This DLC shot life back into the game, but ultimately D2 is still a mess. Once you get max level you realize there is absolutely nothing to do, and that the grind was really not worth it. They need to take an extra year to develop D3.

I remembered why I quit D1 after TTK... While gunplay remains top notch, the grind and story/lore being relegated to things you have to read to get the clear picture is where it continues to fall short. The weapons are so horribly balanced it makes most weapons impractical. Exotics are useless except for one exotic for warlocks which makes them invulnerable.

I would give this game a 1 rating but I think it deserves a little credit for the story. So I'm giving it a two. Great story but short and all in all it doesn't make up for the horrible decisions of the development team, the horrible implementation and the bugs.

We finally have a half decent narrative and some more things to do, unfortunately its an incredibly high price to pay. We are basically funding Bungie's incompetence at this point. This expansion is nothing special, mediocre at best, which is a nice step up.

Gambit is broken at a fundamental level the worst of pvp and pve, certain builds are beyond a must and the match making is as it has been since destiny one unbalanced and in need of a massive rework.

Strikes are unrewarding as ever, little loot and seemenly bugged vendors make it a waste of time to play beyond the presented challenges.

The campaign is cliche and predictable from the start, what could have been an interesting moment is ruined by a lazy fade to black.

The loot system is utter frustration personified, for all the hype of random loot, purple drops are as rare as ever. What could have been a drip feed of loot (see diablo 3 or the division), always looking for the god roll time is little more than an endless grind overseen by apparently broken rng system that favorites duplicates above all else.

Crucible well what can i say? that hasn't already been said by a thousand different posts on a thousand different sites since this game launched? I wont waste my time.

Sadly i think forsaken will be in years to come Bungies swan song, looked back on as a squandered chance to redeem themselves after the launch of destiny 2.

In conclusion if your looking for a flawed grindy often uninspiring game while waiting for either the division 2 or Anthem then i recommend destiny 2 forsaken. It is ultimately a hollow and uninspiring experience , bogged down by bizarre design choices that have failed many other games. A grind that is as long as it is unfulfilling, made bearable by above average gun play.

The fact is that this does not stand on its own making the price point issue a valid one, you are basically buying the game again in order for the game to become what it should have been 1 year ago, you are paying them to add content so that it now is close to the amount it should have been on day 1. But greed is good, right? No, it drives customers away and to be honest only a few of those I played with in the beginning seem to even consider this expansion.
Destiny 2 simply launched with to little content, amount of maps, the size of some, the strikes and so on and so forth. The raids on the other hand has always been great in this game but not everyone raids.
There are a list of features that should have been in the game day one, like how gear and upgrading now works. The daily and weekly bounty feature is how it should have been long ago. Those I think are outside the expansion so at least something.

    The good.
The story is by far the best one in Destiny, it could easily have been longer though so a missed opportunity even though it is the best.
The new areas are good, adding a zone for max-level players with a high gear level is a good move.
The addition made to the subclasses are well done.

    The bad.
The price, at a lower price like say 20$ without the season pass and 35$ with the season pass and this would have been an easier sell. As it stand I am not going to recommend that anyone buy it, wait until they drop the price.
While the story is good it is a missed opportunity in how most part of it could easily been made longer and more engaging.

What else to say? Bungie once again does what they did in the first Destiny. So I guess that in Destiny 3 they will remove all these features and again sell us a game with less content then it should have.

Enjoy a refreshing gun meta? Pulse rifles/Hand cannons and shotguns in the special slot are all you will see.

Like PvE action? There's a great deal of amazing content and lore to explore here. However... to progress your power level (light level) to fight more powerful enemies, you will eventually need to complete weekly rewards, daily rewards, and find random powerful drops. The weekly rewards involve going through eight (Gambit counts given the group stomping) matches with the aformentioned problems. People have begun to use "honor buddy" like tools to feign activity while AFK. I can't blame them for doing it given the matchmaking failure.

Like intense Raid end game? The previous raid encounters do not scale, so you will always find the enemies to be rather laughably easy for what is considered a raid. Most bosses are now single-phased (also problematic is that while there used to be caps on damage for each class of weapon, newer exotics blow right past these and become "must takes" for max DPS). For the newer raid, it is obviously more difficult now and enjoyable. But to get to the power level to raid (550) you will need to grind weeklies and dailies from 500. Which means PvP, which means the aforementioned issues.

Not giving it less than a 5 as the single player experience is truly quite good but hot dang, they really let the PvP aspect go to the dogs.

Art, Design and Sound Team are doing a real great job. The universe also feels big and untapped. That's about all I can say about what's Good in Destiny 2.
The game selling point was Story. Destiny 2 on release day was done in 8h on average for 60 bucks (1 year later it's free ~).
One year and a half later, 2 dlcs and 1 extension later. For 40 bucks more you get 8 more hours of Story.

One year and a half later, 2 dlcs and 1 extension later. For 40 bucks more you get 8 more hours of Story. Kinda disappointing for a Story-driven game. Way too much in-build "movies". Most of the game I feel more like a spectator than actor of this game. Being mute for all of the game except for 5 sentences in Forsaken reinforce that.
And not a lot happens in those 16h in average. It takes less than an hour to get back the "Light" which apparently Story wise was dramatic. Characters development (for the characters involved in the story, not only the MC) is close to nonexistant.
The maps are big, but empty for most part (Sparrow (vehicle) unlocked after finishing the base campaign (so 8h) feels cheap)).
Not enough variety in game-play : No vehicles where you can rampage around. No spatial fights. Too few enemies (in variety and presence in the map). "Supers" feel underwhelming (in a Hero way) for me. Cool-downs are long, abilities aren't interactive. I still don't understand why we can't wear more than 1 Exotic at the time.. As a PvE grinding game, "breaking" the game is what i relish in.

Overall a decent game. But i can't really recommend it when there's a lot more interesting games available. The whole pricing of Destiny 2 is a joke too. I just hope that Forsaken will make Bungie goes toward a more richer game, so that when an eventual Sequel pops out i'll try it out - when it will be free.

In fact, this expansion brought a lot of things that just made the game an extremely tedious mess like adding items that are somewhat rare just for the simple act of infusing the weapons.

Factions have been put on a permanent hiatus with seemingly no return in sight.

Weapon still feel weak and overall ability recharge rates are still worse than the previous game's end.

While you do get some new destinations, over all you have the same enemies you have been dealing with since the beginning. There are the Scorn, some of which have SOME new abilities, but mostly it will be things you have seen before. I would say this is a good mix between fallen and hive enemies (As that is how they portray them) but they do so in the worst of way, seeming to make boring re-skins of enemies you have fought before. The largest ones act like ogres, there are the generic sniper enemies that act exactly like fallen enemies, you have the small suicide rushing ones, and you even get a shaman that enacts an effect like the servitors. There are a few enemies that try something new, but still very simple.

The story itself tries to tug at your heartstrings by killing off the one character that has had the most screen time, sadly they didn't actually develop this character at all, or really give a good reason for your character wanting revenge other than "They killed him and he was a leader".

The barons themselves could have led to some interesting fights had they stuck with the ideas of beating them at their own games, but sadly, like most bosses in Destiny they just wound up as larger versions of enemies that already exists with maybe one or two new abilities (if that). The only "challenge" was grinding light levels, which boiled down to just playing Crucible matches until your light was high enough and then going through the DLC (which last about 1-2 hours tops if you're not rushing).

Overall it's rather disappointing that the best this company can do is bring it to just below the bar they set with the previous game and then have audacity to not only charge the player $40 for sub-par work, but then ask for another $30 for what would be free updates in any other game.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT buy the DLC unless you can get it for $10 or less because that is all it is worth.

Forsaken: It's a step in the right direction. I've currently completed the Last Wish raid, reset my Gambit rank, and absorbed all the new content as of 10/2018. Random perks on gear make you chase for best roll versions of your favorite items. The campaign is much better and more interesting than all previous Destiny 2 content. What plagues Destiny 2: Forsaken is that we have seen deeper, more compelling iterations of its game systems in other looter titles like Diablo and Warframe.
Additionally, all gear prior to Forsaken is now worthless, having been arbitrarily excluded from the new loot tables. As a result, you end up with endless copies of the same items (Edge Transit). You're also sent back to previous zones for bounties that end up being dull gameplay because every last bit of loot you get from those zones isn't subject to the new item structure. It's a very half-baked affair.

    Suggestions:
    - expanded loot tables
    - all items redeemable via collections at an appropriate cost
    - augmented perk/traits for armor/weapons
    - expanded mod stats
    - the reduced drop rate for exotics is excellent, but you need drop protection from duplicates
    - bounties need more compelling rewards, see previous suggestions
    - either put in a transmogrification system for gear or update previous gear to the new loot table.

I purposefully avoided buying the first two expansions at release because I knew they were going to be just as shallow or worse than the first two expansions of the first game. I was correct, they had incredibly weak stories and barely any added content. Forsaken, however, proves to be yet another Taken King-level overhaul. There will be mindless haters saying that it's literally worse than Desert Bus, and there will be raving fanboys saying that it's literally better than every top 10 game combined, but honestly, when it comes down to it this was just a good, enjoyable and fun expansion.

DLC takes a lot of people and time to finish, so logically it costs something. When D2 first announced their release i was happy... Till the point i saw they where downsizing quickplay to 4vs4... It's a no for me.

All the things I read about microtransactions makes my blood boil. I hate the current "buy this half finsihed game + 2 expansions and you know what? We'll toss some bullsh*t microtransactions in there too" mentality...

When I learned they changed pvp to 6vs6 again and I was really game starved at that moment I thought about giving it a shot. It was my lucky day cause the base game was free on the PSN store. I downloaded it, played some pvp etc but it was not more as a mediocre experience and the pvp felt kinda wannabe.

After watching some streamers and noticing that the pc version is so much more appealing, I decided to follow my nostalgia for D1 and give it a shot...

I played only a couple of hours yersterday... So I'm not up to date with the current state involving microtransactions, repeatability and mindless grinding etc....

BUT MY GOD!!! THIS GAME IS JUST AWESOME!! A totally different experience from the ps4! The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is fluent and fun and the story and cinematics are so entertaining and gorgeous... I think it's the first time in my gaming history that I willingly watch the cutscenes and enjoy them fully... I even look forward to leveling and completing the story... And who knows... I'll even throw in some endgame pve content!!

I bought the base game + 3 expansions for 38 euro so its MORE THEN WORTH IT IMO.

P.s.: Yes, the mmo aspects aren't as deep as Warframe or Path of Exile, yes you can't pick up as many bullsh*t as in Skyrim or The witcher and yes there aren't professions or anything else to do (I mean WTF why would you want to blacksmith or tailor while gaming... weirdos) but I think you guys just chose the wrong game for that... I love the relatively "simpel" approach of D2... For casual players at least... Can't comment if you are a "I live in my mom's basement and play 15 hours a day" kinda guy.

Just because Bungie made massive screw-ups (the curse of the disappointment and a less disappointing Warmind) we need to remember that they orchestrated one of the greatest franchise of video game history Halo. Let's not forget that they also made The Taken King, which it is seen and Destiny 1's savior. What I am trying to say is that Bungie is capable of creating an iconic and Forsaken is nothing short of a masterpiece. Oh, and for those oblivious who say that the expansion is overpriced and that you have to pay 150$ if you haven't got the expansions, there is a bundle that you can buy for sixty bucks that include Destiny 2, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken. In my opinion, that IS worth the sixty dollars. Take a look at the taken king. It was also 40$ and only included 16-18 GB of content. Forsaken is ALSO 40$ and it has 47 GB OF CONTENT. That is almost enough to make Forsaken a stand-alone game. Therefore, be happy that you got a full game worth's of story, content, lore, equipment, and exotics for just 60 bucks. Expand

Let me just say I was not a fan of D2 and its first Expansion Curse of Osiris, these were bland poorly thought out shallow experiences. With Forsaken, MUCH has changed and it is clear that the developer has listened AT LAST to what the community has been asking for:

    - Random rolls.
    -Variety of end game activities.
    - A large open explorable area with a vast amount of changing activities.
    - Armour sets/mods that allow specific weapon and class builds.
    - Pvp is actually fun again!
-New Gambit mode that combines PVP/PVE is outstanding.
    - New weapon types like Bows are ALOT of fun.

All this and the new RAID is still to drop. The new areas are much, much bigger. NPC's have bounties/daily missions and the economy has been completely overhauled as has the shader system allowing free application of customisation on weapons.

Exotics are now Rare and meaningful again which is fantastic. If you do receive an exotic it actually feels special again as opposed to D2's "participation medal" system where everyone was a "winner".

Forsaken is NOT like previous expansions and really has to be experienced. I would be careful before listening to people complaining about this expansion without really doing your research or speaking to people who are playing still.

Well done Bungie, on this occasion you actually managed to get it right!!

The devs heard, chewed on feedback, and replied with a great DLC, so grab your handcannons, play that funky music, and go hunt the enemies of humanity. ;-) Expand

I love to see all the bots with only one review, It's clear they just made an account to give this a 0. People pay $60 for a 20-30hrs experience with spider-man but complain about $40 for what can be 100's of hrs.

Now to review the game. Bungie demonstrated, with Forsaken, what a good quality game should be. It IS sad that they stumble their way to this but the problems of the past

Now to review the game. Bungie demonstrated, with Forsaken, what a good quality game should be. It IS sad that they stumble their way to this but the problems of the past have been captured in their respective reviews. This is about forsaken and they did a great job. They brought a Lot of content for PvP and PvE. The same excellent gun play with a lot more content to try it on.

The Dreaming City is very polished. The secrets, the quests, the story are all great. I think that the best comment I can say about Forsaken is that --It is so much better and interesting than what we had so far that it will be hard for non forsaken owners to imagine what Bungie was able to achieve--

I am so glad I decided after all this time to give Destiny 2 a try after their trash launch.
The story is not only there but it was thoroughly enjoyable and caught me surprised which is something I never expected Destiny to do.
Additionally Gambit is the best game mode added to this game sense the beginning. I hope they keep the quality up. Keep in mind when I started playing

Keep in mind when I started playing everything was streamlined so I leveled through the content super fast so maybe my experience is biased as I avoided huge amounts of grind that others did not.

10/10 because honestly I hope they keep the quality up going forward.

As someone who never got the original game when it came out, I got the legendary edition which includes the base game, two mini-expansion AND Forsaken expansion for $60 and if you ask me, it's a fantastic deal. So if you're new and like me didn't get in till now, don't listen to people telling you it's a ripoff, it's actually the best time to get into the game.

As for the expansion itself: it's awesome. As a newcomer, it has so much content it's unbelievable. I and my buddy genuinely feel overwhelmed with the amount of stuff to do. Simply put it's now the game that was actually pitched by Bungie.

Great game. Solid graphics, dynamic level and loot scaling, endless endgame content. Whatever the issues were at launch they've been overwhelmingly eliminated. Looking forward to whats to come!

The core of the (PvE) game is decent, shooting's fun, the story in this expansion actually appears to be going somewhere (unlike the base game which was just weak, story-wise)

PvP is a different story. New players are basically just meat for the grinder. PvP is likely only to become fun once you get past the gear hurdle, before that you'll just get killed so fast you'll barely be able to contribute. Conversely enemies appear so tanky that your pea-shooter will do very little. Unless you can put up with the massive grind to get over the initial gear hurdle I cannot recommend this game for PvP (which is shoe-horned into everything btw, so you cannot just ignore it)

The game also likes to put timers on everything, this is a game you either play casually or hardcore, there's just no reasonable in-between possible. Hopefully the next expansion sorts that out.

But the main downfall of the game is the incessant connection issues, which, unlike other games with P2P matchmaking means you will lose all your progress. it doesn't matter whether it's PvP, a Strike (dungeon) or any other activity (barring stuff with friends/clanmates, possibly), if the game disconnects you lose everything. There's no way to rejoin a squad and to top it off the game will tell you you're a jerk for leaving a competitive game early (despite the issue clearly being on their end)

I've verified my connection and it's fine, this is also the only online game with this issue so I'm fairly confident in stating the issue is not on my end.

It's a shame that the networking is a serious downer for an otherwise enjoyable game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Forsaken is the newest expansion to Destiny 2, bringing Lots of content including great new story. Bungie Listened to the community and fixed many problems, in terms of weapon slot options, stat randomization, pvp ranks introduction, new activities (gambit), bounties etc. The gunplay is deeply satisfying, while you're playing in many different breath-taking environments (hours' worth of rewarding exploration) with gorgeous visuals , playing through new content, which lasts for hours. The game is available on most platforms, and is open to casual and serious players while bringing a challenge to everyone, either with pvp or the endgame raid.

However, the grind can become repetitive and sometimes I struggled to see the endgame and the point of continuous repetitive grind, once I had done everything (takes a long time to get to this point). Also, it is quite expensive and bungie killed the only interesting character in the destiny universe, Cayde-6.

Destiny is a game that you can spend hours or even days playing without running out of things to do. Beyond that, once you finally think that you’ve finished everything, bungie (the makers of the destiny franchise) releases a whole new world of options. Now while the game itself is wonderful, there are definitely a few drawbacks. For one, the cost of the game alone is enough to discourage many players, which may be one reason why sometimes it might take a long time for match making to finish. While destiny has some obvious issues and/or drawbacks, in my opinion, the pros heavily outway the cons. If you don't have the money to spend for an expensive triple A game, this game may not be for you. However, if you love playing through the campaign of a game whilst also losing yourself in a rich story, this game is perfect for you.

The expansion is huge and especially the raid is awesome. After 500 hours of playtime I can safely say that the game doesn't get boring. But I still think the Taken King was better in D1.

The characters, especially Petra Venj, showed great emotion, where she is mad at Uldren for his crimes, but also sad that he's gone. The spider is a great character and a wonderful addition to Destiny, and makes leveling up gear much easier. The lore from the ahamkara bones and wish-ender bow make for an interesting read. The Ace in the Hole mission made me super sad, listening to Cayde and who he thought would kill him, and the Ace of Spades is a great gun and super fun to use. Expand

The death of Cayde-6 was redeemed by a pile of content that finally attracts players to Destiny 2 as much as they were attracted to it with the great The Taken King. But the road to another success was long and tricky, for both fans and developers. [Issue#291]

Forsaken continues Destiny’s great tradition of taking a lackluster opening salvo and beefing it up with content that makes the game feel complete. Were it not for the superhuman light level climb in front of me, I would have absolutely no issue recommending this the same way I recommended The Taken King. If there was a version of original Destiny you had to play, that was it, just as Forsaken is the definite version of Destiny 2 - as long as you’re willing to make that climb.

Forsaken is flawed, and yet it is the best Destiny 2 expansion so far. There is nothing that elicits exuberance, but if you are a hardcore Guardian, do not miss it.
