 years old or retarded, laggy forced online play even for single player and a storyline that had me bored not even half way through the game. Diablo 1 and 2 are a couple of my favourite games of all time, why did Activision have to f*** Blizzard North and put out this horrendous attempt at a sequel.

My son bought this game. He played it for like 3-4 days? then quit and said it was boring. So decided not to play it. So I played the game and got interesting, mainly on the Witch doctor character, and the exploding frogs skill. I also played the wizard, that got all the way to nightmare and I started getting better items. When I played solo, and I could not get pass champion bosses without dying. I became frustrated and quit playing because progress is hard to attain. Back to Black Ops. Expand

Played this game a lot at launch, took a break, and recently picked it up again. Around launch time, things revolved too much around the real money auction house. They still do. Around launch time, things revolved too much around the real money auction house. They still do. Even though the developers continue to make changes to itemization, and while setting the monster power level increases XP gain and magic find chance, finding legendary items is still super rare and requires tons of grinding. The auction house is the carrot on a stick tempting you to bypass that grind by paying real money or tons of gold for end game items. End game items are pretty lackluster thanks to the changes in character development. The damage your skills do is now purely based on your weapon DPS which is tied to your character's chief attribute point. So if you're a barb all you'll care about is strength and vitality, a demon hunter or monk dex and vit, wizard int and vit, etc. So when you see a new item, if it doesn't have those bonuses to those attributes, it's essentially useless with a few rare exceptions. You also no longer have control over how to distribute your attribute points narrowing the list of viable builds for each class. Additionally, you unlock skills in order as you level up. "Runes" can be selected for each skill which augment or totally change how it works. Skills can also be swapped out at will once unlocked. This helps maintain some variety in play, but the number of skills are pretty scant compared to Diablo II. PvP was recently implemented, but most people seem to be doing PvE runs for legendaries or unique sets. Very few people are playing compared to Diablo II, a game nearly 15 years old at this point which should tell you something about how long times fans have been receiving it. Unless you're new to action RPGs or have never played a Diablo game, it's hard to recommend Diablo III. Expand

First, I love the game. It's an awesome game. It's a perfection of what Diablo 2 did well already. There's one small problem though that ruins it: I CAN'T PLAY IT. For an MMO to have a rocky launch is one thing; for a game that I, like a LOT of people, am planning on playing largely solo, it's totally unacceptable. Servers have been down or spotty most of launch day thus far. RightFirst, I love the game. It's an awesome game. It's a perfection of what Diablo 2 did well already. Servers have been down or spotty most of launch day thus far. Right now I'm sitting in line to get in because the servers are full - FOR A SINGLE PLAYER GAME. Even if they get them up and running, you'll never be able to play the game without an internet connection - so you can't play on a plane, at the airport (unless there's free wi-fi; most are still pay), or anywhere without a connection. Fail. Expand

My one major complaint is that the game never feels very difficult, especially on Normal. There are frustrating moments, hordes of baddies, and increasing difficulty levels, but the same feeling of utter defeat never really happens as it did in the past.

For all the game's missteps, though, you certainly can't accuse Blizzard of phoning it in - if anything, the game suffers from the tendency to try a little to hard at times to evolve the design. [Aug 2012, p.61]

When it works, Diablo III is the best of the Diablo games. When it doesn't, all it does is make you mad. [July 2012, p.54]
