Forsaken also features an all-new competitive and collaborative endgame activity, called Gambit. A first-of-its kind for Destiny, Gambit is a new, hybrid 4v4 mode that merges both PvE and PvP experiences into an epic battle. This entirely new way to play Destiny 2 offers something for all types of gamers to enjoy, appealing to those who thrive on the competitive challenge of PvP gameplay, while seamlessly blending the collaborative and unpredictable elements of PvE. Forsaken will persistently be a different game with new things to do and discover each and every week, and I don’t see that slowing down anytime soon.

Bungie has done an excellent job in, not just creating enough content for the game’s fourth season and start of the second year, but in reviving a game that stuttered after its initial launch.

Ultimately is Destiny 2: Forsaken worth the price of admission? Let's be honest, Bungie bungled vanilla Destiny 2 about as badly as they could have, saving turning it into a 2D side scroller (what up Zelda II: the Adventure of Link!). In the past year they have rolled back every major change implemented from D1 to D2. This is the game we should have had from the beginning. There is still work to be done, but the core of the experience is fixed. And what we have is a new version of that original game I poured hundreds of hours into. A version I am looking forward to pouring in hundreds more.

Destiny 2 is redeemed at last, with a weighty expansion that brings back the best elements of the past and adds some welcome new ideas to the franchise.

The sequel’s best expansion by a distance. This update delivers a lively campaign that deserves to lure lapsed players back into the Fallen fold. [Issue#155, p.97]

By channelling community feedback into an all-encompassing package, Forsaken finally makes Destiny 2 feel essential again.

If this review reads like a roller coaster of emotions, that's because Destiny 2: Forsaken, like all things post-2010 Bungie, is lopsided.

Has a compelling story that, somewhat carries over into the endgame, at least far better than any other story in Destiny 2 has. Regardless all the missions are interesting and unique and the new bounties offer creative missions and bosses to fight against. Really impressed so far, but we wont see the full scope of this expansion until around three weeks in. Not to mention the new Gambit mode is absolutely fantastic. For the most part its won me back. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, I must accept that Forsaken is how the game should have gone in the beginning, at least Destiny 2, the excessively high price to be a DLC, and really that an iconic character died from the saga is not very good, however, the amount of content, new activities like Gambito have revived the game. It's worth it, not every penny, but it happens. Giving this game less scoring is to underestimate the quality of some things. Giving more points is overestimating the relationship between price / content. Expand

What Bungie heard, apparently, was "Bungie, we'd like Destiny 2 to be our second job." Because that's what D2 Forsaken is. Bungie's balance team is schizophrenic once again and fails to find a good middle ground. We went from an extremely casual game to a game that's designed only for the streamers and the no-lifers who can spend 8+ hours per day playing.

Once you hit 500 and reach the light level soft cap progress slows to a crawl. To make a potentially long post shorter, while there's a bunch more available to do, if you're not grinding the daily challenges every day your progression is going to be minimal (and there are daily challenges for crucible, gambit, strikes, and more). The weekly challenges often require daily grinding as well. For instance, on Dreaming City my current weekly challenge is to finish 3 weekly bounties. One of the weekly bounties is to finish 8 daily bounties. Ikora's weekly challenge was to finish 20 other bounties.

They've added bounties to every single planet. While you don't technically have to bother with them the fact is the significantly increased cost to infuse (upgrade) weapons and armor practically mandates that you do them as often as possible in order to build up a stockpile of planetary materials -- especially since they nerfed the drop rate of materials from patrols, events, and chests between patch 2.0.0 and 2.0.0.1.

If you can only spare a couple hours a day, your progress will be tiny. If you can only spend a couple hours a week... well, you're gonna be stuck around the 500 soft cap for a long time.

Always remember that D2 originally got glowing reviews early on before the honeymoon period wore off. When people get through the story segment of Forsaken they're in for a rude awakening about end game grinding. The level of grind now is probably the worst it's been since vanilla D1, back when upgrading armor and weapons required planetary mats, glimmer, and ascendant shards/cores.

Same sh*t different place, it's boring, dull and nothing new to play, killing the same enemies since d1 over and over again repetitive and dull
