  • Summary: A retro-inspired 2D Action RPG set in the distant future. CrossCode combines 16-bit SNES-style graphics with butter-smooth physics, a fast-paced combat system, and engaging puzzle mechanics, served with a gripping sci-fi story.

CrossCode shows that the size of a developer and its overall budget doesn't determine the quality of the game. AAA developers can sink all the money in the world into a title, and it may still lack that special something. That isn't the case here. Radical Fish Games' CrossCode is a masterpiece action RPG by a small-scale studio, and it's damn-near perfect in nearly every way.

CrossCode is a stellar game that mimics an MMO, but solves the repetitive nature of that genre by turning it into a single-player action game, utilizing the genre’s lyricism in a magnificent way.

CrossCode is one of the most endearing and fun action RPGs I've ever played, though it's not without its frustrations.

CrossCode is a funky, charming and sometimes even too extensive action RPG with a pleasant nostalgic side.

A labour of love that serves as homage to 16-bit RPG classics and MMOs, but also manages to stand on its two feet, even though technically not everything is as solid as it should be.

CrossCode is a beautiful world loaded with puzzles of all kinds. If you can find your center among this storm of separate genres, you might really enjoy this game.

One problem with it right now is that there isn't a lot of story, but again its in beta. For 20$ you get 15+ hours of single player fun. And that's with the beta. Even more when the full game releases. I would recommend this game even before I would recommend AAA titles like BF1 and Titanfall 2. OK, well I didn't expect it, but this game got me hooked line and sinker.
Great on all counts: good action/adventure, combats are challenging but varied, the scenario & lore are well written, characters are likable and not shallow, graphics are good (for a 2D pixel style of course), lots of smart puzzles that integrate well with the rest, music is supporting well the experience.
I have honestly no complaint, I had a great time. This is the kind of game I'd like to see more often! Keep up the good work!

Waiting as a central game mechanic, guaranteed enemy hits, overly convoluted puzzles for the sake of convolution, absolutely obnoxious enemies, no graphic indication of different heights for platforming etc. There are basically no quality of life elements. Instead there are countless instances in which game design decisions have been made that are just plain annoying. The frustrating part is that these decisions could have easily been different without any drawbacks whatsoever. There are times where it seems like somebody deliberately chose to make parts of this game as annoying and unpleasant as possible. Expand
