Game is a game which good players can shine and stomp entire teams. It is what people ask for when they ask for skill based. Totally worth the money although expansion isn't worth getting since BO:2 comes out.

I'll break this review down into three parts, singleplayer, multiplayer, and overview.

To begin with, the singleplayer was good. I like the storyline, as I liked the MW2 storyline and it basically picks up from there. It's really similar to the MW2 storyline as the missions don't really chance all that much (go around shoot bad guys and follow the waypoints), but you know I don't mind

To begin with, the singleplayer was good. I like the storyline, as I liked the MW2 storyline and it basically picks up from there. It's really similar to the MW2 storyline as the missions don't really chance all that much (go around shoot bad guys and follow the waypoints), but you know I don't mind that style all that much. The characters have personalities and the mission was easy to follow. There were some plot twists that while painful were actually well placed. The singleplayer was just great. Not the mention the Spec Ops missions which are fun, HOWEVER, multiplayer Spec Ops is terrible. I would be playing with a friend on Survival and it was as if we were in two different instances of play. I got eighty kills on one round, while he stood in a corner and didn't get any, while on his screen he got seventy kills and I only got two or something like that. The connection system is broke as hell.

As for the multiplayer, it had so much potential it's not even funny. The multiplayer brought in the strike package system, where you could either earn assault streaks, support streaks, or specialist streaks. This was truly innovative in my opinion, as compared to previous Call of Dutys you were pretty much stuck with one set of killstreaks. The guns were balanced for the most part with very few exceptions, such as the MP7. The maps were beautiful and just overall well made. The issue with multiplayer, as is with every COD game since COD4, are the freaking hackers. Towards the middle and end of MW3s life, you had a one in five chance of entering into a game with a hacker. It's really quite annoying, and to make matters even worse, Infinity Ward just says "screw you" to us and doesn't fix it. Hackers ruined multiplayer for me.

All things considered however, I never regretted purchasing this game. I didn't buy a single DLC, because that's just stupid in the first place to pay $60 for stuff that should have already been in the game. This game is still purchasable, as not EVERY lobby contains a hacker and the singleplayer is still worth it. Disregard all of the low ratings for this game as they never gave it a chance. I've played MW3 for about 300 hours and still liked it.

Well mates, I'm not going to judge MW3 on the basis of how extra-ordinary Bf3 may or may not be (I'm a BF3 man myself, though ;P). I'd much rather view the game as it was meant to be: standing on it's own two feet. If there's one thing I'm not, It's a CoD kiss-up. MW3, has so much to discuss.
The Single-Player, like pretty much every CoD game for me at least, has been pretty darn great. I

The Single-Player, like pretty much every CoD game for me at least, has been pretty darn great. I sincerely enjoyed the story they gave me. It was quite captivating, and certain scenes in the campaign almost had me to the point of tears. Coming on to multi-player, that was fun. You can really have a blast when your playing with friends and, whether you're screwing around or playing dead-serious, it can be memorable. Especially when crazy **** happens. However, as many others may have pointed out, in this technologically advanced time, a certain amount of innovation is expected. People would eventually get tired of a tweak of Modern Warfare's multiplayer, and I believe IW failed to realise this. And, due to the fierce competition other titles offered it this year, I'm quite glad people came to their senses, and called out CoD for how it failed to provide a new experience. I don't know if the engine is even worth mentioning :P Anyone with half a brain can comprehend that this is, in no way, a realistic shooter. Considering it one is testament to idiocy. The graphics are God-awful, with barely any change from MW2. And the sound.............I shudder even thinking about it. So, as a game, though it's not bad, it has wayyyyyy to much to work on. And, until that happens, I must say: Sorry Activision, you just gave me Modern Warfare again.

The multiplayer is full of hackers, the CoD support is bad, they will make their work better. Next bad is akimbo and overpowered guns, I hate FMG9 akimbo, it's too strong, but other guns is better, graphics is bad, it needs more work on it, maps is good, I like lockdown, because it's map from Czech republic and I live here, best is hardhat and dome for me, but maps like downturn, interchange etc. is really bad.

The singleplayer is ok, they have improved it a little bit but the campaign is still very short (6 hours) and the multiplayer is just a joke. I hate the feel of it, and everything is just unbalanced such as the spawn points, weapon damage, and so on. The only thing I really enjoyed was the survival and challenges. But thats it.

I finished the single player campaign of this game the same day I bought it. I don't mind short campaigns if they are fun, but this is very short and boring.
The game is so heavily scripted it makes it obvious that Infinity Ward is out of ideas in terms of innovative gameplay. They use scripted events as fillers, and on top of that they manage to lack imagination in that field as well.

How many times can we enjoy a scene where we get knocked down with the ears ringing and the blurry vision? Sure the part on the boat was awesome but that's about it as far as I'm concerned. For most of the campaign the player has to follow other characters, other than that it's pretty much "Do this! Go there!".
I really do understand that the focus of this game is online but the game fails to be impressive and innovative on that side as well. I still give this game a 5 for the graphics and the input responsiveness but sadly Call of Duty has not evolved since Modern Warfare 1.

Campaign mode, Special Ops, and Multiplayer are all pretty solid, and as a whole make for a pretty good game. >< My complaints mainly are multiplayer related. The foremost being an overall lack of balance . The pace of a typical MW3 match, regardless of game mode, or the objectives, quickly turns into and spray and pray gib-fest. Guns are terribly unbalanced as is the Perk system. It's ridiculous at how overpowered some weapons are over others. The whole pitch about "choose how you want to play based on weapon and perk choice" should have read "choose how you want to play using "this OP" type of gun and "these OP" perks or else lose". >< Another issue with multiplayer is lag. Matchmaking is a crapshoot, hosts are chosen seemingly at random, (sometimes mid-game), and players are either horribly easy or about impossible to hit because of lag. >< Finally, still not enough has been done to address aim-botting and other cheats which have been an ongoing problem for years. >< TL;DR MW3 delivers on what made the series popular but multiplayer issues hamper it's strongest selling point. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Firstly let me say i am extremely disappointed that this is the highest earning piece of entertainment in our civilization. This is like Justin Bieber and Twilight as they are to music and movies respectively.
They throw crap at you and they still make a ton of money every year, the reasons for which are beyond my comprehension.
I still remember playing the first Modern Warfare and being blown away by it. It was a breath of fresh air in the WW2 shooter infested era. That unfortunately was also the last FPS experience i have enjoyed.
This game just goes on to show how much they have run out of ideas. The engine appears superbly dated and not worth running on a good rig, let alone warrant the full 60 dollar price. I am atleast glad they finished the story once and for all. A lot of ideas have been overused here , the slowmo breaching of countless rooms, following Capt.Price in stupid missions where the AI is so blind they'd walk over you and still not be able to spot you. Most of the missions here start off stealthily and end up becoming long and boring corridor sequences either in a street or a building. The layouts of the environment haven't changed much since the first game in the series and they have overused the idea of killing playable characters gradually over the sequels. The protagonist of the series spends more time on his deathbed in this title and it would have been nice to keep him alive as the series ended. I have to say this is the worst game in the series and the critic reviews just goes to show how you cannot trust these sites these days. How can this game get such a high score. But this series isn't meant for the SP experience and we are yet again given the same experience with micro tweaks and modes. Activision has suffered creatively since the core team left Infinity Ward to form Respawn entertainment and this clearly shows in the game. If you own a decent rig and like FPS, then the game to buy would be BF3 (even though it has its own set of issues). This is definitely a console FPS (yes they should call it this).
The recoil in a weapon is barely present and the gameplay style is more lonewolf oriented. It is disturbing to see how low the series has gone over the past 2 games. Bottom line : Don't buy this so Activision can stop throwing the same crap at us year over year.
Now that this game has been laid to rest , i am looking forward to some innovation from their side for the inevitable COD-9 slated for 2012 holiday season.

It's not that I think they should revolutionize the graphics every time a new game comes out, but this game does very little new, even story-wise. The story is even more disjointed than MW2 if you can believe that; with a half-hearted structure and poorly developed characters. Do I even need to be babbling right now? The spec ops missions are fairly all right, but the survival mode is really good considering the rest of the game. The multiplayer has been destroyed by the fact that iwnet still exists. Games automatically matchmake with level 50's, and from different countries. It also preferences games over 100ms ping. The game feels very rushed and seems to be because the developers wanted to compete with bf3. They should NOT have attempted to release the game in such a poor state. They should have utilized the PC as the platform of choice so that they could then downsize the graphics etc for consoles. That way the game would have potentially had good competition against BF3. Instead the game is cliche, recycled and carelessly created. Sad, it had potential.

Let me start by saying I'm not going to compare to BF3, I will only compare to the past COD games and how this functions as far as improvements and features it provides. The campaign is what we have come to expect from a COD game, all sparkle and no substance, it has cool set pieces but the levels themselves are way too short and the way the story is handled is not very good switching places between different soldiers at different times without good explanation as to why, compared to Black Ops which imo is the best COD campaign that gave good explanation and had an interesting albeit derivative twist, it was still entertaining and i enjoyed it. Now on to controls and multiplayer, the controls are probably the tightest ive ever felt in a COD game, and thats pretty awesome! but unfortunately Lag compensation still exists from Black Ops rendering my games completely unplayable, I've had only one awesome game out of the 13 I've played and I'm sure that people in that very game were getting the short end of the lag compensation stick, and everything that was cool about black ops with the currency system allowing you to unlock whichever guns you please (if you have it unlocked to purchase from ranking up) has been removed, and back to the archaic MW2 method of using each gun and gaining a set amount of kills or mini challenges to get the gun ranked up to unlock parts of the gun itself, why did they go this route?? Black Ops made it so much easier for people to just get in rank up and unlock whatever you please and truly customize your character, now dont get me wrong I am in no way trying to praise Black Ops as the holy grail of COD gameplay, it has its large share of issues with lag compensation as well, but at least (for PC of course) they had a server browser that YOU CAN RANK UP IN, and gave PC gamers the option of having Lean controls which of course you can keybind to whichever key you want!

So essentially what we have is with MW3 is run of the mill campaign, but who really expected anything more? We have a mp that went backwards in a good way with getting dedicated servers (for PC im talking about) but then ruins it because you cant rank up and no one will play this game to not rank up in mp! hence why in server browser there are only 400 people compared to matchmaking where its over 44000, what was the point of doing this? BF3 at least has a server browser AND quickmatch function!! is that so hard to do for 2 studios working on this game? This is horrendous and a joke on longtime fans of the series, we all know this game was milking it, but I couldn't believe that a game could take steps forward backward and sidestep at the same time. Lets not forget about the map design, pardon my language but WHAT THE **** Every map feels like the airport map from MW2, every map is small, contained and dependent almost entirely on close quarters and the look of the maps are either A) Destroyed urban or industrial area with rubble everywhere and everything in shambles or B) some random jungle. MW1 and MW2 had the best designs of MP maps in the series, they all had their own personalities as well as were able to differentiate from one another. Black ops had a few very good maps but others really fell flat, and dont get me started on the DLC map packs

Now the improvements this game brought to the series in my opinion are as follows:

Pointstreaks as opposed to Killstreaks and different strike package setups: Brilliant, giving people more options as to how to play a game and not allow those who dont depend solely on getting high kills get all the fun with streaks, and having the risk vs reward factor in all the different packages is resfreshing.

Controls as I said previous are improved and it flows very nice and I havent encountered any issues up to now regarding the controls after completing the MP and SP, and at least they included a Smooth Mouse option so people can have a choice.

Spec ops, is just as badass as it was in MW2, and the survival mode is a TRUE COD survival mode and is much much better than Zombies (which in my opinion wasn't very hard to beat, but beat it they did and at least 100 fold)

Graphics for the game are what you expect from Quake 3 tech, and it does have some moments of brilliance surprisingly (i run the game at 5760x1080p) but other moments it does look like an Xbox 1 or PS2 game and makes FEAR 1 look like Crysis. So this is a sort of stalemate in the graphics department

so just to sum up here:

    Pros:
Campaign if you liked the past CODs then youll like it, it has its moments, the story sucks tho
    Controls
    Pointstreaks
    Spec Cops/Survival

    Cons:
Campaign story sucks and if you hate old CODs you wont like this one either
Lag Compensation = worst idea ever and should be illegal in 60 dollar games
Servers not able to rank up rendering them useless and no one ways them (PC version)
Archaic MW1 and MW2 weapon attachment unlock system
    Blops currency gone

There are no dedicated servers, cheaters and lag abounds, and if my sticky reticule pops to one more enemy automatically I think I'm going to ceremoniously burn this game. There is no reason on the PC to make the game aim for the player.

Multiplayer has literally not advanced at all. Graphics are poor, the engine is out of date. There's nothing but lag, cheaters, and kids whining and screaming over their microphones every time they die. There are no new modes, and no unique guns. You get to choose between slightly different re-skins of the same gun, pretty much, because they're all equally bland and stiff to use.

There are no advanced physics to enhance dynamic gameplay, still no vehicles, and the killstreaks are more cheap than fun at this point. Who likes to join a match where half your team is just getting insta-killed by a helicopter above the map? Roll the dice. You might not randomly die, between the latency, the aim assist, and the 20 foot knives.

That's pretty much all this game is. Random death. Grenade spam, camping, quickscope abuse, and lag all contribute to one pathetic package of random death.

It gets 2 instead of 0 because it's a functional game, and not a pile of slag that nukes your HDD.

Worst cod ever, Even MW2 which was a good game other then no dedi is better then this crap..This is just a cheap copy of MW2 they rushed out.. it seems like only the hardcore fanboys like it and even then they talk themselves into it by saying how they just had to get use to it. It really makes me sick seeing CoD coming from a great fast pace shooter this a cheap no good rip off of crap..

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What started out to be an interesting sequel got ruined in the end process. It turns out to be Modern Warfare 2.5 in the end, the same graphics are used, same textures, horrifying multiplayer and a generic story mode. The story mode is practically this: You are crashed in New York, things blow up, you wake up in India, things blow up again, you are the bodyguard of the prime minister of Russia, plane blows up and you die with the PM being kidnapped, you are in Africa, things blow up, Warabe dies, and blah blah blah, it's more or less like a Michael Bay movie, a movie full of explosives, and the main plot is forgettable, in the end of the game, I got completely confused with what happened completely because the game took me 3.5 HOURS TO COMPLETE! with these standards, surely the co-op doesn't fail at all. Guess what? That also got destroyed and ruined, copy and paste maps of the multiplayer, stupid AI that go suicide towards you to kill you, a unknown story to it. If you thinks things might be good in the end, you will be unhappy with the result. It's a copy and paste of MW2 and BO, full of rubbish maps, no dedicated server, people talking BS on the mic and messages, OVERPOWERED weapons which will need to be nerfed, full of rip-off DLC which people want their money back for. With an overall package full of failure, you will expect the community to be respectful? Once again, a BIG FAT NO! Community are nothing but craptalkers, people hating other games which aren't COD, full of your parents comeback and the list will go on for months. If I had to pick an alternative to MW3, pick BF3, Crysis 2, RAGE, Homefront, F3AR, Bulletstorm, Resistance 3 and Killzone 3. Avoid this with all your life depending on it! Expand

I felt asleep while playing this terrible game...twice. I cant imagine why would people pay for this... Its a game you just want to finish as soon as possible but it just keeps dragging itself like a half-dead horse. I just feel bad after finishing it, like something died inside of me. I think it gave me cancer. God save us from this terrible franchise...

I can see that Activision is making some progress, but slowly. The campaign is short, and the scenario is not too rich. But there's a few clichés which will stick in mind. The Spec Ops missions are more interesting. The multiplayer is great, with the new weapons. And lots of well organized perks and stuff. The new Infected mode is crazy. Like hide and seek. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Battlefield 3 is $30 dollars on Amazon. This is still $45 bucks on Steam. This is just not worth the price if you're a big-time Call of Duty fan. I just gave up after Black Ops came out.

Call of Duty MW3 had the worst campaign ending I have ever seen. It's terrible. It completely UNDOES parts of MW2 in fact. It's like EA screwed this up with Mass Effect 3, even if EA didn't make this game (and they didn't). The end you ask? You kill Makorav with a grapple hook. A GRAPPLE HOOK FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! And Soap, the new whats-his-name-again-it's-so-dumb guy, Frost, and tons of other characters die. The only time it's fun is the first part of the game. The final 2 parts in Mission Select are terrible quality.

Graphics and sound are basically a port from MW2. No difference. Go figure, they did the same for Black Ops. Multiplayer is another story though. YOU GOT FREAKING NUKES AND MOABS! And since COD is full of cheats, it's so easy to end a match in Multiplayer in 2 minutes. I had a terrible time playing this. Replay MW2 or something, that was more enjoyable than this dog poop. Or buy BF3, it's cheaper now.

The game has barely been improved, yet, it brags as if it's a masterpiece.

I had received both MW3 and BF3 at launch. Let's just say I sold my copy of MW3 a little while afterwards and still own BF3 today. It is a copy of MW2 with Theater mode, slightly better movement patterns and the most godawful story mode in my experience of gaming. End the Modern Warfare series, Treyarch got CoD going and they should be the only ones doing it.

The missions are basically just worser versions of the Modern Warfare 2 special ops missions. The only good thing about it was "survival" mode, which is just another form of Nazi Zombies. Even with the survival the special ops is still bad. Now the multiplayer is just awful. It is just the same old, kill, rank up, unlock guns. Really, you'd think they could create a different sort of multiplayer gameplay, but no just the same stuff from previous CoD's. The gameplay is very unbalanced, because of overpowered weapons like the MP7, P90 and all that. The maps were poorly made, just flat with tons of camping spots, to help support the newbies playing the game. Along, with terrible spawning. Like you could spawn right next to an enemy and die instantly. So, if you still play any of the previous Modern Warfare titles and still enjoy them, stay away from this title until the prices drops. It may appear to be a repeat to MW2, but a further look into it shows the only similarity is the engine. Duel wielding may be bad ass, but in a serious fps it is cheap sad to have them so strong - especially because it has no realistic values. I don't play for the single player version, and mostly play only multiplayer. It gets harder and harder to play the game with the constant annoyance of a poor game community of young and immature players, that you would not usually find in an mmo rpg or an rts. Almost half the games you enter will consist of 4-5 people using the same exact weapon/class setup in order to get easy kills and rank up fast. Ranking up in the game is tedius and, well, fairly pointless. No real achievment goes into obtaining the max level because so many people venture off into a hacked lobby or use hacks in-game to get cheap kills. The valve anti-cheat system is sad, as all they do is check the leader boards. A lot of the hackers will simply (and yes, I mean simply) alter their leader boards to make their kill to death ration more reasonable - avoiding the ban hammer (as they call it). The worst part is they are probably working on the next modern warfare, allowing these issues to go unnoticed. They base their support system on a social networking site which is a face palm in my book. Expand

You die before you hear your enemies shoot and sometimes even before you see them. You're gun shoots, you hear the shot, you die immediately after that and yet your last shot didn't fire. Why in that case would it bother making the sound of the gun firing? I quit the game for 3 months, came back to try playing with friends, and can't even stand to play a full game.
